Heavy rock titans Sandveiss, from Quebec City, Canada, are proud to announce the release of their highly anticipated new album “Standing in the Fire”, which comes out on October 11th, 2024. This new release returns with their most ambitious and diverse album to date, it features eight powerful tracks that showcase the band’s evolution and musical prowess. The band comments on the album:

“Five years after the release of our sophomore album “Saboteur”, we are stoked to finally present our new offering, “Standing in the Fire”. Musically, it showcases diversity but also, we hope, homogeneity and coherence. We draw from a wide range of influences, from metal to stoner rock, from prog to punk rock. While some are more apparent than others, they all play a key role in shaping our sound.”

The production of “Standing in the Fire” has a modern feel while still incorporating vintage sounds and instruments, and the mix by Karl Daniel Lidén (Greenleaf, Dozer, The Ocean Collective) adds depth, texture, and power to the album. Lyrically, the songs were mostly written in response to, or sometimes as a grim reflection on, human and social issues, including politics and environmental problems.

The band cites that they’ve pushed their boundaries on all sides. The heavy is heavier, the prog is proggier, and the catchy is catchier. They’ve allowed themselves to explore new territories while staying true to their core sound. They are recommended for fans of The Sword, Dozer, and Baroness.

Listen to the album stream premiere for “Standing in the Fire” via DoomedandStoned HERE.

“Standing In The Fire is easily one of the most impressive heavy-stoner rock albums this year and I bet this band could easily grow huge if given the chance to perform to larger crowds supporting some of the big guns.” – Velvet Thunder UK

“Standing In The Fire has a whole bunch of memorable songs that will keep you humming them all day as well as air guitaring their riffs, because there are plenty of those to go around too… The new Sandveiss record was exactly what I wanted as a follow up to their excellent last one. You get more of the heavy, more of the melody, their band’s excellent playing, and songwriting ability that makes these songs last. Standing In The Fire is another excellent record by an excellent band who is in their prime right now. 9/10” – Musipedia of Metal

“Quebec City’s Sandveiss has a reputation for balancing heavy and melodic, but Standing in the Fire takes that to a whole new level. This isn’t just another rock album—it’s a journey. A sonic exploration where the band pushes their limits while still holding onto that raw, gritty essence that got them here in the first place. From the moment you press play, you’re in for a ride. – Heavy Stoned

“What’s impressive about Standing in the Fire is how it balances these emotional highs and lows without losing its groove. Sandveiss knows how to guide you through a variety of moods, but everything fits, like chapters of the same gritty, doom-laden novel. Heavy riffs, killer solos, and a lot of heart—there’s a lot here for fans of Black Sabbath, Mastodon, and The Sword. You’ll get that familiar stoner rock vibe, but there’s something deeper, something more refined. In short, heavy, melodic, unpredictable—and totally worth the trip.” – Heavy Stoned

“Heavy rockers’ Sandveiss have just launched a pair of singles “I’ll Be Rising” & “No Love Here” ahead of their new album “Standing In The Fire” which is slated for an Oct. 11th release. The singles are both fantastic with elements of prog and heavy rock that make for two very interesting and impressive tracks. Outstanding vocals, unusual time signatures, melodic and hook driven…yeah it’s right up our alley.” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll

“This track (Standing in the Fire) delivers an intense and reflective exploration of inner turmoil and societal disillusionment. The lyrics capture the struggle between seeking higher meaning and being trapped in confusion, ignorance, and denial. With evocative lines like “one foot in the grave” and “anger consumed heart,” it speaks to the emotional weight of confronting fears and beliefs. The recurring chorus heightens the feeling of frustration, making it a powerful commentary on the fight for clarity in a chaotic world. To close, this single and forthcoming album won’t gather dust in any collection, and will keep heads bouncing and feet tapping from sofa to stage. So why not clear a space, and give Sandveiss a try for 2024. Star Rating – 10/10” – Star Gazer Music Magazine

“As a successor to their KILLER previous album, Scream Queen, Saboteur holds its own and shows growth from the band, both in writing and musicianship. Saboteur is not meant to be played at lower decibels.” – Doom Charts

