Combining the anthemic melodies of traditional and power metal, the precise, aggressive attack of thrash, and twists of dark intensity borrowed from second-wave black metal, Jersey, USA’s Mindrazer plays a style as familiar as it is fresh. Their debut album, “A Thing of Nightmares” (Produced by Kevin Antreassian – The Dillinger Escape Plan) was released this past October via the label Misanthropic Records and to demonstrate it to new fans who have yet to discover them, they have a new lyric video for their battle-ready track “Crusader”.
It’s a frenetic epic with an infectious riff along with constant twists and turns that paint the picture of riding into battle to fight on a blood-covered, snowy battlefield in medieval Finland. Nick DeFuria (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Classical Guitar, Additional Percussion) and Brian Weissman (Drums, Percussion, Harsh Vocals) recorded an actual sword fight live in the studio for the song. They brought in swords they got at a Renaissance fair and spent an hour screaming and bashing them together to make layers and layers of a battle sound effect. They explain the track in further detail:
“Crusader is the epic orgasm of the album. Telling the seldom-told tale of the Crusade of Finland, this song is a whirlwind of technical riffs, melodies, and epic proportions. Blazing guitar harmonies, machine gun lyrics, and a drum solo bring this album to its peak. It covers three key signatures and changes time signatures twice and it even features a real sword fight recorded by the band for this song. Another goosebumps moment for sure if there ever was one, This brings the record to its conclusion with a bang.”

Mindrazer‘s latest offering promises to be a bold, brutal, and diverse exploration of melodic thrash metal, which even before its official release, was igniting mosh pits at the band’s live shows. Now, with the album’s availability, fans can delve into the depths of these tracks and experience them in all their glory.
The writing for the tracks on the album spans a large period of evolution, which can be heard as one progresses through the album. “Knightfall”, the earliest work, is much more power metal, upbeat, and melodic. “Better Dead”, another early song, is very riff-focused and old-school sounding. “Crusader” and “Suffer In Silence”, the later tracks on the record are great examples of how that power metal vibe never really left but the music got heavier and more technical. Each of the ten tracks offers epic melodies and frenetic dynamics that metalheads will be eager to sink their teeth into.

We tried to make a top-to-bottom-worthy album for the playlist age that still maintained some semblance of cohesion and vibe without becoming stale. “ULTRAPOWER” follows their Juno Award-winning self-released full-length “Play to Win” (2018) released on their label Record Breaking Records and features the band’s latest lineup addition of long-time friend and guitarist John Simon Fallon (The Order of Chaos). For the band’s seventh full-length, they teamed up with producer Josh Schroeder (Lorna Shore, Tallah, King 810), entering the studio this past March. With the band writing material since 2018, “ULTRAPOWER” is a collection of five years of Striker tinkering and exploring new avenues.
“ULTRAPOWER is the Striker’s triumphant return to reality. The reality is that shredding rules and nothing can stand in its way. Prepare to be horrified as England’s Foetal Juice dives into a myriad of sick and twisted topics on their latest release “Grotesque”. This is the ninth instalment in their disgusting and deranged discography that has been swelling like an abscess since 2005. “This song is about the infamous Skid Row Slasher and the Skid Row Stabber, both murderers who roamed the streets for victims. We wanted to make this song our first single to represent our theme of serial killers but also represent our city of Los Angeles in a twisted way of how psychotic L.A. can be.”
Known for their massive and impactful delivery of extreme brutality, Stages of Decomposition fuses heart-splitting blast beats, corpulent riffage, and sickening gutturals to create a destructive performance that channels raw primitive energy from the crowd. Gearing up for their hometown Vancouver album launch show on December 15th at Wise Hall (info), Canadian thrashers Hyperia have teamed up with The Scoville Scoundrels to create the “Deathbringer Hot Sauce” that will be exclusively available at their upcoming shows and tour dates.
“This stuff is seriously hot and insanely tasty. Buy one yourself at any of our upcoming shows!” adds the band.
The hot sauce was created by Hyperia‘s newly recruited drummer Aaron Bell who with his co-worker, both working as concrete truck drivers and penchant for pepper farming decided to launch their hot sauce company “The Scoville Scoundrels”. Bell explains further:
“I grew five plants three years ago with mild success. The next year I saw that AJ had moved into an apartment with a south-facing balcony garden and my gears started turning in his head. The next year AJ and I did five plants, but each plant got three yields and we made about 16 mason jars, then 2023 rolled around, and decided we should go big! We bought around 40 pepper plants with about six different types of peppers, and it was so hard to keep up, in fact, we were just getting warmed up and had a lot more to bottle.
This specific SAUCE for Hyperia, which is only a limited run, but can be duplicated consists of ghost pepper, Trinidad, scorpion, Orange, habanero, Carolina, reaper, local vinegar, garlic, honey, onion, organic papaya, organic pineapple, organic blood, orange, organic, grapefruit, organic, lime, and lemon.”

