NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 2, 2025

Out Now! on CD From Bolverk Collective – Canadian Progressive Death SYMBIOTIC GROWTH’s New Album “Beyond The Sleepless Aether”

Mixed and Mastered by Tom MacLean (Haken, Athemon, Brutta)

In partnership with Bolverk Collective, Canadian progressive blackened death unit Symbiotic Growth has unleashed their sophomore album “Beyond The Sleepless Aether” on limited edition CD, now available as of May 2nd, to follow its digital release on March 28th, 2025.

The band comments:

“We’re proud to team up with Bolverk Records for a limited CD release of our new album. In an age of digital saturation, there’s something powerful about holding music in your hands — something tangible, raw, and real. Bolverk shares our DIY ethos, making them the perfect partner for this release. We’re stoked to bring this record to life in physical form for those who still value the ritual of pressing play.”

CD Order is available at https://www.bolverkcollective.com/symbioticgrowth

“Beyond The Sleepless Aether” can be heard on the following digital platforms:

YouTube (Album Stream) – https://youtu.be/CSOzIaRlo6E

Spotify – https://spoti.fi/42m1Mlp

Bandcamp – https://symbioticgrowth.bandcamp.com

Mixed and mastered by Tom MacLean (Twelve Tone Studio, Haken, Athemon, Brutta), “Beyond The Sleepless Aether” features seven paryalzing sounds of technical metal created by the Sudbury, ON recording line up of Aaron Barriault (Vocals, Guitar, Bass), Devin McQueen (Vocals, Guitar), and Dan Favot (Drums)(ex-Wolven Ancestry, ex-Fractal Generator).

Similar to the band’s predecessor, their 2020 self-titled full-length, “Beyond The Sleepless Aether,” is once again based in fiction and is lyrically conceptual, but dives more into thoughts and emotions of everyday life, and sometimes those thoughts are hard to deal with. It’s progressive, experimental, foreboding, and emotional; every song has its own identity and place within the album’s story, taking its protagonist through the multiverse, placing him in places like dark wooded forests, wide open desert landscapes, and the unending cosmos.

“I think the fans who have heard our previous album may be a bit surprised; the sound of this album is a bit different; it’s a little bit more experimental in its way. Either way, we hope that fans enjoy what we’ve created. I feel like the listener may have feelings of uneasiness and wonder. An odd combination, but I feel like it’s fitting,” adds Aaron Barriault – Vocals, Guitar, Bass.

“Beyond The Sleepless Aether” is recommended for fans of Ne Oblivisacaris, Der Weg Einer Freiheit, Cor Scorpii, and Gojira.

1. Of Painted Skies and Dancing Lights – 7:03

“Beyond The Sleepless Aether is heavy as a herd of elephants wearing armour, jumping up and down on your head for the rest of time. It is utterly relentless, yet interspersed with moments of such musical beauty that your soul will ache to the point of breaking. I cannot praise this album highly enough as it is fucking perfect in every single way, and if you have ever taken anything I have ever written to heart then know this. You… yes, you reading this… you need this fucking album in your life in the way that you need breathing. 5/5” – Black Metal Archive

“There are an immense number of individual components that deserve special attention on “Beyond The Sleepless Aether. The rhythm work is exemplary, the stubborn use of background keys in the context of a mostly dissonant sound sets standards, the vocals are one of the absolute pieces of jewelry anyway, and what is ultimately ignited in the lead guitars is no longer from this world: soulful playing, virtuoso descents, crunchy sawing. Everything that could contribute to the mutual mood is really taken into account here, of course also at a technically brilliant level. 10/10 ” PowerMetal.de

“this record (Beyond The Sleepless Aether) is a delight to listen to, and an early contender in what is traditionally one of the most competitive metal niches out there.” – Metal Storm

