DOUBLE EXPERIENCE New Geek Rock Single “Expensive Taste”

+ NXT LVL Emerging Artist Festival

Nominated for Ottawa Capital Music Award for Album of the Year, “Undefeated”

Double Experience (L-R – Ian Nichols – Vocals and Bass, Brock Tinsley – Guitar)

With their upcoming performance at this year’s inaugural NXT LVL Emerging Artist Festival in Ottawa, and nomination for a Capital Music Award for Album of the Year (gala hosted on May 22nd, 2025 at Southam Hall at the National Arts Centre (1 Elgin Street) https://ottawamic.com) for their fourth album “Undefeated”, geek culture rock duo Double Experience are sharing their follow up single “Expensive Taste”.

The song speaks of the simple pleasures of life ruined by the ever-expanding reach of modern consumerism and was written to contain the geeky core of Double Experience, but enveloping it in the most layers of candy coating they’ve ever dared to attempt. As a band very familiar with touring, the duo wrote songs that would enhance their visceral concerts in sweaty bars and clubs. This time around, their music has a clear, crisp sound and a new sheen of consummate professionalism. The band explains the single further:

“Take, for instance, the pastime of video games – an innocent slice of escapism now rife with microtransactions designed to make those without feel inferior. In other words, do not let vanity get the better of whatever makes your heart flutter. If you aren’t feeling the warmth of the midsummer sun by the end of “Expensive Taste”, you’re already dead inside.”

About:

By taking influence from Coheed and Cambria, Weezer, and Palaye Royale, Double Experience bounces between sounds in a quest to compose music as diverse as an arcade gallery. In doing so, Double Experience has bonded with a passionate global fan base with their undeniable live prowess amounting to nearly 1000 concerts across 18 countries, opening for all manner of acts, from Badflower to Danko Jones, from JJ Wilde to Galactic Empire.

By day, mild-mannered band members Ian Nichols (vocals, bass) and Brock Tinsley (guitar) deliver band-oriented workshops and panels at conferences, conventions, and festivals (IndieWeek, MAGFest, Ottawa ComicCon), teaching up-and-coming creatives how to take control of their destiny, similar to the duo’s musical alter-ego. The band has co-written songs with Jayson DeZuzio (Imagine Dragons), and in 2016, their Destiny-themed anthem “The Glimmer Shot” caught the attention of the game’s developers at Bungie.

Their fourth studio album “Undefeated” was released in May 2024 via Colfax Music Ltd. and was inspired by the fans through live streaming on Twitch, and has all things nerdy, and is all about perseverance.

Out Now! FEN’s Doug Harrison’s Solo Project SLUG COMPARISON’s Third Album “A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife”

Canadian vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Doug Harrison, known for his progressive rock outfit FEN, is excited to share his solo project SLUG COMPARISON’s third album, “A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife,” out now, as of May 9th, 2025.

Recorded over the same period as Fen‘s Dear Mouse (Sept 2024). Both recordings had been a long time coming, and then by chance, they converged to completion at the same time.

“It became a bit of a competition to see which one would be mastered first. In the end, it was pretty much a tie, because I had a couple of recalls for the Slug Comparison master, but I wanted to put out Dear Mouse first, because it had been so bloody long in the making, and we were desperate to wash our hands of it,” adds Harrison.

Slug Comparison‘s previous records were built on the layering of electric and acoustic guitars, and earnest, melodic vocals. This latest 11-song album has abandoned the acoustics and is more riff-heavy to lean into his early influence of grunge.

Harrison comments:

“For past albums, it was tricky keeping the momentum going with half the songs being acoustic and light and the other half being heavy-ish. This time around, electric guitars carry the listener from beginning to end. A straight-up rock album. That was the goal. And lyrically, it follows in the tradition of songs like AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way to the Top,” the difference being that Slug Comparison hasn’t left the house yet. A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife is a grief statement about the abandonment of rockstar dreams. It’s also a collection of yearnings, regrets, and celebrations along the way.”

