Once again, Canada’s molten cauldron of metal, its crucible of carnage, spews forth a new release from one of its fine bands, the splendidly named VANTABLACK WARSHIP. Formed by veterans of the Quebec metal scene (Arseniq33, Ghoulunatics, Brutal Chérie, Foreshadow, Les Ékorchés, Buffalo Theory Mtl), this Montreal quintet conjures up images of a neon black pirate ship come to wage a metal storm on an unsuspecting Earth.
Metal legend Tony Dolan, AKA The Demolition Man of Venom Inc. recently described VANTABLACK WARSHIP as a “Cool Slayer”.
The band’s new album “Abrasive Pulmoic Speak” due out on January 26th, 2018 features eight tracks of just solid riffage from heavy hardcore speed demon ripping to sludgy down tunes all applied with dirty in your face vocals ready to destroy with its moshpit anthems.
Guitarist Pat Gordon comments:
“Abrasive Pulmonic Speak”, the title of our album is a testimony to the harshness of our lyrics and music. They are pretty hardcore! But it also refers to the title track, which is based on the works of Henry Miller. He was expatriated for some of his earlier works that he put into print that at those times people never dared say out loud. We are trying to channel that but from another an angle which is the stereotype that comes with metal music, which, quite frankly is tired. We have metalheads that are well into their 60s and 70s today. It’s annoying that people see us as a subculture when in fact we are a very legitimate culture.”
Teaming up with IDIOTEQ.com, VANTABLACK WARSHIP is sharing their next video “Another Dead Rockstar”, a track lyrically written from a firsthand perspective by a female mixed martial arts fighter and her graphic accounts in the ring.
The band comments:
“Another Dead Rockstar is a term coined by the band to describe a certain breed of musician who continues to chase the dream of stardom but ends up sowing a path of disrepute and shame.”

For those in the Montreal area, VANTABLACK WARSHIP will be hosting their CD launch show on February 10th at Katacombes with Floating Widget and Dizzygoth. Details can be found here.
“Vantablack Warship is a destructive machine live. Something to do with the heaviness of the sound! It echoes the decibel breaking Motorhead was known for with their loud amps. We are straight to the point non-stop metal! No dawdling around on stage and useless banter. We set a good atmosphere and interrelate well with the crowd. Vantablack Warship to the max!”

“This is an 8 track album of pure metal that is full of incredible riffs and in your face vocals. Their hardcore, thrash and metal influences can clearly be heard throughout, however, they are no copy, they completely own this sound. It is as outstanding record and a definite must hear for all metal and thrash fans.” – Baby Dolls And Razor Blades
“a pulverising hybrid between black, thrash, death and hardcore…an intense and overwhelming album.” – Merchants of Air
“It’s a menacing mix of explosive thrash and you can let it pummel your senses by hitting play” – Exclaim!
“thrash, groove and gnarly vocals…it’s metal from start to finish and yet the overwhelming sense throughout is that this band’s attitude is punk to the core.” – Five Albums
“Assurément un groupe québécois à suivre et à ne pas manquer lorsqu’ils se produiront en spectacle dans votre région. Croyez-moi sur parole, Vantablack Warship – le mini-album et le groupe – fera date dans l’histoire de notre métal. ” – Muzik Injection
“The six songs are exactly what you would expect from a band in this genre, hard, ruthless, aggressive and this with a healthy dose of “f*ck the world and all in it” attitude…With this short record, Vantablack Warship shows they fit right into the current crossover scene and fans of bands like Municipal Waste or Suicidal Tendencies can surely appreciate this little piece of work.” – Lords of Metal
“It’s a hard hitting good time from start to end, no weak spots. It’s a mind bending cluster fuck to the tenth power. The vocals through out the album, so rich, yet so creative and they are their own thing. The melodies and mixing, everything has been extraordinary. It was more than a pleasure to listen to this!” – Taste of Khaos
“play a remarkably catchy brand of rocking deaththrash” – The Killchain Blog
“I’m very much digging it and hopefully there will be more coming from Vantablack Warship because I’ll be spinning this one over and over again.” – Thy Demons Be Scribblin

