Taking influence from Europe’s music festival circuit, Armstrong Metal Fest is a heavy metal celebration that encourages metal heads from across Canada and the globe to mosh and camp with the backdrop of great outdoors of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. What started as a backyard party in 2009 with nothing but eleven local metal bands such as Terrifier, Xul and Odinfist to name a few, has grown into a a huge success admired by the Western Canadian Metal scene. 2016 will be the eighth year of the festival and is planned to be the largest year for music and attendance yet. This year’s team of organizers known as the West Metal Entertainment Society is the most dedicated to date and are excited to present an incredible line up along with some changes to come for AMF 2016. BRUTAL BATTLE CUBA is proud to announce its line up for the 2016 national final taking place in Montreal, QC on April 23rd at Piranha Bar. After battle rounds in Oshawa, Ottawa, and Montreal, the following bands listed below will be competing for one to perform on this year’s BRUTAL SUMMER FEST TOUR across CUBA from from Aug 18-28. The winning Canadian band will be introduced to every aspect of Cuban culture during their seven dates over two weeks across the country with five to seven other international bands that includes crew members, drivers and one big bus on the road. The winning band will also be given the opportunity to be endorsed by companies such as InTune Guitar Picks and SoulTone Cymbals as well as a few other great prizes from their sponsors.

“I can hardly believe it is almost the final. We had so many great bands for the first edition of BBC, it was a tough call every night for the judges. About:
Founding members Joe Howes (lead guitar) and Mackenzie Walas (lead vocals) met at an open mic night at a local tavern in Canada’s northern oil patch of Fort McMurray, Alberta in early 2013. Playing music was an outlet to get away from the busy lifestyle of a thriving boom-town. After playing songs together until they closed the place, it was certain that this was the start of a great musical friendship. Mackenzie had been performing around town and was looking to start a band. Joe had recently moved to town and had yet to meet anyone who shared his passion for rock music and performing.

They were dedicated to forming a band that wrote great songs and could match that quality on stage. Their songwriting process reflects the personality of the band. Laid back with a sense of motivated purpose for finding something new yet familiar, while trying not be limited by the influences of other genres…and having a whole lot of fun while doing it. Powerful raspy vocals with multiple harmonies, big guitar solos and heavy drums are the tools they use to find their sound. Bands like the Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Big Wreck, but also Stevie Ray Vaughn, ZZ Top, and the Eagles can be heard as influences.

At the very same open mic night, a few months later, they met Handsome Rob (drums) and with the help of some friends, the band released its self-titled debut, a 6-song EP in February of 2014. After recruiting Jeremy Connell (bass), the band’s line-up was complete. Since then, they have been pouring the pavement, performing at a variety of events in the Wood Buffalo region and across Alberta. The band has had the privilege of sharing the stage with The Sheepdogs, The Trews, and Trooper to name a few.

In November 2014, they began recording their new album at Sound Extractor Studios in Edmonton, AB. They wanted to capture the excitement and energy of their live shows, so most tracks were recorded live to retain their on-stage chemistry. “Kicking’ Stones” was released as the band’s first single and they filmed their first music video in support during the summer of 2015. The new album titled “The Devil’s in the Details” was released on September 26th, 2015. They plan on touring Canada in support of their record in the spring of 2016.

In the meantime, the Gentlemen continue playing a bunch of shows for awesome people, and writing new tunes for a future album as they plan for their upcoming Cross Canada Tour.

Canadian 80’s thrashers AGGRESSION announce they will be hitting the road this summer for their USA ‘Demons of West Coast Tour’ in support of their latest album ‘Fractured Psyche Demons’ released during August 2015 on Galy Records.

“As the Aggression accelerated journey to hell continues, I couldn’t be more excited about our upcoming promotional tour of the USA West Coast hitting cities that have been filled with Aggression fans since day 1. Back in the 80’s, we sold most of our demos in the L.A./San Fran market and it will be great to see some of these metal fans out there. Let’s thrash the West Coast – old school style!” comments founding member Denis Sasquatch Barthe.

In additional news, AGGRESSION is proud to announce new band member bassist Martin Meyer (ex-Disciples of Power, Life Against Death) who replaces original bass player Yves “Dug” Duguay.
Denis Sasquatch Barthe comments “The band lives in Vancouver on the West coast. Dug lives in Montreal on the East coast so that was working against us to begin with. We did a tour through Ontario and Quebec with him last spring and I think it was just too much for him. He’s been dealing with some health issues for a few years now. We all wish him the best.”