“A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife” was written by Harrison along with vocals, guitar, bass, and programming. He is joined by drummer Flavio Cirillo (Art of Dying, Puddle of Mudd), along with a collaboration on the song “Wish to Adapt” with Matt McCallum. Mixing was done by Ben Kaplan (Biffy Clyro, Bend Sinister, Ninjaspy, Mother Mother, Corb Lund) and mastering by Brock McFarlane at CPS Mastering (Mother Mother, Corb Lund).

Harrison does assure fans that future releases will continue to explore the moody, acoustic-based territories that defined his earlier work. After this album, fans can expect a new EP from Slug Comparison in 2026. Recommended for fans of Mother Mother, The Killers, and Porcupine Tree, “A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife” is available at the following links:

“the quite outstanding A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife, a record that cements Doug Harrison and SLUG COMPARISON as a perpetual spark and joy for ears as songwriter and musician and itself as a forerunner if not dead cert for best of year choices come December.” – The RingMaster Review (2025 – A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife)

“Fen’s Doug Harrison has a solo project, Slug Comparison, and their current single ‘Wish To Adapt’ is great. The track’s verses share an almost agit-inflicted rhythm, taking the melody from a rock core into the realms of post punk and retro new wave, which Harrison accents further by adding a quirky, near spoken vocal. This gives the track a very rigid and uneasy quality. Then, everything does a massive about turn to smack the listener in the face with a huge sounding melodic rock chorus that sounds like a throwback to ‘The Colour & The Shape’ era Foo Fighters, making everything really accessible and welcomingly familiar. The more commercial moments of this rocker are big and impressive and eventually dominate, but that shouldn’t detract from the artier moments here, and Doug should be applauded for mixing styles in such an interesting manner.” – Real Gone Rocks (2025 – A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife)

“Harrison’s skills as a guitarist and bass player, plus a way above average knowledge of programming, enabled him to make the songs sound like a full band having a blast. Whether he goes fast (Outta the Jam) or takes it down a notch in the self-deprecating title track when he describes his job as punching in numbers into a blue screen with the great line “I want to die with only minor regrets”. The highlight is a twisted power ballad about to having much too much of a good thing (Too Much Love). Whatever he goes on about, Harrison never misses the opportunity to throw in a couple of smart chord changes or rhythmic shifts, preferably both of them. This is a record for musos first, but it is fine for those who are not about dissecting the music to enjoy it as such. Recommended if you like Deadwing-era Porcupine Tree.” – Here Comes The Flood (2025 – A Battle to the End Fought on the Edge of a Knife)

“Canadian auteur explores expectancy and desperation to find cathartic cleansing of his soul. 4/5” – Dmme.net – Let It Rock (When You Were Living Here 2019)

“One of my favourite songs of the year” (about “Bringer of Doom”) –Dutch Progressive Rock Radio (Self-Titled 2014)

“Simply engulfs the imagination and emotions” -The Ringmaster Reviews (Self-Titled 2014)

#30 of The Rickter Scale’s Top 100 albums of 2014 – Rickter Scale Rock Radio (Self-Titled 2014)

“Stirs the senses, taking the listener on a voyage of imagination and emotion.”-Sonic Abuse (Self-Titled 2014)

Slug Comparison Self-Titled Album #5 on DPRP’s Top Progressive Metal Albums of 2014

“Songs that are all of the highest caliber” – PowerofMetal.dk (Self-Titled 2014)

“Ahh, the glorious beauty of the brooding and gloomy mind of Doug Harrison” (5 stars) – Sea of Tranquility (Self-Titled 2014)

“a lot of work and effort has gone into this album, and it pays off spectacularly” -Wonderbox Metal (Self-Titled 2014)

9.2/10 – Metal Imperium – (Self-Titled 2014)

