Streaming their new album “Mirror in the Darkness”, Canada’s Medevil has taken a big step up from their debut full-length “Conductor of Storms”, with a more progressive and ambitious direction than before. The album is also a tribute to drummer Chris Malcolmson who passed away after its recording. The songs on this new album have much more variety, and a lot more to offer, which should accommodate a wider array of music tastes from metal fans or fans of music in general. The band is very confident that fans of the first record will enjoy this one and they explain further:

“‘Mirror in the Darkness’ is our boldest step into different musical stylings than ever before. It is a very dark-sounding album mood-wise and can be described as ‘progressive power metal’ in most areas. Each song throughout sounds completely unique from the other, bringing out a new metal flavour unheard from the previous tracks. We also experimented with Drop-C tuning here on a couple songs, adding to the dark sound. While it is not a concept album, the lyrics throughout have consistent themes about heavy personal issues such as depression and negativity you feel in life.”

Their style on “Conductor of Storms” was heavily inspired by the classic ‘80s heavy metal bands, but for “Mirror in the Darkness” they started looking at other heavy metal influences within the progressive metal sphere such as Opeth, Porcupine Tree, and Mastodon. You can hear this influence on tracks like ‘No Peace in Rest’, ‘Dead Before Birth’ and ‘Veiled’ where they make use of longer arrangement structures, odd time signatures, and atmospheric soundscapes.

Intended to be listened to in a single sitting from front to back, Medevil spent a lot of time considering the flow of the album, from fast and energetic to dark and brooding, so there is a lot of variety that will come from a fully engaged listen. Dedicated to late drummer Chris Malcolmson, it is recommended for fans of Metal Church, Accept, and Baroness.

About: Medevil is a highly energetic, fast-paced metal band known for its tight songwriting, intense stage presence, and roaring vocals. They are one of the few metal bands coming out of Chilliwack BC and hold that title proud as they have earned much praise and respect since their inception in 2014. As one of the 6 national finalists of the 2015 Wacken Metal Battle Canada, they are becoming more and more renowned throughout the country; their fame attaining them a following in their local town and across through to Vancouver.

Their music could be described as “power thrash” with half of their set being chorus-driven, and the other half focusing on blistering fast riffs. Influences for the band include Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metal Church. Their fast but catchy songs keep the crowd chanting throughout the set, and leave them wanting more. Liam Collingwood, the band’s singer, keeps the band image in theme with the songs while on stage and will wear thematic outfits when the mood demands it.

The band was founded on January 13, 2014, by Eric Wesa (bass), as well as brothers Liam (vocals) and Ross Collingwood (drums). It only took two months after the band’s inception before the boys found the ultimate guitar duo they were looking for, Gary Cordsen and Brett Gibbs. Once the lineup was solidified, they wasted no time performing shows and begin their musical journey. As a band, Medevil has two common goals; to explore their musical talents, and continue performing live for their fast-growing fanbase.

“Perfectly situated to please fans of classic heavy metal, Conductor Of Storms is very strong debut from the young Medevil.” – The Monolith (2016)

“Rejoice metalheads! Chiliwackian power thrashers, Medevil, has created a top-notch debut full-length album entitled Conductor Of Storms”. – Bravewords (2016)

“Play it loud, play it fast as heavy metal world has found another new soldier to carry on the flag in the form of “Medevil”” – Planet Caravan (2016)

“Conductor of Storms is one of the most complete, fully-formed and damn near perfect debut albums I’ve ever heard from a young heavy metal band. Tracks like Escape – a blustering, no-holds-barred mashup of Metal Church, Megadeth and Overkill – are just so mature, so faultlessly executed and so, well, heavy metal, it beggars belief that they are not being delivered by a band that’s been in the game for thirty years.” – Sentinel Daily (2016)

“Riding out of the cold wastes of western Canada on warhorses of steel comes Medevil with their amazing, self-released debut album Conductor of Storms. Bruising Traditional Heavy Metal is what these guys play and they play it well. Monstrous riffs and pounding, organic drums underscore the powerful vocals and intricate solos. The band has a taste for things epic, so no love songs or cliché odes to the Metal lifestyle here.” – Metal Crypt (2016)

