Canadian Thrashers TRISKELYON New Music Video “Eternal Conflict” ft. Tiina Teal (Detente)

Third Album “Shattered Elysium” Out Sept 27th, 2024 via Moribund Records

Canadian thrash metal Gods Triskelyon will be delivering stainless steel fury on their highly anticipated third album, “Shattered Elysium” this coming September 27th from Moribund Records to follow “Artificial Insanity,” (2023) and “Downfall” (2022).

In the lead-up to its release, Triskelyon is sharing their latest music video “Eternal Conflict” featuring guest vocals from Tiina Teal of Detente.

“Eternal Conflict is about us, humanity, as we live in a violent world engulfed in perpetual war and conflict. It highlights the devastation and despair caused by continuous warfare, with imagery of crumbling cities, blood-soaked grounds, and lives destroyed. The relentless nature of the violence is a cycle that perpetuates itself without end.” says band founder and guitarist Geoff Waye.

Founded in 2021 by guitarist Geoff Waye of the acclaimed true metal band Category VI, Triskelyon is again back to enthralling the metal world with “Shattered Elysium”. With this lethal third strike, Triskelyon’s band leader Geoff Waye once again drafted some of the finest emissaries of the Canadian metal scene. Enlisting the vocal talents of guests Amanda Kiernan (Into Eternity, The Order of Chaos), Eric Forrest (E-Force, ex-VoiVod), Tiina Teal (Détente), Amanda Jackman (Category VI), Armin Kamal (Infrared), Dale Drew (Sea Dogs), Fíochmhar (Artach), Des Mason and Pete Healey, this album detonates as a pure and true thrash metal masterpiece. The record features a unique style along with refreshing variations of thrashing classics! Traditional, yet intricate, drum duties are exceptionally executed by Raul Marques (Burning Torment), while Dwayne Pike, Keith Jackman (Category VI), Rick White, and Darrin Pope are conscripted on bass.

“Shattered Elysium” runs the gamut from pure 80’s thrash and speed metal to classic power metal, and traditional heavy metal, and even includes some brutal death-thrash. It attains an impressive new milestone in classic thrash metal, with far-reaching appeal across all heavy metal sub-genres. “Shattered Elysium” truly resurrects the glory days of the 1980s, while maintaining a fresh and modern sound!

In keeping with Triskelyon‘s tradition of closing their albums with an iconic cover, this release delivers a thunderous metal rendition of Duran Duran’s mega-hit “Hungry Like the Wolf.”

“It’s refreshing, for once, to discover a thrash band that aren’t geared towards utter devastation but, rather, crafting a record that an audience can simply put on and vibe to. With more than forty-five minutes to work with, the band still stuck to their guns and applied songwriting that saw every minute feel earned and needed for what their performance entailed.” – The Razor’s Edge

“Waye has shown he can write in any metal style and the guys he got together to perform are world class. The production is pretty big too so, if you like Megadeth, Agent Steel, Exodus, Overkill, etc. then there will be something on here that you like. Me? I liked it all! Hopefully, Canadian metal will be taken a bit more seriously with this release.” – My Global Mind

“classical Thrash Metal tracks and many 80s vibes.” – Metal-Temple

“Heavy, pounding, in-your-face, power metal-laced thrash” – Metal Crypt

“A who’s who of musicians in the Canadian Thrash scene! Riffs and soloing are nothing short of fantastic!” – MetalNoise

“Powerful at the right point but also epic, with sharp and anthemic vocal parts” MetalHead.it

“Power-Thrash equipped with murderous riffs on a technically first-class level with changeable exciting vocal variability.” – FFM-Rock

“Minimal filler and maximum melody!” – Heavy Music HQ

Canada’s progressive metal outfit Maitreya is set to release unique instrumental trumpet renditions of their tracks “Traveler” and “Still Motion”. These innovative releases showcase the band’s commitment to complex compositions and genre-bending tendencies. The releases give a nod to the band’s influences in the jazz-fusion realm, offering fans a fresh perspective on their intricate songwriting. They comment on the tracks:

“We’ve always been interested in exploring the intersections between different musical styles. These trumpet versions allow us to showcase the melodic intricacies of our compositions in a completely new light. Sometimes as a band, we ask ourselves if we are a metal band that plays jazz, or a jazz band that plays metal. These reiterated versions, featuring trumpeter Paul Callander, are representative of the bridging of these two worlds.”

