Stoner Doom Grunge Hybrid LUNG FLOWER Posts Psychedelic Music Video ‘Beyond Burnt Out’

Vancouver’s sludgy stoner doom grunge hybrid LUNG FLOWER have posted their new psychedelic music video ‘Beyond Burnt Out’ in support of their latest album, the seven track ride ‘Effigy’ released during April 2016. The album is the follow up to their 2014 EP ‘Death On The Crowsnest’ and 2012 debut album ‘Under A Dying Sun’.

The band comments on the video:

“The video was mostly shot in an abandoned house on the outskirts of Abbotsford BC. We chose this location because it was a perfect symbol for the meaning of the song, the purposely literal lyrics conveying the everyday struggle of the modern day city dwelling man. Burning the candle at both ends eventually leaves you hollow and empty, like most of this house was. We felt that this house, with its disrepair, a sad shadow of what it probably once was, served as our metaphor for a person trying to walk the edge of the abyss, the edge of alleviation and addiction. Someone who is quite literally Beyond Burnt Out.”

“Weapons Of Thrash Destruction is relentless from start to finish.” – Bravewords

“The Canadian quintet Terrifier knows full well what its strengths are and it plays to them in spades on the wonderfully titled Weapons of Thrash Destruction…This is a fine thrash record. Should make for a fun concert, too.” – The Vancouver Sun

“Terrifier proudly delivers a true-to-form tribute to the genre that thoroughly kicked the ass of the 1980s: thrash…It’s clear, metal music is not dead. Lurking in the shadows of the music industry are new artists like Terrifier, mastering their crafts, looking to flip the industry on its head. Weapons of Thrash Destruction is an impressive effort, explosively blending classic tricks with a modern, fresh feel.” – Beatroute BC

“Strike in the name of old school Metal, kneel before the gods of Metal that brought you the best music ever played in stereo, hail the insanity delivered by fast paced riffing and unholy melodic rhythms.” – Metal Temple

“The music is fast and tight, the riffs are complex and fun, the production, solos, and vocals are all spot-on, and there’s plenty of humor to boot. In other words, everything one should want from a thrash album is on Weapons of Thrash Destruction.” – Angry Metal Guy

“an old school thrash cocktail designed to blow a hole right through the bulkhead.” – Amps and Green Screens

“This album (Weapons of Thrash Destruction) is straight up unapologetic thrash! Love the album.” – CJSF – Metal Meltdown

THIS GUN FOR HIRE Posts Vocal Playthrough ‘Infection’

Debut Album ‘Something A Little More Sinister’ Out March 31st

Vancouver’s THIS GUN FOR HIRE will be unleashing their upcoming debut album ‘Something A Little More Sinister’ due out March 31, 2017. Leading up to its release, the metalcore tycoons have posted a new vocal playthrough video with frontman Shelby Tanaka for their track ‘Infection’ at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOuXWpO2gvM.

infection vocal play through - shelby tanaka (this gun for hire)

The music video for ‘Infection’ can be watched at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yzmajgdyTk

Last week, they also unleashed their other single, ‘Good Evening Deacon’ with New Noise Mag at the following link: http://newnoisemagazine.com/premiere-gun-hire-good-evening-deacon/

“‘Good Evening Deacon’ was written about an encounter that was had with a young man that was at the end of his rope. When traveling home one evening, Deacon was happened upon while on the other side of the Granville bridge, ready to leap to an untimely demise. After hours of gentle talking and coaxing, he was talked back to safety on to the other side of the railings.

This song is in his honor, and dedicated to all those who feel the misery and loneliness is too much to bare. Even when things seem their darkest, waking up over and over to the same heartache, and life is repeatedly stomping on you, intent on driving you down; there is hope. And sometimes the love you seek will come from people you’ve never met, showing you your life does in fact matter and things will get better. This song is for Deacon Braun. I hope happiness found you.”

‘Something A Little More Sinister’ was recorded with engineer and producer Roger Swan (K-OS, Battle Axe) to present their first clutch of original songs to showcase to the world. The twelve track album displays a keen awareness of pace and dynamics. Moving deftly from the seething chaos of the eponymous opener to the grandiose and melodic epic of ‘To The Fallen And The Faithful’, and back again for the staccato grunt of ‘Barn Burner’ to finish the record, THIS GUN FOR HIRE leave you in little doubt as to their capabilities.

About:

Taking their name from a demon from Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’, Malacoda’s dark gothic vision is indeed divine but no laughing matter.

