Montreal, QC – May 10, 2019

Out Now! Italian Groove Thrash EXTREMA’s New Album “Headbanging Forever” via Rockshots Records

Italian groove thrash metallers EXTREMA are ready to share with fans the “Headbanging Forever” experience with their seventh studio album, out now as of May 10th via Rockshots Records. The album features 10 crushing tracks produced by EXTREMA guitarist Tommy Massara & Gabriele Ravaglia. The album was recorded and mixed by Gabriele Ravaglia & Maxx Canali at the Fear Studio in Italy plus mastered by Alberto Cutolo at Massive Arts studios in Milan. For this album, the band enlisted Gustavo Sazes (MACHINE HEAD, ARCH ENEMY, ANGRA, ICED EARTH, GUS G., AMARANTHE, a.o.) to create the album artwork.

Tommy Massara comments:

“It’s a 100% Metal Album that leaves the listeners breathless. The songs are well balanced, there’s a lot of double bass, tempo changes and screaming lead guitar solos like in the old days. The songwriting of the album reminds me of something classic with modern production.”

Bio:

EXTREMA’s original line-up was established between 1985 and 1986 in Milan, Italy. In a very short time, the band led by guitars player Tommy Massara achieved a huge success. Tommy is the only remaining member of the original line-up, and over the years he also played the role of artistic and executive producer.

Hundreds of concerts made the band more and more close-knit and open towards a constant growth path, capable from the beginning of welcoming influences external to heavy metal, a consistent choice within an evolutionary framework which saw EXTREMA start from the rebellious attitude of MOTÖRHEAD to later incorporate the style of Californian thrash metal, a scene with which the band shared the utmost care for the technical side of music and a devastating presence on stage.

The band’s reputation as musicians and performers kept growing in a perpetual live context, with extensive tours and the participation to prestigious festivals with the likes of METALLICA, SLAYER, MOTÖRHEAD, and KORN, a.o.

Extraneous from the beginning to political and ideological implications of any kind, EXTREMA’s lyrics have always strived to alternate challenging and contemporary themes with lighter subjects, true to rock’n’roll form.

In May 2017 the band welcomed the new frontman Tiziano Spigno. Thanks to his entry, EXTREMA can finally release all the creativity repressed in recent years: a violent, direct and engaging approach which is – at the same time – also varied, courageous and experimental, resulting in the new album “Headbanging Forever”.

EXTREMA is:
Tiziano “Titian” Spigno – Vocals
Tommy Massara – Guitars
Gabri Giovanna – Bass
Francesco “Frullo” Larosa – Drums

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 9, 2019

‘Maritime Metal’ Documentary Crew Gearing Up For Canadian East Coast Interview Tour

www.maritimemetaldoc.com

Billy Stever’s forthcoming documentary ‘Maritime Metal’ is rolling ahead to begin principal photography this June. The production team is finalizing details and planning to visit 5 Canadian Maritime cities across a two-week span. To help fund the cost of production, Stever is currently running an IndieGoGo campaign, where fans can discover exclusive perks and interview clips giving a taste of what they’ll see in the finished film.

TheEastMag.com, speaking about the project, writes, “Atlantic Canada’s metal scene is a curious niche in our cultural cornucopia… (with) a near constant presence over the last several decades. Now, one fan and former music promoter is hoping to shed some light on the scene with a Maritime Metal Documentary.” The feature-length film is part ‘Maritime Metal’ history and part analysis of how music scenes evolve with changes in technology. Support for the film has been pouring in from bands and metalheads across the Maritimes, from sharing the campaign on social media to donating footage, music, videos and stories for use in the finished movie. “This project keeps getting bigger and bigger, thanks to the community contributions,” says Stever.

The ‘Maritime Metal’ team has already filmed over 10 hours of content, locking down the style and narrative of the film. Among the preliminary interviews are members of (past and present): Centuries of Decay, Of Hatred Spawn, Skullfist, Mokomokai, Zaum, Deformatory, Holy Cost, Hatred Reigns, Realms of Despair, Dichotic, Tolerance, Soul Devourer, Burning Moon, Skinkeeper, Iron Giant, Uigg, and Church.

‘Maritime Metal’ will release in 2020, and is available for pre-order on IndieGoGo until June 30.