“Sur ce nouvel album, le son propre et puissant sert à merveille des riffs ciselés et des mélodies accrocheuses. Chaque titre est une petite pépite de plaisir musical sertie dans une production jamais tape à l’œil, où les effets discrets relèvent la sauce.” – Weirdsound

“Sometimes you hear something, and it hits you so hard it automatically becomes incredibly special to you. That has been my experience with Saboteur and Sandveiss.” – Metal Nation

0 FREYA Drummer Ethan Henry Unveils His Horror Movie SEVERANCE MOUNTAIN Just in Time For Halloween Binge Watching!

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 9, 2024

FREYA Drummer Ethan Henry Unveils His Horror Movie SEVERANCE MOUNTAIN Just in Time For Halloween Binge Watching!

“The Scariest Monsters Are The Human Kind”

Hailing from Syracuse, NY, veteran hardcore/metal band FREYA‘s drummer Ethan Henry is unleashing his inner horror fan by inviting fans to view his haunting independent movie “Severance Mountain”, which he directed, wrote, produced, edited, and composed music for with his team at Ignorant Tourist Productions.

In the movie’s premise, deep in the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York, Sarah (Nicole Morgan) and Toby (Cade Guillory) plan to reconnect on a remote camping trip following the tragic loss of Toby’s girlfriend. It doesn’t take long for Sarah to realize something is off and her long-awaited getaway turns into a vacation from hell. Meanwhile, Local police Sergeant “Sarge” (Kim Scharff Snyder) discovers a potential threat to all who enter the parks and Desperately pleads to her superiors to take action and warn the public of this “threat”. Meanwhile, With each step she takes deeper into the forest, Sarah finds herself in the ultimate struggle to survive against the threats of SEVERANCE MOUNTAIN.

Ethan Henry comments:

“SEVERANCE MOUNTAIN came to life shortly after the pandemic. With all the restrictions and difficulties trying to make a film during that time, we wanted to get back at it but needed to keep our budget small and keep our cast and crew down to a minimum. Thanks to John Sovi II at Sovs Media for sparking the idea, I developed the concept for Severance Mountain with our restrictions in mind. I ended up rewriting the working script with Melissa Godin Hunt and started planning to film our independent, ultra-low-budget horror film. Even though our budget was small and it seemed near impossible to make at times, our determination to complete the film and make something we thought would be gross, familiar, and entertaining finally came to be. If you like indie horror, gore, and practical effects, then SEVERANCE MOUNTAIN is for you.”

The movie trailer for “Severance Mountain” can be viewed at https://youtu.be/yHfGb4XPnUE

SEVERANCE MOUNTAIN was released on September 13, 2024, and is available for streaming and download on Amazon, iTunes, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube, and ROKU.

FREYA recently dropped their newest single “Blood Thirst”. This powerful track showcases the band’s unique blend of hardcore intensity and thrash metal fury, which they have been perfecting for over two decades. The single is a straightforward banger. Drawing inspiration from the hard-hitting, old-school hardcore vibe of bands like Biohazard, the song opens with a memorable riff that immediately grabs the listener’s attention. As the track progresses, Freya seamlessly shifts into a thrash metal assault reminiscent of Slayer, showcasing the band’s ability to blend genres with precision and intensity.

“Blood Thirst” was released on August 23rd, 2024 via Upstate Records and will appeal to both hardcore and metal fans alike, especially those interested in Earth Crisis, Terror, and Hatebreed.

Canada’s Infrared continues its thrash metal onslaught with the release of their video for the track “Then the Earth Goes Black”. This song comes from the recently released full-length “Manifestation”, which came out this past September. Emerging from the vibrant 80s thrash scene, Infrared’s sound is a direct lineage from the genre’s formative years. They comment on the single:

“This is an epic thrash song that teeters back and forth between full onslaught and brooding and haunting vocals. The song talks of the fear of what happens when the nuclear keys are turned after humans are incapable of diplomatic dialog. Oddly enough, the fast opening riff in this song was initially put at the intro of Concuss. Mike said that it was too good to be this short intro for a song and then just disappear, so an entire song was built around it.”

Watch the music video premiere for “Then the Earth Goes Black” via MetalAddicts HERE.

