King Ov Wyrms Unleash The Second Chapter of Black Metal Domination With “In Aeons We Spoke”

New Album “The Womb Ov Borealis” Out October 2023

L-R – Michael Oneirous Sanchez – Vocals, Guitars, Bass (Studio) – Ricky Williams – Drums

The hot winds of Tuscon, USA carry the cold and relentless black metal of King Ov Wyrms to eager metal heads around the world who are ready to dive into the latest album “The Womb Ov Borealis”, which takes listeners into new depths of the death and black metal realms. This is their second release, following 2020’s “Lord Ov Thrones” and the band cites that it is a step away, taking no inspiration from anything else and blindly embracing their creativity, forging their own identity and seeing where it takes them. This new look at the band first comes with the single “In Aeons We Spoke” which the band comments on:

“In Aeons is essentially the title track for us, it’s by far the biggest embodiment of the album and a great entryway into what’s about to come. The track starts out with the haunting bellowing sounds of otherworldly entities while we creep in with our instruments to set the stage for the horror we are trying to bring forth. It’s definitely the “attention grabber” of the album, and the instruments going in full force lets you know what this album is gonna give you straight from the beginning.”

King Ov Wyrms decided to take a chance this time around and make a music video actually featuring them performing the song even though they are primarily a studio project without a performing lineup. The band wanted the physical presence of guitarist/vocalist Oneirous and drummer Ricky Williams ushering in their new form. They have rebirthed themselves in the fires of chaos and come out even stronger than before with new drive and fervour.

Extreme and dark, “In Aeons We Spoke” is a massive step forward for the band, who have taken on a more diverse writing style and approach to the material. They almost have taken a more progressive approach to the material while staying close to their death and black metal roots. The video is available now via its premiere on SlamWorldwide at https://youtu.be/dZQ36xGDi-k

Recommended for fans of Belphegor, Vader, and Morbid Angel, King Ov Wyrms’ sophomore album “The Womb Ov Borealis” is due out on October 6, 2023, and is available for pre-order at https://kingovwyrms.bandcamp.com.

“Fury does indeed radiate from the music in violent waves. The song (Thorne Bearer) takes flight through rapid-fire drum battery and deep, dismal, heaving tremolo’d riffing that climbs and flares in manifestations of madness and misery, and squalls in blasts of vicious, mauling cruelty. Sanchez contributes his own vocals to the melee, venting horrid growls and scorching screams, which add to the music’s enraged and ferocious striking power. The song’s urgent pace never relents, but the drum patterns morph, as do the riffs, which feverishly squirm and flail as well as jolt and jar in savage, pulsing fashion. The jet-fueled energy and barbarous intensity of the music are both intense and captivating, and they’re joined in the red zone by sensations of rage and maniacal menace.” – No Clean Singing

“some beautiful, new extremity from King Ov Wyrms! Be on the lookout for their forthcoming album “Lord Ov Thornes”” – The Circle Pit

“King Ov Wyrms provide an unrelenting onslaught of classic death/black metal that should appeal to fans of Morbid Angel, Bloodbath, and Vader.” – Lambgoat

“Some pretty savage blackened death metal here. Lord ov Thornes is one of those albums that starts at full speed and doesn’t slow down much, if at all. Take 51 minutes of that and call me in the morning… If you’re at all a fan of very fast and heavy black and death metal and have been looking for a new band that does it well, King of Wyrms just delivered the goods for you.” – The Metal Crypt

“Lord Ov Thornes is a sickening effort that blazes with satanic and ritualistic power. Marvel in horror at what is crafted here, beginning with the unforgiving Threnody and the sheer brutality of The Great Sleeper. Within the first two tracks, it’s abundantly clear what we have here is something dredged from a well situated in hell.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Lord Ov Thornes”, the debut album by KING OV WYRMS, a worthy contender in the late year heralding the cold and darkness that is coming for us. The man has left nothing to chance, electing to fill every position himself on both sides of the studio glass, and the end result is a consistent and thought-out fifty-one minutes of solid metal.” – Metal Temple

“it deserves a place on your playlist if you like your music heavy, malevolent and underpinned by Lovecraftian themes.” – Scream Blast Repeat

