High-energy Canadian rock band Prisoner announces it will be hitting the road across British Columbia and Alberta (dates listed below) this coming May and June. Entitled “Kill The King Tour”, the show dates will be in support of their follow-up album to be released in June 2025 to their 2024 EP “House of Cards”. Album details will revealed at later date.

“We can not wait to share what we have been working on this past year. Getting out on the road and sharing experiences with the music community is a privilege we are lucky to have. Expect to hear most of our new record set to release in June and keep an ear out for more dates being added for later this summer! Every artist says this, but this album is our best work to date, and it will prove we are here to stay,” adds Murray Emery (guitar/vocals).

Bringing you hard-hitting riffs and unmistakably tight grooves, Prisoner‘s latest EP is a conglomeration of music with multiple elements from varying sub-genres. It bridges the gap between emotion and life experience to truly connect music to the individual. With its anthemic themes, fast riffs, and glassy acoustic guitar, each song offers something different for your casual rock fan to die-hard thrash headbanger.

Prisoner‘s dedication to their craft is evident in their unparalleled stage presence and their commitment to engaging with their audience. The band thrives on crowd interaction and creating an electric atmosphere at their shows. Off stage, they value connecting with fans and being part of the rock community. They are recommended for fans of AC/DC, Judas Priest, Godsmack, and Metallica.

“Can you guess what Metallica’s “Garage Days Re-revisited”, Trivium’s “Ember to Inferno” and Pantera’s “Cowboys from Hell” records have in common? A band having fun, a band giving it all out and a great and present bass guitar. This is what you will get when listening to “House of Cards” the new EP from the Canadian band Prisoner, formed in 2020 in Alberta by four young men on a mission to make Metal even bigger. The EP is formed by three songs and just under eleven minutes of playtime which is enough to show how fucking good they are! 9/10” – Ever-Metal

“And we’ve added the outstanding new single “On A Sunday” from heavy rockers Prisoner! Elements of alternative rock & metal with a twist of modern rock. So well written with acoustic passages leading up to the electric payoff, “On A Sunday” is a special one. Be sure to catch Prisoner on your Home for the Best New Rock.” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll

“A testament to their musical prowess and diverse range as artists, Prisoner adeptly captures both their high-energy and introspective moments in House of Cards.” – Amplify The Noise

“”House of Cards” did what an EP is supposed to do and that’s whet my appetite for more music from Prisoner. I look forward to their forthcoming full-length album and to hearing what else than do with,” – Rough Edge

“The Devil sends his beast with wrath, for he knows that time is short. Or something. That might be why Calgary metallers Prisoner have followed up their January debut full-length with this EP. And the Maiden reference at the start might have done them a disservice, actually, given that the trio of tracks showcases different sides than that. The opener, “Skies Are Blackened,” is full-on thrash. Think early Metallica, and you aren’t far off, but the next one, “On A Sunday,” couldn’t be more different. Acoustic in the way that Alice In Chains used to be, it’s a fabulous thing. And all of that is before “House Of Cards (The Game PT 2)” hustles into view on the back of quite a mighty gallop. A band to look for, you evidently will not chain Prisoner. 8/10” – Maximum Volume Music

“The Canadian band set out to return to their heavy rock roots, and by the sound of things they have very much done just that. This thing is like Prong but with punk vocals over the top, like the really early days of thrash or crossover. The production fits perfectly with the old-school feel too, feeling like it’s ripped right out of the 80s. The vocals really grew on me throughout, him being able to hit some damn impressive high notes! This thing honestly felt like it was too short, I’d love to have had more from them. Especially with the variety shown between the three tracks. Heck, the slower track, ‘On a Sunday’, is my favourite track on the EP, though the other two are close second and third. I somehow missed the band’s album back in January, but I’mma have to go back and check it out now, as I loved this! 8/10” – Overtone Magazine

FROGG Display Technical Metal Wizardry In New Animated Video “Interspecific Hybrid Species”

Debut Album “Eclipse” Out Now!

Co-Produced by Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist, Scale the Summit)

L-R: Will Brown (Drums) | Sky Moon Clark (Vocals & Guitar) | Brett Fairchild (Guitar) | Ethan Emery (Bass)

Unelashing their technical modern metal marvel, the debut album “Eclipse” this past March, New York’s FROGG is exhibiting their new animated music video “Interspecific Hybrid Species” in support of the record, co-produced by guitarist/vocalist Sky Moon Clark and Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist, Scale the Summit).

