The electrifying quartet of Canada’s Iron Kingdom have a hot new album “The Blood Of Creation” ready for release and can be heard in full at https://youtu.be/4pk7QzM4gBo

“The Blood Of Creation”, the band’s fifth, is not a concept album, but it does have a trilogy about the creation myth from the ancient Mesopotamians. It tells the tale of Tiamat and Marduk and the creation of the heavens, the earth, and mankind. This story is known as being one of the oldest, if not the oldest known story from mankind. The band comments on the album:

“Our music is best described as if Iron Maiden and Judas Priest had a child and raised it on Hammerfall, Helloween, Rush, and, Blind Guardian. With this album, we feel like we’ve merged the more straightforward approach of our last record ‘On the Hunt’ with the storytelling and epic quality of our earlier releases. We took advantage of the forced hiatus from shows and spent the longest on writing that we have for any of our previous efforts and feel like it’s really paid off. The pandemic also brought us a new drummer to solidify what we feel is our strongest lineup yet and his influence is felt on this record. This album shows the level of maturity we have reached as songwriters as well as musicians while maintaining what makes an Iron Kingdom release.”

According to the band, they expect that this new offering will be very exciting for fans old and new. They have caught the essence of all the previous albums into one killer new package, there are fast songs, mid-tempo bangers, and even an epic. They’ve put the time into getting this album just right and it shows.

“The Blood Of Creation” was completely self-produced, written, and recorded. The album was sent out for mixing (Andy Boldt) and mastering (Greg Reely), but they handled everything else. vocalist/guitarist Chris Osterman engineered the record with some help from the band and some friends (Dan Yakimow, Jeff Black).

With “The Blood Of Creation” listeners can expect the usual mix of fantasy and history-inspired songs that aim to entertain and at least lightly educate about past events and beliefs. They are recommended for fans of Queensrÿche, Riot, and Iron Maiden.

The band will also be hosting a now sold-out release party for their release day on Nov 4th at Wise Hall in Vancouver. For more info, please visit the following link here.

“Loads of riffs and melodies some excellent lead breaks and pounding rhythms. This is bonafide, foot on the monitor, fist pumping, horn throwing real metal. I have never heard Iron Kingdom before but on the strength of this I will be obtaining the back catalogue very soon.” – My Global Mind (The Blood of Creation)

“Iron Kingdom brings another solid heavy metal album with the fifth album ‘The Blood of Creation’. Slightly progressive, but especially heavy… Give the band a listen, you will be surprised!” – Metal Experience

“the hype is real: “The Blood of Creation” is an overdose of classic power metal, a homage to the late 80’s – 90’s power metal heroes: HELLOWEEN, GAMMA RAY, HEAVEN’S GATE, SCANNER, early CHINCHILA (remember those guys?), EDGUY with a touch of American stuff like RΙΟΤ.” – Forgotten Scroll

“They are aiming at the classic sound from the 70s and 80s, so if you want something modern then you have nothing to pick up here. The lyrics speak of war, fear, sacrifice and pain. Luckily the music is not that dark though, but rather very uplifting and pleasant, as it’s a more melodic kind of heavy metal that we get from this band, even though there’s some more powerful tracks too…. I like what I hear.” – Hard Rock Info

Streaming Now! Violin Prog Metal Montreal’s CYDEMIND Explore Instrumental Creativity With The “The Descent”

Sophomore Album “The Descent” Out Nov 4th

L-R – Camille Delage (piano and keyboards), Kevin Paquet (guitars), Olivier Allard (Violin), Nico Damoulianos (Bass), Alexandre Dagenais (Drummer)

Montreal, Canada’s Cydemind is a progressive metal band backed with a violin instead of vocals and they are now ready to offer up their sophomore album “The Descent” due out on Friday, November 4th, 2022 to follow their highly praised 2017 debut album “Erosion”, which was produced by Christian Donaldson (Cryptospy).

“With Erosion, we were young and were still trying to define our own sound, which is why we previously chose producer Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation), who had considerable experience under his belt. This time around, the band has made a decision to lean toward self-production. Although we’ve encountered obstacles along the way, as well as significant delays, we couldn’t be prouder of the final product.” says drummer Alexander Dagenais.