These two singles are the last teases before the new EP “Auxesis” EP drops on October 11th, 2024. It offers listeners a glimpse into Maitreya‘s evolving sound and their commitment to musical exploration.

Formed in 2016 in Whitby, Ontario, Maitreya has quickly established themselves as a force in the progressive metal scene. Their sophomore album “Hyper Reels” (2021) solidified their reputation for creating music that is both beautiful and devastating, exploring themes of metaphysical reality and artificial intelligence.

From intricate rhythms to powerful breakdowns, Maitreya is redefining what progressive metal is. They are recommended for fans of Twelve Foot Ninja, Leprous, and Thank You Scientist.

“Just relaxing and enjoying a catchy riff is not an option with Maitreya anyway. If you like complex song structures and styles that are woven together without compromise, Maitreya is the right place for you.” – Musika

“We’re always on the hunt for interesting new metal bands, and Canada’s Maitreya certainly qualifies. The band’s newest single, “Catalyst”, treads familiar progressive metal territory – think vocals similar to Leprous and instrumentation akin to older BTBAM – but rest assured it sounds fresh.” – New Fury Media

“Heavy metallers Maitreya recognize the value of dreams with their new single and music video for “Bloom,” a rifftastic blast of progressive metal.” – V13

“What’s on the menu here is a wide range of flavours. There’s something to suit the taste of any serious metal fan. This relatively new band has some good ideas and knows how to execute them. Despite the current restrictions, these guys have plenty of time to bring the Maitreya brand to the fore.” – The Prog Space

“What we have here with Hyper Reels is a fresh take on both progressive metal and metalcore in general. Ten high-powered and heavy efforts that go in a myriad of unexpected and thrilling directions. If there’s one thing Maitreya do well on Hyper Reels, it is to keep you guessing all the time.” Games, Brrraaains & A Headbanging Life

“Ambitious and aggressive, Canada’s Maitreya break boundaries from the beginning with Departed. Heavy, contemporary metal chords are underscored by droning, chorusing vocals, but blink and you’ll miss them as Maitreya soon change direction to a growling verse pandemonium. Their riffing is adventurous and deadly, cutting through weighty, rolling rhythms and movements.” – Jace Media

Out Now! HELEVORN Release Dark And Gloomy New Doom Metal Album “Espectres”

Mallorca, Spain’s renowned doom metal band Helevorn is now dropping their fifth studio album, “Espectres” which promises to deliver a gloomy, gothic, and doomy metal listening experience. Following significant line-up changes over the past three years, Helevorn has emerged stronger and more creative than ever. The band enlisted the talents of Sebastià Barceló (Trallery) for drum recordings, adding a new dynamic to their sound. This album represents a slight departure from Helevorn‘s previous work, with new guitarist Alex composing 60% of the material. Fans can expect the familiar atmospheric and emotional depth Helevorn is known for, but with a rawer, more technical edge. The band shares the details behind the album:

“This album is based on Hauntology, described first by Jaques Derrida and after by the philosopher Mark Fisher. He wrote “The Ghosts of My Life”, an amazing book where he describes the ‘slow cancellation of future’, and a lot of great concepts about the specters and the absences. How they make us what we really are. Is a fantastic concept to write a Doom Metal album isn’t it?”

While still rooted in their self-coined “Mediterranean Doom” style, this album leans more heavily into pure doom and metal elements. The band promises a less epic, less folk-influenced sound, focusing instead on the core essence of doom metal. Helevorn thinks it can be an intense experience for those who want to connect something very emotional and very philosophic with dark and gloomy music.

Helevorn will be embarking on an extensive live tour, after the release of the album. Those with an interest in Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, and Draconian, will appreciate the art that they are creating.

Due out on September 13, 2024, from Meuse Music Records, “Espectres” is available for album order (Vinyl/CD) at http://www.helevorn.com/shop | Helevornofficial.bandcamp.com

Track Listing:
1. Inherit the Stars (6:36)
2. The Defiant God (5:07)
3. Signals (4:47)
4. When Nothing Shudders (5:49)
5. Unbreakable Silence (7:15)
6. L’Endemà (5:37)
7. The Lost Futures (5:46)
8. Children of the Sunrise (4:40)

More info: https://www.helevorn.com | https://www.facebook.com/helevornband | https://www.instagram.com/helevornband

