Rockshots Records – Out Now! New Video “To Be The King” ft. Pierre Carabalona (Eltharia) & Jens Ludwig (Edguy)

New Album “The Legend of the Storyteller” Out Now!

+ Tour Dates w/ Rhapsody of Fire

Album Guests Zak Stevens (ex-Savatage/TSO), Madie (ex-Nightmare/Faith In Agony), Pierre “Cara” Carabalona (Eltharia),
Ivan Castelli (Lionsoul), Angèle Macabiès, Jens Ludwig (Edguy), Bruno Ramos (Sortilège/ex-Manigance)

Fantasy symphonic power metal band France’s Avaland is celebrating the release of their sophomore full-length “The Legend of the Storyteller” out now as of March 31st, 2023 via Rockshots Records with their new music video “To Be The King” featuring guest vocals from Pierre Carabalona (Eltharia) and guitar from Jens Ludwig (Edguy).

The band comments:

“We feel this is another great anthem track on the album and had the most sound in the roots of “Edguy traditions”, and it’s why we had to ask Jens Ludwig to make a solo on it. It’s such an honour to him a part of it as the band has been one of our influences in heavy metal. He did a great job!”

We also like to say welcome to an epic, symphonic and bombastic album for a 1H trip to the magical world of Avaland!”

Watch and listen to “To Be The King” ft. Pierre Carabalona (Eltharia) and Jens Ludwig (Edguy) – https://youtu.be/VOmm4aHhe_4

Compared to Avaland‘s debut album, the band’s next full-length “The Legend Of The Storyteller” is heavier and is a much more epic power metal record full of anthems upon anthems for fans to chant to as they are taken on a journey over twelve theatric tracks. The record also hears double vocal duties from Adrien G. Gzagg and Jeff Kanji along with album guests that include Zak Stevens (ex-Savatage/TSO), Madie (ex-Nightmare/Faith In Agony), Pierre “Cara” Carabalona (Eltharia), Ivan Castelli (Lionsoul), Angèle Macabiès, Jens Ludwig (Edguy) and Bruno Ramos (Sortilège/ex-Manigance).

Lead by Adrien G. Gzagg (Autor/Composer/Lead Singer/Synths and Orchestrations), the album’s storyline is a prequel to the band’s first album “Theater of Sorcery” as he explains further:

“This album, as the first one, is a journey, a trip out of our world, into the universe of Avaland. We enjoy seeing Avaland as a great saga, as a movie, or series. We feel like listening to Avaland is like watching Game Of Thrones, The Lord Of The Rings, or reading comics, it’s an escape from everyday life. For this album, we took a lot of inspiration from Game Of Thrones and Arthurian Myths. We love fantasy and mythologies and we also find ourselves having a great fascination for alchemy and esoterism. Time is also a great subject, it’s mystical… in fact, time will be at the center of this saga. This new opus is showing a heavier and darker atmosphere of Avaland’s theatrical universe. Are you ready to be part of “The Legend Of The Storyteller”?”

Avaland is recommended for fans of Savatage, Angra, Avantasia, Symphony X, and Queen.

TALIA Shows Off Epic Symphonic Prowess With Hauntingly Beautiful “Abandon”

Talia – Photo Credit – Kyle Lamar

Talia Hoit is an American singer-songwriter from Colorado. She was classically trained at a young age and now she writes songs and various symphonic metal compositions. She has contributed to bands for the last two decades and also has a collection of solo works. Alongside a talented group of producers and musicians, she is bringing more of her most personal and intimate solo songs to life. Her latest piece is “Abandon”, in which the listener can immerse themselves in the haunting emotion. She shares her excitement for the video release:

“When I wrote this song last year, it was not particularly intended to be something I would release, it was just a moment of vulnerability I had at my piano one day where this song unfolded into existence as I was going through something and had a moment of being emotionally overwhelmed and just started playing the keys and saying the words. It became a beautiful poem about letting go of something that had been really important to me but was dying in my life. I’m really grateful to all the amazing people who have helped me bring this music to life to be able to express my art both musically and visually, and to be able to share it with the world.”

Hoit expects a fine reception as it’s more the symphonic metal style people have come to expect from me because of her other projects, as well as the collaboration with the producer, Mane Cabrales who contributed backing instruments and vocals.

