Rockshots Records – Return To AVALAND – New Album “The Legend of the Storyteller” Out March 2023

Streaming First Single “Crimson Tyranny”

Album Guests Zak Stevens (ex-Savatage/TSO), Madie (ex-Nightmare/Faith In Agony), Pierre “Cara” Carabalona (Eltharia),
Ivan Castelli (Lionsoul), Angèle Macabiès, Jens Ludwig (Edguy), Bruno Ramos (Sortilège/ex-Manigance)

The mystical world of Avaland returns in 2023 with the fantasy symphonic power metal band’s sophomore full-length “The Legend of the Storyteller” due out on March 31st, 2023 via Rockshots Records following their 2021 debut “Theater of Sorcery”.

Compared to its predecessor, “The Legend Of The Storyteller” is heavier and is a much more epic power metal record full of anthems upon anthems for fans to chant to as they are taken on a journey over twelve theatric tracks. The record also hears double vocal duties from Adrien G. Gzagg and Jeff Kanji along with album guests that include Zak Stevens (ex-Savatage/TSO), Madie (ex-Nightmare/Faith In Agony), Pierre “Cara” Carabalona (Eltharia), Ivan Castelli (Lionsoul), Angèle Macabiès, Jens Ludwig (Edguy) and Bruno Ramos (Sortilège/ex-Manigance).

Lead by Adrien G. Gzagg (Autor/Composer/Lead Singer/Synths and Orchestrations), the album’s storyline is aprequel to the band’s first album “Theater of Sorcery” as he explains further:

“This album, as the first one, is a journey, a trip out of our world, into the universe of Avaland. We enjoy seeing Avaland as a great saga, as a movie, or series. We feel like listening to Avaland is like watching Game Of Thrones, The Lord Of The Rings, or reading comics, it’s an escape from everyday life. For this album, we took a lot of inspiration from Game Of Thrones and Arthurian Myths. We love fantasy and mythologies and we also find ourselves having a great fascination for alchemy and esoterism. Time is also a great subject, it’s mystical… in fact, time will be at the center of this saga. This new opus is showing a heavier and darker atmosphere of Avaland’s theatrical universe. Are you ready to be part of “The Legend Of The Storyteller”?”

Avaland‘s first single in support of “The Legend Of The Storyteller” is entitled “Crimson Tyranny” (feat. Cara, Madie & Zak Stevens).

“This song is the first one I composed for this album. It defines the atmosphere for this new album: darker than “Theater Of Sorcery”, but also more epic, especially with its mighty chorus (with some Blind Guardian influences). It’s a mind-sticking song, beware of this infernal hook “Crimson! Tyranny!”. The title of the song is a tribute to “In the Court of the Crimson King” by King Crimson.” adds Adrien G. Gzagg.

In additional news, Avaland will be touring Europe during spring 2023 supporting legendary bands Rhapsody Of Fire and Sortilège.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 13, 2022

Rockshots Records – Out Now! Tolkien Inspired Power Metallers RuinThrone New Album “The Unconscious Mind Of Arda”

Out Now! Italian fantasy power metallers RuinThrone release their J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired sophomore album “The Unconscious Mind Of Arda” via Rockshots Records.

“The Unconscious Mind Of Arda” is the follow-up to their 2013 debut album “Urban Ubris”. “The Unconscious Mind Of Arda” is composed of storied songs inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s poem, “Legendarium”. The band hopes the concepts they wrote can be “messengers” of reflection for their listeners, turning in a better awareness of their daily life.

“We all think that this album will be interesting for all power metal lovers but it will also give a new way of telling about fantasy in the music field. Everyone who enjoys Tolkien will find intimacy in a wide and complex world, narrated and put into music with strong attention to every detail, while trying to inspire feelings and moods that always have fascinated us.

We focused on an alternative point of view of some stories written by Tolkien. We thought it would have been interesting to explore the mind of the main villains: Morgoth, the Witch-king, and Gothmog. The main concept is to develop a poem with no need for heroes. It’s a world populated by humanized characters creating a correspondence with the listener’s life.” adds the band.

