Nova Spei has a second single “Assez” coming out, complete with a new music video. This is following the first unveiled track “Qui Sème Le Vent”, which was well-received by fans and media. Having been out of the scene for many years, Nova Spei came together to fill the gap with their unique blend of groovy, djenty and progressive metal.

With each of the twelve songs on the album, Nova Spei tries to give the listener something to reflect on, basing their lyrics on common events that people experience throughout their lives. The songs are high-energy and ready for live performance as soon as it is possible to do so. They explain the single and the album in their own words:

“Assez denounces those who use a cause to embellish their images but who do not do what they advocate. The first album didn’t have the cohesion that this one has. For “Sequentis” we really work together, combine all our influences, and give our best to each part of the song.”

Nova Spei was started by Dany Soucy who is the main songwriter for the band, with Dany Duplessis doing the majority of lyric writing, they ultimately work together collaboratively with each member adding their own touch on the final product.

Those who are intrigued by this release won’t have to wait too long for a follow-up, as the band is already talking about the next album.

Accessible and thoughtful, Nova Spei caters to a wide assortment of listeners, especially fans of Gojira, Deftones, and Tesseract.

The music video for “Assez” can be watched and heard at https://youtu.be/K1gm_Z0KCB0

“Sequentis” is due out November 12, 2021 via Quebec label Bam&Co-Heavy. The album was written and produced by Nova Spei plus mixed and mastered by Anthony Chognard along with the album artwork done by Filip Ivanovic.

Nova Spei is a Francophone groove metal band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They are releasing their second album “Sequentis” this November via label Bam&Co-Heavy. The 12 track record comes in at just over 45 minutes of music spanning a wide range of metal influences.

The first single off the album “Qui Sème Le Vent” is already out and fans have been eating it up. The band expects the rest of the album will be devoured by fans of groovy, djent and progressive metal. The band explains the theme behind the song and what they are trying to accomplish with the album:

“We try to give listeners something to reflect on, lyrics that represent their day-to-day reality. We created this album as a more ‘’metal’’ album, with lots of energy and powerful riffs. The basis of the single is that some people despise others, they have no respect for their neighbors. But sooner or later the wind picks up and they reap what they sowed.”

Nova Spei got together to create something new in the local music scene as they had been missing the stage for quite some time. The current lineup consists of Dany Soucy (Rhythm Guitarist), Dany Duplessis (Vocals), Julien De Carufel (Drums), Nicolas Dumais (Bass/Back Vocal) and Stéphane Filion (Lead Guitarist).

“Sequentis” was written and produced by Nova Spei, it was mixed and mastered by Anthony Chognard and the album artwork was done by Filip Ivanovic.

“Qui Sème Le Vent” can be listened to right now on YouTube: https://youtu.be/F8o8o9QYv70

“Sequentis” comes out on November 12, 2021 via Quebec label Bam&Co-Heavy and is recommended for fans of Architects, Gojira and Deftones.

=============================

FUN FACTS:
1. The album was recorded in the band’s home studio in 12 days
2. Drums were recorded in France by Jordan Keifer
3. Album was supposed to be out in Autumn 2020. Because of Covid, 1 year delayed.
4. No matter you use a standard guitar bridge or an EverTune bridge, Keep your guitar in tune!! That’s the line we heard the most while recording.
5. “Nouvel Espoir” was lyrically written after a joke while touring in 2019 with Anonymus with DanDup acting like a Preacher telling us we were the church of the New Hope.

=============================

The album as a whole:
Lyrically the album describes Nova Spei’s vision of society, sometimes critical, but not pessimistic. They try to wake people and to be better. Musically, lots of good riffs, many guitar solos, punchy sounds, and groove beats. They try to make it easy listening, but keep it cool to play.

Track by track explained by the band.
1. Animal
“Animal” talks about pushing our limits, it is about surpassing oneself, motivation, strength and relentlessness to achieve our goals.
2. Assez
“Assez” denounces those who use a cause to embellish their images but who do not do what they advocate.
3. Génération perdu
We have fewer and fewer human relationships, hidden behind our screens, more and more individualistic.
4. La proie
“La proie” denounces and sensitizes in a clear and straightforward way violence against women.
5. Sorcière
“Sorcière” represents our vices, our weaknesses, the witch can also be an unhealthy relationship.
6. Digitalisés
The human being has become a perishable product. We take what we need and throw it away as soon as it is consumed, the human being becomes cold and digitized.
7. Mal incarné
It’s hard to express the pain, the despair. Often it stays with us and eats away at us from within. The song is about that feeling.
8. Damné
This one talks about resilience, to stay strong and upright despite hardships.
9. Nouvel Espoir
When we unite, we are stronger than anything. By coming together, looking out for one another, we can build a better world. This is “Nouvel Espoir”.
10. Tête Dure
We often say that we learn from our mistakes. But nobody ever learns, it’s “Tête Dure”.
11. Qui Sème le vent
Some people despise others, they have no respect for their neighbors. But sooner or later the wind picks up and they reap what they sowed.
12. Démocratie bafoué.
The feeling of being flouted by the system, regardless of the political party, it’s all the same.