Full of proggy goodness, the track has a strong message about climate change coming for us all.

“Interspecific Hybrid Species is an intensely proggy, mind-bending epic that weaves intricate chaos with relentless precision, delivering a whirlwind of technical wizardry and amphibious fury,” adds the band.

Watch and listen to the music video “Interspecific Hybrid Species” via its premiere on HeavyBlogIsHeavy HERE.

Frogg‘s first full-length features ten tracks of heavy, raw, progressive, death, and avant-garde thinking metal. Fans who have been following Frogg since their conception will find exactly what they signed up for, along with lots of fun surprises. The band doesn’t operate in one genre all the time, and “Eclipse” is set to wonder.

“A sonic eclipse where every genre collides—progressive, technical, and just enough death to keep your neck sore for weeks,” adds bassist Ethan Emery.

Lyrically, the record explores Mythology from various places, along with tying tales and emotions together. Fans can expect seasonal singles from Frogg going forward as they already have plans for follow-up singles to come real soon after the album’s release.

FROGG’s main ambition is to hit the live circuit with a perfected performance and its brand-new line-up. With performance in mind, FROGG has been relentlessly rehearsing new original material and old, to deliver an authentic live experience.

Committed to technical excellence and progressive innovation, Frogg is recommended for fans of weird and wild and fans who appreciate bands such as Protest the Hero, Between the Buried and Me, Zenith Passage, Unexpect, and Obscura.

“Eclipse” was released on March 7, 2025, and is available at https://froggofficial.bandcamp.com.

“Weirdo avant-garde metal band Frogg have jut shared a video for “Double Vision Roll,” and, boy, is it quirky. If you’re not yet familiar with Frogg, they are all about delivering a weird and wonderful live experience They experiment with different world instruments and songwriting ideas, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in heavy music, and you can see a little bit of that on display here. The song was produced by Frogg guitarist/vocalist Sky Moon Clark and Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist, Scale the Summit). Frogg are recommended for fans of weird and wild, as well as those who appreciate a little technicality in their music.” – Decibel Magazine (2025 – Eclipse)

“After a few years of one-off singles and an EP this stellar prog project is finally gifting us with a full record. This includes some wild guitar work, breakneck shifts in tone, and is just a great time overall. This is recommended if you like BtBaM, Last Chance To Reason, etc.” – Metal Injection (2025 – Eclipse)

“The band is immensely talented, and their musicianship registers off the charts… This is an album that every Metalhead should hear, for the technical brilliance alone. 8/10” – Metal-Temple (2025 – Eclipse)

“Their musical style is a kaleidoscope of genres, with a real melting pot of influences… there is no denying that there is a lot of talent on show here. There is obviously a desire to produce something unusual and it will be interesting to see where they go from here. 8/10” – The Prog Space (2025 – Eclipse)

“Its extreme dedication to complex construction will pose an issue to the unprepared—digesting this kind of technicality-positioned music is never effortless. The volume of riffage, the speed of every rollicking bar, the force of every abundant fill present loaded and crooked in smile, though the shorter-form execution lowers the threshold for repeated exposure. In a rose-colored vision of what progressive death metal can be, Frogg finds a freedom in fanciful melody, brief poppy breaks, and unrestrained (but not all encompassing) musical showmanship. And if a debut can unwrap as fresh as Eclipse does, Frogg may very well find the world entrapped in their sticky wiles. 3.5/5” – Angry Metal Guy (2025 – Eclipse)

“It’s no secret that amphibians aren’t doing so hot as a class; Frogg‘s eclectic tech is a welcome consolation prize amidst this eroding diversity. The confident creativity of these NY-based herpetologists recalls The Odious at their most unhinged—a morass of influences ranging from electronica to deathcore that sticks to my neurons like flies to a tongue. Whether channeling the brutal (“Dandelion,” despite the name, is fairly dissonant) or the ethereal (“Wake Up”‘s clean vocals and synths), Eclipse hops between genres like we breathe. Evolution willing, they’ll continue carving out a niche for themselves in the crowded tech death ecosystem.” – Roldy – Toilet ov Hell (2025 – Eclipse)