0 NEWS: MetalInjection Premiere GREBER’s New Video “Grave Plot”; New Album “Cemetery Preston” Out February 2nd + Eastern Canadian Tour Dates (ON/QC/NB/NS)

(contact info below)
NEWS RELEASE
Montreal, QC – January 18, 2018
For fans of Unearthly Trance, Man Is The Bastard, Black Sheep Wall, Lightning Bolt, Cult Leader
MetalInjection Premiere GREBER’s New Video “Grave Plot”
New Album “Cemetery Preston” Out February 2nd
Eastern Canadian Tour Dates (ON/QC/NB/NS)

L to R – Marc Bourgon – Bass, Vocals, Steve Vargas – Drums, Vocals
Henry Miller wrote one of the great truths of life when he said “All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous unpremeditated act without the benefit of experience.”
Such a quote could describe bass-and-drums duo GREBER, save that with past and present members of Fuck the Facts and The Great Sabatini, they have a great wealth of experience to bring to the table. Inspired by the truly great bands like Neurosis and Propaghandi, but inspired not to slavishly imitate what they have already created, but to forge their own sound, to blaze new trails. To look out at the world that surrounds us and reflect what they see truthfully; as though holding up a mirror to the darkness in the hope of reflecting a glimmer of light.
They truly have gazed into the abyss and put to music what they see there; their music has huge depths and they have none of the limitations that plague so many bands. They truly are their own beast and they truly have their own sound.
Since forming in 2008, GREBER have released two well-received full length albums, three 7″ inch split singles, and played countless shows. As if they were morphing into a single entity, Drummer Steve Vargas and bassist/vocalist Marc Bourgon have made GREBER into their own unique entity, something as important to the duo as food and air.
On February 2, 2018, GREBER will release their new album “Cemetery Preston”, through collaborations between Ancient Temple Recordings, Pink Lemonade Recordings, Hibernation Release, No Why Records and d7i Records, on LP, CD, cassette and digital download. Audience’s jaws will drop at the raw mining of emotions it contains, its searing sincerity, and sheer innovation. As Bourgon explains. “Cemetery Preston is our best attempt at taking a fleeting snapshot of this living purgatory that we all call life.”
Teaming up with MetalInjection.net, the grind hardcore duo is premiering their new video and second single “Grave Plot”.
Drummer Steve Vargas comments:
“Grave Plot was kind of the weirdo song on the record for us. We tried to give it a dark and almost unnerving vibe to coincide with the lyrics. It’s bit of a detour for us as far as the entire album goes, but helps add a mood to the release that I think shines a different light on what we were trying to get across.”

“…a ridiculously bottom-heavy racket” – Decibel Magazine
“The short version: If most “normal” grind is like a dude in a hockey mask hacking you to death with a machete, than Greber might be best described as a really pissed-off dude thumping you to death with a hammer, or maybe a 2 x 4. The edges may not be sharp, but it’s still fucking painful, y’know?” – Metal Sucks
“…the sound of two awesome dudes, one riding a bass like a surfboard, the other in a drum kit like a barrel, plunging down the steepest face of Mount Everest, sober but mad, screaming their way through the almost impassable barrier of snow, rock, trees, starving animals and unstoppable velocity.” – David Hall, Handshake Inc. via Exclaim!
“this endless onslaught of blast beats smashing against detuned chug riffs, embittered, possessed bellowing, cacophonous and melodic interludes, with occasional audio samples is accomplished by nothing more than two minds looking to do the same thing: annihilate comprehension, deconstruct the rigid state of modern extreme music and create some of the heaviest fucking music possible” – Exclaim!
“What we have here folks is a seriously brutal fucked up and loud assault on the senses with this superb split release from Greber and Hiroshima Vacation. Excellent and Highly Recommended” – The Sludgelord
“Cambridge, Ontario’s Greber exists on the low end of things with their guitar-less line-up giving them a sludgier feel during those moments they slow down to a proverbial, but not complete, crawl. Rhythmic, pulsing and noisy, their three songs are like the most convulsive soundtrack to the dirtiest sex you’ll ever have during your 20s.”- Decibel Magazine
“There is actually so much sonic space taken up with the bass, drums, enraged vocals, and other creepy aural nuances, that one couldn’t possibly imagine trying to fit in a guitar track anywhere.” – Noisography