Infrared first hit the Canadian metal scene in 1986 with their demo but shortly after, went on a very long hiatus. In 2016, they reformed and since their reunion, have released a series of impactful albums. “Manifestation” marks a milestone in their career, offering a refined and succinct collection of tracks that distill their thrash metal essence into pure, unadulterated energy.

The straight-to-the-point album features trimmed-down shorter songs and catchy riffs and choruses. It’s still classic Infrared, just straight to the point. It is recommended for fans of Razor, Venom Inc., and Dirkschneider.

“Manifestation” was released on September 6th, and is available for at https://infraredmetal.bandcamp.com (CD and Digital)

“Manifestation, an album that exists as an old-school thrash album in the vein of Testament and Death Angel without sounding entirely and blatantly old-school.” – Decibel Magazine

“Canada’s Infrared are back and with them comes intense thrash metal and it’s an intense album not only because of the music obviously but also because of the difficulties the band had to face to release it the band has already accustomed us to Dynamic thrash metal but here they take it to a whole new and exciting level it’s not immediate the price you have to pay to make a difference but what you get is an album that will win over fans of strong guitars and sharp solos for those who don’t know them yet this will be an excellent entry point into their sound, for those who already know them they might even consider this one of their best moments ever.” – World of Metal – Albums of the Month – September 2024

“Manifestation is like listening to the collected works of Metal Church, Sacred Reich and Flotsam and Jetsam forced through a blender and straight into your ear canals. On the Superb Demon’s Blood – which is quite simply one of the best ‘proper’ thrash tracks I’ve heard in ages – this formula is, in a word, unbeatable… Armin Kamal‘s vocals are superb throughout, and the upfront bass of Mike Forbes – a glorious mix of Dan Lilker and Frank Bello – is a joy to behold. I’ve been a committed thrasher since the early days of the movement and I’m ashamed to say I wasn’t familiar with Infrared – who actually formed in 1985, fer chrissakes – until recently. I’m happy to put that appalling oversight right, now, however, and strongly urge you to do the same if you too have been living in blissful ignorance about this excellent outfit!” – Sentinel Daily

“There’s a hell of a lot of thrash coming out these days and a lot of it is just rehashing the old stuff (this is not a complaint, mind you), but Infrared are one of those few with a very distinctive style that stands out from the crowd. Highly recommended. 4.75/5” – The Metal Crypt

“‘Manifestation’ is a powerhouse album that solidifies INFRARED‘s place in the thrash metal genre. The band’s commitment to delivering high-energy, classic thrash metal with a modern twist is evident in every track. Fans of Slayer, Metallica, and Testament will find this album a worthy addition to their collection. 9/10” – Infrared Magazine

“Heavy, fast, aggressive, but with catchy melodies and some excellent guitar work. Forty-two minutes of superb thrash.” – My Global Mind

“The album sound is driven by good Thrash Metal riffing, cool lead guitar solos, and crushing basslines… Thrash Metal fans will like what “Manifestation” has to offer and will look forward to some exciting live shows of INFRARED. 8/10” – Metal Temple

“If you’re longing for Slayer shows that start later this month, then allow us to suggest that you listen to Canada’s Infrared to tide you over. “Cataclysm” revs itself up with a touch of the epic, but “Temple Of Sin” gets itself into the moshpit good and proper. Thunderous stuff abounds. “Nikko” is heavier, the guitars Slash and burn on “Demon’s Blood” though in a very classic thrash way… “Manifestation” underlines again though, just how many thrash bands there are, but it proves also that Infrared are a cut above most. 8/10” – Maximum Volume Music

0 Canadian Post-Metal ATOMIS Shares New Video “In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts” Off “The Void Box Set” In Memory of Drummer’s Passing

Canadian Post-Metal ATOMIS Shares New Video “In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts” Off “The Void Box Set” In Memory of Drummer’s Passing

Top Left: Taylor Johnson (Guitar), Top Right: Nathan Navetto Drums, Bottom Left: Matthew McLaughlin (Guitar/Vox/Keys), Bottom Right: Bryan Buss (Bass)

