Canadian Prog Power RED CAIN Shares New Visualizer For “Precipice of Man”

New Album “Kindred: Act II” Out Now!

Canada’s progressive power gothic metal band Red Cain unleashed their new album “Kindred: Act II” digitally this past January with the CD physical release due out via Sliptrick Records later date this year.

Today, the band presents their latest visualizer for their track “Precipice of Man”.

Vocalist Evgeniy Zayarny adds:

“A ballad, but also…not? Certainly the most experimental track on this album, “Precipice of Man” was born out of focusing entirely on capturing the story and atmosphere related to the track from note one, and creating a musical landscape supporting those elements. Utilizing falsetto vocals and electronic touches not found in other tracks, “Precipice of Man” still keeps the weight and urgency of the album, but provides a necessary introspective and cautiously uplifting element.

Within the “Kindred” concept, this is a track that “takes stock” of the world of the album at the time, featuring three parts from the POV of three characters: the opening stanzas from Zalcoatl’s companion Juliet urging him to push on (“take my hand and step out onto the precipice of Man”), the Nameless Exarch’s ominous Latin chants in the middle of the track as he commands his hordes, and Zalcoatl’s meditation on the role of humanity (“all their songs, they weren’t meant for us…but we are all that’s here”). The track hits a crescendo with an uplifting, determined chorus from all our protagonists together – “There is life in the ashes, there is smoke upon the shore – and your weary hands hold the fate of more than you can know” – showing that there is still hope on the journey to the Sun.”

The video can be seen and heard via its premiere on Folk N’ Rock HERE.

Described as a vehicle of “Melancholy and Rage” and born out of the emerging music scene of Calgary, AB, 2017 YYC Awards Metal Recording of the Year winner Red Cain is a power/progressive metal project with Russian roots. With intricate songwriting, a heavy yet melodic feel reminiscent of progressive acts, and elements of Slavic myth and Russian paganism in the storytelling tradition of the cult of Veles, Red Cain champion a fluid, dynamic, and unique musical style centered around telling dark, conceptual Faustian sagas and constructing those into an unforgettable live experience.

Their new sophomore full-length continues and ends the band’s storytelling of their Kindred saga, which began with their 2019’s “Kindred: Act: 1”. Offering a mix of melodies and metallic styles in power, progressive and goth metal, Red Cain continues to deliver epic adventurous songs with tracks like Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire)”, “Demons”, “Kindred” and “Varyag and The Shrike”.

Vocalist Evgeniy Zayarny comments:

“Step forward in the ranks of the Varyag Mstislav, hear the chilling call of the Nameless Exarch, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the Aztec warrior Zalcoatl in the depths of an ancient Ziggurat. Experimental, aggressive, yet melodic and recognizably Red Cain, the second act in the “Kindred” saga sets the bar even higher in the hybrid prog/power style we have made our own.

Inspired by the age-old Slavic rites honouring the Sun and continuing the storytelling tradition of Veles, this album is an amalgam of myths, genres, and emotions – and we could not be more proud to be able to share it with you.

All stories must come to an end – but this is one where the action and intensity is at its peak. This is a story where the stakes are lethal, where the music is loud and the melodies cut deep – where the frozen North wind chills the land and an eldritch specter hangs over the horizon. Above all, this is a story of humanity reaching out toward the Sun, come what may. This is our story of “Kindred” – and we are absolutely fired up to bring you with us on this mad ride.”

“From the proggy goodness of album opener “Kindred”, to the blast beats of “Baltic Fleet”, to the epic closer “Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire), there is something here for every fan of progressive power metal.  With this being Act II in Red Cain’s Kindred body of work, I really feel as though I entered a movie theater right in the middle of an epic saga. Each song is a journey in and of itself, but each also contributes to the overall fantastic voyage.  I will absolutely be purchasing Act I of this amazing tale and listen from start to finish, the way it was intended. Do yourself a favor and do the same!” – Metal Rules

“If you like your music melodic, mysterious, and gothic, with a progressive power metal base, then this is for you. This has been a joy to review and yet another band to add to my favoured list. ” – The Prog Space

“Zayarny is a powerhouse vocalist and the contortions he forces into Red Cain make for a very diverse record.. the talent behind the record is undeniable, and at the very least, Kindred proved far more creative and thought-provoking than most death metal records I’ve recently tackled. You should give it a shot — even if you’re not a big weenie..” – Angry Metal Guy