“The Unconscious Mind Of Arda” is mixed and mastered by Giuseppe Orlando (sound tech for Rhapsody of Fire) at the Outer Sound Studios.

The album is now available as of January 13th, 2023 at the following links

Descend Into Hell With Canadian Deathcore APOLLO’s “Abandon All Hope” Off Forthcoming EP “A Divine Comedy” Out Jan 2023

L-R – Kyle Prusky (Guitars, Bass), Adrian Parcioaga (Vocals)

Apollo is the creation of the dynamic duo of Kyle Prusky (guitars, bass) and Adrian Parcioaga (vocals) who, since working together in Our Last Crusade have developed excellent chemistry, which shines through in their heavy, atmospheric, progressive deathcore. They have been working away on their newest concept EP “A Divine Comedy”, which follows the classic story of Dante as he descends into hell, and the single “II: Abandon All Hope” is the first glimpse into the madness. Prusky explains further:

“This EP isn’t simply a collection of songs that we put out and see if people like it. This is a classic tale centered around the very ideas that helped shape hundreds of years of religious history in Europe. My hope is that listeners will enjoy the story of Dante venturing through the rings of Hell. My hope is that listeners will feel as if they are listening to a piece of art.”

The single is the second chapter of this epic, where the journey begins in earnest. Dante is urged to turn back or abandon all hope if he enters Hell itself. The lyrics try to communicate a feeling of disgust and horror at these initial rings of Hell, closely following Dante’s own reactions. Musically, this is when the record builds intensity, it is intended to be overwhelming, daunting at times, and chaotic so that people can feel the effects of the journey ahead.

Apollo originally started as Prusky’s solo side project, allowing him to collaborate with many talented individuals and resulting in the culmination of all his experiences. It’s a project that ended up bringing him and Parcioaga close together as a team. They hope that for listeners, this EP can be a breath of fresh air and that the listener experiences some sort of cathartic personal journey throughout. Ideally, it would have a profound impact on something they have been struggling with, and can see the beauty behind the blood, sweat, and tears that went into this concept.

Unrelenting, elegant, and atmospheric, “A Divine Comedy” is recommended for fans of Slice the Cake, Between the Buried and Me, and The Contortionist.

Listen to “II: Abandon All Hope” via its premiere on TheCirclePit – https://youtu.be/uhsV3zniPSk

Canada’s All Else Fails have been working on their latest EP “The Incident at Black Lake” for the last two years and released it this past September. Intended to be listened to as a whole, it is a personal foray into the darkness of depression and the torment of addiction. To round the EP out, the final track is a cover of “Crystal Mountain” originally performed by Death.

According to Chuck Schuldiner, the song deals with the troubles they had with their former neighbours in Florida. Religious bigots, they lived in their ‘crystal mountain’ and stood against everyone else. While attending church regularly they disapproved and criticized all those around them. Schuldiner quips:

“Religion certainly isn’t a bad thing, but if it serves to make somebody feel better while hurting others and then go to church to beseech God for forgiveness on Sunday morning…I guess it doesn’t work very well (laugh).”

All Else Fails shares their thoughts on the track:

“This is a song we love and felt that we could cover faithfully at its core, while adding our own twists to its soundscape, to justify its existence. Lyrically it speaks to religious oppression on a personal and community level.”

Guitarist/vocalist Barrett Klesko wrote his parts while being submerged in the darkest, most distressed headspace he has ever been in resulting in the intensely dark “The Incident at Black Lake”. He cites that through the fog and sensation of reality warping around him, he somehow found clarity in his writing. He thinks this EP is beautiful, there is elegance in darkness; it’s sad because he knows the turmoil and pain it took to write it, and that it’s powerful because it’s the first time he has truly been honest in his music.

Technical, melodic, and haunting, the EP is recommended for fans of Revocation, Soilwork, and Fleshgod Apocalypse.

The video for “Crystal Mountain” can be seen and heard via its premiere on TheCirclePit – https://youtu.be/Fx5mMMgOZy0

The EP “The Incident at Black Lake” was released on September 30, 2022.

