0 Finnish Horror Squad AS I MAY Release New Scary Single “Never Stop Dreaming” Influenced by Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 4, 2024

Finnish Horror Squad AS I MAY Release New Scary Single “Never Stop Dreaming” Influenced by Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series

The Finnish horror squad AS I MAY is back with a killer new single “Never Stop Dreaming”. The song is inspired by the Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series and combines modern low riffs with a little taste of deathcore synths to bring horror chills and atmosphere to haunt your listening experience. If 80- horror movies, down-tuned riffs, and big choruses are something that you’re looking for, this is for you.

The band comments on the track:

“We all are big fans of Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Those were the first real horror movies when we were kids. I think maybe a couple of us were too young to watch those movies and also got nightmares from them, so Freddy has stayed with us all this time.”

“Never Stop Dreaming” was mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek (Sawdust Recordings).

Listen to “Never Stop Dreaming” at the following links:

Spotify – https://spoti.fi/4euumEP

In additional news, As I May had a line change-up in early 2024 when Jani Valhola stepped out from the ranks and was replaced with Jere Koponen.

Lasse comments on Jani’s departure:

“Yeah, it’s sad to do any lineup changes. I have played with Jani for over 2 decades in different bands. Jani has been building his own mixing business for many years and it has got really strong ground now and he has tons of work with it. We have toured in 14 countries and played in many great venues, festivals, etc. together. So he has seen a lot. He has been struggling to find time for all of this. So it’s natural to keep following your dreams and build a bigger business. It’s really hard to try too many things well at the same time. We are all really going to miss him and wish him the best of luck in the future. He says thanks to all of the fans that came to see us live and listened to our music”

Formed in 2016 in Mikkeli, Finland, As I May‘s music is all about combining metal/death-core and vibes from horror movies to create a soundscape they dub HorrorCore. The band is known for big melodies, huge choruses, and hard-hitting riffs. As I May is one of the front-running acts in the new wave of Finnish metal bands being exported. Touring all over Europe, they have made a name for themselves along with over a million streams for their albums ‘Karu’ (2022) (Uprising Records) and ‘My Own Creations’ (2019) (Rock Shots Records, Spiritual Beast “Japan”).

AS I MAY is:
Lasse Hiltunen – vocals, guitars
Jere Koponen – vocals, guitars
Tipi Nokelainen – vocals, bass
Leevi Räsänen – drums

As fans of the famously funny Honest Trailers series (made by the Screen Junkies YouTube channel), Canadian groovy and heavy-hitting death metal outfit INSURRECTION have created their own “honest trailer” for their latest music video “The Gathering” unleashed this past September in support of their new album “Obsolescence” released label Bam & Co. Heavy. The trailer showcases that in addition to delivering heavy riffs and bashing drums to fans, the band is also more than capable of delivering a few laughs, even if it’s at their own expense.

Vocalist Stef Jomphe comments:

“We had a ton of fun shooting the video for “The Gathering” and couldn’t just waste the 3+ hours we had on tape. We’re all fans of YouTube series like “[band] shreds” and, of course, “Honest Trailers” so it just made sense to put this together. Plus Mart’s voice was made for this job.”

Watch the Honest Trailer for Insurrection’s “The Gathering” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qo2m9GBKHZs

The original music video that the trailer is based on can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OloWe37IY04

“Obsolescence” is the band’s first full-length in seven years, and is the fifth studio album that represents a culmination of everything they’ve worked on over the last twenty years, with both familiar (original) faces, as well as fresh blood in the lineup. The music addresses social and political themes through bilingual lyrics in both English and French.

Throughout their existence, INSURRECTION has gained a notable reputation on stage throughout Canada with tours covering coast to coast, including performances at festivals such as Montebello Rockfest, Trois-Rivières Metalfest, and Decimate Metalfest along with sharing the stage with bands like Cannibal Corpse and the Black Dahlia Murder.

The concept of “Obsolescence” is reflected throughout the album, and the band took things a step further by ending the record with a 3-song trilogy called The New Uprising. The trilogy which includes sub-themes of demagogy and elitism, as well as reflections on the death penalty, tells the cryptic story of a robotic uprising that is actually a metaphor for the rise of political extremism in the world.

One easter egg that long-time INSURRECTION fans may notice is that, like many of their other albums, The Obsolescence starts with the final notes from their previous 2017 album, “Extraction”.

