About:

Edmonton’s own Protosequence offer a rush of groovy guitar parts met with story-filled lyrics and serene, landscape-sized instrumentals that roll like hills into a valley.

Protosequence is a reference to the original genome where all life began — much like the band, which existed in principle before they even had a presence. Each of the members were lying in wait to be activated and become the strain that is now Protosequence. Kyle Hunter (guitar) was constantly crafting near-complete songs that were ready to be realized. It did not take long for Kyle and Logan Vars (drums) to finally meet. It seemed as though there were two projects destined to combine into a singular effort to form the final line-up for the band: Logan (drums), Kyle (guitar), Parker (guitar), Joseph McKee (vocals), and Ryan Schaffler (ex-bassist) who is now replaced by Jacob Teeple. Members have a long history in the Edmonton music scene, playing in bands like Anubian and In The Midst Of A Murder since the early 2000s.

The band draws influence from acts like All Shall Perish, August Burns Red, and The Black Dahlia Murder. With a foothold on their influences, they root their music in technicality while layering emotional, yet gruff vocals weaved into every track. The band transitions seamlessly through djent riffs, grinding drums, and groove elements, making their sound versatile and ever-changing. Each live performance is crafted like an album played from front to back, with each song bearing a story and painting the room like a canvas — leaving the colours and experiences on each audience member.

The band will be releasing their new EP “Biophagous” on August 18th, 2017 to follow their 2016 debut EP “Schizophrene”.

“Edmonton’s Protosequence perform an agile balancing act on the new song “Shepherd” we’re bringing you from their forthcoming EP, Biophagus, a high-wire performance that deftly straddles a stylistic divide without ever losing their path forward.” No Clean Singing

“In the vein of bands like All Shall Perish & Born of Osiris, Protosequence kick proceedings off with the furiously tech riffing of Parasitic, a wild & untamed slab of death metal. That is until a surprising tempo change that brings in some keyboards & more classic metal sounding guitar solo. It’s a damn strong start, one that leaves you wondering just what more Biophagous has to offer.” – Games, Braaaiiins And A Headbanging Life

“Protosequence is an act of quality over quantity.  I get seriously lost in their music, be it through a spine-damaging headbanging session (“DFL”) or stretch of melodic introspection (“Shepherd”).  Biophagous offers up another nice showcase of the band’s skill across a variety of substyles and paces.” – Metal Trenches

“Protosequence takes the insane melodic riffage of metalcore bands like August Burns Red or Novelists, and mixes them with tech death elements of bands like The Black Dahlia Murder which makes for what I think could be a band that has the potential to break through and make it huge…Biophagus is of another caliber, every aspect of it is flawless, and will not only be in my playlist but should be in everyone else’s as well. Whatever you do, do not sleep on this band. Make sure you pick up Biophagus when it releases August 18th! ” – Blood Rock Media

“Incorporating elements from deathcore, technical death metal, and, yes, even djent, Protosequence manages to maintain the listener’s interest while developing an identity that is not only unique to Canada, but to the world. ” – It Djents

“Traversing between djent and technical progressive metal” – Somberlane

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 19, 2018

Italian Folk Metal KANSEIL Unleash New Lyric Video “Densilòc”

New Album “Fulìsche” Out May 25 (EU), June 8 (NA) via Rockshots Records

Italian folk metal KANSEIL have posted a new lyric video for their track “Densilòc” in support of their second full length “Fulìsche” due out on May 25th in Europe and June 8th in North America via Rockshots Records.

Watch it now at the following link:

Formed in 2010, KANSEIL are a 21st century version of their land’s rich-story telling tapestry, they are bards with instruments, musical archaeologists, excavating the sounds and stories of their country’s past to create something new, beguiling and beautiful.

Inspired by Eluveitie, Skyforger, Arkona, Agalloch and Alcest plus having performed with the likes of Korpiklaani, At The Gates, Enslaved, Folkstone, Manegarm, Arkona, and Omnia, KANSEIL‘s second full length “Fulìsche” follows their 2015 debut “Doin Earde” released on Nemeton Records.

The band comments:

“’Fulìsche’ are the sparks of a fire moving away from the element they were born from, they shine in their own glow and you can watch them for a few instants before they disappear forever in the dark…In the same way mankind’s stories live in the collective memory until they take flight and you have a limited time to look at them and catch their beauty before they’re lost.”

“Each song has a special flavor to them as some are more aggressive beaters that are driven by bagpipes for that extra kick, and others flow like water as the flutes, bagpipes, and rauschpfeife take the foreground to really show the brilliant sense of musicianship behind Kanseil.” – Head-Banger Reviews

Vancouver, BC’s progressive tech death metallers NECK OF THE WOODS will be trekking across Canada and USA this April and May in support of their debut album “The Passenger” released last September via Basick Records. The debut album was recorded at Rain City Recorders and produced by Stu McKillop and the band, with art direction by vocalist Jeff Radomsky and layout design by Kevin Moore at Soft Surrogate. The nine-track offering truly captures the band’s crushing blend of progressive, death-inspired, technical, and groove-laden metal.

Guitarist Dave Carr comments:

“We can’t wait to hit the road and make some new friends. Being from Ontario myself, I’m personally very excited to bring this band back to where I grew up and play the circuit. This is a huge opportunity to get our music out to a whole new fan base, especially with the US dates. We’re ready to hit the road and show everyone what NOTW is all about!”

