Vancouver, B.C., Canada’s premier melodic and power metal festival, HYPERSPACE METAL FEST, returns for its 6th edition after another year of crowd-pleasing epic fun.

Being hosted at The Cobalt (April 10 &11th) and the Rickshaw Theatre (April 12th), Hyperspace Metal Fest’s 2025 lineup features headliners ENFORCER, PSYCHOSTICK, Greyhawkalong with Crimson Shadows, Lunar, AfterTime, Tower Hill, Solarus, Red Cain, Tylor Dory Trio, Serpent Rider, Luminator, The Astral Prophets and Crüzer.

Headlining Saturday, April 12th at The Rickshaw Theatre, Sweden’s ENFORCER have proved themselves both live and on record; they have staked their place amongst the world’s most renowned heavy metal bands since first forming in 2005. They have toured the world over, playing at the biggest festivals and garnering a global fanbase. Their latest sixth studio album, Nostalgia (released May 2023 – Nuclear Blast), features 13 heavy metal anthems and throws ENFORCER back to their speed metal roots. Fusing extreme guitar riffing with catchy stadium choruses, ENFORCER is out to conquer the world. Music Video – Nostalgia – https://youtu.be/XhfrJAPbOCY

Supporting ENFORCER on the closing night lineup will be the Comedy Metal Kings PSYCHOSTICK. These humorcore titans bring forth a nostalgic escapade of sing-alongs and moshing fun with iconic titles such as “Beer!”, “Numbers (I Can Only Count to Four)”, “Dogs Like Socks”, “Obey The Beard!”, “Boobs”, and their latest single “Ultra Mega Fast” – https://youtu.be/kaqeizvxefM

Friday, April 11th, the second-night lineup will also witness the return of the formidable force that is Toronto’s Crimson Shadows, bringing forth tales of fantasy and warfare in their fierce melodic power and death metal-imbued sound. Thundering across the icy Canadian mountains, Crimson Shadows has awoken after five years away. The band has emerged from the dark and is preparing to forge its own path in this next stage of its journey. Across their defiant career stretching almost two decades, to date, notable highlights of Crimson Shadows‘ journey include the band’s appearance at Wacken Open Air in Germany in mid-2013 and subsequent victory in obtaining the title of International Wacken Battle Champions. Alongside international performances, Crimson Shadows has ventured across the length and breadth of their homeland, delivering brutality, technical prowess, and unyielding intensity in their melding of power and death.

Headlining Friday, April 11th at The Cobalt and returning for their third time at HMF is Seattle’s Greyhawk, stepping in at the last minute to headline night 2 of Hyperspace this year. With new singer Anthony Corso, Greyhawk is ready to bring the power with what is sure to be their best performance at Hyperspace yet! Anyone who has seen this traditional heavy metal titan before knows that they are in for an incredible set. Their newest album, “Thunderheart,” released in April 2024 on Fighter Records, a division of Xtreem Music, has been making waves across the heavy metal and power metal scenes worldwide.

Also featured on the Friday night lineup is the first-ever live performance from Lunar, a progressive metal project from California that features members from Helion Prime, Beholder, Vis Mystica, Mokili Wa, Nordic Frost, Outloud, and Double Vision. Founded by drummer Alex Bosson (Helion Prime, Planeswalker) and Ryan Erwin, who passed away in 2018, LUNAR continues in his memory. Their fourth full-length “Tempora Mutantur” was released on January 31st via Saibot Reigns Records to follow 2023’s “The Illusionist” and features a fresh lineup with the addition of guitarists Carlos Alvarez and Connor McCray (Vis Mystica) along with keyboardist Anthony Stahl plus album guests Wayne Ingram (Wildrun), Joe Gullace (Thank You Scientist) and Sam Vallen (Caligula’s Horse).