“King Ov Wyrms is blasting brutal death loaded with lots of black metal riffs and dual growl/shriek vocals, with a death/brutal production. Press “play” and watch this thing launch into linear relentless attacks of brutality over and over for the duration. It is almost totally nonstop blasting, energetic, superfast extremity only for the true love-it-all fanatics.” – Metal Bulletin

“King Ov Wyrms sees Sanchez present a straightforward, ruthless, rampaging festival of hard hitting, heavy riffs encased in a thick, apocalyptic atmosphere. Embodying the spirit of the classic late eighties and early nineties acts with a new, modern aggression… From the album’s cataclysmic opening with ‘Threnody’ to its closing dissonant chord found in ‘Ascendance Of A Continual One’ which echoes into the back void, this is a straightforward blackened death metal album that is out to take the scene by the throat.” – Noizze UK

Canada’s AUGURIUM Unleashes A Hauntingly Quivering Track “Inquisition Of The Possessed”

New Album “Unearthly Will” Out August 2023

+ Western Canadian Tour Dates (BC, AB, SK)

L-R – Taylor MacDonald – Drums, Logan Barlow – Lead Guitar, Yianni Pantelopoulos – Vocals, Cejay Carnochan – Rhythm Guitar, Reid Paraszczynec – Bass

The deathly howls of “The Inquisition of Possessed” from Canadian death metallers Augurium will take you on a full-force impact of brutality. It’s a relentless track of speed and complex experimental sounds. It’s the perfect opening track to introduce current and new fans to the band’s forthcoming album “Unearthly Will”.

“This is by far the band’s most intricate song. We’re firing off on all cylinders for this song to express our attempt to dispel misconceptions about religion, and to promote inner discernment.” adds vocalist Yianni Pantelopoulos.

The track can be heard via its lyric video premiere on SlamWorldwide at https://youtu.be/acv80cu4iXU

Augurium builds on expressions of old and new references within the world of heavy metal transforming influences from black, death, progressive, and grindcore metal to concoct an original sound. “Unearthly Will”, the band’s second album and third studio offering to follow 2018’s “Unhallowed Ascendance” and 2017 EP “Omen” is a fresh take on what Canadian death metal has to offer. With a new and evolved lineup, Augurium brings forth heavy, filthy riffs in a variety of time signatures and genre-blending aspects, over finely executed percussion and rhythm section, along with low guttural screams.

Augurium has Western Canadian tour dates planned with Hooker Spit, Raising the Ruins, Kryotic, and Cell during the months of August and September in support of “Unearthly Will”. They promise a brutally good time for those who attend one of their gigs and plan to deliver a polished, dark, expressive, and rewarding performance for each city they visit.

Unabating, haunting, and quivering, “Inquisition of The Possessed” is recommended for fans of Septicflesh, Belphegor, and Rotting Christ.

“Unearthly Will” is due out on August 25, 2023, and is available for pre-order at https://augurium.bandcamp.com.

Canada’s BLACK PESTILENCE’s Confront Arrogance With D-Beat Black Metal In Video “Mortal Rift”

Western Canadian Tour Dates (AB, SK, MB) w/ Citizen Rage

Canada’s Black Pestilence has provided fans with a unique blend of punk rock and black metal since 2008. Impressively, they have produced six albums, with the seventh “Chaotic Wisdom” upon us soon. Lyrical themes are usually inspired by LaVeyan Satanism, current events, social issues, and the glorification of the Epicurean lifestyle. The second single “Mortal Rift” addresses the stratification within society. Vocalist/bassist Valax shares his thoughts:

“The weight of the arrogant will ultimately bring all of society down. This song begins with a quick samples-only intro which eventually leads into a d-beat sonic assault. I think we delivered on this album and the fans will get the same infectious sound this band is known for but with a different style of production.”

“Chaotic Wisdom” takes a darker and more analog turn in its overall sound. The band members used different techniques and allowed themselves to experiment more to ensure a better performance than the previous release.

Black Pestilence started back in 2008 when Valax decided to start a one-man black metal studio project with the purpose of combining black metal with elements of punk rock and noise. He wanted to create a band where there were no limitations to how the music should sound. Since then, the music has greatly evolved from how it used to sound in the early years, but still maintains its black metal core.