The band comments on “Obsolescence”:

“We think people are going to really enjoy the mix of the sound they’ve come to know and love alongside some new ingredients. ‘Obsolescence’ brings together both people who have been in the band for 20+ years, and people who have only recently joined. It gives the music both a familiar and a fresh sound that we’re really excited to share. Some songs are going to be immediate fan-favourites, and others we think are really going to grow on people. Ultimately, we want people to have fun. The band is sort of like an onion, in that there’s something immediate there that’s fun, catchy, and of course, heavy. But for people who want to keep peeling the layers back, they’ll find some unexpected harmonies, some lyrics with a deeper meaning to them. Admittedly a lot of people may also need to learn a second language (French or English) to actually understand all the lyrics. Ultimately, there’s something there for everyone. If you want to just rock out and have fun, you’ll enjoy our music. And if you want something that goes a bit deeper, you’ll also find that.”

Recommended for fans of Misery Index, Testament, and Nevermore, “Obsolescence” was released on September 13th from Bam & Co. Heavy and is available at the following links:

“From the slow, chugging intro to the fast, thrashy chorus, this is pure, unadulterated death metal with plenty of doomy and thrashy elements to keep people on their toes. The band have been at it for 20 years, and this song (The Gathering) is proof that they aren’t slowing down any time soon.” – Decibel Magazine

“This new single (Bless the Machine) goes flat-out right from the start, launched by an extended, serrated-edge scream, rapidly thrusting grooves, and a blizzard of mechanistic yet maniacal riffing. Intestinally deep gutturals proclaim their murderous prayer as the music occasionally seems to dismally moan and wail. The drums methodically chop, but while razor-sharp in their execution they also prove to be just as berserk as the fleet-fingered contortions of the fretwork. And yes, the song includes a head-spinning guitar solo that does sound like a refugee from Castlevania. It’s a hell of a wild, adrenaline-fueled gallop, further fueled by doubled voices screaming, but the song also frequently does sound like malicious machines ecstatically stitching steel through blasted flesh and broken bones — and like the piteous agonies of their victims.” – NoCleanSinging

“the group continues its metallic death proposition and this fifth album (Obsolescence) is intended to be as refreshing as an autumn swim in the Ottawa River. In other words, it keeps you alive and wakes you up.” – Ars Media QC

“Seven years have passed since their album Extraction. Be warned: it’s not in vain. A real punch in the throat! Brutality wall to wall. Despite the pandemic, the guys from Insurrection haven’t taken a break…. Obsolescence leaves you wanting more. For fans, you’ll be well served. For those who didn’t know them, now is a great time to discover them. 8.8/10” – Metal Universe

“Insurrection de Gatineau pulls no punches with Obsolescence which will be released in mid-September. After listening to their two extracts, Bless The Machine and The Gathering, clearly it’s going to be the bomb!” – Thorium Magazine

“Insurrection have easily out-done themselves with Obsolescence. This is, without doubt, world-class, groove-heavy death metal that can go toe to fucking toe with any band in the sub-genre. The production and mix is second to none, perfectly capturing the unique intensity of the songs.” – All Father Metal

“Another fine little slab of death metal from Canada’s Insurrection… Obsolescence is quite varied, first by having songs sung in English and French, but above all their death metal goes anywhere from crunchy death/thrash to melodic death metal to Swedish-style old-school death metal, and hell, some of the USDM school as well while they’re at it. So, they’re kind of all over the place but the album is cohesive, and this little musical rollercoaster stays on the tracks the whole time. The melodic passages are especially catchy, and so are the growls (mostly decipherable) with the vocal lines and some of the lyrics sticking around once it’s all over. Well done. 4/5” – The Metal Crypt

“Obsolescence is a very successful fourth album, once again combining the technique of the Quebec scene and the groove of an old man Gojira or one Revocation, all sprinkled with a good dose of plump violence. In short, we’re having a great time !” – Eklektik Rock

“Insurrection reflect today’s death metal scene rather well. On Obsolescence, we can appreciate clean production, crushing riffs, and a level of technical proficiency that, though elaborate, doesn’t devolve into something too complicated. It’s still easy to find the groove in each of the tracks. Hence, it’s somewhere in the middle between a melodic death metal band like The Black Dahlia Murder and more technical acts like Beyond Creation… it’s a fun listen!” – Heavy Music HQ

“a mangy in-your-face board with rich grooves, some thrashy set pieces and a noticeably thumping bass that knows how to shake up the pit of the stomach a bit, especially after breakfast. ” – PowerMetal.de

“If a well produced and well balanced variety of dynamic extreme metal with a liberal amount of switches back and forth between thrash metal and extreme metal territories is music that tend to interest you, this is an album that should appeal to you.” – Viking in the Wilderness

“Nice and meaty death/melodic death. Catchy groovin stuff!” – Moshpit Radio 89.9 FM WORT (Madison, WI)

