This marks the culmination of an eight-year journey for the band, resulting in their most ambitious and fully realized work to date. “This is one of those compositions that requires total immersion. Clean singing, bah who needs singing at all?! Recorded with finetuned care so you can hear all the little fret squeaks before they ramp up the ambience straight from a John Fruscianterecord. With synths and other keys that chameleon-ize said maestro’s voice, later emulating the sound of a backing choir that then morphs into church organ. When the atmospherics basking in the background saunter forth, the darker shades of green start to realize and the track enters the domain of prog royalty. Toronto proggers Jupiter Hollow announces they will perform two Ontario show dates for March and April with more to be announced in the coming year (listed below). The band has been expanding their catalog with their latest single and music video “Incivility” (watch below) released this past November as they make progress on more music to be released in the coming months.

Pushing from one horizon onto the next, Jupiter Hollow‘s growth has come a long way since making their debut as a duo in 2015. Led by the fearless Grant MacKenzie and Kenny Parry, this recording and songwriting powerhouse duo has transformed into a live quartet with the addition of John Ryan Godfrey (Bass) and Nathaniel Reynolds-Welsh (Drums).

Quiescent Mantis‘ debut album “Here Comes The Swarm” was produced by Yanic Bercier (Quo Vadis, Gone In April) at WaveTransform Recording Studio and unleashed in July 2024 on Exitus Stratagem Records. The genre-defying release blends elements of hardcore, thrash, death, and metalcore into a whirlwind of relentless aggression.

Formed during the tumultuous COVID-19 lockdown, Quiescent Mantis emerged from the fusion of former scientists Chris Trainor, Jordan McKenzie, and Johnny Mejia. Previously employed by the enigmatic Sub-atomic Weight Of Acceleration Research Mechanics (S.W.A.R.M.), the trio embarked on a musical journey after inadvertently opening a doorway to the mantis homeworld during a particle collision experiment, exposing themselves to a mind-altering pheromone. Thus, the Chapter 1 demo was born in 2021.

Inspired by a love for old science fiction movies and thrash metal, Quiescent Mantis presents a unique, aggressive, groovy, heavy, and relentless sound that blends old-school metal techniques with new-school innovations. With influences in thrash, ODM, and blackened and progressive death metal, Sin of God‘s next sacrificial offering “Blood Bound” will please both old and new-school death metal fans at the same time. This new full-length presents a collection of variations that exhibit brutality and softness. It is something fans have heard in the past from the band but it has never sounded like this.

Exploring our present society, the record resonates with everything surrounding us, from the good and the bad to the beautiful and ugly, to life and death. “Blood Bound” is not a concept album, but it is united by the pain and rage that boils inside and felt over seven slaughtering tracks.

“This record is somewhat different from the previous ones. It’s more complex and based on modern death metal. We built Blood Bound musically on contrasts. There are amazingly fast parts (260 BPM) but really slow parts as well. It’s old-school and new-school death metal at the same time. Following the announcement of their debut full-length album “The Serpent”, Aitheer and Rockshots Records are thrilled to present the next step in this sonic journey: “The Dance of Twins”, a striking single that encapsulates the band’s fearless approach to progressive metal.

This genre-defying track is one of the most dynamic and intricate compositions on “The Serpent”, seamlessly blending black metal aggression, folk-inspired interludes, and progressive rock intricacy. The song transitions from an intense opening, marked by blistering riffs and growling vocals into unexpected acoustic passages before culminating in a soaring saxophone and guitar solo. It is a bold testament to Aitheer’s ability to traverse musical extremes, weaving chaos and melody into a cohesive and immersive listening experience.

Aitheer, formed in 2017 by Niko Löfman (vocals, guitars), Antton Kasslin (drums), and Roope Kytölä (bass), has steadily evolved from a jam and cover band into one of Finland’s most forward-thinking progressive metal acts. Italian experimental metal outfit SVNTH has just released their single “Cinnamon Moon” off their forthcoming album “Pink Noise Youth” out on These Hands Melt Records this coming April 2025. “Cinnamon Moon” showcases SVNTH‘s distinctive approach to genre-blending, weaving together elements of blackgaze and post-hardcore to create a deeply personal sonic landscape. The track stands as an emotional open letter, chronicling the complex journey of late youth through a rich tapestry of sound that includes slowdive-inspired ethereal delays, black metal screams, and the unconventional incorporation of the electric Indian sitar. The band shares their thoughts on the single:

“It unveils some of the most interesting features offered on the album in terms of sound and mood. With its captivating mix of blackgaze and post-hardcore, the song is an open letter soaked in fragility and emotional exposure, delivered to a loved one as a memorial of the hampered paths walked together on the road of late youth.”