0 Out Now! LIMINAL SPIRIT’s One-Track Concept Album “Pathways” Charts A Journey Between Spiritual Dimensions

Out Now! LIMINAL SPIRIT’s One-Track Concept Album “Pathways” Charts A Journey Between Spiritual Dimensions

Photo – Jerry Hauppa – Liminal Spirit

Liminal Spirit, the musical project of multi-instrumentalist Jerry Hauppa, announces the release of “Pathways”, a single-track concept album designed as an immersive journey through spiritual thresholds and interdimensional spaces. Following the 2024 self-titled EP, “Pathways” expands on Liminal Spirit‘s signature sound: a rich fusion of doom metal with cinematic atmosphere. Hauppa comments:

“I view this as a full-length release despite its 14-minute duration, because due to the nature of its composition of non-repeating passages, it requires multiple listens to fully cement itself within the listener. The first pass will express the story and characters, and repeated listens will bring both to life through digesting the melodies and composition as a whole.”

Where the debut embraced ritualistic abstraction, “Pathways” introduces a more frenzied, intricate musical approach that perfectly complements its narrative structure. It tells the story of five figures trapped in a maze, chronicling their emotional processing and planned escape. The composition unfolds like a film score, with no repeating parts until the finale. Musical themes develop and mutate to reflect character growth, with distinct tonal shifts accompanying each character’s voice in the narrative.

This thoughtful composition rewards repeat listening, revealing new layers with each experience. The album’s structure mirrors its lyrical themes, all concerning transcendence beyond the physical form and transitions between spiritual planes. “Pathways” represents the second chapter in an ongoing exploration of spiritual passage. A third release, currently in development, promises to continue this cinematic journey through liminal spaces. Liminal Spirit is recommended for fans of Jesu, Swans, and Skepticism.

Unleashing their self-titled debut album in 2023, Dead Fields Of Woolwich unveils their first single “Cult of The Cemetery” off their forthcoming sophomore album “Monarch of The Grave” due out later this year.

Dead Fields Of Woolwich has its beginnings going back to the autumn of 2020 in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, when multi-instrumentalist Kye Bell (Withing Nostalgia, Falamh) created a gloomy, doom metal project focused on dreary lyrics and a gothic-laden sound. Recruiting Alyssa Broere on vocals, the dark twosome began their musical journey. Now, for their next follow-up and second album, the duo has grown to a full-fledged band with the addition of guitarist Dave Strba, bassist Greg Meir, and drummer Kyle Taylor.

Band founder and guitarist Kye Bell explains further on the band’s evolution:

“The sound has evolved since the first release. When writing the first album, the focus was more on powerful chords and drudging riffs. Those things are still there in small doses, but this album is full of harder-hitting songs and much more memorable parts that stick with you after the listen is done. This album breaks away from the typical Doom formula and kind of takes on its own shape. The songwriting has become more refined over time as well, lyrics are more concrete with well-defined concepts. I feel like this particular single, Cult of the Cemetery, will be very well received due to the more rock-rounded nature of the song while still maintaining its heaviness and its foot firmly planted in the metal realm. It opens the doors to a different audience, yet still stays true to the dark nature of the band.”

With its very memorable riffs, this new single is catchy hell and dark as the grave it speaks of. Melodic and melancholic, it is recommended for fans of Paradise Lost, Type O Negative, and Katatonia.

Watch and listen to the music video for “Cult of the Cemetery” via its premiere on Doomed & Stoned HERE.

“Jolting chugs and booming drums will get heads moving as the vocals crackle with passion way up in the stratosphere, and near the end the music receives a surge of energy, through a rapid riff-pulse and bombastic percussion, as a prelude to a blazing finale in which all the song’s ingredients, including Alyssa‘s intense, spine-tingling voice, unite in a display of tragic magnificence. (You’ll probably find by then that the song has also gotten well and truly stuck in your head.)” – No Clean Singing (single – I’ve Made It To Hell) (2023)

Italian melancholic dark metal band Shores Of Null is proud to unveil their first live album, “Beauty Over Europe,” now available as of May 9th, 2025, via Sulphur Music / Masked Dead Records.

