Band Submissions Now Open For Calgary’s DECIMATE METALFEST

DECIMATE METALFEST is the brainchild of Sloan Voxx of Voxx Promotions, which is destined to become an annual Canadian metal pilgrimage to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. With the many yearly festivals becoming part of the national metal heritage, Sloan wants DECIMATE METALFEST to become one of the best-known events alongside the various festivals located within Alberta, and Western Canada. With Voxx Promos booking and promotional experience, and the support of metalheads internationally, there is nothing to stop them from reaching their goal of bringing in the masses and putting on incredible metal festivals for years to come!

Voxx Promos was the head promoter for Canada’s Extreme Metal Radio’s CEMR Metalfest in 2017 (https://www.facebook.com/events/222522428193641/), which showcased a killer line up of Western Canada’s up and coming metal bands such as Terrifier, Planet Eater, Display of Decay, W.M.D, Vile Insignia, Path to Extinction, Tessitura, Anarcheon, Kelevra, Train Bigger Monkeys, Ye Goat-Herd Gods, Detherous, Juliet Ruin, Augurium, Anti-Pattern, Forsaken Rite, Graveyard Nemesis and Benevolent Like Quietus.

DECIMATE METALFEST promises to be bigger and better than the executed festival next year and its pending lineup will certainly not disappoint.

Festival organizer Sloan Voxx comments:

“We are so excited to be embarking on the adventure of starting our very own Metal Festival! We’ve been very fortunate to have worked with so many incredible people and bands in the past and we value them so much. What better way to spend a weekend than to bring them all together for 3 days of epic music and entertainment! DECIMATE METALFEST will take place June 7th, 8th and 9th, 2018 at the Nite Owl (213 10 Ave SW) in Calgary, Alberta.

DECIMATE METALFEST encourages any bands interested in performing at the fest to apply.

The submission deadline is October 31, 2017.

Toronto-based metal messiahs DECATUR will be unleashing their debut album “Badder Than Brooklyn” produced by Joe Duplantier of Gojira on October 6th, 2017. Named after their very own street of dreams in New York, where they recorded their debut album at Silvercord Studios in Brooklyn, DECATUR get their unique sound by being opened-minded, not just to each other in this band of brothers, but to different genres, not just of metal, but also the blues, rock ‘n’ roll and even pop. DECATUR’s criteria if it’s good, they can make it better! They focus on evolution not devolution. There is no fear of DECATUR repeating themselves musically; for them…the world is not enough. They see themselves as intrepid explorers, never playing it safe, always looking for new lands to conquer, and in the process drawing on creative powers they never knew they possessed.

Their debut album is all-killer, no filler! It doesn’t hide behind its production; it compliments it. These are truly songs of power and empowerment, a clarion call for strength in life’s battles…healing through headbanging. From the power shredding of “Into The Night” and the storytelling of the album’s title track “Badder Than Brooklyn” to the brutal beat down of songs like “Bottled Inside” and “Internal War”, DECATUR feel modern metal has lost its way and they’re here to provide the roadmap forward to the future!

Teaming up with PureGrainAudio, DECATUR are premiering their second single “Internal War”, a track written about fighting mental illness.

Vocalist and guitarist Jay “Beard” Sarrazin explains:

“This song represents the internal struggle that you go through to conquer mental illness. It’s an issue I have struggled with for my whole life. But I have struggled with it internally. Only recently has it become a discussion in the public eye. The more you talk about it, the more people you realize struggle with it and struggle with it alone. So this song represents that internal battle you go through daily. It’s a lonely war and that may be the hardest part about mental illness. But we are not alone. This song is to shed light on the fact that there are others that struggle.”

Unleashing their third studio album “Vertigo” in Europe last December via Rockshot Records, Italian symphonic metallers Sound Storm announce it will now be available in North America officially on October 13th. “Vertigo” was produced in the Netherlands at Sandlane Recording Facilities with Joost Van Den Broek (Epica, Ayreon, Xandria) and is something more than a metal album, the music has a cinematic purpose. The overall concept of “Vertigo” is a Victorian – steam punk story, firstly based on Dante’s Inferno idea and then developed to a more psychological/introspective tale. Gabriel is the main character of the story, an unsuccessful composer who becomes a scientist, starting a war against his troubled mind and forcing himself to destroy everything beloved. The only handhold seems to be a mystic dragonfly, leading Gabriel among the floors of a huge spiral staircase.