What the press is saying:

“Located an hour and a half east of Calgary is the town of Drumheller, Alberta. With a population in the neighborhood of 8000 and existing smack dab in the middle of Canada’s desert and dinosaur country, it’s not a place one would immediately associate with any sort of metal scene, let alone a big-ass outdoor metal fest. But that’s where you’d be wrong. Going into its 11th year, the Loud as Hell Festival is set to roll on August 4-6th with the likes of Narcotic Wasteland, Jungle Rot and Incite headlining three days of metallic fun featuring 40 or so bands, including The Convalesence, Gorgatron, Necronomicon, Untimely Demise, Eyes of Perdition and more.” – Decibel Magazine

“Western Canada’s loudest heavy metal festival brings fans to town more known for dinos than drum solos.” – CBC Calgary

“What’s more metal than the badlands? Drumheller, AB, is known for being the dinosaur capital of the world — but it’s also the home of the Loud as Hell festival, an event celebrating none other than the loudest music known to man (and, by proxy, prehistoric reptile).” – Exclaim!

“Loud as Hell – one of Canada’s top underground metal festivals – was a metal family reunion. If you walked around the grounds, where tents covered the landscape like flowers, you would experience concert goers laughing, hugging and just enjoying the moment. The music played non-stop and the people were some of the best you’ll meet. What else do you need? If you’re a metalhead fan, mark it down for next year because this is a concert you don’t want to miss.” – Blackfalds Life

“Headbanger alert: Loud As Hell festival to ramp up the volume” – Calgary Herald

“Nevermind the bug spray and sun tan lotion, as August approaches Drumheller residents should stock up on earplugs.” – Calgary Herald

“Loud As Hell returns to the southern Alberta city for its seventh year and as its name implies, will rock the city to its core.” – Calgary Herald

“Loud as Hell has celebrated eight years in the Badlands to date, with acts from all over the world-shattering the peace and quiet of the hills in a camping and music extravaganza.” – Hanna Herald

“Drumheller with its dinosaur bones is the site of the annual Loud as Hell heavy metal festival Friday through Sunday. Dozens of the heaviest bands known to Man will be taking the stage, many of them Canadian” – Gig City

Quebec’s TROLLWAR Reveals Teaser & Artwork For New EP “Tales from the Frozen Wastes” – A Journey Into Darkness – Out Nov 2024

Quebec-based melodic symphonic metal band Trollwar gearing up to release their fifth record “Tales from the Frozen Wastes” on November 15, 2024. The band is excited to reveal the stunning album artwork, along with offering fans a glimpse into the dark and epic world they’ve created with a new album teaser. They share their thoughts on the recording:

“We think our album could really be described as a renewal. A renewal of our music and a new maturity for our music. We do think that you can hear it through our songs in this release. “The Unseen One” and “In the Fields of Frost” are both great songs that we wrote a couple of years ago, while “Bane of the Underworld” and “The Offering” are pretty much the new Trollwar that you should expect going forward. These two songs show a clear upgrade of how we write our music.”

“Tales from the Frozen Wastes” promises to be Trollwar‘s most complex and complete release to date, showcasing the band’s evolution towards a more melodic and symphonic sound while incorporating progressive elements. The EP features five tracks, including a prologue, that will transport listeners into a darker dimension ruled by shadows and supreme deities.

The album artwork, unveiled today, depicts a desolate landscape ruled by a higher force, where darkness looms over all. This visual representation perfectly captures the essence of Trollwar‘s music – epic and hopeful, yet dark and malicious. It is recommended for fans of Wintersun, Ensiferum, and Amon Amarth.

Top 20 2018 Metal album from Quebec by Metal Universe (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)

“The whole record is an adventure; the sequencing flows well from song to song and is bumpered nicely by an intro that sets the mood, plus an outro that gently brings things to a close, returning the listener safely back to their respective realities. At the end of the day, I definitely think Trollwar is onto something here; they are proudly waving the folk-metal banner and are destined for big things.” – PureGrainAudio (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)

”The vocals are abrasively savage, and the swirling keyboard melody is like ear heroin. I can’t help myself — the song pushes too many buttons for me to resist.” – No Clean Singing (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)

“OATH OF THE STORM has a wave of well-written catchy songs, good production, lots of intensity and power as well, which is something some of the other bands lack. TrollWar is a pretty appropriate name for this enjoyable act and OATH OF THE STORM is one of the more intense Folk Metal albums out this year.” – Metal Rules (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)

