About:

Capturing the classic thrash sound of the Big Four in their prime; early Metallica, Testament, Slayer, and Megadeth as well as lesser known cult heroes Exodus, Annihilator, Forbidden and Havok.  FALLEN ANGELS is influenced by a wide range of 80’s thrash as well as classic metal from the 70’s and 80’s. The band combines these elements in a fresh, modern sounding album with the explosive riffs and solos that one might have expected to hear on the radio around 1989.  FALLEN ANGELS is a band that thrash fans and more classic metal oriented fans can agree on because the music is catchy but also very aggressive.

“Picking out the deadwood from the glut of thrash bands filling the thrash metal genre around the world is not easy but you would not go wrong by checking out this Seattle band as they write clever songs with some brilliantly played leads that are a standout.” – Ave Noctum

“”World In Decay” from Fallen Angels is a solid Thrash album that flies the old school flag” – Metal Only

“I most enjoy how Fallen Angels incorporate so many different types of songs and moments on World in Decay….the spirit of thrash metal is alive and well in Seattle (of all places) with Fallen Angels” – Metal Nation Radio

“If you were in love with the Bay Area scene, check this album out when it hits. And if you are a fan of irony, thrash coming from Seattle should show you that grunge is the loser in the long run of lasting metal mayhem. If you snag a copy, we’d love to hear what you think about it.” – National Rock Review

“These guys give it to you on a molten metal platter with a side of Voivod. This thrash band is bound to feed the need for speed….Every song captures your interest as layer upon layer of tracks there’s something different; little nuances, grace notes, and sweeps. It’s a wonderful earful of surgically placed notes amidst a hail storm of ice picks on your steel shore.” – Horror Metal Sounds

“Nearly every track on this album could be considered a highlight, but my favourites are “Fire At Eden’s Gate” and “Into The Abyss”…On the whole, “World In Decay” is a very impressive album, thanks in large part to the stellar musicianship and attention to detail in the songwriting. Hopefully this album breaks the band through in a much bigger way, because they are deserving of a lot of attention based on this album!” – Skull Fracturing Metal

“”World In Decay” is one of the best thrash metal albums that I have heard in long time.” – Heavy Metal Time Machine

“Listening to World In Decay is a definite blast from the past. Fallen Angels incorporates various elements of Slayer, Megadeth and early Metallica. Songs are fast-paced, contain some political messages and, of course, have energetic guitar solos worthy of melting anyone’s face. Right off the bat, The Hammer’s Blow opens up the album with a short guitar solo, which sets the overall tone and pace for the entirety of the album.” – Screamer Magazine

“if you want intricate, tuneful thrash metal loaded with gratuitous leads and quasi-political lyrics, you’ve got it.” – Terrorizer

“think the weighty arrangements and acoustic sections of Metallica-meets-the technical wizardry of Forbidden, with hints of Realm’s progressive tendencies and Toxik’s shredding leads and shameless melodies.” – Terrorizer

“As The Big Four were known for that unique sound they helped to create and make popular. Thrash now lives on from Seattle with Fallen Angels.” – National Rock Review

“Pure US-Thrash” – Rock Hard

“From a savage, high-octane riff fest in “Legacy of Pain” to a mid-paced, pounding skull crusher “Descension into Madness”, Fallen Angels not only show their true ability to write thrash songs that stand out effortlessly, but are also determined to get their name on people´s lips for good – along with the excellence of their 2nd album, ENGINES OF OPPRESSION. This stuff is meant to kill, even from a long distance.” – Metal-Rules

Bonnyville, AB death-infused melodic metallers SILENT LINE has teamed up with Bravewords.com for the premiere of their second single ‘Black And White’ off their upcoming concept album ‘Shattered Shores’, which is the follow up to their 2012 LP ‘Born of Dying Star’.

Vocalist/guitarist Michael Burton comments about the track:

“‘Black And White’ as part of the concept album is the track that represents the transition into winter after the inferno in the last song. Primarily dealing with the passage of time and fading memories, the lyrics describe a person longing to remember better times. Longing as well for a simpler time when things were seen as black or white: simple and clear choices that do not truly exist. Complex shades of grey have become reality. A lead guitar laden intro moves into a percussive verse featuring mainly drums and bass underneath the vocals. There isn’t a very complex structure to the song, but as with lots of the album it is the feeling that matters, not the amount of notes or changes in time signature.”

