THE FLAYING, death metal from Quebec City, Canada will release their second album “Angry, Undead” on March 22, 2019, via PRC Music. Working with Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) at The Grid in Montreal, QC, the band has manifested pure mayhem for their fastest and most brutal debauchery to date.

Their first single off this devastating sophomore album is ‘La Valse du Scorpion’ which is described by the band as:

“Poetry of obsessive dependence stranded in duplicity and evil; the will to confront the same Einstein sentence about trying to get different results by doing the same things on and on and avoiding insanity BUT the power within to sublimate absolute evil by the will and preservation of a pure heart, it’s a love song as well.”

And it all began with the rope dancer….

Formed in July 2010, The Flaying is a death metal band based in Quebec City, Canada that focuses on fluid melodic construction of songs featuring brutal sections which are further complemented by vocals with both low end growls and hateful high pitches.

Since their first release Unhope (2014), Seb, Did, Wil and Mike are forging ahead in order to adopt a more brutal approach: adding new grooves, a greater velocity, and creating a wider ambiance as well as keeping breakdowns and progressive parts with counterpoints constructing a main theme of anger and a general hate of humanity.

Soldiering on with the philosophy of one band, four individuals, four personalities to collide, the writing process is a team effort initially seeing the band collaborate on riffs and groove ideas, adding a flourish of low-end colors, and blending the whole thing together with flying vocals that create a manifest of pure mayhem. This product of this steadfast diablerie will be realized on March 22, 2019, when the second album “Angry, Undead” is unleashed on PRC Music.

Thrashers HELLNITE are proud to present their debut mosher “Midnight Terrors” out now as of February 12, 2019, via Sliptrick Records. The full length is lyrically a paranormal and sci-fi themed concept album with influences from classic heroes such as Kreator, Slayer, Death along with next-generation thrash and heavy metal such as Havok, Skull Fist. The debut album was written and recorded by founding member, vocalist, and guitarist Paolo Belmar who formed HELLNITE originally in Mexico City in 2010 and has now re-established the band Edmonton, Canada with a live line up consisting of bassist Konnor Miskiman and drummer Ryan Payne.

Belmar adds:

“I have been working on ‘Midnight Terrors’ since 2014 when I lived in Mexico and I think it will be well received from people who are into oldies and classic metal. I’m proud to say that it is something that I made to happen by myself. I want to say thanks to everyone who joined me in this trip and put a piece of effort in order to bring this album to life, Hellnite will live forever AND the next album will be even better (I can’t wait). EXTREMA’s original line-up was established between 1985 and 1986 in Milan, Italy. In a very short time, the band led by guitars player Tommy Massara achieved a huge success. Tommy is the only remaining member of the original line-up, and over the years he also played the role of artistic and executive producer.

Hundreds of concerts made the band more and more close-knit and open towards a constant growth path, capable from the beginning of welcoming influences external to heavy metal, a consistent choice within an evolutionary framework which saw EXTREMA start from the rebellious attitude of MOTÖRHEAD to later incorporate the style of Californian thrash metal, a scene with which the band shared the utmost care for the technical side of music and a devastating presence on stage.

The band’s reputation as musicians and performers kept growing in a perpetual live context, with extensive tours and the participation to prestigious festivals with the likes of METALLICA, SLAYER, MOTÖRHEAD, and KORN, among many others.

Extraneous from the beginning to political and ideological implications of any kind, EXTREMA’s lyrics have always strived to alternate challenging and contemporary themes with lighter subjects, true to rock’n’roll form.

In May 2017 the band welcomed the new frontman Tiziano Spigno. Thanks to his entry, EXTREMA can finally release all the creativity repressed in recent years: a violent, direct and engaging approach which is -at the same time- also varied, courageous and experimental, resulting in the new album “Headbanging Forever”.

Hailing from the ashes of Charlotte, USA’s darker side comes forth the blackened death trio, Oculum Dei. Mixing different elements and influences of black metal, the band is set to bring forth a horde of darkness and engage listeners into a realm of deep, chaotic experiences.

Hellbent to unleash their demonic war chants from their debut full length “Dreams of Desire and Torment” on February 22, 2019, the band is sharing their latest music video “Involuntary Pandemic”. The track is an intense brutal force, a violent asking about where God is when bad shit happens and why one should be a believer, especially when a child is being harmed or murdered.

Bassist/ drummer Tenebris adds:

“Involuntary Pandemic is almost a straight death metal blast to the face with Zebs well place rant on religion, the hypocrisy of the church and asking where are your Gods when bad stuff happens.”