“Overall, this was an outstanding album, for a band that clearly has a lot to offer. What I can’t figure out is why no one has signed them yet? The production is excellent. They have a sophistication and complexity in their sound that few others do, yet each track is very easy to listen to. It’s like you combined the best of the old, IRON MAIDEN, with the best of the new, WINTERSUN, and you have TROLLWAR, with their own unique flair. The melodies are both playful and dangerous, and the entire album is excellent from the opener through the closer. “Oath of the Storm” is a fascinating glimpse into the soul of the band, where they let it all out there for you to enjoy. And enjoy it I did!” – 9/10 – Metal Temple (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)

”the tracks are face smashing and memorable with enough layers to satisfy even the most tech savvy of you folksters”…….”It’s hard to necessarily give you specifics other than multiple layers of instrumentation, blast beats, keys and symphonic touches with shredding guitar and vocals.”- Folk Metal.NL (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)

“TROLLWAR deliver “Oath of the Storm”, a strong second work that should not only be interesting for fans of FINNTROLL and ENSIFERUM… The Canadians’ independent, accordion-driven folk black metal proves that real fighting roles don’t just inhabit Scandinavia and the surrounding area. Then a resounding “kippis!” or an elegant “à votre santé!”. 4/5″ – Stormbringer

“Uncompromising and lovable – Oath Of The Storm… Conclusion: “Oath Of The Storm” is an interesting folk metal album and for fans of EQUILIBRIUM or FINNTROLL. TROLLWAR is characterized by good song progression and incredible joy in playing… So if you’re still looking for a Christmas present, you can grab it here without hesitation.” – Metal.de

“Am I Invisible and is a sonic soiree in waiting for those who like their metal I the neighbourhood of early Machine Head, post-Roots Sepultura, Lamb of God and Fear Factory resplendent with big guitars, bigger grooves and the biggest choruses.” – Decibel Magazine

“… the song (“How Strong You Are”) includes an anthemic and inspirational chorus, where the vocals rise into impassioned singing. But don’t expect music that feels like it’s seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. The music itself puts up with no excuses, but instead punches fast and damned hard. Backed by battering percussion and thundering basslines, the song includes fiery, writhing riffage and hard-slugging, high-howling hardcore fury. It does soar in the catchy chorus, but even there the vocals also rabidly snarl, and the band always return to pile-driving the listener’s neck, punctuated by some start-stop bursts of high-speed jackhammering and gruesomely growled words. On top of all that, the song includes a fluidly slithering and swirling guitar that itself spirals high, and a finale in which the vocals become truly harsh and scarring while the band inflict one last brute-force beating.” – NoCleanSinging

“”Am I Invisible” by BornBroken is a masterful exploration of the human experience. Its blend of aggressive metal with deeply personal themes creates an album that is both thought-provoking and sonically impressive.” – Din Intunerec

“BORNBROKEN, a name to remember which risks making a lot of noise with this monstrous and devastating new album from Neo Death Thrash groove with a little touch of subtlety.” – OdyMetal

“a solid slab of metal with no time for melodic interludes and once it gets on course, they do not deviate one iota. It’s this blinker on approach makes the album as strong as it is… a powerful statement of intent.- Metal Epidemic

“Am I Invisible is a narrative that invites one to reflect on their own experiences. Each track, from the overwhelming stress of “7 Mondays” to the introspective nature of “Will You Remember,” is a chapter in a broader story about the highs and lows of life. BornBroken’s dedication to their craft is evident. They’ve poured their hearts into this album and it shows in the intensity of their performances and the authenticity of their lyrics. It’s an exceptional and bold exploration of the struggles we all face and is music that speaks to the heart of the human experience while delivering relentless metal energy.” – Amplify The Noise

Fans of speedy rock n’ roll get ready to jump into the spinning turbines of LA’s Gigantum and their ode to punk rock with their latest music video “Rock Box”. The track amps up to 100mph for a swift kick in your ass to get your blood pumping. The song is featured on the band’s recently released self-titled debut album, which ranges from straight-up rock to doomy stoner riffs to creative solos, and relatable lyrics. Not held back by the structure of a certain genre, Gigantum has a lot of room to evolve and they set into that role with gusto.

“Each song tells its own story and takes you someplace different. They have their own personality. The record’s listening experience takes you on a journey. We are trying to shake the foundation and rattle the windows.” adds the band.

The video for “Rock Box” can be seen and heard via its premiere on New Noise Magazine HERE.

Gigantum‘s debut album is a true collaboration, and each track offers a distinct experience, taking listeners on a sonic journey as they explore each individual personal of the tracks. The EP is now available on all major streaming platforms and is recommended for fans of Clutch, Baroness, Royal Thunder, and Fu Manchu.