With a full frontal assault of energy and fast-paced black metal riffs, Black Pestilence continue to show they are powerhouses both on stage and in the studio. The single “Mortal Rift” will be enjoyed by fans of Toxic Holocaust, Impaled Nazarene, and Acidez.

Watch and listen to the music video for “Mortal Rift” via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

Their forthcoming album “Chaotic Wisdom” is due out on September 8, 2023, and available for pre-order at https://blackpestilence.bandcamp.com.

““Crushing” is indeed the first word that comes to mind when hearing the massive mauling tones of the riffs (The Devil’s Connection), like rock being excavated by some humongous machine. That machine drives forward with snapping punk beats, laced with a sinister yet glorious guitar melody. The music itself also becomes more vicious as the riffs start rapidly jabbing and then seething. But the music also channels darker and more despairing moods, before those two solos kick up the pulse and transform the music into an experience of evil ecstasy. The thing turns out to be a very catchy beast too.” – No Clean Singing

“A recent discovery that has tickled the excitement nerves in my jaded and encrusted ear drums is Calgary’s Black Pestilence. Their take on black metal incorporates old-school thrash and punk and if you listen closely you can hear the smatterings of plain ol’ rock ‘n’ roll and swaths of noise and is a sound that has been explored and nurtured since the band formed as a one-man project in 2008. The band’s handlers claim those fans of Toxic Holocaust, Impaled Nazarene, Municipal Waste, Midnight and Cradle of Filth unconcerned with genre boundaries will enjoy Black Pestilence and we have to say the nail has certainly been hit on the head in that regard. Additionally, fans of image and theatrics will find value in the band’s aesthetic which owes to a collision of black metal, goth rock and Judas Priest’s wardrobe and fashion sense. ” – Decibel Magazine

“Hail the Flesh is a nice, quick, in and out style album. There’s no messing around, there’s no overly extended bridges or songs that overstay their welcome. This is a 9 track album that only spans 34 minutes of constant, hard hitting riffs, blasts, and downright aggressive and dominative vocals. Even the final track on the album, “Ephemeral”, which nearly reaches 7 minutes in play time feels fresh the whole way through. ” – Metal Injection

“an album that really has a surprisingly wide range within the black/thrash/punk style so if you love that sort of black and roll aggressive metal, then “Hail The Flesh” will be an album for you.” – The Rockpit

“Calgary, Canada’s Black Pestilence bring a fresh take to the sound, though. Hail The Flesh, the band’s sixth full-length album is a blackened crossover punk-thrash album. It sounds old school, yet very 2000s at the same time…. Municipal Waste, Impaled Nazarene, Toxic Holocaust fans take notice.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“They really don’t have another gear beyond ‘top’ which makes for a splitting headache of heavy but one that satisfies. After all there are only 9 tracks and as Godless spits and snarls, Frauds to the Throne exudes filthy groove, My Will to Power rages hard and Ephemeral drags the suffering out, the over-riding thought is Black Pestilence have impressed.” 8/10 – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Honestly, anyone with the remotest interest in Black ‘n’ Thrash, Black ’n’ Roll or even just plain old Thrash is going to love this album. It is a blisteringly addictive listen. The skilfully fluid ways that all these genres are melded is both brilliant and compelling as well as being lyrically inspiring.” – MetalTalk.net

“First things first, it’s not every day you hear black metal as fun as this! That is partly because of the exciting thrash and not-so-serious punk influences, but also because the songwriting is very strong. ” 4/ 5 – The Independent Voice

“dirty, punky Black/Thrash that occasionally makes feedback noises and consistently slaughters everything in its path.” 4/5 – The Metal Crypt

0 Decibel Magazine Premiere – Streaming Now! NECRONOMICON EX MORTIS Releases Hair Raising Horror EP “Silver Bullet”

Streaming Now! NECRONOMICON EX MORTIS Releases Hair Raising Horror EP “Silver Bullet”

Top – Michael Bala – Guitar, Manuel Barbarà – Guitar
Bottom – Yusuf Rashid – Bass, Craig Schmul – Vocals, Joey Ferretti – Drums

