STRATUZ Becomes Venezuela’s Most Successful Death Doom Metal Band of 2023 w/ Four Award Wins At “Premios Metal Hecho en Venezuela”

New Album “Osculum Pacis” Out Now!

L-R – Leonardo Rangel (Bass), Geronimo Egea (Guitar), Franklin Berroteran (Vocals, Keyboard), Diego Cabrujas (Drums)

Closing out a fruitful 2023, Stratuz turned out to be the most awarded band of the third edition of “Premios Metal Hecho en Venezuela”, with four award wins, “Best Extreme Band“, “Best Album” for Osculum Pacis, “Best Extreme Vocals” for Franklin Berroterán, and “Best Guitarist” for Gerónimo Egea. These awards recognize the best rock and metal music made in Venezuela in 19 categories.

Undoubtedly, 2023 has been Stratuz’s year, setting precedents and breaking paradigms. The momentum of their album “Osculum Pacis” was named among the best albums of 2022 in more than 20 countries; from there, Stratuz became the first extreme metal band to perform at the Centro Cultural de Arte Moderno with a historic concert on the 17th anniversary of Cresta Metalica Producciones, combining symphonic elements with a live string and choral ensemble. Against all odds, they were nominated for the Pepsi Music Awards, capitalizing on that nomination with a high level of communication work, and ended up winning in the categories “Best Rock Artist” and “Best Rock Album“.

Hailing from Caracas, with almost 40 years of experience and pioneers of extreme metal in the country, Stratuz managed to beat other mainstream bands, which had more media and advertising exposure. Their surprise entry in the Pepsi Music Awards 2023, showed a very positive change in the perception of the content of the record productions, both by the voting members of the Pepsi Music Academy as well as the general public.

In late October, they headlined the Wacken Metal Battle Venezuela, organized by Cresta Metálica Producciones, as a guest band, supporting the bands that competed.

This same year, Stratuz signed with the Wormholedeath record label for the physical distribution of the CD “Osculum Pacis” throughout Europe and America, as well as a Japanese edition.

Osculum Pacis reached the first position in the Jacquin Ravens Top 50 Metal of 2022 and 2023 on the US radio station 99WNRR.

The album “Osculum Pacis” is available on CD / Digital on Stratuzofficial.bandcamp.com and Spotify.

“The track (Left) begins with grim, quiet strumming and then is ignited with a glowing melody pronounced by the electric piano. Gothic vocals follow, tortured with the thought, “We are alone!” As the song develops, it asks of us, “Is today one day more or one day less in your dreams?” Osculum Pacis is a mighty struggle between light and darkness, that fans of Paradise Lost and Type O Negative should take a fond liking to.” – Doomed and Stoned

“the fathers of Venezuelan death/doom” – Femforgacs

“For me this material is the best of the Latin scene of 2022” (Osculum Pacis) – Metallerium

“Osculum Pacis is a brutally artistic journey with Stratuz, it loudly demonstrates their abilities and vision, which they stayed true to throughout all the changes and dynamic shifts that we’ve been through on this sonic trip. I loved how packed is it with pure emotions of anger, melancholy, and growing brutality.” – ROCK ERA MAGAZINE

“Fans of doom metal, death metal – even black metal, can find something to appreciate with “Osculum Pacis”. For metalheads who like their metal dark and more mature with its themes, this is a great release to sink your teeth into.” – Team Brutal

It is an album, a record that can captivate anyone who loves music, both for its lyrical content and for its musical enrichment within rock in different trends and trends, along with orchestral arrangements that surround you. Without a doubt, a musical production for export.” – Cresta Metalica

Venezuela’s STRATUZ Becomes The First Extreme Metal Band To Be Nominated For The Pepsi Music Awards

+ South American Tour Dates (Chile, Argentina, Peru)

New Album “Osculum Pacis” Out Now!

