In anticipation of their second EP “La Foi, La Loi, La Croix” ready for the world on May 31, 2019, Montreal’s THRASH LA REINE is releasing their single “Du Sang Sur Les Plaines”.
Not taking themselves too seriously, they describe themselves as Francophone satirical epic thrash, but ultimately let the audience decide where they fit in in the metal scene. Focusing on telling a story with each track and paying close attention to the song structure and how the listener will be escorted through each thrasher. Exclusively in French and following their 2017 EP “Le Metal Est Notre Langue”, the band opens up about their sound on their 2019 follow up “La Foi, La Loi, La Croix”:
“We’re not reinventing anything, but at the same time, we think we’re offering something that sounds new and refreshing. The EP has a good variety of songs. Some songs are faster, some are more mid-tempo. Overall, we have really fast and quick songs and also more epic songs that are almost nine minutes long.”
With obvious musical influences from the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden and Iced Earth, THRASH LA REINE take lyrical inspiration from current events and real life. In the case of this Maiden-esque single “Du Sang Sur Les Plaines” they explain:
“‘Du Sang Sur Les Plaines’ is a historical song (à la Maiden) about the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City during 1759 and is structured in a narrative way. We are proud to share an interesting part of our heritage in this song.”

Thrash La Reine is a Montreal-based French heavy metal trio founded in 2017. In their music, they comprise styles of their main influences of thrash and power metal as well as paying homage to their home city and the francophone punk bands that were notorious in the Montreal scene during their college years. In each song, they mix the epic themes of power metal with the social topics of punk and thrash metal to make a style that they dubbed ‘’Epic Thrash’’.
In 2017, in their home studio, they recorded a first EP called ‘’Le Metal Est Notre Langue’’. Since then, they have opened for artists such as Judas Priestess (US) and Tim Ripper Owen (US). In 2018, a second EP ‘’La Foi, La Loi, La Croix’’ was recorded. The recording and mixing were done at Studio Wild with Pierre Rémillard (Anonymus, Cryptopsy) and mastered in the summer by Jacob Hansen in Denmark. The EP is now ready to hit mosh pits around the world with a release date on May 31, 2019.

Bio:
EXTREMA’s original line-up was established between 1985 and 1986 in Milan, Italy. In a very short time, the band led by guitars player Tommy Massara achieved a huge success. Tommy is the only remaining member of the original line-up, and over the years he also played the role of artistic and executive producer.
Hundreds of concerts made the band more and more close-knit and open towards a constant growth path, capable from the beginning of welcoming influences external to heavy metal, a consistent choice within an evolutionary framework which saw EXTREMA start from the rebellious attitude of MOTÖRHEAD to later incorporate the style of Californian thrash metal, a scene with which the band shared the utmost care for the technical side of music and a devastating presence on stage.
The band’s reputation as musicians and performers kept growing in a perpetual live context, with extensive tours and the participation to prestigious festivals with the likes of METALLICA, SLAYER, MOTÖRHEAD, and KORN, a.o.
Extraneous from the beginning to political and ideological implications of any kind, EXTREMA’s lyrics have always strived to alternate challenging and contemporary themes with lighter subjects, true to rock’n’roll form.
In May 2017 the band welcomed the new frontman Tiziano Spigno. Thanks to his entry, EXTREMA can finally release all the creativity repressed in recent years: a violent, direct and engaging approach which is – at the same time – also varied, courageous and experimental, resulting in the new album “Headbanging Forever”.

Quebec City’s THE FLAYING recently unleashed their assaulting sophomore album “Angry, Undead” via PRC Music this past March. Working with Christian Donaldson of Cryptopsy at The Grid in Montreal, QC, the album is pure mayhem for their fastest and most brutal debauchery to date. The concept of “Angry, Undead” is an intricate one with each of the eight songs falling under a distinct axis: Chaos (social manifestations); Madness (individual manifestations); and Void (existential manifestations). It is brutal, instinctive, unique, and wicked, and is recommended for fans of Cryptopsy, Archspire, Suffocation, and Deicide.
Teaming up with TheCirclePit.com, the band continues their savagery with their new video for “Genuflect”, a ferocious track with blast beats and the signature Waltz Blast by drummer Mike Bélanger along with low ends grooves and lead melodies, tapping, slapping, popping and soloing by bassist Sebastien Marrier-Verret, plus relentless guitar shredding by Didier Samson and brute vocals from William Murray.