Meant to perform on the 2024 lineup but forced to cancel, Tylor Dory Trio returns for 2025. They are a monstrous progressive metal unit beloved by many in Western Canada. This live performance on Friday, April 11th, will be their first following a nearly seven-year layoff. Music Video – The Waitress – https://youtu.be/nh9MxcSqlOE

Also added to the Friday lineup and opening that night is The Astral Prophets, a psychedelic rock/metal band from Calgary, AB, featuring Apprentice, Lycanthro, and Scythia members. This is the band’s first time on the fest although some members have played the fest before in previous groups. They will be supporting their latest 2023 EP “Anywhere But Here”.

The opening night of the festival, Thursday, April 10th at The Cobalt, will showcase the Pacific Northwest’s Glyph, which is not just a heavy metal band, they are a crew of intergalactic mercenaries escaping a dying planet in their spaceship, the VSS Dragonlord. Clearly, Glyph isn’t just writing songs; they’re building worlds, and they bring it forth in their latest album, “Honor, Power, Glory,” released this past March. Music Video – March of the Northern Clan – https://youtu.be/htSyUb25wD4

Traveling from Edmonton, AB, Tower Hill delivers premium old-school heavy metal inspired by bands like Running Wild, Riot, Judas Priest, early Blind Guardian, and Helloween. Forging the best of the late 80s and early 90s German, British, and US metal scenes into a new blend of shimmering steel, Tower Hill’s riff-driven, hook-laden traditional metal will have you banging your head and singing along. Lyric Video – Deathstalker – https://youtu.be/IGybnd-HZRU

Replacing the originally announced Lost Nebula, Calgary’s RED CAIN has been imported to perform their power-prog storytelling with Eastern European roots for the masses. They have been making waves since their first release in 2016, with award-winning music videos and concept albums “Kindred: Act I”, “Kindred: Act II,” and “NÄE’BLISS”. The albums contained a ton of genre inspirations, from gothic rock to ambient electronica, power, black, and death metal, and were universally lauded for their inventiveness, variety, and strong conceptual content. They continue this momentum with the latest singles “Firestarter” and “Demons II”. Music Video – Demons II – https://youtu.be/7VViLOrFfQ8

Returning for its 6th edition after another year of crowd-pleasing epic fun in Vancouver, B.C., Canada’s premier melodic and power metal festival HYPERSPACE METAL FEST announces the addition of Symphonic Metal Storytellers, Minneapolis’ AfterTime to their 2025 lineup to replace the unfortunate cancelation of OwlBear.

Since their inception in 2011, AfterTime has been perfecting a potent blend of Symphonic Metal and orchestral film scores. Their songs are larger-than-life and unapologetically epic, with a special focus on adventurous storytelling and marvelous atmospheres. This past September, the band announced Narcissa as their new vocalist and released a version of their song “Sons of Fenrir” with her on vocals. The track is from their latest album “Arcane Horizons” released in May 2024. Video – “Sons of Fenrir” – https://youtu.be/8q-JD0PCLPI

Festival organizer Joey Hockin of Journeyman Productions adds:

“This time of year is always hectic for us, and this year is no exception. Owlbear has been forced to pull out of the lineup this year. For more info on that, watch for a statement from them on their page. In their place, we will have the epic AfterTime from Minneapolis! They’ll be playing Vancouver for the very first time on day 3 of Hyperspace and we can’t wait!”

Being hosted at The Cobalt (April 10 &11th) and the Rickshaw Theatre (April 12th), the full 2025 lineup is ready to be revealed with headliners ENFORCER, PSYCHOSTICK, PLANESWALKER, GLYPH along with Crimson Shadows, Lunar, Owlbear, Tower Hill, Solarus, Red Cain, Tylor Dory Trio, Serpent Rider, Luminator, Heyoka’s Mirror, and Crüzer.

Festival organizer Joey Hockin of Journeyman Productions adds:

“Stoked to unveil the full lineup for Hyperspace 6! Adding to the lineup we have Psychostick, Crimson Shadows, Owlbear, Red Cain, Serpent Rider, and Crüzer! This year is looking like it will be the best year yet and we hope you’ll join us! See you in April!”

