Helion Prime have released their third single and the first music video from the upcoming album “Question Everything” due out October 5th.

“The Gadfly” is based on the Greek philosopher “Socrates”. He was found guilty of “impiety” and “corrupting the young”, sentenced to death, and then required to carry out his own execution by consuming a deadly potion of the poisonous plant hemlock.

The video reflects Socrates’ ultimate decision to honor his conviction and carry out his death by hemlock while his followers and friends stood by having to accept his fate.

It’s been about two years since the band’s sophomore release “Terror of the Cybernetic Space Monster” and Sacramento sci-fi power metallers Helion Prime returns with their third effort and the much shorter title “Question Everything” set for release on Monday, October 5th, 2020 via their label Saibot Reigns.  This is Helion Prime‘s first album with new vocalist Mary Zimmer, who has also accompanied the band on two separate tours of the United States. It also sees the band’s original singer, Heather Michele, returning in a writing capacity and contributing all lyrics and melodies. Heather Michele also along with other former Helion Prime vocalist Sozos Michael and with John Yelland (Judicator/Dire Peril) add their guest vocals on the full length.

The highly anticipated third record is a concept album, with each song revolving around different figures throughout human history that had the courage to question the status quo of their respective worlds/societies, in some cases even dealing with harsh persecution as a result. Those Helion Prime chose to write about-faced prejudice, mockery, ex-communication, and persecution – yet through it all, they held true to their beliefs and ideas. Time would be their greatest ally as their ideas and identities were eventually validated, oftentimes not until after their passing. They serve as an inspiration for all minds to continue thinking outside the box and staying true to themselves.

Jason speaks on the album itself:

“This album has truly been amazing to work on. The idea behind it is something I’ve been holding on to since around the time I started the band. Aside from writing some of what I consider to be Prime’s best work it was a great experience getting to work with Heather again on an album as she once again contributed her talents for the lyrics.”

“Question Everything” was produced by Jason Ashcraft and Alex Nasla. Mixing was done by Chris Collier and mastered by Brett Caldas-Lima along with additional mixing/drum edits/reamping plus writing and performance of keyboard arrangements by Alex Nasla of Gear Gods Studio. Guitar/Bass edits by Michael Goodrich and cover art by Marc Whisnant.

Today Helion Prime releases the second single for their upcoming album “Question Everything” out October 5th, 2020.

The single “Madame Mercury” is based on NASA Mathematician Katherine Johnson. Johnson studied how to use geometry for space travel. She figured out the paths for the spacecraft to orbit (go around) Earth and to land on the Moon. NASA used Johnson’s math, and it worked! NASA sent astronauts into orbit around Earth. Later, her math helped send astronauts to the Moon and back. NASA could not have done these things without Katherine Johnson and her love for math!

Today would have been Johnson’s 102nd birthday had she not passed away earlier this year. There was no better way to release this song than with a video honoring her life’s achievements on her birthday!

Guitarist Jason Ashcraft adds:

“When researching everyone for this album each story was inspiring in their own way, but Katherine’s was one that really spoke to me. I admit I didn’t know much about her before starting this album, but I can confidently say after learning all I did about her she’s definitely a hero of mine. She was an amazing person and I hope this song can in some small way honor everything she’s done.”

Today, the band releases their first single from the album, “The Forbidden Zone”, based on the fictional character Cornelius from the classic sci-fi film “Planet of the Apes.” The lyric video was made by Austin Bentley.

Founder/Songwriter Jason Ashcraft says:

“I have had plans to write a song based on the film Planet of the Apes for some time now. I love films and just needed the right time. The character Cornelius really fits into the theme I was going for with this album. He is the only fictional character to be featured on this album.”

Helion Prime Announce New Album Kickstarter, Reveal Artwork, Track Listing & Concept

Sacramento, CA’s power metal band Helion Prime announce a fundraising campaign for their highly anticipated third studio album “Question Everything” to follow “Terror Of The Cybernetic Space Monster” released in 2018 via AFM Records.

“Question Everything” will be the first album in the Helion Prime catalog to feature current vocalist Mary Zimmer (Voicehacks, ex-Luna Mortis).

This announcement follows the release of a demo version of the song “The Final Theory”, which has appeared on Spotify’s “Heavy Queens” playlist.

Guitarist Jason Ashcraft comments:

“I am so excited to finally announce this album. The concept is something I’ve been holding on to for a long time, and it’s great to finally see it come to life.”

The concept of the album shows each song focusing on a different scientist or figure throughout history. Though they went against the common beliefs of their time and often faced persecution for their ideas, they continued to ask questions and stand up for what they knew to be true. As time would go on, their theories and beliefs would eventually be acknowledged.

