DEEP DARK RIVER (Vesperia’s Morgan Rider) New Acoustic Blues Folk Video “The Golden Bough”

Best known for his vocals and bass playing in Canada’s much loved Vesperia, Morgan Rider is proud to reveal is his new video for “The Golden Bough” from his new solo acoustic folk, blues, doom side project DEEP DARK RIVER. The video addresses today’s recent tragedies of unfortunate victims from guns to war and the time to come together as a society and really push for difference from repeating these tragedies over and over again.
Rider comments:
“The song has been the most organic and charged song I’ve ever written. It talks about the very real issues we are facing in 2018 in the wake of yet another avoidable tragedy.
Echoing a sentiment of a contemporary of mine: John Lennon. The man preached universal love and unity for people of all walks of life, only to have his own life taken one December night by a man armed with a firearm. How many more people have to lose their lives, how many families will have to put their loved ones into the ground before this crushing reality begins to even create a whisper of change? How long will it be before we realize that we are alone in an incalculably vast darkness; that we only have each other and the other sentient creatures on this planet for warmth and company.
The Golden Bough is about stripping away all the petty differences we visualize over our appearances, geographies and beliefs. To brace ourselves for the storm, we need to stand beside each other and remove the crowns we have fashioned for ourselves and for one another; to see what we truly are.”

Vancouver’s blackened death thrashers HALLUX reveal their new music video “Yersinia Pestis” in support of their debut self titled album unleashed this past February. Inspired by Toxic Holocaust, Satan’s Wrath, S.O.D, Celtic Frost, and Power Trip, the trio offers a thrash album with influences that draw from Death, Black, Crossover and D-Beat. The album features ragers such as ‘Yersinia Pestis’, ‘Master Machine’, ‘Chosen Enemy’, ‘Absolved in Flames’, and ‘Herders of the Weak’.
The band comments:
“We decided to start a project focused on a straight-forward approach and aesthetic inspired by early extreme metal bands, with the classic three-piece line-up, and leaving behind anything other than the absolute necessity to pull it off. We hope this album is received as a representation of our ideals by like-minded people…We want it to incite feelings of disconformities and disdain by illustrating the corruption of all forms of authority.”

About:
HALLUX are a band, who, in the immortal words of Max Cavalera, have gone ‘back to the primitive.’ Like a volcano of toxic sludge, they have cracked the crust of conformity that envelopes the world, shedding molten light on the oppression and fear that surrounds us.
Inspired by Toxic Holocaust, Satan’s Wrath, S.O.D, Celtic Frost, and Power Trip, drummer Ian Demian-Pérez describes HALLUX’s sound as “encrusted anti-authoritarian deathened thrash!”, while their debut self-titled album, which includes ragers such as ‘Yersinia Pestis’, ‘Master Machine’, ‘Chosen Enemy’, ‘Absolved in Flames’, and ‘Herders of the Weak’, he describes as “a thrash album with influences that draw from Death, Black, Crossover and D-Beat, we are a band that deals with the deception, lies, and oppression enforced by the powers that be!”
Perez explains the meaning of his band’s intriguing name.
“Hallux means ‘big toe’ in Latin, and is representative of what keeps us human and connected to this realm. No matter how much a person tries to transcend spiritually, their big toe remains buried in the mud.”
Live, HALLUX showcases their no-frills philosophy.
“We play tight and straight to the point sets, with little or no banter between songs and relentlessly playing song-after-song. We are not the kind of band that has gimmicks. We like to keep it simple and direct!”
HALLUX’s self-titled album was released on February 23, 2018 on Bandcamp, iTunes, CD Baby and all major online retailers.

0 Noizze UK – North Hammer: ‘Stormcaller’ | Album Review
Stormcaller sounds polished and well thought out from the get go. Launched up melodic guitar riffs upon energetic drums and excitingly aggressive rasped vocal stylings and quickly an epic sense of victory takes hold. Managing to keep this atmosphere constant is no easy feat for a band and North Hammer manages to keep a good balance throughout. Powerful pieces of Metal are partnered with atmospheric folk melodies to give peace as a calm before a storm. This just gets the energy tense and even higher to launch into another powerful moment for the album.

0 Canadian Beats – North Hammer – Stromcaller
Though the album itself can be viewed as a concept album, each track stands out individually and brings a new twist to Viking-metal with a North (Canadian) feel to the heavier metal genre. If you like Amon Amarth, Ensiferum, and Wintersun you won’t be disappointed in this album.
