Asymmetric Universe is an instrumental project founded in 2018 by the Italian brothers guitarist Federico Vese and bassist Nicolò Vese, with a goal of pushing the limits of modern prog, blending coherently different genres. Teaming up with drummer Gabriele Bullita and a collection of guest players, they create complex yet accessible music ranging from modern prog metal to fusion, from avant-garde jazz to emotional ambient, along with chamber orchestration. Their hard work is on full display with the upcoming EP “The Sun Would Disappear As I Imagined All The Stars”, which they explain in detail:

“The meaning of the EP title is a metaphor for losing self-awareness while getting distracted by external world events that lead us to wish to be something we are not. The first song, so the first step “Extrospection”, is about the clash between the individual and the outer world. The second step, “As Within, So Without”, it’s about the internalization of the experience of the outer world, through acceptance and introspection. The third step “Kaleidoscope” tells of the journey, the individual is now excited about the external world and wants to actively interact with it joyfully. The last step “(re): emerge” is the synthesis of what we really are within and how we manifest in the outer world. We can now truly feel experiences as they really relate to our true self, without judgments and opinions of the mind and of the external world.”

Asymmetric Universe hopes that this new release will be appreciated by both metal and fusion fans. They intend for the EP to be seen as an emotional journey through music trying not to fall into any genre-related clichés.

“The Sun Would Disappear As I Imagined All The Stars” features a live-recorded string quartet and a wind quartet. It has been mixed by Forrester Savell and mastered by Ermin Hamidovic. Following the release date, the band will be touring the EU and UK as the opening act for Ne Obliviscaris and Persefone.

Experimental, elegant, and emotional this album is recommended for fans of Animals As Leaders, Plini, and Owane.

Unleashing their debut album “The Mountain” this past March, Canada’s Nomad, hailing from the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, offer up a dynamic, progressive death metal. Having three vocalists creates a unique sound that is powerful, complex, and full-bodied. They have solidified their name in the local scene with festival appearances and supporting big-name acts and their debut album “The Mountain” has been ear worming its way to metal fans around the world.

Today, drummer Bretton Melanson shares his drum and vocal playthrough for the track “Rise in the Fall” via its premiere on TechnicalMusicReview HERE.

“The title for this track came first, and I thought “Gee, that sounds like the Russian revolution”, one regime rising while the previous one falls, and it happens in the fall… not that deep of a double meaning, but it is one nonetheless. Wish I had written this in high school, would have upped my mark in history class, and I probably would have got top marks in the school (darn second place). Yes I am a huge nerd.” adds Melanson.

“The Mountain” is a nine-track album mixed by Bretton Melanson, mastered by Christian Donaldson, and the album artwork was done by Angela Grimmuza. Throughout the album, Nomad confronts personal and societal issues, explores sci-fi worlds, and questions authority. They seamlessly go from soft, clean ballad parts to raging, full-throttle death metal chaos. Drum and guitar solos abound, and the diversity in the vocal styles makes “The Mountain” an exciting and dynamic musical adventure. A melting pot of different styles and eras, Nomad is recommended for fans of Devildriver, Gojira, and Lamb of God.

“The Mountain” was released on March 3, 2023, and is available on Nomadbc.bandcamp.com (CD, Digital), Spotify.

About: Nomad is a dynamic, progressive death metal band from the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada and consists of drummer/vocalist Bretton Melanson; guitarist/vocalist Matt Johnstone; guitarist/vocalist Jeff Mabb; plus bassist Josh MacDonald. Kickstarted by Johnstone who was looking for an outlet, he approached Melanson and since the material felt right and with their previous history playing together, the ball was rolling. Over a few years, there was a lineup flux, with each additional leaving their mark on the material. Ultimately, they then recruited Mabb as a second guitarist and MacDonald on bass, and working collaboratively, they weave their melodic, groovy death metal.