Necronomicon Ex Mortis was formed by Michael Nystrom Bala out of a desire to combine elements of classic death metal, 80s shred worship, and gory lyrics about B-horror movies. Their debut S/T EP was released earlier this year and since there is no rest for the wicked, the follow-up EP “Silver Bullet” is upon us. The four tracks, presented with fury, were written specifically for this EP. They weren’t pulled from other projects or other albums, so that expectation was created going into the process. They strive to bring back the celebration of the twin guitar attack that bands like Iron Maiden and Racer X had. They share their excitement for the release:

“We’re excited to present this EP. We had a great time recording it and we feel live we’ve become even more comfortable with the music both individually and as a band. We think fans will notice the wide array of influences on this EP. We’re not just pulling from the same band or the same style of metal. Variety is the spice of life, kids.”

Necronomicon Ex Mortis was birthed when Bala wanted to take all his favorite things and have them in the same place. All his musical ideas, all of his favorite things about horror, and all of his favorite Paul Gilbert licks. He writes everything (Except for “Cycle of the Werewolf”, which guitarist Manuel Barbará wrote). He sits around and writes riffs and then does his best to rip off Yngwie and Paul Gilbert. He then asked Barbará to write the opening title track to a horror movie which he did with glee, spending the next 45 minutes going to town with his fretless guitar while his girlfriend tried to get him to do literally anything else.

This is just the start for the band, they have roughly 69 fully written songs ready to go that are both terrifying and titillating. You’ll be sleeping with the lights on after digging into “Silver Bullet”. It is recommended for fans of B movies, off-the-wall humor, The Black Dhalia Murder, Racer X, and Obscura.

Listen to the full-stream premiere of “Silver Bullet” via Decibel Magazine HERE.

The EP is due out on August 11, 2023.

“From start to finish, it really is a head-spinner and a heart-pounder, and some of the most fun you can have with your clothes on (though you might need to strip down and dry off after the EP is done with you.). If it wasn’t clear already, it’s damned clear after Silver Bullet that Necronomicon Ex Mortis is “a band to watch”. And if these peoples really do have 69 more songs fully written, bring ’em on!” – No Clean Singing

“Sit back and marvel at the eccentric sound of Necronomicon Ex Mortis as they take us on a wild, but brief journey of thrilling heaviness. Starting with a track about getting ripped apart by a giant undead ape called Crypt of the Gorilla God. It’s a thrashy and speedy opener that features some absolutely screaming guitar solos. An immediate example of the lovable nature of this EP and band. 8.5/10” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“A tale of primordial monsters living in the dark waters, “The Swamp” finds Necronomicon Ex Mortis at their storytelling finest, evolving a tale in classical fashion while having some moments in the guitar work that wouldn’t be out of place if they were written by Scott Carstairs for a Fallujah record. Somehow they have taken the bare bones that surround them and carved them intro intricate designs that leap between Metal sub-genres with death defying consummate ease. There is so much depth and texture than you’d usually expect to find in these songs… You have to wonder just how long it will be before these Gentlemen find themselves playing the Summer Slaughter Tour because that’s exactly where they should be [8.5/10]” – Metal Noise

“Necronomicon Ex Mortis have shown with Silver Bullet that they want to hit hard very quickly. The pieces are striking and make you want to discover more very quickly! We hope that the European public will respond to the call of the Americans and their desire to immerse us in horror stories worthy of the 80s. We wish them the best and we encourage you to dive into their universe!” – Sounding Shivers

“Thrashy death metal with catchy groove” – The Mosh Pit 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

“The fusion of Death Metal and shred is intriguing” – Amplified Magazin

Israeli Prog NEOLIA Vocalist Shares Playthrough Video For “Day In Day Out” Off S/T Debut Out Now!

Israeli proggers Neolia vocalist Ben Reiss is sharing his latest playthrough video for the track “Day In Day Out” off the Israeli prog band’s debut self-titled album released this May. Watch Reiss as he demonstrates his vocal techniques on this dynamic track full of groove, melody, and intensity via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

“Day In Day Out describes life in captivity and being drugged daily, tortured, and brainwashed. It follows the convoluted emotional and thought process that many times leads people to madness and even suicide. As the twisted and painful reality unfolds also the music reveals itself, and while going through hints of African and Latin hints it keeps its heavy and dark foundation till finally reaches the coda part, which is my solo creation in a form of an acapella part that insinuates total madness.” adds Reiss.