About:

Over the last 15 years, Edmonton, Alberta based award-winning metal band All Else Fails has become a cornerstone of the melodic heavy metal community in Canada. Combining intense riffs, intricate rhythm sections, brutal guttural screams, and melodic yet unusual vocal lines paired with relevant and relatable lyrics, All Else Fails’ message resonates with us all.

Formed in 2006 with the release of their self-titled EP, All Else Fails has gone on to release 9 studio albums, many of which have garnered awards and nominations from across the Canadian music industry and have propelled the band into live performances all over the world, including their massively successful tour of India in 2017.

For the past two years, the band has been hard at work writing their new EP “The Incident at Black Lake.” A deeply personal, brutally honest, and staggeringly complex take on the reality-bending mental struggles of vocalist and founder, Barrett Klesko (The Misfires, The Order of Chaos). The band is filled out by guitarist John Saturley (The Order of Chaos, Skepsis), bassist and vocalist Coco Lee (Eternal Prophecy), and drummer Nelson Collins-Lee (The 21st Agenda, Skepsis). The EP is produced by Bevin Booth of In the Booth Recordings and engineered at The Electric Treehouse in Edmonton, Alberta.

In 2022, the band is returning to their DIY roots by mindfully abandoning their social media and redirecting their energy to contributing to their local metal scene by building a direct personal connection to their fans and followers, living in line with a humanist philosophy and encouraging a culture of support between artists. All Else Fails’ new single “Flesh /Excess /Wealth” drops in early September with the full EP “The Incident at Black Lake” releasing September 30th. Fans can experience their explosive new live show this fall in Western Canada.

“The Incident at Black Lake might be “just” a four-track EP by All Else Fails, but its 25 minutes of music are absolutely intense and electrifying, proving why they’re undoubtedly one of the most important names of the Canadian Metalcore scene.” – The Headbanging Moose

“The EP itself is a cyclone of melodic metalcore fire, death metal toxicity and progressive imagination revealing ALL ELSE FAILS at their most open, intense and thrilling.” – The Ringmaster Review

“Being dark in nature, it tells the suffering that Klesko was facing and what he was seeing in his head. While very dark at times, it’s mind-bendingly beautiful to see it from this perspective. And I can’t wait to hear what else the band has to offer.” 4/5 – Metal Epidemic

“Canadian band All Else Fails are out with the EP “The Incident at Black Lake”, and this is a production that probably will be of interest to some fans of progressive metal. While a variety of a core based style of metal is at the heart of the proceedings here, the different vocal tones, the changes and alterations over to atmospheric laden and melodic metal, what might be described as thrash metal as well as some quirky instrument movements and expressive arrangement choices does add what I’d describe as a progressive spirit to the proceedings here… If metalcore with an expressive orientation and progressive aspirations sounds interesting to you, this is an EP you might consider becoming a bit more familiar with.” – Progressor

0 CRS Find Melodic Death Metal Success With New Single “The Failure”

  • January 12, 2023

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 12, 2023

CRS Find Melodic Death Metal Success With New Single “The Failure”

CRS – L-R – Tavo Ramirez (Drums), Kello Gonzalez (Bass), Kath Danzig (guest vocals) – Hideki Inukai (Guitar), Sir Oz (Vocals), Francisco Oroz (Guitar)

Hailing from Sonora, Mexico, the death metal act CRS started back in 1991, and since then has been cranking out punishing technical riffs, and evil growls. Their beginning influences were in the realm of technical death metal and death metal, but they have always sought out different song structures and embraced fusion. They have a new single featuring guest vocals from Kath Danzig coming out that takes them in a new direction toward the melodic end of the spectrum. “The Failure” talks about how we, as a human race, have failed. Not caring about tomorrow, nor the young ones, we are a failure. A disgrace to intelligence. How there is no empathy, just emptiness. The band explains further:

“CRS has always wanted to be versatile. We want to offer music that we like, we never think about music styles, but about a good metal song. In the case of “The Failure” we made an exception, we did seek to make a “melodic death metal” since we had never done it before, even though we really like that style. The single has an important message, humanity is a failure and it has screwed up the whole planet. Having a female guttural singer as a guest brings an interesting shine to the band.”

