Drawing their inspiration from a wide variety of genres, OMINOUS ECLIPSE is a brutal quartet that create a unique hybrid sound with death metal being the main aspect combined with elements of thrash, groove, black, melodic, etc. Unleashing their sophomore album “Sinister” this past September, the band have put together a new lyric video for their track “Breaking The Chains” premiered on Bravewords.com.

Watch it now at the following link: http://bravewords.com/news/exclusive-ominous-eclipse-premieres-breaking-the-chains-lyric-video

For those in the Ottawa area, OMINOUS ECLIPSE will be performing on December 11th opening for The Faceless, Rings of Saturn, Vales of Pnath and more at Mavericks. Full details here.

“Sinister” is now streaming at the following link: https://youtu.be/PWKEeTguj-w

Plus available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Spotify.

Music Video – “Sinister” – https://youtu.be/ZkCr2u_wHfs

The band comments:

“There’s no concept or theme on this album so all the songs have different meaning. The title track itself divulges into the inevitable end to humanity and potentially the world with it. It discusses the issues around the globe and also addresses the ignorance and selfishness of those indirectly affected by the chaos. It has a strong “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” theme in regards to how people can turn their backs on those in need in order to save their own skin, which ironically will lead to our end as it causes people to turn on each other. Musically for this album, you will notice we have evolved from the first release and have moved away from thrashy overtones to become more diverse including more heavily stated melodic and technical with a solid groove and death foundation.”

“Sinister” follows their 2015 debut full length “End Of Days” and EP “Beyond The Apocalypse” released that same year. Active since 2014, OMINOUS ECLIPSE is a very ambitious band passionate about writing and playing extreme music. They have already shared the stage with the likes of Revocation, The Agonist, Kalmah, Archspire, Incantation, Vesperia, Beyond Creation, Rivers of Nihil to name a few.

“Their new song “Spiral Into Insanity” has a strong death metal foundation, including very melodic leads, but there’s more than enough groovy thrash inspiration and even a hint of black metal there. ” – Decibel Magazine

“a game changing release for Ominous Eclipse that places them center stage for my pick of the best Canadian Metal release this year….Every track stands strongly on its own, thanks to the band’s immense talent and flawless production. Ominous Eclipse is a band that carries the banner for the N.W.O.C.D.M. with pride and distinction. Out September 14th on all streaming platforms, I would recommend Sinister to fans of Death, Iron Maiden, Infernal Majesty and Gojira.” – Hellbound

“Demonstrating their ability to blend genres within metal to create a compelling album, this is an impressive sophomore delivery. Each track brings something different and feels refreshing even after multiple listens.” – Splice Magazine

“‘Sinister’ is a high-energy track launched by heartless riff jabs, ear-scouring string squeals, and neck-snapping drumwork. The vocals come for your throat, too, in an effusion of heartless roars and face-scraping shrieks, and the song is accented by flurries of spidery, darting fretwork and by a pair of flashy, fluid, but demented solos. It becomes a thrashing gallop, but without becoming any less venomous in its delivery.” – No Clean Singing

“The crowd was stellar at Mavericks, where each of the four bands were well represented by their fan bases. Opening on the night were Ominous Eclipse, whose chunky, frantic thrash metal din was led by their howling frontman. Largely drawing from their 2015 album End of Days, the four-piece pounded through six songs, tackling tracks like “Pestilence,” Abandoned” and the album’s particularly solid title track. Helping to limber the crowd for the chaos to come, they called for a “wall of death” in the confines of the club and the fans delivered, clearing the centre of the floor before the opposing sides barrelled into one another, bodies flying everywhere.” – Exclaim! (Live Review opening for Kalmah April 2016)

About:
NECRNOMICON have a well-earned reputation for quality by releasing material only when ready and satisfied with the outcome ever since their demo entitled “Morbid Ritual” (1992) firmly established their name within the underground. “The Silver Key” EP (1996) led to mainstream recognition on a national level, but their debut album “Pharaoh Of Gods” (1999) and the sophomore “The Sacred Medicines” (2003) did even more to establish the band as a household name in Canada. “Return Of The Witch” (2010) marked the international break-through for NECRONOMICON, and saw them performing at prestigious festivals such as Inferno (Norway), Ragnarok (Germany), and the Barge To Hell metal cruise among others, while sharing stages with acts such as CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR, BEHEMOTH, and MORBID ANGEL, to name but a few. Their steady advance around the globe grew considerably in impact by their next full-length “Rise Of The Elder Ones” (2013). Now NECRONOMICON are more than ready for the next step with ‘Advent Of The Human God’, their latest brutal assaulting soundtrack now available via Season of Mist for Europe as of March 18th and North America as of March 25th.