“Overall, ‘Kindred: Act II’ is an interesting mix of styles that combine together in technical wizardry to set the backdrop for the continued tales of the warrior Zalcoatl. There’s some unexpected musical influences that bubble to the surface, particularly the liberal use of electronic elements provides a futuristic, yet gothic, element to the tales. Vocally, there’s some clear inspiration from Kamelot going on here. They’re predominantly clean, but with a wide range between high pitched and deep passages. The guitar work is pretty varied as well and at times even hits a distinctly djent groove that seems to appear out of nowhere!… Fans of Kamelot and Mastodon alike will find some common ground with ‘Kindred: Act II’ (and Act I for that matter).” – Uber Rock

“These seasoned metal performers brought me to school with a clear cut album, delivered beautifully across seven tracks. The epic highs and lows of the album leave me wanting more… My hat is off to RED CAIN!” – Metal Temple

“With a flurry of progressive guitars, grandiose vocals and intriguingly wild effects, Red Cain burn brightly from the very start with the opening track, Kindred.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Songs alternate between melodic and more progressive portions in fine fashion. There is also a heroic aspect to the band that assures that they have some variety and also ties them to power metal. The entire affair is uplifting and does a good job getting the listener entranced in the music… a fun album and a very nice way to start the year off. It will also appeal to fans of bands from a number of different sub-genres.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“the crew here found yet another gem from Red Cain, one filled with cosmic terrors this time. Kindred: Act II provides us with an additional slice of that delicious metal geekery that this band is capable of. A record that makes complexity sound easy, even casual. And that’s a feat not many bands master these days anymore.” – Rock Music Raider

Calgary, Canada’s progressive power gothic metal band Red Cain will be unleashing their new album “Kindred: Act II” set for digital release on January 22, 2021 with the CD physical release out via Sliptrick Records at a later date this year. The upcoming full length continues and ends the band’s storytelling of their Kindred saga.

Vocalist Evgeniy Zayarny adds:

“Ride on with us on the second half of the “Kindred” saga – this mad march toward the Sun. Experimental, aggressive, and recognizably Red Cain in its style, “Kindred: ACT II” picks up and expands on the events from our previous album, centralizing the story around the Aztec warrior Zalcoatl, ritually chosen to save his people, and trapped inside an alien pyramid to battle a hungry, unearthly Lovecraftian entity that plans to use him to be released into the world beyond its archaic prison.”

Today, the band shares their fifth single “Baltic Fleet” in support of the forthcoming album. The track is Red Cain’s foray into black metal – a genre that has shaped much of their musical backgrounds.

The band comments:

“We fall, so others can rise again”. Every war has its forgotten heroes. Within the album storyline, they come to Mstislav’s aid at a crucial time to keep the gates shut against an overwhelming enemy presence.

The most aggressive and heavy track on the album, “Baltic Fleet” was written to be a bastard child of Behemoth and Abigail Williams, with our guitarist Tyler Corbett molding our initial idea into an absolute black metal beast – that also means growls will definitely make their way into future RC songs. The track is also inspired by, and commemorative of the concept of the Unknown Soldier, “Baltic Fleet” is the battle cry of the honoured dead that gave their lives for peace. Many of our grandfathers fought in the wars of the 20th century and it is our great and humble privilege to be able to acknowledge their bravery in this small way.

We salute their sacrifice.”

“Baltic Fleet” can be heard via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“Kindred: Act II” follows Red Cain‘s 2019 album “Kindred: Act I” also unleashed via Sliptrick Records. Over the past few months of this year, they have shared four singles off the forthcoming record “Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire)”, “Demons”, “Kindred” and “Varyag and The Shrike”, which can be heard below. Recommended for fans of Kamelot, Mastodon, and Amaranthe.

Stated by frontman Evgeniy Zayarny as wanting to bring back the “Devil’s music” mysticism all too often missing in modern metal acts, Red Cain delivers flair, groove, and an intricate, lethal edge in their music. Listeners might well pick out elements reminiscent of such luminary acts as Kamelot, Symphony X, Tesseract, Amaranthe, Alter Bridge – whipped into a venomous new shape. The current incarnation of the band is all of these influences mixed with a lot of vodka and Eastern European melancholy, shaken and stirred.

Red Cain released its debut self-titled EP in November 2016 to rave reviews from a variety of publications such as Dead Rhetoric, MetalUnderground, and Firewind magazine, among many others. Red Cain’s EP had the honour of winning Metal Recording of the Year at the 2017 YYC Music Awards. The band has a strong emerging fanbase around the world, being named one of the top 200 bands of 2016 by Headbangers Latinoamerica and the EP’s cover art selected as one of 2016’s 15 best by Metal Underground.

