0 Survive The Onslaught of DEFORMATORY’s New EP “Harbinger” Unleashed In Full As A Music Video

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 13, 2022

Survive The Onslaught of DEFORMATORY’s New EP “Harbinger” Unleashed In Full As A Music Video

Ottawa, Canada’s Deformatory are pleased to announce their new EP “Harbinger”, which was meticulously produced by Topon Das of F*ck The Facts at his studio Apartment 2 Recording and is now being presented in its entirety in one special music video. A barrage of deadly riffs, pummeling drums and unholy gutturals will rip through you in true death metal fashion. The band explains in their own words:

“Every song, every riff, and every beat writhes through its own iterations to devour the listener beyond this EP’s 15-minute runtime. Make no mistake: these are 15-minutes you will never get back and you will never recover from. The sheer energy your soul requires to withstand this offering of musical violence will render your very core into a depleted version of itself.”

The video encapsulates exactly what Deformatory brings to the stage – no frills. No bullshit. Just straight-up death metal. The goal is to leave people wondering what the hell just happened. A maniacal frenzy.

The EP’s music video can be seen and heard via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

From their destructive 2013 debut “In The Wake of Pestilence”, on through their crushing 2016 follow-up “Malediction” and into the vortex of insanity from their 2021 masterpiece “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”, Deformatory unrelentingly summon their creative darkness to deliver another slab of ferocious Canadian death metal.

To visually encapsulate the extreme onslaught on “Harbinger”, the artwork was masterfully created by the one and only Paolo Girardi. He has, without any doubt, unveiled one of his best paintings to date for this EP’s cover. Additional haunting artistic creations were devilishly assembled by UK’s Adrian Baxter to further highlight the darkness that binds the death metal brutality of Deformatory’s new EP.

Without acquiescing to the weakness of modern metal, they reach deep into the abyss of infernal intensity to deliver a new offering of blistering madness for those who enjoy heavy, unforgiving bludgeoning sounds similar to Vitriol, old Cryptopsy, and Origin.

This is unequivocal vitriolic rage. This is uncompromising animosity.

This is not trendy. This is not a safe place.

This is a maelstrom of maniacal death metal.

This is DEFORMATORY.

You have been warned.

Heed the Harbinger’s call.

“Harbinger” is available as of September 13, 2022.

“A maniacal riff-fest colliding with pulverizing drumming and grotesquely executed vocals, Impaled Upon The Carrionspire is a memorable journey into a modern death metal portal of chaos. This is beyond a brutal wall of sound; it’s an experience that hooks you in, and guides you through everything you can expect to hear on the new album.” – Metal Injection

“Taking cues from the tech-est and brutal-est of brutal technical death metal, the duo from Canada’s capital have offered up a shining gut punch that sings, screams, wallops, growls and races in the same vein as genre masterclass mainstays as Immolation, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal and Origin. Plus, their name fucking rules!” – Decibel Magazine

“Brutally punchy and laced with annihilating streaks of black metal, cosmic machinations are put into bone-snapping focus through the band’s unrelenting technical death metal.” – Invisible Oranges

“Let’s cut to the chase: Imagine filling a syringe with unadulterated adrenaline, sticking it straight into your carotid artery, and jamming the plunger down with as much force as you can muster. That’s the effect of listening to DEFORMATORY… The whole thing is breathtaking in its careening and cavorting violence.” – No Clean Singing

0 Canadian Metalcore AQUILA Shares Vocal Playthrough “A City Risen” Off New EP “The Great Fire”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 13, 2022

Canadian Metalcore AQUILA Shares Vocal Playthrough “A City Risen” Off New EP “The Great Fire”

Hamilton, ON, Canada’s AQUILA marked their return in 2022, with their new EP “The Great Fire” unleashed this past June. The EP follows their two 2020 EPs “Valle Mortalitatis”(Feb) and“Jewel of the Empire’s Crown”(July).

Historical buffs for the Roman Empire, the four-track concept record speaks of the Roman Emperor Nero who was known for the killing of the Christian population, and The Great Fire of Rome (Jul 18, 64 AD – Jul 23, 64 AD). This recording is musically the most brutal and progressive material the band has written emphasizing the METAL into METALcore once again.