CRS has always loved clean guitar passages and melodic guitar solos, so this time we wanted to compose a full-death melodic song, at least their version. It has a comfortable structure, but without losing the intensity that they have come to be known for. It will still be recognizable for current fans and add a new dimension that will intrigue those who are hearing them for the first time.

“The Failure” wasn´t originally for CRS, but they liked it so much that they kept it. They cite that the freshness comes from the freedom in thinking it was for someone else. With both English and Spanish vocals, it stands out among other songs in the genre. It is recommended for fans of Meshuggah, Fear Factory, and Carcass.

Listen to “The Failure” ft. guest vocals from Kath Danzig via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

About: CRS is a Death Metal band from Sonora, Mexico, formed in 1991 with the name Cirrosis by Francisco “Chucky” Oroz and Sir OZ, are the only original members in the current lineup. Due to their technical capacity to adhere to progressive elements and melodic solos, CRS quickly gained notoriety in the local and national scene. Their live performances were characterized by intensity and fury, becoming a cult band. In 1996, “Joseph Lev” joined the band and they recorded their first demo “La Tierra de la Adicción” which was distributed limitedly. In 1999, CRS entered the studio and recorded the album “Reciclando Desesperación” in Spanish, offering a range of different Death Metal styles, highlighting the quality of its production.

In 2001, CRS decided to break up, and its members continued with their personal and professional projects. In 2014, Concreto Records decided to reissue the album “Reciclando Desesperación” describing it as “The maladaptive sound that disturbed a style in Mexico that can currently give lessons to current modern bands”.

In 2019, CRS returned to record their second studio album “The Collector of Truths” with Concreto Records. Two international musicians play as guests in the album, Kevin Talley (Dying

Fetus, Suffocation, Chimaira), on drums, and Linus Klausenitzer (Obscura, Alkaloid) on bass. In September 2020, CRS recorded a Live Session for the Mexican online festival “Moshfest” which became an EP called “Live in isolotation” featuring Kello Gonzalez on bass, who became an official member on December 2021.

In March 2022, they released a new single titled “The enemy has always been me”. In October 2022, CRS played live after twenty years with the Brazilian band Sepultura. On that same date, Hideki Inukai joined the band on the second guitar.

“Where this album shines the most is in its flow. Throughout its eight tracks, CRS manages to build momentum song after song. There are fast parts and great guitar solos aplenty. However, CRS never slip on their songwriting. It’s an album that’s just always in that groovy death zone. Even when tracks like “The Daydreamer’s Nightmare” takes us into a spaced-out, relaxed solo or others like “The Art of Breathing”, that takes the album down a notch, CRS really lose nothing. They manage to bring a lot of out of their sound. Hell, “A Better Place to Hate” and ” “Tan Lejos de Dios (Nowhere.. But Here)” both have some tasty, thrashy bits to open them up.” – Metal Injection

“Now, as we nearly enter a new decade, CRS have returned with a full-length of groove/death metal with a technical spark. This spark comes in the form of shredding guitar solos and guest spots from drummer Kevin Talley on a few songs and Obscura/Alkaloid bassist Linus Klausenitzer on “The Art Of Breathing.” Those two musicians are at such a high skill level that the listener will immediately recognize their work. Their inclusion gives gravitas to the songs they are on, though the group does fine on their own with tunes like the anthemic “Resistencia” and Meshuggah-esque “Asfixia.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“… Fast forward to now and the band comes roaring back to life on their sophomore effort The Collector of Truths and it’s a love letter to the time they left behind. Industrial bombast, guttural death metal, and melodically progressive strains of genius all play out in equally large parts over the course of these eight tracks” – Nine Circles

“There is a wonderful sense of pervasive evil that dominates the record from tracks like album opener ‘Asfixia’ to ragers like The Daydreamer’s Nightmare. I love this sense of harsh realities and raw brutality. It gives The Collector Of Truths a sense of authenticity, showing that the band emerged from true struggle to birth this record unto the world.” – Two Guys Metal Review

“CRS, or CIRROSIS, a band that plays their own brand of simplistic, mellow Technical Death Metal. Their debut album “The Collector of Truths” is proof that the genre does not need to be as complex as possible in order to be good. You know those albums that just get better as they play? This record is exactly that, the last few tracks forming the peak, the monumental conclusion.” – Metal Temple