Red Cain’s first full-length album “Kindred: Act I” was released in March 2019 to a variety of excellent reviews internationally, reaching #1 on Canadian College Radio Earshot Loud charts and establishing the band as a force in the Canadian metal scene, and landing the band a distribution deal with European label Sliptrick Records. A variety of festival appearances at Loud As Hell Metal Festival, Hyperspace Metal Festival, and Canada Wacken Competition have served to cement that status. Red Cain’s music videos for “Juliet” and “Zero” have to date garnered 11 international film festival awards, including the Music Video Award at the Accolade Global Film Competition (LA).

Canada’s Red Cain is finishing their “Kindred” saga with the release of “Kindred: Act II”. The album was originally slated to be unleashed on December 4th, 2020, but due to interruptions caused by this year’s main culprit, Covid, the band has decided to push back their second studio album’s digital sales date to January 22, 2021, along with announcing the CD physical release will be done by Sliptrick Records at a later date in the new year.

The band comments:

“We are very excited to partner with Sliptrick Records yet again for the physical release of our next album, with this partnership helping us to sell over 1000 copies of “Kindred: Act I” in Europe over the past 6 months. To make sure we coordinate properly and deliver to all our fans worldwide, we are delaying the official album release to Jan 2021. But fear not, Varyags – because we will fill the gap with a monster single that we are particularly proud of, to thank you all for your patience.”

“Kindred: Act II” follows Red Cain‘s 2019 album “Kindred: Act I” also unleashed via Sliptrick Records. Canada’s Red Cain is finishing their “Kindred” saga with the release of “Kindred: Act II” on December 4th, 2020 to follow their 2019 album “Kindred: Act I” unleashed via Sliptrick Records. Over the past few months of this year, they have shared three singles off the forthcoming full length “Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire)”, “Demons” and “Kindred”. Today, they present their final single “Varyag and The Shrike” off the upcoming record. Recommended for fans of Kamelot, Mastodon, and Amaranthe the track can be heard via its premiere on Metal-Rules HERE.

Vocalist Evgeniy Zayarny explains the story behind the song in further detail:

“Much of storytelling has historically been in the form of fables, and with “Varyag and the Shrike”, we wanted to create one of our own as a story element for the “Kindred” album saga. This fable and this warlike anthem are about accepting your own mortality and acknowledging your place in the memory of future generations.

A shrike is a bird of prey that kills via impaling its quarry on thorns, barbed wire, or any other sharp points – leaving a grotesque reminder of its hunting prowess. In this track, they play a Valkyrie-like role, taking the souls and bodies of fallen warriors home.

This track is, in essence, a dirge – a lament for the dead, with our hero metaphorically in dialogue with the shrike. To achieve a doomy, thick, and oppressive atmosphere, we dropped down the guitars, sped up the drums, and put 8 layers of harmonies into the massive, haunting chorus that drives the entire track forward. The track art is a reimagining of the warrior’s head from Alexander Pushkin’s epic poem “Ruslan & Ludmila”, infested here by a malevolent Lovecraftian force, and decorated with the shrike and their victims. We can’t deny taking some inspiration from Dan Simmons’ Hyperion Cantos as well, where the entity known as the Shrike plays a similar, but also a very different part.

Despite the dark content, our hero and the track itself eventually seek to overcome their own intrinsic melancholy and raise a rallying cry to those who follow, to take up his banner and continue onward. Conceptually, the track represents humanity’s continuity through millennia via retellings of glorious deeds and sacrifices in the name of its survival. For even if one falls, many will step forward to take his place.

So lock ranks, stand shoulder to shoulder with your brothers and sisters – and raise your face to the Sun. This is Varyag and the Shrike.”

Described as a vehicle of “Melancholy and Rage” and born out of the emerging music scene of Alberta, Canada, 2017 YYC Awards Metal Recording of the Year winner Red Cain is a power/progressive metal project with Russian roots.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 7, 2020

For fans of Amaranthe, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, The Gathering

Rockshots Records: Basque Gothic Metal Song of Anhubis Next Single “My Own Enemy”

New Album “Reversed Reflection” Out October 23rd

Basque’s Song of Anhubis will be unleashing their sophomore album “Reversed Reflection” via Rockshots Records on October 23rd, 2020. The band creates a passionate, introspective, intense, and diverse gothic metal that was first introduced to the world on their 2016 debut full length “Revenge As Redemption”. Not quite following in the exact musical footsteps of their precursive album, their second record takes a 180-degree turn as it experiments with electronic elements and sounds more akin to rock and metal along with their staple gothic influences.

