Switzerland’s Majesty of Silence was founded in the spring of 1996 by Peter Papadimitriya (drums), Peter Mahler (guitar) and Christian Geissmann (first bass, then guitar) who shared a passion for black metal. In regards to their decision of the name, the band quotes “the contrast between our sound and silence gave the impulse to the name. It had something mystical, sublime, and magical to it.”
Citing a wide variety of influences including Dimmu Borgir, Immortal and Sonata Arctica the band affirms “Silence differs from absent noise and that it’s obvious that this is no mass music.” With lyrical themes encompassing everyday problems, an ongoing lack of humanity, and the control that wrath has over a person, the band works collaboratively to write music that truly resonates with listeners.
In 1999 by the first album “Darkness Has No End” was released. The ongoing contrast between their sound and silence gave the inspiration to the band’s name. It was well received, and soon after new songs were written that dwarfed the album. This culminated in the release of a succession album in 2003 titled “But There’s a Light” which brought out the band’s musical versatility. With only three members, the band performed live in various venues and continuously received good responses.
After appearing on various compilations Majesty of Silence began working on the new album entitled “Lichtsille”. It saw the light of day in early 2006 after the band enlisted Simon Huber (keyboards) to finalize the line-up. After four successful years of playing live the departure of keyboarder Simon Huber and drummer Peter Papadimitriya sent Majesty of Silence into hiatus between 2010 and 2016.
Since 2016, Peter Mahler and Christian Geissmann continue the band as a two man project. In spring 2018 the long-awaited follow-up album “Zu Dunkel Für das Licht” will be released on Extreme Metal Music / Rockshots Records on May 25th.