“I know it’s still relatively early in the year, but this is the best thing I’ve heard this year. The way they managed to make a progressive melodic and damn near technical death metal amalgamation sound this great is truly something. This is an easy 10/10 and will be in constant rotation for some time to come. As always don’t forget to stream and buy the music if you like it!” – Technical Music Review (2025 – Eclipse)

“Frogg have the instrumental chops to find a dominant place in this style of music.” – Heavy Music HQ (2025 – Eclipse)

“Battered Over The Head… Playfully: Not much more I can say, other than to repeat that this is music which challenges the listener. The band play out of their skins, absolutely dazzling us with off-the-charts playing. Anyone who loves heavy music which is progressive will love this album (no should about it). What does help is that Frogg adds little touches of playfulness as well as extra or surprising musical instruments to keep the whole thing entertaining. I said in the review of the EP that it showed “great promise”. And that “promise” has in my view been met on this album. Once again they battered me over the head in the most fun way musically. I can only imagine the fun of seeing them do this stuff live. A must-have for fans of extreme progressive music.” – CGCM Radio / Podcast (2025 – Eclipse)

MORNINGSTVR Announces “A Fate Engraved” Album Release Tour (CA/WA/OR/ID)

New Music Video “The Last Of The Northern Kingdoms”

New Album “A Fate Engraved” Out June 20th, 2025

Set to unleash his upcoming album “A Fate Engraved” in June 2025, synth-based black metal artist Morningstvr announces American West Coast tour dates from June 13th to 20th in support of the record.

June 20, 2025 – Twin Falls, ID – Big Papa’s Bar

Morningstvr’s first single, “The Last of the Northern Kingdoms”, and an accompanying music video is now available. The nearly five-minute track showcases Morningstvr’s signature blend of cold, atmospheric synths, thunderous drums, and anguished vocals that have become hallmarks of his distinctive sound. He comments on the single:

“The Last of the Northern Kingdoms: is the lead song on this album. It gives reference to one of Tolkien’s works thus telling the story of my origins. This one stood out to me as the lead song because of its epic changes, the emotion it gives, and how heavy it became as I finished writing it.”

“The Last of the Northern Kingdoms” has overarching themes of medieval lore, ancient battles, and fallen empires. Sam Tchortov, the Russian American musician behind Morningstvr, crafts a narrative that bridges his previous work “In Memoriam of the Blvck Wind” with this new chapter in his “Unholy Trinity” saga. The visual aesthetic of the music video complements the music’s frigid atmosphere, depicting desolate winter scapes and crumbling medieval architecture that reinforce the track’s themes of lost glory and forgotten kingdoms.

Drawing from his diverse influences, including Darkthrone, Hulder, and JRR Tolkien’s works, Tchortov has created a piece that stands as both a powerful single and an integral part of the larger narrative that “A Fate Engraved” aims to tell.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 1, 2025

AITTALA New Video “Machines (Prologue)”

New Album Machines Out April 17th, 2025, via Exitus Stratagem Records

Eclectic doom metal powerhouse AITTALA has unleashed its second single and video, “Machines (Prologue),” giving fans a taste of their highly anticipated album “Machines,” due out on April 17, 2025, via Exitus Strategem Records.

Listen to “Machines (Prologue)” at the following links:

Video – https://youtu.be/hhhPYsbuR1o

Digital (Spotify) – https://hypeddit.com/aittala/machinesprologue

The songs on “Machines” were originally written and demoed between 1990 and 1997 on an analog 4-track cassette recorder. Now, Aittala has revived these tracks, preserving their raw essence while enhancing them with modern production techniques. The album offers a nostalgic yet powerful experience, blending early progressive metal influences with storytelling-driven lyrics. While showcasing a distinct style from their recent works, “Machines” stays true to Aittala’s signature heavy, immersive sound.

Formed in 1991 in Holland, Aittala quickly gained recognition in the Dutch metal scene, opening for bands like THE GATHERING and SADIST. After a hiatus, frontman Eric Aittala resurrected the band in 2008, leading to six full-length albums: Bed of Thorns (2009), Haunt Your Flesh (2011), Effigy (2014), American Nightmare (2016), False Pretenses (2019), and Live to Regret (2022).