California’s HELION PRIME will be venturing across the American Midwest from August 5th – 16th for “The Cybernetic Terror Tour” in support of their sci-fi power metal thriller “Terror Of The Cybernetic Space Monster” released last year via AFM Records.

Kicking off the tour in their hometown of Sacramento, CA, HELION PRIME will be joined by fellow power metallers NOVAREIGN on all show dates including the 3rd annual Mad With Power Fest being hosted in Madison, WI on August 10th with Theocracy, Lords of The Trident, Judicator, and more.

The band comments:

“Helion Prime is thrilled to announce our “The Cybernetic Terror Tour” with special guest Novareign. We have been itchy to get back on the road and we felt a great time would be as we made our way to the Mad With Power Festival in Madison, WI. We are stoked to have our friends Novareign with us and it’s no doubt going to be a great time. This tour is short, but we made the decision not to be on the road too much this year so we could put more focus into writing the third album. So we promise to come back around next year with a new album and many more dates!”

Helion Prime was born from the mind of Jason Ashcraft, who approached vocalist Heather Michele (appears only on the first album) and asked if she would be interested in doing a project with him. The two had been longtime friends, and at the time intended to do nothing more than release a few songs together for fun, as both had musical commitments elsewhere. Soon, however, the two realized they had something good and quickly decided to put out a full album. That album would become the now “Self Titled” release. The two first released the album independently and quickly re-released it through Divebomb records. The band quickly gained the attention of the German label AFM Records who approached them to ink a deal.

Shortly before being approached by AFM Records, Heather Michele left the band in order to focus on her commitments to her other band. So the band found themselves in a bind, being offered a record deal but having no singer. Thankfully, AFM Records believed in them enough to sign them regardless. The band released a single “Remnants of Stars” and did a short DIY tour they called “Saibot’s Rampage Tour” with short term singer Kayla Dixon.

In 2017, the band held open auditions for a new singer – enter Sozos Michael. Many fans were thrown off by the band’s choice bringing on a male vocalist for the up until now female fronted group. At the end of the day, it’s really about who’s right for the part and there is no doubt Sozos can deliver what Helion Prime needs. With the band feeling refreshed, and once again having a strong line up, Helion Prime quickly got to work with their sophomore effort, which was released via AFM Records on August 31, 2018.

The band is excited about the future and is already brainstorming the creative process for the third follow up. There is no slowing down for Helion Prime!

California’s HELION PRIME announce they will be venturing across the American Midwest from August 5th – 16th for “The Cybernetic Terror Tour” in support of their sci-fi power metal thriller “Terror Of The Cybernetic Space Monster” released last year via AFM Records.

Kicking off the tour in their hometown of Sacramento, CA, HELION PRIME will be joined by fellow power metallers NOVAREIGN on all show dates including the 3rd annualMad With Power Fest being hosted in Madison, WI on August 10th with Theocracy, Lords of The Trident, Judicator, and more.

The band comments:

“Helion Prime is thrilled to announce our “The Cybernetic Terror Tour” with special guest Novareign. We have been itchy to get back on the road and we felt a great time would be as we made our way to the Mad With Power Festival in Madison, WI. We are stoked to have our friends Novareign with us and it’s no doubt going to be a great time. This tour is short, but we made the decision not to be on the road too much this year so we could put more focus into writing the third album. So we promise to come back around next year with a new album and many more dates!”

Helion Prime will once again be joined by Mary Zimmer (Luna Mortis/VoiceHacks). We know many have hoped to catch a show with Sozos, but those who saw us on the Unleash The Archers tour can confirm Mary does a wonderful job handling these songs.”

“Terror Of The Cybernetic Space Monster” is Helion Prime’s second album and revolves around sci-fi themes with sweeping solos and powerful vocals. The album was also mixed and mastered at LSD studio by Lasse Lammert (known for his work with bands like Alestorm and Gloryhammer). The American band is sure to impress fans of Unleash the Archers, Iron Maiden and Helloween.

Power metallers Helion Prime have just released a guitar playthrough video of “The Human Condition” off “Terror Of The Cybernetic Space Monster”, which was released in 2018 via AFM Records. Jason Ashcraft and Chad Anderson show off their writing and playing prowess in this video for one of their personal favorite tracks:

“We are excited to release our first guitar playthrough. This video was a lot of fun to make and we promise Jason is having a good time despite looking bored at times. The Human Condition is one of our personal favorite tracks off the new album and was actually the first song we finished 100% for the album. It’s packed with a lot of killer riffs and just right for a playthrough video.”