Fans can expect a lot more music coming from Talia in the future, she has many songs that she looks forward to releasing in the future. Dark, introspective, and metaphorical, Talia’s symphonic metal gives new life to the genre. It is recommended for those who enjoy Nightwish, Within Temptation, and Evanescence.

Watch and listen to via its video premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

About: Talia Hoit is an American singer-songwriter from Colorado. Classically trained, she begin playing the piano at the age of 5. Now she writes original songs, performs on vocals and keyboards, and composes orchestra scores for symphonic metal.

She was the keyboardist and a co-songwriter for the hard rock band Anadies for 5 years, releasing an album, Formamentum (2004), and an EP, Catalyst (2006), before branching out to write her own solo songs and sing classical music. She performed as a Soprano with the Colorado Springs Chorale for 10 years, and as the Chamber Singers of the Colorado Springs Chorale for 5 years. As a solo artist, she wrote and independently recorded two original albums of songs, Fate’s Too Small (2007) and A Little Longer (2012) which had a limited physical cd release only.

In 2014, she recorded ambient vocal backing tracks as a guest musician for a symphonic power metal band, Psycodrama. After this studio experience, she decided to pursue her passion for singing symphonic metal. That same year, she joined the band Beyond Forgiveness and is currently the lead singer, orchestral composer, co-lyricist, and co-songwriter for the band. They have released an EP: The Ferryman’s Shore (2015), two albums: The Great Wall (2017) and Live to Tell the Story (2019), and are currently in the studio working on their third full-length album, Cold as Winter’s Ice.

In the fall of 2020, she worked with producer Jarek Musil to record a single, Angel, for personal purposes, which had a soft release in early 2021 on Soundcloud only. Since the Covid pandemic, she has been working remotely with a talented group of producers and musicians to bring more of her most personal and intimate solo songs to life.

Chicago, USA’s Necronomicon Ex Mortis is a bubbling cauldron of 80’s horror movies, 80’s shred goods, modern production, and tight thrash metal. They are now releasing their debut self-titled EP, which serves as the trailer for the epic full-length that is to come out down the road. They mean to draw listeners in and trap them in a classic horror movie, on VHS of course. The four-track record presents a variety of techniques and elements, delivered with precision and professionalism. They detail the tracks listers can expect:

““Earth Cancer” is old-school death metal about angering God so he curses the human race with overpopulation; “Celestial Tomb” is a Swedish-style rager with an interesting melodic twist. Lyrically, it was inspired by the chalice dungeons in Bloodborne. “Nocturnal” is a combination of Michael’s favorite thrash riffs. It’s about murdering teenagers at a summer camp. “The Burning” is about an acclaimed 80s horror movie. Musically, it is the most complex to play, it involves a key change, it’s the fastest song on the EP, and the most interesting.”

Brutal and melodic, Necronomicon Ex Mortis pays homage to the death metal shred gods such as Yngwie, Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert, and Derek Taylor as well as horror classics, 80 horror movies, horror games, and HP Lovecraft. They’re hoping this EP will gather a small fanbase and help them establish a footing in the metal world.

Produced and mixed by Charlie Waymire at Ultimate Studios with album artwork done by Lucas Korte, the self-titled EP is streaming in full ahead of its release via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

Necronomicon Ex Mortis is recommended for fans of Black Dahlia Murder, Obscura, Arsis, and Megadeth.

“You might suspect we’re exaggerating, but we’re really not. The four songs on the EP are undeniably sinister and ferocious, but the dominant impression of the music is that it’s exhilarating and exultant, the work of people who decided to put their formidable talents to the test, while having a shitload of fun doing that. When you listen it will make sense to hear that the EP comes recommended for fans of Black Dahlia Murder, Obscura, Arsis, Racer X, and Megadeth.” – No Clean Singing

“Inspired by Swedish Death Metal “Celestial Tomb” lays down the blast beats while having an interesting melodic lead that flies into a monstrous extended face melting solo of the highest order, confirming if there was any doubt that these musicians have the capability to step on stages with World Superpower level bands and hold their own. If it wasn’t for their love of old school works, you could easily see them going down the more technical road of an Archspire or Inferi, the clues to that murder mystery are all wrapped up within this whirlwind of an opener for all to witness.” – Metal Noise

“the EP feels solid. It has remarkable melodies, a good sound and a cool cover.” – Metal Bite

With four full-length releases behind them, Canada’s Milanku presents “À l’aube”, a five-track burn that breathes new life into a caste of disenfranchised people, imbued with a disarming lucidity, and gives itself a framework and a voice to pull its head out of the swamp. This melancholic release is full-bodied, and intense, heavily influenced by the emotions of despair and loneliness brought on by the pandemic.

