NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 11, 2018

For fans of Stone Temple Pilots, Deftones, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden

SHOVELHEAD Celebrate 10 Year Anniversary of “Arson & Lace” Album With New Video “Big Time Loser” via SpaceUntravel

L to R – Alex Rakic (Bass), Youri Targiroff (Lead Guitar), Marko Rakic (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Nikola Rakic (Drums)

A family affair comprised of the Rakic brothers, Marko (vocals, guitar), Alex (bass), Nikola (drums) along with their long time childhood friend Youri Targiroff on lead guitar, Montreal’s SHOVELHEAD have been offering sonic gems that are simply irresistible since forming in 1995.  Having toured Eastern Canada to garnering praise on the local scene to living their dreams in Southern California and back to their hometown, SHOVELHEAD has always been unstoppable with their bone crushing heavy rock to their subdued ballads.

Serenading with melodic vocal lines and a signature guitar style, the alternative rock quartet have released three full lengths Pocus Cadabra (1996), Dark Horse (1999), Arson and Lace (2007). Now after a 10 year hiatus from recording, they return in 2018 with an anniversary video “Big Time Loser” for “Arson and Lace” plus are currently working on their planned fourth full length entitled “Killer Waves”, which will be recorded once again with award winning producer/engineer/mixer Glen Robinson who has worked with names such as The Ramones, AC/DC, GWAR, Annihilator and Voivod.

Watch “Big Time Loser” via SpaceUntravel at the following link:

The band comments:

“Lyrically the song is about hope and failure. It’s about the hopefulness of youth and blind ambition followed by the reality of limitations, life and failure. It’s about setting out goals that ultimately never come to fruition and looking back at them in perspective. The reality of failure is difficult to accept and equally difficult to let go of the hope. Overall, the video is an artistic rendition of the emotions of the song. It’s in black and white to define the absolute between the hope and the failure. Not intended to be literal, but more so to emote the feelings of the song.”

SHOVELHEAD‘s latest album “Arson and Lace” plus previous releases available on www.shovelheadmusic.com, CD Baby, iTunes and all other major online retailers.

A Heavy Brew of Blackened Stoner Psych
Montreal’s WYKAN Premiere
“The Gathering” via NoCleanSinging

Debut EP “Solace” Out April 13th
Featuring Guest Vocals
Matt McGachy (Cryptopsy) & Barrie Butler (Eohum)

L-R – Bass : Daniel Paras – Bass, Jeremy Perkins – Vocals and Guitars, Morgan Zwicker – Drums

Founded in 2017 by guitarist/singer Jeremy Perkins (Eohum), Montreal’s trio WYKAN delivers a heavy brew with its touch of black metal, old stoner / psychedelic rock and blues. Blending these genres, the band evokes spirits of heavy riffs and hot amp tubes overridden and pushed to the limits soon to be heard on their debut EP “SOLACE” due out on April 13th.

“After releasing very heavy black metal for 3+ yrs with my band Eohum, I wanted to return to blues and doom oriented music and expression, with atmosphere, blues solos and more feeling. Both Morgan Zwicker (drums) and Daniel Paras (bass) are distinct musicians / vocalists with jazz/blues backgrounds whom had the will to jump on board.” says band founder Jeremy Perkins.

Hitting the jam space and recruiting some special guests Matt McGachy (Cryptopsy) and Barrie Butler (Eohum), WYKAN‘s debut EP “Solace” features three punishing tracks full of atmosphere and mystery where you can hear black metal rage meet the finest components of blues and harsh psych stoner riffs. The theme of the EP follows inspiration of Ethnobotany and magic along with a tribal take on ritual and ceremony. More specifically with the Northern European Tribes known as the Saami from Finland/Norway/Sweden areas of today and their usage of Amanita Muscaria mushroom for Shamanic practices. Overall, the EPs concept is a reminder of the brisk realities of our lives in relation to the spirit world.