“Canada’s Symbiotic Growth came in clutch with their fantastic new record Beyond the Sleepless Aether. Enslaved are an immediate touchstone—so much so that I’m sure the main riff to “Spires Of The Boundless Sunset” sounds like a specific latter-day song of theirs that i can’t quite place. As the album develops, however, Ne Obliviscaris become a more obvious point of comparison, with the songs expanding into ever more extravagant and elongated arrangements as the album goes on. As with NeO, the longer, postier passages do drag on a bit, but there’s always a pummeling riff or cathartic melody waiting around the corner to bring the energy back up again, and the band is granted an extra tech-death tinge, thanks to the ferocious efforts drummer Dan Favot of Fractal Generator” – Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“Glimmers of brilliance, particularly in the epics and performances, shine through across the record, untouched by occasional patches of off cleans and songs that stick to their guns a little too tightly. As a result, Symbiotic Growth have made a fine record, and one that shows an incredible amount of maturity and growth from their debut. In just a few years, they’ve leveled themselves up a considerable amount, and perhaps the symbiotic relationship between this reviewer and these musicians will help their growth into something special.” – The Progressive Subway

“a solid and high quality example of extreme progressive metal that deserves attention” – Progressor

“Canada is always that country that always gives us some unexpected gems of extreme music. Symbiotic Growth is the latest revelation. This debut album brings us a fantastic balance between the extreme aspect of death metal and progressive metal.” – World Of Metal Magazine

“Symbiotic Growth‘s songs are significant hybrids, but their incorporation of differing influences works very well because they’re such adept songwriters and skilled performers.” – No Clean Singing

0 Canada’s Deadwood Announces USA Tour Dates + New Horrifying Deathcore Video “Heretic”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 1, 2025

Canada’s Deadwood Announces USA Tour Dates + New Horrifying Deathcore Video “Heretic”

L-R – Fred Element – Guitar, Martin Demontigny – Vocals, Charles-Etienne Lafrance – Drums, Stephane Filion – Lead Guitar

Returning from their recent Japan tour this past April, Montreal, Canada’s deathcore outfit Deadwood announces their next trek with four USA tour dates this coming July, which includes a performance during this year’s Inkcarceration Festival (dates listed below).

“We’re extremely excited about this opportunity! We are going to do the after-show of one of the biggest festivals in North America, Inkcarceration Fest, and spread the metal to our metalhead family to the south!”

Other Dates:
May 24 – Quebec City, QC – Quartier de Lune w/ Burning The Oppressor, Unpunished
June 14 – St-Calixte, QC – VodFest

USA Tour Dates:
July 16 – Albany, NY – Empire Underground
July 17 – Pittsburgh, PA – The Smiling Moose
July 18 – Mansfield, OH – Inkcarceration Festival (Campground Performance)
July 22 – Hampton Beach, NH – Wally’s

In additional news, Deadwood unveiled their most harrowing work to date with “Heretic”, the lead single from their upcoming EP “Rituals of A Dying Light” slated for release later this year. The accompanying video plunges viewers into a nightmarish realm that perfectly complements the band’s brutal, fast-paced sonic assault. The single’s release coincides with Deadwood‘s upcoming Japan tour (dates listed below) alongside Humanity’s Last Breath and DVRK, further cementing their place in the international extreme metal scene. The comment on the single and what the audience should expect:

“This is the first song we’ve written for the next EP and one of the ones we’re most proud of: it’s fast, heavy, and technical. We are a very intense show with a very percussive and tight guitar sound. We have a lot of samples between the songs to create a horror movie atmosphere. The fans go back home with a slap in the face. Heretic represents our darkest material yet.”

The Montreal-based collective, known for its mission to ‘Make Deathcore Angry Again,’ draws inspiration from centuries-old horror stories and myths. The track delivers the uncompromising heaviness and terrifying atmosphere that have become Deadwood‘s signature since its 2020 formation. The band’s unique blend of death metal and hardcore elements reaches new heights of intensity with this release, promising an unforgettable auditory experience for fans who crave pure brutality. They are recommended for fans of Whitechapel, Despised Icon, and Meshuggah.