As band leader Lucas, who studied Literature and Religion at University explains: ‘Malacoda was the name of a very minor character in the book, a fallen angel who flies around with a small army of demons torturing helpless souls in Hell. From a literary perspective, I found it interesting that he wasn’t merely an evil creature being tortured for his sins, but was given free reign to do what he pleases and takes it upon himself to torture other wicked souls in the spiritual prison that is Dante’s Inferno. I wanted a powerful name that fit not only the sound of the band but also the lyrical themes I touch upon. I wanted something dark, but not something that would be blatantly devilish sounding. The name translates roughly in Italian to ‘Cruel Tail’ and most people don’t see it and think “this band is named after a demon” and see it as something more romantic sounding.’

Like the ‘Inferno’ that inspired their name they forge metal without limits in sonic shapes endless and horrifying in equal measure. Malacoda’s music vision shares much in common with Dante’s, they are unafraid to gaze into the abyss, unafraid to be inspired by the myriad of human horrors within and without. They are not blind to the worlds within them waiting to be born.

Malacoda are about to follow their well-received self-titled debut with the horror-themed ‘Ritualis Aeterna’, which enters this world on December 2, 2016. Festive it most certainly isn’t, magnificent it certainly is. Full of dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century, intelligence and intensity to rival that of their infernal inspirations!

About the duo:

Grant, who plays guitar, bass and synth for the band started his music career 8 ½ years ago at the age of 12, sitting in his basement watching the movie Rock Prophecies. This movie was about legendary rock photographer Robert M. Knight, finding and transforming a young, unknown guitarist from a small town into a worldwide success. Inspired and motivated, Grant spent the next few years honing his guitar skills, writing music, and later learning the business side by attending college for business marketing. At age 20, Grant was invited into the Brotherhood of the Guitar, by founder Robert M. Knight, leading to endorsements with Ernie Ball Music Man and JH Audio.

While Grant was performing with another group at a local battle of the bands, he came across a mesmerizing singer by the name of Kenny Parry (vocalist, drummer and synth for Jupiter Hollow), who was almost performing as if he was possessed on stage, hitting notes that seemed impossible by any guy. Kenny Parry started music at the young age of 2 years old, setting up pots and pans like a drum set and banging away. This led to an obsession with music, and a discovery of his unique talent. In his teenage years, Kenny won himself the title “Best Drummer in Ontario” 3 years in a row. Around this time, Kenny started learning how to sing after being inspired by singers such as Maynard James Keenan, Mike Lessard, Dan Tompkins and Ian Kenny to name a few. Through years of strengthening his vocal abilities in choirs, bands and hours of dedication, Kenny has acquired an articulate vocal range, relentless endurance, and almost shocking performance through his uncontrollable stage presence.

Shortly after meeting, Grant and Kenny knew that their talents combined would create something truly unique, and Jupiter Hollow was born. Since then, the duo effortlessly created music in Kenny’s basement for months on end. The concept grew to be a two-man band, since Grant and Kenny wrote all of the music and wanted to keep it that way. The two musicians use technology to their advantage, allowing them to perform with a dominating stage presence, while captivating their audiences with their unique sonic journey.

“Jupiter Hollow have given the world five songs of progressive brilliance. For such a young duo hailing from Barrie, Ontario they pack a serious punch. They are great musicians and have crafted an amazing voice which touches on a range of progressive cliches but with a twist of more ambient music. Their music shows maturity beyond their age…” – The Independent Voice

“Impossibly young Canadian duo deliver quite a trip. When a prog band emerges with their debut EP and the two people in it are 18 and 21 respectively, you are more than entitled to feel old. When a prog duo emerges with as much talent as Jupiter Hollow you are entitled to feel excited about the future…A band this brimming with ideas will at some point in their careers deliver a masterpiece. This is an incredible start.” – Maximum Volume Music
“New listeners can expect to go on a musical journey when hearing Jupiter Hollow.” – Barrie Advance

“Teen duo Jupiter Hollow deserve props for valuing virtuosity and going against the grain. Rock on!” – Power of Pop

“An adventurous duo that isn’t afraid to experiment with sound as well as influences, which range from Rush to A Perfect Circle to newer Leprous. ” – Lords of Metal

“Jupiter Hollow consists of only two guys; there’s a Grant, and there’s a Kenny. They put all of the music together themselves, and it’s pretty spectacular if you ask me!” – Noah Campbell, Rock 95.7FM (Radio Host)

