Montreal, QC – April 26, 2024

APE VERMIN Release Intergalactic Sludge Single “Awakened” Off Upcoming Album “Andromedas Colossus” and Tour Dates

Ape Vermin, the formidable 3-piece act hailing from the depths of Valdese, North Carolina, USA, is gearing up to conquer the cosmos with their latest sci-fi-infused album “Andromedas Colossus” on May 17, 2024, with a US tour to follow the release. Your journey into otherworldly realms begins with their new single “Awakened”, which guitarist/vocalist Brett Lee comments on:

“My personal favorite. We’re back, and we’re making up for lost time. Hell has come back to life. The Colossus is awake, prepare for your imminent obliteration. “Ten thousand years, through portals of time. Awaken this hell, Your world will be mine. Destroyed to extinction by hellish invention, made up for lost time, Hell has come back to life.”

In “Awakened”, sludge metal meets thrash in fine form. Double bass so crushing it could cause another world war. Guitar leads reminiscent of Dimebag Darrell and Kerry King in their prime and enough low-end to destroy planets.

Since its inception in 2017, Ape Vermin has pledged to push the limits of its craft, blending colossal riffs with amplifier worship and masterful percussion. “Andromedas Colossus”, promises to be a tour de force, featuring ten tracks of unique and exciting metal. Building upon the foundation laid by their acclaimed releases – the 2021 “Arctic Noise” EP and the 2018 “Sonic Monolith” LP; “Andromedas Colossus” sees Ape Vermin usher in a new chapter of their intergalactic saga; it is recommended for fans of High on Fire, Crowbar, and Mastodon.

HOG MEETS FROG Takes A Cheeky Look At Totalitarianism With New Video “ADOLF The Ant… or Am I Steve?”

Renowned for their eccentricity and boundary-pushing music, Hog Meets Frog is back with a provocative new single titled “ADOLF The Ant… or Am I Steve?”, out now on YouTube. The track showcases the band’s signature blend of weirdness, storytelling, and musical innovation, promising fans an unforgettable auditory experience.

The genesis of “ADOLF The Ant… or Am I Steve?” stems from the whimsical imaginations of the band members, blending elements of fantasy, satire, and social commentary. Inspired by the red imported fire ant and its destructive tendencies, the song paints a vivid picture of an inebriated ant named Adolf, indulging in fantasies of conquest and domination. The band comments:

“It’s a metaphor for the increasing number of politicians with autocratic tendencies in the world’s democracies. It is a current phenomenon that the so-called enlightened Western societies are flushing more and more totalitarian-minded people to the top of governments. At the moment, it seems as if more and more people are allowing themselves to be instrumentalized, turning them into little ants that just march along without thinking – unfortunately.”

“ADOLF The Ant… or Am I Steve?” follows up 2023’s “humANIMALization”, the third EP from Hog Meets Frog, who are influenced by a range of genres including progressive metal, death metal, funk, and world music, Hog Meets Frog is only defined by themselves, and is unexpectedly contagious. They are recommended for fans of Primus, Tool, and Mr. Bungle.

“The quirkily name Hog Meets Frog are an Australian funk prog metal trio who released their third EP, humANIMALization, in February, and from which the equally odd Of Snakes ‘n’ Moles ‘n’ Bulls ‘n’ Dough, is taken. We’re getting strong Primus vibes here, and the band also admit to a Tool influence.” – Prog (Great new prog music in our Tracks of The Week – April 28, 2023)

“If you are a fan of the jerky, spiky, awkward sounds of Primus you’ll love this. I daresay if you enjoy a bit of early Red Hot Chili Peppers you may also dig this – certain parts of the record do have a sneak peek toward Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention and The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown – not too obviously, but those sly, sideways little looks are there.” – Ever- Metal UK

“‘Does humor belong in music?’ was once a question that the late/great Frank Zappa asked – and Austrian funk-prog metallists apparently agree wholeheartedly, as evidenced within the video for their new tune, “Peeping-Bear’s Exegesis of Not Peeping,” – Bravewords

“Many hard rockers like when it is funky. Then this cool act must not be overlooked! This unit is a tight bunch of players and they have catchy tunes, for sure… Well worth checking out for fans of crazy funky hard rock.” – Melodic.net

“There’s an element of uniqueness to how each of these songs are written, although you can’t deny the clear influence of say the Primus bass lines or Zappa-esc experimentation, yet it is within the niche, thematic storytelling that gives Hog Meets Frog a real musical identity. The way they can tell a story with humour yet allow you to consider the real and often times scary true circumstances behind where these stories originate is what gives this band their staple. Certainly one to look out for in the future, long live Sqeekquackmusic!” – Metal Epidemic