Today, before “The Descent” officially releases, the band has teamed up with MetalInsider for the album’s full stream premiere, which can be heard at the following link HERE.

“The Descent” is seven new songs created for a listening experience that’s just under 60 minutes and meant to be heard from beginning to end. Cydemind presents the album to be heard on multiple listens to capture the recurrent themes, sometimes hidden, sometimes obvious, but in the end, the band really wants to reward prog fans to dive into the concept of the record ranging from obsessions and the abysses into which the human mind can plunge itself into.

Kevin Paquet explains further:

“Structurally, the album really represents a descent into hell. The first track, Obsessions, acts as an opening. There are rhythmic and melodic motifs from each track on the album. The opening melody acts a bit like the leitmotif of the obsession (whichever it is) and comes up several times throughout the album. Subsequently, the album continues with Hoax, which incorporates several elements of funk. As the name suggests, you should not expect the album to respect that tone; on the contrary, the music gradually turns into something much darker and complex.”

Commented by such outlets as TheProgSpace “Cydemind “Breach” The Walls of Normality With Next Violin Prog Metal Single” and Everything IS Noise “There Isn’t Any “Hoax” in the Quality of the Latest Cydemind Single”, Cydemind‘s new album definitely brings the band to another level in terms of writing and playing, and they’re pretty confident their fans, new and old will think the same. Compared to their first full-length “Erosion”, which was mainly focused around metal. The Descent explores new colors within the metal genre as well as integrates new styles and sounds.

The main songwriters for “The Descent” were Kevin Paquet (guitars) and Olivier Allard (Violin), but as a unit, all members still discussed with each other, making sure everyone’s input was satisfied. When the songs were done, drummer Dage (Alexandre Dagenais) creates his parts on top of everything.

Recommended for fans of prog bands and artists like Dream Theater, Symphony X, Haken, Tigran Hamasyan, and Avishai Cohen, Cydemind’s new album “The Descent” will be out on November 4th, 2022.

The album was mixed by Simon L’Espérance (Karcius) and mastered by Tony Lindgren (Fascination Street Studios). The cover art for the album was created by Alexander Dagenais.

“Violin metal shredders, Cydemind, has just released a beautiful new video for their “Winter” single, using the gorgeous backdrop of Quebec, Canada. The neo-classical prog track showcases the amazing abilities of this young band on the rise, with captivating hooks that’ll leave you awestruck and hitting up their Bandcamp page for more!” – Metal Injection

“The instrumental band puts the violin front and center, which is strange (if not unheard of) in and of itself. They’ve also released a sweet cover of Vivaldi’s “L’inverno” (“Winter”), from The Four Seasons, which is definitely the first time in the 12+ years of MetalSucks that we’ve had to type that sentence… and they’ve done so when we’re just about a week away from the first day of spring, which was a ballsy decision. And on top of all of that, they made a really, really beautiful video for the track out on the frozen tundras of Québec. Do they have tundras in Québec? Whatever. The video looks really cool. Also, cold. I got mild frostbite just watching it.” – Metal Sucks

“presented what will easily be among the top prog metal albums of the year…” – Metal Underground

“An epic album in every sense of the word” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Cydemind have shown me two things on this debut album: they’re damn good musicians, and they have the ability to write compelling music that sticks with you. ” – Angry Metal Guy

Montreal, QC – October 28, 2022

Out Now! Canadian Thrashers TRISKELYON New Album “Downfall” via Moribund Records + New Video “Hunger”

New Album “Downfall” Out October 2022 via Moribund Records

Canadian melodic power thrashers Triskelyon’s debut album “Downfall” is now out as October 28th, 2022 via Moribund Records.

For its release day, the band is sharing their latest lyric video for the track “Hunger”

Watch and listen to “Hunger” – https://youtu.be/zAh9PJcDC-o

Band founder Geoff Waye adds:

“The big day for Triskelyon is here! To think, almost one year ago this time is when I first began the idea of starting this project and less than a year later and the full-length album is not only done, but is coming out on the legendary label Moribund Records! I’m very grateful for the opportunity to release this album thanks to them and to Odin from Moribund who has been awesome to work with. Thanks to all the album guests who made this dream a reality, and to Michael Small for doing a killer job mixing and mastering the album. Thanks as well to Jon Asher for being the PR god that he is. Please check out the singles and videos including today’s new release for the track “Hunger”. If you like what you hear, please buy a CD, your support would be greatly appreciated!”

