QUIESCENT MANTIS Are Swarming The Road For A “Fight” – New Single + Tour Dates w/ Summoner’s Circle, Nameless Anonymous

L-R – Johnny Mejia – Drums, Chris Trainor – Guitarist / Backup Vocals, Jordan Mckenzie – Bass and Vocals

American death thrashers Quiescent Mantis are getting ready to be road warriors and fight their way through the stretches’ of highway from city to city as they will be supporting Summoner’s Circle alongside Nameless Anonymous for a ten-date tour that will kick off in Charlotte, NC on March 9th and wrap up on March 23rd with a hometown show in Knoxville, TN (all dates listed below).

And before they make their way across six states, they are sharing a new instrumental single to get fans ramped for the mosh pit. Entitled “Fight”, the track was produced by Yanic Bercier and is off Quiescent Mantis’ upcoming yet-to-be-titled album for release later this year. It’s a song for those to escape from everyday life and give a unique experience to lose themselves in the twists and turns of it. The band explains further:

“With it being an instrumental, we believe the song tells a story on its own in the way it changes, swivels, and turns will push the listener through a war as carnage rips through the field. We believe will catch the attention of the fans due to its unique riffage and unrelenting tone of aggression throughout the track.”

Quiescent Mantis was born to take heavy metal sounds and cross-pollinate them with old-school science fiction movies, campy lyrical vibes, and solid groovy riffs. The furious trio is represented by guitarist Chris Trainor, bassist/vocalist Jordan Mckenzie, and drummer Johnny Mejia who came together to deliver one face-melting lick after another while the ground below them shatters with breakdowns.

To date, Quiescent Mantis has released their debut EP “Chapter 1” in 2021 and while they find their niche has gone from a more traditional thrash sound to a truer heavy metal sound with paper shredding leads, earth-shaking bass lines along with almost machine-like drumming. They aim to provide a unique experience with a mixture of old-school thrash and new-school metal techniques such as breakdowns, which will be prevalent on their first full-length album.

Fans of Orbit Culture, Power Trip, and Havok will be especially interested in what Quiescent Mantis has to offer.

About:
Former scientists Chris Trainor, Jordan McKenzie, and Johnny Mejia were previously employed by Sub-atomic Weight of Acceleration Research Mechanics or S.W.A.R.M. While working on a project involving particle collision the team inadvertently tore open a brief doorway to the mantis homeworld exposing themselves to a mind-altering pheromone in the process.

The trio is now obsessed with opening the portal permanently allowing their mantis overlords access to our world; they are harbingers of the Swarm, selected to terraform and prepare Earth for the coming invasion. Wielding mighty instruments of sonic assault they herald the approach of the swarm of the brutal blend of thrash death metal and hardcore. The Swarm has slumbered in exile for far too long, the gates are ready to open, and it’s time to join the Swarm!

Lunar is a riveting progressive metal band from Sacramento, USA. They are eager to be releasing their third album “The Illusionist” this March and with that anticipation, proudly present the third single “Showtime” featuring a guest guitar solo from PALADIN’s Taylor Washington. The nine-track concept album tells the story of a magician that questions his entire life’s work. He’s spent his entire life devoting himself to his craft and now he questions if it was worth it. The band expects that the underlying theme is one many people can relate to, especially those who have careers in some kind of artistic field. The single follows the main character as he gets ready to perform, it is high energy and a bit more power metal inspired as the band explains:

“Not letting anyone have a breather from the last single, here’s another fast, high-energy song from the album! This song was actually written last for the album and almost wasn’t included. I thought the album was finished, but something early in the track listing felt like it was missing to me, so I threw this one in and it turned out to be, in my opinion, one of the strongest and most unique songs on the album. This one features an amazing guest guitar solo from Taylor Washington (PALADIN), who is now the only guest who has appeared on all 3 Lunar full-length albums.”

Optimistically, Lunar expects this full-length to be the fan favorite and they consider it the best album they have ever done, the songwriting is stronger, the production is stronger, and every song sounds different, but it’s a strong cohesive record to listen to from front to back.

With lyrics that are based on real-life experiences complemented by proggy riffs, they are recommended listening for fans of Katatonia, Haken, and Caligula’s Horse.