In remembrance of their late drummer Nathan Navetto, Calgary, Canada’s progressive post-metal act Atomis released their “The Void Box Set” of their complete discography this past August. The complete collection spans a decade ranging from a high production debut album of previously unheard music to an experimental version of the album – “Nathan’s version” – called “Welcome to the Void”, which includes a remix of the debut album, plus 8 bonus ambient/experimental tracks fully written by Nathan. Closing up the box set is a Live off the Floor demos album of songs Atomis performed live regularly from 2010-2014. These are the songs that the local scene would recognize and songs that sadly never made it to the studio. The band comments on the release:

“This collection is long-awaited and well-deserved. Due to a variety of circumstances, and after many false starts, and the passing of our drummer and bandleader Nathan Navetto in 2020, the album never came out. We still have fans of our first single ‘Maelstrom’ asking about “The Album”, so we’re pleased to now share the entirety of our catalog in the form of a box set. Some finished, some half-baked, and some completely raw and recorded with a single microphone inside a concrete jamspace.”

Today, Atomis shares their latest music video for the track “In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts”, a very percussive, monotonous, and introspective track. The fretless bass slides are hypnotizing as the guitar slowly builds until it breaks into an ambiance, letting the synth take over.

Watch and listen to “In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts” at https://youtu.be/XMLQvejmFQo

Atomis pulls from all aspects of inspiration, be it cinema, poetry, or nature, and tries to make an enveloping experience. The Void Box Set showcases the entirety of Atomis from the drawing board, to a polished album, but in reverse. It is recommended for fans of The Ocean, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Radiohead.

Released on August 30th, 2024, “The Void Box Set” is available at https://atomismusic.bandcamp.com/

What the press has said about them:

“The Void Box Set’ is a tribute to ATOMIS‘ legacy and the creative vision of drummer Nathan Navetto, who passed away in 2020. This collection captures the band’s willingness to push the boundaries of post-rock and metal, blending crushing riffs with serene ambient soundscapes. ‘The Void Box Set’ is a must-have for fans of experimental metal and those seeking a profound musical journey through the void. 8/10” – Infrared Magazine

“The album of the same name “Atomis” with a running time of 38 minutes on just four songs, it’s very impressive. Here we find songs that are purely instrumental and not just suitable for sci-fi films. Let’s take it “12 Chains”, the opener With a very quickly recognizable sound structure, there are booming rhythms here that at the same time give the impression of stopping in one place. The drums still ensure further movement. With mystical tones, mixed with spherical elements, a thoroughly intoxicating track.” – Hellfire Magazin

“The songs are epic and can almost be described as soundscapes, as they incorporate everything from crushing metal riffs to peaceful ambient noise.” – Matt Petti, Beatroute Magazine

“Before the first viewing of the video, Canadian director and film-maker Doug Cook gave an introductory speech about the making of the video and working with Atomis. They created a video that perfectly complimented the band’s music and fans asked to watch it a second time (and then even a third time before the venue closed). Cook has been working with many Calgary metal bands lately, such as Divinity, Orphan Hammer and the Unravelling. He has also worked on some videos that may be a little more well known around the globe including “Breaking the Broken” by Control Denied, “Prolong the Agony” by Morta Skuld and the upcoming video for Death’s “Pull the Plug”.” – Evilg – Metal Sucks

0 Finnish Horror Squad AS I MAY Release New Scary Single “Never Stop Dreaming” Influenced by Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 4, 2024

Finnish Horror Squad AS I MAY Release New Scary Single “Never Stop Dreaming” Influenced by Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series

The Finnish horror squad AS I MAY is back with a killer new single “Never Stop Dreaming”. The song is inspired by the Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series and combines modern low riffs with a little taste of deathcore synths to bring horror chills and atmosphere to haunt your listening experience. If 80- horror movies, down-tuned riffs, and big choruses are something that you’re looking for, this is for you.

The band comments on the track:

“We all are big fans of Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Those were the first real horror movies when we were kids. I think maybe a couple of us were too young to watch those movies and also got nightmares from them, so Freddy has stayed with us all this time.”

“Never Stop Dreaming” was mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek (Sawdust Recordings).

