Serpentyne enchants fans with “Prophetess of Dreams”, the first single from their highly anticipated album “Tales from the Dark” out February 2025. This hard-hitting, fast-paced track is the album’s powerful introduction, showcasing the darker and fiercer side of the band’s evolving sound.

Opening with a “barrage of bullet-like guitar riffs,” as described by the band, “Prophetess of Dreams” immediately sets an intense tone. The song seamlessly combines modern, aggressive metal elements with the symphonic and choral layers that define Serpentyne’s music. Guitarist Lee Willmer utilizes an 8-string guitar to create unprecedented depth and heaviness, while the dual vocals of Maggiebeth Sand and Nigel Middleton add dramatic intensity.

Lyrically, the track delves into humanity’s timeless desire to uncover destiny. The prophetess, a central figure in the song, unveils what lies ahead with lines like, “Tell my fortune today, oracle of answers, will my luck fade away, or is it here to stay?”. This thematic depth, coupled with the band’s dynamic instrumentation, delivers a cinematic and immersive experience.

“Prophetess of Dreams” showcases a symphonic journey that bridges the grandiose with the aggressive. The single’s blend of orchestral arrangements, relentless rhythms, and evocative storytelling sets the stage for the full release of “Tales from the Dark” later this year.

Each year hundreds of metal music fans from Canada and the USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun, they spend three days camping, taking in a tonne of heavy metal fun over two days, spectating wrestling events, participating in scavenger hunts, and catching up with their extended metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Nekrogoblikon, Origin, Rivers of Nihil, Warbinger, Fallujah, Striker, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on the Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C. but also gives bands opportunities to play at different venues throughout the region including all-ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.

Prog Guitarist ROD RODRIGUES Reveals Video For Emotional Single “Mom’s Lullaby”

Coming off his recently released, deeply emotional album “Tales Of A Changing Life Part 2”, Brazilian-Canadian guitarist, music teacher, and songwriter Rod Rodrigues is pleased to release the music video for the track “Mom’s Lullaby”. This poignant single fuses blues and progressive rock together in an accessible and heartfelt instrumental that the listener can sink into. Rodrigues explains the background of the track”

“This is the most emotional song I’ve ever written. It’s a heartfelt ballad dedicated to my mom, who has always been my biggest musical influence and supporter. When I was little, she would sing lullabies to help me fall asleep, and this song is my lullaby for her.”

The album, independently released on October 18th, 2024, represents a significant milestone in Rodrigues’ musical career. Throughout his collaborations with guitarists Hugo Mariutti, Angel Vivaldi, and Roy Ziv; bassists Heitor Tenorio and Bruno Ladislau; drummers John Macaluso (ARK, TNT, Yngwie Malmsteen, Riot), Rodrigo Abelha, and Lucas Emidio; as well as Orlan Charles (keyboards, piano, and saxophone), Rodrigo Sperandio (Brazilian viola), and vocalists Wesley Poison, Ana Carla de Carli, Andressa Alves, Caroline Grossi, Matheus Grossi, and Francis Botene, Rodrigues has refined his sound. With over three decades of musical experience, Rodrigues has transformed from a musician playing in cover and wedding bands to an innovative artist pushing the boundaries of progressive rock.

“Mom’s Lullaby” embodies this transformation, offering listeners an intimate glimpse into the emotional landscape that has shaped his musical vision. It is recommended for fans of Rush, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani.

About:

Fusing prog rock with Latin rhythms guitar virtuoso Rod Rodrigues has studied with renowned musicians Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth) and Greg Howe (Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson) and has received degrees from IG&T and Claretiano University. Since 1997, he has been sharing his knowledge and skills as a music teacher in Brazil, Canada, and Europe. His e-book Guitar Shred (2016) was released in both languages, Portuguese and English, and in 2018, the guitarist and teacher launched his online training course Extreme Guitar Workout, which has attracted hundreds of students from around the world. Over the years, he has also been a member of various bands, including Enemies of Reality and Falling Into a Dream (a Dream Theater tribute band).

As a solo artist, Rodrigues released his first EP in 2010, titled “The First Step: Introduction”, which gained recognition in several music publications, including Guitar Player, Cover Guitarra, and Guitarload, among others. In 2019, he released his single “T.A.G.” followed by his concept EP, “Tales of a Changing Life Part 1” in 2022. Notably, “Tales of a Changing Life Part 1” featured the talented Marco Sfogli (James LaBrie, Premiata Forneria Marconi) on the track “Woodbine Sunset”.

Thanks to his outstanding work on “Tales of a Changing Life Part 1”, Rodrigues was voted one of the top 20 Guitar Players of 2022 by the readers of Brazilian Roadie Crew Magazine.