Unrelenting Death Metal Titans PYREXIA’s New Lyric Video Won’t Leave You “Unscathed”

25th Anniversary Re-Recorded Edition of “System of The Animal” Out June 2023

Tour Dates – Pyrexia w/ Embryonic Autopsy, Yotuma + Denver DeathFest

Back in 1997, Long Island, NY’s Pyrexia unleashed one of their classic records “System of The Animal”. As the album nears its 25th anniversary, the unrelenting brutal death metallers will be unleashing a new re-recorded special edition of the full-length with its current band lineup that consists of Chris Basile (Guitar), Shaun Kennedy (Bass), Jim Beach (Vocals), and John Glassbrenner (Drums).

The 25th Anniversary edition of “System of The Animal 25” was recorded at Chapel Sound on Long Island, NY, and was mixed and mastered at Demigod Studios by Miguel Tereso. With “System of the Animal 25”, Pyrexia provides the blueprint for OG Brutality. It’s fierce, angry, and in your face. This album will not leave your playlist. So put on your dancing shoes for this one. Heads will be banging and elbows flying.

Band co-founder and guitarist Chris Basile adds:

“This album was ahead of its time in 1997. I don’t think a lot of people were ready for such a mix of Brutal Death Metal VS. Beatdown Hardcore. When people hear this material with the production we put together with Demigod Studio, combined with the fact that the music was written in the mid-90s. I think it puts Pyrexia in a whole new light for a lot of people. I think the songwriting is really going to stand out for listeners bored with bands that put out the same album over and over.”

Unscathed was originally written by Guitarist Chris Basile in 1989 for the first band he was in Mortuary. The first people to play and perform this song were Terrence Hobbs, Mike Smith, and Doug Cerrito of the original Suffocation lineup while they were all in Mortuary together. It would later appear on the first recording of the album “System of the Animal” in 1997.

“After releasing Gravitas Maximus in 2021 on Unique Leader Records, I was finally able to hear Pyrexia songs with the production I had always imagined. I immediately wanted to re-record System of the Animal and bring it to Demigod Studio. The result is nothing other than pure audio violence.” adds Chris Basile.

The re-recorded “Unscathed” can be heard via its lyric video premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

About:

Band formation: 1990 – present
Location: Long Island, New York

1987-1989: Chris Basile joins the band Mortuary along with Terrence Hobbs, Doug Cerrito, and Mike Smith, all of Suffocation. Together over 30 songs were written by the band and many of the songs and riffs written during this time appear on both Pyrexia and Suffocation’s early releases leading to many comparisons.

1990: Basile meets up with the four other original members Guy Marchais, Rob Shimonski, Daryl Wagner and Mike Andrejko, and Pyrexia is formed. They go on to release their 1991 demo Liturgy of Impurity and later the classic 1993 Full-length Sermon of Mockery, cementing their place in the anoles of Death Metal history……

Pyrexia continued to release one seminal release after another including their 1997 “System of the Animal”, and even teaming up with Trevor Peres of Obituary in 1999 to form the band “Catastrophic” which went on to release their debut album on Metal Blade records.

In 2007 the band signed with Unique Leader Records and began an extensive campaign of touring and performing both in America and overseas in support of the next three albums released under the UL moniker that continues today.

With the addition of Gravitas Entertainment and Management as full-time management for the band, the schedule and team in place for 2023 have the band set for new heights…..

0 Maudiir Is Now Streaming Corrosive New Blackened Thrash Metal EP “Soliloque”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 6, 2023

Maudiir Is Now Streaming Corrosive New Blackened Thrash Metal EP “Soliloque”

New EP “Soliloque” Out April 7th

Hailing from Quebec, Canada, the one-man, blackened thrash metal project of Maudiir is once again gracing the world with a solid, riff-driven EP “Soliloque” with big bass grooves and corrosive vocals raging on environmental issues, mixing thrash metal, black metal, and progressive elements, giving it a unique sound and feel. With two singles out, “L’Éloge du Cuivre” and “Toxic Cloud” already making waves in the underground scene, the EP is streaming now to captivate listeners. Maudiir describes what to expect:

“‘Soliloque’ is a different EP than ‘La Part du Diable’, which was also different from ‘Le Temps Peste’. I like to think that the overall production is getting better with every release. I don’t want to repeat myself or focus on some kind of recipe. The overall sound of ‘Soliloque’ is very different from ‘La Part du Diable’; different guitar, bass, and drum sounds. I also used less effect on the vocals, a more in-your-face approach. One song was recorded with a 7-string guitar, and I dabbled with some slide guitar on another. Trying new stuff. I particularly like the bass sound that cuts through really well. Being primarily a guitar player, I‘ve really come to enjoy giving a lot of space to the bass guitar in my music. It’s the instrument that I have the most pleasure recording.”