In additional news, As I May had a line change-up in early 2024 when Jani Valhola stepped out from the ranks and was replaced with Jere Koponen.

Lasse comments on Jani’s departure:

“Yeah, it’s sad to do any lineup changes. I have played with Jani for over 2 decades in different bands. Jani has been building his own mixing business for many years and it has got really strong ground now and he has tons of work with it. We have toured in 14 countries and played in many great venues, festivals, etc. together. So he has seen a lot. He has been struggling to find time for all of this. So it’s natural to keep following your dreams and build a bigger business. It’s really hard to try too many things well at the same time. We are all really going to miss him and wish him the best of luck in the future. He says thanks to all of the fans that came to see us live and listened to our music”

Formed in 2016 in Mikkeli, Finland, As I May‘s music is all about combining metal/death-core and vibes from horror movies to create a soundscape they dub HorrorCore. The band is known for big melodies, huge choruses, and hard-hitting riffs. As I May is one of the front-running acts in the new wave of Finnish metal bands being exported. Touring all over Europe, they have made a name for themselves along with over a million streams for their albums ‘Karu’ (2022) (Uprising Records) and ‘My Own Creations’ (2019) (Rock Shots Records, Spiritual Beast “Japan”).

AS I MAY is:
Lasse Hiltunen – vocals, guitars
Jere Koponen – vocals, guitars
Tipi Nokelainen – vocals, bass
Leevi Räsänen – drums

As fans of the famously funny Honest Trailers series (made by the Screen Junkies YouTube channel), Canadian groovy and heavy-hitting death metal outfit INSURRECTION have created their own “honest trailer” for their latest music video “The Gathering” unleashed this past September in support of their new album “Obsolescence” released label Bam & Co. Heavy. The trailer showcases that in addition to delivering heavy riffs and bashing drums to fans, the band is also more than capable of delivering a few laughs, even if it’s at their own expense.

Vocalist Stef Jomphe comments:

“We had a ton of fun shooting the video for “The Gathering” and couldn’t just waste the 3+ hours we had on tape. We’re all fans of YouTube series like “[band] shreds” and, of course, “Honest Trailers” so it just made sense to put this together. Plus Mart’s voice was made for this job.”

Watch the Honest Trailer for Insurrection’s “The Gathering” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qo2m9GBKHZs

The original music video that the trailer is based on can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OloWe37IY04

“Obsolescence” is the band’s first full-length in seven years, and is the fifth studio album that represents a culmination of everything they’ve worked on over the last twenty years, with both familiar (original) faces, as well as fresh blood in the lineup. The music addresses social and political themes through bilingual lyrics in both English and French.

Throughout their existence, INSURRECTION has gained a notable reputation on stage throughout Canada with tours covering coast to coast, including performances at festivals such as Montebello Rockfest, Trois-Rivières Metalfest, and Decimate Metalfest along with sharing the stage with bands like Cannibal Corpse and the Black Dahlia Murder.

The concept of “Obsolescence” is reflected throughout the album, and the band took things a step further by ending the record with a 3-song trilogy called The New Uprising. The trilogy which includes sub-themes of demagogy and elitism, as well as reflections on the death penalty, tells the cryptic story of a robotic uprising that is actually a metaphor for the rise of political extremism in the world.

One easter egg that long-time INSURRECTION fans may notice is that, like many of their other albums, The Obsolescence starts with the final notes from their previous 2017 album, “Extraction”.

The band comments on “Obsolescence”:

“We think people are going to really enjoy the mix of the sound they’ve come to know and love alongside some new ingredients. ‘Obsolescence’ brings together both people who have been in the band for 20+ years, and people who have only recently joined. It gives the music both a familiar and a fresh sound that we’re really excited to share. Some songs are going to be immediate fan-favourites, and others we think are really going to grow on people. Ultimately, we want people to have fun. The band is sort of like an onion, in that there’s something immediate there that’s fun, catchy, and of course, heavy. But for people who want to keep peeling the layers back, they’ll find some unexpected harmonies, some lyrics with a deeper meaning to them. Admittedly a lot of people may also need to learn a second language (French or English) to actually understand all the lyrics. Ultimately, there’s something there for everyone. If you want to just rock out and have fun, you’ll enjoy our music. And if you want something that goes a bit deeper, you’ll also find that.”