“If you ever wondered what Al Swearengen might listen to if he was living in modern times, here’s your answer, c*********. Montreal’s Deadwood have been around town for a decade now, and pride themselves on evolving into a more savage animal with each release. In December, 2022, they released Inhuman, an EP that is hell bent on making deathcore brutal again.” – Metal Sucks: Deathcore in the North – 10 Canadian Deathcore Bands

Red Deer, AB extreme metal outfit Art of Attrition are hitting the road across Canada, east to the west this May for “The Subservient Bloodletting Tour” along with 2024 Wacken Metal Battle Canada Champions, Toronto, ON’s Beguiler (dates listed below – info). This cross-country trek marks a new chapter for both bands as they expand their reach, unleashing their most punishing sets and new songs to unveil. Enter the mosh pit for these two bands’ audio assaults of some good ol’ extreme sonic carnage!

Art of Attrition recently unleashed their latest single, “Subserviate & Decay”. The track showcases the band’s signature blend of relentless brutality and melodic complexity while pushing into bold new territory.

“Subserviate & Decay” delivers the classical Art of Attrition sound that fans have come to expect – a devastating combination of 8-string guitars, gravity blast beats, and guttural vocals – before taking an unexpected turn after the bridge breakdown. The band expands:

“It is modern primitive. It embodies all you love about Art of Attrition and then slaps you in the face with a caveman club. We loved writing this song, recording the parts, and developing its uniqueness in our catalog. It serves as a visceral reminder of the necessity of internal self-love and confidence.”

Since their formation in 2019, Art of Attrition has carved out their niche in the extreme metal landscape; their 2023 debut album “The Void Eternal” and 2024’s “…And It Will All End Forever” established them as a force in the technical deathcore scene. The single represents a conscious step outside the band’s comfort zone, incorporating elements from other genres they love. It is especially recommended for fans of Lorna Shore, Aversions Crown, and Kublai Khan.

“Since the speed is incredibly fast, you get the feeling that every song is a 10-minute epic, but they are all in the 5-minute plus/minus direction. But epic is a good keyword, because every single piece has such technical power that you really need several runs to understand, what’s actually going on and that’s what brings tears of joy to the eyes of every metal fan who loves the technical hidden refinements. A small highlight is probably the last of the four songs, as well as the title song “…And It Will All End Forever”, which expresses the band’s entire range and makes it clear to everyone, what is meant by “Technical Deathcore”.9.5/10” – Hellfire Magazin

““…And It Will All End Forever” rises to the surface with the speed and dexterity of bands like Archspire. Mesmerising lead guitars shine brightly above the powerhouse rhythms, momentary silences between anvil heavy sections giving fleeting respite. A gargantuan monolithic breakdown is the last thing you might expect to hear on a track with such stunning lead guitars but the band brought it and it is nothing short of brutal, contrasted perfectly the delicate piano fade out. It’s hard to fathom how this band are not on a major label because this record is sublime [9/10]” – Metal Noise

“Blackened technical deathcore… brutal and pissed off too” – 89.9 WORT FM – The Moshpit (Madison, WI)

“But then the EP’s ending title track. Holy fuck do they knock it out of the park with 6 minutes of killer melodies, a killer chorus and key/choirs, and a massive breakdown that make it an absolutely killer track, maybe one of the year’s best in the genre” – Teeth of The Divine

Toronto Prog DEREV Shares New Live Video “Cyclone” and Kick Off Cross-Canada Tour Dates (ON/MB/SK/BC) For Debut Album “Troubled Mind”

New Album Out on Vinyl!

L-R (Clockwise) – Live Lineup – Ran Zehavi (Keys), Stan Komarovsky (Bass), Armando Bablanian (Guitar), Mike Symons (Vocals), Michel Karakach (Drums)

Getting set to hit the road for their Western Canadian tour (dates listed below) in support release of their first full-length, “Troubled Mind”, Toronto prog rock Derev is sharing their latest live video performing their track “Cyclone”, which was filmed during a hometown album launch show at the Supermarket.

“The Troubled Mind’s release show at the Supermarket was one of the best experiences we’ve had on stage to date. That night was one of those nights when the stars were aligned and everything went as well as we could have hoped. From the energy of the crowd to the impeccable sound and lighting on stage. We wanted to release a video of that night to give people a glimpse of what they can expect coming to see us live. We can’t wait to kick off the tour and bring the whole “Troubled Mind” live experience to our fans out west and all across Canada,” adds the band.