Delivering a lethal dose of symphonic, blackened death at a new height in their long lasting career, which began as early as 1988 with the founding of the band by guitarist and singer Rob “The Witch” in the deep northern part of Quebec, Canada known as the “Fjord of Saguenay”

The Canadian veterans keep their tracks on ‘Advent Of The Human God’ as gloriously epic as furiously massive and harsh. Songs like “The Golden Gods”, “Unification Of The Four Pillars”, “Crown Of Thorns” and “I Bringer Of Light” tell of experienced songwriting and an eclectic wide range of influences that flow into the sound of NECRONOMICON. Nodding to DIMMU BORGIR and BEHEMOTH to DEICIDE and SUFFOCATION, these extreme metal addicts carve their own sound out of the much cherished ingredients of brutal dark music.

2. Advent of The Human God (5:27)
3. The Golden Gods (4:13)
4. Okkultis Trinity (2:27)

Biography

Thundering in the distance of the Canadian prairies from the depths of Winnipeg hail four-piece ENTITY generating blasphemous death metal tainted with thrash. The four-year-old project grew out of a desire to generate terrifying metal complete with gratuitous solos and complimentary blast beats that whip each song into shape. They have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such acts as Skeletonwitch, Cryptopsy, and legendary Canadian metal act Razor.

Carl Brown (bass), Kyle Braun (drums), Adam Kozak (guitar/vocals), Tyler Augusto (guitar) are constantly pushing their writing abilities to create music that sounds like an army pacing through the muddy trenches of war and emerges victorious. Their influences are present in each song, and elements from old school thrash to new school technical death metal can be extracted throughout. Instrumentally, the guitar tone pierces through the blasting drums and is stitched together with doomy vocals. Each song is written to be a map through a tremendous journey with the band as the listener’s adept guide.

The band has produced a slew of demos and albums over the course of 4 years and is ready to release the height of their musical efforts, ‘Phobia Of The Formless’ [LP] in early 2017. Their songs are filled with torturous lyrics that pair well with their high energy stage performance. Catch them on tour Summer 2016 across Western Canada on their way to Armstrong Metal Fest.

Ottawa Death Metal Hybrid OMINOUS ECLIPSE Posts ‘End of Days’ Lyric Video

Forging death metal with elements of thrash, groove, black, and melodic tones, Ottawa, ON’s hybrid force OMINOUS ECLIPSE has posted a new lyric video for the title track from their latest album ‘End of Days’ released in 2015, which was an immediate follow up to their 2014 debut EP ‘Beyond The Apocalypse’. The band recently opened for Kalmah and Vesperia earlier this month and have just been announced once again as local support for Aegaeon and Depths of Hatred for their tour stop in Ottawa on May 28th.

Vocalist/ guitarist Graham Murphy comments on the lyric video:

“End Of Days,” the title speaks for itself. We took an “end of the world” concept and used a “balance of light and darkness” theme with a biblical topic. The idea is “Death,” symbolized as darkness, shadowing over the world to consume all life. Humanity turns to “God,” symbolized as light, in hope for salvation. God is the one who sent Death seeing us as being undeserving of the gift of life. Although the song may come off as trying to preach morals from a religious sense, we are really just portraying an apocalypse themed song where both light and darkness are our enemy.”

Edmonton Black & Doom Fest ‘Black Mourning Light’ Is Searching For Filmmakers + Band Submissions Now Open

2016 Edition
October 22, 2016
Rendezvous Pub, Edmonton
10+ bands
Tickets range from $30 to $40

Edmonton, AB based Black Mourning Light Metal Festival, a celebration of black, doom, and dark death metal is proud to announce they are searching for filmmakers to showcase their work at this year’s festival. The Rendezvous where the festival will be held is equipped with televisions to showcase films via DVD.