Teaming up with NoCleanSinging, WYKAN are premiering their next single “The Gatherin” featuring guest vocals from Eohum‘s Barrie Butler.

Band founder Jeremy Perkins comments:

“Is a poetic/fictional poem/story which  ( would have taken place) when the Saami’s lands where colonized, told from generation to generation among the Sammi people speaking of the new schools of thought hitting their lands during Gatherings. A reminding piece of literature to not forget their cultures relation with the Amanita.”

“an impressive debut, with enough hooks to catch ears wherever it gets play. So grab yourself a copy, turn it up, and consume some mean doom.” – The Burning Beard

“A strange and bewildering piece of psychedelic doom metal, inspired by both old school doom and black metal, this debut by Canadian act Wykan is certainly something special. ” – Merchants of Air

“Montreal riff metallers Wykan make their debut April 13 with the SolaceEP. It is not intended for background listening. Even at three tracks/24 minutes, it’s not the kind of thing you “just put on” while you’re picking up around the house or working or whatever you might be doing. It demands attention and demands it early.”

“Striker gush with so much enthusiasm here, with explosive riffs swirling between the vibrant harmonies and choruses, that it’s hard not to notice…Tracks like “Former Glory” and “Born to Lose” are anthemic, catchy as hell and feature soaring vocals from Dan Cleary and terrific guitar work by Tim Brown…On Striker, the band take a host of influences and hone them into a sound they can call their own.” – Exclaim!

“From the first storm-summoning power chord on the opener Former Glory, Striker (CAN) proves their new album’s initial claim of not dwelling on the past, a high and appropriate cry of “Yeah, I’m back again!”… If you haven’t witnessed this inspiring resurrection of classic metal, the band plays Friday, April 14 at Starlite with Ravenous and Tylor Dory Trio, no doubt sharpened from the faithful overseas audiences.” – Edmonton Journal

“When a band releases an eponymous album it’s a statement of intent, a sign of confidence, everything being as it should be. For make no mistake, Striker are a special band. As the old Metal Gods ascend to Valhalla, new gods will arise. This is Striker’s fifth album and it’s just timeless. Not retro, not looking back, but taking everything that’s uplifting and glorious about heavy metal into 2017 and beyond…this album has to be in every writer and fan’s top ten at the end of 2017.” – Hellbound

“A less balls out, more aggressive record than its predecessor, STRIKER delivers another impressive collection of high energy headbangers….Regardless of what your heavy metal predilections may be, STRIKER offers something for everyone. Super catchy tunes dripping with shred gymnastics and all around technical prowess, Striker deserves a place on any metal fan’s playlist….If you have not experienced Striker yet, this album is a worthy place to start and should appeal to a wide range of fans, particularly followers of the Priest, Anthrax and Maiden.” – Metal Rules

“The Last Arbiter” Album summary:

The sky ghost, the wayfarer, the shadow of time, the exile; he is called by many names yet for the Immortal, he is cursed to traverse the cosmos aimlessly, searching for an unattainable purpose. Chained to him is a beast, a demon from antiquity who the immortal keeps as a reminder of his past.

Upon the corridors of the Tymeer capitol the immortal presents his seemingly profound doctrine called the “Compendium of Ethical Symbiosis” which outlines a harmonious way of governing and regulating the various civilizations under the ruling regime through casting down warmonger ideologies and laws which degrade the value of its species.

Though momentarily entertained, the ruling counsel of Tymeer dismisses the wisdom of the wayfarer. Passing through the city gates tired and morally degraded, the immortal along with his insidiously chained demon wanders into the wastelands of Tymeer. It is here that his journey begins

Tres Thomas – Photo Credit: Kirsten Robinson

Few bands’ music has ever lived up to their name as much as Tres Thomas’ superb instrumental project INFINITEE; for theirs is an infinity of sounds, a universe of music waiting to be discovered.