“On their latest EP, this Austrian band presents offbeat funk-metal with semi-spoken vocals that tell absurd stories about weird characters. There are all sorts of slap-happy bass parts you could imagine Les Claypool coming up with, insanely busy and leading the band. That’s Peter Schwabl on the bass, and he handles the “storytelling” vocals as well… HumANIMALization is 23 minutes of big fun” – Exposé Online

“If I had to draw a comparison for this band… it’d be Primus, heavy catchy, quirky and big bass guitar. Great stuff!” – Mosh Pit Radio 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

“One of the most creative and interesting bands I’ve heard in some time comes in the form of Austria’s Hog Meets Frog. The trio is extremely talented and unique.” – Transcending The Mundane

“They’re from Austria. One of the greatest song titles (Peeping-Bear’s Exegesis of Not Peeping) I’ve ever heard. That’s all you’re getting. Press play and share the adventure” – Metallum Sub Terra

VORAATH’s Extreme Metal “The Barrens” Is A Whirlwind Of Emotions And Dystopian Exploration

Debut Album “Vol 1. The Hymn of the Hunters” Out June 2024 via Exitus Stratagem Records

Tour Dates w/ GORGATRON, CASKET ROBBERY + MICHIGAN METAL FEST

Voraath – L-R – Tylor Kohl – Guitar, Paul McBride – Bass, Joshua Ward – Drums, Keys, Vocals, Studio Guitars, Chelsea Marrow – Vocals, Daniel Presnell – Guitar

Voraath, sci-fi horror-inspired extreme metal hailing from the Carolinas, USA, is set to captivate metal enthusiasts with their latest video single “The Barrens” off their debut full-length album “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” slated for release on June 17, 2024, via Exitus Strategem Records, and brings forth a unique amalgamation of bone-crushing brutal riffs and epic soundscapes. The band comments on the first look at the album:

“This was our first song as a band, a song that encapsulated the brutal and melancholic nature of post-traumatic stress (PTSD). The video is a series of flashbacks from the point of view of two of the hunters. One is experiencing loss and betrayal; meanwhile being pursued by a savage otherworldly entity (which shows the layers of coping with one tragedy while fighting to simply exist). The other is the feeling of hopelessness that turns to hate and that hate consumes those around her.”

The music on “The Barrens” carries out like a metal movie soundtrack, with aggressive peaks and demented valleys, all culminating into the grand apex of the final segway, an epiphany of taking back control (live to fight another day). Voraath hopes this track brings awareness to the struggles and trauma faced by those coping with PTSD.

“The Barrens” is not just a single; it’s a glimpse into the vast metal multiverse that Voraath is meticulously crafting. The band’s ideology revolves around merging extreme metal with storytelling, transcending the boundaries of a traditional music act and transforming into a complex brand with a rich lore to explore alongside their music. They are recommended listening for those interested in Cattle Decapitation, Dimmu Borgir, and Acid Bath.

Quebec’s BACKSTABBER Announces Show Dates + Festival des Guitares du Monde w/ Blinded By Faith and Blackguard

New EP “Patterns of Domination” Out Now!

Mixed and Mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy)

Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec’s groovy Canadian death metal force Backstabber announces they will be hitting the road this summer for select show dates across their home province which includes a performance at Festival des Guitares du Monde with Blinded By Faith and Blackguard.

Show Dates:

July 13 – Gatineau, QC – Pub Le Notre Dame

Backstabber unleashed their latest EP “Patterns of Domination” this past March 2024, after a long silence. Originating as a solo project in 2012, founder Christian Thériault turned Backstabber into a full-fledged band in 2015, driven by a relentless thirst for angry metal and a need for vengeance. They take no prisoners with this new release that is inspired by James Redfield’s “The Celestine Prophecy”, which explores four patterns designed to consume someone’s attention and energy. Backstabber shares their thoughts on the album and what fans can expect from them:

“Each track digs into a specific pattern giving for a wide array of emotions throughout the EP. It can also be felt musically as each song has a very distinct style while the production makes a good wrap up keeping it as a whole. Our music being live-oriented from the start, it makes way for an energetic output. Our shows are well rounded up and fronted accordingly.”

The evolution of the band’s sound from their previous two releases underscores a departure from the solo origins, with Thériault making room for other members to express themselves more prominently. Thériault leads the charge on guitar and vocals, accompanied by Philippe B. St-Jacques on guitar, Eric Séguin on bass/back vocals, and Keven L.-Hull on drums. As the band’s evolution continues, “Patterns of Domination” marks a pivotal moment where the members’ contributions shine through, creating a distinct and cohesive musical expression.

