Toronto’s Derev announces they will hit the road for dates in Ontario and Quebec over the forthcoming months. The show dates will support their first full-length “Troubled Mind” out on March 26th, 2025 (dates listed below).

Derev recently unveiled their latest single “Cyclone” a dynamic exploration of inner turmoil and redemption that showcases the band’s evolution while staying true to their signature sound. The track follows their earlier single “Room 9”. The band comments on the lyrical content:

“Building on the narrative, this song revolves around the negative thoughts that plague our minds, constantly reminding us of our perceived unworthiness and shortcomings. This mental state, “Imposter Syndrome” makes us doubt our skills and successes, leaving us feeling unworthy, ashamed, and fearful of being exposed.”

“Cyclone” demonstrates Derev‘s masterful blend of technical prowess and emotional depth, featuring intricate instrumentation that builds from a tension-filled atmosphere to a captivating climax. The song opens with a haunting guitar riff that gradually intensifies as layers of bass and drums create an underlying sense of unrest. This tension ultimately gives way to a soaring, heartwarming guitar solo that brings a moment of clarity before concluding with a memorable cliffhanger riff.

The metal world is now “Blood Bound” with the release of Hungary’s SIN OF GOD‘s fourth studio album from Exitus Stratagem Records. With influences in thrash, ODM, and blackened and progressive death metal, Sin of God‘s sacrificial offering “Blood Bound” will please both old and new-school death metal fans at the same time. Featuring headliner Boston’s PowerGlove, the very beloved instrumental power metal cover band will present a night of nostalgic tributes to retro video game and television themes. The band released their latest EP “The Super Smash Bros” in August 2024.

They are joined by the Pacific Northwest’s Glyph, which is not just a heavy metal band, they are a crew of intergalactic mercenaries escaping a dying planet in their spaceship, the VSS Dragonlord. Clearly, Glyph isn’t just writing songs, they’re building worlds and they bring it forth in their latest album “Honor, Power, Glory” released in March 2024.

Formed in 2020 during a time in which plague stalked the land and time lost all meaning, the core of Owlbear is comprised of North American scene veterans Katheryn Scary (vocals), Jeff Taft (guitars), and Leona Hayward (bass), all of whom hail from different corners of the continent. The band made their live debut at the sold-out Legions of Metal festival in Chicago in 2024 in support of their debut album “Chaos to the Realm” (2023) (Alone Records). Musically, Owlbear draws influence from classic heavy and speed metal and roots their lyrics in the media its members love, from the famous roleplaying game that inspired the band’s namesake to the Final Fantasy franchise. Dynamic vocals, frenetic riffing, and bass that are equal parts pummeling and acrobatic drive the band’s relentless approach, and with the imminent release of their sophomore album “Feather & Claw” on February 28th, 2025 via Alone Records, Owlbear aims to continue to carve out its niche within the heavy metal community with a savage swipe of a plumed talon.

Hailing from Philadelphia, Empress is a symphonic power metal quintet that loves weaving grand tales over catchy and triumphant symphonic soundscapes. Their critically acclaimed debut album, titled “Fateweaver” released in August 2022, which renowned mixing and mastering engineer Dan Swanö has characterized as one of his best works in melodic metal, carefully entwines musical universes and invites you to follow your imagination and fantasy. Among Empress’ remarked past live performances, it is worth mentioning their album release show at Mad With Power Fest in Madison, WI, on the release day of “Fateweaver”, as well as having shared the stage with bands such as Oceans of Slumber, Seven Spires, and Grim Reaper on their journey to conquering the symphonic metal stronghold with sophistication.

Trekking from the Canadian North, Ottawa’s Lycanthro encapsulates a heavy, yet melodic sound, that is drawn from influences of both European/American classic power and thrash metal along with high howling vocals, piercing guitars, a booming rhythm section as well as uses of instruments such as piano and classical guitar to forge a powerful sound. Fans be prepared for an energetic and epic stage presence as they take you on their lyrical journey of classic horror and mythology. They recently released their new single “Iris”, which will be featured on their upcoming 2025 album “Remnants of Rapture”. The single was mixed/mastered by Damien Rainaud (Dragonforce / Once Human) and features a keyboard solo from Arttu Vauhkonen (Arion).

Local hometown heroes, Denver’s Celestial Wizard brings a mix of fantasy and heavy metal to the table, giving you a front-row seat to a sci-fi experience unlike any other! The band has been blazing new trails with their aggressive, powerful sound. Pulling from both power metal and death metal, they achieve a melodic, high-intensity mix that hits just right. Their sophomore album ‘Winds of the Cosmos’ showcases just that, as they deliver hard-driving riffs paired with aggressive, death metal-styled vocals. ‘Winds of the Cosmos’ is a metal monster in a league all its own!

Also supporting the lineup will be Denver’s blackened pagan power metal Oak, Ash & Thorn who released their latest album “Our Grief Is Thus” in April 2024 on Lost Future Records. Now, Oak, Ash & Thorn are taking the next step in their journey by signing with Season of Mist. The Mile High Power Festival, Denver’s only power metal festival was derived from the creative mind of Soren Bray. The idea was born after a night of celebration with his band, Celestial Wizard while attending the HyperSpace Festival in Vancouver, Canada. It was then that Soren realized the U.S. had only a handful of power metal festivals—and none near his home in Denver. Partnering with Lucy, owner of Bitesize Productions LLC, Soren teamed up to turn this dream into a reality. About the SINGLE (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Musically “Subserviate and Decay” is the classical Art of Attrition. Relentless, melodic, and chaotic, and THEN it goes into a very different feel right after the bridge breakdown. This is where experimented musically. We felt it was a great time to showcase more of Josh and try and connect with the fans on a lyrical level. The ending is also a remnant of the AOA song structure in terms of melody. It ends very nicely.

