Prepare to have your senses shattered as Canada’s Display Of Decay unveils the chaos and power that can only be found in death metal in their sixth album “Vitriol”, now available as of October 20th from Gore House Productions.

The eight tracks on “Vitriol” will take listeners through distorted riffs colliding with thunderous percussion, creating a maelstrom of sound that leaves no room for compromise. The lyrical content covers a variety of topics ranging from pop culture references like Diablo & Mass Effect to darker undertones of acts of senseless violence and brutality. The band explains more:

“At long last, we are excited to finally announce our long-awaited new record and 6th installment into the discography, Vitriol! This album took a lot of the technical elements of ‘Art in Mutilation’ and blended them with the classic ‘DOD’ style of ‘bang your head, groovy riffs.’ I believe this album follows the trajectory our style has grown over the years, whilst still paying homage to the first few records of our discography.”

“Vitriol” was mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and assistant mix engineer Dominic Grimard. The cover art was done by Caelan Stokkermans with graphic design by Logan Wilson. The writing process consists of Sean Watson (Guitar – Vocals) and Brandon Siefert (Bass) slinging riffs back and forth, and getting a rough layout done to bring to the table. With the return of Logan Wilson halfway through the process, it’s become more of a unified process. ‘Familial Feast’ as an example, was written while they were tracking the record, and after they ended up scrapping a tune halfway through the recording process, this one came together extremely well.

“Vitriol” was born of rage and spite fueled further by the chaos and uncertainty felt worldwide over the last few years. It is recommended for fans of Pantera, Morbid Angel, and Cannibal Corpse.

“Vitriol” will be available on October 20, 2023, via Gore House Productions and is available on Vinyl, CD, and Digital at https://orcd.co/vitriol

Display of Decay’s “Legion of Doom” is a death metal look at the menacing death knights found in World Of Warcraft. Step into the shadows of musical intensity and bask in bloody riffs, frosty bass lines, and unholy vocals. “Legion of Doom” comes off the band’s sixth album “Vitriol”, which is packed full of technical and dark artistry. The band details the writing process:

“Musically, this song was rewritten a number of times. I can remember a few minutes before a writing session, Brandon was on his way over and I was sitting there strumming along to warm up when I plucked the notes that would eventually become the chorus, and I thought to myself ‘’did I just write the best riff ever?!” Of course, I didn’t, but it’s a pretty damn great riff. This song is definitely more ‘progressive’ than the other ones perhaps, I feel there’s a definite nod to ‘Death’ in this one, but nonetheless, it’s about slaying monsters in Azeroth. FOR THE HORDE.”

Since 2007, Display of Decay has been writing death metal songs about serial killers, school shootings, and otherwise brutal methods of dying. Deep down though, they’re just a bunch of nerds who love playing heavy music and this song really captures that. There are other songs on the album that also pay homage to nerdy endeavors such as Mass Effect and Diablo while being wrapped up in groovy guitar work and ever-increasing technicality that shows how far the band has come over the years.

Get ready to experience the visceral and unapologetic realm of death metal and death knights with “Legion of Doom” recommended for fans of Immolation, Pantera, and Morbid Angel.

Prepare to be immersed in a world of sonic extremity with Edmonton, Canada’s death metal titans, and mega nerds, Display Of Decay, and their fourth album “Vitriol” hitting the shelves later this year. They have released a single “The Butcher” already and now the second “Harbinger” will continue to engulf listeners in thunderous drums, ferocious guitars, guttural vocals, and gory and nerdy lyrics. The band shares what’s in store:

“Harbinger is definitely one of the most technically challenging songs, if not the MOST technically challenging on the record. A frenzy from start to finish, this track features a wide range of dynamics stretching from sweep picking, and octaves, to full-on chaos! Lyrically, it’s entirely based on Mass Effect and the Reaper invasion, because as previously mentioned, nerds.”