Looking to avoid going too crazy on the violence and gore tropes that are quite prominent in metal music, they tend to tell stories based on fictional characters, historical events, science fiction, and astrophysics. Each member adds their own flair to the songs, imprinting their distinct influences.

When they hit the stage, the audience is greeted by multiple vocalists that deliver a massive wall of layered sound, integrated sound effects, and a well-thought-out visual element. They played Canada’s prominent Armstrong Metalfest in 2016-2019 and performed alongside bands such as Kataklysm, Origin, Soulfly, and Alestorm. They are releasing their debut album “The Mountain” in 2023.

– 30 –

“Scary, violent and good” – Frequence Metal

““Revolution” takes no time at all to seize attention. The drums clatter and boom with immediately thrilling effect, and around those convulsive strikes the guitars slowly meander and ring in a beguiling harmony. The vocals have their own interesting harmony but flare into rabid, throat-cutting growls. That slithering opening melody, warmed by the bass, reappears and becomes a swelling ear-worm — but with a pause the song transforms into a hulking and jolting brute. The guitars jitter and whine, and the vocals change into goblin-like snarls, creating a feeling of sinister menace, which becomes even more sinister thanks to an exotically swaying and swirling guitar solo whose piercing tones are somehow inviting as well as increasingly crazed. Maniac howls, ugly gurgling expulsions, and berserk screams vent the lyrics with their own groove, while the band as a whole continue on with their nasty but highly headbangable beating.” – No Clean Singing

“The Mountain is a smorgasbord of ideas delivered with unrelenting energy and creativity. It’s not the kind of metal that questions the very foundation of the genre like a Zeal & Ardor would, but it’s really questioning the notion of how many influences a band can integrate into its core identity. This record challenged me and tested my boundaries as a metal fan. This was not exactly my comfort zone as I’m usually more of an atmospheric guy at heart, but it’s not meant to make you feel comfortable. The Mountain is meant to explore the gaps between the past and the present, the harsh and the melodic and the catchy and the complex. New ideas are never easy and they should never be.” – Vox & Hops

“Nomad clearly have a higher purpose musically than just severing eardrums, and the album is an evolution in real-time. While the album has no concrete, overarching story to tell, each song is placed in the order that it was written. The time between opener “Burning Alive” and closer “Choke” puts the wide distance the group has creatively gone through in perspective. While The Mountain starts and ends in a rage, it does so in a different manner. Early on, the groove is strong, but by the latter third of the album, a more technical front is taken. In-between that, the trio of vocalists in the band employ everything from raspy wails to low grunts to melodic singing.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“Listeners can expect diversity in approach with a meld of groovy death meets modern and semi-progressive influences in terms of hooks and heaviness across these nine tracks – a balancing act that has mixed results… Almost clocking in at an hour, The Mountain has certain appeal for those who love the aggression of modern, progressive groove-oriented metal” – Dead Rhetoric

“what is undeniable is that NOMAD plays the card of singularity, and with a disarming naturalness.” – MetalNews.fr

“for a brand new band coming from a fairly remote area, NOMAD has really hooked my interest and in the future, this might become an extremely potent band.” – Wormwood Chronicles

“they’re really a great band, as shown on songs as “Burning Alive” (where a classic Death/Thrash Metal appeal is clear, with many contrasts between grunts and shrieks, and many hooking parts), “Haunted” (a surprising song, filled with excellent arrangements and surprising elements, as the excellent and technical bass playing and clean chords parts, and tribal percussive moments), “Revolution” (a true and Progressive, with shifts between aggressive and introspective moments with clean vocals), “A Lonely Wanderer” (this one is more aggressive than experimental, abusing of the weight due a very good and technical playing of the drums, and what lovely Progressive melodies can be heard), “Blood Moon” (this one is essentially a Progressive Death Metal song based on a fine technical appeal and some melancholic touches, but always being brutal and aggressive, with excellent guitar parts and themes), and “Choke”. The others ones are equally excellent, so dive into this album without fears (and the lyrics are excellent, staying away from the usual themes based on ‘gore’ and ‘satan’ for some fictional characters, historical events, science fiction, and even Astrophysics)” – Metal Temple