Released in October 2024, Rod Rodrigues produced his first full-length, “Tales of a Changing Life Part 2”, with mixing by Renato Osório and mastering by Kris Crummett (Nick Johnston, Issues, Sleeping With Sirens). For the album’s guests, Rodrigues recruited guitarists Hugo Mariutti, Angel Vivaldi, and Roy Ziv; bassists Heitor Tenorio and Bruno Ladislau; drummers John Macaluso (ARK, TNT, Yngwie Malmsteen, Riot), Rodrigo Abelha, and Lucas Emidio; as well as Orlan Charles (keyboards, piano, and saxophone), Rodrigo Sperandio (Brazilian viola), and vocalists Wesley Poison, Ana Carla de Carli, Andressa Alves, Caroline Grossi, Matheus Grossi, and Francis Botene.

“Rod Rodrigues’ upcoming release, Tales of a Changing Life Part 2, represents more than just a continuation of his musical journey—it’s a deeply personal reflection of the changes he’s experienced over the past decade. After a 12-year hiatus from releasing solo work, Rodrigues returns with an instrumental album that captures a rollercoaster of emotions through complex compositions and masterful collaborations. His ability to mix diverse musical influences is evident throughout, weaving together personal experiences, Brazilian rhythms, and progressive rock.” – Prog-Sphere (2024)

“In Tales of a Changing Life Part 2, Rodrigues not only showcases his technical virtuosity but also his ability to convey deep emotion and narrative through his compositions. His work stands as a shining example of how diverse musical influences can be melded into something both experimental and accessible. This is an album that takes listeners on a transformative journey, and in doing so, solidifies Rod Rodrigues as a unique voice in contemporary progressive music.” – Prog Archy (2024)

“Following closely the work of legendary drummer John Macaluso already brought great discoveries to my proggy table, and Rod Rodrigues’ new album makes no exception here. In best instrumental prog fusion manner, he tells the “Tales of a Changing Life” with the focus on his virtuoso guitar playing, carried by challenging yet groovy rhythm patterns, cool bass lines, and some beautiful keyboard interplays. All-together a wonderful listen if you’re into instrumental wizardry. ” – The Prog Space (2024)

“Obviously, much of the spotlight here is placed on Rodrigues’ prodigious grasp of the electric guitar. Although the album’s metal-ish side doesn’t stand any bit above what we’ve already heard from that corner of prog metal, Rod makes himself out to be an absolutely brilliant fusion guitarist, possibly one of the best I’ve heard in recent years. “Dust in My Eyes” might be my favorite track on the album for this very reason; Rod’s marriage of keen instrumental wandering and tight melodic passages is gorgeous.”- Riffage (2024

“Guitar virtuoso Rod Rodrigues latest release ‘Tales of a Changing Life is a conceptual record celebrating the changes in Rod’s life that have taken place over recent years. Straight from the Satriani-Vai-Johnson line of melodic guitar shredders, Rodrigues infuses his guitar playing style with prog, metal, fusion and jazz. While only a 5 song EP, there is a lot of great guitar work in this collection with an abundance of melodies. Perhaps not as much of a household name, Rodrigues is definitely worth getting to know.” – The Prog Report (2022)

0 Exitus Stratagem Records – The Metal World Lost A Pinnacle Brother – VORAATH Drummer Joshua Ward Passes Away At 37

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 3, 2025

Exitus Stratagem Records – The Metal World Lost A Pinnacle Brother – VORAATH Drummer Joshua Ward Passes Away At 37

The metal community is mourning the sad news of drummer, composer, and storyteller Joshua Nassaru Ward (age 37) who passed away on New Year’s Eve night December 31st after his car with him, his fiance Amanda Lynn Leroux, and two friends, Audrey Ross and Jade Burton were struck by a drunk driver on Cooley Bridge Road in Belton, South Carolina. Ward leaves behind a young son Kai. A GoFundMe has been created to aid in funeral costs, please donate at https://www.gofundme.com/f/remembering-josh-ward-music-and-martial-arts

Ward was a pinnacle force in the Carolina metal scene known for his musical adventures in Enthean, Rapheumets Well, Xael, Olkoth, and Voraath (Exitus Stratagem Records) along with being a drum tech for bands NILE, and Terrorizer plus being endorsed by Los Cabos Drumsticks and Saluda Cymbals. He had a strong passion for drumming, sci-fi lore, directing videos, martial arts, and giving back to the community with his recent humanitarian efforts delivering aid during recent floods. His memory will be forever cherished by his family and extended metal family across the United States and beyond. He was a beloved friend to all. His genuine generosity and to lead with kindness to all were one of his most beloved characteristics. Rest In Power \m/\m/ Drum Eternally On The Other Side!