Since forming in 2007, right out of high school, Display of Decay has stayed true to their groovy old-school death metal sound as a base and increasing intensity, technicality, and quality as they’ve gone on. In “Vitriol” they show off faster riffs, more experimentation, and varied lyrical themes. Every song on the album is so unique that it feels like a new experience every single track. The band owes this to never going into the writing process under the expectation of writing something a certain way or having a prescribed formula. The eight songs flow cohesively from track to track while each has its own special added elements.

The lyrical content on “Vitriol” covers a variety of topics ranging from pop culture references like Diablo & Mass Effect to darker undertones of the mainstream media’s obsession with school shootings and other acts of senseless violence that are continuously looped for ratings evidently posing a risk of reproduction. It is recommended for fans of Dying Fetus, Immolation, and Pantera.

Watch and listen to the guitar playthrough for “Harbinger” via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

““Created To Kill” is a monster itself — a blazing onslaught of thrashing death with a raw, old-school tone, loaded with riff savagery and anchored by a nimble bass line and a hard-hitting drum attack. The song’s dynamic tempos are sure to be gasoline for the mosh pit, and the punchy grooves in the music should get heads moving vigorously as well. On top of all that death metal goodness, the rapid-fire vocals are as bestial as this kind of instrumental ferocity demands.” – No Clean Singing (2015 – Dust of Existence)

========================================================================

The album as a whole:

‘Vitriol,’ was born of rage and spite fueled further by the chaos and uncertainty felt worldwide over the last few years.

The lyrical content covers a variety of topics ranging from pop culture references like Diablo & Mass Effect to darker undertones of the mainstream media’s obsession with school shootings and other acts of senseless violence that are continuously looped for ratings evidently posing a risk of reproduction.

Track By Track:

Malicious Motorcide: Malicious is a wild ride from start to finish. It’s a song about driving over hordes of people in a fit of rage, the elevation in tempo and chaos felt in the song flow together perfectly with the lyrical content which was based around real events a member of our band was nearly a victim of.

The Butcher: The Butcher to me is the most dynamic song on the record. Its tempo fluctuates so much throughout to build up with the story behind the song. Initially, it started out as someone who was taken hostage and held against their will, soon to be burned alive, but we couldn’t help but draw reference to Diablo’s notorious Butcher who’s been featured in several of their games. The sheer heaviness of that intro and the catchiness of the chorus are guaranteed to turn heads and blow minds.

Legion of Doom: We have songs about serial killers, school shootings, and otherwise brutal methods of dying. Deep down, we’re just a bunch of nerds who love playing heavy music and this song really captures that. We wrote this one about the ‘Death Knight’ in World of Warcraft, because it’s badass and because we can. Musically, this song was rewritten a number of times. I can remember a few minutes before a writing session, Brandon was on his way over and I was sitting there strumming along to warm up when I plucked the notes that would eventually become the chorus, and I thought to myself did I just write the best riff ever?!” Of course, I didn’t, but it’s a pretty damn great riff. This song is definitely more ‘progressive’ than the other ones perhaps, I feel there’s a definite nod to ‘Death’ in this one, but nonetheless, it’s about slaying monsters in Azeroth. FOR THE HORDE.

Familial Feast: This was the last and most unexpected song on the record. We had another tune initially on the record we ended up scrapping late as we felt it wasn’t up to par, but we had been jamming even newer stuff between recording sessions. Familial Feast just fell into place seamlessly and unexpectedly became one of our favorite tracks to play so it was a no-brainer to throw it on the record.

The lyrical content was written about Katherine Knight, an Australian-born murderer who in the early 2000’s killed and cooked her spouse with the intent of feeding him to his children. It’s a pretty wild case that never seemed to garner as much notoriety as one would expect with such gruesome details.

Harbinger: Harbinger is definitely one of the most technically challenging songs, if not the MOST technically challenging on the record. A frenzy from start to finish, this track features a wide range of dynamics stretching from sweep picking, and octaves, to full-on chaos!