Featuring 10 tracks, “Reversed Reflection” is a journey between two opposing worlds, light and darkness, the instinctive, and the rational. Blunt guitars and arpeggios are combined with electronic elements, very melodic passages even melancholic in some cases, with the strength of double bass drumming and simpler fragments with the addition of some extra ingredients that will surprise listeners. All of the emotion on the record is felt through the diverse vocal range of frontwoman Rei Reych.

Reych adds:

“I have always been passionate about music and singing since I was very young, so music has been present in my life all the time, both in good times and bad. That’s why I always wanted to create my own soundtrack for my feelings and experiences, to be able to express everything that is sometimes difficult to define with words alone. When I met Paul (the guitarist of ‘Song of Anhubis’) collaborating with my voice in a concert of the band in which he played, and after having already been the vocalist of two bands, he offered me to start a project together. We had the same musical interests, a very similar taste and we connected great from the beginning, so when he showed me the riffs he had composed, I accepted immediately, we started this adventure called ‘Song Of Anhubis’…”

Taking four years to write and record, Song of Anhubis experimented with different styles for their second full-length offering. There is nothing on this album that they have not composed with all the dedication, attention, and care. Each part of each song had to give the band the feeling they were looking for to represent what Song of Anhubis is and what they wanted fans to experience as a sonic journey.

“We wanted to combine ethereal passages on the one hand with forcefulness on the other to create a perfect mix between the two worlds, the primitive and strong alongside the melodic and introspective. On this album, we talk about rage or anger, the fight against the injustices we see, or live every day. We also speak about the moments when surrender is tempting, about the life force inherent in each one of us, the resilience, the struggle between routine and the stereotyped against what is really transcendental and authentic, the deepest feelings, etc. In conclusion, it’s an album full of lights and shadows that we hope the listener will enjoy and connect with. Something that Francisco Plazas (our graphic designer) has captured perfectly for the album artwork too.” adds the band.

Leading up to the album’s release, the band is sharing with fans the second single off the record “My Own Enemy”, which can be heard at the following links YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music.

Vocalist Rei Reych explains the single:

“It’s a complex song like a progressive spiral, but at the same time with a very different style. It’s a very dynamic track that also is about, in a certain, of the difficulty of accepting oneself, the force exerted on all of us by stereotypes, the politically correct, the superficiality, and the feeling of emptiness that all this brings. It’s also about that loneliness that you can feel, even if you are surrounded by people, the complete feeling of loneliness in the crowd.”

“Reversed Reflection” is out on October 23, 2020 and available for CD preorder HERE.
First single  “Teratos” YouTube (Music Video), Spotify.

In celebration of announcing the release of “Reversed Reflection”, the band is sharing with fans the music video for the first single “Teratos”. The track is melodic featuring double drums, edgy guitars, and incredibly high operatic vocals.

Vocalist Rei Reych explains the single:

“‘Teratos’ is a simple yet complex song that we composed in order to bring out the wildest and most heartbreaking part of us. ‘Teratos’ came at a time in my life when I needed to let off steam about certain personal issues, so I turned to it completely. The constant self-demanding and non-conformist attitude led me to rehearse every day in whatever little free time I could find to increase my vocal range and explore new voice techniques. This track is actually a small internal conversation about emotional awakening, that inherent force that at one point comes out like a beast that had been locked up. Of course, it is based on my own experiences and it is a track in which I gave extreme importance. Let’s say that what I wanted at that moment more than anything else in the world was to express myself to the fullest with my voice and this track is one of those.”

Canada’s Red Cain is finishing their “Kindred” saga with the release of “Kindred: Act II” this coming October. So far the band has unleashed two singles off the forthcoming full length “Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire)” and “Demons”. Today, they are excited to give a deeper glimpse into the world of their sophomore album with their third single “Kindred”.

Vocalist Evgeniy Zayarny explains the story behind the song in further detail:

“‘Kindred’, the title track of our saga, is a song we have spent 3 long years waiting to release. Written before the songs on “Kindred: Act I”, and debuted live in subsequent shows, this song in many ways defined and created the concept for the tracks that followed. Haunting, powerful, challenging, and lyrically intense – it is still one of the songs we are most proud of. And it is time for it to be revealed.

“Kindred” places us behind the burning eyes of the secondary antagonist of the saga, the Nameless Exarch – the high priest of the malign entity seeking to remake the world in its image. His past forgotten and irrelevant, the Nameless Exarch rises as the herald and prophet of this Lovecraftian force and rallies the disenfranchised, disillusioned, and discontent under his aberrant banner – triggering a tidal wave of chaos engulfing the globe.