Jason Fisher of Exitus Stratagem Records comments:

“It is with a heavy heart that the ExSR family reports that we have lost one of our own. Joshua Ward, the drummer and creative genius behind the band, Voraath passed away in an automobile accident on December 31st. This news comes as a harsh blow to everyone who knew him professionally and personally. Besides his stellar work with Voraath, he had also been spending time with us, putting in extra work at the label. We will miss Joshua for many reasons, from his inexhaustible imagination and passion for Voraath and its universe to his kindness and his infectious laugh. Voraath was in the process of recording new music and was about to unleash an entirely new webpage of lore for their universe. We will work with the band as they decide their next steps. A friend of Joshua’s has set up a GoFundMe page to help defray the expenses of Joshua’s funeral. We at ExSR will miss our friend and colleague.”

Please donate at https://www.gofundme.com/f/remembering-josh-ward-music-and-martial-arts

Transporting you through a portal of sci-fi storytelling and extreme music, VORAATH unleashed their first full-length “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” in June 2024 on Exitus Stratagem Records (EXSR). Brutal yet epic metal, the level of detail that VORAATH has emphasized on this record exposes a grand story of interdimensional worlds and cosmic entities warring while paying homage to their culture in the Appalachian Mountains of the Carolinas.

“This album is an investment of thought and emotion. We want to immerse the listener in another world. It’s heavy yet sad, brutal yet immersive, so we hope to take everyone on a journey. That journey is scored with metal! We think this album will be something unique, a whirlwind of emotions and an auditory odyssey. We capsulated real events in our lives and laced them through our complex musical universe. We want the fans to feel the music, and ride along with us on this musical journey through our dystopian planet.” adds the band.

An odyssey of hardship, betrayal, survival, and cosmic tales, “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” is recommended for fans of Septic Flesh, Gojira, and Fleshgod Apocalypse, and is available at the following links:

“Crushing Sci-Fi Death Metal” – Metal Injection

“Celebrating Sci-Fi Dystopia, and a Debut Album, with Voraath… We’ve made mention of Carolina’s cinematic sci-fi proggy death metal aliens Voraath in this space before… Well, they’re back with yet another Shudder/SyFy worthy, seemingly budget-busting work of dystopian video art. “The Leviathan’s Keep”” – Decibel Magazine

“Voraath‘s aim is to do more than record and release music. The music is part of a universe they’re creating, drawing upon elements of horror and science-fantasy, which includes significant visual as well as audio portrayals, including the band’s own presentation of themselves on stage — each member appears as a character in the lore of the music” – No Clean Singing

“The fact that the troupe is already so mature and professional on their debut, but also so passionate about it, may be due to the fact, that all musicians were previously employed in other projects. But it wasn’t until VORAATH that they obviously found the repository of their creativity and, completely surprisingly, created a small milestone with “Volume 1: Hymn Of The Hunters!” 9/10″ – PowerMetal.de

“Voraath’s “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” isn’t just an album; it’s a meticulously crafted portal into a nightmarish realm where each track unfolds a new chapter of struggle and revelation. With their blend of brutal aggression and melodic nuance, Voraath sets a new standard in storytelling, promising listeners an immersive experience that transcends genres and challenges the boundaries of a musical literary experience. Embrace the darkness and join the hunt—Voraath awaits, ready to lead you through their extreme metal multiverse with unparalleled intensity and imagination.” – Metal Lair

“Voraath‘s Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters is a meticulously crafted journey through a rich, dystopian world. The band’s ability to blend metal with intricate storytelling sets them apart, creating an immersive experience that is both brutal and thought-provoking. Voraath has set a high bar with their debut, promising even greater adventures in the metal multiverse they are meticulously crafting.” – Amplify The Noise

“this first Voraath album sends us into a cosmic epic” – Eklektik Rock

“The Barrens offers a blend of crushing riffs and distinctive soundscapes, delivering a unique cinematic soundtrack.” – Metal Insider

“US band Voraath are out with the album “Vol 1. The Hymn of the Hunters”, and this is a production that might well be of interest for fans of progressive metal. And a case could be argued for this album to be defined as extreme progressive metal too. Tight, form and hectic extreme metal is at the core of this album, with a handful or so of distorted lead vocals combining with hard and tight guitar and rhythm combinations as the core elements throughout…. An album for those who tend to enjoy a more sophisticated and dynamic variety of extreme metal that may possibly also be defined to reside inside of the extreme progressive metal tradition.” – Progressor

Sacramento, USA’s progressive metal outfit Lunar is set to release the lyric video for “Spring In My Step” to offer listeners another captivating glimpse into their upcoming concept album “Tempora Mutantur”, slated for release at the end of January 2025. The new release continues the band’s exploration of seasonal metaphors and personal transformation, promising a musical journey that blends intricate progressive metal with deeply introspective storytelling. Drummer Alex Bosson comments on the single:

“One of my personal favorite songs on the album. This song is more upbeat and about the good times we feel revitalized. When you’ve made it through a rough patch in your life and realize you’ve come out the other side. This song has some really fun moments musically and, I think, is one of the more “proggy” songs on this record.”