BML Festival organizer Dustin Ekman comments:

“We’re looking for darker films, and if they are silent even better. The fact that the films would be playing simultaneously as the music is performed limits their volume to zero. Horror, supernatural, fantasy, all the film genres that seem to work best for metal, are welcome. They will be curated and combed over just like the bands that will be playing, and attempts to match the bands and films together will be made, making this a more audio/visual event than Black Mourning Light 2015.”

Filmmakers interested in having their work shown at Black Mourning Light 2016 can use the following Filmmaker’s Application, located here.

Bands interested in playing at Black Mourning Light 2016 can apply at the following link below with submissions ending on July 1st and 2016 lineup revealed in August: https://blackmourninglight.wordpress.com/apply-to-play-bml-2016/

black mourning light 2016 trailer
After a successful debut during Halloween 2015, Black Mourning Light Festival returns for a 2016 edition set for October 22nd. The onslaught will be held at the Rendezvous Pub with a lineup of bands from across Western Canada all in the vein of black and doom metal along with select death styles. Last year’s line up included 11 bands from three provinces such as headliner Idolatry (Edmonton), Altars of Grief (Regina), Noire (Winnipeg), Ossific (Winnipeg), Vile Insignia (Calgary) and more.

Those that attended the 2015 inaugural ritual will not be disappointed by 2016, as they can expect a different while similar experience to that event. Due to the proximity of Samhain, costume prizes will still be awarded to those who wish to dress up early and celebrate the season.

About BML:

Conceived in March 2015 and executed on October 31, 2015, Black Mourning Light Metal Festival is the black metal and doom festival founded by Dustin Ekman of Crown of Viserys. Created to fill a void in Edmonton’s black and doom scene, the inaugural event brought 11 bands from three provinces together on one stage for the one-day event. Headlined by Edmonton’s own Idolatry, Regina’s Altars of Grief, and Winnipeg’s Noire, Black Mourning Light also featured Körperlose Stimme, Vile Insignia, Numenorean, and more.

Montreal-based five piece [EVERTRAPPED] has teamed up with NoCleanSinging.com for the exclusive track premiere of ‘Arise From The Ashes’, the fifth single from the band’s third album ‘Under The Deep’ (Hellstorm Recordz) due on October 16th to follow 2012’s Anomaly and 2010’s debut Tales From The Supermax

“‘Arise From The Ashes’ is a depiction of someone who has actually reached the bottom, so their rise from there so to speak. Like the king of their own universe broken by all clawing it’s back, but fueled by an ever-consuming hatred.” comments vocalist James Brookes.

Delivering relentless brutal melodic death metal since 2007, [EVERTRAPPED]intentionally wrote their band name with enclosed brackets to signify the trappings of modern life for all of us and how people, despite their best attempts to break out of the mold are still affixed to a simple controlled existence and futility.

Members of the band bring together their collective experience from the Montreal metal scene to create their heavy brand of death metal. The guitarists Frederick Dupuis (ex-Daggerfalls) and Vincent Benoit hammer out raw guitar while drummer Eric Lemire (ex-Apocalypsys, ex-Ice Castle) pummels the drums. Their versatile frontman James Brookes (ex-Ammonia, ex-One Final Moment, Continuum) easily alternates between strong clear vocals and low bellowing screams giving listeners the illusion of more than one vocalist. John Yates (ex-AraPacis) weaves together each song with his driving bass lines to keep the punishing tracks energy at an all time high.

Lyrics are intentionally slightly abstract to lure fans to draw their own conclusions despite a perceived understanding of the tracks. Themes for the music revolve around personal turmoil and even stringing together the image of a future where the world is on the brink of an apocalypse.

The band’s influences range from Death Metal to Melodic Death primarily, along with some classic thrash and speed metal, which explains their technicality and diversity sonically. Live, the band is a whirlwind of aggression and sonically abrasive, yet sporadically melodic vocally and instrumentally.

About the album and track by track explained by Evertrapped.

Under The Deep is an exploration of the deepest reaches of human madness. Not clinical madness, but simply the darkest regions of the soul and the blackest part of the human heart from a mind found to be socially functional, but is really way too far gone. And thus it seeks to explore what is underneath the deepest depth, hence no matter how deep you descend there’s always another layer that can be torn away.