L-R – Franklin Berroteran (Vocals, Keyboard), Geronimo Egea (Guitar), Leonardo Rangel (Baa), Diego Cabrujas (Drums)

The band Stratuz was born to make history. In their 40 years, they have pioneered numerous events and broken many milestones within the Venezuelan rock scene. This time, the quartet from Caracas becomes the first extreme metal band in the country to be nominated for the Pepsi Music Awards in its eleventh edition, specifically in the categories of “Best Rock Artist” and “Best Rock Album” for Osculum Pacis, a record production that was listed among the best releases of 2022 in more than 20 countries, whose promotional tour will be extended to South America between August and September with performances in Argentina, Chile and Peru.

In addition, the band formed by Franklin Berroterán (lead vocals), Gerónimo Egea (guitar), Diego Cabrujas (drums), and Leonardo Rangel (bass), is celebrating their second consecutive year in the Top 50 of The Jacqui Raven Show, on US radio station 99WNRR, as well as their signing with Wormholedeath, a record label whose products are distributed worldwide by Aural Music Group, which has a publishing division managed by Warner/Chappel Music Holland BV (Warner Music Group); its distribution and digital marketing is handled by the US corporation The Orchard INC (Sony Music Ent. ).

“These two nominations for the Pepsi Awards represent for us a very significant step in the history of extreme metal in Venezuela, it’s a recognition of effort, perseverance, and dedication. We feel deeply grateful for this nomination, which motivates us to continue working and building the metal scene, until Venezuelan metal has its own category, giving it the level it deserves”, said Franklin Berroterán.

Besides the South American tour that already has confirmed dates in Argentina, Chile, and Peru, Stratuz also has two very important engagements in the city of Caracas, starting on October 29th, where they will be one of the guest bands at the “2023 Wacken Metal Battle South America, North Region – Venezuela” to be held at the Centro Cultural BOD; then, on November 18th they will perform as special guests at the “Third edition of the Metal Hecho En Venezuela Awards”.

In this year’s Pepsi Music Awards, which received more than 4,100 entries, Stratuz will compete with Venezuelan groups from different rock genres with a proven track record. In the “Best Rock Artist” category, Stratuz will compete against Los Mesoneros, Dischord, and Wincho Schafer. In the category of “Best Rock Album”, they will have as rivals 430 Steps with “Lights Out”, La Tara Bisoñe with “Crudo”, Los Mentas and their “Museo De Los Pillos”, Sorrynotsorry with “The Meaning Of Life” and again the ex – Sentimiento Muerto/Atkinson Wincho Schafer with his solo album “We Are What We Are”.

The album Osculum Pacis, mixed and mastered by Arturo Banús, is the fourth full-length album by Stratuz, which includes 11 original songs that delve into different trends such as gothic rock, death metal, doom metal, and even some elements of symphonic rock. In March of this year, it was performed live, with a choir and a string ensemble at the Centro Cultural BOD, the first time that an extreme metal band offered a concert in this venue. Journalists, musicians, producers, and cultural managers of the stature of Félix Allueva, Gregorio Montiel Cupello, Humberto Sánchez, Eduardo Sáez, and Arturo Ochoa gave excellent reviews of this performance, which they described as “historic”, “out of the ordinary”, and “unique in its style”.

The invitation is to vote for Stratuz in the eleventh edition of the Pepsi Music Awards, in the categories of “Best Rock Artist” and “Best Rock Album” through the following link:

Venezuelan Atmospheric Death Doom STRATUZ Announces South American Tour Dates (Chile, Argentina, Peru)

New Album “Osculum Pacis” Out Now!

L-R – Franklin Berroteran (Vocals, Keyboard), Geronimo Egea (Guitar), Leonardo Rangel (Baa), Diego Cabrujas (Drums)

Venezuelan atmospheric death/doom Stratuz is adventuring across South America this August and September for tour dates to promote their latest album “Osculum Pacis” released in April 2022. The band will be kicking off the tour in Santiago, Chile on August 30th and continue across the country towards Argentina and wrap up in Cusco, Peru on September 16th. More shows will be added and announced at a later date (current dates listed below).

When presenting themselves live Stratuz transmits a much more powerful energy than on their recordings, and there are always comments that the band sounds much better in concert than on album, and this is because of the particular vitality that can be appreciated in their performances.

The band comments about going on tour:

“This is the formal start of our international tour, and we want to cover as many places as possible to continue promoting Osculum Pacis. We want to have direct contact with the audience and share with each of the bands that will share the stage with us.”

