Canada’s Sadistic Embodiment is releasing a new album “Blood Spell” on September 18th via CDN Records. The album follows the band three EPs Beloved Imprisonment (2019), Blodörn (2018), and Self-Titled (2018). Continuing their sonic onslaught, each of the nine songs on “Blood Spell” has a distinct feel given the variation in vocal and instrumental styles throughout the album. Each song stands out and yet they are all uniquely Sadistic Embodiment. This will please old school death metallers and the new school with a variety of punch-in-your-face hooks, melodic passages, and absolutely brutal anthemic choruses.

“After spitting out three EPs this last couple of years, we were really stoked and kind of nervous settling into a longer writing and recording process for Blood Spell. As per usual, we cranked out the material during bi-monthly jams, but this time we really took our time crafting the music once the main structure of the songs was built. Our sound is still exactly the same, but the listeners may hear more broad musical influences across the nine tracks.  There are tracks that sound distinctively Wally and Jason and certain tracks where you really hear Bryan shine as he shows off his technical prowess.

A lot of our songs are longer than your average death metal track, and they are relatively simple in regards to guitar and lyrical work. But with longer playtimes, we were able to fit in more ambiance and guitars solos into every nook and cranny.” the band adds.

Today, Sadistic Embodiment is sharing their second single off the full length. Entitled “Gallows Hill”, the track is a thrashy and high-energy mosher with lyrics reminiscing of a brutal and unforgiving historic time.

Guitarist Jason Cullen explains:

“With this song, I went back to my roots, as many may know (and some that don’t) I’m from Ireland. I love to show my love for my country in my music, the first being a huge lyric influence in the song “Freedom Cry” from our EP “Blodörn”.

With “Gallows Hill” I once again go back to my homeland with more brutal Irish historical facts from the 1800s. The song is based on the area where hangings happened for horrific crimes committed, where a crowd would form to watch the pain and suffering of the man OR woman of the rope.

This is also my first song for SE where I take lead on vocals with our current vocal lineup. You can feel the pain of both those being hung and their victims’ families in this song, along with catchy groovy riffs and vocal melodies, this will be a song that will stick in your head for a while.”

Listen to “Gallows Hill” via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

“Blood Spell” will be released on September 18, 2020 on all major digital platforms along with being available for pre-order (CD) from CDN Records here.

The album is for fans of both old school death metal and newer that will appreciate it. Especially fans of Gojira, Bloodbath, and Kataklysm. Like a pungent black onion, “Blood Spell” has many layers of groovy, mid-tempo riffs, choruses alongside pain, anguish, and rage; the instrumental and vocal nuances meticulously build into each song.

About:

The sadistic death metal quartet was originally conceived in Edmonton, Alberta. Although all Edmonton born half of the group now resides in Calgary, travelling frequently to join the others in crafting extreme musical works. Each member brings their own distinct flair to the music, live theatrics, and social media content.

Drummer Bryan Newbury (also known from Into Eternity, Untimely Demise) formed the project in the fall of 2017 by inviting Curtis Vieville and Helge Lipphardt to jam simple and catchy death metal. A couple of months later, Jason Cullen joined the group and then Nate Mandrusiak joined shortly thereafter, forming the five-piece that produced their Self-Titled (March 30th, 2018) and Blodørn (September 8th, 2018) EPs. Curtis Vieville left to travel for the summer of 2018, leaving the band to record bass and vocals for the Blodørn release on his behalf.

During the late fall of 2018, the group parted ways with Helge Lipphardt and brought on Curtis’ old bandmate Wally Fischer. Continuing their relentless musical onslaught the group wrote and released the EP Beloved Imprisonment on January 31st, 2019, showcasing their evolved sound. But the work was far from over and after a few gigs, the group began work constructing their first full-length album. During that period the band parted ways with their singer Nate in early 2020, and from thereafter the group became a three-pronged vocal assault team.

Completing their work in the spring of 2020, the milestone album “Blood Spell” was finally realized. As if sensing the impending debut, CDN Records approached the band with a record deal just as the final touches were being completed. And thus Sadistic Embodiment joined the CDN Records family.

Each release from Sadistic Embodiment grows in depth and complexity while maintaining simple and heavy death metal passages. They pride themselves on having catchy choruses intermixed with powerful and epic melodies. The newest material exhibits dark soundscapes with a lot of variation in song type and feel. Listen closely and you will find evil and pain lurking in the mix

“Blood Spell” is due out September 18, 2020 via CDN Records.

