Southern California melodic death metal newcomers Ravenmocker have unleashed their second single, “Where The Raven Flies,” in 2026, following the strong reception of their debut track, “Infallible.” The new single continues building the band’s identity: soaring melody, cultural storytelling, and a modern take on the melodic death metal spirit once championed by acts like Children of Bodom, Insomnium, and Kalmah.

Formed in 2025 by guitarist/vocalist Tom Tierney after departing Thrown Into Exile, Ravenmocker was born from a desire to create music that honored Tierney’s Native American heritage while embracing the emotional depth and melodic aggression he had been writing for years.

“I wanted to forge my own path with songs that didn’t have a home yet. Ravenmocker became the vessel for that—something cultural, melodic, and meaningful,” says Tierney.

“Where The Raven Flies” is an anthemic, cinematic track that tells the origin story of the Raven Mocker, a cryptid from Adirondack and Cherokee lore. Known as a harbinger of death, the Raven Mocker feeds on the sick and dying, stealing the remaining years of its victims’ lives. The single paints vivid imagery of the creature soaring over forests and villages, acting as both reaper and omen.

The single’s artwork mirrors this mythology: a raven perched on a branch beneath a rising moon, its eyes glowing with supernatural intensity as a flock circles overhead. The visual directly reflects the music video filmed in Angeles National Forest, captured by Darkslate Media.

“Kim and Andrew took the song’s visceral, lofty feel and turned it into visual art. It’s beautiful, eerie, and exactly what the track needed,” explains Tierney.

Compared to “Infallible,” the band describes the new single as “loftier, more epic, and meant to feel like gliding over mountains and trees while still hitting hard.”

Ravenmocker’s lineup brings together musicians from across the Southern California metal scene: vocalist and guitarist Tom Tierney (formerly Thrown Into Exile), guitarist George Patmas (ex‑Dianthus), drummer Dylan Suierveld (Levinia), and bassist Will Buckley (Levinia, Anubis).

Their combined influences, melodic death metal, blues, prog, jazz, funk, and even classic country, shape a sound that is intricate yet accessible, emotional yet aggressive.

“We want to write songs people can sing with us at shows. Melodies that stick with you. Emotion you can feel,” adds Tierney.

The band’s writing process is collaborative and evolving. While Tierney brought the foundation of the first EP, the new material is shaped by all members. “Where The Raven Flies” itself features a key change and expanded structure suggested by drummer Dylan, an example of the band’s open, exploratory approach.

Ravenmocker’s first single, “Infallible,” quickly gained traction online, with early clips surpassing 75,000 views and drawing praise for its melodic hooks and nostalgic energy reminiscent of early 2000s melodic death metal. Fans have responded to the band’s blend of modern production, emotional lyricism, and classic melodic sensibilities.

“We want to give the scene something familiar enough to feel nostalgic, but unique enough to be refreshing. There’s beauty in simplicity and melody, and we’re leaning into that,” adds Tierney.

With “Where The Raven Flies” marking the second release of 2026, Ravenmocker is preparing to introduce their full debut EP later this year. The band promises a wide emotional and musical range, from thrashy aggression to ballad‑like atmosphere, crafted to resonate with fans of melodic death metal’s golden era while carving out a new identity of their own.

“We’re just getting started. These songs were years in the making. Now we finally get to share them,” comments Tierney.

“Where The Raven Flies” can be heard along with its music video premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

“In this song (Infallible) Ravenmocker set the hook immediately with a vibrantly darting melody that will quickly remind listeners of Finnish melodic death metal greats, and every time that high-flying (and very catchy) melody line reappears it’s an electrifying experience. But so’s the rest of the song. It’s driven by hard-charging, head-hammering drums and nimble bass lines, and by riffing that both channels a feverish pulse (one that’s a variation on that opening melodic motif) and delivers slashing savagery. The vocals magnify the song’s ferocious intensity, venting the words in an intersection of cutthroat snarls and raging screams. This will get your blood pumping, and to repeat: it’s damned catchy too.” – No Clean Singing

EPK – Ravenmocker – Infallible (2026)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“Infallible was the song that really made me decide to put my full focus into Ravenmocker and leave a chunk of my life behind me that was harming me more than helping me. I think the guys heard the potential behind the song immediately, and that’s what we started working on first. I think the point in time where I was in life really helped me to go into this song and into the project headfirst. The song really helped us get into a good headspace with this sound and style, and a small clip of it on YouTube garnered over 80k views, so we really have a connection with this song. The intensity of the interest was validating and we felt like we were onto something. We can’t express our appreciation for everyone who heard it and felt compelled to even comment that they enjoyed it. We hope you’ll like the studio version even better!” – Tom Tierney – Guitar and Vocals – Ravenmocker

About The Single Artwork:

A figure stands in the ruins of destruction in the aftermath of a massive war – buildings and towers that once stood tall crumbled to dust as a city was reduced to its ground level. All that’s left standing is the statue of the Raven; wings spread wide and ready to fly in the midst of the ruin, symbolizing new opportunities, resilience, and hope for a new future.

About The Single:

– Infallible is the turning point of a man who’s been in the dark for long enough, always giving whatever he can to an entity that never gives back. He’s fed up with giving himself to this darkened space and chose to walk away from something that looks perfect from the outside but on the inside is just turmoil. The chorus is the statement that he’s longed to give, accepting that there’s always going to be strife now, but while the entity was just standing around watching life unfold, the man taught himself how to thrive and survive. Now it’s his time to take an adventure and walk away, make sure the past stays dead and gone, and is on to his own journey. Infallible has a very almost cheerful feeling while the lyrics are cold and rigid, expressing the duality of the brightness of a new sun and possibilities, while resentment, anger, and frustration are things that never just go away. It’s a very energetic song, highlighting the adrenaline and almost scary nature that comes over us when it’s time to make a big decision, but ultimately, knowing it’ll take us to where we have to go.