Lyrically: SUBSERVIATE AND DECAY LYRIC SYNOPSIS

Sometimes the exchange of love and affection can become dangerously unhealthy. It can be addictive, it can blur our vision, and it can take us off of the paths we need to be on. It can be very painful. Sometimes, the reward is worth it. Other times, it may not be.

“Subserviate and Decay” is a visceral recollection of that feeling, serving as a reminder of the necessity of internal self-love and confidence.

2. Fun Fact: Josh has his tonsils removed which makes his vocals very unique!

3. We were on our way to play Grande Prairie when our Alternator failed AGAIN outside Whitecourt. Thankfully, Greg’s parents live there and delivered a new one. We were able to change it out on the side of the highway.

4. We played a massive Sold-out show in Edmonton that was so much fun! A big shoutout to Tyson from Concertworks for having us.

5. Loud as Hell 2024. Geoff was in a pinch AGAIN as Vitriol and Thantifaxath had dropped off the fest. He needed a support band for the night Beyond Creation played and we made it happen as we were on a short run with Angelmaker and I Declare War.

6. STORY: We did not get our Visas in time for our West Coast American dates, so we just drove to the border and pleaded our case, showed the paperwork we sent off and ended up being able to cross! P2 regular processing is taking more than 6 MONTHS to process. It’s only going to get more difficult for international bands to tour the U.S.

Art of Attrition is a Canadian Deathcore band from Red Deer, Alberta. Formed in 2019, the group consists of vocalist Josh Hahn, guitarists Jack Sutherland and Johnny Vander Roest, and drummer Greg Smith. The band is considered a significant member of the Alberta Deathcore scene.

Since their formation, Art of Attrition has released 1 studio album and 1 studio E.P; their most recent release, “…And It Will All End Forever” was released on July 2024. The band has also released 3 Music Videos, 4 Singles, and many playthroughs.

Art of Attrition is a band that redevelops “the typical” deathcore sound by delivering aggression with melody, atmosphere with intricacy, and brutality with technicality. Combining ferocious work ethic with refined musicality, their songs challenge the notion that deathcore cannot evolve or be unique. State of Mind, the Texas-based heavy metal outfit known for its powerful blend of classic metal and raw emotion, has recently released its second EP “Sanity of Madness” on February 7, 2025, via Self-Made Records with distribution from Earache Records. The six-track collection arrives as a testament to the band’s evolution since their formation in 1994, showcasing their signature combination of thunderous anthems and introspective songwriting. They comment on their expectation for the reception of the album:

“We think it will be received well. It’s got a raw human unpolished sound to it that you don’t get anymore. We decided not to put too much polish on it and leave it raw and authentic. We wanted that human, dirty sound. Like the good ole days of hella concerts. It’s like all of our influences came together and showed us the path we needed to take. There are so many storylines in this EP; it’s epic how they all fit together”

“Sanity of Madness” builds on the momentum of their 2022 singles “Shattered” and “Fall Away,” and their self-titled 2019 debut. Canadian aggro-metal troupe CHÜZO has a knock-out music video that is sure to leave you “Bruised and Broken”. The video is in support of the Montreal band’s latest EP “M.T.M.D (Maximum Threshold, Minimum Decay)” produced with Kevin Jardine (Slaves On Dope, Uplift Recording Studio), and unleashed this past October.

“This track is about being pushed, provoked, and instigated to the point of no return. When in life one encounters certain individuals whose existence is to only make you angry and enraged; to bully you and disrespect you beyond aggravation, and the inevitable result that losing your temper and seeing red does to the individual being provoked and instigated is what this track is about. The utter destruction and devastation that awaits the foolish person who dares to provoke a person who has been pushed to the edge of human insanity; fuck around and find out!” adds the band.

CHÜZO‘s new lineup features the ensnaring vocals of Taiwanese Brazilian transplant Mischa M joining local first-generation Chilean Canadian and mastermind Cristian S. along with Carlos G from Venezuela and Alex S from Russia who all have found Montreal, Canada to be their home-to-breed their blender of grindcore, Swedish death metal, thrash, and hardcore punk to transform a sub-genre dubbed ‘Aggro Metal’.

The EP’s lyrics are driven by self-reflection and daily struggles. The inspiration for writing comes from life experiences and trying to live past them, especially the traumatic ones. Using all bad energy from bad experiences to create something positive for yourself and the world. Montreal, Canada’s heavy metal powerhouse Mad Parish presents their new music video for “An Age To Quell”. This latest offering is from their recently released progressive metal concept album “The Dust Of Forever” that continues to showcase the band’s musical prowess and storytelling abilities. The band comments on the musical side of the track:

“A little more on the Power Metal side of things, this is an uptempo tune with a galloping intro, double bass drum verses, and a catchy pop-style vocal melody in the chorus. The guitar riffs are very well crafted (the opening riff is about as catchy as a riff could be). Probably the most ‘Pop’ style song on the album, one of our favorites.”

Representing another crucial chapter in the album’s narrative, “An Age To Quell” further immerses listeners in the epic tale of immortality and universal peril. The track exemplifies Mad Parish‘s signature blend of NWOBHM-inspired riffs, progressive structures, and arena-ready choruses.