(contact info below)
NEWS RELEASE
Montreal, QC – January 17, 2018
For fans of After The Burial, Rings of Saturn, All Shall Perish, August Burns Red, Born of Osiris
GearGods Premiere: PROTOSEQUENCE “Parasitic” Drum Playthrough
New EP Out “Biophagous”

Drawing influence from acts like All Shall Perish, August Burns Red, and The Black Dahlia Murder, PROTOSEQUENCE root their music in technicality while layering emotional, yet gruff vocals weaved into every track. The band transitions seamlessly through djent riffs, grinding drums and groove elements, making their sound versatile and ever-changing. Their latest EP “Biophagous” was unleashed this past August to follow their 2016 debut “Schizophrene”.
Teaming up with GearGods, PROTOSEQUENCE‘s drummer Logan Vars is showcasing his pounding force and technicality with a new playthrough for the band’s track “Parasitic”.
Vars comments:
“Parasitic was the first single we released off “Biophagous” and is the most Tech-Death song on it. Lots of blast beats with some neat-o fills that I’m pretty proud of. It has been a goal of mine for awhile to release a one-take, unedited playthrough and I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out. I’d like to thank my friends Nick of Nick Laird Videography for the steady cam/video editing and Andrew of Echo Tree Audio for recording, mixing, and mastering the audio. Also, big thanks to my band mates Kyle, Jacob, Joe, and Parker for being so rad, Cara Ashbey for all her hard work, and Gear Gods for picking up this video!”

About:
Edmonton’s own Protosequence offer a rush of groovy guitar parts met with story-filled lyrics and serene, landscape-sized instrumentals that roll like hills into a valley.
Protosequence is a reference to the original genome where all life began — much like the band, which existed in principle before they even had a presence. Each of the members were lying in wait to be activated and become the strain that is now Protosequence. Kyle Hunter (guitar) was constantly crafting near-complete songs that were ready to be realized. It did not take long for Kyle and Logan Vars (drums) to finally meet. It seemed as though there were two projects destined to combine into a singular effort to form the final line-up for the band: Logan (drums), Kyle (guitar), Parker (guitar), Joseph McKee (vocals), and Ryan Schaffler (ex-bassist) who is now replaced by Jacob Teeple. Members have a long history in the Edmonton music scene, playing in bands like Anubian and In The Midst Of A Murder since the early 2000s.
The band draws influence from acts like All Shall Perish, August Burns Red, and The Black Dahlia Murder. With a foothold on their influences, they root their music in technicality while layering emotional, yet gruff vocals weaved into every track. The band transitions seamlessly through djent riffs, grinding drums, and groove elements, making their sound versatile and ever-changing. Each live performance is crafted like an album played from front to back, with each song bearing a story and painting the room like a canvas — leaving the colours and experiences on each audience member.
The band will be releasing their new EP “Biophagous” on August 18th, 2017 to follow their 2016 debut EP “Schizophrene”.

“Edmonton’s Protosequence perform an agile balancing act on the new song “Shepherd” we’re bringing you from their forthcoming EP, Biophagus, a high-wire performance that deftly straddles a stylistic divide without ever losing their path forward.” No Clean Singing
“In the vein of bands like All Shall Perish & Born of Osiris, Protosequence kick proceedings off with the furiously tech riffing of Parasitic, a wild & untamed slab of death metal. That is until a surprising tempo change that brings in some keyboards & more classic metal sounding guitar solo. It’s a damn strong start, one that leaves you wondering just what more Biophagous has to offer.” – Games, Braaaiiins And A Headbanging Life
“Protosequence is an act of quality over quantity. I get seriously lost in their music, be it through a spine-damaging headbanging session (“DFL”) or stretch of melodic introspection (“Shepherd”). Biophagous offers up another nice showcase of the band’s skill across a variety of substyles and paces.” – Metal Trenches
“Protosequence takes the insane melodic riffage of metalcore bands like August Burns Red or Novelists, and mixes them with tech death elements of bands like The Black Dahlia Murder which makes for what I think could be a band that has the potential to break through and make it huge…Biophagus is of another caliber, every aspect of it is flawless, and will not only be in my playlist but should be in everyone else’s as well. Whatever you do, do not sleep on this band. Make sure you pick up Biophagus when it releases August 18th! ” – Blood Rock Media
“Incorporating elements from deathcore, technical death metal, and, yes, even djent, Protosequence manages to maintain the listener’s interest while developing an identity that is not only unique to Canada, but to the world. ” – It Djents
“Traversing between djent and technical progressive metal” – Somberlane