One of the more upbeat songs on the album, “Spring In My Step” delivers an awesome main riff and continues with positive melodies throughout. The track embodies the band’s approach to songwriting—creating music that is both technically complex and emotionally accessible, inviting listeners to find their own meanings within the layers of sound and lyrical metaphor.

The lyric video, along with the rest of the album, offers an emotional listening experience. Lots of ups and downs musically and lyrically dealing with the passing of time and the effects it has on us physically and mentally. Lunar is recommended for fans of Opeth, Caligula’s Horse, and Haken.

Founded by drummer Alex Bosson (Helion Prime, Planeswalker) and Ryan Erwin who passed away in 2018, LUNAR continues in his memory. This fourth full-length “Tempora Mutantur” follows 2023’s “The Illusionist” and features a fresh lineup with the addition of guitarists Carlos Alvarez and Connor McCray (Vis Mystica) along with keyboardist Anthony Stahl plus album guests Wayne Ingram (Wildrun), Joe Gullace (Thank You Scientist) and Sam Vallen (Caligula’s Horse).

A collaboration of musical minds, and with anything LUNAR does; “Tempora Mutantur” is an emotional thematic listening experience with ups and downs musically and lyrically dealing with the passing of time and the effects it has on us physically and mentally.

“This album deals with something everyone can relate to and no one can escape: the passing of time. We get older, our perspective changes, and we gain some things, and lose others… sometimes the things and ones we love. And we struggle and fight along the way. This album deals with some of the highs and lows we deal with along this journey we all share. Hopefully, the fans will be able to resonate with it and find some solace and aid in their own experiences of time passing. I believe the songwriting has gotten stronger over the years. I think the songs are a bit more well-structured. But I think the overall sound of the band has remained pretty consistent over the years. The music is very “prog,” so it’s been diverse I think from day 1. Probably even more so now than it was at first.” adds Bosson.

Recommended for fans of Opeth, Caligula’s Horse, Haken, Tool, and Porcupine Tree, LUNAR’s “Tempora Mutantur” is due out January 31, 2025, from Saibot Reigns Records.

“It’s really well done technically by a band that clearly cares about their music and can play.” – Rock The Joint Mag (The Illusionist 2023)

“If I had one word to describe this album, it would be this one: whirlwind… “The Illusionist” is an album that is living. From its jazzy highs to its heavy metal lows, this album is constantly on its toes, never repeating itself and never, ever growing complacent. A wonderful whirlwind indeed. 9/10” – Ever Metal

“I feel like Lunar has captured the balance between accessibility and technicality very well. I hear many of the same elements in their sound that, when employed well, make bands like Dream Theater, King Crimson, Voïvod and even Sigh so engaging. I love when an album comes out of nowhere (for me, anyway) and makes this much of an impression.” – The Metal Crypt

“As I said at the start, when I heard this album I was immediately grabbed by it. The story works nicely, it is very character based and features plenty of emotions which as a listener I certainly could relate to. The music is terrific with all the players putting in excellent performances and the instrumentation used in a clever way to match all that is going on with the lead character. There are moments of heavy prog as well as metal, but melody runs through the heart of it. The fact that some of the people in the band have never met or even been in the same room together is remarkable as it sounds like everyone was on the same hymn sheet and it doesn’t sound pieced together. That is a great credit to the writing, arranging as well as all the musicians doing their parts to the benefit of the whole piece. An absolutely delightful as well as enjoyable album.” – CGCM Rock Radio

“The concept is that there are songs that are angry, songs that are confused, songs that are depressing, and everywhere in between. Styles on the album run the gambit from Progressive Metal with melodic vocals, to moments of Jazz, to cookie monster Thrash…. The musicianship is solid on all of the parts, with some excellent performances, notably vocalist Chandler Mogel… it does warrant checking out for Prog-Metal fans that like a mix of growler and melodic vocals.” – Metal Express Radio

“The Illusionist again is at the highest level of the progsphere, Bosson’s continuation of the Lunar name, honouring his co-founder and friend, through the medium of progressive metal, is an advantageous endeavour. 9/10” – Musipedia of Metal