Headlining Saturday, April 12th at The Rickshaw Theatre, Sweden’s ENFORCER have proved themselves both live and on record, they stake their place amongst the world’s most renowned heavy metal bands since first forming in 2005. They have toured the world over, playing the biggest festivals and garnering a global fanbase. Their latest sixth studio album Nostalgia (released May 2023 – Nuclear Blast), features 13 heavy metal anthems and throws ENFORCER back to their speed metal roots. Fusing extreme guitar riffing with catchy stadium choruses, ENFORCER is out to conquer the world. Music Video – Nostalgia – https://youtu.be/XhfrJAPbOCY

Supporting ENFORCER on the closing night lineup will be Comedy Metal Kings PSYCHOSTICK.

The Saturday night lineup will also witness the return of the formidable force that is Toronto’s Crimson Shadows bringing forth tales of fantasy and warfare in their fierce melodic power and death metal imbued sound. Thundering across the icy Canadian mountains, Crimson Shadows has awoken after five years away. The band has emerged from the dark and is preparing to forge its own path in this next stage of its journey. Across their defiant career stretching almost two decades, to date notable highlights of Crimson Shadows‘ journey include the band’s appearance at Wacken Open Air in Germany in mid-2013 and subsequent victory in obtaining the title of International Wacken Battle Champions. Alongside international performances, Crimson Shadows has ventured across the length and breadth of their homeland delivering brutality, technical prowess, and unyielding intensity in their melding of power and death. Music Video – Guardians – https://youtu.be/W9BKYvGYeCM

Headlining Friday, April 11th at The Cobalt and returning for their second time at HMF, the duo known as PLANESWALKER features Jason Ashcraft (Helion Prime) and Sozos Michael (Gloryhammer, ex-Helion Prime) present Magic the Gathering-inspired Power Metal. They recently released their latest single “Compleated” and were joined by Carlos Alvarez (ex-Power Theory, Behölder, Shadowdance) on bass and Stefanos Meletiou (The Zilla Project, Private Garden). Music Video – Compleated – https://youtu.be/CBDLtHHvbXE

The second night of the festival will also unleash the first-ever live performance of Lunar, a progressive metal project from California that features members from Witherfall, Helion Prime, Planeswalker, Novareign, Mokili Wa, Nordic Frost, Outloud, and Double Vision. Their fourth and latest album “The Illusionist” features guests Jørgen Munkeby (Shining), Christian Münzner (Obscura), Andy Gillion (Mors Principium Est), Taylor Washington (Paladin), Sam Vallen (Caligula’s Horse), Ben Karas (Thank You Scientist), Gleb Kanasevich, and Patrick Corona. Music Video – Showtime – https://youtu.be/qL5SU9T7ta4

Meant to perform on the 2024 lineup, but forced to cancel, Tylor Dory Trio returns for 2025, they are a monstrous progressive metal unit and beloved by many in Western Canada. This live performance on Friday, April 11th, will be their first following a nearly seven-year layoff. Music Video – The Waitress – https://youtu.be/nh9MxcSqlOE

Opening night of the festival, Thursday, April 10th at The Cobalt, will showcase the Pacific Northwest’s Glyph, which is not just a heavy metal band, they are a crew of intergalactic mercenaries escaping a dying planet in their spaceship, the VSS Dragonlord. Clearly, Glyph isn’t just writing songs, they’re building worlds and they bring it forth in their latest album “Honor, Power, Glory” released this past March.

Lyric Video – Deathstalker – https://youtu.be/IGybnd-HZRU👍

Replacing the originally announced Lost Nebula, Calgary’s RED CAIN has been imported to perform their power-prog storytelling with Eastern European roots for the masses. They have been making waves since their first release in 2016, with award-winning music videos and concept albums “Kindred: Act I”, “Kindred: Act II” and “NÄE’BLISS”.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 21, 2019

BLACKGUARD Announce New Album “STORM” Coming In 2019 + First Show In Four Years In Toronto

March 22  – Coalition  – Toronto, ON w/ Crimson Shadows

Seminal Canadian melodic death/folk metal band BLACKGUARD announces their first show in over four years as well as their plans to independently release their long-awaited fourth studio album “STORM” in 2019 to follow their 2011 full length “Firefight” on Victory Records and 2009’s “Profugus Mortis” released on Sumerian and Nuclear Blast.