To celebrate its release day, Shores of Null are sharing their new live video, “A Nature in Disguise”. The audio track was recorded live at Backstage in Munich, Germany. Footage is taken from the 2023 European tour with Swallow The Sun, Draconian, and Avatarium, mainly at Barba Negra in Budapest by Péter Lerch.

“Beauty Over Europe” features 10 tracks recorded during the monumental 2023 European tour with Swallow The Sun, Draconian, and Avatarium. Throughout that tour, Shores of Null performed 35 shows across 18 countries, including Norway, Denmark, Germany, the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Hungary, bringing their critically acclaimed album “The Loss Of Beauty” to the stage.

The live recordings, captured in Leipzig, Munich, Aschaffenburg, Budapest, and Belfast, preserve the raw and emotive energy of their performances. Each track reflects the band’s ability to blend melancholic melodies with crushing heaviness, offering fans a visceral live experience.

“Beauty Over Europe” is both a celebration of the tour and a gift to all fans of the band. Exactly two years after that unforgettable journey, this live album offers a chance to relive the emotional intensity and true essence of Shores Of Null’s live performances.

Reflecting on the experience, vocalist Davide Straccione and guitarist Gabriele Giacarri share their thoughts:

“This tour was an incredible journey, the longest in our career, and a true milestone for Shores Of Null. As the promotional tour for The Loss Of Beauty, our latest and most acclaimed album to date, it was an honor to bring these songs to life across 35 shows in 18 countries. Sharing the stage with monumental bands like Swallow The Sun and Draconian—huge inspirations for our music—was unforgettable. Despite the melancholy of their sound, they’re some of the most fun and genuine people we’ve met, and by the end of this epic journey, we were proud to call them friends.

We owe special thanks to our incredible crew—Petri, Matti, Mikko, and Tero—who ensured everything ran seamlessly and made this experience unforgettable. To pay homage to this extraordinary chapter, we decided to produce a live album. Recorded during key moments of the tour, it captures the essence of these unforgettable performances and is dedicated to all the people who supported us live and shared these magical moments with us.” – Gabriele Giaccari

Davide Straccione adds:

“Our 2023 European tour with Swallow The Sun, Draconian, and Avatarium was one of the most beautiful and intense experiences of my life. Night after night, we poured everything we had into our performances, connecting deeply with audiences across 18 countries. It was a journey that marked a pivotal moment in our career as a band as well, and one we’ll carry with us forever. This live album is our way of preserving and sharing that beauty, not only as a gift to those who joined us in the crowd, but also for those who couldn’t be there to witness it.”

About:

Shores of Null stand out from their contemporaries with their ability to blend seemingly disparate elements into their sound, overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time: blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place. Their music can be both melancholic and majestic, made of chorale-like guitar textures across the instrument’s entire range, sustained by a powerful rhythmic section and punctuated by a refined mixture of clean and growled vocals, along with extensive use of pleasing vocal harmonies which have become the band’s trademark through the years.

The Rome-based metal band has been an unwavering presence within the metal underground since their musical outset in 2013, churning out a series of impressive records: the melodic and somber “Quiescence” (Candlelight, 2014), the darker and more complex “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” (Candlelight/Spinefarm, 2017), and the ambitious “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)” (Spikerot Records, 2020), a 38-minute long doom manifesto that sees guest appearances of the doom-titans Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun) and Thomas A.G. Jensen (Saturnus), along with the angelic voice of Elisabetta Marchetti (Inno).

Shores Of Null’s fourth album, “The Loss Of Beauty”, released in March 2023, was hailed as one of the best albums of the year within the genre. The band supported the release with an extensive EU/UK tour alongside Swallow The Sun, Draconian, and Avatarium, followed by standout performances at major festivals like Hellfest, Rock Imperium, and 70000 Tons Of Metal, among others, further solidifying their status as one of the rising forces in the metal scene.