“Espectres is an album of the utmost quality that delivers a punch of moodiness, melancholy and emotion while managing to still be pretty damn heavy. It’s an album that deserves to be heard and once you listen to it, it’s going to be hard to stop repeating it over and over again.10/10” – Games, Brrraaains & Head-Banging-Life

“What it does is push the boundaries of the genre with subtle experimentation, emotive songwriting, and a deep understanding of the human condition. Helevorn has crafted an album that is both introspective and outwardly forceful, making it a vital listen for any fan of doom in 2024.” – Sentinel Daily

0 Streaming Now! Manuel Barbará Releases Blade Runner Themed Metal EP “Whisper in a Storm”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 12, 2024

Streaming Now! Manuel Barbará Releases Blade Runner Themed Metal EP “Whisper in a Storm”

New EP “Whisper in a Storm” Out Sept 13th, 2024

Metal guitarist and composer Manuel Barbará is proud to announce the release of his new EP “Whisper in a Storm”. The EP combines the aggression and technical mastery of heavy metal with the formal and harmonic concepts learned from the great composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Barbará shares what listeners can expect:

“‘Whisper in a Storm’ had a very “cyberspace and neon” sort of feel to it, which helped steer our decision to make it about Blade Runner. It’s mainly djent and prog, but I’m finding small touches of death metal creeping into my ideas the longer I play in Necro. It features four very distinct songs, each featuring one of my favorite musicians, that all live in the same sonic world. I hope the listeners like it as much as I do.”

The EP boasts an impressive lineup of guest musicians, including violinist Jody Miller, guitarist Jake Howsam Lowe of Plini and The Helix Nebula, Michael Nystrom Bala of Necronomicon Ex Mortis, vocalist Thalia Tymowski of Among the Stars, and guitarist Millisa Henderson. These collaborations add depth and variety to Barbará‘s already rich sonic palette.

Barbará’s compositions aim to unify the spheres of metal and classical music, creating carefully constructed pieces full of ambiance and color. This EP is designed to be a strange, adventurous, expertly crafted punch to the face with just enough spacey ambiance to make it punch even harder and just enough big synths to make it feel like you might be stabbed with a katana under a neon sign. It is recommended for fans of Periphery, Meshuggah, and Keith Merrow.

Listen to the full stream premiere of “Whisper in a Storm” via TheProgSpace HERE.

Due out September 13, 2024, “Whisper in a Storm” is available for digital pre-save at https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/manuelbarbar/whisper-in-a-storm

“Berklee trained and steeped in metal music, composing, and shredding, the EP (Whisper in a Storm) is going to unite die-hard metal fans and guitar geeks alike.” – Ghost Cult Magazine

“With its rhythmic elements and heavy riffs, Manuel Barbará’s debut album is in the purity of modern instrumental progressive metal. But his influences from classical composers add an interesting extra touch.”- Music Waves (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“a spectacular showcase of the progressive qualities of Manuel Barbará.” – Games, Brains and A Headbanging Life (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“This is an astounding first record. Especially for a single composer. If you are a fan of atmospheric instrumental metal, give it a shot. I give the album a solid 8/10. Manuel is already looking forward to the future with new compositions which are even more refined and elaborate. I’m looking forward to it with great anticipation.” – Belgian Metal Shredder (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“I really enjoyed my time with this album. I’m a big fan of djenty riffs, dissonant tones and atmosphere which this album provided aplenty. The record shows that Manuel is a master craftsman in composition. The album clocks in at about 35 minutes. In this case that’s a plus. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and makes the tracks stand out more. The album is instrumental, which could be a turnoff for some people. But to me it benefits from it. It’s more of a listening album than an all-out headbang/rocking out record.” – Belgian Metal Shredder (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“without a doubt that we have a talented musician and composer in front of us. The approach is in large parts of the material progressive metal with the corresponding hardness and complexity… You can’t deny the band’s instrumental quality…” – Metal-Heads.de (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“Manuel Barbará shines bright on Moonrise… this is a fascinating listen and it is easy to appreciate Manuel’s complex musical narrative… this deserves a listen as it does embody the prog metal ideal and as such, it’s a damn good album: think Tesseract or Periphery.” – RAMzine (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“Barbará has rejuvenated the instrumental metal genre, boldly handling what is often perceived as a deficit of vocals and composing with refinement and a brilliantly malicious sense of melody and groove.” – Jace Media (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“It’s unbelievable that Moonrise is the debut of a musical high-flyer. Manuel Barbará releases an unbelievably mature masterpiece, which not only pays homage to its role models Dream Theater, Keith Merrow, or Periphery, but also presents crisp, progressive Djent Metal at eye level, which despite its perfection and precision still offers room for improvement. My recommendation with 8.5 / 10” – Soundmagnet (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“Inviting the listener in with some mystical soundscapes, the tempo and mood change immediately when the trio start firing on all cylinders with a dent-driven, pushing rhythmic sound alongside Manuel’s epic and virtuosic guitar work. The overall sound is dark and mighty, but every now and then gets brightened by some gleaming tones. The use of electronic sounds add a modern vibe as well and he skillfully alternates between full-power, highly technical, and calmer, atmospheric parts, before taking us to the gigantic ending riff.” – Tuonela Magazine (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