“We write about Roman events and themes like battles and certain emperors. It was brutal times back then, so the listener gets a little history lesson as well. I write my own twists and spice things up for the story in the song.” adds vocalist Mark Arruda.

Today, in support of the new recording, vocalist Mark Arruda is sharing his vocal playthrough for “A City Risen“. He explains the song in further detail:

“The song is at a slower pace, but hits heavy with many hooks. I think it’s my best vocal performance ever. I used my singing range for this one, not just straight death metal vocals for this one.”

The vocal playthrough can be heard and seen via TheCirclePit – https://youtu.be/XGEJ7Eokrnc

Brutal, heavy, and catchy, Aquila‘s “The Great Fire” offers up a rollercoaster ride of the band’s best material to date. From the opening and explosive title track “The Great Fire” to the “Emperor’s Curse”, the most progressive song AQUILA has ever written, that was inspired by their own tune, “Bound For Glory”, from their 2009 debut album “Imperium”, it’s a track that travels into Tool-like drumming and guitars with a catchy hook at the end of it. After a very brutal beheading and crucifixion of Christians to Nero taking his own life, track 3 “A City Risen” is about what Nero is thinking before he takes his life or even after his death. EP closer, “The Plague of Galen” was written when vocalist Mark Arruda and drummer Mark McGuire reconnected just before the Covid pandemic and felt it was fitting to write a song about a plague that happened in Rome many centuries ago. The song has a melodic death metal feel to it that you can certainly headbang to. The breakdown in the middle is crushing, ending with Iron Maiden-influenced guitar playing.

With all its fury and melodic groove, “The Great Fire” is just the next taster for fans old and new alike, as the band continues writing for a full-length album to be released in the near future. The band adds:

“We want our listeners to experience the emotions on this EP, there are elements to headbang to and elements of anger and sadness as well. Each track is different from one another with a lot of hills and valleys.”

Recommended for fans of Gojira, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, and In Flames, AQUILA‘s new EP “The Great Fire”, released on June 30th is available on Spotify, Aquilametal.bandcamp.com (CD), Apple Music.

About:
Aquila is a Canadian metalcore band from Hamilton Ontario. The roots of their sound are from the early 2000s metal scene.

They started in 2006 with Matt McGuire (drums) and Anthony Rimac (guitarist) in Windsor Ontario. In 2009, Aquila entered the studio with Chase Bryant (current bassist for Warbringer), Matt Shelson (guitarist), and Mark Arruda (vocalist) and began working on their debut album, Imperium, with Glenn Fricker in Windsor, Ontario. From 2009 to 2013, they toured for their album across Canada, including a lengthy east and west coast tour, and multiple weekly shows in Ontario. Sharing the stage with the likes of Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Misery Index, Threat Signal, and many more, Aquila with their aggressive stage attitude can sure entertain and work the crowd.

In 2020, Aquila released 2 Eps, Valle Mortalitatis and Jewel of the Empire’s Crown. The 7 songs were recorded back in 2013 with Glenn Fricker, but were never released at that time.

Now with new guitarist Tony Medina and bassist Colin Wakil, Aquila worked hard to release a new EP called The Great Fire in 2022. The 4 songs were written, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Aquila. A video for the title track, The Great Fire, was recorded by the band as well.

“We started writing for this EP in 2020. The pandemic made it very difficult to get together. We also had to find a new guitarist. Once Tony joined the band he quickly learned the songs and started helping us record and mix ourselves. No pressure, just us in our element. I think the growth and maturity in our sound on this Ep. is obvious. This Ep is us, brutal and in your face.” – Mark Arruda – Aquila

Aquila’s latest EP “The Great Fire” was released on June 30th, 2022, and is available on all digital platforms.