What a testament to Canadian talent we have, showcasing some of the top metal acts from across our great country, all leading to this final showdown in VanCity. Stoked to make the trek to attend and can’t wait to see who will be our champions bound for Wacken Open Air,” comments WMBC national organizer JJ Tartaglia.

British Columbia WMBC promoter Abelardo Mayoral adds:

“There has been a lot of excitement about the Metal Battle Canada taking place in Vancouver throughout the different elimination rounds. The response and attendance to each round have been outstanding. I know Vancouver is ready to welcome bands and fans from all over the country, and of course, to showcase the talent, strength, and unity that the metal scene in all of BC has.”

Winning their territorial battles respectively, the final four are the following:

Hamilton, ON’s KILLOTINE is the hammer that falls without warning—relentless, unforgiving, and all-consuming. Their riffs shred through the air like jagged steel, solos burn with a fury that can’t be tamed, and blasts hit like an explosion in your chest. They don’t care about trends or softening the blow. Every note is a direct attack, every show a brutal assault. Headbanging is inevitable, the adrenaline is relentless, and the chaos is total. This is metal in its rawest, most savage form. With their “take everything, leave only metal” mentality, Killotine isn’t here to play nice. They deliver exactly what the maniacs demand—pure, unfiltered aggression. No filler, no fake. Just a full-throttle, all-out assault that doesn’t let up, leaving you wrecked and addicted to the chaos. KILLOTINE IS COMING. STAY OUT OF THE WAY OR GET DESTROYED.

Montreal, QC – May 8, 2025

KRATORNAS Reveals “God Of The Tribes” Album Artwork And August Release Date

+ “Ravaged by Hurakaan” Vinyl and Cassette Demo Out May 2025

Following the announcement of the upcoming “Ravaged by Hurakaan” vinyl demo (out May 20th) and remix cassette (out May 30th), extreme metal entity Kratornas has unveiled the official artwork for the highly anticipated full-length album “God of the Tribes” (mastered by Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity)) set for release on August 22nd, 2025, through Grathila Records. In a dramatic departure from previous works, “God of the Tribes” represents a significant shift in Kratornas‘ approach. The mastermind behind the project explains:

“This album marks a turning point for KRATORNAS. Not because it tries to be “different” but because it couldn’t have come out any other way. Every part of this release came together naturally. The sound, the pacing, the tension… it wrote itself, shaped by instinct and intention. This album is unlike the usual Kratornas so to anyone expecting it to sound like “early Kratornas” will be disappointed.”

The striking album artwork perfectly complements the thematic elements of the record, which draws heavily from apocalyptic imagery and ritualistic concepts. Along with the artwork reveal, Kratornas has released an album teaser, giving fans their first glimpse into the sonic evolution that defines “God of the Tribes”.

Kratornas, formed in 1995, stands as the pioneering one-man extreme metal act originally from the Philippines and now based in Saskatoon, Canada. With roots tracing back to the underground tape trading scene of the late 1980s, Kratornas has forged its own path through extreme metal, evolving from its early Satanic themes to apocalyptic visions and now to a more nuanced, ritualistic approach with this upcoming release that is recommended for fans of all sorts of black metal.

This vinyl-exclusive release will not be available in digital format, making it a true collector’s item for dedicated fans. Kratornas will release a remix of the track on cassette (out May 30th). Both the vinyl and the upcoming album were mastered by Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity).