About:

WoR is a groove metal quintet from Raleigh, North Carolina. Their music combines aggressive riffs, harmonic leads, and tasteful breakdowns with the infectious anti-authoritarian lyrics of vocalist Bobby DeMoss.

WoR was founded in 2018 by guitarist Ben Kaiser who at the time was finishing up his college football career playing offensive line at NC State. The band was initially an escape from the rigors of the sport, and at the end of his career, he decided to give the band a legitimate go.

After cycling through a variety of members early on, WoR was joined by Bobby Demoss, the charismatic frontman who has the ability to draw in even the toughest crowd; his unique screaming style and passionate lyrics helped shape WoR’s groundbreaking identity from the get-go. In 2019, Phil Funderburk, the glue who keeps the band and the music together, joined on bass; David Nisoff, in charge of mind-blowing solos that capture everyone’s attention, joined as the second guitarist, and Hunter Crews, a consistent timekeeper and a seasoned veteran in the music business solidified the lineup as the bands’ drummer.

By the spring of 2019, WoR had begun to debut their music at live shows throughout the southeast region of the United States and played with the likes of Upon A Burning Body, Atilla, and Warbringer just to name a few.

Working collaboratively, WoR’s music focuses on various different current events using powerful lyrics to offer a unique insight into the things going on in our lives and in the world. In 2020 and 2021, WoR has extensive tours scheduled to support the release of their debut album “Prisoners”. WoR’s live shows are extremely energetic with fan involvement being a common theme. Demoss does a phenomenal job of breaking down the fourth wall and getting the crowd involved at their shows making way for insane mosh pits. It is the band’s credo that they give it their all for whatever time they are on stage whether they are playing to 2,000 people or 200 people.

WoR, groove metal hailing from Raleigh, USA have a new single out “VI Kings”, from their debut album “Prisoners”, which will be released August 7, 2020.

WoR has been working on this first offering over the course of the last few years, in which they have seen all the members of the band improving drastically at their respective instruments and songwriting capabilities. Their experience of togetherness on every artistic level has allowed them to write technically and musically more complex new material. The band share’s their thoughts on how their debut will be received:

“We are positive that our first album will be received well by fans. Every song is unique with regard to its sound and arrangement. Some songs are straight-up brutal while others present with an extreme sense of groove or even melody. There is furthermore a lot of raw emotion and anger that is captured very well on our record. For this reason, there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy.”

What starts with a riff evolves into an amalgamation of elements from various different subgenres of metal, leading to an array of very unique sounds, and the single “VI Kings” is no exception. Opens with dual guitar harmonies that build up into one of the catchier choruses in any WoR song. Tied together in the middle with a melodic solo, VI Kings ends on a straight forward but equally brutal breakdown.

Groovy, raw, and old school, WoR is suitable for all fans of metal especially those with an interest in Machine Head, Sepultura and Gojira.

North Carolina’s groove metal outfit WoR is gearing up to release their debut album “Prisoners” on August 7th via Bungalo Records/ Universal. Throwing in elements of thrash, metalcore, and even hardcore punk, everyone in the band has taken a different musical path and the variety of influences shows through in the unique and original sound.

It’s a little bit melodic and a little bit old school, and completely energetic.

The new album “Prisoners” promises to be an extreme journey from start to finish, a metal album through and through. There are no clean guitars on the whole album, just heavy and groovy riffs. WoR shares their excitement for the release:

Through versatile styles, a wide range of metal awaits the listener. The first single from the album is “Predator”, a song that almost didn’t make the album. It was redone in the studio and WoR has released a video for it that is streaming now.

“Prisoners” will be available on August 7th, 2020.

Unleashing the debut album “The Door” this past October, Montreal’s Messora are excited to share the new music video for the album’s title track. Produced entirely by the band and a group of friends, the conception and production of the video was a massive undertaking for them.

“It is a collection of imagery and aesthetics meant to reflect and enhance the sounds and themes of “The Door”. We are extremely pleased and proud to be able to share it today.” says vocalist/guitarist Zach Dean.

The music video for “The Door” can be viewed via its premiere on BeheadingTheTraitor HERE.

Formed as a solo recording project in 2016 in Montréal, Québec, Messora has become a band that obscures and challenges genres. To the band, the music comes as what feels best in the moment. To the fans, it is a kaleidoscope of sound that appears different at every glance and to every eye.

Messora has been described as Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Progressive Metal, Melodic Metal, and Doom Metal by fans and showgoers. The elements that make up the music may seem familiar to some, yet the whole remains a challenge to define.