Bassist/vocalist Guillaume Chamberland comments:

“After a long hiatus, we are excited to perform this new album live. We have maintained our core sound but we have grown immensely musically, I mean we had lots of time on our hands…and this album basically represents an offering to our fans who have been waiting for new music from us. They can expect heavy post-rock with more maturity and finesse.”

Most of the skeleton of the album was built before the pandemic. After a few months of downtime, Milanku refined and modified the songs and recorded the songs in two studio sessions. The pandemic had an impact on the sound of all the songs on the album, without it, the result of the album would not be the same at all.

Compared to their previous releases, it is a return to the sound they had on the “Pris À La Gorge” album but with more maturity and a certain musical evolution of the group. The last track features Erika Angell from Thus Owls comes to embellish the album. Sad and slow, with clear influences from genres such as post-metal, hardcore, and crust, Milanku is recommended for fans of Neurosis, Envy, and Cult of Luna.

“À l’aube” is now streaming via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

The album “À l’aube” is due out March 31st, 2023 via FOLIVORA (Canada), D7i (Canada/USA), and Moment of Collapse (EU).

About: If Milanku draws its origins from the work of Milan Kundera, the soundtrack is definitely more on the side of the thundering density of the being than of its “unbearable lightness”, galvanized by the Czech author.

From the start, Milanku hammers out its brutal character, infused with melancholy, even dystopia, and standing straight upright on the wire: defiant, shouting, and inspired.

Mesmerized by the warrior’s rage, flayed by its own doldrums, the quartet relies on pared-down arrangements and an oft-staged vocal presence, harmonizing like an instrument, and howling at the big time, but plastered with a disquieting sense of dilettante.

At the heart of the enterprise, tearing off the peels of flapping skins, we explore the state of affairs of the contemporary genre, tragic, desolate, where any notion of common sense seems diffuse in the amalgam of trompe-l’oeil. The texts are meditative, inquisitive and the observations that emanate from them, weep and persist in trying to make sense of it, through its ever-growing losses of illusion.

With four full-length releases behind them, both in Canada (D7I Records, Désordre Ordonné, L’oeil du Tigre), and abroad (Tokyo Jupiter Records (Japan), Moments of Collapse (Germany), Replenish Records (USA), GS production records (Russia), We are Grain of Sand (Russia) Alerta-Antifascista, Milanku presents today À l’aube (Folivora, 2023), a five-track burn that breathes new life into a caste of disenfranchised people, imbued with a disarming lucidity, and gives itself a framework and a voice to pull its head out of the swamp.

International recognition

The band has been affiliated with several; indie labels and distributors over the years, namely: in Canada (D7I Records, Désordre Ordonné, L’oeil du Tigre), Jupiter Records (Japan), Moments of Collapse (Germany), Replenish Records (USA), GS production records (Russia), We are Grain of Sand (Russia) as well as Alerta-Antifascista (Germany).

In 2016, the band will continue to tour Europe, visiting the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria.

The band’s albums have been consistently recognized at the GAMIQ since 2013 in addition to jumping on a plethora of specialized year-end lists around the globe.

“Milanku’s À l’aube doesn’t just rage against the gloom; it observes it, experiences it deeply, and reaches tirelessly towards hope. The sound absolutely envelops you in ecstatic glory by album’s end.” – Doomed & Stoned

“The slowness of the post-hardcore of Milanku or the erasure of the world.” – Weirdsound.net

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 30, 2023

Montreal’s VVON DOGMA I (ex-Unexpect) Release Teaser And Artwork For Upcoming Album “The Kvlt of Glitch” Out May 2023

VVON DOGMA I is an edgy, progressive avant-garde metal band from Montreal, Canada that is gearing up to release their highly anticipated album, “The Kvlt of Glitch”. The first glimpse of this record is a teaser single along with the album artwork, which was created by Patrick Filteau and MidJourney. Drawing influences from Radiohead, Meshuggah, and Deftones, the band has carved out a unique sound that blends complex rhythms and haunting melodies. Ringleader and bassist Chaoth (ex-Unexpect) quotes that the band’s sound is him paying tribute to the wide assortments of influences that he’s had in his life from 90’s alternative and nu-metal to modern electronic and ambient music and everything in between. He continues to explain:

“It’s very freeing in a way to be the main songwriter because you don’t really have to fight for your ideas, whatever goes so, it’s a glimpse of my psyche. Lyrically it’s very much fueled by dark feelings that have been following me my whole life. Very personal yet vague as fuck. This whole project, these songs, this sound, it’s been living in my head and computer alone for too long but now I’m just happy and proud to finally bring this project to life.”