“Ravaged by Hurakaan” serves as track #3 on the upcoming full-length album “God of the Tribes,” giving fans an early taste of what to expect from the new material. “I think it’s a good thing that it is a bit darker for music this intense and with so much “action” in the upper midrange – Dan Swano (on mastering God of the Tribes)

“Kratornas has returned and have taken large steps in progression with their musical maelstrom of violence.” – Canadian Assault (2017 – Human Livestock 7″ EP)

“What’s even better is that the music doesn’t just move in the sense that a rocket moves. The songs are more than sheer exultations in the thrill of speed and violence. They also change course. They veer into hammering grooves; they bolt into bursts of blood-pumping thrash riffing; they pulse like some kind of laser weapon being triggered. Yes, the songs are often deranged — when Kratornas is in full grind mode, you can imagine oceans of blood spray ejected from a fire hose and bodies being atomized in a frenzied butchery — but there’s impressive intricacy and dynamism in the songs, as well as jaw-dropping technical skill and manifest blood lust.” – No Clean Singing (2016 – Devoured by Damnation LP)

“If you like chaotic, blasting Black Metal, then this is a good bet.” (2016 – Devoured by Damnation LP)

“This album is intense. From start to finish Kratornas is absolutely relentless and have put together one hell of an album with a whole lot of everything in the mix without sounding repetitive.” – Metal At The Gates (2016 – Devoured by Damnation LP)

“While its – drum and guitar/voice – format might suggest similarities with the Inquisition, in sound terms are two quite distinct entities. Here there is a greater degree of chaos and a greater departure from the traditional scene (second wave of black metal) than the one we can find ourselves in Inquisition. Basically it is what would happen if we join powerviolence with black metal. It is something that impresses, without a doubt, but that may have a tendency to tire. Fortunately this does not happen much here because all the themes end up having healthy dynamics, mainly a healthy rib of primitive death metal ( plus an element to join the party) and mainly a solo guitar taken from the breca that looks like a bouncing diabolite. Awesome and surprising album.” – World of Metal Mag (2016 – Devoured by Damnation LP)

WOODHAWK Unleashes Powerful New Single “Relapser” From New Album “Love Finds A Way” Out June 2025

L to R: Kevin Nelson (Drums), Turner Midzain (Vocals/ Guitar), Mike Badmington (Bass/ Vocals)

Portrait by Mark Kowalchuk

Calgary, Canada’s fuzz rock trio Woodhawk continues to build momentum toward their June album release with today’s drop of “Relapser”, the second single from their upcoming third studio album “Love Finds A Way”, out June 6, 2025, via Grand Hand Records. The explosive track showcases the band’s evolution while staying true to their foundations in heavy, riff-driven rock. The band shares their thoughts on the single:

“This was one of the last few songs we wrote for the album. It really embodied this new step forward we were taking. Through all the growth and change we go through, it can be really defeating to feel like you fall back into old habits or patterns you are trying to get away from. These demons at the door are always there, trying to drag you back down. Nothing feels better than getting away from it. And nothing feels scarier than getting pulled back in.”

According to the band, “Relapser” represents the balance Woodhawk has always been trying to achieve. It’s got the heaviness their fans expect, but with the emotional honesty that’s become increasingly important in their songwriting. This song especially captures that journey of struggling, falling back into old patterns, but ultimately fighting to move forward.

“Love Finds A Way”, marks Woodhawk’s first full-length release in six years, following 2019’s “Violent Nature”, Woodhawk’s distinctive fusion of classic hard rock and modern stoner metal continues to captivate audiences and earn them a devoted fan base and people who enjoy Black Sabbath, The Sword, and Red Fang.

“Their brand of this style sounds far more refreshing and has a modern rock ‘n roll kind of aura to go along, slightly ringing in signs of alternative influence. The end result is as if Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy had a child born in the age of Chevelle. With that said, this is immaculate. ” – Indy Metal Vault (Violent Nature – 2019)

“this is really the kind of rock that fans of classic U.K. metal in the ’70s will be instantly taken with. Sounds really good turned-up really loud, which is always a good test.” – Vancouver Sun (Violent Nature – 2019)

“Violent Nature kicks off with the slithering riffs of “Snake in the Grass,” which comes crawling up slowly before striking with a venomous fuzz-riffy attack, and a soaring, fist-raising chorus. “Weightless Light” gets my head nodding right away with a solid stoner rock riff, while giving off a pretty decent Monster Truck vibe in the chorus – I can see why they made it the pre-release single.” – Hellbound (Violent Nature – 2019)