Now, with “Machines,” AITTALA boldly steps into the past, bringing long-lost tracks to life with a modern, crushing edge.

This dynamic duo of Eric Aittala (Guitars/Vocals) and Gary ‘Zeus’ Smith (Drums) (THE FIFTH, ex-MR BLACKWELL) continues to write, record, and tour, bringing their distinct brand of heavy, immersive metal to fans worldwide.

“Aittala Offer Powerful Pandemic Post-Mortem on ‘Live to Regret’… Stick it on a playlist with Apostle of Solitude, Crowbar, Famyne, and Paradise Lost, with a dash of Slayer for good measure.” – Doomed and Stoned

“One of the best albums for 2022” – 666MrDoom YouYube Channel

“This platter is heavy melodic ear candy that drips with deep and mesmeric face-melting tones and grinding rhythms.” (Live to Regret) – The Metal Gods Meltdown

“The band’s sound is difficult to pigeonhole because they incorporate a variety of styles. The common element in all the songs is the potent groove. On tracks like “Black Coffin” and “Afterthought” stoner/doom is at the forefront, while songs such as “Disowned” have a more traditional metal vibe. There are progressive influences on “How Much Longer,” while the closer “Debt” is a piano based ballad. Even with so many disparate styles, Aittala bring everything together into a cohesive whole.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“I would describe them as an eclectic Doom Metal band, although their sound is a bit tough to define. That’s ultimately a good thing though, and I enjoy the refreshment of something different. My only major complaint is that on some songs, the vocals and lyrics are so drawn out that they become a little boring and you end up waiting a bit for something cool to happen. The good news is something cool usually does end up happening” – Metal-Temple

“In the metal world, bands can start to sound the same and Aittala steps outside of the box. With clear crisp vocals, grinding rhythms and well executed leads, this band is definitely in a league of their own.” – The Metal Channel

Metalist Magazine & Israeli Bands Stormbound and more! Unite To Release Memorial EP “The Final Hours” For Fallen Soldier & Metal Fan Jonathan Savitsky

Artwork by Black & Grim

On October 7, 2023, approximately 6,000 terrorists infiltrated kibbutzim, moshavim, and Israeli Defense Forces bases near the Gaza border.

Jonathan Savitsky, a dedicated soldier, gentleman, and Metalhead, fell heroically in the battle for the Kisufim outpost during its liberation. When the Egoz soldiers arrived, they found 32 female observers, three women, a baby, and 14 wounded Golani Brigade soldiers barricaded in the operations room.

The battle for the Kisufim outpost lasted about seven grueling hours. All 50 people in the operations room were rescued unharmed, but the cost was heavy: Jonathan and his comrades, Amit Peled and Elad Sasson, all 21 years old, were killed in action.

Days after Jonathan’s death, his sister Lina reached out to Metalist Magazine (https://www.metalist.co.il/) on Facebook. She shared that Jonathan was an avid fan of metal. After a few conversations, Metalist proposed with the magazine’s wide reach, that they can issue a “call to action” for Israeli bands interested in writing a song to honor Jonathan. The hope was to find one band willing to take on this important project. Instead, not one but five different songs were written!

The artists and bands who answered the call were Stormbound (Power Metal), Shiran Band (Modern Djent/Heavy metal), In Labyrinth (Death/Thrash), Yagon (doom metal), and D’arc Mother (Berlin based folk singer/pianist) featuring Yadin Moyal (guitarist).

The project was coordinated by Nimrod Friedrich, a music producer who oversaw all the musical materials and technical management. Mastering for the entire EP was handled by Maor Appelbaum, a top-tier professional who has worked with major rock and metal acts such as Sabaton, Faith No More, Rob Halford, Sepultura, Voivod, and many others.

All participants in the project volunteered their time and talents, driven by a genuine desire to honor Jonathan Savitsky’s memory—a metalhead and a hero.

Entitled “The Final Hours” (In Loving Memory of Jonathan Savitsky), the EP can be listened to at the following link: https://orcd.co/thefinalhours

Known for his progressive work in the Canadian band FEN, vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Doug Harrison announces the third album, “A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife,” from his solo project Slug Comparison, due out May 2025.