Alienatör is a sludge metal band from Ontario, Canada that combines punk, hardcore, and noise rock elements into a stripped-down package, full of razor-sharp riffs and memorable hooks. They have recently released their second album, “Regrets”, which is a grim postcard from the depths of the human psyche. Their darkest release yet, it is a reaction to years of deep political turmoil, the erosion of truth, as well as personal politics of grief, loss, and struggle. It’s an album that touches on personal and social themes. Flourishes of melody drenched in a caustic sludge, painted in shades of black. The music video for “The Less Dead” gives a glimpse of the band performing live, channeling all their energy and passion into their art. They describe the theme behind the song:

“The “less dead,” is a term for those that are considered less of a priority for police investigations and therefore are easy victims for predators – sex workers, people of color, the poor, etc. Written before the George Floyd murder but certainly reinforced by it. The closest to a straight-ahead punk song on the album. Simon’s tom work in the bridge really elevates it.”

The video for “The Less Dead” can be viewed via its premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

Alienatör started out very sludgy but as they mature they are cobbling bits of different heavy styles together, juxtaposing very fast, thrashy stuff with slower doomy stuff. They slowly forged their own sound which carries a lot of the energy of punk and post-hardcore but still has a heavy edge.

“Regrets” is bleak and abrasive but with moments of calm, melody, and beauty to juxtapose against the ugliness. It is dark, cathartic and explores personal themes of discontent, racism, and abuse of power in Canada and the erosion of truth we’ve seen in modern times. It is recommended for fans of Jesus Lizard, Unsane, and Melvins.

About: Hailing from Thunder Bay, ON, Canada, Alienatör is a sludge metal band that combines punk, hardcore, and noise rock elements into a stripped-down package, full of razor-sharp riffs and memorable hooks.

Their debut album, “Pariahs,” released in 2109 moves from fast and aggressive to slow and swampy with touches of experimental weirdness. Many of the lyrics are about how we numb ourselves to the pain and disappointment of everyday life.

Fast forward to 2022, and the band is ready to unleash their follow-up, entitled “Regrets,” which introduces new drummer Simon Paquette to the fold. The album is bleak and abrasive, with moments of calm, melody, and beauty to juxtapose against the ugliness. Raw, uncompromising, and dark, it is emotionally heavy music that reflects a chaotic time in history.

“Noisy post-hardcore sludge, full of energy and rage… a genuine ass-kicker of a record.” – Decibel

“Aggression is the name of the game in the latest offering from Thunder Bay, Ontario crew ALIENATÖR. Brad King (guitar, vox), Sean Skillen (bass, vox), and Simon Paquette (drums) pack a big wallop for a band of three. Their sound is a hash of sludge, hardcore, noise, and crust, with a message that’s urgent and dire… Regrets plays out like a nervous breakdown, but a damned exhilarating one.” – Doomed and Stoned

“Dark, powerful and honest.” – Metal Noise.

“Music that will leave you feeling elated even if it’s covered in so much dirt and slime.” – GBHBL

“If you’re after something heavy and different, go for this because this is impressive.” – My Global Mind

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 12, 2022

Rockshots Records – Australia’s NOTHING SACRED Unleash “Drone” Off Forthcoming EP “Leviathan” Out Feb 2023

Set to unleash their new EP “Leviathan” this coming February via Rockshots Records to follow their first album in 30 years entitled “No Gods” released in 2021, Australia’s Nothing Sacred are sharing their second single “Drone”.

“The lyrics were written around the current situation in Ukraine and the atrocities of modern warfare. It’s sad that nowadays we still find excuses where it’s alright to take other people’s lives and land. I’m not sure how this is ok and it’s heartbreaking that it can still happen today. Again this is by no means an attack on the good people of Russia. What’s happening is no more their fault than it is ours.” comments drummer Sham.

Listen to “Drone” at the following links

Fans of Nothing Sacred will notice on the band’s forthcoming EP “Leviathan” that there has been a lineup change that now sees the return of Chris Stark taking the reins as lead vocalist, replacing James Davies. Stark had previously sung with the band for a number of years and has now returned in time to lay down the vocal tracks for their next monster.