Yet there is no self-indulgence, the song is always served. Combining the cranium crunch of Metallica and the progressive flights of fancy of Mastodon, INFINITEE are a truly special act.

Tres Thomas is also guitarist of Tales Of The Tomb. He formed INFINITEE in 2016. It quickly became its own iconoclastic beast, forging its own musical path. Debut album “The Possibilities Are Endless” is only the starting point, INFINITEE have the potential to become huge. Tres explains “the band has somehow evolved its way into the band it is today.”

Inspired by My Chemical Romance, Dance Gavin Dance, Plini, Modern Day Babylon, The Contortionist, Tres describes INFINITEE’s sound as djenty, heavy, dynamic, melodic and progressive.

Stoked for fans to hear INFINITEE’s debut album, Tres comments:

“It will definitely be different! However, the title track ‘The Possibilities Are Endless’ leaves all sorts of possibilities open…no pun intended! Tracks like ‘Xenocybin’, ‘Lost’ and the title track are more metal and conventional with their instrumentation. Tracks like ‘Robots Vs The Wooden Chairs Part 1 and 2 are more influenced by EDM, which has sparked the interest of people who aren’t really a fan of metal or djent, but appreciate the more electronic elements of music. This is basically a battle of robots (electronic made sounds) and the wooden chairs (guitars, bass, drums) that are wooden and made and played by humans!”

Teaming up with PureGrainAudio, INFINITEE are offering fans an exclusive free download of “Robots vs. The Wooden Chairs Pt.2”

“This track is part of the EDM inspired section of the album. This is basically a battle of robots (electronic made sounds) and the wooden chairs (guitars, bass drums, instruments that are wooden and made/ played by humans).” says Tres.

Download it now at http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/infinitee-robots-vs-the-wooden-chairs-pt-2-free-song-download

Fans who will enjoy “The Possibilities Are Endless” when it’s released will also be delighted to know that the possibilities of new music from INFINITEE are also endless as Tres says he has more music to come!

“I have another album ready to record, and I am working on my third. Anything is possible…expect anything!”

Unleashing their debut album “Badder Than Brooklyn” produced by Joe Duplantier of Gojira during October of last year along with a lengthy tour across Canada, Toronto-based metal messiahs DECATUR are kicking off 2018 with the premiere of their new video “Worst Enemy” on Bravewords. The video is a message from the band to conquer the fight against depression and follows the album’s songs of power and empowerment, a clarion call for strength in life’s battles…healing through headbanging.

Vocalist / guitarist Jay Sarrazin comments:

“Worst Enemy was actually the first song I wrote for this album. I was at a pretty dark place in my life at the time. I was struggling with depression and anxiety and was constantly berating myself with negativity. I felt trapped in a box so to speak and I became my own worst enemy. That’s what the song is about and the music video we made emphasizes that emotion of being trapped in that box or in your own head saying all these things to yourself. Throughout the years I have learned to find more coping methods and I am always learning more about myself. Hopefully this song helps other knows they are not alone and to seek help if they need it.”

DECATUR is comprised of Jay “Beard” Sarrazin (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Tiny Basstank (Bass/Backup Vocals), Steve “Animal” Mitchell (Drums/ Backup Vocals), and Liam Maguire (Guitar/Backup Vocals) have sensed the hunger from metal fans for proper metal with real songs, music built on the foundations of the past to last far into the future. Make no mistake, DECATUR are a band that puts the grit into integrity, as guitarist/vocalist Jay ‘Beard’ Sarrazin says, DECATUR make “real metal for real metalheads.”