“Aquila strikes that excellent balance between aggression, heaviness, and constructing memorable earworms that keeps up listener engagement. The Great Fire embodies an ideal melodeath metalcore product – ready to take the band up from the underground into making worldwide impressions with their music.” – Dead Rhetoric (2022)

“There are plenty of great guitar solos and fills on this album, with the ones in ‘Bound For Glory’ and ‘Within These Flames’ especially standing out…. Aquila’s “Imperium” brings the fury back to metalcore, creating an album full of aggressive vocals and face-melting riffs and solos. “Imperium” is a mostly great debut from a band that’s hopefully on its way to even greater heights.” – Metal Underground (2010)

“A notable difference between Aquila and other Southern Ontario bands is that they thrash throughout their songs, have great guitar leads and refrain from plastering breakdowns throughout their music. They keep it raw and interesting…. Everyone should pick up a copy of Imperium next time Aquila comes to your town. Fans of Assassinate The Following, Unearth, Bloodshoteye and Odium will headbang to Aquila. This band will be legend… Wait for it…. dary.” – V13 (2011)

This Is Not A “Hoax” – Violin Prog Metal CYDEMIND Unveil First Single Off Upcoming Album “The Descent”

Sophomore Album “The Descent” Out Nov 4th

L-R – Camille Delage (piano and keyboards), Kevin Paquet (guitars), Olivier Allard (Violin), Nico Damoulianos (Bass), Alexandre Dagenais (Drummer)

Canadian instrumental progressive metal quintet CYDEMIND is back with a new song, “Hoax”, out now on all digital platforms. It is also the band’s first music video since their acclaimed prog metal version of Vivaldi’s “Winter” concerto.

The Montreal-based band is ecstatic to finally reveal some new music in preview to their forthcoming sophomore album “The Descent” to follow their 2017 debut “Erosion”.

“Hoax is one of the first songs we wrote for the new album, so it’s been finished for a while!” says violinist Olivier Allard. “I think it took us 3 or 4 days to write that one (it usually takes 3 or 4 months to finish one!), so it all came up pretty instinctively.”

“It’s the most fun, summeresque song of the album, so we hope our fans enjoy it!” adds bassist Nico Damoulianos. “We’re also very proud of the music video; it fits the song perfectly and demonstrates very well how much fun we have playing it!”

As the name implies, “Hoax” is not the typical prog metal song you’re used to hearing. “There are funk elements all over the place in this one,” explains drummer Alexandre Dagenais. “We like to brand Hoax as a Funk Metal song because it really is borrowing vibes from both genres. We always liked funk bands like Vulfpeck or Snarky Puppy, and we always felt like their music would sound well with a little metal injection. So it’s basically what we did!”

The music video was filmed in March 2022 in the Studios Frisson, Montréal, which is also where CYDEMIND recorded the grand piano tracks for its upcoming installment. The video was entirely produced, directed, and edited by Vincent Allard, Olivier’s brother.

The video for “Hoax” can be seen and heard via its premiere on EverythingIsNoise HERE.

Sheet music for “Hoax” is available here: https://cydemind.bandcamp.com/merch/hoax-sheet-music-pdf

Cydemind’s new album “The Descent” will showcase seven new tracks lasting just under 60 minutes. “With The Descent, we delved into the concept of obsessions and the abysses into which they can plunge the human mind,” says Olivier Allard, violinist.

“The album takes us along one’s descent into hell,” explains guitarist Kevin Paquet. “The first track, Obsessions, acts as an opening. The song contains rhythmic and melodic motifs from each of the tracks on the album. The opening melody acts a bit like the leitmotif of the obsession (whichever it is), returning several times throughout the course of the album. We follow this up with Hoax, a song that incorporates several elements of funk. As hinted by the name of the track, you should not expect the album to respect that tone; on the contrary, the music gradually shifts into something much more sinister and complex.”

The band’s lineup remains the same for this second release: Olivier Allard (violin), Nico Damoulianos (bass guitar), Alexander Dagenais (drums), Camille Delage (piano and keyboards), and Kevin Paquet (guitars)

The album was mixed by Simon L’Espérance (Karcius) and mastered by Tony Lindgren (Fascination Street Studios). The cover art for the album was created by Alexander Dagenais.

CYDEMIND’s new album “The Descent” will be out on November 4th, 2022.