Maudiir works on one song at a time, from start to finish, then starts composing another one. Lyrics are written at the very end of the process of a song and the words are arranged to fit the music. Generally, he is inspired by what is going on in the world; politics, religion, consumer society and environment. This time around, past and present environmental disasters around the world pretty much made the whole portrait of the EP.

“Soliloque” is intense and aggressive, built on thrash metal foundations, flirting with prog, and always melodic. It’s not a linear EP; certainly not the same song repeated again and again. Open-minded people step in, especially those who listen to Voivod, Carcass, Darkthrone and Skeletonwitch.

Listen to “Soliloque” via its full stream premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

“Soliloque” is due out on April 7th and is available for pre-order at https://maudiir.bandcamp.com.

Track Listing:
1. Toxic Cloud (5 :24)
2. L’Éloge du Cuivre (5 :02)
3. Residue (4 :30)
4. Regarde au Ciel (4:41)
5. CH4 (5:44)
EP Length: 25:24

About: Coming from the underbelly of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Maudiir is an outlet for observations on obedience and industrialization riddled with man-made waste. With 80s heavy metal influences alongside black metal and punk, Maudiir is unique in sound; hauntingly dark while being corrosive and galloping.

Maudiir is a one-man black/prog/thrash metal project that formed to be musically independent. Starting with guitar, F. works his way through each sullen track, adding drums, recording all the colorations and textures of the guitars, adding bass, and finally writing the words, very often at the same time they are being recorded.

The pessimistic aura of the music combines with lyrics about consumer society, religion, science going awry, addiction to technology and environmental decay.

Maudiir released the debut EP “Le Temps Peste” in February 2020 and a year later unleashed the follow-up “La Part du Diable”.

Now in 2023, two years after the sophomore record, Maudiir returns with the third offering “Soliloque”, an intense and aggressive five-track record built on thrash metal foundations, flirting with prog and melodic tendencies.

“Soliloque” is due out April 7, 2023.

F. (ex-Deeply Confused, Tears for the Dead Gods) is also currently leading prog/thrash metal outfit Trinity Blast.

Maudiir is F.

“The song (L’Éloge du Cuivre) is well-calculated to get the listener’s pulse jumping right away. The drums infectiously pop. The riff (tuned to a mangling tone) comes in bursts, and so does the growling bass. Having accomplished that feat, things get more vicious as the guitar feverishly jitters and writhes, the words come in a torrent of rabid screams, and the drums hammer with a will. Although the riffing continues to change, becoming more searing and deranged, and also more frantically jolting, the song’s mad rhythmic pulse remains vivid, continuing to punch and drive even when a head-spinning guitar solo seizes attention. Both the drumming and the mercurial bass maneuvers (which are pleasingly prominent) ensure that listeners’ limbs and heads will keep bobbing and pumping straight through the song’s furious finale.” – No Clean Singing

“Maudiir are a blackened thrash metal band from Montreal, Québec. They’re putting out a new album on April 7 called Soliloque, and the first single, “L’Éloge du Cuivre,” is available on their Bandcamp right now. Break out your French knowledge for this one. It’s a pummeling metal track but one not without its share of punk influence an the chords pound in a fiery fury. That guitar definitely has one foot in punk and one in metal, while the drummer keeps up a fairly simple nu metal beat. It’s got a great edge to it without just getting lost in how hard and heavy it is.” – New Noise Magazine