Written by Harrison along with vocals, guitar, bass, and programming, he is joined by drummer Flavio Cirillo (Art of Dying, Puddle of Mudd) with mixing done by Ben Kaplan (Biffy Clyro, Bend Sinister, Ninjaspy, Mother Mother, Corb Lund) and mastered by Brock McFarlane at CPS Mastering (Mother Mother, Corb Lund).

Slug Comparison unveiled the first single, “March Through the Forest,” this past January and is sharing the next single and the album’s opening track, “Wish to Adapt,” from the 11-song album. The track is about reaching the end of yourself, when you know what you’re going to do in virtually every situation, and you’re bored, and you want to change, and you wonder if you can, if you can break out of yourself. This song captures the yearning that might lead to the breaking of patterns.

The full length describes trying to squeeze the creative process into the demands of normal life. Most musicians don’t make much money, if any. And one’s schedule doesn’t tend to open up great swathes of time for creativity. Every minute you get to work on music is the spoil of a battle won against the forces of daily life. Sacrifices are made. Metaphorical limbs are lost.

Harrison’s comments:

“My past work includes a lot of acoustic guitars and delicate layering. The new material is all electric, has more upfront rock production, and is more riff-heavy. I lean into my early influence of grunge, but this record also has touches of prog and alt-rock. Fans who know my other band, Fen, might like “Metal Roots Came Twisting” for its expansive journey. I want fans to enjoy the high, uplifting energy of this exhilarating musical experience.”

Harrison does assure fans that future releases will continue to explore the moody, acoustic-based territories that defined his earlier work. Recommended for fans of Mother Mother, The Killers, and Porcupine Tree. Listen to “Wish to Adapt” at the following links:

“My past work includes a lot of acoustic guitars and delicate layering. The new material is all electric and has more upfront rock production. If anyone starts to miss the old stuff, don’t worry, there’ll be plenty more moody, acoustic-based songs in the future. Those are piling up in the shadows and will get their turn. Prog fans might like “Metal Roots Came Twisting” for its expansive journey. I love being able to throw a long, developed song like that onto an album. I wish I could write 8 or 10 of them in one stretch, but they take up a lot of brain power. Enjoy this high energy, uplifting, exhilarating musical experience.” – Doug Harrison – Slug Comparison

===================================================

About The Album Artwork:

The artwork is meant to convey the scattered life of a creative, the challenge of balancing life’s basic demands with the unrelenting and financially unrewarding pull to make art. The artwork is a mess, and a bit ugly.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife is an overdramatic description of trying to squeeze the creative process into the demands of normal life. Most musicians don’t make much money, if any. And one’s schedule doesn’t tend to open up great swathes of time for creative work. Every minute you get to work on music is the spoil of a battle won against the forces of daily life. Sacrifices are made. Metaphorical limbs are lost.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

1. Wish to Adapt
It’s about reaching the end of yourself, that point when you know what you’re going to do in virtually every situation, and you’re bored, and you want to change, and you wonder if you can, if you can break out of yourself. This song captures the yearning that might lead to the purposeful breaking of patterns.

2. March Through the Forest
This song was inspired by a November hike in the North Shore mountains of Vancouver. It started off damp and cold. As we climbed, it started snowing, and it turned into a complete whiteout by the time we reached the summit. The song is a factual account of that joyful experience, a recording of that memory.

3. Game of Repression
I’m one of those people who tries to glide through life without causing a lot of offense. (Very rock’n’roll, yes.) But it’s been said the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and sometimes I do a little roadwork—I want to say the right thing, but some ugly shit comes out and it’s hurtful because there’s some truth to it. I think the lyrics spell it out pretty clearly. The keening and moans at the end of the song do a decent job of conveying the aftermath of such verbal slips: the regret, the self-berating, and loathing, the pain of the person on the other end.