Canada’s MEDEVIL Announces New Vocalist To Lineup

New Album Out “Mirror in the Darkness” In Tribute To Drummer’s Passing

Photo Credit – IDFK Design & Photography

Earlier this April, Medevil took the stage at a sold-out Hyperspace MetalFest in Vancouver, BC with the support of vocalist Eric Willmott (Apprentice, ex-Meridius) to fill in for the band’s main singer Liam Collingwood. Taking the stage and fans by storm during that event, today, the band announces they will continue future performances will Wilmott.

“Liam Collingwood is still a part of Medevil and will be continuing to work with us both creatively and in various singing roles on the upcoming album(s). Eric Willmott will be singing for us at all live performances, and is expected to sing as the lead vocalist on the upcoming studio albums as well.” adds the band.

Medevil recently released their new album “Mirror in the Darkness” on April 7th. The record is a big step up from their debut full-length “Conductor of Storms”, with a more progressive and ambitious direction than before. The album is also a tribute to drummer Chris Malcolmson who passed away after its recording. The songs on this new album have much more variety, and a lot more to offer, which should accommodate a wider array of music tastes from metal fans or fans of music in general. The band is very confident that fans of the first record will enjoy this one and they explain further:

“‘Mirror in the Darkness’ is our boldest step into different musical stylings than ever before. It is a very dark-sounding album mood-wise and can be described as ‘progressive power metal’ in most areas. Each song throughout sounds completely unique from the other, bringing out a new metal flavour unheard from the previous tracks. We also experimented with Drop-C tuning here on a couple songs, adding to the dark sound. While it is not a concept album, the lyrics throughout have consistent themes about heavy personal issues such as depression and negativity you feel in life.”

Their style on “Conductor of Storms” was heavily inspired by the classic ‘80s heavy metal bands, but for “Mirror in the Darkness” they started looking at other heavy metal influences within the progressive metal sphere such as Opeth, Porcupine Tree, and Mastodon. You can hear this influence on tracks like ‘No Peace in Rest’, ‘Dead Before Birth’ and ‘Veiled’ where they make use of longer arrangement structures, odd time signatures, and atmospheric soundscapes.

Intended to be listened to in a single sitting from front to back, Medevil spent a lot of time considering the flow of the album, from fast and energetic to dark and brooding, so there is a lot of variety that will come from a fully engaged listen. Dedicated to late drummer Chris Malcolmson, it is recommended for fans of Metal Church, Accept, and Baroness.

About: Medevil is a highly energetic, fast-paced metal band known for its tight songwriting, intense stage presence, and roaring vocals. They are one of the few metal bands coming out of Chilliwack BC and hold that title proud as they have earned much praise and respect since their inception in 2014. As one of the 6 national finalists of the 2015 Wacken Metal Battle Canada, they are becoming more and more renowned throughout the country; their fame attaining them a following in their local town and across through to Vancouver.

Their music could be described as “power thrash” with half of their set being chorus-driven, and the other half focusing on blistering fast riffs. Influences for the band include Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metal Church. Their fast but catchy songs keep the crowd chanting throughout the set, and leave them wanting more. Liam Collingwood, the band’s singer, keeps the band image in theme with the songs while on stage and will wear thematic outfits when the mood demands it.

The band was founded on January 13, 2014, by Eric Wesa (bass), as well as brothers Liam (vocals) and Ross Collingwood (drums). It only took two months after the band’s inception before the boys found the ultimate guitar duo they were looking for, Gary Cordsen and Brett Gibbs. Once the lineup was solidified, they wasted no time performing shows and begin their musical journey. As a band, Medevil has two common goals; to explore their musical talents, and continue performing live for their fast-growing fanbase.

