“Costumes, and accordian, and epic synths; Oh My!  If you like to ham it up with bands like Equilibrium, you’re in for a treat.  This is some full-on, honey baked metal that wavers between melodic death and folky, clean-sung tavern songs.  Windir-styled Neoclassical guitar harmonies one minute, grand larping tunage the next…an extravagent atmosphere…I want to throw on a kilt and swing a sword…Fav’s: Odin’s Fury, Mortal Supremacy, Promised Land” – Metal Trenches

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – February 2, 2017

For fans of Wintersun, Equilibrium, Ensiferum, Finntroll, Dimmu Borgir

Montreal Viking Metal VALFREYA Streaming Full Album ‘Promised Land’

The world needs heroes now more than ever. In the shape of Montreal’s larger-than-life metal warriors VALFREYA, it has them! And in their striking vocalist Crook, they have their own Valkyrie!.

In 2009, vocalist Crook wanted to play something akin to folk metal, but even more aggressive and fast paced. Combining Valhalla and the Norse goddess Freya, the band has been creating music and lyrics to revolve around stories inspired by Norse mythology.

Orchestral and death metal with a hint of folk music, the prolific VALFREYA have released two well-received EPs (‘First Chronicles’ and ‘Acoustic Chronicles’), an impressive 2012 debut album entitled ‘Path To Eternity’ via Maple Metal Records and have just unleashed their second ‘Promised Land’ independently on January 13, 2017.

“The album is a journey through a lot of emotions and situations, giving life to a host of varied songs, each with a different sound and personality. The story behind the album is about Eric The Red discovering America and how he defies the Gods, but pays a hefty price for that defiance. ” says VALFREYA about the release. “It’s a step-up in sound quality and has more intricate guitar parts and better-written music that with every listen you can discover parts you hadn’t noticed before. On top of that we have an original sound and songs! We want to give more to people that enjoy good riffs!”

Just as you hear on record, VALFREYA promises the fans a unique live experience. What you hear on the album is what you get on stage. All vocals, whether clean or screams, are done by the band members both in studio and live. They dress in a fantasy-like Viking fashion to go with their story-telling, which gives an interesting visual aspect, while delivering the instrument-playing with precision. VALFREYA has shared the stage with Arkona, Dark Tranquility, Nekrogoblikon, Necronomicon, Koorpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Tyr and Insomnium.

‘Promised Land’ is now streaming in full at the following links:

“We’re looking to gather funds for the recording of our second full length album, which we plan to go in studio for around March 2016. We’re pretty happy with what we were able to do with limited funds on our first album and EP, but we want to raise the bar much higher for the next one with quality of production, better marketing and more merch for fans. Plus, with this campaign we’re looking to gain more exposure so we can encourage opportunities of playing where the fans want to see us! Even a simple share to supports us is much appreciated!’ comments vocalist Korrinn.

The Indiegogo campaign will offer fans various perks in return for their support starting from as little as $5 for a farmer’s fealty to up to $550 for the raiders plunder. Full details can be found here.

Where the money goes:

Here’s how the costs all break down:

About:

Valfreya is a symphonic Viking metal band from Montréal, Quebec, Canada. The band was created in February 2009 by Korrinn (Corinne Cardinal), female singer and main composer. Her compositions have a much more aggressive musical sound than typical folk metal. Over the years many members joined and left to finally settle with the band’s current lineup who all bring their own musical ideas to the group.

Their first EP offers a lively, energetic and epic music which will quench listeners’ musical thirst with a both symphonic and beautiful yet powerful style.

They released the full album “Path to Eternity” on February 2012 on the label “Maple Metal Records”.

This album will carry you to an era of myths and legends. It delivers a catchy and aggressive epic style within the Viking folk metal genre. “Path to Eternity” is an impressive piece of work on all levels; music, concept and artwork. It will not only please folk metal fans but also those in need of a good dose of mead with their daily brutality.

The Viking metallers have put aside their electric guitars and released a totally acoustic EP entitled “Acoustic Chronicles” in May 2013, supported by many acoustic live shows.

The band is currently working on a new album to be released next spring 2016.