Founded by Geoff Waye, guitarist for Artach and Category VI, Triskelyon was conceived in late 2021 as a studio-only project. By January 2022, the band featuring contributions from vocalists Pete Healey and Marlee Ryley (Hyperia), along with drum programming by Raul Marques (Burning Torment) made their introduction to the metal world with a 3-track self-titled EP.

Composed and written mostly by Geoff Waye, with drum programming provided by Raul Marques, “Downfall” sees the band’s next evolution as their first full length and it utilizes a myriad of both male and female guest vocalists from Oberon, Hyperia, Catagory VI and Incidium. “Downfall” has a range and depth of sound unique in today’s modern thrash metal scene, setting the band ahead and apart from the hordes of young new acts. Triskelyon also features guest bass appearances from members of Afterforever and Category VI, making Triskelyon a veritable supergroup of the Canadian metal scene.

Depicting a nature taking over post-apocalyptic view of our ever-screwed-up world, Triskelyon keeps with 80’s thrash tradition employing world-ending yet self-empowering socially conscious lyrical themes. From straight-up 80’s thrashers like “Odyssey (Blessed by Steel)”, to the power metal laced “Find A Way”, and more anthemic thrash tracks such as “Hunger” and “Willful Ignorance”, “Downfall” is sure to satiate even the most discriminating old-school and modern thrash metal fan alike! The album even features a unique and thrashing rendition of the Billy Idol song “Nobody’s Business”.

Album was mixed/mastered by Michael Small with the post-apocalyptic cover art by IvaanMR11.

With “Downfall”, Triskelyon deliver an amazing headbanging album that harkens back to the old-school days of such luminaries as Forbidden, Agent Steel, Sentinel Beast, Détente, Overkill, and Testament.

“The three songs have the rage, heaviness and some rawness you expect from thrash, but also the melody and speed you’ll find in the more aggressive and harsher forms of power metal (no flowery stuff here, people). Pete’s vocals definitely are more of the aggressive heavy/power metal variety while Marlee shakes the hell out of the speakers with a more aggressive and harsher, yet high-pitched style.” – The Metal Crypt

“This is the kind of band that really plays that pure, raw, seething thrash metal that I love.” – Wings of Death

“Classic heavy thrash, catchy quick stuff with big screamy vox! Great stuff!” – WORT 89.9FM – Mosh Pit Radio – Madison, WI

“The EP thunders around the listener’s ears with a massive, powerful sound and gripping guitar riffs, but is also arranged with great attention to detail. Geoff Waye also acts as lead guitarist in the melodic as well as brute playing with pinpoint accuracy… Thrash fans who expect more than just head banging should remember the name TRISKELYON.” – PowerMetal.de

“What does Melodic Thrash sound like? Well in the eyes (and ears) of Geoff Waye it sounds like Thrash with influences of Traditional Metal, so you have plenty of heavy chugging Thrash riffs, separated by Traditional Metal bridges and big choruses. Opening cut “Hunger” sounds like a classic Anthrax cut from the “Spreading The Disease” era, with Iron Maiden influences all over it and Pete Healey’s higher pitched vocals only enhancing that nostalgic feel.” – Metal Noise

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – February 22, 2022

DIRE PERIL Joins 2022 Hyperspace Metal Festival Lineup

April 15 – 17 – Vancouver, BC, Canada

Hyperspace Metal Festival is pleased to announce DIRE PERIL will be joining the 2022 lineup for the third night of the festival on April 17th. The band is replacing Paladin, who unfortunately had to drop off this year’s event.

The American sci-fi power metal duo DIRE PERIL features vocalist John Yelland (Judicator) and Jason Ashcraft whom will now be doing triple-guitar duty as he will also be performing with his other bands Helion Prime and Planeswalker also scheduled on the festival.