“At fifty six minutes in length, some listeners may be daunted by the sheer amount of Medevil they are being asked to absorb, but I can quite honestly say that there is not one second wasted here as the band deliver one of the most compelling, absorbing albums I’ve heard in quite some while. Congratulations to all involved.” – Sentinel Daily

“Medevil – Pray For Me – Six great new prog tracks you really must listen to!” – Prog Mag (March 6, 2023)

“a heavy onslaught of aggressive and menacing metal with moments of progressive diversion and musical exploration.” – Metal Roos

“The band has expanded their approach from their debut, writing songs that are more complex and progressive. Tracks like “Dead Before Birth” are intense and bombastic, while songs such as “Pray For Me” are mellower and more expansive. There are a few shorter numbers, but Medevil prefer extended compositions, with several tracks in the 6 to 9 minute range. The Udo Dirkschneider-esque vocals may be polarizing, but the songs are engaging and the musicianship impressive.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“There are more twists that catch you off guard here (Dead Before Birth), and is the perfect way to kick off “Mirror in the Darkness”. It’s probably their most complicated song rhythmically, and while they didn’t originally write this thinking it should be complex, it seemed to happen naturally with the riffs they were coming up with at the time. Somehow despite that complexity, it’s also extremely catchy.” – First Angel Media

“The sequel doesn’t disappoint in any way. The listening pleasure increases with every single track. Nothing is veiled (“Veiled”) here, the bandwidth of musical ability is lived out openly. Who or what to emphasize here is up to you. I recommend “Pray for Me”, “Weight of the Crown” and “Veiled” as check out tips. With the mirror of darkness you can see the direction: it’s going forward!! My rating is a full 10 Hellfire points.” – Hellfire Magazin

“Medevil has put their thinking caps on for this because there are some really interesting songs on this. There’s something for everyone on this so it will appeal universally to metalheads everywhere. Something is happening in Canada because this is about the tenth release I’ve reviewed, and they are all of high quality and pretty diverse. The question is – what will Medevil do next? They’re going to have to go some to top this. Score: 9/10” – My Global Mind

“Medevil’s overall sound is often interesting, like a weird mash-up of Metal Church and 90s prog-metal acts like Wicked Maraya. Cool ideas populate nearly every song and there are a collection of killer moments that hook the ear ” – Angry Metal Guy

“Overall, a heavy onslaught of aggressive and menacing metal with moments of progressive diversion and musical exploration.” – Metal Gods Tv

Rockshots Records – Metal Duo KRASHKARMA Announce New Album “Falling To Pieces” + New Music Video For Title Track

EU / USA Tour Dates

Los Angeles’ KRASHKARMA can easily be described as one of metal’s most accomplished duos. With an impressive track record, which includes over 3 million views on their YouTube channel, over 100,000 followers on Facebook and more than 600 shows performed around the globe, the band is ready to unveil new material with their 6th studio album entitled “Falling To Pieces” coming June 2023 via Rockshots Records.

Looking behind the facts and figures, the band is one of the only few metal duos with a female drummer and
vocalist, and a single guitarist/bassist. From behind the drum kit the energetic Niki Skistimas keeps the rhythm rock-tight as she delivers her seductively-charged vocals; meanwhile, guitarist/bassist and co-vocalist Ralf Dietel brings the material to life with his unique Frankenstein guitar/bass creation. Never before have two people created a sound so immense yet so vibrant.

For the new full-length, the duo wrote and recorded at Karma Kollective Studios in North Hollywood, California along with Ralf Dietel taking on producing, mixing, and mastering plus artwork duties. They are a self-producing duo that can be considered a jack of all trades when it comes to everything from creating to presenting their music.