Streaming Now! Groovy Death INSURRECTION Presents New Album “Obsolescence”

With over 20 years of annihilating fans across Canada and beyond, Gatineau, QC groovy and heavy-hitting death metal outfit INSURRECTION returns with their latest album “Obsolescence” on label Bam & Co. Heavy. Their first full-length in seven years, this fifth studio album represents a culmination of everything they’ve worked on over 2 decades, with both familiar (original) faces, as well as fresh blood in the lineup. Their music often addresses social and political themes through bilingual lyrics in both English and French.

Throughout their existence, INSURRECTION has gained a notable reputation on stage throughout Canada with tours covering coast to coast, including performances at festivals such as Montebello Rockfest, Trois-Rivières Metalfest, and Decimate Metalfest along with sharing the stage with bands like Cannibal Corpse and the Black Dahlia Murder.

The concept of “Obsolescence” is reflected throughout the album, and the band took things a step further by ending the record with a 3-song trilogy called The New Uprising. The trilogy which includes sub-themes of demagogy and elitism, as well as reflections on the death penalty, tells the cryptic story of a robotic uprising that is actually a metaphor for the rise of political extremism in the world.

One easter egg that long-time INSURRECTION fans may notice is that, like many of their other albums, The Obsolescence starts with the final notes from their previous 2017 album, “Extraction”.

The band comments on “Obsolescence”:

“We think people are going to really enjoy the mix of the sound they’ve come to know and love alongside some new ingredients. ‘Obsolescence’ brings together both people who have been in the band for 20+ years, and people who have only recently joined. It gives the music both a familiar and a fresh sound that we’re really excited to share. Some songs are going to be immediate fan-favourites, and others we think are really going to grow on people. Ultimately, we want people to have fun. The band is sort of like an onion, in that there’s something immediate there that’s fun, catchy, and of course, heavy. But for people who want to keep peeling the layers back, they’ll find some unexpected harmonies, some lyrics with a deeper meaning to them. Admittedly a lot of people may also need to learn a second language (French or English) to actually understand all the lyrics. Ultimately, there’s something there for everyone. If you want to just rock out and have fun, you’ll enjoy our music. And if you want something that goes a bit deeper, you’ll also find that. “

Before “Obsolescence” is officially released by Bam & Co. Heavy on September 13th, the full album stream can be heard via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

Recommended for fans of Misery Index, Testament, and Nevermore, “Obsolescence” will be available at the following links:

“This new single (Bless the Machine) goes flat-out right from the start, launched by an extended, serrated-edge scream, rapidly thrusting grooves, and a blizzard of mechanistic yet maniacal riffing. Intestinally deep gutturals proclaim their murderous prayer as the music occasionally seems to dismally moan and wail. The drums methodically chop, but while razor-sharp in their execution they also prove to be just as berserk as the fleet-fingered contortions of the fretwork. And yes, the song includes a head-spinning guitar solo that does sound like a refugee from Castlevania. It’s a hell of a wild, adrenaline-fueled gallop, further fueled by doubled voices screaming, but the song also frequently does sound like malicious machines ecstatically stitching steel through blasted flesh and broken bones — and like the piteous agonies of their victims.” – NoCleanSinging

“From the slow, chugging intro to the fast, thrashy chorus, this is pure, unadulterated death metal with plenty of doomy and thrashy elements to keep people on their toes. The band have been at it for 20 years, and this song (The Gathering) is proof that they aren’t slowing down any time soon.” – Decibel Magazine

“the group continues its metallic death proposition and this fifth album (Obsolescence) is intended to be as refreshing as an autumn swim in the Ottawa River. In other words, it keeps you alive and wakes you up.” – Ars Media QC

“Insurrection de Gatineau pulls no punches with Obsolescence which will be released in mid-September. After listening to their two extracts, Bless The Machine and The Gathering, clearly it’s going to be the bomb!” – Thorium Magazine

“Insurrection play a groovy type of death metal that’s equal parts Dying Fetus, Decapitated and Lamb of God.” – Metal Sucks

“Head-banging, crushing riffs are the name of the game” – Exclaim!