BIO:
Born in Toronto in 1989, singer, songsmith and multi-instrumentalist, Morgan Rider had his earliest imaginings of life as a musician while contending with a tumultuous childhood at home.
Often overhearing his mother – who is a trained operatic soprano – rehearsing in the kitchen, his love of music and his understanding of it began to blossom at an early age. His mornings and evenings were soon spent banging away on an old Dominion upright piano – made in the town he now resides – often to the displeasure of those around him.
Despite his ever changing family and residential climates, music remained an integral component to his maturity. In high school he would often skip class to sit in the woods to play guitar. It would also not be uncommon to see him braving a snowstorm with his guitar across his back to walk several kilometres to guitar lessons.
It is not hard to imagine that his main priority remained with music after high school, while most of his peers went on to office and factory jobs or the trades. As his freedom expanded, so too did his ambitions.
As Morgan cast his net further, he began to perform shows further distances away which began to create a small audience of peers and fans. He also began to book small shows and tours for local and out of town bands. It was not long before he was accommodating international artists.
With his expanding resources, knowledge and contacts, he began to tour his music domestically – often spending weeks or months in an old van – branching from coast to coast across Canada. In summer of 2011, Morgan was called upon by his longtime friend David Gold – who was the main songwriter and visionary of the band Woods of Ypres – to contribute his talents to Woods of Ypres for some live shows in the UK that winter. Being one of Morgan’s favourite bands, this was a sound decision for him. Unfortunately, it would not come to pass, as David died tragically months later.
Between 2012 and 2013, Morgan played his first international shows in the U.S.A. with SIG:AR:TYR and at Wacken Open Air in Germany with Crimson Shadows.
Since 2012, Morgan has performed, recorded and toured across North America, performing hundreds of gigs with a variety of heavy metal groups such as Vesperia, Crimson Shadows and SIG:AR:TYR. He also is the sole writer, engineer and visionary for his solo blues/ folk project, Deep Dark River.

“Given that The Ichor Carcinoma has so many guests, it stands to reason that it has a diverse sound, ranging from hyper-speed solos, breakdowns, a mixture of screams and clean singing and more, but at the end of the day, it can be classified as an impressive melodic death metal debut.” – Decibel Magazine
“”Buried Realm’s debut album The Ichor Carcinoma, which sees the next chapter in the soul key band member Josh Dummer’s, emotionally charged dark twisted vision come to life in the form of a hard hitting, electrifyingly intense experience for fans of Heavy Metal to experience and enjoy.” – Noizze UK “After the melodic and haunting intro ‘Portal’ sets the tone for the album, listeners are treated to a full-frontal assault in the form of the album’s title track, ‘The Ichor Carcinoma’. This no holds barred shredfest is a perfect demonstration for what is yet to come, and a fantastic introduction to the sound that Buried Realm mastermind Josh Dummer has spent so many years working on. The track also showcases the first of many guest appearances on the album, with Bob Katsionis (Firewind, Revolution Renaissance) letting all hell loose in one of the most daring keyboard solos you’re likely to hear all year.” – Overdrive Mag
“There’s plenty of ear-candy to be found on The Ichor Carcinoma – be it in the form of aggressive melodeath riffing, soaring leads, or sheer vocal variety. While it doesn’t stray far outside of the genre realms, there’s only a handful of releases that one can think of in recent memory that execute it with this much passion and finesse. With its time of release, one hopes that the album doesn’t become lost in the mix of fall juggernauts. This is too strong to be overlooked.” – Dead Rhetoric
“There is more than enough content to shred your ears within The Ichor Carcinoma and more than enough to keep you listening over and over again, and that is just what this release does.” – Cadaver Garden
“Usually one man bands tend to sound almost amateurish due to their lack if input from other musicians, but every now and again you get one that does it well. The Ichor Carcinoma, from Buried Realm is one of those albums.” – Demons Zone