A representation of the universal human experience, where the blending of differences creates something extraordinary, KRASHKARMA is intense, raw, dynamic, and electrifying. Featuring 12 tracks, “Falling To Pieces” is a story that will take fans on a journey from start to finish. From the thunderous drum intro and heart-wrenching scream pouring out of Niki Skistimas’ whole being, it sets the stage for what’s to come. From there, the album takes you on a wild ride, with ups and downs that will keep listeners’ ears excited to hear what’s next. KRASHKARMA has put a lot of effort into crafting a narrative that’s both compelling and epic, with each song building on the last to create a cohesive whole. Along the way, listeners will encounter soaring melodies, crushing riffs, and blistering solos over hammering grooves interplaying with the vocal harmonies between Niki and Ralf that KRASHKARMA is known for.

“Our fans will absolutely love our new album. It’s heavier and better than anything we’ve ever done before. We are confident that they will be blown away by it. There are all the elements that make our sound our own. Ralf really dove into utilizing every resource available to him to write the most creative riffs and bass lines possible on his prototype guitar/bass instrument, Ms. Frankenstein. We wanted the sound on the record to be as close to how we will play it live as possible and kept that in mind in the recording process. Our fans know we love a good melody and any opportunity to chant together, so there will be plenty of that as well. All the songs represent a significant moment in time for us and we’re excited to share them with the world.” adds drummer/vocalist Niki Skistimas.

Today, the duo presents their first single and the album’s title track accompanied by a music video. The song’s riff is reminiscent of the band IN FLAMES. It starts with a hard-hitting intro, followed by a short half-time verse, and then ends in a bittersweet chorus. When the duo is on tour in the US, they often drive long distances at night and to stay awake, they like to listen to Melo-Death Metal, and that has left its mark on them.

The band adds about the track:

“Falling To Pieces starts off with a melodic heavy riff and within 60 seconds it showcases all the elements that create the monster known as KRASHKARMA. The lyrics describe the feeling of being lost in darkness, with the protagonist floating somewhere between the stars. They feel like they are slowly falling apart and that their darkness is growing. Like a sense of falling over the edge and being unable to turn back, with the gravity that once held them down no longer working. The song ends with crossing over into the unknown and fading away, like a star in the sky.”

“Undead Island” is the materialization and the channeling of all the ideas and energies expressed so far by Membrance in a unique and well-defined tangible direction. The band has partly abandoned the death n roll influences to give more space to inject black metal and has limited the progressive digressions to have more direct and compact tracks. The lyrical path of the full length is influenced by everyday life, dealing with themes not only of the band’s personal ones but also sometimes not discussed in metal music in general.

With these premises, the band is absolutely sure that their fans will appreciate this work more than its predecessors, and Membrance is equally sure that with this album they will push messages in equal measure to what they have always pushed mainly with the music.

The band adds:

“We want to offer an experience of deep anger, like being able to identify with an innocent prisoner kicking and screaming behind steel bars. We want to bring to the mind of anyone who listens to us the auspicious lagoon folklore that is fading away and to recall the times of a Serenissima that made us proud of our city but which is now almost forgotten. With this record, we want to convey our frustration and anger in our impotence and make people feel all the strength and energy we still have to fight, scream and cling tooth and nail to what we have left of our memories so as not to lose it permanently.”

Today, the band introduces the first single from the forthcoming “Undead Island”. Entitled “Riva de Biasio”, it’s a bold thrash-death track that tells the story of a kidnapping cannibal butcher.

“We decided to release this single because its crowd reaction was amazing when we played it live. Not even Chef Tony would be happier to promote such a noisy and ergonomic chainsaw!” adds the band.

Membrance was born in Venice in 2012 from the mind of founding member Davide Lazzarini as a Death Metal and Black Metal crossover project, it wasn’t until 2014 and onwards, after several line-up changes, that the group stabilized in old-school Death Metal with blues/rock n’ roll influences, which was reinforced by the entry of lead guitarist Pietro Battiston.

After an intense period of live activity in the underground and various demo recordings, in 2017 Giovanni De Fraja joined as the drummer and Membrance decided to work more seriously on their own music. They immediately recorded and produced their own debut album “Abyss”, initially released independently it was quickly picked up by the Ukrainian label Envenomed Music.