And it all began with the rope dancer….
Formed in July 2010, The Flaying is a death metal band based in Quebec City, Canada that focuses on fluid melodic construction of songs featuring brutal sections which are further complemented by vocals with both low end growls and hateful high pitches.
Since their first release Unhope (2014), Seb, Did, Wil and Mike are forging ahead in order to adopt a more brutal approach: adding new grooves, a greater velocity, and creating a wider ambiance as well as keeping breakdowns and progressive parts with counterpoints constructing a main theme of anger and a general hate of humanity.
Soldiering on with the philosophy of one band, four individuals, four personalities to collide, the writing process is a team effort initially seeing the band collaborate on riffs and groove ideas, adding a flourish of low-end colors, and blending the whole thing together with flying vocals that create a manifest of pure mayhem. This product of this steadfast diablerie will be realized on March 22, 2019, when the second album “Angry, Undead” is unleashed on PRC Music.

Ottawa legends INFRARED announce they will be hitting the road this coming May for a four date mini tour in Ontario and Quebec with Boston thrashers Black Mass. Making an impact on the Canadian’s 80s thrash scene, INFRARED returned last year to cement and carry on their own legacy with their latest album “Saviours” featuring all new music to follow their LP “No Peace”, which had tracks all written in the 80’s and was only heard by fans in 2016. Featuring eight brand new bangers, “Saviours” is thrashy, aggressive, melodic, heavy, and tight.

Returning in a haze of smoke for the third year is Calgary’s 420 Music & Arts Festival slated for the weekend of April 18-20, 2019. This three-day festival celebrates the 420 culture with a varied selection of stoner, sludge and psychedelic music, and the 2019 edition promises a solid lineup of local and international talent. The full festival pass is $60 CAD in advance, with single day tickets and other ticket packages available.
The New Level Brewing Co. brewery tour with a beer tasting, which includes a tasting of the official 420 Music & Arts Festival beer entitled “Sweet Leaf Blonde”. Entrance to the event is free and there will be some great draft beers that you won’t see at the festival on tap! Flights of beer will be only $5 and there were be specials on take-home beer for all festival attendees. Tours will run on Friday, April 19th in the afternoon at 1 pm, 1:30 pm and 2 pm. Plus for pinball enthusiasts, 420 Music & Arts Festival will be hosting their first ever tournament at Pin-Bar (501 17th Ave SW) on April 20th. The is event is open to all; there will be prizes galore and $5 entry for 420 festival ticket & pass holders and $15 for general participation. The general public can watch the tournament for free. Practice session and registration begins at 11 am, the tournament starts at 12 pm and runs to 5:30 pm.
The 420 Music & Arts Festival Expo will be a FREE event open to all festival attendees and the general public as well. There will be a variety of vendors including local artists, designers, craftspeople, unique local businesses and representatives from the Calgary Cannabis Community. The festival will also have some great Calgary food trucks by Capone’s Strada Cuchina, Seriously Cereal and Dogzilla in attendance.
The expo’s opening hours and days are as follows in the same building as the festival venue Town and Country Hotel (1825 50 St SE).
Friday, April 19: 4 pm to 10 pm
Saturday, April 20: 1 pm to 10 pm
The main event will take place at the County Line Saloon (1825 50 St SE) April 18-20, 2019 and will include the musical stylings of Crobot, Valley of the Sun, Disenchanter, Mark Deutrom‘s Bellringer, The Grudge, Great Electric Quest and more! Expanding the genre selection even more than past years, there is something for every rock and metal lover from groovy rock, to hard rock blues, to party metal and sludgy psychedelic rock.