In additional news, those in Europe will be able to see Sound Storm‘s live musical as the band enjoys a massive use of cinematic elements (video, fireworks, pyros, led lights etc) to transform their fiction into reality.

Assembled in 2003 to infiltrate, build and destroy, Gatineau, QC’s INSURRECTION is an aural onslaught assaulting witnesses in both languages of French and English. The video is for their new fist pumping stage diving single “Feed It” that is slated to be on HELLBROS‘ upcoming album “Take The Animal” that they will be hitting the studio in November to record and plan to release in 2018. “Take The Animal” will be the follow up to their 2016 self-titled album debut on French label Bad Reputation, which was a compilation of their two previous self-releases, 2011’s full length album ‘Good Time Machine’ and their 2015 EP ‘Calling All Giants’.

Straight outta Canada’s capital, Ottawa Ontario, Hellbros are anything but a bunch of latte sipping civil servants. Instead they spend their time crafting loud, belligerent rock n roll with heaps of attitude. Brothers Peter Jurt (vocals, guitar) & Christian Jurt (guitar) along with childhood friends Josh Roy (drums, vocals) and Mat ‘Spag’ Collins (bass, vocals) create the high-energy quartet that blast out “loud, wild and heavy, excellent stuff as you’d like to point your bucket of beer to the sky while screaming and shouting alongside brothers and sisters during a nightly wild party” – Metal To Infinity

2015 began a great year for the Hellbros, they signed with Bad Reputation Records (Fr) and released their 3rd album, ‘Self Titled’, on September 15th in Europe. A follow up to their debut full length album ‘Goodtime Machine’, which took home the fan voted best rock/hard rock album of the year in the 2012 Independent Music Awards. They once again teamed up with engineer and co-producer Dean Hadjichristou and mixer Riccardo ‘Paso’ Pasini for this album.

November 2015 Hellbros released an unofficial anthem during the Grey Cup week for the Ottawa Redblacks CFL football team. The song entitled, “We’re All Redblacks” was debuted on TSN1200 radio. “Pretty strong effort!, well sung, well performed.” – JR TGOR Show The song was also picked up by Ottawa’s Classic Rock station Chez 106.1 – “Hellbros getting us all in the mood for the Ottawa Redblacks game!” – Woody (Chez 106)

In June 2016, Hellbros headed overseas for a run of shows in Europe that brought them to Belgium, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany and the Netherlands. Just like Hellbros latest album their shows will start off with a “hardrock-like ‘heeeeeell yeaaah!’” and just like it does on their album it will set the tone for the rest of the show. The kings of comedy rock PSYCHOSTICK announce they will be embarking on “The Veloci-Turkey-Saurus Rex Tour” presented by Zildjian with support from Arsonists Get All The Girls (on select dates), Kissing Candice and Raven Black. The tour will kick off in St. Louis, MO on November 2nd and wrap up in Pittsburgh, PA on December 9th. The band of jokesters have been busy writing new material to exclusively share with fans on this tour to follow their 2014 treasure “Revenge of The Vengeance” that featured tracks of comedy genius such as “Obey The Beard”, “Dogs Like Socks”, “Quack Kills”, “Bruce Campbell” (a tribute to the 21st century’s most beloved action hero), “NSFW” featuring Bill Manspeaker (founder of Green Jellÿ) plus a spoof cover of Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” among many more.

“Although Zildjian is nearly a 400-year-old company, Alex from Psychostick has not been playing its cymbals exclusively for quite that long (just for the past 10), we are extremely excited that they are sponsoring the tour to celebrate his 10-year anniversary as an endorser. The line up for this tour pretty cool, it’s a great mix and each band offers something memorable. I’d love to watch this show as a fan without all those “got-a-show-to-play” responsibilities. This past Sunday, September 24th, the YYCMA‘s held their 2nd annual gala at The Palace Theatre to honour artists in 19 categories along with performances from nominees Britt Walchuk (nominated for Blues Recording of the Year), Poke The Bear (nominated for Zackariah and the Prophets Memorial Award), Citysleep (nominated for DJ/Electronic Recording of the Year, Winner of Group of the Year), Amy Hef (nominated for Alternative Recording of the Year, Winner of Female Artist of the Year) and Locomotive Ghost (nominated for Group of the Year, Pop Recording of the Year, Roots/Folk Recording of the Year, Single of the Year). The album follows their three past releases “Unmerciful” (EP) (2016), “Warhead” (2013), and self-titled EP (2011) that have captivated and reinforced their stronghold on a global level.
