NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 29, 2018

For fans of Kamelot, Kataonia, Type O Negative, Dimmu Borgir, Paradise Lost

Rockshots Records: Canadian Horror Band MALACODA Premiere Video “Mannequin Heart” via Rue Morgue

New Album “Restless Dreams” Out October 2018

L-R: Tiny Basstank – Bass, Lucas Di Mascio – Vocals, Vlad Prokhorov – Drums, Mick D Kiss – Guitar

Following the release of their 2017 EP “Ritualis Aeterna”, Canadian horror inspired symphonic power metallers MALACODA will be unleashing a new full length album entitled “Restless Dreams” via ROCKSHOTS RECORDS on October 19th in North America and October 26th in Europe. The album delivers a full musical experience inspired by the horror video game “Silent Hill 2”. MALACODA first introduced their fans to the “Silent Hill 2” storyline with the track “I Got A Letter“, which was featured on the band’s sophomore release “Ritualis Aeterna”.

Teaming up with horror magazine Rue Morgue, MALACODA is ready to shock fans with their music video for their first single “Mannequin Heart” off the upcoming album.

Check it out at the following link: https://rue-morgue.com/video-premiere-silent-hill-2-video-game-inspired-music-video-by-malacoda/

The single is also available for stream and download on Spotify and iTunes.

Inspired by the horror video game “Silent Hill 2”, “Restless Dreams” is a musical journey through dark tormented themes of doubt, loss, guilt and terror. The plot of the album follows a broken man’s journey through the ghost town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his dead wife asking him to meet her there. MALACODA brings a fresh interpretation of these themes and artfully bring to life the oppressive, claustrophobic aura of the fog consumed town with deviously clever song-writing and mind-catching lyrics. “Restless Dreams” is a musical release unlike any other. Fans and new listeners alike, prepare for an atmospheric and melodic metal descent into a world of horror and despair. “Restless Dreams” was masterfully mixed by Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Imonolith).

About:
Taking their name from a demon from Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’, Malacoda’s visceral, gothic vision is indeed divine but no laughing matter.

Having worked in the music industry for a decade and feeling less than inspired by the overabundance of local thrash and death metal, Malacoda was originally intended to just be Lucas Di Mascio’s recording project. Inspired musically by Type O Negative, Katatonia and Paradise Lost, he wanted an outlet for his dark yet romantic musical ideas. He didn’t expect it to get as far as it has, now as 4 piece band with Vlad Prokhorov (drums), Mickey D Kiss (guitarist), Tiny Basstank (bass) in the ranks they continue to paint horrific and beautiful soundscapes. Malacoda has two albums, “Malacoda” (2014), and “Ritualis Aeterna” (2016), in their archives with a darker, more raw Silent Hill inspired concept album “Restless Dreams” set to be released in October 2018.

Vocalist and composer Lucas, who studied Literature and Religion at University, explains: ‘The reason why I chose Malacoda as a band name was for a few reasons. The book, Dante’s Inferno, was a big influence on me as a teenager and young adult. It’s a very powerful piece of literature. I knew I wanted something from that book as a band name, and it’s one of the many names in the book that lent itself to interesting imagery- when you hear “Malacoda” it doesn’t sound like the name of a demon, it sounds like something more elegant and mysterious than horrifying. I wanted a powerful name that fit not only the sound of the band but also the lyrical themes I touch upon. The idea behind the band has always been to “find the beauty within horror”, and I think Malacoda suits that idea.”

Like the ‘Inferno’ that inspired their name they forge metal without limits in sonic shapes endless and horrifying in equal measure. Malacoda’s music vision shares much in common with Dante’s, they are unafraid to gaze into the abyss, unafraid to be inspired by the myriad of human horrors within and without. They are not blind to the worlds within them waiting to be born. Full of dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century, intelligence and intensity to rival that of their infernal inspirations!

“‘Penny Dreadful’ starts off this 25-minute six track EP and from the off, it feel like the influences of old Hammer Horror movies are rife across all elements of the music. Dark, foreboding and with lyrics to enjoy as well as unsettle, Malacoda have done a good job in the atmospheric storytelling department.” – Powerplay Mag UK

“These sixs track are loaded with immersive tempos, excellent guitar play and plenty of keyboard sounds. The end result reminds me of something between Dimmu Borgir, Nightfall, Moonspell and Kamelot, which obviously means that this music is epic as hell. My favorite track is ‘I Got A Letter’ but there’s a lot of gothic goodness to be found on this thing.” – Merchants of Air

“It’s funny how I started listening to this EP straight after reviewing the excellent Devilment Album by Dani Filth and his cohorts , these guys would fit in perfectly with the Cradle of Filth front mans  merry band of Gothic themed demons live and would be an awesome addition to any Devilment / Cradle of Filth tour!” – The Metal Gods Meltdown

“an intoxicating blend of dark, melodic metal on this six track EP Ritualis Aeterna…25 minutes of gothic metal that is morose while melodic, as well as cinematic in terms of presentation and execution.” – Dead Rhetoric

Purest Of Pain has delivered a quite impressive debut album with “Solipsis”. A blend of classic Gothenburg melodic death metal very much in the veins of Dark Tranquility with metalcore (breakdowns!) and often proggy to even djent sounding riffage and you pretty much get the gist of what they sound like. It maybe isn’t the most original sound, but with a certain quality to it that’ll keep you having fun and captivated!