“Violin metal shredders, Cydemind, has just released a beautiful new video for their “Winter” single, using the gorgeous backdrop of Quebec, Canada. The neo-classical prog track showcases the amazing abilities of this young band on the rise, with captivating hooks that’ll leave you awestruck and hitting up their Bandcamp page for more!” – Metal Injection

“The instrumental band puts the violin front and center, which is strange (if not unheard of) in and of itself. They’ve also released a sweet cover of Vivaldi’s “L’inverno” (“Winter”), from The Four Seasons, which is definitely the first time in the 12+ years of MetalSucks that we’ve had to type that sentence… and they’ve done so when we’re just about a week away from the first day of spring, which was a ballsy decision. And on top of all of that, they made a really, really beautiful video for the track out on the frozen tundras of Québec. Do they have tundras in Québec? Whatever. The video looks really cool. Also, cold. I got mild frostbite just watching it.” – Metal Sucks

“presented what will easily be among the top prog metal albums of the year…” – Metal Underground

“An epic album in every sense of the word” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Cydemind have shown me two things on this debut album: they’re damn good musicians, and they have the ability to write compelling music that sticks with you. ” – Angry Metal Guy

Rockshots Records announces its signing of the international collective Silent Angel, an Italian / Malaysian-based band that has its foundations deeply rooted in power and symphonic metal with a mix of progressive along with Japanese metal influence.

Silent Angel will be releasing their first full-length entitled “Unyielding, Unrelenting” for release in 2023.

Originally formed in 2000, and taking over a decade-long hiatus, the band returned in 2015, the band returned with a fresh new lineup and released two EPs along with gaining support on American, Canadian, Italian, Australian and UK radio stations. After the Japan tours, Silent Angel returned to the studios to record their full-length album, but unfortunately were struck with tragedy with the untimely passing of their bass player putting the recording on pause.

NEWS RELEASE

Italian proggers EVEN FLOW are shining a “Ray of Light” with their next single off their forthcoming EP “Mediterraneo” due out on October 3rd, 2022. The track’s lyrics speak of love towards a girl, characterized by a clean guitar intro, together with a keyboard that creates very beautiful melodies, at the end, the guitar harmonizations create a somewhat Arabic-influenced sound.

The video for “Ray of Light” can be seen and heard at https://youtu.be/srBJPVOW-uo

EVEN FLOW‘s new recording “Mediterraneo” follows their three EPs “Dream Weaver” (2008), “Mother” (2019), and “Flower Paths” (2013), and two albums “Life Has Just Begun” (2017) and “Ancient Memories (2011).

“Mediterreano” sees the band approaching the record with progressive metal in the rhythm with vocal lines oriented towards power metal with AOR eighties influences. Lyrically, the EP speaks of love, hope, sadness, and joy for the future. Guitarist Pietro Paolo Lunesu explains the record in further detail:

“The five songs that makeup Mediterraneo are gloriously uplifting anthems that draw you from your world of cares and worries into an exhilarating musical realm of dreams. The songs are concise and finely honed, yet seem to contain an ever-expanding universe to explore within their duration. For example, the title track, ‘Mediterraneo’, is perhaps the EPs crowning glory, building through multiple layers, each more captivating than the last, but in truth every note from the first bombastic chords that usher in opener ‘Ocean Lies’ to the final spiraling guitar solo of ‘Mediterraneo’ is sheer melodic, progressive metal perfection.”

The EP was immaculately mixed and mastered by Michele Guaitoli (Visions Of Atlantis, Temperance) with spectacular artwork by Mickael Briot of Mythrid Art (Nightmare).

“Mediterraneo” also features Even Flow‘s new lineup with vocalist Marco Pastorino (Fallen Sanctuary, Temperance) and bassist Luca Negro (Temperance) joining the Lunesu brothers Pietro Paolo (guitar) and Giorgio (drums).

Over the years, since making their debut in 2008 with their EP “Dream Weaver”, Even Flow has done multiple tours across Europe and has supported bands such as Serious Black, Firewind, Eluveitie, Iron Savior, Katatonia, Orphaned Land, Katatonia, Pain Of Salvation among many more.

“Mediterraneo” is the next majestic level of achievement for Even Flow and is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Stratovarius, Angra, and Queensryche.