– 30 –

“Badder Than Brooklyn is one of those wonderful albums that will give you little to complain about…one of the best heavy metal releases this year. Shatterproof & Internal War Pt. 2 confirm this with the former a very traditional & groove-layered slab while the latter goes for a more melodic approach.” Games, Brrrains & A Head-Banging Life

“Badder Than Brooklyn is a solid debut album of modern metal that’s worth seeking out.” – Heavy Metal HQ

“Great for a pounding run or a body-wrecking workout, Badder Than Brooklyn will satisfy fans of metal, hard rock, or good old-fashioned rock and roll.” – Shockwave Mag

“The energy in the room was electrifying, and it was impossible not to mosh and head bang with intense vigour. The band’s connection on stage was infectious, as it was obvious that these guys loved what they were doing and loved doing it together.” – The Phoenix News – Live Review – Kelowna, BC

“Badder Than Brooklyn is a formidable effort by these talented newcomers. Considering the fact that this is their debut album, I most certainly think that they have nailed it. With memorable and we’ll crafted songwriting, if these guys keep up their work I see a bright future ahead if them. Undoubtedly an album that I will recommend for all Thrash/Groove Metal enthusiasts. That being said I hope they will come back even stronger in their sophomore effort for which I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled.” – Metal Centre

“Toronto-based Decatur, with their debut release Badder Than Brooklyn, has created a metal album for metal’s sake, a traditionally fast, heavy riffing, drivingly intense set of tunes to be included on an FM radio station in the next installment of Grand Theft Auto playing between Megadeth’s “Holy War…The Punishment Due”, Metallica’s “Battery”, and right after Pantera’s “Walk”.” – Canadian Beats

“The ten track album is an eclectic powerhouse. ” Groove Talk Podcast

“Intense riffing, heavy drum beats, melodic hooks and dark vocals are what the listener gets offered” – Obliveon.de

Consisting of Nick Sauter on guitars, Jon Kal on bass, Josh Masterson on vocals and Dylan Waybrant on drums, FALLEN LEGION is inspired by an eclectic metal brigade of Gojira, Korn, Iron Maiden, Dethlok and Antonio Vivaldi for a sound best described as “energetic, unorthodox, progressive, spirited, and memorable”.

Their forthcoming EP is “the journey of a downfall. Going from stable to unbound and the choices that come with the calamity. The single embraces the human struggle and highlights the importance of hope. The EP is about dealing with stress- mortal blows, drugs, thoughts of suicide, the inner struggle, and the wrath of it all. The EP represents the outcome of painful experiences. Songs like ‘Escapegoat’ deal with not being able to handle the consequences of one’s actions and pushing them onto those weaker than yourself.”, and ‘Monster Reborn’-about letting the guilt build up inside, trapping one within their own mental anguish.”

Teaming up with PureGrainAudio.com, FALLEN LEGION are looking for the “Way Out” with the premiere of their first single. Check it out! http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/fallen-legion-unveil-a-way-out-single-stream-off-their-downfall-ep-exclusive-premiere

“Downfall” will be available on May 18th, 2018 for download on all major online retailers along with CD pre-order on the band’s official website here.

Created by Andrew James of Edmonton, AB’s Eye of Horus and Shotgunner, his new project, one man folk metal band NORTH HAMMER is drawing inspiration from the mighty Quorthon; for Andrew is not so much a one-man band as a one-warrior metal machine. Andrew wrote and recorded the guitar, bass, vocals, and orchestration along with drums done by Doug Helcaraxë Nunez for NORTH HAMMER’s debut album “Stormcaller” recently unleashed on March 16th, 2018.

Inspired by Wintersun, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Aether Realm, Blind Guardian, “Stormcaller” is a 21st century continuation of the work of Norse bards with its melodic death metal folk riffs.

“Stormcaller has been quite an adventure in itself to record, many aspects of music I had never even attempted before. From the creation of an over-arching narrative to satisfy lyric content, to writing guitar solos and orchestration, I finally have been able to come out with something that I am so excited to share with you! The experience I’m trying to give the listeners is that of a fellow fan. I want people to be euphoric for other bands that mean something to them like Ensiferum, Wintersun and Amon Amarth. To connect personally with my music and realize that I love and worship these bands.” explains Andrew James.