The EP “Leviathan” is a mix of new and older tracks that builds on what the band did with the album “No Gods”. It has plenty of riffs, killer solos, and big melodies from vocalist Chris Stark. The EP also includes the song “Sudden Death”, a thrashy unreleased track that was a mainstay during the band’s live gigs in the mid-’80s plus re-recordings of a few tracks from the band’s first album “Let Us Prey” and two new songs. All the new songs were written in group sessions with everyone jamming, throwing around riffs and arrangements into the mix. Overall, the EP is a blend of old and new, and something they could get done without a follow-up taking too long.

About: Conceived in Melbourne in 1983, Nothing Sacred went on hiatus for two decades. During the 80s, the heavy metal band unleashed their EP “Deathwish”, which catapulted them as one of the most sought-after pit makers with the record’s title track becoming a classic within the Australian metal scene. Three years later in 1988, Nothing Sacred unleashed the full-length entitled “Let Us Prey” on Cleopatra Records. Unfortunately a year after that LP’s release, the band disbanded in 1989. Lead guitarist Mark Woolley, bassist Karl Lean, and drummer Sham went on to contribute to Hobbs’ Angel of Death‘s early work in the late 1980s. Woolley also appeared on Hobbs’ first self-titled album in 1988. Vocalist Mick Burnham later joined the short-lived Melbourne band Seizure in 1993.

Although their tenure was short-lived, Nothing Sacred still remains an underground metal phenomenon in Australia. Songs from the Deathwish EP still get airplay on several Australian metal radio programs.

In 2012, Nothing Sacred performed a series of 30th anniversary shows with Ross Percy (Ion Drive, Little House Godz) joining George Larin on guitar that included a support slot for the ex-Iron Maiden vocalist’s Paul Di’AnnoP/Blaze Bayley Australian tour. Despite the success, the band agreed not to continue and returned to retirement.

In 2015, the band decided to re-activate with a lineup of Sham, Karl Lean, George Larin, Ross Percy, and new vocalist Chris Stark. A slot on Melbourne’s Brewtality Metal Festival received positive reviews before the band embarked on a short tour of Japan (That footage was released in 2021 as a part of a 3 disc boxset), which inspired them to continue and lead the band to headline day one of the Steel Assassins Festival in Sydney.

Line-up changes again slowed the band, James Davies was recruited for vocals along with Stu Bedford on guitar. From there, the band spent most of 2019 and 2020 writing and recording, what was their first full-length in over 30 years. Entitled “No Gods”, the record witnessed Nothing Sacred‘s resurrection to the metal world. The album peaked on the Australian iTunes metal charts in October 2021 at #4 along with metal media outlets giving multiple praising reviews.

Now ready to follow up “No Gods”, Nothing Sacred has gone through another lineup change swapping singer James Davies out with the return of Chris Stark. Chris had sung with the band previously for a number of years and has now returned in time to lay the vocal tracks down on their next release “Leviathan” set for release in February 2023 via Rockshots Records.

Australian iTunes charts, October 2021. No Gods #4 in the Metal charts.

“The highly infectious intensity this album began with has not diminished in any way shape or form. And if you ask me – the thirty-year wait for a new album has been well and truly worth it.” – Metal Roos – 4.5 / 5 – No Gods

“Dramatic speed changes with a dense rhythm section. Powerful vocals with that speed metal scream added to the top. They are definitely very good at what they do.” – Metal Epidemic – 4 / 5 – No Gods

“Excellent production but above all the perfect rhythmic synchrony between the powerful riffs and the war machine called Sham behind the skins … A record for those who inevitably feel strong and ready to never back down. A great Job.” – Metal Wave (Italy) – No Gods

“ ‘No Gods’ is full of dark, yet energetic riffs with a vocal style that is easy to understand yet doesn’t sound whiny or too dramatically sorrowful.” – Brutalism.com

“In their decades amiss from the public NOTHING SACRED has managed to keep under wraps a form that manages to sound contemporary yet as well offers the classical indulgences of Thrash roots.” – Metal Temple