0 NoCleanSinging Presents New Single “Avarice” Off Féleth’s Upcoming Album “Divine Blight” (Mixed and Mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy))

Montreal, QC – September 9, 2022

NCS Presents New Single “Avarice” Off Féleth’s Upcoming Album “Divine Blight”

Mixed and Mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy)

Norway’s Féleth has a rockin’ new album coming out this year, and they are premiering their second single “Avarice”. They released their first single “Majesty” recently and considering it is the first track on the album and “Avarice” is the last, they stand as the pillars keeping eight crushing tracks between them. Through their technical metal blended with melodic death metal, they try to invoke a feeling of calculated brutalism, mixed with some grim undertones. The singles they’re releasing are first and foremost an appetizer for what’s to come.

“Avarice” was written by just jamming, which one can easily hear in certain parts where the instruments are chaotic, yet totally in line with each other. A somewhat basic song structure, but with highly aggressive riffs and big atmospheric leads. At the end, they transposed the chorus down half a step turning the song into borderline black metal out of nowhere. Lyrically, we are witnessing the king-like figure from “Majesty”, declaring war on everything and itself. The hook is written in the first person from the view of the general greed and hate that lies in the hearts of men, but grimmer. A song focused more on vocal delivery than epic poetry. Féleth explains the song further:

“When it came to choosing our second single it was a bit more of a hassle. Eventually, it came down to “Avarice”. True to tradition, we wrote one song as a band. Meaning we made it together at a rehearsal. It has a different vibe than most other songs we have. Having shared small bits and pieces with some of our close friends who are also fans, we expect people to be genuinely positively surprised when they hear our evolution from the more old-school approach to melodic death metal. While still holding onto our ‘’sound’’, we’ve gone a bit more technical and focused on better song structures with bigger hooks, taking inspiration from bands such as Shadow of Intent.”

Féleth was formed off remnants from a thrash metal band, which brought in Espen Dagenborg for more extreme vocals. They wanted to go deeper into the more extreme and technical aspects of metal and thus have made it their own.

Féleth’s brand of Northern Norwegian technical death rock is recommended for fans of Shadow of Intent, Archspire, and Fit For An Autopsy.

“Avarice” can be heard via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

The album “Divine Blight” comes out on November 11, 2022.

TheProgSpace Premiering SEVENTH STATION’s Music Video For “The Heart of a Nation (Nadia)”

New Album “Heal the Unhealed” Out November 7th

Seventh Station is a progressive metal band based in Slovenia, who are excited to announce their second album “Heal the Unhealed”. The record is an international effort – rehearsed and recorded through five different studios on three continents ranging from the United States, Slovenia, and Turkey. A new level of musicality and artistic expression blends magnificent sweeps, heavy riffs, and intricate melodies together, creating an eclectic proggy frame for personal topics. The second single is “The Heart of a Nation (Nadia)”.

In the album, guitarist Dmitri Alperovich wanted to bring his personal point of view on his roots as a Soviet Union child. Spending his childhood in the Soviet Union, then his youth in Israel, and finally having moved to Slovenia, he went through a lot of different circumstances and the processes of adaptation for each – also resulting in anxiety and panic attacks after all these significant paradigm shifts. “Heal The Unhealed” is a personal reflection on these experiences and the psychological states they brought, voiced through different characters, including the primary actors of the conditions in the Soviet Union. He continues to explain:

“While the album started to take shape as the lyrical content and the general concepts were formed, this song became the first part of the Soviet Union / Stalin trilogy, which later became the main topic of the album. The song describes the poisonous relationship between the former Soviet Union leader, Joseph Stalin, and his second wife Nadezhda Sergeyevna Alliluyeva (Nadia). The official video was shot in Jerusalem, featuring contemporary dance choreography, put together by choreographer Maya Popova and the co-creator Anatoly Shenfeld.”

Having studied classical music and being an avid fan of many other music genres, Alperovich’s idea of Seventh Station emerged from applying the knowledge and techniques from classical music in to progressive metal, creating a platform for him to express his ideas. The result is daring, colourful, and artistic. Seventh Station is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Symphony X, and Opeth.

The music video for “The Heart of a Nation (Nadia)” can be seen and heard via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

The full album “Heal the Unhealed” comes out on November 7, 2022.

Album pre-order is available at http://www.seventh-station.com.