Progressive instrumental metal band Phaeton is now streaming the title track off their upcoming second album “Between Two Worlds”. This nine-and-a-half minute magnum opus is akin to being shot through space like the hypothetical proto-planet they take their name from. The solar wind is the first thing you hear before the drops of notes patter you like coastal rain, and then it’s power-chord time and we’re off. The band continues to set the scene:

“This is where we stretch our limits of chordal density versus open space, spelling off with each other and working hard to make every riff mean something, and every overlying or underlying melody sing. “Ahh,” you say. “Here’s the breakdown! This must be the middle of the song!” We laugh good-naturedly at your presumptions; buckle up, my friends! Themes from earlier minutes return in louder, more insistent, more dolled-up manner, and we claw our way to the dynamic heights and then we plunge our way into the dynamic depths. And we bookend the closure with the solar wind again. This one was a workout to compose, it was a workout to record it, and yes, it is a killer to play, but it’s all smiles and sweat from us. As it should be for you.”

Listen to the title track “Between Two Worlds” at https://youtu.be/Xqv1C0HQYtM

The album “Between Two Worlds” is set to be another landmark release for the band. The album features eight tracks that further explore the boundaries of the progressive metal genre, while also showcasing the band’s growth and evolution since their debut. Fans can expect to be drawn in and wowed through each of the imaginative instrumental journeys on this highly anticipated release.

Those who appreciate solid musicianship, powerful rifferama, intriguing song structure, melodic muscle, harmonic instrumental interplay, and all of it happening at once should be thrilled by the music Phaeton has to give, especially those with an interest in King Crimson, Opeth, and Gojira.

“Between Two Worlds” is due out April 21st, 2023, and available for pre-order at Phaetonband.bandcamp.com

California’s Lunar have recently released their fourth album “The Illusionist” featuring album guests Jørgen Munkeby (Shining), Christian Münzner (Obscura), Andy Gillion (Mors Principium Est), Taylor Washington (Paladin), Sam Vallen (Caligula’s Horse), Ben Karas (Thank You Scientist), Gleb Kanasevich, and Patrick Corona. The nine-track album takes the listener through the life of a magician as he confronts the choices in life and offers a metaphor for those who also question their path. They have created a listening video for the serene, instrument track “For My Next Trick”. Written by bassist Ryan Price, the low end plays a prominent part in this track and it signifies the calm before and after the storm where the main character has an idea for one last epic trick to pull and finally feels a sense of peace. The band goes into detail:

“For the final single of the album we wanted to show something a bit different. This song is very different from everything else we’ve released so far. The song is instrumental and very soft and serene. The polar opposite of the track “Juggling Chainsaws,” which was the first single released from the album and also the track that directly precedes this one on the album. We wanted this one to be out there for people who haven’t listened to the album yet and see what kind of extreme variety they can expect between songs.”

Lunar cites that they have an interesting process when it comes to writing because the story or concept has come first with the last couple of albums. Then that gives a rough layout of how the music should assist in the storytelling and then the lyrics come last to really fill it in. Compared to their other three albums, which had a lot of prog-rock sounds, the newer stuff has more metal influences, and this new album has steered into new sounds they’ve never done before. There are more technical songs, there’s one that’s very Egyptian sounding, and one that is very Lunatic Soul inspired.

Expansive, creative, and technical, Lunar offers wild stories and impressive riffs. They are recommended for fans of Caligula’s Horse, Devin Townsend, and Opeth.

“I feel like Lunar has captured the balance between accessibility and technicality very well. I hear many of the same elements in their sound that, when employed well, make bands like Dream Theater, King Crimson, Voïvod and even Sigh so engaging. I love when an album comes out of nowhere (for me, anyway) and makes this much of an impression.” – The Metal Crypt

“As I said at the start, when I heard this album I was immediately grabbed by it. The story works nicely, it is very character based and features plenty of emotions which as a listener I certainly could relate to. The music is terrific with all the players putting in excellent performances and the instrumentation used in a clever way to match all that is going on with the lead character. There are moments of heavy prog as well as metal, but melody runs through the heart of it. The fact that some of the people in the band have never met or even been in the same room together is remarkable as it sounds like everyone was on the same hymn sheet and it doesn’t sound pieced together. That is a great credit to the writing, arranging as well as all the musicians doing their parts to the benefit of the whole piece. An absolutely delightful as well as enjoyable album.” – CGCM Rock Radio