“Time may have marched on, but with ‘No Gods’, the band pick up almost exactly where they left off 30 years ago … there is a lot of quality here and a real chemistry bubbling beneath that surface.” – Metal Digest

“Overall, if you are a fan of US power metal, more melodic thrash metal and, of course, power-thrash, you should check this album out” – Metal Music Archives – 4 / 5 – No Gods

“This new album, “No Gods” is a culmination of musical experience and renewed energy … a band who have nothing to prove and are just enjoying the creativity.” – UK Thrasher

“If you ever come across this EP (“Deathwish”) , do not hesitate to get it! It’s essential listening for lovers of obscure old school metal.” – Encyclopedia Metallum

Montreal, QC – January 11, 2023

Strap In For The Twists And Turns Of Traditional Heavy Metal With ODINFIST’s “Riffmaster”

New Album “Remade In Steel” Out March 2023

Odinfist is well known in the Canadian underground metal scene for wild antics, a long-running metal fest, and of course, tight riffs and groovy licks. They’ve put out several releases of fun, energetic, and seriously kick-ass metal since 2009, and now they have “Remade In Steel” coming out shortly. The first single to get the world hyped is “Riffmaster”; it’s guitar-driven, epic speed metal with Deep Purple vibes that tells about a bad-ass wizard dude who brings the true metal to the people of Earth and passes judgment on the enemies of metal. The band explains the track with exuberance:

“Justin wrote the main chorus riff years ago, and we could never fit it into a song until now! We jammed it and just kept throwing in riffs, and they all just worked. That’s where the idea for the title “Riffmaster” came from. It definitely took some reworking and rearranging to get it to sound like a song, and when it did, we knew we had come up with something special. The lyrics are very Judas Priest: Painkiller, Starbreaker, Exciter, etc. A cosmic being comes to earth and brings heavy metal to the people. The Riffmaster himself can be seen on the album cover, upon his metal steed, wielding his tome of riffs.”

Compared to their older stuff, Odinfist is sure fans will love the new album as it promises throwbacks to their original sounds but with a new creative direction that unfolds over six songs that are longer and more complex than their previous material. As the band says, each song on “Remade in Steel” offers a unique musical experience, where you don’t always know what’s going to come next in a song or a track. The end result is a complete album that has a little bit for everyone, and a sense of completion at the very end.

Saucy, melodic, and barbaric. Get ready to take a roller coaster ride through the twists and turns of traditional heavy metal. Odinfist is recommended for fans of Savatage, Riot City, and Eternal Champion.

Canada’s Medevil is gearing up to release their second album “Mirror in the Darkness” in April and the 2015 Wacken Battle Canada national finalist couldn’t be more pleased to show off their updated sound. This album is also bittersweet as it is dedicated to drummer Chris Malcolmson who, since recording, has passed away.

According to the band, this album is a big step up from their previous album, with a more progressive and ambitious direction than before. Overall, the songs have much more variety and a lot more to offer, which should accommodate a wider array of musical tastes from metal fans or fans of music in general. Confident that fans of the first album will enjoy this one, they share their excitement:

“We can’t believe we made it to the finish line, what felt like forever since our debut! “Mirror in the Darkness” for us has been a long time coming, honestly mostly due to our ambitions being much higher this time around. Our goal was to create something better on all fronts compared to the last album, and we really feel like we succeeded. There’s much more to offer here in terms of styles, musicality, and maturity. There are a couple songs here as well that we took a stab at creating something more accessible, which fans of us as well as fans of non-metal music could all enjoy. Despite that, the album as a whole is fittingly a lot darker than “Conductor of Storms” in both lyrics and soundscape.”

“Mirror in the Darkness” is Medevil’s boldest step into different musical stylings than ever before. It is a very dark-sounding album mood-wise and can be described as ‘progressive power metal’ in most areas. It has a lot more inspiration pulled from progressive bands, a lot more focus, and the soundscapes have a lot more depth than they’ve had in the past.

Recommended for fans of Metallica, Mastodon, and Metal Church, “Mirror in the Darkness” comes out on April 7, 2023.