“Marble Ghosts’ latest single, “Distance Between,” is a relentless blast of punk-metal energy that sets the tone for their upcoming EP, The Greatest Divide (April 4th). The track showcases the band’s unique ability to fuse aggression and melody into a seamless and high-octane performance. From its rapid-fire verses to its towering choruses, “Distance Between” never loses its intensity. The song’s razor-sharp guitars anchor the chaos and deliver not one but two blistering solos that elevate the track’s raw power. Meanwhile, the desperate screams layered over the final crescendo inject a tangible urgency that drives home the song’s message about the fractures in modern society. The song’s technical precision and anthemic qualities plus the band’s punk edge keeps the energy raw and unfiltered, evoking a battle cry to confront the growing divides in the world around us. “Distance Between” and Marble Ghosts prove they’re not just pushing genre boundaries. They’re demolishing them.” – Amplify The Noise

“We have been patiently waiting for a new cut from heavy masters’ Marble Ghosts and they have delivered. The new single “Distance Between” lands today and it’s a special one. The first single to be released from their forthcoming album “The Greatest Divide” (April 4th), “Distance Between” accomplishes what every band hopes to…a monumental track that separates itself from everything else. Driving riffs, top tier vocals, a punchy rhythm section and of course solo breaks that just take flight – Marble Ghosts are back and we’re thrilled they exceeded our ridiculously unfair expectations! Catch it on your Home for the Best New Rock… W-J-O-EEEE” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll

“Their sound is a unique blend of soft underscoring elements and heavy riffs.” – Decibel Magazine

“When a band is said to be for fans of Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace, this puts a lot of pressure on that band to live up to expectations, especially those of lifelong fan of all of those acts. However, Canadian’s Marble Ghosts have produced quite an exciting debut EP that’s made up of a mix of metal genres from metalcore and grunge to death metal. ‘Lie To Me’ has a heavy bass line intro before thick guitar riffs join in. This intensity is matched by the vocals, which seem to be drenched in emotion and this is what makes it a real must listen on the EP. Whilst the lyrics themselves don’t vary much, they don’t need to, because it feels like this track is about putting across a certain atmosphere rather than writing an epic tale. The band do delve into the political in ‘False Heroes’, where they question outdated thinking with such lines as “boys will be boys, all the while accompanied by an unsettling melody in a minor key. They use their own country’s history to influence this song, which the EP artwork and the band’s name are all linking together. 8/10” Powerplay Magazine UK

“End Of The World completes the EP and no lie instantly had us drooling with its air of nagging menace veined by swarthy guitar lures and a tension of creative distraction, an imposing coaxing soon evolving into a full incitement of animated temptation and keen adventure. Grabbing favourite track honours in its greedy fists, the song prowled like a predator and roared with punk dissidence, aligning both to melodic and sonic drama.” – Ring Master Reviews

“Now we have reached our last mention, my number one recommendation for this week’s list of incredible new music from this website of ours. They have recently just emerged on the metal scene with a distinctive sound. I am talking about the Ottawa-based band Marble Ghosts. Unveiling their self-titled EP, showcasing five compelling songs that you can hear across all streaming platforms now.” – ZACH’S PICKS OF THE WEEK – MARCH 4 TO MARCH 9, 2024 – #1 Marble Ghosts – Canadian Beats

“Marble Ghosts deliver a visceral finale with “End of the World.” Reflecting a generation’s disillusionment with the idea of meaningful change and the realisation that their actions may have little impact, the song captures the band’s uncompromising attitude with distinct vocals and a cacophony of heavy and glorious sound. Marble Ghosts, the band and EP, defies hard rock stereotypes and delivers music that reminds us that it’s not all sex drugs and rock-n-roll, but sometimes it’s get up, stand up, rise up, and make the difference you seek.” – Amplify The Noise

“This band is ultra-impressive with razor sharp hard rock, soaring vocals and superior song writing that really makes one stop and take notice of their greatness.” –  WJOE- Findlay’s Home for Rock and Roll

“C’est propre et même chiadé, peut être un peu trop à mon goût : il ne faut pas chercher ici un hard rock écrit au feeling la clope au bec et la bière, désaltérant plus qu’il ne faut ses auteurs ! On est sur une musique qui tient plus de groupes comme Breaking Benjamin ou encore Three Days Grace qu’autre chose.” –  SoilChronicles

“Fans of 2000’s era hard rock, especially those who were listening to that music during the time period itself, will get the most out of Marble Ghosts’ self-titled debut EP. It’s not impossible to imagine a scenario where Breaking Benjamin, hot off the release of We Are Not Alone, would take this group out as an opening act. Same goes for someone like Alter Bridge when One Day Remains exploded off the success of single “Open Your Eyes.” –  Heavy Music HQ

Describe The EP Artwork (answered by  Dylan Gunnell)

The Greatest Divide artwork- by Edith Fluet

Edith’s incredible artwork depicts a chasm, representing the growing and massive divide between people who share vastly different political, moral and religious beliefs. It is the type of divide that has splintered friendships and even families. The light is a beacon, an olive branch- a shred of hope that a divided world can find some commonality, some understanding of each other to build something better.