To listen to ‘Black And White‘, please visit the following link: http://bravewords.com/news/exclusive-silent-line-premier-black-and-white-audio-streaming

Producing heavy and melodic music with an orchestral flair rooted in death metal‘Shattered Shores’ is the band’s first concept album. The title track is split into two parts, and throughout the album several thematic riffs and lyrics are repeated, creating a motif for listeners. The title references being stranded and trapped forever as the shores become more eroded and the reality of isolation sets in. The lyrics revolve around the themes of overcoming hardships, anxiety, and “weathering the storm” in order to persevere. A single person is referred to throughout the album and everything is told from their point of view as they wander, stuck on the island — unsure of how they got there, and unsure if they will ever leave.

SILENT LINE is composed of Mike Burton leading the charge on guitar and vocals, Randy Bergh writing pummeling guitar riffs, Andy Sidloski crafting driving bass lines, and Adam Kallstrom thundering on drums. The line up charges audiences with their energy and fills the entire room with its symphonic melodies. heir dedication to their craft is strengthened by their loyal fans, who have supported their development over the years with their two previous albums  ‘Born of A Dying Star’ (2012) and ‘One Body Blade’ (2010).

Track Listing: Silent Line – Shattered Shores

Saskatchewan’s post-hardcore outfit Bonfire are teaming up with Exclaim! Magazine to exclusively premiere their new music video ‘Mom’s Garden’, the title track from their new EP that was released on October 2nd plus was produced and mastered by Karl Shubach from Misery Signals.

The video showcases a beautifully lit room that matches the warmth coming from the band performing ‘Mom’s Garden.’ There is little to no eye contact for the duration of the video to enhance the melancholic atmosphere portrayed in the lyrics and tone of the song. The band is bringing their signature brand of energetic yet somber movement that embodies their post-hardcore, folk-infused music.

“Thank you to Exclaim! for hosting the premiere of our music video ‘Mom’s Garden’ the title track of our debut EP. The video was directed by the talented Dylan Hryciuk of Versa Films. The video captures the sombre tone of the music and lyrics through a warm colour palette, as well as depicts the intensity and emotion of our live performances through quick and creative cinematography. We couldn’t be happier to share it and deeply encourage you to check it out. This release has meant the world to us, and we are unbelievably excited to finally release it!” – Kurt Wolfe (Drums)

‘Mom’s Garden’ can be watched at the following link: http://exclaim.ca/Music/article/bonfire-moms_garden_video

Bonfire are giving the option to fans to purchase ‘Mom’s Garden’ as pay what you want on their bandcamp page here – http://bonfiresk.bandcamp.com.

Track Listing

1. Snow Crest

2. Mom’s Garden

3. What About Your Girl

4. A Darker Shade of Grey

Album Credits: All song, written and performed by Bonfire, Produced and mastered by Karl Shubach

Album Line Up: Greg Demers (Guitar/Vocals), James Wojak (Guitar), Thomas Gelley (Bass), Kurt Wolfe (Drums)

Biography:

Bonfire creates dark, honest music painted through sorrowful lyrics and a haunting guitar tone. The four piece hails from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and features members of Hhogwash and other local bands from the hardcore scene.

Lyrically Greg Demers (guitar/vocals) draws from family issues, relationships, and in general low points in life to compose an image for listeners. Thomas Gelley (Bass) and James Wojak (guitar) generate the resonating instrumentals while Kurt Wolfe (drums) drives the songs forward.

Despite the emotional lyrics and dreary instrumentals their passion and energy on stage is explosive, yet sombre. Bonfire started in 2012 and since then has released Adderall (demo) and a split with Newborn last year.

The band is releasing ‘Mom’s Garden’ Fri., Oct. 2, along with a fall tour across Eastern Canada.