“The concept is that there are songs that are angry, songs that are confused, songs that are depressed, and everywhere in between. Styles on the album run the gambit from Progressive Metal with melodic vocals, to moments of Jazz, to cookie monster Thrash…. The musicianship is solid on all of the parts, with some excellent performances, notably vocalist Chandler Mogel… it does warrant checking out for Prog-Metal fans that like a mix of growler and melodic vocals.” – Metal Express Radio

“The Illusionist again is at the highest level of the progsphere, Bosson’s continuation of the Lunar name, honouring his co-founder and friend, through the medium of progressive metal, is an advantageous endeavour. 9/10” – Musipedia of Metal

“The disc is well produced and played very well, so anyone who wants to dive into tempo changes and virtuosity will find what they are looking for.” – Metal Shock

Wander Into “Purgatory” With Canada’s FALL OF EARTH’s Next Single Off New Album “From The Ashes” Out April 2023

Fall Of Earth, hailing from Edmonton, Canada is a myriad of different styles that all come together in a creative and approachable form of modern, thrashing melo-death and progressive metal. Collectively, each of the four members possesses the highest levels of musicianship while never forgetting to put on the exceptional live show they have become known for delivering. They have a new album coming out this year, their second, and “From The Ashes” promises to be more cohesive and refined than the previous one. While fans wait for this release, they are offering their next single “Purgatory”. They share the story behind the track:

“A recently passed man observes how quickly he is forgotten in the world of the living. With his memory fading from existence and the ones he thought loved him continuing their lives effortlessly, he must wander in a state of limbo. Not being able to accept the harsh truth, the man is left to explore purgatory for eternity without passing on to a heavenly afterlife. Musically, we start off this track with a melancholy bass intro, in a strange time signature of 13/8. The song builds off of this section piece by piece, becoming more full up until the verse where it takes off and comes together. There is an interesting mix of despair and realization within this composition, highlighted by the contrast between sections. I personally think the pinnacle of this song is the first bridge section, where we lay down a heart-pounding, groovy “Gojira” style riff, and eventually bring it back to an alternate chorus to tie all these dynamics together.”

Compared to their debut, the band believes that their sophomore record “From The Ashes” is a coherent next step. Although their previous album was far more experimental, they strongly feel like fans will find that they are taking these audio experiments and solidifying them into their signature “thing”. They are confident that listeners will be happy with this transition from songs with cool sections, into compositions with intent and purpose.

With a writing process that is seamless and tracks that come together organically, each song is created in a different way. Sometimes it starts with lyrics, sometimes a guitar riff, they’ve even based it off of drum patterns a few times. In the end, the team effort between the four of them ties together the structure and the result is melodic, and thought-provoking. Their music is recommended for fans of Gojira, Dream Theatre, and Periphery.

“From The Ashes” is due out on April 21, 2023, and available for album pre-order/digital pre-save at https://linktr.ee/FallofEarth

“Fresh Tracks: Fall of Earth offers a smorgasboard of metal on From the Ashes… What if a band took numerous metal genres and combined them to form a monstrous kaiju? This is the modus operandi of Edmonton’s Fall of Earth. Known more succinctly as “hybrid metal,” Fall of Earth’s sound encompasses death, thrash, progressive, metalcore; you name it, they have it cranked to 11″ – Edmonton Journal

“Fall of Earth are gradually gaining more and more of the city spotlight” – E-Know

“Fall of Earth, is bolting through the scene with their magnificent stage presence and performance. High energy and a sure crowd-pleaser that will leave you wanting more. I’ll admit, these guys blew my mind! I’m a big fan now for sure! 0 Detroit Melo-Death ASYLENCE’s New Video Will Have You Join Them “In This Hell” + New Album “Endanger Us All”

Montreal, QC – April 4, 2023

Detroit Melo-Death ASYLENCE’s New Video Will Have You Join Them “In This Hell”

New Album “Endanger Us All” Out Now!