Released on September 6th, 2024, Gigantum‘s self-titled album is available at https://gigantumband.bandcamp.com

“It’s wide ranging heavy music odyssey that spans six hefty heavy rock tracks on ‘Gigantum’ (2024)” – Doomed & Stoned

“Gigantum have released a no-hold barred “NO FUCKS GIVEN” attitude that will no doubt strike a chord with the jaded Doom/Stoner Metal fan currently out there. Excellent and Highly Recommended.” – Outlaws of the Sun

“With a flair for the dramatic, Gigantum has a no-nonsense approach to writing and riffing, yet remains free of pretension that fouls up a lot of modern bands with retro influences. This is only the beginning for this band! Jam out Gigantum to 11 and burn one right now!” – Ghost Cult Magazine

“Gigantum’ is an impressive debut that showcases the band’s ability to traverse different musical territories while maintaining a cohesive and powerful sound. With each track telling its own story, GIGANTUM crafts a listening experience that is both diverse and deeply rooted in heavy rock tradition. This album is a must-listen for fans of bands like Black Sabbath, Clutch, and Fu Manchu who crave a mix of crushing riffs, heavy grooves, and dynamic vocals.8.5/10” – Infrared Magazine

“If you can imagine a slightly more psychedelic variety of classic era Black Sabbath that has been given a little bit of a punk attitude and expression then you should have a fair general idea of what to expect from this album. An album I suspect quite a few who tend to enjoy vintage era doom metal might find to be an interesting experience.” – Viking in the Wilderness

“That sort of plot is perfect for a stoner jam like “Necron99,” the closer to their self-titled debut album. There’s a good deal of jamming going on in this album” – Heavy Music HQ

“the group from Los Angeles chooses many unconventional methods and also reveals exciting things here.” – PowerMetal.de

“All experienced musicians, this is the work of a fully-fledged group that is ready for anything.

But as for “Monkey King,” for all its doom-laden, Sabbath jamming on Fu Manchu chic, it’s a band that will do things on its own terms. Mia X is capable of whipping up a frenzy, and “For All My Friends” has something truly unsettling about it. If the album as a whole feels like heavy psych and melody are engaged in a battle to the death, then never is that better shown than on the fabulous “Forever Dreaming.”… with this self-titled statement, Gigantum are laying down a big marker. 8/10″ – Maximum Volume Music

” an energetic hard rock record with a couple of very good doom songs. Recommended.” – Flying Fiddle Sticks

“Groovin’ stoner/doom” – The Moshpit 89.9FM (Madison, WI)

Western Canada’s largest mountain mosh pit Armstrong MetalFest will be celebrating 15 years of bringing extreme metal music fans from across Canada and beyond to British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley with their forthcoming 2025 lineup being held on July 11th-12th in Armstrong at the Hassen Arena.

This 15th annual gathering of metalheads will once again witness two days of unforgettable moshing, headbanging, and camping. From iconic headliners to promising newcomers, the 2025 lineup is set to showcase the best of diverse metal genres, ensuring an electrifying experience for all.

Bands interested in applying to perform at the 2025 festival can submit at the following link from October 1st to 15th: https://armstrongmetalfest.ca/band-submissions/

In addition to band submissions opening for 2025, Armstrong MetalFest has been honoured with the Tourism and Hospitality Award at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Community Excellence Award Show this past September.

The 2024 lineup hosted Los Angeles death metal masters ABYSMAL DAWN (July 12th) and Kansas City THE BROWNING (July 13th) who unleashed their unique eclectic blend of electronicore and deathcore. Also featured were dissonant and atmospheric Vancouver tech death metallers ATRÆ BILIS, and Orlando’s two-fisted two steppin’ double-wide aural assault squad BODYBOX. Returning to the festival, were the Okanagan’s very favourite Black Metallers XUL (Vernon, BC) and Edmonton death metallers EYE OF HORUS along with first-time performances from Vancouver twin brother duo OPAL IN SKY, San Francisco’s outside-the-box prog metallers CYBORG OCTOPUS, and the tech death fury of Riverside, CA’s ARKAIK among many more.

Since 2009 (minus pause years 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic), West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong Metalfest have not only fostered the talent of hundreds of local bands, but have imported well-known, international acts to the quiet, little Canadian town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Each year hundreds of metal music fans from Canada and the USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun, they spend three days camping, taking in as much metal over two days, participating in wrestling events, scavenger hunts, and catching up with their metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Nekrogoblikon, Origin, Rivers of Nihil, Warbinger, Fallujah, Striker, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on the Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C. but also gives bands opportunities to play at different venues throughout the region including all-ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.