4. Undead Plots
I write songs. I also write fiction. But I’m not as good at finishing stories as I am at finishing songs. And those unfinished stories have been piling up (while I’ve been working on music). As proof of this, I’ve written a song about all those unfinished stories confronting me as a group and pleading for me to finish them. Unfinished stories do not go away. They drag on you. They haunt you. My hope was that in writing a song about them I’d be inspired to finish them. I try. But then another recording needs to be made…

5. Outta the Jam
The title track of Fen’s latest album Dear Mouse is about a dilapidated house we used to live in. We jammed there all day, often starting at 8 in the morning, and we had little reason to leave. That was my first time being a shut-in, and it led to swelling anxiety about the outside world. I felt exposed walking along the sidewalk to get groceries. The cawing of the East Van crows sounded sharper than ever, even threatening. Entering the world outside was a get-in / get-out mission. The best survival tactic was to have a riff looping in my head, so I never lost connection to the basement jam space, which was the center of my existence.

6. A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife
The feel and chords of this song are so much outside of what I’m comfortable doing that when I started playing them during a jam with Jeff and Sam from Fen, they thought I was joking when I told them it was a new song. The irony is that it’s a serious song underneath, and maybe the jokey feel made it easier to write about. I’ve been making music for over 25 years and pouring time, energy, and money into it, while at the same time trying to exist in a “normal” life. It takes constant pushing, constant sacrifices, and the support of the people closest to me. It’s a precarious balance to maintain. And this song is a tiny window into that lifestyle.

7. Too Much Love
Sometimes life is very good. Gotta celebrate those good days.

8. Metals Roots Came Twisting
I spent a few months in Nelson, BC, which is known for its laid-back, arts-minded residents, many of whom share an appreciation for reggae. My roots are in metal. This song is about the clash of genres that would sometimes occur at open jams. The lyrics are all in good fun. I left Nelson with an appreciation of Bob Marley and I guess the seeds of this song that I’d write half a lifetime later.

9. Played for a Centipede
Most musicians don’t get their dreams fulfilled, and I’m no exception, along with most musicians I know.  Even though it’s common to fall grossly short of what you hoped for, it takes some getting used to. To let go. I’ve written a few songs around this topic.

10. “Played for a Centipede” is a head-on look at the disparity between dreams and reality. While you play, you want a stadium of adoring fans, but you get a centipede doubling back on the carpet towards you.

11. Of Being Apart
This is an anthem for introverts. It’s the story of someone whose society puts them in solitary confinement for being an introvert. They thrive there, and when the extraverted society gives them a second chance at freedom, instead of joining the crowd, they go further into the cage and burrow deep into the earth to be even more alone. The vocal has some of the highest notes I can produce.

12. Hamsters in a Tub
I wish I could explain where these lyrics came from. They just came. It’s the story of a boy who despite his love for hamsters inadvertently causes their death in the jaws of the family cat. So he buys another one from the lady down the street, who has an endless supply. Sometimes a kooky riff calls for kooky lyrics and a kooky vocal character to deliver them. I’ve written a lot songs now, and a weird one like this is a gift because I don’t have to worry if I’ve written this type of song before.

=============================================
Fun Facts / Story Angles:

1. Doug Harrison is from the Canadian rock/metal band Fen, who just released the widely appreciated album Dear Mouse.

2. The Slug Comparison songs were recorded over the same period as Fen’s Dear Mouse. Both recordings had been a long time coming, and then by chance they converged to completion at the same time. It became a bit of a competition to see which one would be mastered first. In the end, it was pretty much a tie, because I had a couple of recalls for the Slug Comparison master, but I wanted to put out Dear Mouse first, because it had been so bloody long in the making, and we were desperate to wash our hands of it.

3. The album was mixed by Ben Kaplan (Biffy Clyro, Mother Mother, Ninja Spy).

4. Drums were played by Flavio Cirillo (Art of Dying, Puddle of Mudd)

Emerging from Portland, OR’s thriving metal underground, These Cursed Hands has unveiled a visually stunning new video for “Perihelion”, a track from their conceptual EP “Intelligent (RE)Design”, released in November 2024.

These Cursed Hands continue to push the boundaries of modern metal, crafting a distinctive sound that seamlessly fuses black, progressive, core, death, and thrash metal elements. Their latest EP weaves a dark narrative of divine beings who, weary of humanity’s existence, engineer a cybernetic fungal evolution through possessive spores. The theme draws inspiration from “The Terminator”, “The Last of Us”, and “Resident Evil” while incorporating themes from Norse mythology, Christianity, and Satanism. They comment on the track and the album:

“Musically this album is a dynamic array of sounds and styles, featuring everything from melodic death and black metal to chunky deathcore and brutal death, with even some more ambient sections to haunt the listener. Perihelion is our most structurally complex song, moving between haunting ambiance, crushing death metal, and deathcore riffs.”