“This is a record that everyone must own. Every generation and every country should adore an album like this, as one like Theogony rarely makes itself known. If you like music and consider it art, this is a must.” – Prog-Sphere on “Theogony” #23 Best Albums of 2017

“The sophomore album from this Cali band is showing the band expanding their horizons in sound. The heavy parts are heavier, the lighter parts are even lighter and the proggier parts are even more insanely proggy *plus on the song, Surrender, there is a very cool nod to the final lasting riff in Opeth’s Deliverance to close out the track…don’t think I didn’t catch that!* With all of the guest appearances, fantastic production and just masterful songwriting, this is one of the strongest prog albums you will hear all year. Trust me!” – Heavy Debriefings on “Eidolon” #39 Best Albums of 2019

“Inspired by a tragedy that befell the project in the way of losing guitarist Ryan Erwin, drummer and songwriter Alex Bosson has put his emotions towards honing a release that is as beautiful as angry. Helping him in his vision are guest contributions from members of Haken, Leprous, Thank You Scientist, Fallujah, etc.” – Prog-Sphere on “Eidolon” #19 Best Albums of 2019

“The word “classic” gets tossed around a lot, but I honestly can’t think of a better word for Eidolon. From front to back and top to bottom, this album is both firmly rooted in death metal with a progressive bend while standing alone atop the mountain. It’s equally headbanging heavy and enthralling, music to get in the mosh pit and simply sit in awe of. This is required listening because there’s nothing else quite like it.” – Progarchy on “Eidolon”

“Like Theogony, Eidolon is another very impressive showcase of modern progressive metal. It’s technical, emotional, melodic, and aggressive and is just very well put-together overall.” – wimpsandposers.com

Best of AOTY:
Prog-Sphere: “Theogony” #23 best of 2017

Ehsan Imani is a London-based music producer and guitar player. He started his music career in Iran and studied at Berklee College of Music and Goldsmiths University of London. He previously released an album “Rager Blaze” back in 2014 and is now following it with the powerful “The Flames Within” EP, which is available now. This EP is supporting the Iranian protesters against the Islamic regime of Iran and Imani expects a positive reception from rock and metal fans in both Iran and the rest of the world. He explains further:

“As an Iranian artist who had lived there for more than three decades, I wrote these three songs to express my disagreement with the Islamic regime and to stand in solidarity with the people of Iran. That’s why the audience can experience different emotions listening to these songs, such as sorrow, anger, and hope. I believe most of the rock and metal listeners around the world can relate to the words and will enjoy this groovy and rebellious music.”

The three-track EP covers government corruption, the lives lost in the Iranian protests, and the energy coursing through the people who were on the front lines. This emotion is paired with groovy guitar riffs, shredding solos, orchestral instrumentation, and soulful vocals.

The EP comes in an English version and is a passionate display of anger, motivating vibes, and an epic atmosphere. It is recommended for fans of Disturbed, Alter Bridge, and Falling in Reverse.

Released on February 15, 2023, you can listen to “The Flames Within” on Spotify and Apple Music.

Hog Meets Frog’s third EP “humANIMALization” is a witty and entertaining jaunt that flirts with obscurity and is entirely thought-provoking. With influences ranging all over the musical spectrum from progressive and death metal to jazz, to world music and funk, there is something for everyone in the riffs and chords that the Austrian group writes. They explain the avantgarde record in their own words:

“The EP is a non-conceptual concept EP under the motto of the title: “humANIMALization”. And, as it happens, when the animal in the human awakens, then, for example, one turns into a bigot monkey and the other becomes an insecure piggy, one becomes a peeping control bear and the other becomes a greedy stock market bull. Just this behavior – sometimes silly, monkey or also clumsy, bearish – is told in the lyrics, as well as through the wide range of sound worlds and riffs.”

Crossing genre borders and providing a challenging listen, the music bounces from cheerful, funky sounds to the broad, massive, nu-metal sound to fuzzy bass and distorted-guitar sound with a sip of kick-ass drums. The band finds that the best approach to serious topics is with fun and that is emphasized with “humANIMALization”. Most people will first notice the cheerful, funny, sick side of Hog Meets Frog, but a few will remove the mask and then let themselves fall into the deepest depths of the music and lyrics and see what thoughts lie dormant there: Stories that life writes.