Bringing together a solid group of influences, Asylence unleashed their first full-length “Endanger Us All” this past February. Forged from the melting pot of Detroit’s underground metal scene, the melodic death metal band is a well-oiled metal machine built with passion, intent, and ferocity like no other. Today, they share their latest music video for the track “In This Hell” – https://youtu.be/22_lVCEjBKg

The band comments on the track:

“This was actually the first song we ever wrote as a band. It really shows the progression we have taken since we all started it’s all started, we still love this song and play it often. This song basically says if we are all doomed we might as well have a good time.”

Their new album “Endanger Us All” is a combination of Asylence’s oldest and newest material. The older songs have always been a staple in their live sets and they wanted to finally record them right and do them justice. The new songs have been completed since the release of their 2020 EP “Eulogy Of Man” and they really constructed the bridge from what they were to what they’re becoming.

“We hope that everyone is ready for our greatest effort which is Endanger Us All. We couldn’t be more proud of how this album came together. Listeners who are familiar with us will hear some material they are used to and a lot of new attitudes that they have never heard before. Our first EP was merely an introduction to what we can do compared to the range this record has achieved.

We were faced with a decision on whether or not to include some of our oldest songs on this record which we never had properly recorded. After we realized how well our new and old material blended for a well-balanced experience from start to finish we really started to understand the raw energy this album radiates.

It’s heavy, it’s deadly, and it’s a warning and a declaration of desperation. Endanger Us All!” adds the band.

The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by guitarist Aaron Lumsden and the artwork was done by Diyaco Paymazd. It is recommended for fans of Devildriver, Amon Amarth, and Arch Enemy.

“Endanger Us All” was released on February 24, 2023.

About: Asylence (uh-sigh-lence): A hybrid of the words Asylum and Silence, when joined together, present a universal idea and timeless message: The constant suffering and failures of mankind. After the dissolution of drummer Alex Aubuchon’s highly active, long-standing thrash band, he began to focus his efforts on recruiting for his new project. He discovered the talent of guitarist Aaron Lumsden, an avid scene supporter who frequented many local and regional shows.

A dedicated relationship quickly formed between the pair, and Asylence was born. Frontman Ryan Lang, having been a mainstay in the Detroit metal scene but group-less at the time, was Asylence’s first choice to handle vocal duties. Ryan accepted, excited at the idea of hitting the stage once again. Shortly after, bassist Richard Olrich joined the group to complete the sound. A new era of heavy metal ensued.

Forged from the melting pot of Detroit’s underground metal scene, Asylence is a well-oiled metal machine built with passion, intent, and ferocity like no other. Since their formation in 2016, Asylence has been on a path of sonic destruction as they crush their audiences with fierce live performances throughout Michigan and surrounding states, opening for national acts such as Archspire, Belphegor, and Sea of Treachery, among others. Taking no prisoners and amassing a loyal, respecting fan base in the Midwest and beyond, behold the rise of Asylence.

“There’s some truly fierce deathcore emerging from the Midwest. One of the most promising acts from the region is Asylence. Not only do they lean into the tropes of the genre (Gotta love that quick little bass fill before the vocals kick in!) but their brand new video, ‘Arrows For Christ’ is absolutely killer!” – Metal Injection

“Eulogy of Man features top musicianship and is a heavy, melodic, groove-laden group of songs sure to excite old-school heads as well as forward-thinking fans of modern bands.” – Ghost Cult Magazine

“Michigan metal outfit Asylence have teamed up with Metal Insider to premiere a video for their emotionally-driven new song, “Endanger Us All.” – Metal Insider

“Melodic death metal powerhouse” – Decibel Magazine

“Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with going with a classic formula and hitting it out of the park.” – Dead Rhetoric

“Nasty, angry, aggressive, and heavy. What’s not to like? Ranging from old-school death metal, black metal, and deathcore, it’s all here plus a shed load of real technical ability and attitude. The future’s bright for Asylence.” – Myglobalmind Online Magazine

Almost two years to the exact date that Edmonton, Canada’s Juliet Ruin released their 2021 EP “Dark Water”, the band is ready to unveil new music with their first single of 2023 entitled “Give Me The Crown”. The song has the band’s trademark sound of coarse meets melodic djent metalcore.

“It’s a seething, yet amusing track about enduring revilement while maintaining a great sense of humour. An upbeat, sanguine song that implores the listener to be apathetic to judgment from people they’d never take advice from.” adds the band.