About: Medevil is a highly energetic, fast-paced metal band known for its tight songwriting, intense stage presence, and roaring vocals. They are one of the few metal bands coming out of Chilliwack BC and hold that title proud as they have earned much praise and respect since their inception in 2014. As one of the 6 national finalists of the 2015 Wacken Metal Battle Canada, they are becoming more and more renowned throughout the country; their fame attaining them a following in their local town and across through to Vancouver.

Their music could be described as “power thrash” with half of their set being chorus-driven, and the other half focusing on blistering fast riffs. Influences for the band include Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metal Church. Their fast but catchy songs keep the crowd chanting throughout the set, and leave them wanting more. Liam Collingwood, the band’s singer, keeps the band image in theme with the songs while on stage and will wear thematic outfits when the mood demands it.

The band was founded on January 13, 2014, by Eric Wesa (bass), as well as brothers Liam (vocals) and Ross Collingwood (drums). It only took two months after the band’s inception before the boys found the ultimate guitar duo they were looking for, Gary Cordsen and Brett Gibbs. Once the lineup was solidified, they wasted no time performing shows and begin their musical journey. As a band, Medevil has two common goals; to explore their musical talents, and continue performing live for their fast-growing fanbase.

“Perfectly situated to please fans of classic heavy metal, Conductor Of Storms is very strong debut from the young Medevil.” – The Monolith (2016)

“Rejoice metalheads! Chiliwackian power thrashers, Medevil, has created a top-notch debut full-length album entitled Conductor Of Storms”. – Bravewords (2016)

“Play it loud, play it fast as heavy metal world has found another new soldier to carry on the flag in the form of “Medevil”” – Planet Caravan (2016)

“Conductor of Storms is one of the most complete, fully-formed and damn near perfect debut albums I’ve ever heard from a young heavy metal band. Tracks like Escape – a blustering, no-holds-barred mashup of Metal Church, Megadeth and Overkill – are just so mature, so faultlessly executed and so, well, heavy metal, it beggars belief that they are not being delivered by a band that’s been in the game for thirty years.” – Sentinel Daily (2016)

“Riding out of the cold wastes of western Canada on warhorses of steel comes Medevil with their amazing, self-released debut album Conductor of Storms. Bruising Traditional Heavy Metal is what these guys play and they play it well. Monstrous riffs and pounding, organic drums underscore the powerful vocals and intricate solos. The band has a taste for things epic, so no love songs or cliché odes to the Metal lifestyle here.” – Metal Crypt (2016)

Canadian orchestral metal ensemble Opus Arise (ft. members of Svneatr, Thousand Arrows, Ysgaroth) released their sophomore album “The Network” this past December. The concept record is a cyberpunk tale that brings together classical strings and metal rhythms to create luscious soundscapes to dissonant chaos.

Today, in support of the full-length, the band is sharing their next video for the third track “Antimatter”. The band explains the storyline behind the song:

“After numerous calculations, the protagonist approaches the substation and plays the Antimatter progression. They are immediately scanned and digitized. The moment the song drops into the metal section signifies their entry into the network. The rest of the song follows them individually as they lead their own paths through the network, discovering its capabilities. However, after a bunch of fun and games exploring, they both eventually become curious about their past lives in 2017 and 1976.”

Watch and listen to “Antimatter” via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

Vancouver’s Opus Arise‘s latest album, “The Network”, is a cyberpunk world filled with neon lights backed by progressive metal riffs and classical themes. The eight-track record was produced and mastered by Maor Appelbaum; mixed by Ryan Shepard, with the album artwork done by Daniel Reyes. The nine players on the record bring forth their skills on guitar, cello, bass, drums, violin, keyboards, viola, and contrabass in a sometimes collaborative effort, which is primarily composed and scored by Matthew Logan and Matthew Hannah. The drums were recorded in a mansion back in 2018 where the original rehearsal space was, and the same location was used to film the music videos for the singles “Reminiscence”, “Change” and “Inner Skepticism”.

“The Network” has a modern metal influence and different composers from their first album. It is best described as orchestral neo-classical instrumental progressive metal and is recommended for fans who enjoy Powerglove, Scale The Summit, and Animals As Leaders.

“The Network” is available at Opusarise.bandcamp.com, Spotify.