Teaming up with MetalUnderground.com, NORTH HAMMER is premiering their new video for “Tip of The Spear”http://www.metalunderground.com/news/details.cfm?newsid=139729

Andrew James adds:

“Tip of the Spear is a fight song. The hero heads to a mountain peak rumoured to house an ancient celestial that can provide him with godlike powers that can help him defeat the bestial horde. However, a camp of these foul beasts lay in his path. The hero and his brother’s in arms lead their cavalry to a surprise attack in order to eradicate the menace.”

Album order for NORTH HAMMER’s “Stormcaller” available via Bandcamp here.

While NORTH HAMMER is a studio project at the moment, Andrew James plans to put together a band of top-notch like-minded musicians for touring in Western Canada and beyond.

2. Wanderer (3:42)

“Canadian outfit North Hammer bring Norse folk influences to melodic death metal on their debut album, Stormcaller. The creation of one Andrew James, Stormcaller takes influence from the likes of Amon Amarth: aggressive and powerful, yet jubilant.”

“The hard-charging melodic death metal of this song is itself heroic in its atmosphere, its darting, folk-influenced riffs, galloping rhythms, fiery soloing, and soaring keyboard melodies summoning mythic images of striving and triumph. While its musical antecedents are indeed clearly identifiable, it’s nonetheless a pulse-pounding, heart-swelling track, and one that proves to be very catchy as well.” – No Clean Singing

“Andrew James’ one-man project from Edmonton, North Hammer enters the heavy metal fray with the crushing debut “Stormcaller.” Especially for a first release, this album is intense, heavy and filled with high quality Ensiferum worship riffage. But North Hammer is not just a clone or a tribute, the sound of the band is clearly defined within the first few tracks and continues to develop and surprise throughout the album.” – CROM Metal

““Wanderer” begins with a Bathory-esque chorus in front of tender acoustics to further exploding into melodeath territories. Riffing comes and go in form of a melody that interwines the next segments of the track, which concludes with a great solo and a nice double bass storm. The composition is dynamic and moving enough, thanks to the mix of the Quorthon worship and the swinging melodic death metal influences.” – Toilet Ov Hell

“Metalheads who are down with the likes of Wintersun, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Aether Realm, and/or Blind Guardian should find something to like here.” – PureGrainAudio

“Before you can gather your senses the battle finishes and leaves you bloody, but grinning from ear to ear. NORTH HAMMER have released a blend of catchy folk, death and black metal which will appeal to fans of various extreme metal. The song writing and musicianship on ‘Stormcaller’ is unquestionable and this is a very promising start for NORTH HAMMER and one I hope they can build on for future releases?” – All About The Rock

“what really stands out in Stormcaller are the riffs. Andrew James pulls of some stellar work here, catchy & exciting with each song standing strongly on its own. The blend of folk melody & heavier death-metal sounds great.” – Games Brains & A Head Banging Life

“North Hammer hit all the right notes with ‘Stormcaller’, a strong and swift record full of great tracks and it leaves you invigorating and ready for anything. A record for axe swinging, mead swilling and blood spilling, ‘Stormcaller’ is one of the most fun and fist pumping records you’ll hear this year.” – The Killchain

“For a debut, this is an outstanding album that is full of ferocity. It is fast and loud. You can imagine the headbanging that would go on at one of their shows.” – Baby Dolls And Razor Blades

“Stormcaller is a great Viking metal record made all the more impressive considering it was largely written and performed by just one man. It may not push the boat out, but fans of Amon Amarth will enjoy it a lot.” – Toby Saunders’ Rad Reviews

“I can’t even try and place Within the Giant’s Reach into any genre as they seem to cover most genres in one track. There are elements of Thrash, Death, Death-core, Hardcore and Tech Death. How it is possible to manage this in one track is beyond my imagination. If their forthcoming EP is anything like this track, then I am sure that Within the Giant’s Reach will find themselves a lot of new fans across the globe.”  – The Metal Review