These Cursed Hands has earned a reputation for their electrifying live performances, featuring programmed lighting, theatrical props, masks, and raw energy that transforms venues into apocalyptic landscapes. Their vocal aggression, earthshaking heaviness, explosive rhythm, and face-melting riffage regularly annihilate whole audiences, leaving only ashen smears where fans once stood. As the sun rises on these scenes of sonic devastation, the few remaining survivors will pull themselves from the rubble and spread the cursed word. They are recommended for fans of The Black Dahlia Murder, Dark Tranquility, and Thy Art is Murder.

““Intelligent (RE)Design” is an impressive display of extreme metal that mixes black metal, metalcore, deathcore, and death metal in an attractively intense sound. These Cursed Hands bring a sense of nostalgia with their music while still bringing a modern and distinctly unique sound to the table. ” – The Metal Verse (2024 – Intelligent (RE)Design)

“These Cursed Hands create a powerful chorus that utilizes sing-screaming to hit melodic notes while still using extreme vocals and continuing the momentum of the song. The band does an excellent job of adding in blackened influences and making the music have an evil and dark overall feel. The track goes into an immersive guitar solo that fades out the song on a highly technical note. Fans of death metal, deathcore, and blackened metal genres will really enjoy These Cursed Hands!” The Metal Verse (2023 – Hell Breaks Loose (single)

Vortex has released a haunting new music video for their latest single “Haunting the Abyss” directed by Chris Kells (The Agonist). The track is the second single from their upcoming EP “Alien Realms” scheduled for release on April 11th, 2025. This is the second single off this record and fans can hear both live when the band tours Eastern Canada in April and Europe in the fall, supporting France’s XAON. Vortex comments on the single:

“This song begins with a melancholic black metal section before transitioning into a verse that I’d describe as a modern death metal take on the main riff of Metal Church by the band of the same name. For this EP, we focused on writing memorable, epic choruses, and this one is a perfect example of that. This song showcases Vortex at its best. We put a lot of hard work into it, and we truly believe it’s the standout track on Alien Realms.”

The video, crafted by Kells’ visionary direction, perfectly captures the band’s blend of technical proficiency and atmospheric intensity. Through striking visuals and masterful cinematography, the video enhances the track’s exploration of cosmic horror and discovery.

“Haunting the Abyss” demonstrates Vortex‘s evolution, featuring their trademark combination of guttural and black metal vocals alongside fry screams. The song showcases the band’s sophisticated approach to extreme metal, with intricate guitar work and massive orchestral arrangements working in perfect harmony. They are recommended listening for fans of Shadow of Intent, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Dimmu Borgir.

“#8 on Top 10 Quebec Band 2023 Albums – The Future Remains In Oblivion delivers a solid punch with their intense and well-felt symphonic death metal and, with a quality product like this, they have nothing to envy of the big names in the genre.” – Thorium Mag

“The Future Remains in Oblivion is the collision zone between powdered wig classical and battle jacketed death metal that should hold appeal for fans of Fleshgod Apocalypse, Septicflesh and those who like their Suffocation mixed with Dimmu Borgir.” – Decibel Magazine

“The song’s (The Walls) multi-faceted nature is further revealed in harrowing and haughty growls, jolting chords, and fiery sunbursts of sound, as well as through a swirling melodic guitar solo that spectacularly sends the song into the stratosphere. The song’s finale is itself a full-power spectacle that really gets the adrenaline surging.” – No Clean Singing

“If there’s anything that Vortex nails, it’s drama. Album highlight and banger track “First Blood” is simply massive” – Angry Metal Guy

“For some music is pure escapism but does that still hold true when bands like Canadian Melodic Death Metal monster Vortex whisk the would be listener into a bleak world that is recovering from a devastating cataclysm? Scenes of war and survival are punctuated with harrowing strings, technical riffs, and guttural and Black Metal inspired vocals as the band weave cinematic stories and orchestral touches into their third concept album “The Future Remains In Oblivion”” – Metal Noise