“The album as a whole is an eclectic mix of slow dark black metal jumping into extreme black riffs sometimes slowed down with a death metal riff and into acoustic guitars. There is no set template for this one, just a groove and feel that each of us has brought to the table.”

First forming as a studio project in 2016 by Tenebris (bass/drum and keys programming), Camalus (guitar) and Zebulv (vocals/guitar), Oculum Dei has taken their influences of Emperor, Behemoth and Dark Funeral and push an eclectic unholy blasphemy as far as it will go in the Southern USA’s Bible Belt.

Not content to remain as a studio project, the trio has begun performing locally and have shared the stage with Carach Angren, Wolfheart, and Mors Principum Est. Clad in corpse paint with an elaborate and continuously evolving stage show, Oculum Dei has heavily invested into their extreme visionary madness.

Releasing his new album ‘Remain In Stasis’ this past January along with its lead single and music video “A Way To Escape, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia’s solo atmospheric prog artist Marc Durkee has posted an acoustic rendition of the song where he was accompanied in the studio by Spencer Muise on guitar/vocals, Jessi Nicole on keys/vocals and Cameron Lawrence on percussion.

This is as it should be, no great art was ever produced without great bravery, and Marc Durkee is an artist unafraid to dig deep into both his own personal suffering and the world around him for inspiration.

Inspired by Katatonia, Tesseract, Anathema, Devin Townsend, Coheed & Cambria, Durkee describes his music as “progressive, metal/rock, Doom metal, post-hardcore, post-rock.”

Durkee’s new album, solo in the true sense of the word, is entitled ‘Remain In Stasis’, and is loaded with deep meaning to this courageous and talented artist, as he explains.

“The first meaning is personal. I’ve been stuck in a state of depersonalization for almost five years now. For me, it’s been a chronic symptom of dealing with years of depression and stress, and it’s unrelenting. When it’s at its worst, it removes mostly all motivation and enjoyment from my life. While that is unfortunate, it does serve as a major source of inspiration for song-writing…The second meaning is more political and universal. I feel that humanity is at a unique point in our history, with technology and social media allowing us to communicate and express ourselves in ways that were previously unimaginable. And yet, nobody really DOES communicate. It seems as though it’s mostly used as a platform to bicker over political ideals and agendas and create discourse, or for anyone to use as their own personal performance venue. Everyone wants to be seen and heard, even those who really don’t deserve to be.”

Marc Durkee is one artist who really does deserve to be heard, and now that ‘Remain In Stasis’ has been released, all the world will hear him.

Barrie Today – The Convalescence opens mini tour in Barrie en route to Montreal

Toledo, OH symphonic deathcore band The Convalescence will be performing six Canadian tour dates this coming February 2019 in Ontario and Quebec with support from The Breathing Process and My Own Will. The tour will kick off on Feb 14th in Barrie, ON and wrap up in Montreal, QC on February 19th (dates listed below). Recently signing to Legend Recordings, the tour is part of The Convalescence‘s trek to Montreal, QC to record their sixth studio album with producer Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation, Erimha) at The Grid who also mixed and mastered their 2017 full-length “This Is Hell” unleashed on Unique Leader Records.

“We are proud of our new signing with Legend Recordings! We are very excited to be working with a company who understands our vision and believes in our band as much as we do. We have a lot of new material that we consider our best yet.” says vocalist Keith Wampler.

Formed in 2011 by band founder vocalist Keith Wampler, The Convalescence‘s current line up consists of guitarist Zac Lunsford, guitarist Toby Wright, bassist Ron Buckley, drummer Charles Webber, and keyboardist Katie McCrimmon. Assembled in 2003 to infiltrate, build and destroy, Gatineau, QC’s INSURRECTION is an aural onslaught assaulting witnesses in both languages of French and English. Known for blending calculated technicality with a signature mixture of merciless death metal, the band has annihilated the masses with four full-lengths, their most recent 2017’s “Extraction” unleashed on Galy Records to follow “Prototype” (2013), “Fracture” (2010) and “Prologue” (2009). Emerging as one of the most prominent metal bands to come out of Eastern Canada, the brutal quintet have teamed up with NoCleanSinging for the premiere of their new music video “System Failure”. The video was shot during the band’s performance at La Grande Guignolee Underground #11 during December 2018 to raise money and food for local Montreal charity SunYouth along with other well known Quebec metal bands BARF, Cryptopsy and more.