“This is nuts! When HMF organizer Joey Hockin first asked if Dire Peril would like to jump on I politely declined as I thought performing and steering three bands would kill me, but immediately I changed my mind and decided I was down for the challenge! Plus this will make up for not doing any heavy gigging since the Helion Prime tour in 2019. I look forward to returning to Canada and Hyperspace!” says Ashcraft.

HMF organizer Joey Hockin also adds:

“Unfortunately due to logistical challenges, Paladin is not able to make it to Hyperspace this year. We hope we’ll get another chance to host them in the future. In their place, we’re excited to welcome Dire Peril back into the lineup! This means Jason Ashcraft will be playing THREE SETS during Hyperspace. Hyperspace is now less than 2 months away and it is time to start getting excited!”

The third edition of HMF was originally announced for April 2020, but postponed due to the Covid pandemic. Now with the return of live events, festival promoter Journeyman Productions shares the rescheduled 2022 lineup to be held in Vancouver, BC from April 15th – 17th at Funky Winker Beans and the Rickshaw Theatre.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 23, 2020

Festival Line-Up Announced! All Roads Lead To The Electric Highway In Calgary, AB, Canada!

The Electric Highway 2020 Spotify Playlist here.

Buckle up for The Electric Highway Festival, two days of killer bands, rad artists and fuzzy vibes April 17 & 18, 2020 at the historic Royal Canadian Legion #1 in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The Electric Highway Festival has completed its lineup with the addition of the mighty Mothership from Dallas, Texas. The Supersonic Intergalactic Heavy Rock trio’s goal from the beginning has been to carry on the tradition of the classic rock style of the ’70s, updated and amped up for the modern-day. Mothership have created a unique sound that satisfies like a steaming hot stew of UFO and Iron Maiden, blended with the southern swagger of Molly Hatchet and ZZ Top, paired with a deadly chalice of Black Sabbath. Do not miss this chance to hop on board and join Mothership as they tear across the Universal Cosmos!

The Electric Highway Festival has also added Vancouver’s Empress to the lineup.  Both Mothership and Empress will be performing at the festival on Saturday, April 18, 2020. That brings the total number of bands performing during the festival to 22.

The Electric Highway Festival is excited to release its official artwork created by the renowned dark surreal artist David Paul Seymour.  David Paul Seymour is an internationally known illustrator based in Minneapolis, MN who has created artwork for Municipal Waste, Conan, Mastodon as well as Shadow Weaver and Wo Fat who are both performing at The Electric Highway Festival in 2020. David Paul Seymore is also the driving force behind The Planet of Doom, an Animated Tale of Metal and Art and the creator of the Kumasan comic series.

The rest of the 2020 lineup brings an electric offering of North American bands featuring headliners Sasquatch and Wo Fat laying down their brand of fuzzy, kick-ass Desert Rock & Heavy Psych. Duel from Austin, Texas will be playing Canada for the 1st time at The Electric Highway Festival along with Hippie Death Cult & LáGoon both from Portland, Oregon. Festival favorites La Chinga return from Vancouver for their 4th appearance and Calgary’s Gone Cosmic & Buzzard from Victoria, BC are just a few more of the wicked bands that will be playing on two stages over the two days of The Electric Highway Festival, the full lineup below.

The Electric Highway Festival has also partnered with the Veteran’s Association Food Bank this year. The Veterans Association Food Bank was incorporated in September 2018, as a Not for Profit Society. The Association and Food Bank is designed to relieve poverty by providing food and basic, fundamental needs for Veterans and their families. The goal is to promote a stable environment for Veterans affected by loneliness, isolation, addiction, mental health or other health-related issues with peer support programs and social activities. The Association provides a safe and welcoming environment for all Veterans, building a community of Veterans helping Veterans.  The Festival will be collecting donations of food, cash, and various other items which will be donated to the organization.

The Electric Highway Festival is a fully immersive festival experience and offers much more than just music. The festival also features an art & vendor exposition during both days at The Legion, April 17-18, 2020 and a pinball tournament at Pin-Bar, April 18th, 2020.

