““Hindsight” embraces the eccentricities of the genre (prog) without getting too caught up in sludge or showmanship. It’s a melodic track that blends, blurs, and bristles, mourning the ever-flowing march of time with a clear-eyed sense of what prog needs to matter now.” – Georgia Straight – Van Jams: New Vancouver music from June 2025

FUN FACTS:
1) The band was started just to enter a Battle of the Bands competition
2) The first show we drew a considerable crowd by just the demos on our Myspace.
3) We played that first show with three guitarists and two vocalists on a stage that could barely fit the drums
4) We had a fan from Belgium, travelling to Vancouver for a trip, saw a poster for a show, and ran to see us that night. Entering after our second song and running right to the front and headbanging for the entire set. Afterwards, we thanked him, but he barely spoke any English, and he got a shirt and left with a smile on his face.
5) We encouraged a local bar to put on live music and became the house band for a few weeks, and their booze sales skyrocketed, and they thanked us with a tray full of 12 vodka shots right before our set.
6) one night we had someone breakdancing in the crowd and our singer Jonny (used to be a hiphop rapper), jumped from the stage and they had a whole breakdancing battle in the middle of a mosh pit.
7) Our songs were recorded in an old studio where Nickelback originally did their demos.

Brewed in a basement suite fueled by the lust for bringing their hometown of Vancouver, BC, something it’s never heard of before, the members of progressive collective Moniker, whom all met as students while attending Audio Engineering school, returns with its next taste of new music, “Hindsight” to follow single ”From The Grave” released March 31st of this year and their first self-titled full-length unleashed back in 2021.
“You normally had either brutal death metal or indie rock. Bringing melodic progressive metal to this city was our goal, and we are back to finish it,” adds the band.
Before the digital single for “Hindsight” is officially available on June 6th, 2025, on all platforms, the progressive quintet is unveiling its music video that can be viewed below.
The band comments on the track:
“To those who know us, it will be just as everyone expects, for those who don’t know us, prepare for the unexpected. This single gives a balance between clean melodies and delay-saturated guitar licks, all the way to soul-crushing riffs with gut-wrenching screams. Time flows on and on, whether we want it to or not. Our vision may be clouded, but hindsight is 20/20.”
With its melodic sense, progressive and sizzling heavy riffs, and soaring vocals, Moniker is recommended for fans of Tool, Deftones, Trivium, Leprous, and Killswitch Engage.