This single is only the first of many planned for release this year in the lead up to Juliet Ruin‘s new record also to be unleashed later in 2023.

In additional news, the Juliet Ruin is slated to perform a hometown show this coming April 8th at the Starlite Room along with performing at one of Canada’s decibel breaking open airs Loud As Hell Festival in Drumheller, AB on August 5th alongside Narcotic Wasteland, Necronomicon, Untimely Demise and more!

Show Dates:
Aug 5 – Drumheller, AB – Loud As Hell Festival w/ Narcotic Wasteland, Necronomicon, Untimely Demise, Gorgatron

Juliet Ruin was formed in 2015 from the ashes of a previous project Fiction of Fate with the desire to fuse metal sound with clean technical vocal stylings in a way that is both beautiful and beastly.

Clean and spirited, Juliet Ruin is comprised of Jess Ruin (lead vocals), Kent Geislinger – (guitar/backing vocals), Wesley Rands (guitar), Cody Reid (bass/backing vocals), and Jesse Bauman (drums); creating an original sound chock full of catchy hooks that convey a fresh and emotive feel to their heavy music.

Juliet Ruin took the obligatory first step with their debut self-titled EP in 2017 and quickly made their way through the local scene, captivating audiences with high-energy interactions that evoke emotion, vulnerability, and power over various local gigs and appearing at several festivals over their flourishing career.

The next exciting step for Juliet Ruin was the release of their first full-length album ‘Old Stardust, Love and Chaos’ in 2019 which showcased more technical and heavy instrumentation, including some dabbling in low-tuned 7-string guitars. The lead vocals also on that release increased in volume of screams and clean techniques with complimented pop-esque power vocals.

In 2020, the age of Covid, things were tough, no touring, no fans to perform in front of, but not seeing it as a lost cause, Juliet Ruin came together to do what they do best, uniting their love for the music and writing new bangers for current fans and new ones to come. Juliet Ruin was very excited to kick off 2021 with a new EP “Dark Water”.

Now the band returns with more music for 2023, with their first single of the year “Give Me The Crown”.

“If you are a fan of the likes of JINJER, INFECTED RAIN, THE AGONIST and BUTCHER BABIES then the “Dark Water” E.P is one for you to check out. The E.P opens with the title track “Dark Water” as a ferocious riff creeps in as the rhythm section sounds away. From then the band are now in full swing as the very haunting sounding vocals coming in. The song leads to a sing along chorus with a cool lead line afterwards. When the breakdown hits the vocals add a sort of dreamy feel to it until the guitar solo sections kick in. Great way to start things off.” 8/10 – Metal Temple

““Dark Water” by JULIET RUIN is a great listen and one I really enjoyed. From listening the vocals have a lot of range as Jess goes from hauntingly clean to aggressive death growls. The band has a very modern sound that is filled with great riffing and killer grooves. The songs here are great and you can hear their influences at times too. This is a band that, from listening to this, sounds like they need to be experienced in a live setting and I would love to hear more from them in the future.” – Metal Temple

“As mentioned, Juliet Ruin is not a stranger to attention and praise and can expect a lot more with Dark Water. It is their most striking offering yet and with the new evolution in the band’s already potent sound, surely the first step to greater things.” – The RingMaster Review

“Bang your heads to the new EP by this amazing Canadian Modern Metal crew, reflecting a turn to darker sounds and grittier vocals while still preserving the spirit of what makes the band who they are.” – The Headbanging Moose

“Bloody love it! One of the best EPs I’ve heard this year so far. ” – Ever Metal

Israeli Prog NEOLIA’s Get Personal With Live Video “Your Prophecy”

Self-Titled Album Out May 2023

Neolia was formed in 2013 in Tel Aviv, Israel and after years of pushing boundaries and challenging musical conventions, they are finally ready to unleash their debut self-titled album to the world this coming May 2023. With a blend of progressive metal and experimental sounds, this album promises to take listeners on a sonic adventure like no other. Now, they are offering a live music video for the track “Your Prophecy” so listeners can see and feel the passion that goes into their music. The band expands on the personal background of the single:

“This is a personal song for Tomer as it derives from his day-to-day life as both a silent observer as a child, and an active participant in trying to save his father from his own self as an adult, almost, as if he was living in a parallel world not realizing his the path he is on. As things would tend to get violent in the house, it was inevitable that something would break and grow distant.”