An experimental, progressive slab of metal that fans have been flocking to local shows for, Neolia‘s debut record flows with haunting melodies and complex rhythms that have been crafted with care and precision. With a blend of progressive metal and experimental sounds, this album promises to take listeners on a sonic adventure like no other. Musically, the full-length is a reflection of years of soaking up music of different genres from rock to pop to world music and whatnot. It’s a fusion of bits upon bits of pieces absorbed and processed and then spat out from a personal perspective. In its musical aspect, it’s rock and metal based, but with a twist of African, Latin, Jazz, and ambient that reaches the spectrum of high and low, tender, extreme, and crazy.

Neolia formed to give to others and to encourage people to come together (A connection between souls). The band showcases their art in a few dimensions, one that’s personal, and spiritual and the other that is musical and expressive.

Recommended for fans of Protest The Hero, Coheed and Cambria, The Human Abstract, and Tool, Neolia‘s self-titled album was released on May 5th, 2023, and is available on https://neolia.bandcamp.com/album/neolia, Spotify – https://spoti.fi/3nsmoaf

“as the chaotic screams of Dance of Violence and the ever-contorting Rise and Fall attest, the rawness of their emotions often turns that into a positive. The slow-burning Anchors builds on moody tension, jarring textures melt into a soundscape that, across seven minutes, throws in heavy bursts, tender lulls and spiky rhythms. It’s a wildly diverse ride… Their ambition or vision can’t be faulted.” – Prog Mag

“This band is going to be huge. You know how Tool and the Mars Volta developed into their own sound and how they have a legion of devoted fans? That’s what Israel’s Neolia is about to do with this self titled debut album.” – Transcending the Mundane

“Karma”, (the video) accompanied by a beautiful shot somewhere in the deserts of Israel, has that fantastic balance of aggression and melody that I love about alternative metal. At its more frenetic moments, like the excellent transitions from the heavier moments near the end of the track and the more melodic chorus, it reminds me of The Mars Volta, and that is one big compliment. Elsewhere, Yerushalmi’s guest vocals are expertly utilized to balance the rawer, more harried vocals of the band’s own singer, Ben Reiss. Together, they present the major melodic force on the track, while the instruments deliver well written, complex, and undeniable groove. This mix is exactly what alternative metal is so good for, hitting on both the emotional and the visceral level of enjoyment. The track ends up being both interesting to dissect and take apart but also something you can move and sing to. If the band’s self-titled is as good as this, and the other tracks released so far seem to indicate that that is indeed the case, then we’re in for a treat. Make sure you head on over to the band’s Bandcamp to pre-order it; I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!” – Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“Neolia’s Self-titled debut album is a reflection of years of soaking up music of different genres from rock to pop to world music and whatnot. It’s a fusion of bits upon bits of pieces absorbed and processed and then spat out from a personal perspective. In its musical aspect, its rock and metal based, but with a twist of African, Latin, Jazz, and ambient that reaches the spectrum of high and low, tender, extreme, and crazy.” – New Prog Releases

“Israeli prog metal outfit Neolia have a lot to offer on their self-titled debut. The band brings a ton of skill to the table, along with some excellent music influenced by such luminaries as Faith No More, Tool, and maybe even a bit of world music. They’re leaving it all out on the table for us here – warts and all. For a self-produced album, Neolia sounds really good.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“A big classic metal, a bit metalcore, clean and harsh vox, a little progressive musically also.” – The Mosh Pit – WORT FM 89.9 (Madison, WI)

“Voici un album convainquant, écrit et interprété avec un cœur gros comme ça qu’il convient de noter sur sa wishlist… Here is a convincing album, written and performed with a big heart that should be noted on your wishlist.” – Profil Prog