Thanks to this first release, the group received a fair amount of approval in the Italian and European underground scene, and we’re contacted to play at Metaldays of Tolmin 2018 in Slovenia, along with the Winterdays of Metal of the same year, plus asked to be opening support for various international bands on tour in Italy such as Marduk, Brujeria, and Necrodeath.

These successes pushed the group to collaborate again with Envenomed Music and with the support of Narcoleptica Productions, Membrance produced their second studio album “Morality’s Collapse”, which was released at the beginning of 2019 with the sound evolution of 16th Cellar Studio in Rome (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hideous Divinity, Hour of Penance), starting a path towards the Swedish old school Death sound “HM2 style”.

However, with the arrival of the Covid pandemic, despite growing approval and greater support for the international live scene such as Entombed A.D., Cripple Bastards, and Benediction, after 5 years of activity, Pietro decided to abandon the group leaving to Gregorio, the rhythmic player who just recently entered the group, the task of replacing him.

Giacomo Rusconi also entered the band as the second guitarist, the group embarked on a path of musical evolution in the following years in which it abandoned the blues influences to embrace a more black metal style and worked on texts in Venetian dialect along with lyrical influences inspired by the lagoon folklore.

During the summer of 2022, the recordings of the third studio work “Undead Island” were concluded with the support of the AudioCore Studio, which further develops the sound path started on the basis of the Swedish HM2 sound.

“Undead Island” is due out June 23, 2023.

Austrian funk prog metallers Hog Meets Frog recently released their third EP this past February. The record is a non-conceptual concept EP under the motto of the title: “humANIMALization”. Its purpose is to be witty and entertaining as it flirts with obscurity and is meant to be entirely thought-provoking for listeners.

Frontman Peter ’PETZ’ Schwabl explains:

“When the animal in the human awakens, then, for example, one turns into a bigot monkey and the other becomes an insecure piggy, one becomes a peeping control bear and the other becomes a greedy stock market bull. Just this behavior – sometimes silly, monkey or also clumsy, bearish – is told in the lyrics, as well as through the wide range of sound worlds and riffs.”

Today, in support of the EP, the band is sharing their Claymation video for the track “Of Snakes ‘n’ Moles ‘n’ Bulls ‘n’ Dough”.

“The text tells of a friendship between a snake and a mole and a greedy bull who is addicted to the madness of money-making and wants to break up the friends to get more money himself. In the end, of course, friendship wins. Musically, this song starts with a stonerous riff and then slides into a dry narrative stomping, and then further into a spherical reverberant sound of delirium.” says bassist/vocalist – Peter ’PETZ’ Schwabl.

Watch and listen to “Of Snakes ‘n’ Moles ‘n’ Bulls ‘n’ Dough” via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

With influences ranging all over the musical spectrum from progressive and death metal to jazz, to world music and funk, there is something for everyone in the riffs and chords that Hog Meets Frog presents on this avant-garde record.

The band finds that the best approach to serious topics is with fun and that is emphasized with “humANIMALization”. Most people will first notice the cheerful, funny, sick side of Hog Meets Frog, but a few will remove the mask and then let themselves fall into the deepest depths of the music and lyrics and see what thoughts lie dormant there: Stories that life writes.

Adventurous listeners are invited to go through the looking glass and find the deeper meaning in each of the tracks on the EP, or simply frolic in the bright colours on the surface. “humANIMALization” is recommended for fans of System of a Down, Primus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, TOOL, and Frank Zappa.

“humANIMALization” was released on February 24, 2023, and is available on Hogmeetsfrog.bandcamp.com, Spotify.