The gap is also representative of the incredible amount of work it would take to cross such a canyon, to be able to even have any discourse at all with the other side. The light burns away the old self, allowing for mutual understanding, but only the bravest among us can take the leap. And unfortunately, few ever will, only adding to the ever-widening divide.

While this seems bleak, some of the stories told through the lyrics are inspired by people who have crossed the greatest divide. But this wasn’t without hardship, as it was often the threat of losing their loved ones, their mental health and even their own identity that forced the change.

About The EP (answered by  Dylan Gunnell)

From the opening lyric of the EP, “Here we are in the greatest divide”, the songs explore the ever-growing rift between almost every part of modern-day society. From the rich and the shrinking middle class to widening gaps in political and religious ideologies, the EP was inspired by our reality.

For fans that have had our first EP on repeat, they will be getting more of the same, so they should really enjoy it. There are more guitar solos on this EP (one in each song!) and the same massive catchy choruses. Fans will also appreciate how different each song is, but still very much in the Marble Ghosts style.

Track By Track   (answered by Dylan Gunnell)

1. Distance Between (1st single)

After writing the riff, Adam realized it was hard to play because of how much he had to stretch to reach the frets. He called it the ‘Distance Between’. Dylan took this to mean something else entirely though.

With the lyric “Here we are in the greatest divide”, ‘Distance Between’ relays the central theme of the EP, which is the widening gap between people who share vastly different political, moral and religious beliefs. It is the type of divide that has splintered friendships and even families. The light is a beacon, an olive branch- a shred of hope that a divided world can find some commonality, some understanding of each other to build something better.

The ‘Distance Between’ is also representative of the incredible amount of work it would take to cross such a canyon, to be able to even have any discourse at all with the other side, especially as each side grows more and more polarizing in their views. From housing as a human right to children of rape having to give birth to children, with every step we move away from each other without talking, the harder it is to cross the greatest divide.

Musically: With punk-metal roots, ‘Distance Between’ is a song that never stops from beginning to the end. The biting rapid-fire verses meet the band’s characteristic soaring choruses. The band shows off its guitar chops with a blistering solo that perfectly matches the song’s energy. The song crescendos with another feverish solo over top desperate screams.

2. Eat the Rich

While the song’s chorus evokes extreme imagery and particularly violence, ‘Eat the Rich’ is entirely tongue in cheek. It in no way condones violence against anyone and instead paints the picture of two massively divergent groups- the people who are struggling to hold on, the ones staying in broken, abusive relationships just to avoid being homeless and increasingly out of touch billionaires who could affect real, meaningful change with their bank accounts. Instead, the ultra-wealthy constantly seek more and more ways to enrich themselves. This song is about them, and the great divide is clear with every billion added to their coffers while the people that enrich them through a broken system continue to suffer.

While the chorus is metaphorical, in writing the lyrics, the band also envisioned an alternate reality where our planet has been devastated by a zombie plague. The ultra-rich are waiting for a shuttle to carry them to Mars, but it malfunctions, and they are trapped. The undead descend on them, and they are torn to pieces by the horde, the horde that once worked for them, that kept capitalism strong, the people that made them rich. In that reality, their fair share will be paid with a pound of their own flesh.

Musically: In ‘Eat the Rich’, a droning bass mixes with soft yet acidic vocals in the verses. The long-held scream in the chorus gives way to harmony that grows increasingly layered as the song evolves, creating the perfect contrast. The dirty guitar solo blends into mocking laughter and then powers through into a final chorus with three-part harmonies.

3. Trafficked (The Devil Inside)

The lyrics and pieces were brought by Paul (bassist). He wanted to write a song that flowed musically in the same way as “Alone” from our first EP. The song is inspired by human behaviour and how inherently cruel, and sadistic our species can be. It’s basically a story about how our worst fears can come true- a child disappears and is never found.

In reality, some of these missing children are circulated in human trafficking rings, and they are subjected to the most horrific conditions. The song details the plight of one of these children, capturing how the child is being broken physically and emotionally but at the same time, there is a singular voice in the night, asking for the child to have courage and show strength- that there will be someone to bring them home. The great divide for most is to simply acknowledge that this shadowy problem exists. The song aims to create awareness to fight this vile practice that is quickly becoming a global pandemic.