With four albums under their belts already, Slovenia’s Cvinger returns seven years later to take listeners back into black metal darkness with “Doctrines By The Figures of Črnobog”. Originally creating death metal, they have diverged fully into the black metal underworld, playing festivals in Europe among some of the biggest names in the genre. This new album explores the existence of man in a Slavic spiritual realm whose body and soul are split during the rites and incantations. It is a journey of lust, madness, faith, and sorrow and questioning the existence of its mortality, and the first chance to dig your teeth into this aggressive offering is with a music video for the title track. The band comments:

“The album was written after meditation seances in a cave of a prehistoric hunter. It is the fastest and most brutal album that we have created till now. The new album/single “Doctrines By The Figures of Črnobog” will be released by the Polish record label Via Nocturna on the 28th of August 2023. With the new creation, we are paying homage to the Slavic old faith, especially the occult and the dark aspect of it. The band has gone through some lineup changes, and by bringing in the new blood, we have changed the perspective of creating and redefining new hellish symphonies. Soon live rituals will follow in support of the new album.”

Watch and listen to the music video at – https://youtu.be/abR4sVDKwIY

This album was created as a stepping stone into a new chapter of Cvinger, who started with a raw and unpolished sound but with each EP/album that came forth, their production and composing became more advanced and most of all more personal. The album artwork was created by an amazing artist Mitchell Nolte. It represents a ritual of Slavs manifesting the obscure god of death and night Črnobog which in translation means the Black God.

Fast, destructive, and mystical, for Cvinger, a concert is not only playing their songs live. It is a ritual and a synergy of sound visualization and energy that is given to the listener. Join their rite by diving into “Doctrines By The Figures of Črnobog”. It is recommended for fans of Marduk, Mayhem, and Gorgoroth.

“Doctrines By The Figures of Črnobog” is due out August 28, 2023 via Via Nocturna (Physical) / Earache (Digital), and available for pre-order at https://cvinger.bandcamp.com

“Embodied in Incense sees Cvinger completely cast off the uncertainty of their debut and strike out as the leader of the Slovenian black metal scene.” (2018 – Metal Observer)

“The Enthronement ov Diabolical Souls should find a welcome home among the works of 1349, Marduk and Tsjuder. While the music still lives and breathes the second wave, Cvinger’s music no longer feels like paint-by-numbers black metal. Intense, blasting and dark; this Slovenian four piece has finally found their sound.” (2015 – Metal-Observer)

LAH 2023 lineup Spotify playlist – https://spoti.fi/3LjJ461

Alberta, Canada’s LOUD AS HELL returns with its most stacked lineup to date with its 2023 edition featuring JUNGLE ROT, NARCOTIC WASTELAND, INCITE, NECRONOMICON, THE CONVALESCENCE, and lots more (full lineup listed below).

Being held from August 4th to 6th at the Dinosaur Downs Stampede Grounds in Drumheller, AB, this year’s festivities see the return of American and Mexican bands joining the lineup along with artists from across Canada performing for the three-day open-air event.

Highlights for this year’s lineup witness the return of groovy death metal Americans JUNGLE ROT to Canadian soil to headline the closing night on August 6th in support of their latest album “A Call to Arms” released last year on Unique Leader Records.

Toledo, OH’s THE CONVALESCENCE is one of the USA’s unstoppable tour de force, touring Europe in 2022 with Chelsea Grin, and Carnifex plus an upcoming tour in Japan in 2023 with Exhumed and Defiled along with their latest single “No Survivors” ft. Scott Ian Lewis of Carnifex that has fans demanding more and more.

North Carolina’s Narcotic Wasteland’s (founded by ex-Nile guitarist Dallas Toler-Wade) festival appearance comes as part of the band’s first cross-Canada tour as they will be supporting their forthcoming third studio album in 2023 on Mega Force Records.

Phoenix, AZ’s INCITE, now close to 20 years into a career where everything was earned and nothing was taken for granted, the band bridges the gap between multiple crowds across various metal sub-genres. As renegade disciples of trailblazing architects like Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, and Machine Head, INCITE raise the torch for trend-killing and hipster-smashing metal. The band’s fifth album, Built to Destroy released in 2019 (Minus Head Records), is a visceral, urgent, voracious distillation of modern metal, with reverence for the past, produced by Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence) and mastered by Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed).