Tracks:

  1. […] intro
  1. Arise From The Ashes: A depiction of someone who has actually reached the bottom, so their rise from there so to speak. Like the king of their own universe broken by all clawing it’s back but fueled by an ever consuming hatred.
  1. Underneath The Deep: A personal look at how a person can only be fucked up by someone else for too long until they break. But this takes you to a point where you now can’t come back.
  1. Palace Of Injustice: A stab at anyone blinded by the indoctrination of any institution and their ultimate demise that likely follows due to their ignorance towards it. However, it does aim more at the disgust of the institutions themselves and not so much the ignorance of the people.
  1. Hypnotized By Hatred: Another personal reflection, but in this case more a person who has been made to believe that all they do is wrong. So it brings up the sense where if you tell someone enough times that they are shit, then eventually they will just believe it. And in this case someone who becomes a very dark god loathing individual because it takes them to a point where they think it’s hysterical.
  1. Blood Of The Fallen: This is set in a horror like context although it not some zombie tribute. It simply laughs at how we place so much importance on the memory of the dead yet never bat an eye at the reality of human suffering which we ourselves cause.
  1. Lethal District: Somewhat of a post apocalyptic view of the surviving factions of humanity that instill themselves as the powers that be, and thus cast out the unclean, unworthy, and so forth. And therefore it sheds light on the madness and revolt of the unwanted.
  1. Burning Through Vengeance: This is a straight up rebel song. A certain arrogant fuck you to a society that rejects you, but you still know that you know better than them. So instead you’ll bide your time and watch them hilariously screw themselves over.
  1. Reaper: As the title suggests, an end of the line type song. In a certain way captures the essence of[EVERTRAPPED] in terms of the inescapable event that is death.
  1. Embrace The End: This also goes more or less as the title suggests. This is another song for the apocalypse but more at the actual hour of the end itself. A look at almost coming to terms with the fact that it was likely the fault of humanity and embracing the acceptance of such evil.

“those looking for melodic death metal on the heavier end of the spectrum need apply here. The second that you hear the opening chords of “Arise from the Ashes,” you’ll know exactly what [Evertrapped] is going for… a testament to some solid writing chops, particularly in the very traveled waters that the band is catering to. Those looking to sample a few tracks should check out the melodic leanings of “Lethal District” or ominous riffs of “Reaper.” – Dead Rhetoric

“After getting your socks blown off by the opener you only get a couple of seconds of rest before ‘Underneath the deep’ unleashes its fury at full force.” – Dutch Metal Maniac

“Listening to this one it feels like Lamb of God meets At The Gates or perhaps what I mean is this is what LoG would sound like as a melo-deth band. The musicianship is on par with any that you consider the best…Vocalist James Brookes has amazing pipes bouncing from cleans to death metal growls to slightly black metal screeches (not high pitched or I’d be OUT!)…Do yourself a favor and put this on your “To Buy” list, trust me you want this one!” – They Demons Be Scribblin

“These guys are real pros and it shows!” – The Blood Shed

“Evertrapped, and as they lay their claim as one of the front runners of melodic death metal in all of the land” – Bucketlist Music Reviews

Track Listing: Dust of Existence

2. Relentless Reprisal (2:53)

3. High Voltage Castration (5:16)

4. Maruta (4:21)

5. Cellar Goreatory (3:26)

6. Messiah Complex (4:30)

7. Nyctophilia (3:23)

8. Dust of Existence (7:10)

Album Length: 34:45

Track by Track – ‘Dust of Existence’:

1. Created to Kill – When DISPLAY OF DECAY approached the writing of this song, they were originally beginning to rework and old track that had been scrapped about 5 years ago. When they made a couple changes and the track turned into something completely different than what they had anticipated. This is one of the fastest if not the fastest track on the record, where they started incorporating more blast beats, and very heavy gallops on the guitars. The lyrics are based on events from 19th century Europe, around the origination of Frankenstein’s monster, and the attempts at resurrecting someone from the dead.

2. Relentless Reprisal – This track was lyrically of a personal matter. Its concept is that of getting revenge in the most gruesome of ways against somebody who had wronged you in one way or another.