The band made the following announcement via their facebook page.

“It is with great pleasure that we can finally start sharing with you our plans for this year! We will be playing our first show in four years at Coalition in Toronto on March 22nd with CRIMSON SHADOWS (Napalm Records) and BOREALIS (AFM Records)! This will be one hell of a fun show with some of our oldest friends so come out and make this a night no one will forget.

Details / pre-order info for our new album “STORM” will be revealed in the coming weeks and of course, some new music for everyone to sink their teeth into. It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally here so stay tuned!

We would like to take this time to thank all of you from the bottom of our black hearts for your continuing support for this musical entity that has been such a huge part of our lives for so long. This next chapter in our history is a return to our roots, we’re going at this alone again without the shackles of business obligations that brought us to the brink in the past. This is a labor of love beyond the typical metrics of “success” or “failure” and sharing this piece of us with you is our apotheosis.

And finally, for those who don’t know how this all began….

Our out of print first record “So It Begins…” under our original name “Profugus Mortis” is now available for download on our Bandcamp page (https://blackguardmtl.bandcamp.com/album/so-it-begins-5) for 5$. It’s a trip to hear the band’s evolution to what we are now and we hope you will enjoy this glimpse into our history.

Thank you all.

‘Mordrake’ is now available on iTunes and Bandcamp with a limited edition Hate T-Shirt designed by Bob Skelton, the acclaimed airbrush artist responsible for the band’s corpse-paint. Produced at Uplift Studios by Kevin Jardine (Slaves On Dope) and co-produced by Dan Lauzon (Entropy) and Hollow, the debut is the follow up to the band’s 2010 EP ‘Cynoptic Eschaton’ and features 12 extreme tracks all recorded with an unique analogue approach. Hollow comments:

“Well, it’s finally the time to unleash our first full-length album MORDRAKE upon the masses and melt your heads with this powerhouse. We slaved over this beauty for a little more than a year now and we fine-tuned every little detail for you to enjoy.

Get it, put on your headphones, and immerse yourself in the madness, the ecstasy, the chasm of our hearts and souls. Take an hour off from the world and delve into it to experience the pure labor of love we now offer you all.

We sincerely hope you’ll get your fill of metal from this and that it stays in your musical rotation for a long, long time, for this album is dedicated to you all, without which Hollow would have no reason to be.

“Clad in black and painted in ghostly, skeletal white and gray, Montreal’s Hollow is one of North America’s most deceptively original and subversive underground metal acts today. Exploiting the surface aesthetics of black metal, the band surprises with an abundance of musical diversity and depth.” – Metal Underground

“A primer on how extreme metal ought to sound: adventurous, expansive, daring, and heroic.” – Metal Underground

“Hollow show a lot of versatility and excellent chops on a very promising debut effort.” – About.com Heavy Metal

“Mordrake is simply remarkable, one of the most promethean debuts in a long time and certainly within death metal this year, though Hollow have a sound and presence which you cannot confine to a single genre or singular mind-set. A brilliant album from a brilliant band” – Ring Master Review

“At first listen, I knew this band was a step ahead of the pack. These guys are tight as hell, and create an intense atmosphere with their brutal approach to metal…For only having one guitarist, they’ve certainly got the right one – this dude shreds!!! Hot damn. And of course, as for vocal delivery, you get it all on this album. Nice high black metal-eque screaming, demonic harmonies, and intense gutteral death metal growls.

All of these guys are above average musicians on their own, which is blatantly evident when listening to them play as a band. I would jump at the opportunity to see Hollow play live, and if they’re coming to play near you, I advise you do the same. But more importantly, if you’re a black metal fan, get yourself a copy of Mardrake when it comes out on May 30th.” – Counter Culture Nerd

– Muzik Injection