Get ready to have your face blown off with the latest thrash attack from Canada’s Hyperia. Their third full-length “The Serpent’s Cycle”, was just unleashed on November 17th, and it marks a new era for them boasting some of the most aggressive thrash metal they’ve ever written, complimented with plenty of melodic vocals and guitar work. It consists of everything Hyperia stands for shred, speed, and intricacy and it will definitely catch the attention of musicians and non-musicians alike. Hyperia shares their excitement for the release:
“This is the first album we’ve released that isn’t much of a concept album like our first two. This album deals with different lyrical ideas such as the human condition, philosophy, psychology, partying, and much more. Musically this album is insanely aggressive, technical, and fast. We have some of the fastest songs we’ve ever written on this album and during recording, we were all definitely pushed to, and sometimes past, our limits.”
To Hyperia, “The Serpent’s Cycle” is the pinnacle so far of their creativity and finesse. They’ve taken familiar elements they’ve used before, such as menacing thrash riffs and pretty melodies and by presenting a seamless interaction between each member of the band, their signature sound and furious stage presence is something to be admired.
The eleven-track album is much more polished than its predecessors and continues the same writing process, the majority of the songwriting is done by guitarist Colin Ryley but everyone gives input and transforms the songs into what they are in the end. Following up their single “Jewels of the Maw” unleashed this past July just before their Western Canadian tour, Grande Prairie, Canada’s Devolver is unveiling their new track “New Blood”, which will be also featured on their forthcoming sophomore album produced with Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Deicide, Devildriver, Whitechapel).
For this new music video, the band wanted to do something fun and pay homage to one of the greatest musical video games “Guitar Hero”. The band explains further.
“We had someone make the Guitar Hero charts for New Blood and Jewels Of The Maw, so if you play Clone Hero on PC you can download and play our songs! About the song, it’s an amalgamation of riffs written in a single sitting whilst Devin was sitting on a staircase bullshitting with Bevin. It was quickly developed into a skeleton structure at which point Bevin wrote drums for the song. After a tweak to the chorus, the song was finished until lyrics were added and a solo was added after the first chorus per Mark Lewis’ suggestion. This song doesn’t sit down at all and goes right until it ends. With chugging riffs, interesting melodies, ripping solos, and a catchy yet memorable chorus, we feel “New Blood” is putting our best foot forward.”

Melding a particular brand of metal, Devolver can be described as “Gothenburg worship meets NWOAHM”. Last in Time is a project that was formed in 2021 as a studio band, intending to record original songs in the melodic and classic rock/AOR genre. Leading the project is Massimo Marchetti, the songwriter, producer, and arranger of the group’s songs.
The project has a diverse lineup (listed below), as it was managed as an All-star band, to ensure that each song had the right artistic touch. The ability to have multiple voices, including a female voice, greatly expanded the compositional proposal of the songs, allowing for a range of genres and nuances.
However, the group’s sound, while diverse, remains anchored to a common thread, which is a passion for classic rock in its various forms. The presence of experienced and motivated musicians made the album recording process a wonderful journey, which will continue with live sessions and the start of a true project focused on recording more albums in the future.

About: Nova Spei is a francophone progressive metal band that was formed in 2012 by Dany Soucy (guitar) (Dook, Legion) and in 2014 Nicolas Dumais (bass) and Dany Duplessis (vocals) joined the lineup. Stéphane Filion (guitar) joined the band in August 2018 while Julien De Carufel (drums) arrived in August 2021. The band’s second album, “Sequentis” (released November 2021), was named in the top 10 of several media for the year 2021 and was nominated for Metal Album of the Year at the Alternative Music Gala Independent of Quebec (GAMIQ) for 2022.
On “Sequentis”, a groovy undertone meets progressive, catchy riffs, compiled with aggressive vocals belting out the French lyrics. It’s accessible, but edgy enough to suit a discerning metalhead.