Adventurous listeners are invited to go through the looking glass and find the deeper meaning in each of the tracks on the EP, or simply frolic in the bright colours on the surface. “humANIMALization” is recommended for fans of System of a Down, Primus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, TOOL, and Frank Zappa.

“humANIMALization” is due out on February 24, 2023, but can be heard in advance via its full stream premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

“The sow meets a frog… sounds like the beginning of a joke, but the project HOG MEETS FROG is anything but a joke, since the funk metallers from Austria are thoroughbred musicians. Their new work will be released in mid-February under the title “humanIMALization”, whereby the Viennese deal with current political and social issues in a fabulous animal story… If the song titles like Apes don’t smoke cigars, just pipes are very funny, the musical aspects are of very high quality and definitely not “suitable for a headband”. Sure, funk is not a run-of-the-mill genre to sing along to, but sophisticated music at the highest level. So to speak, jazz music of the metal species. One can clearly register the inspiration of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Primus and Co. on this record, whereby the songs transport positive energy. Conclusion: Intoxicating and exciting songs that will delight fans of the genre mentioned above.” – Rock Magazine

0 NECRONOMICON EX MORTIS Announce Bloodborne Inspired “Celestial Tomb” Off Debut S/T Out March 2023

NECRONOMICON EX MORTIS Announce Bloodborne Inspired “Celestial Tomb” Off Debut S/T Out March 2023

Top – Michael Bala – Guitar, Manuel Barbarà – Guitar
Bottom – Yusuf Rashid – Bass, Craig Schmul – Vocals, Joey Ferretti – Drums

Inspired by 80s horror movies, horror games, and HP Lovecraft, Chicago’s Necronomicon Ex Mortis is putting a gory new touch on classic, old-school death metal. The members, guitarists Michael Nystrom Bala and Manuel Barbará, bassist Yusuf Rashid and drummer Joey Ferretti are good friends from Berklee and that training and long-term friendship shines through in their morbid, shredding metal. They are eager to release their debut self-titled EP this March, and ahead of that, are releasing the first single “Celestial Tomb”. The band explains the single:

“It was a relatively difficult song to write because Michael wanted that classic Gothenburg melodic death metal song but he didn’t want to do what At The Gates did 20 years ago and better. He tried to use a slightly subversive song structure as well as some more “outside” chords and melodies in the chorus as well as in Manuel’s solo section. Lyrically, it was inspired by the chalice dungeons in Bloodborne.”

Necronomicon Ex Mortis intends to draw listeners in and trap them in an 80s horror movie, on VHS of course. This EP acts as the trailer for their music much like a movie trailer advertises a feature-length film. This release promises the gory good time that future releases will have.

Keeping old-school shred gods such as Yngwie, Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert, and Derek Taylor in mind, Bala is the primary songwriter. He believes that songwriting is a combination of fulfillment and subversion of expectation. So the writing process becomes a hilarious tug-of-war between the two extremes that often leaves him without sleep. The EP is recommended for fans of Obscura, Arsis, and Racer X.

“To Which I Bore Witness” both lyrically and musically, tries to capture the uncomfortable juxtaposition between weakness and weight. It is the second release from Canada’s drone doom duo They Grieve who are constantly trying to express the ways in which the ugliness and decay we see in the world sets itself down and plants its roots inside of them—how the weight of the world transforms into their own weakness once it has done so. They try to capture this feeling of juxtaposition and tension within the music itself by oscillating between ambient, textural drones and heavy, doom-laden riffs. They continue to explain the album:

“We are very proud of how far we’ve come as a band since our last release. Although it’s been a painstaking process, having scrapped and then re-written most of it, we feel that the end result is a very clear step in the right direction for us. We took our time trying to get the details right, getting more comfortable and adept at filling sonic space as a two-piece. Specifically, we put a lot of work into blending our disparate drone and post-metal influences in a way that feels more natural and seamless than our previous efforts.”