The wait is over as Montreal, Canada’s heavy metal visionaries Mad Parish release their highly anticipated concept album “The Dust Of Forever”. Available now on all major platforms as of Jan 31st, this ambitious project marks a new pinnacle in the band’s decade-long journey. “The Dust Of Forever” is not just an album; it’s a multi-faceted experience that pushes the boundaries of heavy metal storytelling. Spanning 21 tracks, the album weaves an original narrative following Joe, an immortal protagonist caught in a universe-threatening cataclysm. The band shares how the album came to be:

“The album has interesting origins. A song from our first album was inspired by a comic book. After Bob joined the band, he mused about what would happen if this priest from the comic discovered that he was immortal, and the song “The Dust Of Forever” was written. Once we started writing some more songs we discussed what kind of album to make next. That is when we came upon the idea of expanding this world we were writing about, and making a concept album.”

Going full-on, epic prog metal was a big challenge for Mad Parish and they set out to write a story that they would tell through the songs, and decided to create a companion comic book to accompany the album. Creatively, this is the most adventurous thing they’ve done to date.

From the opening “Prologue” to the climactic “Hail To The Hunter”, listeners are taken on an immersive journey through a richly imagined world. The album showcases Mad Parish‘s evolution, blending their NWOBHM-inspired roots with progressive rock structures, 70’s rock swagger, 80’s new wave textures, and even hints of classical and jazz. I stopped trying to keep updated in the genre many years ago, but sometimes there are bands that impress on me – or at least bring something different to most other bands in the genre. Montreal (Canada) band Mad Parish is a band I’d like to bring to your attention. They have a sound that comes closer to the end of the 80’s and early 90’s, which I like a lot. Sacramento, USA’s progressive metal pioneers LUNAR are set to release their most ambitious project to date, “Tempora Mutantur” on January 31, 2025. A meticulously crafted concept album that explores the intricate passages of time, personal transformation, and emotional landscapes, the record represents a milestone in the band’s continuing musical evolution. They comment on the release:

“We’re very excited to present our new album “Tempora Mutantur” to the world! This album is more thematic rather than conceptual like the last album. This album deals with something everyone can relate to and no one can escape: the passing of time. As we get older, our perspective changes, we gain some things, and lose others… sometimes the things and ones we love. And we struggle and fight along the way.”

Lunar hopes that fans will be able to resonate with the album and find some solace in it as it is highly relatable to the theme of time passing. FROGG To Deliver A Sonic “Eclipse” of Bold, Modern Metal w/ Debut Album Coming March 2025

Frogg, the technical metal sensation from New York, USA, announces they will unveil their debut album “Eclipse” in March 2025. A long time in waiting, this first full-length features ten tracks of heavy, raw, progressive, and avant-garde thinking metal.

Over the last two years, the band has been unraveling singles such as “Double Vision Roll”, “Dandelion”, and “Wake Up” with music videos, all of which will be showcased on the record that was co-produced by Frogg guitarist/vocalist Sky Moon Clark and Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist, Scale the Summit).

The singles each exhibited different stylistic strengths, “Wake Up” being more progressive, “Dandelion” and “Double Vision Roll” more in the vein of something between death metal and prog metal. At the end of the day, Frogg is an amalgamation of the music the quartet enjoys, and that’s what the band is and why they sit in between a few key sub-genres.

“A sonic eclipse where every genre collides—progressive, technical, and just enough death to keep your neck sore for weeks.” adds the band’s newest addition bassist Ethan Emery (Survive The Sun & Absurd Condition).

“The people who are already faithful to FROGG will find as much of the stuff that they signed up for as surprises. We don’t operate in one genre all the time,” adds drummer Will Brown.

Lyrically, the record explores Mythology from various places along with tying tales and emotions together. Fans can expect seasonal singles from Frogg going forward as they already have plans for follow-up singles to come real soon after the album’s release.

FROGG’s main ambition is to hit the live circuit with a perfected performance and its brand-new line-up. With performance in mind, FROGG has been relentlessly rehearsing new original material and old, to deliver an authentic live experience.