Musically: Featuring one of the band’s signature ear worm guitar riffs and as close to a pop chorus as the band will likely ever get, Trafficked’ would be radio friendly except for the disturbing and dark lyrics.

4. Gloom

Like other songs on the EP, again, this one received its title from Adam, but this time it was about the mood he felt when writing the riff. Melancholic and disturbing, ‘Gloom’ was inspired by Paris Hilton, and specifically, her experience attending and escaping from various troubled teen camps that abused children, some of which still exist today. But it is also inspired by the thousands of children who had their innocence stripped away as they were kidnapped at the request of their parents and dragged sometimes thousands of miles away.

Many of these children became addicts as adults, and unfortunately, many of them took their lives. The great divide plays out in this song with the rift established between parent and child and what it will take for some of them to bridge that gap. For the parents, many of them may not have realized the camps were as bad as they were and may not have realized the real lasting damage they would do. The guilt for some and in some cases denial, creates the gap, while for their children, now adults, forgiveness does not come easily. Again, thankfully, some of these families have taken the leap and breached the greatest divide.

Musically: Eerie, atmospheric and easily the most diverse track on the EP from verse to verse, Gloom features a chorus that chills even the vocalist.

5. Osmium

As Adam was writing the riff for the song, easily the heaviest of the EP, he thought of ‘Osmium’, the heaviest metal. The song also has equally heavy subject matter. Inspired by the challenges faced by someone close to lead singer Dylan Gunnell, the lyrics delve into what happens when a family chooses who someone must be. While being gay isn’t a political or moral stance and certainly not a choice, families every day make 2SLGBTQ+ people choose between who they want to be and who their families believe they should be.

Daughter/son/straight- our children are rarely perfect mirrors of us, and no matter how much someone ‘prays away the gay’, it won’t change the fundamental aspects of a person. Unfortunately, some families learn this the hard way. For the person close to Dylan, thankfully, the story had a happy ending, but it took the threat of losing them to make the family cross the greatest divide.

Musically: The last track on the EP and without question the heaviest, ‘Osmium’ starts a pit at every show. While the verses have a weighty power behind them, the choruses are typical of the Marble Ghosts style with a catchy sing-along quality. The song is also the most metal sounding on the EP, evidenced by the rapid-fire shredding solo that starts with an old school dive bomb.

Emerging in 2023 onto the Canadian metal scene with a distinctive sound and a fierce commitment to challenging societal norms, Ottawa, ON’s Marble Ghosts is metal with a message. The socially conscious band is back in 2025 with their sophomore EP “The Greatest Divide” a year after their debut self-titled EP released in March 2024.

Comprising a dynamic lineup that uniquely blends genres, generations, and now cultures, featuring a death metal drummer, a grunge-influenced singer, a metalcore guitar player, and newly added Brazilian transplant, bassist Paulo Ferraz, who joined after the writing and recording of The Greatest Divide. Ferraz knits into the live lineup for added rhythm, depth, and an extremely energetic stage presence, adding to an already established eclectic mix and a band with a commitment to break musical boundaries and grow their foundation.

Their second EP, “The Greatest Divide” (releasing April 2025) is inspired by our reality, from the ultra-rich and the shrinking middle class to widening gaps in political and religious ideologies that are beginning to challenge and even erode fundamental human rights. Similar to their first EP these next five songs in their catalog highlight their diverse influences and styles and seek to lift up the marginalized through powerful messaging.

“For fans that have had our first EP on repeat, they will be getting more of the same, so they should really enjoy it. There are more guitar solos on this EP (one in each song!) and the same massive catchy choruses. Fans will also appreciate how different each song is, but still very much in the Marble Ghosts style.” says vocalist Dylan Gunnell.

With this release, the band asks, “Are you ready to cross the greatest divide?” It is the type of divide that has splintered friendships and even families, where viewpoints differ so greatly, that we can see one another as enemies- traitors. While this seems bleak, some of the stories told through the lyrics are inspired by people who have crossed the greatest divide. But this wasn’t without hardship, as it was often the threat of losing their loved ones, their mental health, and even their own identity that forced the change.

Their music is recommended for fans of Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, Saint Asonia, and Three Days Grace.

Marble Ghosts’ sophomore EP “The Greatest Divide” is out on May 23, 2025.

