JON OF MARS Releases Otherworldly Playthrough Video For “A Respite!” Off “Songs from Nowhere” (Holcomb Records)

Hailing from the red planet, a mysterious creature crawls forth from the farthest depths of the earth to observe the denizens of Earth to decide their ultimate fate, drawn by the curious nuance of human life he seeks to understand the human race, either to help them find salvation or destruction in their greatest and most universal creation: Music. So begins the tale of Jon of Mars, an alien who shares his perspective on Earth in creative ways, set to heavy music. The debut tale of Jon of Mars “Songs from Nowhere” was released in April and now they present a playthrough video for the track “A Respite!”. Vocalist and guitarist Barrett Holcomb explains the story behind the track:

“In “A Respite!” the alien has accessed the internet and is now experiencing internet culture for the first time and all of the worst things that people become on the internet. This was the song that started the band, it was the first part of the project Jordan approached me with, it was finished in 4 weeks’ time and really got us in the groove for the next few songs. It’s about internet culture and the dangers of not having self-love, or trying to become what you see on the internet.”

The album “Songs from Nowhere” is a fusion of styles and genres, along with concepts and ideas that represent the chaos that the human population has experienced in the last few years, along with the entropy that is the online culture of humanity. Musically, Fear Factory influenced a lot of the grooves and lyrical decisions in the album, GWAR inspired the radical ideas behind the lyrical content, there’s a little bit of rock and metal fusion like DOWN, Korn influenced the fusion of genres and differing songs, and Mudvayne was a big influence on the bass and rhythms. Any fans of nu-metal, modern metal, guitars, drums, and blast beats will find Jon Of Mars intriguing.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal QC – April 20, 2023

JON OF MARS Is Now Streaming Out Of This World Debut Album “Songs from Nowhere” (Holcomb Records)

Jon Of Mars is not only the moniker for an eclectic metal band hailing from Pennsylvania, USA, but it is also the name of the star of their debut concept album that follows our hero through his discoveries on Earth. His perspective is refreshing and humbling while the music is heavy and punishing. “Songs from Nowhere” is suitably being released on April 20th, and will blast listeners into space with smooth rhythms that will occasionally catch people off guard. All of the music on this was written by throwing dice and using number systems found in nature, like the kind that dictate how trees grow branches. The band shares their thoughts on the release:

“None of us can believe how well this turned out, it started as a last-minute change to a final project for Jordan to graduate from Berklee College of Music. “Songs from Nowhere” is exactly that, songs done by talented artists from the middle of nowhere in the Allegheny forest in Pennsylvania, written by metalheads and lifelong music nerds that poured blood, sweat, and literal tears into this project.”

The album features a multitude of songs ranging from the nu-metal to stoner metal genres, with most songs themselves containing elements from multiple genres and styles. The record provides a fresh perspective on the hazards of the internet from the point of view of a millennial and discusses the often overlooked side effects of internet usage and social media.

The mixing and mastering were done for around ten months after the songs were initially recorded, Jordan Karg went over them with a magnifying glass and it resulted in nothing short of perfection. Its mix is nothing less than professional sounding, typically not the case for independent releases with zero budget on such a tight schedule.

“Songs from Nowhere” is immersive and full of energy and comedy. It is recommended for fans of GWAR, Fear Factory, and Korn.

JON OF MARS Has A Close Encounter Of The Green Kind In “Mr. Blue”

New Album “Songs from Nowhere” (Holcomb Records) Out April 2023

With a penchant for storytelling and odd time signatures, the boys behind Jon Of Mars bring their concept to life, telling tales of Earth through the eyes of an alien. They have been working hard over the pandemic on their debut album “Songs from Nowhere” and now, with gusto, are excited to be bringing it to the ears of all the earthlings. The third single “Mr. Blue” is now being presented in the form of a lyric video and recounts the alien’s adventure with marijuana. Vocalist and guitarist Barrett Holcomb gives more details:

“The alien meets a kind stranger that introduces him to weed via a bong named Mister Blue, here the alien learns that there are ways to mitigate his newfound anxiety by smoking when he also realizes the power of human connection. My neighbor Robbie has a blue bong that we used to hang out and hit, and one day I decided that I wanted to write a song about it. The song is slower and more sludge metal than any others on the album, and it was inspired by bands like DOWN and Windhand, it’s meant to be a nice song to groove along with and relax because that’s what Robbie and I do best.”