This will be the band’s first tour since going on hiatus in 2006 and reforming in 2019. To mark their return to their latest album “Osculum Pacis” is an immersion into the band’s own universe of sound, which will lead you to listen to each of the themes repeatedly and thus discover each sound layer and the sensations to awaken you.

“So many years away from the scene led us to experiment with other musical currents and the studio, which allowed us to nourish ourselves and thus reach the level we are at now. This record we hope will awaken your senses with its eleven tracks that ebb and flow through dreary gutturals, majestic choruses, and heart-pumping riffs.” says the band.

Lyrically, “Osculum Pacis” speaks of the abuses of the church and its deafening silence in the face of so many denunciations of abuse. It speaks of the manipulation of the masses, and injustice, but at the same time, it also speaks of the awakening of consciousness, of death as a process of transformation, and the need to change ourselves in order to rise up and banish our own miseries. It speaks of rising up aware of who we are.

Stratuz is recommended for fans of Paradise Lost, Tiamat, and Moonspell.

The album “Osculum Pacis” was released on April 26, 2022, and is available on CD / Digital on Stratuzofficial.bandcamp.com, and Spotify.

Venezuelan Atmospheric Death Doom STRATUZ Awaken Your Senses With Symphonic Live Video “Back To The Sun”

New Album “Osculum Pacis” Out Now!

L-R – Franklin Berroteran (Vocals, Keyboard), Geronimo Egea (Guitar), Leonardo Rangel (Baa), Diego Cabrujas (Drums)

Stratuz is an atmospheric death/doom Metal band based in Venezuela and they are pleased to present their new live video for “Back To The Sun“. The track comes off of their album “Osculum Pacis”, which was released in April 2022. Having disbanded in 2006, and reformed in 2019, this latest offering pushed them to increase the technicality of the playing and work harder in the studio. Many years away from the scene led them to experiment with other musical currents, nourish themselves, and create inspirational, gloomy, and engaging music. They comment on the single “Back To The Sun“:

“It could be said that it is a kind of ritual, where a living master who has left a deep mark among his followers through his teachings is bid farewell, and these, as a sign of respect, prepare his return home, the abode from which we all come. It is the closing of a cycle of transformation, transmutation, life and death or death and life.”

Stratuz invites you to become immersed in their universe of sound and delve into the themes of the human being from existential, philosophical, and religious points of view. Awaken your senses with eleven tracks that ebb and flow through dreary gutturals, majestic choruses, and heart-pumping riffs.

The band is currently preparing to continue promoting their latest album “Osculum Pacis” in Venezuela and other countries. They are recommended for fans of Paradise Lost, Tiamat, and Moonspell.

The album “Osculum Pacis” was released on April 26, 2022, and is available on CD / Digital on Stratuzofficial.bandcamp.com, and Spotify.

The live video for “Back To The Sun“ was taken from their memorable performance this past March 10th in the Venezuelan city of Caracas, where they were accompanied by a string ensemble and a choir.

=============================================================

The album as a whole:
OSCULUM PACIS

Lyrically, it speaks of the abuses of the church and its deafening silence in the face of so many denunciations of abuse. It speaks of the manipulation of the masses, and injustice, but at the same time, it also speaks of the awakening of consciousness, of death as a process of transformation, and the need to change ourselves in order to rise up and banish our own miseries. It speaks of rising up aware of who we are.

About The Album Artwork:

The art of the album represents all the victims of the church, living or dead. The void of justice, the Kiss of Peace and Mea Culpa with each of their victims.

It is the indelible presence of their excesses, their sins, their demons, their double standards, their contradictions as an institution and of a deep reflection that should come someday.

Track By Track

MORNING STAR
Morning Star’ refers to the first light we see at dawn, that first star reminding us that the first light of the day reaches the spiritually higher men first, just like the last light of the day.

Morning Star’ represents Lucifer as the bringer of light. Light as knowledge. He is the bringer of light on our planet both in the material and spiritual way, and it’s in the hands of each to find their own light and understanding to wake up from so many layers of lies set through time.