The composition of the track follows the path of the Exarch, starting with his call: “something reached and woke me up – and all is crumbling”, and is meant to oscillate between the last moments of introspection of the man who will become the entity’s vessel – “another lonely pilgrim to watch the world burn”, and his capture and dissolution in the maelstrom of fanaticism and madness. The soft vocal interludes play on the pervasive cult mentality of reality being but a dream, with the man that will be the Exarch begging his newfound master to “bring me awake…I need it”. The introspective sections quickly give way to the massive, heavy, and djenty main riff with spiraling leads – his transformation – toward an elevated, haunting chorus that shows the Nameless Exarch finally assuming his mantle with the anthemic “I dream of Kindred mine – across the world, we are the night.”

So don your robe, find a secluded, gothic cavern, light one red candle – and listen to the Exarch’s call with us. This is “Kindred”.

Recommended for fans of Kamelot, Mastodon, and Amaranthe, “Kindred” can be heard via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

More singles are planned to be unleashed leading up to the expected release of “Kindred: Act II” this coming October 2020.

About:

Described as a vehicle of “Melancholy and Rage” and born out of the emerging music scene of Alberta, Canada, 2017 YYC Awards Metal Recording of the Year winner Red Cain is a power/progressive metal project with Russian roots.

Red Cain’s first full-length album “Kindred: Act I” was released March 2019 to a variety of excellent reviews internationally, reaching #1 on Canadian Earshot Loud charts and establishing the band as a force in the Canadian metal scene, and landing the band a distribution deal with European label Sliptrick Records. Calgary, Canada’s Red Cain will be continuing their “Kindred” saga with the release of “Kindred: Act II” this coming October to follow their debut album’s “Kindred Act: I”, which the band is proud to announce has been nominated for a YYC Music Award for Metal Recording The Year for the single “Juliet” ft. Daniel Louden of Benevolent Like Quietus.

The band was nominated alongside Gone Cosmic, Hyperia, Illyrian, and Metavore. A full list of nominees can be found here. In keeping with social distancing guidelines, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to ensure the community stays safe and healthy, the YYC Music Awards are making plans to move this year’s gala to an online, streaming format, on September 20, 2020. More info at https://yycmusicawards.com.

2020 – YYCMA Metal Recording of The Year:
Gone Cosmic – “Sideways In Time”
HYPERIA – “Insanitorium”
Illyrian – “The Entity, Unknown”
METAVORE – “Becoming”
Red Cain – “JULIET [feat. Daniel Louden]”

The band comments on their nomination:

“We are extremely honoured to be nominated for the YYCMA Metal Recording of the Year for the 3rd time with our track “Juliet [feat. Daniel Louden]”. This was a favourite song of ours to write – a goth rock anthem that in many ways highlights our sound – and it became quite the collaboration. We invited Daniel Louden of Calgary band Benevolent Like Quietus to sing alongside our vocalist Evgeniy Zayarny, and first featured Tyler Corbett (on bass from our good friends Osyron) – who has taken up the lead guitar and production duties on our upcoming album “Kindred: ACT II”. We also worked with Calgary director and friend Rik Zak to film our “Juliet” music film, which has to date won 7 international awards.

This song was truly hosted by a cornucopia of local talent. We can’t thank enough the wonderful organizers of the YYC Music Awards, who’ve made this the premier music event in Calgary, but also all the local bands, musicians, journalists, venues – everyone involved with the Calgary and Canadian music scene. It’s difficult terrain right now, but celebrating each other’s achievements and pushing on is how all great stories are written. And we are extremely proud that our own musical stories resonated enough within the scene to land us this nomination in 2020.”

Described as a vehicle of “Melancholy and Rage”, Red Cain recently unleashed two brand-new singles from their forthcoming album “Kindred: Act II” due out this October. The album continues the story of the warrior Zalcoatl and combines ancient myths and stories with a commentary on how these exist and apply in modern society.

The first single, “Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire)” is a djenty, aggressive, and thrashy Aztec-influenced concept track in the vein of Mastodon, detailing the protagonist Zalcoatl’s descent into an alien ziggurat. The second single, “Demons” is a demonic ritual and goth rock tour de force, it’s heavy, catchy, laden with a gothic drawl, dark lyrics, and electronic influences, the bastard child of Charon, Sisters of Mercy, and Lord of the Lost.

About:

Described as a vehicle of “Melancholy and Rage” and born out of the emerging music scene of Alberta, Canada, 2017 YYC Awards Metal Recording of the Year winner Red Cain is a power/progressive metal project with Russian roots.

The band aims to deliver its follow-up to “Kindred: Act I” in 2020.