One of Canada’s longest-running blackened death metal bands hailing from Montreal, Quebec, NECRONOMICON‘s career spans over 30 years since it was first formed in 1988 by founding guitarist and singer Rob “The Witch” in the deep, northern part of Quebec’s Fjord of Saguenay. Since then, the band has carefully released each full-length without haste, allowing them to perfect every nuance before unleashing their sonic assaults upon the masses.

What the press is saying:
“Western Canada’s loudest heavy metal festival brings fans to town more known for dinos than drum solos.” – CBC Calgary

“Loud as Hell – one of Canada’s top underground metal festivals – was a metal family reunion. If you walked around the grounds, where tents covered the landscape like flowers, you would experience concert goers laughing, hugging and just enjoying the moment. The music played non-stop and the people were some of the best you’ll meet. What else do you need? If you’re a metalhead fan, mark it down for next year because this is a concert you don’t want to miss.” – Blackfalds Life

“Headbanger alert: Loud As Hell festival to ramp up the volume” – Calgary Herald

Vancouver’s Hardball is ready to take you on a grunge journey of dirty riffs and speedy shredding with their debut self-titled album, which is now streaming in full at the following links:

Spotify – https://sptfy.com/Oz8v

Bandcamp – https://hardball.bandcamp.com/album/hardball

Lyric video – “Worried As Shit” – https://youtu.be/rza3NATHCsk

The ten tracks deliver a heavier, punkier version of modern grunge with huge-sounding drums, and over-the-top heavy, layered guitars. Lyrically, vocalist/guitarist Scott Budgie says it helps him to think of the most distressed or agitated he’s ever felt in his life and channels those feelings of utter frustration, and confusion into his writing. There’s often some absurdity in there too as he thinks laughing at things that are too terrible to face is a coping mechanism for a lot of people. Artistically, the album covers a lot of different, but related themes. In Budgie’s mind, it’s a concept album, but it’s admittedly the most incoherent concept album of all time. It’s a deep dive into his own psyche, unturning all the different stones that maybe should have been left alone, all the while worrying about being too self-indulgent in the process. He goes on to comment on the release:

“We are really excited to finally get this album in people’s hands. There have been terrible periods of development hell and sessions of re-tracking the same parts over and over trying to get the vibe just right. It’s been a long, and at times aggravating process to get it to where we’re truly happy with it. We’re all perfectionists, especially Jeremy, who acted like the in-band producer throughout most of the process. I feel as though we created something innovative and contemporary while still honouring our heroes from the ‘90s alternative rock and ‘80s punk scenes. We’re having our cake and eating it too.”

Hardball is comprised of former Poles frontman and Vancouver local Scott Budgie, as well as Okanagan residents, drummer Jeremy Head also of The Motion Picture, and bassist Jamie Black. The album is a joint production between recording engineer Matt Roach of Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC (Baptists, Misery Signals, Comeback Kid) and mix engineer Felix Fung of Little Red Sounds in New Westminster, BC (Needles//Pins, Girlfriends and Boyfriends, Mode Moderne). Every Song was mixed by Felix Fung at Little Red Sounds, except for track 9. I/O, which was mixed by Jeff Black at Black Note Productions.

The self-titled album was released on July 21st, 2023 on all major streaming platforms via Distrokid, as a digital download through Bandcamp, and directly from the band on 12” LP, and compact disc. It is recommended for fans of Hüsker Dü, Flipper, and The Melvins.

Track Listing:
1. Just A Tree (3:55)
2. Worried As Shit (2:21)
3. NRA (2:33)
4. In The Mail (4:16)
5. Me And You (2:47)
6. Chili (5:55)
7. Talk To Me (5:25)

“Punishingly heavy and powerful, the band members go absolutely musically berserk on this one, throwing everything they’ve got against the wall, with the song’s intensity matching the weight of its message. Gun control is an issue we hear about in the news virtually every day. HARDBALL have stepped up to the plate here with a representation of the anger many of us feel about these societal challenges.” – V13

“Vancouver’s Hardball are sharing their self-titled full-length, which will take you through the grunge journey of dirty riffs and speedy shredding.” – New Noise Magzine