“The record is just killer, full of menacing death metal that doesn’t lean too hard into the old- or new-school sound; think a crossbreed of Book of Black Earth, Deicide, and Fleshgod Apocalypse sans opera, and you’ll have some idea of what these guys are like. Modern death metal fans will love the band’s technicality and production, while classic headbangers will dig their atmosphere and badass riffs. Definitely get into them.” – Metalsucks (Aenigmata  – 2016)

“Aenigmata is the band’s latest release, a merciless, destructive Death Metal album in its finest form. Inspired by the occult writings of Alchemy and the dissection of the faith in mankind, the album delivers much darkened and more ferocious sounds than the previous releases. Having a close kinship with bands like Morbid Angel, Immolation, Nile, Behemoth, Krisiun, Dead Congregation and the likes in terms of sonority, the opus is a perfect blending of unilluminated Traditional Death Metal & remorseless Brutal/Technical Death Metal.  The 09 tracked album is likely to be embraced by the fans of OSDM & Dark Themed  Technical Death Metal.” – Extreminal (Aenigmata  – 2016)

“The Hungarians from Sinf Of God play high-energy death metal, and when their riffs hit our eardrums, you get the impression that Attila himself is leading the wild hordes, leaving behind fields of destruction strewn with the corpses of enemies.” – KVLT (Aenigmata  – 2016)

“There’s very little to complain about “Aenigmata”, it sounds damn good, both from a musical and production perspective. The songs are varied and technical and it took a few spins for the record to settle but that normally is a good thing as it grows for each spin… it’s a solid Death Metal record and with this, I should go easily to it when digging out Brutal music.” – Metal Kaoz – (Aenigmata  – 2016)

About The Album Artwork:

It is metaphorically based on humanity’s current state in the light of human history. We wanted it to be realized in the style of Renaissance paintings therefore the contrast is extremely sharp between beauty and uglyness. Pure and evil. Perfect and deformed. Obviously, there are religious references, and Biblical characters, too.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Blood Bound both lyrically and musically resonates with our present society. We are in decline and we haven’t got much time before we hit the bottom. There is less and less beauty in our present world. We are rapidly marching towards the rotting chaos. People do nothing about it. They destroy but do not build. So let it be!

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

Blood Bound:
A pair of brothers who were separated in their childhood and were tormented, but after getting over their anger, they try to rule together again, but in the end they go crazy.

Black Waves:
An apocalyptic world created by the human mind from which there is no escape and the black waves of depression will forever engulf you.

No Return:
A person who cannot get rid of drugs and sacrifices everything is going to hell.

The Unbelief:
The story of a queen who refused the power of the gods. As punishment, one of the gods cursed her and drove her insane. She even killed her own child for her joy.

Diabolical Agitation:
At the temptation of the lord of hell, even the most pure-hearted virgin can join the power of darkness becoming the mistress of hell herself.

Obulus:
The hunger for money and its uselessness after death. After all, only the burial coin has value as payment for death.

Cerebral Malfunction:
The struggle with schizophrenia, at the end of which the original personality is lost forever and replaced by an evil one.

Fun Facts – Story Angles

1. In ancient times, Sin Of God performed together in a concert series with the band Farcry. After the performance, a guy came up to us and said: We came here with our band to laugh at you guys, we thought you were crap but you put on such a brutally good show!” This arrogant guy was Tamás Kis, the current guitarist of Sin Of God. Well, yes, we conquer everything and everyone!

2. When recording Aenigmata, one of the members at the time had a definite idea about the guitar sound. „It has to be raw and muddy!” – he said. The only problem was that everyone else thought the guitars sounded like crap that way. Since he had a reputation for being rather sudden in nature, we had to devise some ruse instead of open confrontation. We tricked our man into the pastry shop and had a good time while the guitarist secretly re-recorded the guitar tracks in the studio. By the time we got back, all the tracks had been replaced. Do you think he noticed the change? Let’s just say that the new guitars can be heard on the album. 😀

3. The following story is also connected to the recordings of Aenigmata. Our accommodation was in the studio. The sound engineer just got engaged to his classy girlfriend, who was also in the room where we were, for a very, very long time. The romantic nature of the story was enhanced by the fact that our guitarist at the time got gassy that very evening and farted all night. We must have made a lasting impression on the little lady!

In the spring of 2004, the band was born. After a few small concerts and recorded demos, we prepared the Satan Embryo EP in 2009, with which we were able to step up and do many foreign concerts. In 2012, our first album, entitled Limbus was released. There were many conterts to come with big names and we were able to play at prestigious festivals abroad. Aenigmata was published in 2016, which brought another step up. It recieved highly positive reviews from all over the world. After tours and foreign festivals, we started writing the third album, however, the process stopped due to member changes. We started working on Blood Bound in 2019 with the new members, but due to Covid, the goal could only be to write the album, but there were no point in playing concerts. This led to member changes again. We finally were able to record our new full-length, Blood Bound in 2022-23. The mixing and mastering processes were done in 2024 by the super-talented Sam Winslow. The outcome is a blast! We are ready to show the world what creative death metal is!