“an impressive debut, with enough hooks to catch ears wherever it gets play. So grab yourself a copy, turn it up, and consume some mean doom.” – The Burning Beard (Review – Solace EP 2018)

“A strange and bewildering piece of psychedelic doom metal, inspired by both old school doom and black metal, this debut by Canadian act Wykan is certainly something special. ” – Merchants of Air (Review – Solace EP 2018)

“Montreal riff metallers Wykan make their debut April 13 with the SolaceEP. It is not intended for background listening. Even at three tracks/24 minutes, it’s not the kind of thing you “just put on” while you’re picking up around the house or working or whatever you might be doing. It demands attention and demands it early.” – The Obelisk (Review – Solace EP 2018)

““The Gathering” is an undeniably intense song that passes through changing shades of mystery, tension, torment, and gloom. The stage is set through a slow, reverberating guitar melody, whose ringing tones create a mystical aura, and by a solemn, heavy riff that itself has an otherworldly cast. The increasingly acrobatic drumming and the vibrancy of the throbbing bass drive the energy of the song higher, as does the swirling lead, which creates a feeling of growing disquiet and pain, made even more distraught by the vocal combination of acidic rasping shrieks and harsh roars.” – No Clean Singing (Review – Solace EP 2018)

“Impressively eclectic, undefined by any one genre, with a healthy disregard for boundaries, ‘Solace’ could easily be called a cutting-edge production, traversing many genres and perceived barriers, within metal. Less of an EP to enjoy and kick back with and more one to concentrate your thoughts on, perhaps, but otherwise, it’s intelligently thought provocative, with touches of genius.” – Jenny Tate’s Blog (Review – Solace EP 2018)

Founded in 2017 by guitarist Jeremy Perkins, the project plays a blend of Psychedelic Doom / Heavy Blues / Stoner Rock and Black Metal in the classic format of bass, drums, and guitar. Their experimental and massive sounding music is best described as Pink Floyd meeting Black Sabbath meeting Mayhem for those who have never heard the band.

In just under 8 months of the band being founded, WYKAN unleashed their debut EP “Solace” to the masses in April 2018. The EP delivered a heavy brew, blending a soup of atmospheric groove, spirits of heavy riffs and hot tubes overridden and pushed to the limits in a ceremonial manner. As they continue on their path of ceremonial heaviness, WYKAN returns in 2019 with their sophomore EP “Brigid: Of The Night” to follows the band’s plan of releasing an EP every six to ten months and keep fans on a ceremonial run of emotion and space.

“We want to give fans a trip for the mind, without barriers and hooks, just plain vibes and atmosphere. This next EP, overall, is more of the classic riffing which goes with each genre I touch and blend in each of the songs. As a thematic “Brigid: Of The Night” is about the Celtic Goddess known as Brigid. The whole EP’s thematic and three songs are a historical take on the cultural ceremonies & festivities in Ode to Brigid. Also one will find that the lyrics are based on the deities representation and relationship held strong between  the Celtic life of pre-Christian Ireland and Brigid.” says Perkins.

The band’s line up for the EP features guest drummer Simon McKay of The Agonist rattling his talents on track #3 Reul-Iuil Bride (Star of Brigid) along WYKAN and EOHUM founder Jeremy Perkins on guitar, vocalist Barrie Butler (Eohum, ex-Tard), bassist Corey Thomas, best known for his own Jazz ensemble Backwater Township and drummer Dug Kawliss (ex-Tempete) who is on tracks #1 Imbolc (The Cleansing) and #2 Breo-Saighead (Triple Goddess).

“Brigid: Of The Night” EP is slated for release on June 7, 2019, and will be available on Bandcamp as a $1 EP or more Pay-What-You-Want download.

Welcome to the Wykan Cult Gathering and ceremony.

Track By Track explanation:

1. Imbolc (The Cleansing) (7:30) – Is about the poems written in scriptures about the Goddess and the beginning of spring ceremonies in celebration of the Goddess of fertility. This song is atmospheric and starts off as a very rock, very 1970’s bluesy sound and becomes slowly black-metalesque before having a deep death metal feel.

2. Breo-Saighead (Triple Goddess) (7:08) – This song speaks of the origin of Brigid and the representation of this deity amongst the Celtic pre-Christian peoples of Ireland.  This song starts off very Stoner Rock, goes into some blacked doom and ends very Doomy, an ode to the Riff!

3. Reul-Iuil Bride (Star of Brigid) (5:20) – Is a description of how the festivities went as an ode to Brigid pre springs arrival and some details about her and her strengths and metaphorical representations for the people. This song is more of the blackened doom song of the album.