Music-wise, the track gradually increases in its energy and dives back down and up again showing how from the softest moments things start to boil and finally explode. Tomer Mash (guitars, vocals, synth, and programming) injected both Latin and “Gypsy” elements into the track, which included sending vocalist Ben Reiss to research specific influences who of course put things through his own filters further adding texture and dimension to the track.

As evident in the video, through their live performance, Neolia takes the audience on a journey. The band members, in their powerful, energetic, yet qualitative playing, provide the musical space for all. Throughout the show, rituals come and go, like lighting esoteric scents around the crowd, painters on stage, mystic ceremonies, and even food sharing. All of this hook the crowd to completely blend and integrate, whether they choose to express themselves freely, or close their eyes and meditate throughout the show. They are recommended for fans of TOOL, Porcupine Tree and Snarky Puppy.

The self-titled album was mastered by Howie Weinberg (Metallica, Pantera, Nirvana) and is due out on May 5th, 2023.

Following their East Coast Music Award-nominated 2015 EP “City Lights”, and 2018 LP “Call of the Void”, which won the 2019 ECMA “Loud Recording of the Year”, Halifax, Canada’s Kilmore has just released their latest offering, the new EP “From the Inside” produced by Jon Landry (The Stanfields). The record features six tracks of groovy, stoner rock with metal elements that can be strongly felt in the band’s two music videos “Tempest” and “Firestone” released ahead of the EP’s introduction to the world.

‘”From the Inside’ has exposed a maturity in our sound from our last two records. Working with producer, Jon Landry, helped us craft the best version of the songs. It was written during a time when we all felt uncertain about our futures not just in music but in life. It has themes of rebirth, admiration, confusion, frustration, and hate. The songs all have a mixture of emotions, but the EP will carry you through journeys of escapism. This EP, in our opinion, is our best work to date and we are thrilled to release it.” adds vocalist/guitarist Heather Harris.

The lyrics for “From the Inside” were written during real change around the world and an internal bittersweet struggle. Along with that, Heather Harris became a new mother and was trying to find her place in a new reality really speaks loudly in the emotions on the record. Some themes are of destruction while others of hope, each song has its own theme/feel. Listening to these selected six songs, the band offers up an unearthing of realities in life through sounds and wanting to create something new.

Kilmore is recommended for fans of Royal Thunder, Baroness, Ghost, and The Damn Truth, “From the Inside” is now available as of March 31st, 2023.

About: Kilmore finds its roots deep in influence from two siblings who immigrated from Newry, Northern Ireland at an early age to Vancouver, BC, and eventually to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Two new Canadians growing up in the nineties, finding their musical diet of grunge to surpass the time.

Fast forward to 2013, sister and brother Heather Harris (vocals, guitars) and Dan Doran (guitars) formed with the addition of Neil Spence (bass) and Lor Sangster (drums) to the original lineup. Sangster was later replaced in 2019 by Jon MacIsaac (drums) from local bands Chosen Lung, Burdened, Earth Alter to complete the current lineup.

Dark, aggressive, brawny, and haunting, Kilmore is recommended for fans of Royal Thunder, Baroness, Windhand, and The Damn Truth.

– 30 –

“While Halifax band Kilmore’s latest album isn’t technically out until March’s end, we couldn’t sleep on having it in this list: A follow-up to the band’s ECMA Loud Recording of the Year-winning album Call The Void, the upcoming From The Inside is stoner groove music with a heavy hit of metal mixed in. The lead single “Firestone” is all the proof you need that this one’s gonna slap.” – The Coast Halifax

“Kilmore is by far the best Canadian stoner/groove/psych band I’ve heard in forever, I have a feeling their rise to the big stage will happen sooner than later. For fans of this musical genre, From the Inside is an absolute MUST! ” – Spill Magazine

“”From the Inside” is blessed with grandiose melodies, grooving mid-tempo numbers or triumphant anthems. A great album by great musicians.” – Metal Division Magazine