3. High Voltage Castration – This was one of the last tracks written for the album, and is one of the most challenging of their entire catalog to perform, but also one of the most enjoyable. Its written about the “Tucker Telephone,” which was a torture device from the 1960’s that consisted of an old hand-crank telephone and an electric generator. If information was required of a prisoner, or they were found to be disobedient, they would be taken to a hospital room and restrained to a table, where a ground wire would be attached to the large toe, and the hot wire would be attached to the genitals, causing a massive electrical current to ensue, typically causing major deformation to the appendage.

4. Maruta – Based off the events of the Japanese “Unit 731″ experiments, this song outlines some of the gruesome acts that were bestowed upon prisoners during the WWII, which goes from live artillery testing, all the way to forced organ failures and vivisection.

5. Cellar Goreatory – Since the band’s inception, they have always tried to stay closely entwined to the early roots of death metal, and this track in particular follows that very in your face, savage groove that you cannot help but bang your head along to. The lyrical concept was based on a story guitarist Sean Watson was told from an acquaintance who had returned from vacation, which in a short version of the story, the person had a near fatal encounter with someone who was later to have found harboring the bodies of dead female tourists in their basement.

6. Messiah Complex – This was one of the earlier tracks DISPLAY OF DECAY had been performing before the recording process had begun for ‘Dust of Existence’. It starts off fairly slow and melodic, but has very heavy bridge sections, and takes a fast pace very quickly towards the ending.

7. Nyctophilia – This was the first track written out of the eight. It keeps a much slower pace than the rest of the album, but showcases a very dark tone from start to finish.

8. Dust of Existence – When DISPLAY OF DECAY began writing the lyrics for this song, There was no music behind it, and the band had a much different concept that was eventually altered to fit the story being told. When the writing of this track began, they knew right away it was easily going to be the longest song, it had to, it basically is the calm after the storm. With all that was said and done from “Outbreak of Infection” right to where they are now with “Dust of Existence,” this track basically plays out the events that have unfolded, both through the songs, and in real life events around being in this band. Many things have changed since their formation in 2007, and the stories that could be told over that 8 years could last for days, and this song is a testament to the past, present, and future of DISPLAY OF DECAY.

For more info, please visit www.displayofdecay.net.

About: Formed in 2007, Display of Decay is widely noted for bringing a unique blend of old school death metal, with tinges of thrash and doom metal. Hailing from Edmonton, the band has spread their infection across Western Canada, sharing the stage alongside other elite acts such as, The Faceless, Origin, Beyond Creation & more..After four well received indie releases, DISPLAY OF DECAY is ready to unleash its next full length “Dust of Existence” that features eight aural assaulting tracks that will set the mosh pits ablaze.  Due out later this Fall 2015 with the support of a Western Canadian tour, “Dust of Existence” is a direct epilogue to their 2014 EP, “Outbreak of Infection”.

“We aimed to keep a similar style of groove on this record as we had on previous releases, with heavy punchy riffs that are near impossible to keep out of your head, but still maintain that raw edge we have become known for. With the artwork as well, we wanted it portrayed in such fashion that it plays out the story being told from the Outbreak record to this new record, which is basically a devastating virus that has been unleashed upon mankind, terrorizing and annihilating everything in its path, “Dust of Existence” is the aftermath of these events. Nothing left but scattered remains of what was once there.” comments guitarist Sean Watson.

With a few of the tracks on the record written during the “Outbreak of Infection” recording sessions, which the band felt weren’t quite ready at the time to be recorded. During this writing session for “Dust of Existence”, DISPLAY OF DECAY especially tried to make sure each and every song was very diverse from the rest of the tracks.

Watson explains.

“We didn’t want it to feel as though there was any formula or predictability going on. We find that far too many metal bands form a niche that is their “go-to” when it comes to writing, and that it becomes a predictable comfort-zone that can make a record feel as though the same track is being played from start to finish and really make the listener feel completely disengaged from what is actually being played in front of them. We like to throw whatever change-ups or fills in that I can to really make the listener that much more integrated into the tracks.”