“It’s immensely obliterating, but the grooves are especially titanic” -No Clean Singing

“Insurrection are masters of dishing out an aural onslaught” – Games, Brains and a Headbanging life

“faultless technically brutal yet catchy and melodic, death metal, infused with some wonderful thrash moments” – Moshville Times UK

“Insurrection hammer you with a full on assault of thumping drums, gnarly riffs and even gnarlier, sometimes bestial, growling vocals.” – Rock n Load Mag

NightWraith, the progressive melodic death metal band from Denver, USA presents their latest and new offering “Divergence”. An album featuring eight original tracks and a cover version of Pink Floyd’s “Us and Them”, the full-length has a lot of depth to it and is not a traditional metal record.

Vocalist guitarist Benjamin Explains further:

“We hope people can appreciate the risks we took on this record. We wanted to really kick it up a notch for anyone who already knows our music since they might be expecting that from us. We also don’t want to turn off any potential new listeners, so it was kind of a fine line between what current fans expect from us, and what brand-new listeners are willing to keep an open mind for. There’s really something for everyone on this album, whether it’s 80’s style guitar riffs, blast beats, electric piano, or guttural vocals.”

“Divergence” takes listeners on a sonic journey. There are many layers to it and the band’s idea was for people to hear something new with each listen. The album is intended to lift you up with major melodies, evoke emotion with harmonic minors, and harken overall feelings of nostalgia and hope. ‘Divergence’ often utilizes classic songwriting structures (verse/chorus/bridge/lead). Each instrument is not overly complicated, but when layered on top of each other, the music has a lot of depth. The drums are fast with lots of big rock fills and the choice to use fast double bass and blast beats was meant to give the album a driving, more ‘classic’ metal sound. The keyboards/synthesizer tones are the icing on the cake and are what truly color the album in a nostalgic-sounding way. The melodies that were written to lay on top of the guitars are what give the songs the musical complexity that can be rare within the heavy metal genre. There are also a lot of solos on this album, but none of them are overly ‘shreddy’ and are meant to serve the song, not the player.

The band also stepped up the production on this album by recruiting some talented guest musicians to contribute and added extra rhythmic layers using acoustic guitar and percussive instruments like cowbells and shakers. Then stepped up the production again by involving producer Zack Ohren (Machine Head, Immolation) to mix and master the record, which gave it a top-shelf-sounding production quality.

“Striking a delicate balance between the baroque stylings of a band like Dimmu Borgir and the more grandiose melodies of Inexorum, Denver’s NightWraith brilliantly capture the majesty of black metal on new single Perpetual Night. Drawing lyrical inspiration from 1927 sci-fi movie Metropolis – clips of which pop up in the music video – the track is a showcase of bald ambition and songwriting craft, playing up to the underground’s most aspirational aspects, hinting at bigger things to come on new album Divergence, out September 13.” – Metal Hammer (Perpetual Night off album Divergence 2024)

“As you’ll quickly discover, in its opening phase it (Whispers of Dragonflies) presents an unusual amalgam of futuristic swirling keyboards and full-throttle blackened ferocity replete with raking chords, hammering drums, and scalding vocals. But it does begin changing, like a musical chameleon. Those changes include a beautifully ringing guitar melody backed by shimmering synths, musing bass tones, and gripping drum fills, and fronted by somber and melancholy singing with a bit of grit in the gears. That phase is a sublime experience, made even more sublime by a guitar solo that sounds like a beguiling prog-rock throwback. The intensity builds again, but without sacrificing the music’s increasingly head-spinning beauty, and that paves the way for the afore-mentioned concert-flute solo, which is flat-out mesmerizing. As also mentioned, the song then loops back to its beginning — hammering, slashing, scalding, and swirling once more, fierce but also glorious. The song is presented with a beautifully filmed video of the band performing the music. Enjoy!” – NoCleanSinging (Whispers of Dragonflies off album Divergence 2024)