The band knows how to set themselves apart from others musically as well as aesthetically, with showmanship and presentation second only to musical performance during their live show. They demand attention with their presentation, but keep it with the strength of their performance and musicianship. Having shared the stage with bands such as Carach Angren, Mors Principium Est, and Wolfheart, Messora always delivers, visually, aesthetically and musically.

During October 2019, Messora released their debut album “The Door”. The album shifts between genres, and creates a visceral atmosphere that can’t be confined to a single category, be prepared to hear death, melodic, doom, and progressive elements throughout the seven tracks on the album. Looking to challenge listeners, Messora presents an album that requires attention and an open mind, as Zach Dean quotes:

“I am trying to present fans with a record that you listen to front to back and come out of feeling different. Maybe not even different, maybe just more like yourself. The album as a whole is very varied musically while remaining focused and tight. It’s very clearly a metal album but you can hear that we want to go to different places and incorporate different influences throughout the record. Most of the songs are very long and have very complicated structures and changes, but it’s always meant to feel right and musical rather than abrupt and meaningless.”

Any metal lover who craves proggy and dark music especially along the lines of Opeth, Psycroptic, and Gojira will find Messora to their liking.

“The Door” is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music.

As much as quarantine has been a major downer for most of us, there are those who are making the most out of it. This includes Ominous Eclipse who has a new single “Eclipse” complete with a quarantine music video that is premiering on The Circle Pit.

“The lyrical concept of ‘Eclipse’ is the representation of our name, Ominous Eclipse. It is a bleak tale of the sun being separated from the earth where on the blackened planet everything dies in darkness with despair. Musically, this is our most ambitious composition. With the 11-minute running time, orchestrations, and other new elements, we have strived for what we feel will be our magnum opus.”

“Eclipse” is one of four tracks on the upcoming EP of the same name which will be released later in the year. Groovy and technical, the band thinks this album will come as a surprise to long time fans. The band quotes:

“The tracks are more rhythmically focused as there is far less lead guitar shredding than our previous work. However, the guitars are still the focal point of our sound. With this release, we have a much less aggressive sound than our previous release “Sinister”.”

Recommended for fans of Death, Gojira, and Opeth, “Eclipse” can be watched right now on The Circle Pit HERE.

About:
An ambitious band passionate about writing and playing extreme music, Ottawa based metal band Ominous Eclipse has been tearing up the local scene since 2014. Founded by Graham Murphy (guitar/vocals) and Ryan Clements (bass/vocals), and later joined by James Close (guitar/vocals) and  Jeremiah Marshall (drums) the band draws their inspiration from a wide variety of genres creating a unique sound all their own.

Founding member and movie buff Graham Murphy explains how they came up with the band name which was partially inspired by the movie “Pitch Black”.

“Ominous Eclipse follows the idea of the world falling into eternal darkness. The envisioned concept is of the earth being blocked off from the sun leaving the world in uncertainty and falling into chaos.”

Following the origin of the band name, many of the lyrical themes pay homage to the plots from movies and books and sometimes situations in everyday life. Shortly after their formation in 2014, Ominous Eclipse released a four-song EP “Beyond The Apocalypse” with a full length “End Of Days” following not long after in 2015. In 2018, they released their second full length and third studio release “Sinister”.

Not wanting to be easily categorized and predictable, the band finds that over their evolution from the first release they have moved away from thrashy overtones to become more diverse including more heavily stated melodic and technical sounds with a solid groove and death foundation. Ominous Eclipse has been gaining speed in their region opening for bands such as Revocation, The Agonist, and Kalmah and has also acquired an endorsement with Indie Guitar Co. They are looking forward to their next release, a planned EP for 2020, and spreading their music to a wider fan base.

“Their new song “Spiral Into Insanity” has a strong death metal foundation, including very melodic leads, but there’s more than enough groovy thrash inspiration and even a hint of black metal there. ” – Decibel Magazine

“‘Sinister’ is a high-energy track launched by heartless riff jabs, ear-scouring string squeals, and neck-snapping drumwork. The vocals come for your throat, too, in an effusion of heartless roars and face-scraping shrieks, and the song is accented by flurries of spidery, darting fretwork and by a pair of flashy, fluid, but demented solos. It becomes a thrashing gallop, but without becoming any less venomous in its delivery.” – No Clean Singing