ARMSTRONG METAL FEST Reveal First Eight Bands For 2017 Line Up

Early Bird Pre-Sale Tickets On Sale Now! Ending Feb 1st

2016 AMF Free Digital Sampler – https://armstrongmetalfest.bandcamp.com/album/armstrong-metalfest-2016-mountain-moshpit-vol-1
(over 90 minutes of headbanging tracks from bands on the 2016 line up)

Delivering a high caliber of Western Canadian and international bands with the glorious backdrop of the Rocky Mountains in the Okanagan valley for the last eight years, Armstrong Metalfest is proud to announce the first eight bands to join the 2017 line up taking place on July 14th and 15th at the Hassen Arena in Armstrong, BC.

Confirmed for the fest are the following:

Odinfist (Armstrong, BC) – http://www.odinfist.bandcamp.com

Hard hitting Viking power thrash, for fans of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Manowar and 3 Inches of Blood. Odinfist has been around the Okanagan Valley for a number of years now and has participated in a variety of major shows in their area including headlining Armstrong Metalfest in 2009 and 2010 along with co-headlining in 2011. They have supported a variety of other bands such as Kataklysm, Thor, 3 Inches of Blood, etc. Odinfist’s latest album, “The Old Lighthouse” is available now!

Eye of Horus (Edmonton, AB) – https://eyeofhorusofficial.bandcamp.com

A Canadian death metal band that hails from the industrious town of Edmonton, Alberta, Eye of Horus profess a global initiative, an industrious work ethic, and a love for their craft. A strict practice regime has shaped their live performance to be a tight, crushingly heavy sound that supports a melodically and vocally engaging performance. The band further draws the audience in with lyrical content ripe with elements of rich, visceral storytelling. But make no mistake, Eye of Horus delivers a death assault that bangs heads and evokes infernal nightmares. Eye of Horus is actively seeking shows and tours to add to their repertoire of accomplished artists such as; Exhumed, 3 Inches of Blood, Dying Fetus, Abiotic, Wretched, Havok, Bermuda, and Goatwhore. The band’s latest EP “Obsidian” is out now.
—–
Gatekeeper (Vancouver, BC) – http://gatekeepervinland.com

Five guardians of true epic heavy metal from the frigid plains of Canadia. Jeff Black formed Gatekeeper in the dismal haze of 2010 as a spitting retort to everything happening on a musical level in the frost-kissed prairies of Alberta. In a land dominated by blast beats, scooped mids and vocalists who couldn’t find a melody in a shopping bag, Gatekeeper stands upright and unchained, continuing the legacy laid down by such luminaries as Robert E. Howard, Bathory, Frank Frazetta, Manowar, Candlemass and Manilla Road. If your interests lie in the direction of things ancient, lost and far away, Gatekeeper might be for you. If not? Good riddance.
—–
Xul (Vernon, BC) – https://xulmetal.bandcamp.com

A five piece group based out of Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, following in the footsteps of bands such as: Behemoth, Dissection, and Immortal, XUL have left the beaten path and set out to forge their own brand of Blackened Death Metal. The band’s latest EP ‘Extinction Necromance’ is out now.
—–
Tales of The Tomb (Edmonton, AB) – https://talesofthetomb.bandcamp.com

Every town has stories to caution or warn, every police officer has a seen a crime that keeps them awake at night, and every coroner has seen death in ways that the rest of us could never imagine. Murder, conspiracy, supernatural horror, and real-life terror are stains on the cutting room floor where Edmonton-based group Tales of The Tomb paints their canvas.  The band has their eyes poised to victimize their audiences anywhere they can reach. Their debut album Volume One: Morphras EP was unleashed on audiences November 27, 2015. This concept album about murder was mixed and mastered by Euro-death metal master Dan Swano (ex-Bloodbath, Unisound) and is just the first of many more sonic crimes to come from Tales of The Tomb.
—–
Aggression (Vancouver, BC) – http://www.rawthomatopokay.com