“If you are a fan of the jerky, spiky, awkward sounds of Primus you’ll love this. I daresay if you enjoy a bit of early Red Hot Chili Peppers you may also dig this – certain parts of the record do have a sneak peek toward Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention and The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown – not too obviously, but those sly, sideways little looks are there.” – Ever- Metal UK

“‘Does humor belong in music?’ was once a question that the late/great Frank Zappa asked – and Austrian funk-prog metallists apparently agree wholeheartedly, as evidenced within the video for their new tune, “Peeping-Bear’s Exegesis of Not Peeping,” – Bravewords

“Many hard rockers like when it is funky. Then this cool act must not be overlooked! This unit is a tight bunch of players and they have catchy tunes, for sure… Well worth checking out for fans of crazy funky hard rock.” – Melodic.net

“There’s an element of uniqueness to how each of these songs are written, although you can’t deny the clear influence of say the Primus bass lines or Zappa-esc experimentation, yet it is within the niche, thematic storytelling that gives Hog Meets Frog a real musical identity. The way they can tell a story with humour yet allow you to consider the real and often times scary true circumstances behind where these stories originate is what gives this band their staple. Certainly one to look out for in the future, long live Sqeekquackmusic!” – Metal Epidemic

“If I had to draw a comparison for this band… it’d be Primus, heavy catchy, quirky and big bass guitar. Great stuff!” – Mosh Pit Radio 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

“They’re from Austria. One of the greatest song titles (Peeping-Bear’s Exegesis of Not Peeping) I’ve ever heard. That’s all you’re getting. Press play and share the adventure” – Metallum Sub Terra

“If the song titles like Apes don’t smoke cigars, just pipes are very funny, the musical aspects are of very high quality and definitely not “suitable for a headband”. Sure, funk isn’t a run-of-the-mill genre to sing along to, but sophisticated music at the highest level. So to speak, jazz music of the metal species. One can clearly register the inspiration of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Primus and Co. on this record, whereby the songs transport positive energy.” – Rock Magazine

“Overall – As chaotic as claimed, with quirky features, throughout, it’s fair to say that you never know where this is going to go, next. Trippy, outlandish and bizarre, it’s a wacky wonderland, all of its own… ‘HumANIMALIZATION’ can never be accused of being boring or predictable. Spicy and novel, in equal measure, it may appeal more to niche audiences. Hard to summarise easily, it’s a case of suck it and see.” – Rock Queen Reviews

0 Canada’s DESPITE THE REVERENCE Marches Into Maturity With “War Machine”; New Album “Stress Of Evolution” Out Now!

Canada’s Despite The Reverence Marches Into Maturity With “War Machine”

New Album “Stress Of Evolution” Out Now!

Impressively, Saskatoon, Canada’s Despite The Reverence has been together writing and performing for over 10 years now with the same lineup and as of this year, has produced five full-length albums. The most recent addition to their catalog is “Stress Of Evolution”, a twelve-track, neck-breaking monster of an album that builds on all of their previous work. The latest video out is “War Machine”, five minutes of thundering drums, wild solos, and groovy riffs. The band details:

““War Machine” is another heavy rocker and packs a lot of energy. The song comes in with a roar and pounding guitars, bass, and drums. The verses quiet down but only for a moment and really to give more emphasis to the rest of the song. By the time the bridge hits in the middle, the song is full steam ahead. A ripping solo followed by a halftime but heavy-beaten ending wraps the song up. The lyrics are powerful and strong and the outro has a ring to it with the feeling of royalty.”

Watch and listen to “War Machine” – https://youtu.be/W9osKPWGe8k

According to the band, they wanted the album to be dynamic from heavy to melodic. It’s a mixture of tempos, styles, and instrumentation. They firmly believe that variety is the spice of life and they focus on bringing everything together under one roof creating unique and interesting compositions which flow together under a common concept.

They are very excited about this new album as they continue to evolve as a band and as songwriters. This album combines all of the best elements of Despite The Reverence that have been sharpened over the last 4 albums prior. All songs on the album were performed and written by Despite The Reverence; it was produced and mixed by Chris Douglas at The Sound Castle and the mastering was handled by Trevor Case at Case Mastering.