Lyrically, it’s entirely based on Mass Effect and the Reaper invasion, because as previously mentioned, nerds.

Hot Lead Vengeance:  This track was written right as we came back from the ‘Decimate the West’ tour in 2019. It was based on the growing number of senseless shootings going on around the world at the time. Every time you turned on the TV, every news network was covering a mass shooting somewhere, or some other act of senseless violence. It’s definitely an experience to sit and listen through and certainly not for the faint of heart.

Vitriol: The name of the track says it all. The lyrical content in this tune was written in a time of extreme rage and with that, the music just kind of followed. To me, it’s got the most powerful chorus of the entire record lyrically and musically because it’s simple yet effective.

Display of Decay has been a cornerstone of the underground Canadian death metal scene for over a decade, having released five recordings (two eps and 3 albums) in that time, touring extensively, and making appearances at several festivals in Canada and the US. They have once again returned to the studio, to dish out another hefty serving of fast riffs, groovy bass lines, and thunderous gutturals as their fourth full-length “Vitriol” (Mixed & Mastered by Christian Donaldson of Cryptopsy) to be released in October of this year. While fans wait to sink their teeth into what promises to be a juicy offering of death metal, they can whet their appetites with the single “The Butcher”. The band shares their thoughts on the song and its nerdy ties:

“The Butcher is the most dynamic song on the record. Its tempo fluctuates so much throughout to build up with the story behind the song. Initially, it started out as someone who was taken hostage and held against their will, soon to be burned alive, but we couldn’t help but draw reference to Diablo’s notorious Butcher who’s been featured in several of their games. The sheer heaviness of that intro and the catchiness of the chorus is guaranteed to turn heads and blow minds.”

The album “Vitriol” was born of rage and spite fueled further by the chaos and uncertainty felt worldwide over the last few years. The lyrical content covers a variety of topics ranging from pop culture references like Diablo & Mass Effect to darker undertones of the mainstream media’s obsession with school shootings and other acts of senseless violence that are continuously looped for ratings evidently posing a risk of reproduction. Each song is delivered with precision and relentless brutality, a cumulation of both new-school and old-school American death metal.

Line up for slaughter, “The Butcher” lyric video is out now, and “Vitriol” will arrive on October 20, 20th via Gore House Productions. It is recommended for fans of Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and Immolation.

Edmonton death metallers Display of Decay announce they will perform their only hometown show of the year since the Covid pandemic closed city establishments for extreme live music.

During the pandemic, the band entertained fans with their old school brutality with live streams, played their only live show of 2020 at Decimate MetalFest during December along with them performing their one and only outdoor live event for 2021 at Alberta’s decibel-breaking metal fest Loud As Hell this past August.

On December 3rd, at Shakers Roadhouse in Edmonton, AB alongside Ashes of Yggdrasil, Naitaka, and Ravage Red, Display of Decay will showcase not only their latest album “Art In Mutilation” (2018) (Gore House Productions), but delight and punish their audience with an onslaught of new blast beats and evil gutturals from their yet to be titled forthcoming 2022 album.

Eager to melt faces and shake crowds with their personal blend of old school death metal in the veins of Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and Decapitated, the band adds:

“Bringing talent from all over western Canada, as well as injecting our own “special touches”, we want this show to be one of the most memorable events of the year for lovers of heavy music.”

Event details can be found at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/events/2156367437839217/

Destroying stages and performing at festivals for over a decade, Display of Decay are veterans of the Canadian death metal scene. They have supported artists such as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, The Faceless, Origin, Beyond Creation, Disciples of Power, Archspire and Into Eternity along with multiple tours across the USA and Western Canada plus performances on festivals Las Vegas DeathFest, Loud As Hell, Slaughterfest, Armstrong MetalFest, and Farmageddon Open Air. After five well-received indie releases, Display of Decay will be unleashing a new album in 2022.