“Though they’ve been dropping songs online over the past couple weeks, and will be putting more up over the next few as well, getting people hyped about a new album they have coming out. Bread from Flipper and Low, The Melvins and Harvey Milk, if this is the future of Hardcore, or Post-Hardcore, or whatever genre people are calling it, I need to check out more shows.” – Deadcitypress.ca

About:

Started as a recording project in the late 90’s, it wasn’t until 2001 that the work ethic that produced a slew of underground releases drove Fuck The Facts towards full band status and into the live arena. Since then, the Ottawa-based unit has barely stopped for a breath of reconsideration, associating themselves with some of the biggest labels in underground extreme music, as well as continuing a steady output of DIY releases. Having toured hundreds of thousands of kilometers throughout North America and Europe, guitarist/founder Topon Das, vocalist Mel Mongeon, drummer Mathieu Vilandré, bassist/vocalist Marc Bourgon, and guitarist Johnny Ibay have performed at some of the biggest festivals and sweated it out in some of the smallest basements. From 2006-2011 Fuck The Facts released three albums via underground powerhouse label, Relapse Records.  Upon the completion of their contract, the quintet decided it was time to put the finishing touches on the proverbial full-circle, returning to the world of fierce independence and creative control. Their most recent releases were produced entirely at their own studio, self-released, and shows Fuck The Facts efforts as an entity continuing to grow musically and personally while developing a deeper understanding of what significance their art holds to them. As one of the longest running and most recognizable names in Canadian Grindcore, FUCK THE FACTS continue to deliver their brand of “Bastardized Grindcore” with no end in sight.

About:

Like the slow churn of a mechanical wheel grinding metal, the warship produces a punishing onslaught of sound from start to finish. Lyrically, the dreadnought writing forces are their bassist and vocalist, who focus on themes surrounding current events, horror, and politics – sometimes all rolled into one song.

VANTABLACK WARSHIP’s crew is comprised of Yannick (Pil) Pilon (Arseniq33, Buffalo Theory MTL) at the helm on vocals, Pat Gordon (Ghoulunatics, Les Ekorchés, Leprocy, Buffalo Theory Mtl) on guitar, Pierre Pitre (Arseniq33, Foreshadow) manning the drums, Thierry Hivon (Brutal Chérie, Sarkasm) rigging the guitar,  and Kurt Clifford (Foreshadow) anchoring the bass.

“It’s a menacing mix of explosive thrash and you can let it pummel your senses by hitting play” – Exclaim!

“thrash, groove and gnarly vocals…it’s metal from start to finish and yet the overwhelming sense throughout is that this band’s attitude is punk to the core.”  – Five Albums

“The six songs are exactly what you would expect from a band in this genre, hard, ruthless, agressive and this with a healthy dose of “f*ck the world and all in it” attitude…With this short record, Vantablack Warship shows they fit right into the current crossover scene and fans of bands like Municipal Waste or Suicidal Tendencies can surely appreciate this little piece of work.” – Lords of Metal

Making their first Toronto appearances at Indie Week on October 16th and Pinktober 5.0 on October 17th, Edmonton, AB’s VAN HALST is a fierce, empowering force of hard rock fused with metal.  A project, which began as a solo artist for whom the band is named after — Kami Van Halst, has since become a full group producing socially conscious, lyrical tracks that focus on disenfranchised and marginalized populations.
Leading up to their performances in Toronto, the band has unleashed their first single ‘Save Me’ from their forthcoming 2016 album “World of Make Believe’, which will be performed live for the first time in Toronto.
Vocalist Kami Van Halst comments about the single:
“Save Me is about Religious Extremists. We chose it for our first single because it’s a statement piece. We wanted to come out with a bang and show everyone what we’re about. We’re very excited to release the song to the world.”
To listen to ‘Save Me’, please visit the following link: https://vanhalst.bandcamp.com/track/save-me
Also available on iTunes and CD Baby
More about Van Halst:
The band’s influences stay true to goth rock, Kami Van Halst demonstrates an agile vocal delivery in combination with pummelling growls. Lyrically, the band draws from black metal due to its focus on people suffering from isolation and rising to overcome the preconceptions of a judgemental society. In This Moment’s industrial fusion remains a primary influence for Van Halst, employing a sampler, synthesizer, and distorted vocals.