“The more I listen to this album the more I fall in love with it. I was a huge Nirvana fan in my youth and this scratches that itch and then some. It has elements of all three of their albums whole also bringing plenty of their own sound and creativity to things. There isn’t a bad track on the album and I’d recommend it to anyone! 9.5/10” – Overtone Magazine

“if you do like Nirvana – then you might have a new CD to purchase!… the opener ”Just A Tree” in true grunge mode. If you on the other hand take ”Me And you” we’re in for more of a party hard rocker with a slight punk vibe. Still some grunge in it, maybe mainly for the lead vocal of Scott Budgie who sounds very much like Kurt Cobain at times. This band is furthermore more interesting to listen to, musically, compared to Nirvana. Hear the hard-working guitar playing in ”Worried As Shit” for example. Same in the quite grungy ”Talk To Me” with good variation between intense and softer parts, plus nice riffing guitars. All in all, yes: quite grunge oriented but still more than that. Well worth checking out if you’re into this type of music.” – Melodic.net

“HARDBALL is a trio from Vancouver that tries to revive this period through realistic, harsh songs and a thick and hard sound. Their first album is without doubt the most beautiful tribute to the nineties scene that we have been able to listen to for a very long time” – Metal News Fr

“HARDBALL brings to their music, a claw, a rather distressed and tortured atmosphere. And then around the compositions, something struck me: the emotion. It is palpable all the way, feels right away, because it feels like Scott is literally living this music. Any grunge or nostalgic fan of this era should have an ear, because this album is inspired.” – Olivier No Limit – Soil Chronicles

“The riffs are sharp, the bass pumps the blood to the most inaccessible parts of the body and the drumming is truly outstanding. Above all, Hardball brings a sound that sounds quite melancholic and – typically grunge – is an indictment for a lot of things in the world that are firmly out of whack. Whether there is still an audience waiting for a grunge band, we cannot say for sure, although we assume that good music always finds a way. And to be honest, we are pleasantly surprised by this debut album.” – Musika

BLACK PESTILENCE Announces Western Canadian Tour Dates w/ Citizen Rage (AB, SK, MB)

New Music Video “The Devil’s Connection”

New Album “Chaotic Wisdom” Out September 2023

Calgary’s Black Pestilence announces they will be hitting the road this coming September for tour dates with Citizen Rage. The Western Canadian tour will kick off with a hometown show on September 15th at Dickens and see the two bands pillage across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, where they will wrap up the eight-date tour in Winnipeg, MB on September 23rd (dates listed below)

Black Pestilence will be on tour supporting their seventh full-length album “Chaotic Wisdom” being unleashed on September 8th.

Conjured by bassist/vocalist Valax, Black Pestilence was founded in 2008, initially as a one-man studio project that would evolve into a three-piece band and has remained in that form. To date, they have offered an impressive discography, six full-length albums, and two EPs, and now in 2023, their next studio release “Chaotic Wisdom” further expands on lyrical themes including LaVeyan Satanism, current events, social issues, and the glorification of the epicurean lifestyle.

The first single off the album, “The Devil’s Connection” is now out accompanied by a music video, which can be seen and heard below. Valax shares his thoughts on the track:

“The Devil’s Connection addresses the advantages of having an open mind. As esoteric as some scenarios might be, it will allow one to adapt to any situation. ”

Watch and listen to their music video for “The Devil’s Connection” at https://youtu.be/bhEBrCdP2ao

On the band’s new album “Chaotic Wisdom”, Black Pestilence sounds a bit darker and more analog. According to Valax, fans will get the same infectious sound this band is known for but with a different style of production. For example, they used various different mic techniques for recording the guitars, which added a very different overall sound. Each member of the trio spent more time recording their parts, which results in a much better performance than its predecessor.

Black Pestilence started out as very chaotic black metal with small hints of punk rock and lots of noise. After, it slowly evolved into a punk rock structure with black metal vocals. Now it is much more catchy with shorter song lengths. Their chaotic black metal ’n’ roll is recommended for fans of Midnight, Toxic Holocaust, and Impaled Nazarene.

“Chaotic Wisdom” is due out on September 8, 2023, and available for pre-order at https://blackpestilence.bandcamp.com.