“One thing that has done better than nearly all of their musical peers was throwing convention out the window and running it over a few times with their truck. This album stands out as one of the most unusual I’ve ever heard. It masterfully blends the raw intensity of fierce Black Metal with the soothing presence of smooth keyboards and intricate guitar harmonies. The contrast between the harsh vocals and the melodic, atmospheric layers creates a unique listening experience that feels both powerful and unexpectedly harmonious, pushing the boundaries of what music can offer. 10/10” – Metal Temple – Album – Divergence 2024)

“The tracks from the band’s upcoming album, Divergence, which What’s Left Records is releasing on September 13, are a mix of blackened death metal and prog. Caleb Jose Tardio’s (keyboards and synthesizer), Igor Panasewicz (guitar), Isidro “Spy” Soto (drums), Jacob St. Amand (bass) and Benjamin Pitts (vocals and guitar) have been at it since 2016 and call what they do “blackened dad rock.” But NightWraith isn’t your father’s metal.” – Denver’s Westword (Album – Divergence 2024)

CHAIN CODE Challenge Technology In Sci-Fi Heavy, Proggy Single “In Line”

Debut Album “Synthetic Outcomes” Out Oct 1st, 2024

Hailing from Milwaukee, USA, but spiritually rooted in another galaxy, Chain Code merges progressive rock with science fiction themes to bring listeners complex and challenging music alongside intelligent and thoughtful lyrics. Following the successful launch of their first single “A New Face”, they are back with their second single “In Line”, out now, ahead of the release of their debut album “Synthetic Outcomes”, set to drop on October 1st. The man behind the music, MuRphry comments on the track:

“‘In Line’ was heavily influenced by the Marvel character Ultron, an AI machine that both wants humanity and to destroy humanity. This song sees the character ruminating on the flaws of humanity and how he is essentially in line to surpass humans. He is waiting patiently, collecting data, observing, and finally striking out. It begins and ends with a Black Hole Sun(Soundgarden) style oddball heavy and slow, yet beautiful and melodic, riff.”

Unlike the franticness of the first single “A New Face”, “In Line” showcases MuRphry’s ability to juxtapose dissonance and chaos with beauty and catchiness. Despite its heavy themes, laid out over eight minutes, “In Line” also showcases the more melodic side of Chain Code’s sound, offering a beautiful yet unsettling listening experience that perfectly complements the album’s overarching narrative.

Fans of progressive rock will find themselves drawn to this complex and intricate music, and those with an interest in King Crimson, Voivod, and Dead Kennedys should especially take note.

Listen to “In Line” via its premiere on Ghost Cult Magazine HERE.

0 Canada’s Progressive Rock FEN Returns With New Album “Dear Mouse”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 12, 2024

Canada’s Progressive Rock FEN Returns With New Album “Dear Mouse”

After a twelve-year hiatus, progressive rock band FEN is set to release their sixth studio album, “Dear Mouse”, on September 12, 2024. Emerging from the mountain shadows of Nelson, Canada in 1998, FEN has consistently impressed critics and fans alike with their unique blend of technical proficiency and purposeful songwriting. The band comments:

“‘Dear Mouse’ is less a comeback album than a tying up of loose ends. The ten songs were all started in 2014 or earlier. They sat as fragments for a long time, but as life pulled the band apart, we couldn’t ignore these unfinished gems—or so we thought of them. We chipped away at them on and off. They dragged us along almost painfully at times. For the final three years, we pushed as hard as our lives would allow. Ultimately, Dear Mouse was a test of our perseverance and of getting out what needed to be said. We can rest now. And we will. We hope you find something in the music to appreciate.”

“Dear Mouse” marks a significant milestone for the band, breaking their decade-long silence. The album stands at a crossroads of genres, incorporating elements from throughout FEN‘s discography. Fans can expect a diverse listening experience, with tracks ranging from the multi-movement composition “Seam of the Heart”, which echoes the eerie concept of their earlier work “Heron Leg”, to the infectiously melodic “Ritual Lite”, competing for the title of poppiest tune in their repertoire.

The album’s guitar work is a particular highlight, seamlessly transitioning from jagged riffs to ethereal textures, offering a comprehensive summary of the band’s decades-long refinement of their craft. Lyrically, many of the songs on “Dear Mouse” explore themes of endings, touching on subjects such as the conclusion of long-term relationships, employment, and even one’s physical home. Despite these potentially heavy themes, the band aims to provide an overall uplifting and energetic listening experience, with a couple of slower tracks for balance. It is recommended for fans of Tool, Porcupine Tree, and Opeth.