“As the evolution of Ominous Eclipse has progressed, the band have hybridized a seething core of death metal sound with elements of thrash, black metal, and melodic death metal. But if “The Horde” is a sign of what’s to come next, they’re reaching for new levels of monstrous and electrifying destructiveness.” – No Clean Singing

“Whilst we wait with anticipation to hear the rest of the record ”Sinister” is yet another outstanding track on what looks set to be a very exciting record from ‘Ominous Eclipse’.” – Spirit Level Magazine

“a game changing release for Ominous Eclipse that places them center stage for my pick of the best Canadian Metal release this year….Every track stands strongly on its own, thanks to the band’s immense talent and flawless production. Ominous Eclipse is a band that carries the banner for the N.W.O.C.D.M. with pride and distinction. Out September 14th on all streaming platforms, I would recommend Sinister to fans of Death, Iron Maiden, Infernal Majesty and Gojira.” – Hellbound

“Demonstrating their ability to blend genres within metal to create a compelling album, this is an impressive sophomore delivery. Each track brings something different and feels refreshing even after multiple listens.” – Splice Magazine

Montreal Progressive Death MESSORA Unleash Second Single ‘The Pond’ Off Upcoming Album ‘The Door’

In anticipation of their upcoming album “The Door”, Montreal’s MESSORA have released their second single ‘The Pond’.

“The Door” is constantly shifting between genres, and creates a visceral atmosphere that can’t be confined to a single category, be prepared to hear death, melodic, doom and progressive elements throughout the seven tracks on the album. Looking to challenge listeners, MESSORA presents an album that requires attention and an open mind, as Zach Dean quotes:

“I am trying to present fans with a record that you listen to front to back and come out of feeling different. Maybe not even different, maybe just more like yourself. Most of the songs are very long and have very complicated structures and changes, but it’s always meant to feel right and musical rather than abrupt and meaningless.”

Among the proggy, more experimental tracks on the album, ‘The Pond’ is an introspective and tense journey that is slower than the other offerings on the record. Dean explains:

“I wanted this song to be more slow, atmospheric and short that the other songs on the record, and I stuck to this idea while I was writing it. This track is very interesting to me because I didn’t think that something like this would end up on the record. It started as a 12-minute monstrosity in the same vein as The Veil and The Falling Star, but I ended up scrapping most of it and just kept about a fifth of the ideas and turned them into this more atmospheric and slow cut. The lyrics take place in the new “world” that you finally fall into after entering The Door.”

Any metal lover who craves proggy and dark music especially along the lines of Opeth, Psycroptic, and Gojira will find MESSORA to their liking.

‘The Pond’ is streaming via an exclusive premiere on MetalUniverse.net HERE.

MESSORA Reveal What’s Behind ‘The Door’ With Title Track Premiere Off Upcoming Debut Album

Debut Album ‘The Door’ Out October 4th

One of Montreal’s hardest to classify metal bands, MESSORA, has wrapped up production on their debut album and is ready for their listeners to succumb to the shifting and numinous music within. “The Door” is being released on October 4, 2019.

“The Door” is comprised of seven challenging tracks that shift between many styles of metal, most noticeably death and progressive with hints of doom among the melodic riffs. The title track is the first single and is the reason this originally intended one-man project blossomed into a full band that has been bringing it’s malevolent and theatrical performance to stages throughout the local scene. Having played live many times, MESSORA expects this release to be taken well by fans, as they quote:

“We think that many people who became fans after seeing us live will be thrilled just by the fact that we’re finally presenting them with a record. I think that anyone who considers themselves a fan of ours only does so because of our live show. It’s a record that is kind of progressive but also kind of straight forward and we hope that it will appeal to those who are into progressive music and those who aren’t at all.”

The lyrics on the track ‘The Door’ influenced every subsequent song on the album turning it into a continuation of the first track. Zach Dean explains the track in his own words:

“It’s very catchy and melodic, and it never gets as weird as certain other songs on the record. I really see it as this album’s only “single”. The middle section that contains the guitar solo is actually kind of weird. It serves as a great segue between what’s basically the part 1 and part 2 of the song, as well as giving the listener a taste of the more proggy and eccentric sounds that are more present later on in the record. Lyrically it’s about always seeing the problems in the world, and feeling like it’s all the fault of everything and everyone around you. You then get a glimpse at something else, a different place that is different from the one you’re in, and you want to get there.”

MESSORA crosses boundaries and is ultimately for anyone who likes technical, well-crafted metal, especially those who enjoy Opeth, Children of Bodom, and Lamb of God.

The single ‘The Door’ is being premiered via Bravewords.com at the following link here.