The duo of Gary Thibert on guitars, bass, and vocals; and Deniz Güvenç on drums, synthesizers, piano, and vocals have worked together in the past on a few other projects. In 2015, Thibert was growing increasingly frustrated with his current project at the time and wanted to try experimenting with a more collaborative form of writing, as both of them are songwriters. Initially, they were going to focus on a drone/ambient project but drifted back toward metal pretty quickly. Compared to their first EP, listeners will find this new album more refined and nuanced.

“To Which I Bore Witness” is meant to be depressing, it’s sad, loud music that’s not meant to cross into anger. They Grieve wants people to sit with the album’s sadness and find comfort or kinship within it. The poignant riffs and melancholic layers are recommended for fans of Year of No Light, The Body, and Cult of Luna.

The album was produced by Topon Das (F*ck The Facts) at Apartment Two Studio along with mastering done by Dave Williams at Eight Floors Above and additional tracks recorded by Alex Jakimczuk at Uppercut Studios. The album artwork was done by Pascale Arpin.

The album is being released on February 24, 2023, via Silent Pendulum Records and can be heard through its full stream premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

About: They Grieve is a two-piece doom, drone, and post-metal band based in Ottawa, Canada. Drawing influence from both minimalist ambient music and down-tempo metal, they blend warm synthesizers, electronics, and lofty guitar drones into mournful hymns and monolithic dirges with urgency, tension, and weight.

Members Gary Thibert and Deniz Güvenç formed They Grieve in 2015 with the intent to experiment with new forms and processes for songwriting, collaboration, and improvisation. Their first EP, I Made My Sacrifice Accordingly, was self-recorded and self-released in late 2016. In 2018, it was re-released with an added bonus track and accompanying music video through Transcending Records.

They Grieve are set to release their first full-length album entitled To Which I Bore Witness. Recorded at Apartment 2 with Topon Das of Fuck the Facts, this album presents a marked change in the band’s sound. Moving away from the harsh-noise influence on their first album, To Which I Bore Witness unveils a much more refined approach to texture and atmosphere while simultaneously shifting to a slower, heavier pace.

Employing a nuanced sense of harmony, the result is an emotional, dynamic, and doom-laden take on post-metal.

“The best kept secret in Ontario’s doom metal scene, They Grieve — the project of Gary Thibert and Deniz Guvenc, of Alaskan and Stay Here respectively — have spent the past several years refining their approach to doom metal, shifting away from the genre’s usual tropes to make something uniquely their own. To Which I Bore Witness is a subtle, nuanced and richly emotional exploration of grief and loss that sends doom through a prism of sound.” – Exclaim!

“In the song (To Which I Bore Witness) itself, the music lumbers like a wounded leviathan, staggering ahead with terrific heaviness through corrosive chords and pounding drums — and unexpectedly, it also gets significantly louder, all the better to crush the listener into submission. Enhancing the daunting atmosphere of the music, the vocals scar the senses with harsh howls of ruinous torment, and a guitar wails in bitter grief. Suddenly, just as the video’s protagonist lands on a barren beach (to meet her other self), the music dramatically changes. A slow piano melody ethereally rings in moody but mesmerizing fashion above a humming bass and steady beats. That interlude only seems to magnify the bruising impact of what follows it. The piano still rings, but the rough reverberations that surround it abrade like heavy-grit sandpaper, and the screams reach new heights of harrowing intensity. The drums boom, the chords scrape and moan, the feeling of immense desolation becomes staggering. The protagonist buries the box she removed from within forest roots and wanders away, alone.” – No Clean Singing

“The song (Wither) opens with simple mystical statements on the synth. Other instruments are added to effect layers of feeling, meaning, and intensity. Guitar chords crackle and swell, enveloping us in ionizing radiation. Vocals are gruff and raspy; you have a feeling they’ve been through a lot, seen too much. As we inch closer to minute five, drums bounce jubilantly and a torrent of scratchy riffage erupts like the blinding winter wind. Gradually, the swell is calmed and we return to the strange solitary cries of the keyboard.” – Doomed and Stoned