“This is what music is about. When you put yourself out there, you connect with others on a deeper level and that’s always a win.” – The Music Below (Violent Nature – 2019)

“Violent Nature surpasses their debut and then some; the Rocky Mountain trio have harnessed the best of the past, given it a fresh coat of paint, made me smile and just enjoy rock and roll in its purest form…” – The Sleeping Shaman (Violent Nature – 2019)

“going by the lead single “Weightless Light” it seems like whatever they’re making the songs about, Woodhawk still bring the same sense of songcraft to their material, which is always good to know.” – The Obelisk (Violent Nature – 2019)

0 Get Your Fix of “Zerotonin” From Canadian Metalcore VICTORIA LIES’ New Music Video + Show Dates at GatorFest, Decimate Metal Fest

Get Your Fix of “Zerotonin” From Canadian Metalcore VICTORIA LIES’ New Music Video

+ Show Dates at GatorFest, Decimate Metal Fest

Pushing the boundaries of its genre with thought-provoking lyrics, heavy grooves, and graceful technicality, by integrating unexpected elements and focusing on what serves the song rather than individual egos, Calgary, AB metalcore band Victoria Lies always aims to deliver a fresh and compelling sound. Formed in 2023, they have released a series of singles, “Trial By Fire” (May 2024) and “…Ready for it?” (December 2024) to introduce themselves to the Canadian metal scene and beyond. Currently working on their first full-length to be released later in 2025, the quintet has one more standalone single to unveil in preparation for upcoming dates at Gatorfest (Calgary, AB) and Decimate Metal Fest (Millet, AB) (listed below).

Entitled “Zerotonin”, the song is about the feeling you get when drugs stop working. You keep reaching for a high that was once attainable and no longer through the means and chemicals you put into your body, yet you keep doing it because if you stop, it will be much worse.

The comments on the track:

“Zerotonin is a play on the word serotonin, only being the opposite of the former. The struggle with watching your body slowly break down while swallowing that next pill, because you might die if you don’t. Recording this song was a very special project for us, as we had recorded it several years ago, but it just fell flat. We did not give this song the love and attention it needed. So when the opportunity came up to go into the studio with our producer and finally give it that injection of passion and attention to detail, we all jumped at the chance. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it for you!”

Recommended for Northlane, Bad Omens, Of Mice and Men, August Burns Red, In Flames, “Zerotonin” can be heard at the following links:

Following the success of their recent single “Debt of Silence,” extreme metal collective Autumn Lies Buried is set to release their second single “Told Off Witta Sawed Off” on May 6th, 2025, via Exitus Straatagem Records. This track continues the band’s mission of delivering aggressive, socially conscious music with a cathartic edge. “Told Off Witta Sawed Off” represents another crucial piece of the upcoming “Mob Mentality” EP scheduled for release on June 6th. The band comments:

“This is an anthem for those who run their mouths but never put their words to action, featuring Dustin Jamaal Mitchell of Filth. How many times has someone run their mouth from safety but never held the same energy when they see you in public? The only thing we want from those plotting our downfall is a whole lotta “leave me alone. Or else…”

The new single showcases vocalist Kaelin’s versatile approach to extreme vocals, who likes to just feel out the energy of a song and decide what to do from there. If it’s bouncy and rhythmic, he likes to rap on it. If it’s low and slow, he likes to get nasty and guttural on the mic.

“Told Off Witta Sawed Off” continues the themes established in the upcoming EP, which the band describes as ‘a call to arms against injustice. Fuel for the fire that cleanses. This release is part of a strategic rollout leading to the June 6th release of “Mob Mentality” EP, which coincides with the first date of the Hell Howler Tour featuring Autumn Lies Buried alongside Casket Robbery. Fans of Suicide Silence, Tech N9ne, and The Acacia Strain should check them out.