Aggression, the legendary Canadian thrash metal band, was formed in the spring of 1985 (originally under the moniker “Asylum”), by the 2 guitar shredders Sasquatch and Burn. Rounding out the lineup was Botcher on vocals, Dug on Bass and Gate on drums. After a few demos they recorded “Forgotten Skeleton” in 1986. Unfortunately the album would not see a release until 2005. (Almost 20 years later!) A few lineup changes later, Aggression recorded and released 1987’s The Full Treatment.
They received good reviews for their demos and The Full Treatment, and very quickly became one of the most popular thrash metal bands in Quebec and Canada. Their concerts were sold out everywhere, and the fanbase grew from hundreds to thousands in no time. With his public relations expertise, their manager at the time (Johnny Hart) quickly made Aggression a household name. Other bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Hallow’s Eve, Destruction and others all wanted to see the beast for themselves and meet Aggression while they were in Montreal. Playing numerous concerts with bands such as Anvil, Celtic Frost, Voïvod, Nuclear Assault, Agnostic Front, D.R.I., Possessed, Dark Angel, Crumbsuckers, Sacrifice and others. Due to certain members drug habits and bad decision making the band was all but dead in 1989.
Fast forward to 2005. The 1986 unreleased thrash metal album Forgotten Skeleton gets released and see’s the band reunite at Montreal Metal Massacre fest 2005. Unable to commit to anything more than a few reunion shows it was decided that the band would be put to rest once more. In 2014, now calling Vancouver, BC home, Sasquatch has enlisted help from vocalist Brian Langley (Infernal Majesty), bassist Martin Meyer (Disciples of Power), guitarist Dave Watson (Entropia) and drummer Ryan Idris (ExPain) to breathe new life into Aggression. Since reforming, the band has been playing festivals and touring all over North America and have released  the first brand new, full length album ‘Fragmented Spirit Devils’ in 29 years!

Seraphic Nihilist (Prince George, BC) – https://www.facebook.com/SeraphicNihilist

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 24, 2017

Calgary Music Venue DISTORTION Celebrates 10th Anniversary

A prominent Calgary multi-genre music venue is celebrating its 10th year supporting the local music community on February 11th with a huge line up of well-known local bands. Among them are legendary Calgary punk act BDFM with Distortion co-owner Mark Russell on drums.

Saturday, February 11, Distortion invites everyone to join them in celebrating 10 years, 4 bars, and countless good times as an integral part of local Calgary music scene. The anniversary show consists of 8 bands including; Exit Strategy, Hypnopilot, Bloated Pig, Caveat, The Press Gang, Conniving Cadavers, and No More Moments. Headlining the massive bill, back for one more show, are old school local legends BDFM. As well, in partnership with Long & McQuade, there will be a second stage with contortionists, freak shows, a positive rap battle & acoustic acts: Franky Frog Liquor, and Dylan Wolfspider. The D crew is looking forward to celebrating 10 years of helping the music community to flourish and continuing for (at least) 10 more.

Doors for the show open are 6pm and the festivities will go until 2 am. There will be surprises, drink specials, old memories shared and new ones created. Distortion is located at 3828 Macleod Trails S. Tickets are $20 and are available from the bar in advance or at https://www.myshowpass.com/distortion-the-d-the-distillery-10-year-anniversar/

Bio:

On February 12th 2007, a scene was born when an intrepid group of music lovers took over The Distillery Public House in downtown Calgary, AB. They catered to a diverse crowd serving lunch and dinner and at night having tight, intimate live music shows. Some of the big names that graced the stage included The Real McKenzies, Del the Funky Homosapian, Dayglo Abortions, D.O.A., The Vibrators, UK Subs, always supported by talented local bands.

After the lease was up, it was on to bigger and better things when they moved into an old theatre, The Distillery Rock n Roll Ballroom had arrived. One of the most legendary venues to make its mark on the Calgary music community, the ballroom hosted all genres with artists like Bone Thugs n’ Harmony, The Bronx, Mad Caddies, and Sticky Buds. The D crew had built up an infectious momentum, creating a highly desired place to play, and flooding the scene with high quality shows. Unfortunately the carpet was suddenly swept out from underneath them in 2012 and the crew had to seek out new digs.

Losing such an iconic venue was a massive detriment to the entire city, as it affected many genres, promoters, artists and fans. The group soldiered on and ended up in Eau Claire in their third venue. Unfortunately, that venture was short lived. It seemed like it was the end, and the community tried to rebuild itself working with the other local venues, opening new ones, seeing others shut down. Unbeknownst to the public at large, the D crew still wasn’t done. After a year, on May 1 2015, the announcement was made that a fourth venue had been found. After a few coats of paint and the posting of the famous bathroom rules, the rebranded Distortion – Live Music Venue was opened. Continuing to host local talent and bringing in big headliners like Blessthefall, SNFU, The Exalted Piledriver, and Stylist Beats, Distortion is the next chapter in the team’s journey to nurture the live music community.