Exhibitor spaces are still available for the Art and Vendor Exposition. The Expo is open to Artists, Designers, Craftspeople and other creators as well as interesting small businesses. Limited space is available and you can register HERE. Business sponsorships are also available. Please contact the festival for further information at TheElectricHighwayFestival[@]gmail[.]com

The Electric Highway Festival is also getting the whole thing started with a Kick-Off Party on Thursday, April 16th, 2020 at The Palomino Smokehouse & Social Club. This killer line up features Seattle powerhouse psychedelic doom duo Year of the Cobra as they return to Calgary.  They will be joined by Calgary’s Bloated Pig, Outlaws of Ravenhurst, and newcomers Falcotron along with Red Deer’s Smoothsayer.

2 Day Festival Pass holders can pick up their wristbands a day early at The Electric Highway Festival Kick-Off Party.  This event will be free for festival pass holders or $13 at the door for non-pass holders. (Space is limited so make sure to get their early!) Pre-order merch sales will also be available for pick up at this event too. Beat the lineup and come for some bands, beer & BBQ at the Pal!

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – November 5, 2019

All Roads Lead To The Electric Highway Festival In Calgary, AB, Canada!

Buckle up for The Electric Highway Festival, two days of killer bands, rad artists and fuzzy vibes at the historic Royal Canadian Legion #1 in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  The yearly event that previously went by the name 420 Music & Arts Festival, will be returning for its 4th year April 17-18, 2020. Regarding the name change, the organizers explain:

“When we came up with the concept for the festival in the fall of 2016, legalization was only an idea and we had no idea what impact that would have on our festival, but it has been more of a hindrance on many levels. As The Electric Highway, we can focus on the bands, artists, vendors and the growth of the festival without being limited in any way and continue to provide all our guests with an unforgettable festival experience.”

The 2020 lineup brings an electric offering of North American bands featuring headliners Sasquatch and Wo Fat laying down their brand of fuzzy, kick-ass Desert Rock & Heavy Psych.  If that’s not enough, Nebula returns to Calgary for the first time in over a decade! Duel from Austin, Texas will be playing Canada for the 1st time at The Electric Highway along with Hippie Death Cult & LáGoon both from Portland, Oregon. 420 favorites La Chinga return from Vancouver for their 4th appearance and Calgary’s Gone Cosmic & Buzzard from Victoria, BC are just a few more of the wicked bands that will be playing on two stages over the two days of The Electric Highway, the full lineup below.

SHORT BIO
Looking to become the band they never saw, Killitorous is comprised of the passion to grind and the general love of technical death metal. Formed in 2006 in Ottawa, Canada; Killitorous is made up of current and former members of Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Annihilator and a myriad of other bands.

Determined to sound like a combination of their one million favorite death metal bands they envelop technical death metal in an eternal party. A bit cheeky and a metric fuck ton of fun, Killitorous is that raunchy but charismatic friend who fuels every party. Killitorous is a chaotic concoction, best described as technical party chaos death grind and it’s a true 90s death metal experience complete with one hell of an AfterParty!

Working together in 90’s style, Aaron Homma (guitar) writes the main bits (sometimes with members of other bands), Nick Miller (guitar) and Marc Roy (guitar) sprinkle in the harmonies, Eric Morotti (drums) thickens the sauce and the lyrics are written together.

“It’s fucked up really if you think about it”, quips Mat Dhani (vocals), “We name the songs first, which are based on the funniest most memorable topics and scenarios we could come up with. Some true, mostly crazy.”

The demo “Pretend to Make Babies” was released in 2010 and their debut full-length album “Party, Grind” was released in 2014. 5 years later, the continuation of that album will be released in 2019, the aptly named “AfterParty”. It’s more melodic in sound but they’ve ramped up the technically with 3 no- stop guitar harmonies. Killitorous is a chaotic concoction, best described as technical party chaos death grind and it’s a true 90s death metal experience complete with one hell of an AfterParty!