Meyer comments on joining the band “So there I was enjoying some time off from music. Having spent the better part of 30 years touring and playing in bands like the Golers, Life Against Death, this all after having my first taste of the music life with Disciples of Power all them years ago. Anyhow, like I said, I was enjoying my time off, then an old buddy of mine says to me “hey, ya wanna play a couple shows?”. So I say to myself “You should go have some fun” Well..here we are now, some time later and I say to myself. “Hey… These guys are alright, I think I’ll stick around””.

About AGGRESSION:

Fast forward to 2005. The 1986 AGGRESSION’s unreleased album Forgotten Skeleton gets unleashed and sees the band reunite at Montreal Metal Massacre fest 2005. Unable to commit to anything more than a few reunion shows, it was decided that the band would be put to rest once more. In the summer of 2014, band founder Denis Sasquatch Barthe hand picked players around him to breathe life back into Aggression. Changing home base from Montreal, QC to Vancouver, BC, Sasquatch recruited vocalist Brian Langley (from Toronto Thrash metal legends Infernal Majesty), bassist Martin Meyer (ex-Disciples of Power, Life Against Death), guitarist Dave Watson (Entropia) and Ryan Murray Idris (Expain) on drums. Since that time, the band has been its most active ever. In 2015, the band toured and co-headlined a number of festivals and select cities throughout North America along with releasing their first album of new material in 27 years entitled ‘Fractured Psyche Demons’ via Galy Records.

The cloudy beginnings of VESPERIA lay etched in the gorged bodies of former musical projects among the now four-member band. Twisting, writhing and forcing their aural onslaught upon metal audiences across the globe have sincerely ensured the band’s continuity through all the harsh and arduous battles modern metal bands are bound to encounter in their tenures.

Established in 2012 by vocalist/ bassist Morgan Rider, the sound, direction and theme of the music quickly and naturally evolved into the style of fierce and heroic metal the band is now known and praised for.

Shortly after releasing their first full-length album Voyage from Vinland, VESPERIA redefined themselves and further focused their direction with the 2012 demo, The Swordsman. ACCURSED SPAWN Release Guitar Solo Tradeoff Playthrough Video

Canadian brutal death metal outfit ACCURSED SPAWN have posted a guitar solo tradeoff video from their song ‘Clotheshanger Abortion’, taken from the 2014 EP ‘Putrid’. The video features the bands’ two 6-string wizards shredding off in a Slayer-esque solo tradeoff, that ends in a whammy slam that will send shivers down even the most seasoned metal fan’s back.

“After releasing the fretless bass playthrough last week, we received a bunch of requests for some guitar footage. We had some footage left over from a previous recording session, and figured we’d put it to work,” explains drummer Jay Cross. “We couldn’t be happier with the resulting product”.

Formed in 2011 by vocalist and guitarist Jack Cerre, bassist Kyle Scarlett and drummer Austin Henderson, the trio continue to rip through the underground Toronto metal scene without pause.

Compounding heavy riffs and bass lines reminiscent of classic thrash and new wave British heavy metal with a range of progressive to classic rock influence, Black Absinthe presents a solid example of a Canadian metal band. They’re road hungry, influenced plus supported by other driven Canadian musicians and most of all, ready to innovate and grow the traditions of a genre they venerate and respect. As leaders in the scene, Black Absinthe were headlining Toronto semi-finalists in the Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2015.

With a new year ahead, Black Absinthe pushes on with their desire to provide their fans in Canada and online with a cleaner and heavier presentation of their sound. The years incubating in Toronto’s metal underground have served the band well. Black Absinthe’s Early Signs Of Denial sound is a leading example of the contemporary Canadian metal scene serving to showcase how the band sounds in a crisp, powerful, and ultimately more professional recording environment.

Through the bands expanding network cultivated through Coalition Music’s “Artist Entrepreneur Program”, they chose Frank Gryner (Rob Zombie- Hillbilly Deluxe) to mix and master the album in the Winter of 2015. His strong ability to work with a diversity of sounds was the appeal to the band. His mixing took the album into the sonic spheres of a classic 80’s sound providing, grandeur, psychedelia, and an arena rock feel that could properly represent the textures put down in tracking. There was an immediate trust formed with the stylistic choices Gryner made throughout mixing.