================================================

Stories and Fun Facts:

– Most of the band are avid gamers. Tom, Dylan, and Will all heavily enjoy video games and can be found unwinding with Diablo, God of War, Skyrim, Elden Ring, and Starcraft.

– When filming the video for Where the Raven Flies, the band and crew got stuck on the mountain after dark because of an unrelated accident on the way down. They were rerouted, and all got lost, and most of the band found themselves over 50 miles away from the freeway, and all got home over two hours later. All GPS, cell phone service, and communication were lost in the mountains, and there was a period of uncertainty where no one knew where they were or how to get home.

– When recording the first material, the band had started off with a selection of songs that were eventually pushed to be released down the road. The band wanted to showcase the more melodic material, and even though most of the music had been tracked and started to be mixed, a general consensus was that the music didn’t capture the vibe that the band wanted to bring to the table as a first impression. The songs were put on the back burner for release down the road, and an entirely new set of songs was decided on and tracked from the top.

– Most of the band derives its influences from very different sources. George is a huge country and jazz fusion listener, and has spent years on the saxophone playing jazz. He loves to listen to artists such as Karizma, Allan Holdsworth, and BlackHawk. Dylan is about as big a country fan as they come, and in addition to his blistering drums, enjoys artists such as Whelan Jennings, Kieth Whitley, Colter Wall, and Charlie Pride. Will loves some classic pop punk like Paramore, AFI, Taylor Acorn, and Honey Revenge. And Tom pulls some of his ambient writing and orchestration from classical choral music, but also EDM artists like Infected Mushroom, Tiesto, and Above and Beyond.

RAVENMOCKER Unleashes A Fierce First Step Into a New Era of Melodic Death Metal w/ Debut Single “Infallible”

Southern California’s newest force in melodic death metal, Ravenmocker, has released their debut single, “Infallible”, accompanied by a music video to mark the band’s official arrival and the first of several tracks set to drop throughout the year. Formed in 2025 by guitarist/vocalist Tom Tierney, the band emerges from a period of personal upheaval, creative rebirth, and a desire to carve out a culturally rooted identity inspired by Native American lore.

Joined by guitarist George Patmas (ex‑Dianthus), drummer Dylan Suierveld (Levinia), and bassist Will Buckley (Levinia, Anubis), the band quickly developed a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh. Their influences span Children of Bodom, Insomnium, Amon Amarth, Kalmah, and Dark Tranquillity, while each member brings unexpected flavors, country, jazz fusion, blues, funk, and classical choral music into the mix.

Ravenmocker’s writing process is collaborative, dynamic, and rooted in emotional honesty. While Tierney currently leads much of the songwriting, every member contributes ideas, arrangements, and refinements.

“We want to write good songs, not just content. These songs were years in the making. The melodies should stick with you. We want people singing with us at shows. We want to give fans something they can feel together,” adds Tierney.

The band’s first single, “Infallible,” represents the moment everything changed for Tierney, the song that pushed him to leave behind a project he’d been part of for five years and fully commit to forging Ravenmocker’s path.

“‘Infallible’ was the turning point. It came from a place in my life that was harming me more than helping me. The guys immediately heard the potential, and it became the first song we worked on. A small clip online hit over 75,000 views, and that connection really showed us this was the right direction. This song started it all,” explains Tierney.

“Infallible” tells the story of a man who has spent too long in darkness, giving everything to an entity that never gave anything back. The track captures the moment he finally walks away, choosing growth, clarity, and self‑determination over turmoil. Musically, the song is energetic and uplifting, while lyrically, it remains cold, rigid, and emotionally raw. This contrast reflects the duality of stepping into a new future while still carrying the weight of resentment, anger, and frustration.

The single artwork mirrors this theme: A lone figure stands in the ruins of a devastated city, surrounded by collapsed towers and shattered structures. Amid the destruction, a statue of a raven remains standing, wings spread, defiant, symbolizing resilience, rebirth, and the courage to rise from ruin.

“Where The Raven Flies is a song describing the life and actions of the Ravenmocker and gives the listeners a general insight into the lore and detail behind the cryptid and influence for the band name. The song has a much loftier and epic feel compared to Infallible, wanting to display the feel of gliding over mountains and trees while maintaining a fierce and sharp sound. The video that was shot by Darkslate Media takes sound into visual art as the shots and images captured by Kim and Andrew hold a tight hand with the song’s beautiful but visceral approach.” – Tom Tierney – Guitar and Vocals – Ravenmocker

About The Single Artwork:

A Raven sits on a tree branch in a forest with the moon rising behind it. Its eyes glow an odd color, revealing that this is the Raven Mocker in its cloaked form. A flock of ravens flies behind it in the sky over the forest – the entire scene is representative of the scene where the music video was shot by the band in Angeles National Forest.

About The Single:

Where The Raven Flies is a very anthemic single, telling the origins of The Raven Mocker. A crypid from the Adirondack mountains, the Raven Mocker is a being that feeds on the sick and the dying. If you see the Raven Mocker, you’ve already been given a death sentence. The Raven Mocker takes your heart from your chest without leaving marks or scars, and adds the time that its victim would have lived, to its own life. The song describes the Raven Mocker flying over forests and villages, seeking out the terminally ill and seeking its pray. Resembling a raven to the normal eye, the Raven Mocker stands over almost any human, grim and gaunt, looking more like a feathery dragon on its hind legs with a raven skull for a face. The song describes the creature as a sort of Reaper – as a setting sun on your life and a gust of wind at night that passes you from this life to the next.