Recommended for fans of Misery Index, Testament, and Nevermore, “Obsolescence” was released on September 13th from Bam & Co. Heavy and is available at the following links:

“From the slow, chugging intro to the fast, thrashy chorus, this is pure, unadulterated death metal with plenty of doomy and thrashy elements to keep people on their toes. The band have been at it for 20 years, and this song (The Gathering) is proof that they aren’t slowing down any time soon.” – Decibel Magazine

“This new single (Bless the Machine) goes flat-out right from the start, launched by an extended, serrated-edge scream, rapidly thrusting grooves, and a blizzard of mechanistic yet maniacal riffing. Intestinally deep gutturals proclaim their murderous prayer as the music occasionally seems to dismally moan and wail. The drums methodically chop, but while razor-sharp in their execution they also prove to be just as berserk as the fleet-fingered contortions of the fretwork. And yes, the song includes a head-spinning guitar solo that does sound like a refugee from Castlevania. It’s a hell of a wild, adrenaline-fueled gallop, further fueled by doubled voices screaming, but the song also frequently does sound like malicious machines ecstatically stitching steel through blasted flesh and broken bones — and like the piteous agonies of their victims.” – NoCleanSinging

“the group continues its metallic death proposition and this fifth album (Obsolescence) is intended to be as refreshing as an autumn swim in the Ottawa River. In other words, it keeps you alive and wakes you up.” – Ars Media QC

“Seven years have passed since their album Extraction. Be warned: it’s not in vain. A real punch in the throat! Brutality wall to wall. Despite the pandemic, the guys from Insurrection haven’t taken a break…. Obsolescence leaves you wanting more. For fans, you’ll be well served. For those who didn’t know them, now is a great time to discover them. 8.8/10” – Metal Universe

“Insurrection de Gatineau pulls no punches with Obsolescence which will be released in mid-September. After listening to their two extracts, Bless The Machine and The Gathering, clearly it’s going to be the bomb!” – Thorium Magazine

“Insurrection have easily out-done themselves with Obsolescence. This is, without doubt, world-class, groove-heavy death metal that can go toe to fucking toe with any band in the sub-genre. The production and mix is second to none, perfectly capturing the unique intensity of the songs.” – All Father Metal

“Another fine little slab of death metal from Canada’s Insurrection… Obsolescence is quite varied, first by having songs sung in English and French, but above all their death metal goes anywhere from crunchy death/thrash to melodic death metal to Swedish-style old-school death metal, and hell, some of the USDM school as well while they’re at it. So, they’re kind of all over the place but the album is cohesive, and this little musical rollercoaster stays on the tracks the whole time. The melodic passages are especially catchy, and so are the growls (mostly decipherable) with the vocal lines and some of the lyrics sticking around once it’s all over. Well done. 4/5” – The Metal Crypt

“Obsolescence is a very successful fourth album, once again combining the technique of the Quebec scene and the groove of an old man Gojira or one Revocation, all sprinkled with a good dose of plump violence. In short, we’re having a great time !” – Eklektik Rock

“Insurrection reflect today’s death metal scene rather well. On Obsolescence, we can appreciate clean production, crushing riffs, and a level of technical proficiency that, though elaborate, doesn’t devolve into something too complicated. It’s still easy to find the groove in each of the tracks. Hence, it’s somewhere in the middle between a melodic death metal band like The Black Dahlia Murder and more technical acts like Beyond Creation… it’s a fun listen!” – Heavy Music HQ

“a mangy in-your-face board with rich grooves, some thrashy set pieces and a noticeably thumping bass that knows how to shake up the pit of the stomach a bit, especially after breakfast. ” – PowerMetal.de

“If a well produced and well balanced variety of dynamic extreme metal with a liberal amount of switches back and forth between thrash metal and extreme metal territories is music that tend to interest you, this is an album that should appeal to you.” – Viking in the Wilderness

“Nice and meaty death/melodic death. Catchy groovin stuff!” – Moshpit Radio 89.9 FM WORT (Madison, WI)