– 30 –

““Created To Kill” is a monster itself — a blazing onslaught of thrashing death with a raw, old-school tone, loaded with riff savagery and anchored by a nimble bass line and a hard-hitting drum attack. The song’s dynamic tempos are sure to be gasoline for the mosh pit, and the punchy grooves in the music should get heads moving vigorously as well. On top of all that death metal goodness, the rapid-fire vocals are as bestial as this kind of instrumental ferocity demands.” – No Clean Singing

“Edmonton’s long-standing denizens of death metal” – Decibel Magazine

“Dust of Existence is an intense, brutal album of death metal that is surely to snap your neck and crush your skull.” – My Global Mind

“Dust of Existence (self-released, September 22) is exactly what Death Metal is all about. Crushing, killer guitar grooves, thick as molasses bass tones, and a vocalist who sounds like he eats children, combined with a slammin’ drummer make for one monstrous listen, and not just the first time you play the disc, but each time thereafter.” – Amps And Green Screens

“This is pure North American death metal with a dosage of thrash, but it’s the effective songwriting that keeps your interest from start to finish. From the ever-present rumblings of the bass (a welcome inclusion compared to many in the genre) to the equally ever-present number of mid-tempo riffs that seem to bore their way into your brain, it’s a fun and enjoyable listen.” – Dead Rhetoric

“Clearly musically inspired by Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and some of the New York death metal scene, Dust of Existence is a thrashy death metal album that sounds likeThe Bleeding slowed down a bit, and sung by the son of Chris Barnes and George Fisher.” – Crown of Viserys

“This five-piece infection truly knows how to bring forth pungent and coarse Death Metal tunes intensified by the addition of elements from Thrash and Doom Metal, making sure all songs from their brand new release, entitled Dust of Existence, have something unique to offer to the listener.” – The Headbanging Moose

“This is Brutal Death Metal that wastes no time on pointless intros or messing around; the album starts with a bang and is all about the aggression and violence.” – Wonderbox Metal

“With some of the most brutal riffs and vocals that I’ve heard in quite some time, Edmonton Alberta’s Display of Decay are an underground metal force to be reckoned with. I proudly stamp them as our #CanadianMetalBandOfTheWeek” – Fox Force Five News

“Display of Decay have absolutely nailed this record. A great example of no frills death metal done spot on. Turn it up and bang thy fucking head.: – The Killchain Blog

Producing technical groovy death metal rooted in musical duality and lyricism, Winnipeg, MB’s INVERTED SERENITY are streaming the next single‘Breath of Life’ off their upcoming album ‘Integral’ due out on October 9th to follow up their 2013 debut ‘Manifestation of Eternity In A World of Time’.

The band comments about the track:

“This track is the longest on the record and is definitely one of the most impressive songs structurally. Beginning with a doom inspired riff that picks itself up into an uplifting proggy type groove which then unexpectedly turns itself into an atmospheric black metal passage is just one of the many interesting changes the song paints itself into. This is also the first track that we as a band chose to include clean group vocals with pan out really smoothly with the dissonant acoustic guitar riff written by Tomas a few years prior. The theme discussed in the lyrics is based upon balancing of mind as it increasingly unfolds itself unto the realization that it is the observer of all that is. Through the process knowing the rhythmic balanced interchange of natures polarity (inhalation/exhalation), the endless unfolding is fully expressed.”

About:

INVERTED SERENITY‘s music is a gateway into the infinite fractal nature of the minds of Drew (Parasitism) on guitar, backing vocals, Ben (Moira) on drums, backing vocals, Tom on bass, lead vocals, and Marco on guitar. Topics are inspired from works of many psychonaughts akin to Carl Jung, involving transcendental, philosophies, global tribe mentality, the impermanence of the physical world, and alchemy. Their riffs range from atmospheric black-metal grooves, old-school inspired death metal passages, thrash riffs, progressive technical journeys, and everything in between.

Their upcoming album ‘Integral’ was about a two year process, which began even before the release of their 2013 debut album ‘Manifestation of Eternity in a World of Time”. The instrumentation took about a year, then they began pre-production in the Summer of 2014 with Iko Lucic (credits). Their influences collectively are mainly Gojira, Decrepit Birth, Beyond Creation, Lamb of God, and Decapitated, but they enjoy all genres of music, which enhances their creative diversity.

Inverted Serenity live are extremely energetic with an onslaught of different styles and tempo changes that surprise the listener and keep them entertained. The heavy four piece is releasing ‘Integral’ on October 9, 2015 and is a transcendental experience for listeners as they reach the end of the album they will become whole.