“Generating a lot of sound for a two-piece, They Grieve’s second release is a deeply emotional album that captivates through pure sonic structure. Heavy and engaging, To Which I Bore Witness shows a wonderful marriage of doom and post-metal, utilizing both genre aspects wonderfully. Whether one is aiming to use sadness/emotion to heal or to further grieve, this album offers many pathways through one’s emotions.” – Musique Machine

“To Which I Bore Witness will not be everyone’s cup of tea. The production is deliberately fuzzy and abrasive. The songs are droning and meditative in the most self-destructive way they can be. It’s the kind of band you either “get” or don’t. This is also what I would call mood music. You don’t listen to They Grieve every day. You have to be in a particular mood to enjoy it, but I know that mood and I’ve felt these emotions and this blend of sludge, doom and post-metal with bold electronic elements carries them as well as they can be carried.” – Vox & Hops

“Could They Grieve be the future kings of Post-Metal?… As with most albums of this musical style, To Which I Bore Witness is dark, depressive, emotional and musically heavy. Upon first listen it can be overwhelming and tough to get through, however, with each repeated listen the album seriously grows. I for one, am very excited to see what They Grieve produces in the future.” – RAM Zine UK

“Unlike other representatives of this way of making music, where the elements typical of this extreme type of doom metal are used, they are rather invasive and even aggressive, in the case of They Grieve it is completely different. It is true that the despair contained in these compositions, additionally fueled by painfully sounding vocalizes, is undeniable, but it has an extremely soothing effect, introducing the listener into a kind of stupor that separates him from the surrounding world full of painful stimuli. Quite an interesting antidote to the pain of existence is served by these Canadians, and fans of the above-mentioned forms of squat playing will certainly appreciate it.” – Apocalyptic Rites

“The duo formed by Gary Thibert (guitar, bass, vocals) and Deniz Güvenç (drums, synth, piano, vocals) has created an intensely and strongly emotional album, at times almost monolithic, but at the same time decidedly dynamic. In the development of the six songs of which it is composed, To Which I Bore Witness exudes heaviness with its suffocating gait that seems to want to subdue the listener to the point of making him harmless. Thanks also to a sound that drags us into desolate lands where the ice, like a true master, crystallizes our every emotion, in the name of a now rampant moral decadence.” – Grind On The Road

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – February 23, 2023

TOLEDO DEATHFEST Announces 2023 Lineup w/ OCEANO, THE CONVALESCENCE, VCTMS, INCITE And More!

TOLEDO DEATH FEST is ready to stir up the most extreme mosh pit to ever tornado Ohio and its surrounding states. This year’s event is being hosted on June 3rd in Toledo, OH at Mainstreet Bar and will feature headliners, OCEANO alongside The Convalescence, VCTMS, Incite, and many more (full lineup below).

Since its inception in 2009 by Keith Wampler, the frontman of The Convalescence and owner of The Legend Agency, the festival has showcased the talents of some of the American Midwest’s best up-and-coming metal bands. Past editions have seen past support from well-known artists such as Jungle Rot, Malevolent Creation, The Breathing Process, and Casket Robbery among many more. The festival has been an extreme metal pilgrimage for fans living in the surrounding states of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

“I am very happy to be able to bring Toledo Deathfest back in 2023 with one of the most insane lineups we’ve ever had. This festival has come from being local bands at small venues to a two-stage festival featuring bands from around the country thanks to the incredible support of everyone who attends each year. Thank you to everyone who has supported Toledo Deathfest and I look forward to seeing everyone again on June 3rd!” adds festival organizer Keith Wampler.

Tickets are available at https://theconvalescence.bigcartel.com/ (General Admission, VIP Packages)

Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1456718568446520/

Highlights of the confirmed bands include headliners Oceano with their blast beats, sonic double bass, slow heavy breakdowns, low death metal growls, and shrieking metalcore vocals ready to annihilate the pit with their discography since 2009. The Convalescence is one of the USA’s unstoppable tour de force, touring Europe in 2022 with Chelsea Grin, and Carnifex plus an upcoming tour in Japan in 2023 with Exhumed and Defiled along with their latest single “No Survivors” ft. Scott Ian Lewis of Carnifex, that has fans demanding more and more. A versatile metalcore group based out of Illinois, VCTMS employs an ambitious blend of punishing breakdowns, catchy melodies, and crushing riffs that draw from post-hardcore, hip-hop, industrial and alternative metal. They have released three full-length albums to date. Their third album Vol. III Halfway Happy was released on August 31, 2018, and reached #25 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart during its first week of release. Phoenix, AZ’s INCITE, now close to 20 years into a career where everything was earned and nothing was taken for granted, the band bridges the gap between multiple crowds across various metal sub-genres. As renegade disciples of trailblazing architects like Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, and Machine Head, INCITE raise the torch for trend-killing and hipster-smashing metal. Incite is as much a part of the fabric of the style championed by Lamb Of God as the surge of newer bands like Power Trip. The band’s fifth album, Built to Destroy released in 2019 (Minus Head Records), is a visceral, urgent, voracious distillation of modern metal, with reverence for the past, produced by Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence) and mastered by Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed).

Streaming Now! Detroit Melo-Death ASYLENCE New Album “Endanger Us All”

New Album “Endanger Us All” Out Feb 24th

Bringing together a solid group of influences, Asylence presents their take on melodic death metal. Forged from the melting pot of Detroit’s underground metal scene, Asylence is a well-oiled metal machine built with passion, intent, and ferocity like no other. Today, they unleash the full stream of their first full-length “Endanger Us All” via its premiere on Metal-Rules ahead of its release on Friday, February 24th.

“We hope that everyone is ready for our greatest effort which is Endanger Us All. We couldn’t be more proud of how this album came together. Listeners who are familiar with us will hear some material they are used to and a lot of new attitudes that they have never heard before. Our first EP was merely an introduction to what we can do compared to the range this record has achieved.

We were faced with a decision on whether or not to include some of our oldest songs on this record which we never had properly recorded. After we realized how well our new and old material blended for a well-balanced experience from start to finish we really started to understand the raw energy this album radiates.

It’s heavy, it’s deadly, and it’s a warning and a declaration of desperation. Endanger Us All!” adds the band.

“Endanger Us All” can be heard in full via its premiere on Metal-Rules HERE.

Their new album “Endanger Us All” is a combination of Asylence’s oldest and newest material. The older songs have always been a staple in their live sets and they wanted to finally record them right and do them justice. The new songs have been completed since the release of their 2020 EP “Eulogy Of Man” and they really constructed the bridge from what they were to what they’re becoming.

The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by guitarist Aaron Lumsden and the artwork was done by Diyaco Paymazd. It is recommended for fans of Devildriver, Amon Amarth, and Arch Enemy.

“Endanger Us All” is due out on February 24, 2022.

About: Asylence (uh-sigh-lence): A hybrid of the words Asylum and Silence, when joined together, present a universal idea and timeless message: The constant suffering and failures of mankind. After the dissolution of drummer Alex Aubuchon’s highly active, long-standing thrash band, he began to focus his efforts on recruiting for his new project. He discovered the talent of guitarist Aaron Lumsden, an avid scene supporter who frequented many local and regional shows.

A dedicated relationship quickly formed between the pair, and Asylence was born. Frontman Ryan Lang, having been a mainstay in the Detroit metal scene but group-less at the time, was Asylence’s first choice to handle vocal duties. Ryan accepted, excited at the idea of hitting the stage once again. Shortly after, bassist Richard Olrich joined the group to complete the sound. A new era of heavy metal ensued.

Forged from the melting pot of Detroit’s underground metal scene, Asylence is a well-oiled metal machine built with passion, intent, and ferocity like no other. Since their formation in 2016, Asylence has been on a path of sonic destruction as they crush their audiences with fierce live performances throughout Michigan and surrounding states, opening for national acts such as Archspire, Belphegor, and Sea of Treachery, among others. Taking no prisoners and amassing a loyal, respecting fan base in the Midwest and beyond, behold the rise of Asylence.