About: Seventh Station is a progressive metal band based in Slovenia, led by Israeli Guitarist Dmitri Alperovich and Turkish Keyboardist Eren Başbuğ. Constructing their sound by fusing progressive metal with contemporary classical music, the band’s new album Healed the Unhealed is their second full-length record, released independently. Featuring an international lineup, Davidavi “Vidi” Dolev (Vocals), Jure Lopatic (Bass), and Grega Plamberger (Drums). On their new record, Seventh Station adds to their “on the edge” performances and compositions more blood, more sweat, and more tears.

Formed between the Academy of Music & Dance in Jerusalem and Berklee College of Music in Boston, Seventh Station released its debut album Between Life and Dreams in 2016. After relocating to Europe and a few line-up changes, Alperovich and Başbuğ knew no borders in the search for uncompromising compositions and musical executors, progressive and challenging. After several tours between the Middle East and post-Yugoslavia, the band gathered together on recording ‘Heal the Unhealed’. Inspired by the Second World War and the Soviet Union, the album is an hour-long reflection in the eyes of Alperovich, who was born in Minsk, Belarus, moved to Israel and eventually found his way to Slovenia. Featuring surrealistic epos, harnessing the band’s skillful abilities in order to express Kafkaesque situations, Heal the Unhealed examines resemblances between dictatorships and the personality disorders of an artist.

Seventh Station is now gearing up for their upcoming record Heal the Unhealed released on November 7th, 2022, along with a supporting tour through Europe and the Middle East, to be announced later this Fall.

Boston’s PISTACIA Channel The Emo Days Of Old With New Metalcore Track “It Was The Cat”

New EP “Edgy” Out October 2022

Boston’s Pistacia is bringing forth a new brand of metalcore with their debut EP “Edgy”. Through personal and poignant lyrics they confront relatable issues set to emotional and powerful music. So far, they have released a handful of singles, and the next one up is “It Was The Cat”, focusing on self-harm. Making music for people who are scared and voiceless is their passion and they are not afraid to get specific about what happens in the mind of the mentally ill. On this single, they offer hope and understanding and a flashback to the days when people used the explanation that “the cat did it” in reference to marks on their arms. The band explains the creation of the single:

“The single began almost accidentally; Ben and Théo were in Florida on tour with their former band, exhausted from the road and performance, and aching to write some new music that would reflect the artistic changes they’d undergone as a result. Ben cracked away at that which he does best: writing filthy hardcore riffs and Théo took initiative to make as poppy a chorus arrangement as possible. Years later, the track was revived and Vic worked her magic, pouring her anguish and rage into finely tuned stanzas that packed punch. They entered a Berklee rehearsal room with sketches, with the makings of a metal banger, and left with the instantiation of their ardor”.

Pistacia formed when vocalist Vic Gregg desired to be on stage instead of behind the merch booth. Fueled by passion and a desire to realize her high school dreams, she learned how to scream and put the lineup together with her classmates. They started as a Pierce the Veil ensemble but later began writing originals. To date, they have released five singles, and are gearing up to release their EP in the fall. They promise that each of the tracks on it are full-fledged bangers that will provoke and challenge the listener.

“It Was The Cat” is heavy in both lyrics and music and boasts sick breakdowns and the most 2007 chorus since MySpace reigned the internet. It’s catchy and will have you dancing regardless of the dark imagery. It is recommended for fans of Pierce the Veil, Slipknot, and Bring Me the Horizon.

About: In late 2019, Vic Gregg founded Gen-Z, an emo-throwback metalcore outfit. Members Ron Bernhaut, Theo Chaouat, Ben Sonsire-Cummings, and Thomson Estabrook complete the aesthetic onslaught that comprises Pistacia’s live show—in the scene’s dearth of energetic performance, the band found their niche, bringing blistering riffs to tight compact venues with pure animus and palpable vitriol. They have a nostalgia-borne affinity for all things emo and maintain a reckless proclivity for gothic imagery and provocative allure. With a marriage between heavy breakdowns, catchy choruses, and pathos-driven lyrics, Pistacia is that edgy, rebellious act you’ve been craving.

Vancouver’s HUNTING GIANTS Ponder Domination And Avarice In “Too Big To Kill”

New Album “Mythos” Out Sept 30th

“Mythos” is the second release from Canada’s Hunting Giants following their 2018 EP “Skyward Eyes”. They have upped the ante with this new record, offering bigger riffs, wilder stories, and more layers to entangle listeners. The primary themes in their next single “Too Big To Kill” are domination and avarice, as told through the eyes of a hunter.