The tracklist includes the bone-crushing “Harvesting The Weak”, the relentless “Langues Sales”, the haunting “Crawling Through Your Bones”, and the brutal “Snitches Get Stitches”. Backstabber‘s sound, ranging from old-school death metal riffs to slamming brutal death, promises an intense auditory experience and is recommended for fans of Kataklysm, Lamb of God, and Mors Principium Est.

Released on March 15, 2024, “Patterns of Domination” was produced by Backstabber vocalist/guitarist Christian M. Thériault and mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and can be heard at the following links:

“the entire EP is spectacular — a forward-rushing union of bone-smashing belligerence, vicious but technically impressive riffing, moving and jaw-dropping solos, monstrous and unhinged vocal rage, and melodic accents that give all the songs their own distinctive character.” – No Clean Singing

“Patterns of Domination is a relentless and catchy four-track EP. The musical style and lyrical content will appeal to fans of Hypocrisy.” – WRUV 90.1 FM – Burlington, VT

“From the beginning of the song (Snitches Get Stiches), you can hear the more technical side of the group. I would say it’s the fastest and most technical song in terms of guitars. It is also a piece in which there is orchestration. This is very present and brings a rather sordid dimension. What literally threw me off was the ending of the song. There is really crazy progress. A fast guitar riff, drumming that transitions from blastbeat to a more relaxed upper body beat with basedrums that are in “the carpet”. All with a beautiful orchestration which gradually takes over the instruments. Really, to finish an EP, it’s just perfect. 8.5/10″

“From sharp riffs, which are influenced by old school death metal, developed and mixed with contemporary. Blistering rhythms and the very good production ties and highlights the diversity and uniqueness of the compositions. It’s worth listening to and I’m sure you’ll stick around!” – Metal War

“A fat bridge between Death Metal and its modern siblings! 8/10” – PowerMetal.de

Canadian blackened death symphonic metal band Valfreya is proud to announce the release of their sixth album “Dawn of Reckoning” on May 24, 2024. To whet the palettes of those who enjoy epic and dark metal, now they are releasing a lyric video for the single “The Rise”. The concept album sees the band take their darkest turn as they lean into the blackened end of the metal spectrum and follow the goddess Hel as she wreaks havoc upon humanity. The band comments on the album:

“Dawn of Reckoning is a concept album. The main theme revolves around the anger of the goddess Hel which plays the metaphorical role of a fatal justice towards a guilty humanity. The songs convey this anger, but also a range of intense emotions related to the execution of humankind. Musically, you will hear dark symphonies, epic choirs, versatile vocals alongside tumultuous guitars and violin riffs.”

Known for their fervent performances and epic storytelling, Valfreya has been delighting fans since 2009 with their unique blend of metal genres. In “The Rise”, Hel is raising her army because humanity had enough warnings. Its denial is its obsolescence. It is its turn to be threatened and face extinction.

In conjunction with the single release, Valfreya is launching an Indiegogo campaign to fund the production of “Dawn of Reckoning”. Fans will have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of this monumental album and gain access to exclusive perks and rewards. Those with an interest in Septicflesh, Xaon, and Fleshgod Apocalypse, should take a listen.

Saudi Thrash Metal Maniacs DUNE Unveil Explosive Single “Refuge” From Debut EP “Years Of Chains” Out May 2024

Dune, the relentless force in the world of thrash metal, announces the release of their first lyric video for the single “Refuge” a relentless anthem from their debut EP “Years Of Chains”, which is being unleashed this coming May 2024. Dune, formed in 2004 at the pinnacle of the Saudi metal scene, has returned stronger than ever after a hiatus and is ready to metal faces with their high-speed riffs and visceral vocals. “Refuge” has been in the works for quite a long time as the band shares:

“In 2007 Refuge was a song that was recorded multiple times during the years but we were never satisfied with the result as we faced issues with quality or it didn’t sound as we hoped, our vocalist screamed in the recording so hard that his balls started hurting the next day, still we didn’t like the result and scrapped that whole thing.”

Now that it’s been perfected to the band’s standard, “Refuge” showcases Dune‘s commitment to delivering a breakneck experience for metal enthusiasts. With its groovy orientation, aggressive feel, and heavy riffs, the track is a testament to the band’s evolution and dedication to pushing musical boundaries.

“Refuge” hits hard with demonic verses and heavy self-expression. They are setting a high bar for metal in Saudi Arabia and beyond and will be enjoyed by a wide range of metal heads especially those who enjoy Testament, Slayer, and Pantera.