FATHER AMORTH(e)

This song is dedicated to the late priest Gabriele Amorth or, as he was known in his lifetime, Father Amorth, who was the most respected and important exorcist in the Vatican. Within the song, there are Latin verses of the ritual used by the Vatican to perform exorcisms and it invites him to exorcise his brothers for all the outrages they have done against innocents, instead of hunting demons in vulnerable people.

HOLY GRAIL
It is arguably a darkly romantic theme, mixing the desire of a religious lady with someone very contrary to her faith, leading to the point of highlighting the weakness of the flesh and the energy that is released through desire, the value of blood and the chalice between her thighs.

CAELIBATUS
This song speaks of the fragility that can reach any religious person who practices celibacy, this tortuous measure to suppress the desires and the unnatural punishment to which his body is subjected.

The flesh is flesh and everything needs a balance, celibacy definitely does not have any attribute that allows that balance, who knows if this is part of the problem within this institution to commit so many abuses.

IN THE NAME OF GOD
It is a story of a priest who abused a child and takes his own life, he speaks of having committed these faults “In the Name of God” and blames the child for this attraction, however, the torment gives him no rest and he takes his own life as a way of escape, however, this is not enough to erase his atrocity.

BACK TO THE SUN
It could be said that it is a kind of ritual, where a living master who has left a deep mark among his followers through his teachings is bid farewell, and these, as a sign of respect, prepare his return home, the abode from which we all come. It is the closing of a cycle of transformation, transmutation, life and death or death and life.

SODOMIZED
It reflects the grotesque and disgusting nature of pedophiles within the Catholic Church, as well as the sarcasm with which they have handled the denunciations and the approving looks often given by the parents of some victims who believed more in the aggressors than in their own children.

DAWN
Dawn is a call for the awakening of consciousness, for progress and growth as individuals, to leave aside the manipulation of religions. It’s a call to demolish ignorance so that everyone can raise their voice with strength, but above all with solid foundations. Today we are burdened and saturated by the environment, we live for the sake of living and drifting.

LEFT
This song reflects that emptiness that many people feel internally, that feeling of abandonment, of loneliness, of neglect, that lack of sense for being on this plane, taking refuge in their own sorrow.

CONDEMNED
It is a rather crude and fulminating theme, as it goes against everything established, the political and religious power to manipulate the masses to their will and interests, a race destined to its own misfortune where mistrust, hatred and revenge reign, where competition is a mechanism to cancel the other, where the suffering or failures of others can be the satisfaction of many. It’s a misanthropic song to a certain extent.

Fun Facts – Story Angles:
1.    Stratuz was the first Venezuelan band to write songs against the Catholic Church and in the 80’s it was almost a crime to do so, this stirred up the country’s underground scene and the scandals began.

2.    In a major newspaper in the country, a whole column was devoted to discrediting Stratuz and the headline was, Stratuz worshippers of Satan. The effect was the opposite and the band became more popular.

3.    An interesting anecdote was a show that took place in a theatre under a Catholic church in 1989, the euphoria of the audience erupted during Stratuz’s performance and they started to set fire to the seats of the theatre, the priests were horrified by the event, but there was no serious damage, fortunately.

4.    During one of the band’s performances in the late ’80s, in the middle of the performance, a cross was taken from the stage and someone from the audience asked for it, this cross had been taken from a cemetery and weighed about 10 kilos, however, the fan thought it was made of styrofoam, he couldn’t get up from his seat during the show because he was too small and the cross was too heavy for him.

5.    In a concert in Barquisimeto in ’87, we threw a metal cross in the air, this cross was from the coffin of the bass player’s grandmother and we just wanted to use it as decoration, however, the adrenaline made us throw it, but we never imagined that it would fall on the head of one of the assistants producing a deep wound, the good thing about the story is that this boy bought a guitar and started to practice until he became part of a very well known band in the country (the accident was good for something).

6.    During the ’98 tour in Spain, in the city of Seville they were about to suspend the concert because there was a problem between the organizers and the sound engineer, however, some of us had some experience in operating equipment and decided to set up the event and fortunately it turned out to be a success, this even got reviewed in some local magazines.