“There’s some truly fierce deathcore emerging from the Midwest. One of the most promising acts from the region is Asylence. Not only do they lean into the tropes of the genre (Gotta love that quick little bass fill before the vocals kick in!) but their brand new video, ‘Arrows For Christ’ is absolutely killer!” – Metal Injection

“Eulogy of Man features top musicianship and is a heavy, melodic, groove-laden group of songs sure to excite old-school heads as well as forward-thinking fans of modern bands.” – Ghost Cult Magazine

“Michigan metal outfit Asylence have teamed up with Metal Insider to premiere a video for their emotionally-driven new song, “Endanger Us All.” – Metal Insider

“Melodic death metal powerhouse” – Decibel Magazine

“Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with going with a classic formula and hitting it out of the park.” – Dead Rhetoric

“Nasty, angry, aggressive, and heavy. What’s not to like? Ranging from old-school death metal, black metal, and deathcore, it’s all here plus a shed load of real technical ability and attitude. The future’s bright for Asylence.” – Myglobalmind Online Magazine

Montreal, Qc – February 22, 2023

Saskatoon’s DESPITE THE REVERENCE Release Melodic Single “Killing Plebs” Off “Stress Of Evolution” Out April 2023

“Stress Of Evolution” Out April 14th

Impressively, Canada’s Despite The Reverence has been together writing and performing for over 10 years now with the same lineup and as of this year, has produced five full-length albums. The most recent addition to their catalog is “Stress Of Evolution”, a twelve-track, neck-breaking monster of an album due out this April 2023 and builds on all of their previous work. The latest high-impact single coming for listeners is “Killing Plebs” with a music video below. The band shares the details:

“This is a more commercial-sounding hard rock song that starts with a guitar fade into the main riff. The drums, bass, and rhythm pound together throughout while the melodic lyrics belt out catchy lyrics and a memorable tune that gets stuck in your head. The middle section starts to get heavy and then cuts out to a breakdown with a pulsing rhythm and subtle guitar reminiscent of Faith No More.”

The lyrics are spoken with an echo that makes it very unique and captivating, with content regarding the death of the common man and of his character which has been sacrificed to appease a lazy and entitled culture. The song kicks back in with an epic ballad-style guitar solo and then a powerful vocal chorus that matches it perfectly. It’s an excellent look at the new direction that Despite The Reverence is moving in, something bigger and more professional than ever before.

The band primarily incorporates a lot of groove metal and thrash metal into their sound, but also draws from many other types making their sound multi-dimensional. They are recommended for fans of Nothing More, Tool, and Muse.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – February 21, 2023

Canada’s MAUDIIR Announces Corrosive New EP “Soliloque” And Fast Single ‘L’Éloge du Cuivre’

New EP Out April 7th

The one-man, blackened thrash metal project of Maudiir is once again gracing the world with a solid, riff-driven EP with big bass grooves and corrosive vocals raging on environmental issues, mixing thrash, black and progressive metal elements, giving it a unique sound and feel. “Soliloque” is expected in April and follows 2021’s “La Part du Diable” and 2020’s “Le Temps Peste”. The first single off the EP is “L’Éloge du Cuivre”, which explores local environmental issues. Maudiir explains further:

““L’Éloge du Cuivre” is a very different song for Maudiir. I would describe it as Helmet/Prong meets “Spirit of Sulfur” from the previous EP “La Part du Diable”. As a result of experimenting with a 7-string guitar, I think it’s a very catchy song and I really love the instrumental thrash metal section. The song is mostly about the Fonderie Horne in northern Quebec, but also touches on any non-repenting polluting company.”

When asked how he expects fans to receive the latest record, he explains that, for a small independent one-man project, he managed to get a number of great reviews for “La Part du Diable” and even got on a couple of end-of-year favorites lists. He hopes that people are going to find ‘“Soliloque” interesting and diversified as he tries new things; new sounds and different song ideas.

Maudiir is a one-man band that started from a need to be independent and produce music to a pace that he alone decides. “L’Éloge du Cuivre” is a fast, catchy song recommended for fans of Voivod, Ihsahn, and Carcass.

The track can be heard via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

“Soliloque” is due out on April 7th and is available for pre-order at https://maudiir.bandcamp.com.