Punchy and groovy, the group formed out of a collaboration from a college final project that Jordan Karg was working on. The idea for Jon of Mars came from Holcomb’s middle name coupled with the feeling that they don’t belong in normal human society, so they chose to write from the perspective of an alien.

“Songs From Nowhere” offers seven humorous, thought-provoking, technical progressive metal tracks that will entertain and challenge listeners. It is suitable for anyone who enjoys creative and off-beat writing especially fans of Down, Mudvayne, and GWAR.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal QC – March 21, 2023

JON OF MARS Offers A New Perspective About The Mess Of Politics In “Misinformed Nation” Off “Songs from Nowhere” (Holcomb Records) Out April 2023

Hailing from the red planet, a mysterious creature crawls forth from the farthest depths of the earth to observe the denizens of Earth to decide their ultimate fate, drawn by the curious nuance of human life he seeks to understand the human race… either to help them find salvation or destruction in their greatest and most universal creation: Music. That creature is Jon of Mars and he is the hero in this grandiose space epic that combines odd time signatures, crunchy riffs, and radical lyrics telling of Earth through an alien’s eyes. The second single off the upcoming debut album “Songs from Nowhere” is “Misinformed Nation” in which our hero uncovers the state of online politics. Vocalist and guitarist Barrett Holcomb explains:

“This is a song about the absolutely ridiculous state of American politics during the last six years and the COVID pandemic and how the internet made things so fucking bad. We decided to do a fusion song with funk as the roots. I rolled dice to decide time signatures and the BPM, so really the universe decided how this song was going to sound!”

The exhilaration and rationality of online politics isnät the only thing that this alien experiences over the course of the album, he also encounters vanity, jealousy, cannabis, and tragedy which he dictates alongside groovy prog metal.

Strange and upbeat Jon of Mars is confident that fans far and wide will love the kickass grooves and find themselves immersed in strange sound spaces. There is something for everyone, especially those who enjoy Korn, Down, and Mudvayne.

JON OF MARS Makes First Contact With “Respite” Off “Songs from Nowhere” (Holcomb Records) Out April 2023

Hailing from the red planet, a mysterious creature crawls forth from the farthest depths of the earth to observe the denizens of Earth to decide their ultimate fate, drawn by the curious nuance of human life he seeks to understand the human race…. either to help them find salvation or destruction in their greatest and most universal creation: Music. Jon Of Mars comes forth with punchy groovy, fusion metal that will entertain metalheads across the planet. They have their debut album “Songs from Nowhere” ready for ears and the single “Respite” is going to draw you in.

As a concept band, the lyrics are from the point of view of an alien trapped in a small town in the USA during the COVID-19 Pandemic. They’re inspired by the strange things and weird behaviors vocalist/guitarist Barrett Holcomb witnessed from his friends and family during that time, personal experiences from the impersonal view of something that doesn’t understand the culture. In the single, the alien has accessed the internet and is now experiencing the internet culture for the first time and all of the worst things that people become on the internet. Holcomb details the importance of the track:

“This was the song that started the band, it was the first part of the project Jordan Karg (drums/keys) approached me with, it was finished in 4 weeks and really got us in the groove for the next few songs. It’s about internet culture and the dangers of not having self-love, or trying to become what you see on the internet.”

The album is set to release on April 20th, 2023 via Holcomb Records, and will blast listeners into space with smooth rhythms that will occasionally catch people off guard. All of the music on this was written by throwing dice and using number systems found in nature, like the kind that dictate how trees grow branches. It is recommended for fans of Fear Factory, Korn, and Down.