NARCOTIC WASTELAND’s New Music Video “Barbarian” Encourages You To Break The Chains! Live! Be Free! And Find Your Own Path!

+ Tour Dates w/ Pyrexia + SwarmFest (Tampa, FL)

Narcotic Wasteland, fronted by ex-Nile guitarist/vocalist Dallas Toler-Wade along with drummer Joseph Howard (Fields of Elysium), Neuromorphic) and bassist Kenji Tsunami (Ontogeny), the trio unveil their new music video for the single “Barbarian” that they shared this past summer before their 2024 Summer tour dates that were in honor of Wade’s 50th birthday and the 10th anniversary of Narcotic Wasteland‘s self-titled debut album.

Directed by Narcotic Wasteland bassist Kenji Tsunami (Tsunami Films), the video showcases the sheer death thrash force of the band in the studio and live!

Dallas Toler-Wade comments on the track:

“For me, Barbarian is a prime example of me doing the thing I love and that defines me the most. Continuously striving to improve my craft as a musician and a songwriter. But also the overall message of this song. Live!!! Be free!!! Find your own path!!! Question everything!!! And also we don’t need politicians or religion to shape our moral centers. In fact, It seems they distort the truth every chance they get. This whole album cycle has seemed to have this recurring theme about the narcissistic oligarchy that we have all fallen victim to. I Dallas Toler- Wade the barbarian will fight this mockery until I leave the land of the living, and even after that, my powerful voice will echo through the halls of time!!! Because I am a barbarian!!!”

“”Narcotic Wasteland dropped a caustic, pissed off new single titled “Barbarian” off their forthcoming album Digital Cordyceps. Though we don’t know too much about said album, Toler-Wade explained that the new track was essentially one big middle finger to the ruling class.” – Metal Sucks

“We’ve got the latest and greatest from drug-themed death dealers Narcotic Wasteland, the new video for “Victims of the Algorithm.” The song takes on lightning-fast and heavy riffs, in the tradition of the band, and the lyrics tackle our dependence on social media in the modern age.” – Decibel Magazine

“Narcotic Wasteland have hit us with another dark, campy gem in the form of “Sex, Lies & DNA.” The thrashy, aggressive new single is the latest from the band led by Dallas Toler-Wade of Nile fame. This track features guest vocals from Andrea_N_Black and takes on the beloved death metal fodder of true crime.” – Decibel Magazine

“Narcotic Wasteland showcases Toler-Wade’s penchant for writing killer riffs, which he did for a decade as a member of Nile, in a manner that’s reminiscent of early 1990s metal — when the lines between the “thrash” and “death” tags weren’t as rigidly defined, and everything just sounded fast and heavy as all hell.” – Denver Westword (NW Headlines Denver DeathFest 2023)

“Delirium Tremens is just pummeling, non-stop death metal that covers a ton of ground.” – Metal Injection

“More often than not, death metal bands have a tendency to stick to the familiar topics. Death, gore, killing – that sort of thing. There’s always exceptions, or bands that have a different take on the subject, but as they say, dark music demands dark themes. Narcotic Wasteland does, for one of its lyrical slants, face a slightly different (yet still suiting) take – that of addiction. Plenty of grim to still go around with such a concept, and Narcotic Wasteland hits just as hard sonically as any other death metal act to come through the pipeline.” – Dead Rhetoric

“another incredible death metal album that has the potential to end itself up on the year end top album lists.” – Metal Nexus (2017 – Delirium Tremens)

“On the track, Toler-Wade furiously rails against “expectations,” “silly rules,” and “fucking filters,” and victoriously celebrates being “totally free” with a repeated battle cry of “Let the music flow!” In case there was still any remaining doubt as to the meaning of the song, the track is as magnificently brutal an old school death metal song as you’re likely to hear this season. It gallops, it lacerates, it uses the listener’s skull as a battering ram. There can be no doubt that this truly is Toler-Wade, undiluted and free of limitations. We hope he lets this music flow for a long time to come.” – Metal Sucks (single Return to the Underground off 2017 album Delirium Tremens)

“Narcotic Wasteland have released a fantastic album in ‘Delirium Tremens’. It is not easy to thrust the listener consistently into an aural landscape orchestrated by the band and make them stay put for the entire length of the album. Narcotic Wasteland does it brilliantly as they take you through the nightmarish journey of Delirium Tremens.” – Metal Wani (2017 – Delirium Tremens)