Track Listing:
1. Toxic Cloud (5 :24)
2. L’Éloge du Cuivre (5 :02)
3. Residue (4 :30)
4. Regarde au Ciel (4:41)
5. CH4 (5:44)
EP Length: 25:24

About: Maudiir, coming from the underbelly of Montreal, Quebec, Canada is an outlet for observations on obedience and industrialization riddled with man-made waste. With 80s heavy metal influences alongside black metal and punk, Maudiir is unique in sound; hauntingly dark while being corrosive and galloping.

Maudiir is a one-man black/prog/thrash metal project that formed to be musically independent. Starting with guitar, F. works his way through each sullen track, adding drums, recording all the colorations and textures of the guitars, adding bass, and finally writing the words, very often at the same time they are being recorded.

The pessimistic aura of the music combines with lyrics about consumer society, religion, science going awry, addiction to technology, and environmental decay.

Maudiir released the debut EP “Le Temps Peste” in February 2020 and a year later unleashed the follow-up “La Part du Diable” in 2021.

Now in 2023, two years after the sophomore record, Maudiir returns with the third offering “Soliloque”, an intense and aggressive five-track record built on thrash metal foundations, flirting with prog and melodic tendencies.

“It’s not a linear EP; certainly not the same song repeated again and again. Open-minded people, step in. Those who have heard my past EPs will notice ‘Soliloque’ is different than ‘La Part du Diable’, which was also different than ‘Le Temps Peste’. I like to think that the overall production is getting better with every release. I don’t want to repeat myself or focus on some kind of recipe. The overall sound of ‘Soliloque’ is very different from ‘La Part du Diable’; different guitar, bass, and drum sounds. I also used less effect on the vocals, a more in-your-face approach. One song was recorded with a 7-string guitar, I dabbled with some slide guitar on another… Trying new stuff. I particularly like the bass sound that cuts through really well. Being primarily a guitar player, I‘ve really come to enjoy giving a lot of space to the bass guitar in my music. It’s the instrument that I have the most pleasure recording.” adds Maudiir.

“Soliloque” is due out April 7, 2023.

F. (ex-Deeply Confused, Tears for the Dead Gods) is also currently leading prog/thrash metal outfit Trinity Blast.

Maudiir is F.

Canadian College Radio Loud Charts: #1 – The National Loud Chart – For the Week Ending: Tuesday, February 16, 2021 (Earshot)

“As “The Slumber” begins, a jittery, dissonant bass riff, underlaid by droning guitar and soon joined by F.‘s rabid snarl, creates an immediate feeling of incipient and dangerous derangement as it quivers above a neck-popping back-beat and a febrile bass line.” – No Clean Singing

“Feel free to imagine Maudiir as a mix of early Metallica and Enslaved, Darkthrone, Diamond Head, Skeletonwitch, Martyrdöd, Skitsystem and fellow French Canadian technology users/abusers, Voivod. Sitting at home with no shows to attend or play for a year has provided F. the opportunity to work in isolation and create the next chapter in the Maudiir story, La Part du Diable. The five songs within continue stirring the influence pot with the result being simultaneous sweet and sourness, light and darkness, uplift and despondency.” – Decibel Magazine

“If you’re tired of all those black/thrash bands that sound too much like each other, this is a little different. Just solid blackened thrash with a strong footing in traditional heavy metal that calls for repeat plays.” – The Metal Crypt

“If this is what Maudiir can achieve in only 24 minutes and 24 seconds, bring on a full-length. If you’re into Skeletonwitch, Voivod, or Ihsahn, give release this a listen!” – 4/5 Metal-Rules.com

“It’s The Crowning Hour that closes out a banger of an EP. Where the guitars blur reality and the drums hammer so hard, the brain begins to ache. The tempo is fiery, and the passionate delivery is joyfully received again.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“The first thing you notice about Maudiir‘s new EP, La Part du Diable, is just how good the record sounds. Crystal clear production on a blackened thrash release might not be at the top of every listener’s shopping list, but here the production absolutely works for F.” – Sentinel Daily

“What’s so refreshing with this E.P. is the flourishing evolution of styles and the sheer confidence in which the music is played. Aided by the crisp and professional production, this is a genuinely exciting release.” – The Razor’s Edge