The track immediately starts with a riff that brings to mind the thrill of the hunt which is encapsulated by the lyrical repetition of ‘Row’ as our anti-hero cuts through the waves, hot on the trail of his next quarry. As the instruments are hushed, the lyrics speak from the perspective of a man who desires only domination and finds satisfaction in ending the lives of those he hunts. The band continues:

“One of the major singles on the Mythos album, Too Big To Kill is a non-stop adventure with the highs and lows of the raging rapids. This unending momentum builds throughout the song revealing how remorseless yet effective he is at killing until we arrive at the bridge, where the tables are turned and he finds himself fleeing from the beast which he sought to trap. This song is an exploration of those who love violence and the inevitable bloody end which they attract towards themselves.”

For Hunting Giants, their lyrics come from within. They can be inspired by pieces of literature, emotion derived from lived experiences, or ideas which take root within the mind and must be expressed through song. They encapsulate emotion while being entertaining and thought-provoking, giving the lister yet another layer to focus on amidst the riffs and melodies.

“Mythos” is a unique album expressed with a great diversity of energetic auditory textures. Each song hits hard with novel approaches and fresh ideas that will induce a comforting nostalgia in modern rock fans looking for something new and awesome.

Energetic, theatrical, and groovy, Hunting Giants is recommended for fans of Audioslave, Muse, and Tool.

The lyric video “Too Big To Kill” can be seen and heard via its premiere on AllAboutTheRock HERE.

The album “Mythos” is out on September 30, 2022.

Delve Into The Expansiveness Of The Universe With The Spacey Single “Home” From Colorado’s OBSIDIAN SKIES

Debut EP “Saturnian” Out October 2022

Mixed and Mastered by Tom MacLean (ex-Haken, Athemon, Brutta)

While based in Colorado, USA, Obsidian Skies creates music in the sci-fi realm, transporting listeners to grandiose worlds set to epic progressive melodic death metal. The duo of Logan Dougherty (guitars/piano/orchestration) and Tim Watervoort (guitars/basses/vocals) use their backgrounds in physics, astrophysics, composition, and linguistics to elevate the themes, structure, and performance of their music. After working steadily over the past couple of years, they are thrilled to announce their spacey debut EP “Saturnian” (mixed and mastered by Tom MacLean (ex-Haken, Athemon, Brutta)) and the first single “Home”.

“Home” is less of a story, but more of one man’s lament for his former home and the exploration of his emotions. He goes through cycles of culture shock and a longing for a world that is no more. Eventually, he comes to terms with his situation and sees the potential in his new home. Starting with an acoustic guitar, “Home” is lighter than the other tracks on the EP, much of this song feels like one that could be sung around a campfire, thinking of days gone by. When the distorted guitars enter, they serve more to provide foundation than a true featured part to keep with the aesthetic. Harsh vocals are present in this song, but to a much smaller degree than the other two. Harmonically, this song features jazzy major 7th chords to give it a warmer feel. The band comments on the track:

“When we first came up with the concept of this song, we knew we wanted a more intimate, acoustic piece, but we were honestly afraid that it would not turn out at all how we envisioned. When we began writing it, we had two disjointed riffs that we knew we wanted in the song but no real way of transitioning between them. Since the song is so vocally driven, it was difficult to get a grasp of what it would sound like before it was recorded. Hearing the first playthrough of it after recording (but before mixing) was a sigh of relief for both of us as we had actually managed to pull it together. This song definitely “fell into place” more than the other two did.”

The EP follows the story of humankind abandoning Earth for Saturn’s moon Titan. The emotional and physical struggles of leaving our home planet are explored through both the music and the lyrics. Obsidian Skies hopes to take the listener through this journey in a concept album, but they believe the songs are capable of standing on their own as well.

Recommended for fans of anything sci-fi, especially those who enjoy the music of Amon Amarth, Insomnium, and Opeth, the single “Home” can be heard via its premiere in MetalInsider HERE.

The EP “Saturnian” is being released on October 14, 2022.