Vocalist Jeff Radomsky adds:

“We’re all looking forward to playing for a ton of new audiences across Canada and the Eastern U.S.. We’ll be branching into so many new areas, most of which I’ve never traveled to! Save the date, this tour will be one you won’t forget!”

Unrelenting in their live performances, NECK OF THE WOODS have quickly earned themselves a reputation as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Vancouver’s metal scene. Making appearances at multiple Canadian festivals (Loud As Hell, Sled Island, Armstrong Metal Fest, Calgary Metal Fest) along with supporting major touring acts such as CONVERGE, EVERY TIME I DIE, MISERY SIGNALS and more, NECK OF THE WOODS have established themselves as a high energy set not to be missed. Their sonic palette is one that is complex, dynamic, and progressive, continuously pounding away at the wall of death.

“The Passenger” is available digitally through Basick Records here and on physical CD through the band’s Bandcamp here.

“This is an assured slab of stylish and progressive extremity from an obscenely talented band with shitloads of potential..” – METAL HAMMER

“Progressive metal outfit Neck Of The Woods have combined deep grooves, technicality and progressive elements and merged them with death metal on their upcoming debut release, The Passenger.” – DECIBEL MAGAZINE

“Their influences come from all over the prog metal spectrum (and beyond), and as such there really is no way to get any more specific. You’ll be tempted to compare them to Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Soilwork and even Every Time I Die… and then there’s the guitar solo, which some straight up, epic Zakk Wylde shit. And that’s just on this one track from an album of nine.” – METALSUCKS

“Citing bands such as Between The Buried and Me, Opeth, and Gojira amongst their primary influences, the nine tracks which make up The Passenger offer a riveting blend of big riffs, big grooves, and equally big hooks which should readily appeal to fans of similarly Prog/Death-inspired acts like Iron Thrones (RIP) and Black Crown Initiate.” – NO CLEAN SINGING

Montreal, QC – April 18, 2018

For fans of Septicflesh, Wolfheart, Abigail Williams, Behemoth, Watain, Dissection

Ottawa’s Blackened Death Demons SERENE DARK (formerly Endemise) Unleash A Brutal “Dualitatem” via NoCleanSinging

L-R- Alex Aksentyev – Bass / Dale Sauve – Guitar / Francesco Falsetto – Vocals / David Sauve – Drums / Graham Murphy – Guitar

Like a blackened metallic phoenix rising from the ashes of their previous band Endemise; Ottawa’s SERENE DARK intends to take their extreme metal to new heights. Recently morphing from Endemise to SERENE DARK, these demons have joined forces with NoCleanSinging.com for the premiere of their debut track “Dualitatem”, which will be featured on the band’s 2018 album.

Guitarist Dale Sauve explains:“We have been making metal with our current line-up for the past 7 years and decided a new name and fresh start was in order. Our former band Endemise formed over 12 years ago and it went through so many line-up changes and musical directions, we decided to put that band to rest and create Serene Dark as a fresh start.”

Inspired by Septicflesh, Behemoth, Watain, Dark Funeral and Dissection, SERENE DARK‘s sound is dark, heavy, entrancing, emotional, and orchestral.

Sauve adds:

“It will be received as a new, but familiar sound for any previous fans of our last band…We want our fans to get lost in the music. We want to peak some interest in fans of this style of music…For the last six months all five members have been getting together and collaborating as a group. We have written a lot of songs and chosen our top ten favourites. Fans can expect a full-length album in fall 2018.”

“An epic, heavy and creative vibe to this album which I think would appeal to fans of mid period Dimmu Borgir, Insomnium, Abigail Williams, Fleshgod Apocalypse.” – Loud Stuff

“They produce an array of songs that have an incredible sound that are  magnificently orchestrated.” – Metal Temple

“Through Anathema Endemise demonstrates the ability to filter several European influences into a unique sound from a Canadian perspective.  It is a fine edition to the black metal catalogue of any connoisseur of these dark musical arts.” – Glacially Musical

“Endemise is yet another Canadian metal band that has managed to create something fucking awesome and special.” – The Dirty Room

“Black metal vocals, death metal riffs and hella lot of blastbeats. Endemise strikes with ‘Anathema’ and does so in an unrelenting manner. This extreme metal chaos will surely crush some norms settled upon by high culture tyrants.” – Lords of Metal

“Anathema is a promising outing for these Canadian natives.” – Metal Trenches

In 2013, Dying Awkward Angel finally unleashed their debut full length album ‘Waiting For Punishment’, following it in 2016 with a well-received EP entitled ‘Madness Rising’.

Dying Awkward Angel’s current line-up is founding member Edoardo Demuro on guitar, Luca Pellegrino on drums, Lorenzo Asselli on guitars, David Onidaon bass, and Michael Spallieri on vocals.

Inspired by In Flames, At The Gates, Carcass, Dark Tranquillity, Slayer, Death, Pantera, and Metallica, Edoardo describes Dying Awkward Angel’s sound as “melodic, angry, insane, furious, ambiguous”.

Edoardo explains the meaning of his band’s intriguing name.

“It can have more than one meaning. From my personal point of view it’s a part of each man. It represents an ancestral state where the man was closer to a divine entity. Today that part is not dead but it is forgotten. So: Dying Awkward Angel.”

Edoardo sees Dying Awkward Angel’s new music as a great progression.

“We started with the only goal of destroying everything…Over the years we have been working to achieve a more solid and understandable sound. We have created the very personal Dying Awkward Angel sound…’Absence of Light’ is a new era for us; the first official release, a mature sound, an increased richness of themes, a real fucking powerful new voice on our music.