Currently, Chaoth does most of the writing before drummer Kevin Alexander and Yoan modifies the structure and adds attitude with the drums and guitars and then it goes to the studio where Blaise Borboën adds like a million layers, very synth-heavy. Hours of trial and error lead to the final polished result. Like sculpting, they just play with it until it looks like something.

Vvon Dogma I is an experimental and challenging display of musical prowess and creativity. They are recommended for fans of Deftones, Sleep Token, and Unprocessed.

The album artwork is revealed below.

Canada’s SOVEREIGN COUNCIL Dig Into The Past With New EP “ World on Fire” Out May 2023; Unveil Music Video For Title Track

From headlining performances as well as supporting slots for some of the biggest bands in metal, Ottawa, Canada’s Sovereign Council have hit the ground running and haven’t stopped since they formed in 2012. They have released two full-length albums to date “New Reign” (2013) and “Laniakea” (2015) and now they have a fresh new EP “World On Fire” for listeners and ahead of its release, the band is offering up the title track as a single accompanied with a music video. The majority of the EP comes from vocalist Lisa Thompson’s personal experiences and this five-song progressive, symphonic, and power metal-influenced record will take listeners through a range of emotions and imagery ranging from inspiring, motivational lyrics to darker subject matter. The band shares their thoughts on the single:

“This song was chosen as a single because everyone in the band felt it to be one of the stronger songs on this release. It has an edge to it while still being very accessible to a wider audience compared to our previous releases. Each one of us takes a different meaning from the song itself and we hope that our listeners will enjoy it just as much as we do. We simply want people to enjoy the ride.”

Sovereign Council got together through a shared love of music and the emotional release that comes with writing, recording, and performing. As a band, they have evolved drastically since being first formed and continue to change each time they sit down to write music. “Here’s living proof that shows that Female-Fronted Symphonic Rock/Metal isn’t an exclusive domain and does reach beyond the boundaries of the Netherlands and mainland Europe…The Euro Symphonic Rock connection is strengthened with Delain’s Timo Somers pitching in with a trademark solo on the single ‘The Human Condition’, while the album also features Brazilian-based violinist Marina Andrade…An album with a title which offers up the suggestion that, like the galaxy it describes, is vast and with limitless boundaries, ‘Laniakea’ is a collection which is more epic and melodic rather than Symphonic and orchestral. It’s going to be a record which has fans of Nightwish and Delain pricking up their ears as this is something along the same lines yet a little bit different.” – Mike Ainscoe – Rocktopia (Laniakea – 2015)

“There are not many Symphonic Metal bands coming out of Canada at the moment, but Sovereign Council is certainly one band from that country to watch out for! This is a grower and well recommended..8.5/10” – Ravenheart Music (Laniakea – 2015)

“Here is another great work of this great band that will surely please the most demanding heavy metal fans as well as fans of good music in general.” – Cássio Pagliarini – Heavy Metal Brasil (Laniakea – 2015)

“Progressive Symphonic Metal (new Canadian symphonic metal band that has a strong orchestral sound with some wonderful violin and piano along with the beautiful, theatrical vocals of Lisa Thompson contrasted against very harsh male vocals.” – Prog Metal Zone – Prog Metal Zone (Laniakea – 2015)

“There is something hidden within Canada…I think this band will be hot in 2015.” – Odie – Rock Fanatic Rockcast (Laniakea – 2015)

“The CD is well-presented with a simple, but elegant album cover reminiscent of something House Of Lords might do, with a regal-looking logo that visually matches the image of the bands name. The back cover photo and layout messed up my brain. The band put a bit of time and energy into the 10-page booklet with nice photos, (the band look slightly gothic), lyrics and liner notes. It was self-produced and sounds quite good for a homemade recording…. This is a pretty impressive debut. The band has it together with good songwriting, production, performances and presentation. I could see a European label like Napalm or Massacre showing some interest in Sovereign Council, based on the strength of NEW REIGN.” – JP – Metal-Rules.com (New Reign 2013)

Whythre is pleased to unleash the first single “Scorchbreath” off their forthcoming album “Impregnate My Hate” due out this coming May 2023. The Seattle melodic death metallers have been together since 2015 and this is their third release. Over the course of the nine tracks on the album they experiment with a variety of techniques from aggressive mindlessness to slow and somber moments…with some catchy hooks!