As with most bands, there is a wide variety of musical influences woven throughout Despite The Reverence’s music, including those from a variety of thrash, hard rock, prog, and heavy metal.

0 Video Game Metal SUPER MONSTER PARTY Slays Demons From Hell In Video For “This Is Doom!”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 25, 2023

Video Game Metal SUPER MONSTER PARTY Slays Demons From Hell In Video For “This Is Doom!”

Powerglove’s Ben Cohen Joins Their Ranks

In a classic and familiar manner, Super Monster Party confronts the legions of Hell in their latest video “This Is Doom!”, paying homage to the classic, well-loved video game DOOM. Their chaotic and intense heavy power metal lends an excellent soundtrack to the famous gameplay, which is complete with the effigies of the band.

The video is currently available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/t335H0p9vTQ

https://youtu.be/t335H0p9vTQ

and can also be found streaming on Spotify at https://spoti.fi/3mXYLpK

The band shares their concept:

“Super Monster Party provides an immersive experience where you are taken into the world of “Permadeath” where video games are real and you “The Hero” must battle your way to different worlds to become its champion and save this reality from extinction. We want to create a link between our songs and the nostalgia of our favorite video games growing up.”

Hailing from South Florida, Super Monster Party‘s albums consist of original songs based on classic games such as Altered Beast, Zelda, and many other retro titles with immersive storytelling in-between that places the focus on the listener who is transported into the video game realm. To add to their theme, they also have their own playable video game titled “Permadeath” where you can play the story in real-time.

Super Monster Party have three albums under their pixelated belts so far “Permadeath” (2020), “SideQuest” (2021), and “Game Genie” (2022). They started as a mix of power metal and punk but over the years they have adopted a heavier sound. Catchy and entertaining, they are recommended for fans of Slipknot, Powerwolf, and Dragonforce.

The band is the concept of singer / songwriter, Rei Sega and features notable members Emilio Martinez (Ynwgie Malmsteem), Fernando Lemus (Lions at the Gate), and Jsin Lee Gomez along with songs being co- produced with Matt Laplant (Non- Point, Ellefson, Saliva).

In additional news, the band recently welcomed guitarist Ben Cohen (Powerglove) to their lineup.

“Ben is hands down one of the most talented and unique guitar players I’ve ever met and I’m excited to play alongside him in SMP.” adds vocalist Rei Sega.

Prepare to be blown away by the innovative and electrifying debut album from Neolia. This Israeli band has fused together progressive metal, thrash, and even reggae to create a truly unique listening experience that will leave you breathless. The latest single to come off this record is “Karma” which is presented alongside a music video featuring guest vocals from Ran Yerushalmi and guitar from Amit Plaschkes. The track originates from the conclusion that we are all temporary, and so our actions are also temporary, but it also plants seeds and affects our surroundings. This idea further drives the story of the main character Alex, whom we follow through the concept album.

The band expands:

“The song actually starts from the conclusion, that Alex realizes he had been under the same ego trip as the people he had blamed for his misfortune and mistreatment. This criticism slowly throughout the song becomes self-pity and griff on the self, and instead of channeling these emotions to becoming better for himself and for others, Alex channels it into depression and self-hatred.”

The music reflects the duality Alex holds, and builds up from this moment of clarity with an atmospheric reggae feel that drives you gradually into a fast and thrashy instrumental groove that drops at the verse. Although the song maintains its extreme energy while showcasing intensive changes in mood and tempo, it still maintains certain softer moments, the chorus is one of them. Throughout the track, the chorus increases in its energy up until the third and last one. The outro is stripped down into a piano only that uses the melody in a broken way, desperately outlining the need to refuel energy and rest.

Although Neolia’s music has its tender parts, it constantly keeps the listener on edge and unsettled.

Watch and listen to “Karma” via its premiere on HeavyBlogIsHeavy HERE.

The self-titled album was mastered by Howie Weinberg (Metallica, Pantera, Nirvana) and is due out on May 5th, 2023.