Plus the single is available for stream and download on iTunes, Spotify and Google Play.

“On Crooked Stones” was mixed and mastered at Impact Studios by Buster Odeholm (Born of Osiris, Sworn In, Humanity’s Last Breath, etc.) with additional production from the late George Christie also from Impact Studios.

BIO:

“Where there’s a will there’s a way”

This is the mentality of the 5-piece modern metalcore band ATLAS, hailing from Nokia, Finland who are more than determined to make an impact on the genre. Labeling their sound as ’’NORTHCORE’ the band released a critically acclaimed debut EP “Northern Lights” in 2016.

After 6 years of hard work, the band has found its firm lineup with members who have dedicated themselves and their lives to the music. In that half a decade, the band’s sound has developed and matured to the point where it is now a truly unique mixture of different genres and sounds.

“Our main influences vary from contemporary metal giants such as Architects and Bring Me The Horizon to rap, pop and ambient music that make our sound a mix of heavy hitting riffs paired with catchy melodies and immersive soundscapes. Outside music we draw inspiration from the northern gloom of Finland which bleeds into the music giving our band a cold and harsh sound’’ says guitarist Tuomas Kurikka.

The band has played around Northern Europe with bands such as Adept, Eskimo Callboy, One Morning Left and We Butter The Bread With Butter. They are stocked to finally be releasing their first full length album “Primitive” on November 16th, 2018 via Invers Records.

The band released two music videos in support of “Speak True Evil” that can be viewed at the following links:

Sky On Fire – https://youtu.be/UQXrxpkQlYU

Apex Predator – https://youtu.be/2KgvrJkcqUc

The EP features four tracks showcasing the band intertwining the accessibility of rock, the technicality of prog, and the energy of hardcore. Through intelligent songwriting, creative guitar work, and emotional intensity, they meld dynamic, bold, bewitching sounds to create no holds barred rock.

The band comments about the EP:

“Speak True Evil is a showcase for Kill No Albatross’ dynamic, technically proficient, intellectual approach to rock music. These four songs cover musical ground that ranges from furious to sweet, hopeful to agonized. The powerful vocals of Kyle Collins pair with the tight, impassioned instrumentation to create a unique sound that is as meticulous as it is robust. Going more in depth on the release, it plays off the title of Wayne Shorter’s 1966 jazz record “Speak No Evil”; “Speak True Evil” asserts the legitimacy of free speech as asserted by thinkers like Mill, Paine, Luxemburg, and Hitchens. As Mill writes, ‘If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.’ After all, it is as much the right of the listener to hear as it is the speaker to talk – enforced silence imprisons man in the cage of his own perspective. The title, then, encourages listeners to speak true evil.”

“Kill No Albatross combines many styles of rock and metal to create something fairly unique, as elements of everyone from Big Wreck and Alter Bridge pop in, but so do Deftones and even Fightstar. If this new track (Apex Predator) is any indication, it appears Kill No Albatross are branching out in unique directions once again.” – New Fury Media

“Speak True Evil will leave the listener satiated with its blend of genres and expertly crafted flow… Speak True Evil is a sign that rock’s not dead, it’s just gotten more diverse.” – Monkey Goose Magazine

“Playing songs from their impressive ep Speak True Evil, the band was too much for the Café Dekcuf stage. Guitarist Josh Pinkey refused to be limited by the stage and took off into the crowd choosing instead to play onto amps or wherever he could to try and engage the crowd.” – Splice Magazine (Ottawa TechFest)

“‘Speak True Evil’, the new E.P from Canadian alt-rockers Kill No Albatross, is a snapshot of a band on the rise. Mixing elements of prog, rock and alternative metal music, the E.P. is a perfect entry point for listeners looking for a fresh take on the genre.” – Happy Metal Geek

“Straddling that line between hard rock and metal can be a tough proposition but it can be done. This is where Kill No Albatross find their sound but they bring an alternative slant to the table to tone the metal side down and make it one cohesive sound rather than two horses pulling in opposite directions.” – Moshville Times