Kami Van Halst dominates as the vocalist performing both growls and soaring vocals (Surviving Suzanne), Scott Greene (Derina Harvey Band/Dirty Pool) and Strathon J. Bajowsky (Havok Way) craft the guitar work while Brendan McMillan (bass) (My Darkest Days) and Brett Seaton (drums) (Cultured by Fire) drive the rhythm section of the band. Kami’s range and virtuosic vocal ability always captivates an audience and her attitude on stage truly delivers the meaning behind the songs. The main writing forces for the band are Kami and Scott working together to give listeners a vivid image of social injustices. The band’s live performance is a theatric experience as the utilize full-costumes, make-up and stage props.

SCISSORTOOTH are streaming their title track off of their full-length ‘Novagomorrah’ through YELL! Magazine and are offering up a chance for people to win signed copies of the album. The song and album name pairs up “nova” (Meaning new), and the religious tale of the twin cities Sodom and Gomorrah, which were a sinner’s paradise, thus ‘Novagomorrah’ is an interpretation of the current state of the world. Derek Lunblad, guitar and vocals for Vancouver thrash metal group had this to say about the track:

“Welcome to Novagomorrah! The Title Track sits at just over eight minutes, it’s our “Rime of The Ancient Mariner” or our “Stonehenge.” This track has big, gloomy verses flanked with rapid choruses and a second act of high energy metal. Thank you to YELL!Magazine for hosting this track, we hope you thoroughly enjoy this beast!”

Fans are also invited to enter to win a signed copy of ‘Novagomorrah’ by sharing their soundcloud link found here: http://www.yellmagazine.com/exclusive-song-premiere-scissortooths-novagomorrah/103987/

Biography

Scissortooth is a Canadian Thrash Metal band from Vancouver, B.C..  Formed in 2003 by Derek Lundblad (Vocalist/guitarist) and Shawn Hoskins (drummer), formerly from Mantra, moved to the west coast from Grande Prairie, A.B.. The current line-up comprises of founding members Lundblad, Hoskins, and Ken Firomski (bassist), Ken  (Empyria and Cradle to Grave) who moved from Granisle B.C.. (Empyria and Cradle to Grave).

The band’s melodic hooks, varying tempos, and aggressive musicianship alongside of original writing approach and unique timbre has given their songs a different edge to most modern acts. Influenced by a wide spectrum of sounds of bands like Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, Type O Negative to Soundgarden, Tool, Pink Floyd and Nine Inch Nails have lent to the songwriting and arrangements a flavor that fills a void in today’s often bland musical climate.

Their debut full length, Novagomorrah is scheduled to be release July 28, 2015.

“I really got a Mastodon, like The Sword kind of vibe from your music”-Tiny and Plankman Show on Tap Detroit

“Scissortooth, a Canadian band hailing from Vancouver, have found the way to really transport listeners to the past, during thrash metal’s “death” years, when it struggled to find new ears. They take the genre and blend it with the music that was killing thrash, and metal in general: grunge, via Alice in Chains, who were the “metalhead’s grunge”, and even Soundgarden.” – Crown of Viserys

“Erupting in a very Static X sounding intro, the album quickly descends into a heated, thrashy fervor. Fasted paced triplets, driving rhythms and expansive vocal wails create an atmosphere immediately reminiscent of the thrash metal glory days of olde. “ – Canadian Beats

Taking influence from Europe’s music festival circuit, Armstrong Metal Fest is a heavy metal celebration that encourages metal heads from across Canada and the globe to mosh and camp with the backdrop of great outdoors of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. What started as a backyard party in 2009 with nothing but eleven local metal bands such as Terrifier, Xul and Odinfist to name a few, has grown into a a huge success admired by the Western Canadian Metal scene. 2016 will be the eighth year of the festival and is planned to be the largest year for music and attendance yet. This year’s team of organizers known as the West Metal Entertainment Society is the most dedicated to date and are excited to present an incredible line up along with some changes to come for AMF 2016.