For fans of Symphony X, Dream Theater, Scar Symmetry, Sonata Arctica, Kamelot

#5 on VOIR (Montreal weekly) Top 2016 Quebec Artists for debut album “The Human Paradox”

“an enormously talented band” – Progressive Music Planet

“Montreal has another very hot iron in the fire of metal” – Metal Observer

“their style is tailor made to resonate with fans of Dream Theater and Symphony X, but without the thick layer of pretentiousness that follows the former around.” – Sorrow Eternal

“If you’ve ever wanted a hearty progressive mix of old and new, then look no further. Imagine Dream Theater and Pagan’s Mind thrown into a melting pot and then given a modern makeover. Do you like the sound of that? I do, which is why I like Fractal Cypher.” – Wonderbox Metal

“La production se veut impeccable, les compositions sont copieuses au niveau des arrangements et Fractal Cypher possède cette qualité qui se veut bien importante pour le genre : allier la complexité musicale avec des mouvements sonores accrocheurs.” – Voir

“Montréal Quintet Fractal Cypher aren’t one of those bands you can easily categorise.  Mixing a blend of Power Metal in the vein of Sonata Arctica and Avantasia, but with an aggressive, progressive and technical edge that would sit comfortably along-side the likes of Devin Townsend or Scar Symmetry.  Much like the title of their album ‘The Human Paradox’, the mixing of these styles would seem somewhat paradoxical, however they are successfully and seamlessly blended to work cohesively with one another… they’re definitely one to keep an eye on, that’s for sure.” – Loud Stuff

Line Up From L to R : Steven Cope (Drums), Tommy Fradette (Bass), Simon Lavoie (Vocals), Ludovick Daoust (Keyboards),  Vincent Bruneau (Guitars)

SHORT BIO:

Fractal Cypher exists to captivate audiences with progressive instrumentals that cut through the mesmerizing vocals and provide a new perspective on each listen. Straight out of the heart of Canada’s metal scene, these Montreal metallers constantly shift their compositions with seamless transitions and theatrical interludes to keep audiences on their toes.

Since 2014, Simon Lavoie (vocals), Ludovick Daoust (keyboard), Vincent Bruneau (guitar), Tommy Fradette (bass) and Steven Cope (drums) have been committed to a constant evolution; the powerful quintet is just as versatile in their music as they are in their musical interests, darting between djent and classic rock whilst anchoring on a power and death metalcore.

Their debut album ‘The Human Paradox’ was released in September of 2016, with the follow-up EP ‘Prelude To An Impending Outcome’ slated to be revealed in November of 2018. If reception to the previous album is any indication of the talents of Fractal Cypher, this next release is sure to be a masterwork.

LONG BIO:

Fractal Cypher exists to captivate audiences with progressive instrumentals that cut through the mesmerizing vocals and provide a new perspective on each listen. Straight out of the heart of Canada’s metal scene, these Montreal metallers constantly shift their compositions with seamless transitions and theatrical interludes to keep audiences on their toes.

Since 2014, ex-Far From Reality members Simon Lavoie (vocals), Ludovick Daoust (keyboard), and Vincent Bruneau (guitar) have dedicated themselves to Fractal Cypher and with the addition of Tommy Fradette on bass and Steven Cope on drums, they are set to bring their message to the metal world.

Quoted as calling their music puzzling, the band follows a theme that starts with their band name, Bruneau elaborates: “Fractal is a term employed most of the time to describe a geometric shape or a design. It’s a geometric form or object that constantly evolves from its initial shape. Cypher means a secret method of writing to transmit a message or a code. We thought it would be cool to put the two concepts together, which means a repeating secret code that constantly evolves on itself, so it’s finally a message that can never be found.”

Committed to a constant evolution, the powerful quintet is just as versatile in their music as they are in their musical interests, darting between djent and classic rock whilst anchoring on a power and death metalcore. Each song acts of its own volition almost taking control of the members and shaping a personality and energy, not unlike a living entity. Ludovick is at the helm of songwriting; calculating and unlocking each melody before Lavoie becomes the voice for each piece.

Their debut album ‘The Human Paradox’ produced by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation, Neuraxis) was released in September of 2016, with the follow up EP ‘Prelude To An Impending Outcome’ (also produced by Donaldson) slated to be revealed in November of 2018. If reception to the previous album is any indication of the talents of Fractal Cypher, this next release is sure to be a masterwork.