The single “Scorchbreath” describes adventures Adam and Shon experienced on trips to Colombia (Santa Marta) and Detroit (Movement music festival). “Scorchbreath” chronicles a code word that was spoken to engage in after-hour events and various forms of libations. These travels hold a special place in the hearts of Adam Chambers (vocals/guitars/synths) and Shon Petrey (guitar/synths) and this song brings back fond memories. Musically, the single has some punchy/thrashy verses with a big carnival vibe of a chorus, all while incorporating fun shred moments. The band explains the single and the album further:

“This song is our single because it kind of displays all the elements of the album in a very condensed way. This is the song that kicked off the inspiration to start this album. We felt like we found something here that was worth exploring. The album title ‘Impregnate My Hate’, as a phrase, really sums it up. In modern times most folks are jumping down each other’s throats, willing vessels to the online projection of what modern entertainment and communication should be. Society is fragmenting into niche groups; how each individual deals with this is literally making or breaking their existence.”

Whythre was officially started in 2010 by Petrey and remained a solo project until 2012 when he met an opera-trained singer named Jeran Michaels, the first album was released and slowly a full lineup began to form. They have since formed into an impressive force of symphonic riffs and growls.

An aggressive introduction to the album, “Scorchbreath” is an onslaught of big solos, slamming breakdowns, subtle orchestration, and a sing-along chorus that embodies Whythre’s deft formulation of melodic death metal singed with a blackened edge. Wear appropriate protection.

Whythre is recommended for fans of Hypocrisy, Children of Bodom and Havok.

The video single is being premiered now on TheCirclePit Youtube channel at https://youtu.be/tVGnpIA6Gk8

The full album “Impregnate My Hate” is being released on May 26th, 2023 via High Point Records and is available for pre-save at https://linktr.ee/whythreofficial

“The drums snap and boom; the nimble, pulsing bass work amplifies the song’s surging, head-moving rhythms; the guitarists deliver jabs and jolts, fiery soloing, and fluid melody; and Tachell’s vocals [previous vocalist] are scalding in their intensity. You put all that together, and you get music that sends the blood rushing and proves to be highly addictive as well” – NO CLEAN SINGING ‘Savage’ single review (2019)

“The songs on this EP turn out to be damned addictive. It’s very easy, at the end, to just go back to the beginning and ride this lightning again… and again” StillBorn World EP Review (2019) – NO CLEAN SINGING

0 Saskatoon’s DESPITE THE REVERENCE Question Existence Through “Human Obsolete” Off “Stress Of Evolution” Out April 2023

Saskatoon’s DESPITE THE REVERENCE Question Existence Through “Human Obsolete”

New Album “Stress Of Evolution” Out April 14th

Despite The Reverence, hardened by the cold climate of Canada has been pumping out heavy albums for over a decade now and at last, has another full-length album to add to its discography. “Stress of Evolution” consists of 12 tracks full of melodic riffs, groovy bass lines, and thundering drums that you’ll feel in your gut. So far, they have released four singles which show a wide variety of techniques they have honed in their years together. Now, the single “Human Obsolete” is ready for ears. The band explains:

“This is another very interesting track and more of a surfer-style hard rock song. Their lyrics as they indicate are about the growing obsolescence of the human race. This song finds the groove right away and carries it all the way through making it a real head-banger. The guitars, bass, and drums follow the groove while the lyrics tell a story.”

Despite The Reverence was originally the cover band of guitarist Johnny Fast and vocalist Tom Liska who decided to rise to the challenge of writing original music and exclusively performing it. After finding bassist, Jordan Poelzer and drummer, Brad Zimmer, the idea took form and a name was hatched. Very professional live with big production, backdrops, and lighting, they play with high energy and intensity.

The band primarily incorporates a lot of groove metal and thrash metal into their sound but also draws from many other types making their sound multi-dimensional. They are recommended for fans of The Muse, Tool, and Porcupine Tree.