Watch and listen to Derev performing “Cyclone” at Supermarket in Toronto at https://youtu.be/lhwZR9ItKIo

Derev‘s new album “Troubled Mind” is the follow-up to their 2021 debut EP “Leap of Faith,” and takes a deep dive into the intricacies of the human psyche, addressing a spectrum of mental health issues with each track, ranging from temporary mental instability to more severe conditions such as schizophrenia, cognitive immobility (a fixation on the past), and depression stemming from loss.

Offering a diverse range of sounds from mellow, calm tracks to adrenaline-pumping heavy headbangers while maintaining their distinctive progressive rock sound, enriched with Middle Eastern influences. Incorporating more prominent keyboard parts, experimenting with various time signatures, and introducing new instruments such as the Cajon, Darbuka, and electronic elements. This evolution showcases the band’s innovative spirit and commitment to pushing musical boundaries.

The band adds:

“This album is very personal and introspective. It’s full of memorable songs and parts to listen to and digest, both from a musical and lyrical perspective. Every song tackles a different state of mind and takes the listener into their thoughts of a mental state that they can relate to. As this one marks our second official release, we think the fans will be excited about hearing what Derev still has to offer. They’re in for a crazy ride full of energetic ups and heartbreaking downs.”

Derev was conceived after founding member and drummer Michel Karakach, after fleeing the war in the Middle East and finding refuge in Toronto, Canada, reunited with his best friend, guitarist Armando Bablanian, to turn what was once a mere childhood dream into a powerful reality.

Derev‘s dynamic lineup now includes bassist Stan Komarovsky, providing the backbone of Derev‘s sound, and keyboardist Ran Zehavi from the progressive rock band Scalar, adding depth and complexity. Leading the live charge is frontman and vocalist Mike Symons, who has replaced previous singer Adel Saflou, whose recorded vocals are featured on “Troubled Mind”.

Recommended for fans of Opeth, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Soen, and Riverside, “Troubled Mind” was released on March 26th, 2025, and is available at https://www.derevmusic.com/store (on Vinyl, CD, Tour Pass) and all digital platforms (Spotify, Bandcamp).

About: “Divided by war, United by music”

Derev is a progressive rock band captivating global audiences with its innovative blend of progressive rock and traditional Middle Eastern music.

After fleeing the war in the Middle East and finding refuge in Toronto, Canada, founding member and Drummer Michel Karakach reunited with his best friend, guitarist Armando Bablanian, to turn what was once a mere childhood dream into a powerful reality.

Derev’s debut release, “Leap of Faith,” melded the raw energy of hard rock with the rich textures of the traditional Middle Eastern music they grew up with, offering a fresh perspective on topics often overlooked in modern music. This distinctive sound quickly caught the attention of both local and international audiences, propelling Derev into a series of successful shows across Canada.

The band’s dynamic lineup now includes bassist Stan Komarovsky, providing the backbone of Derev’s sound, and keyboardist Ran Zehavi from the progressive rock band Scalar, adding depth and complexity. Leading the live charge is frontman and vocalist Mike Symons, who replaces previous singer Adel Saflou, who is featured on their forthcoming studio offering “Troubled Mind”. Symons’ compelling presence and vocal prowess complete the live ensemble.

As Derev gears up to release their anticipated second album, “Troubled Mind,” on March 26th, 2025, they continue to carve out a unique niche in the music world. Their innovative sound promises to captivate new listeners and industry veterans alike. Keep an eye on Derev as they redefine what rock music can be.

“Toronto prog quintet Derev will release their debut full-length album, Troubled Mind, on March 26. The yearning, epic tones of Cyclone is the second single to be taken from the upcoming album, and Derev will be touring throughout Ontario and Quebec over the coming months to support the new album.” – Prog Magazine – Great new prog you must hear… Tracks Of The Week – Cyclone – Feb 21, 2025

“The best part of the album (Troubled Mind) is the band’s ability to carry strong emotions into their music. Many of the songs are not complicated, but they are loaded with feelings. I’m not sure I have heard a Progressive album that is this unpretentious and this emotional at the same time. 8/10” Metal-Temple

“its eight tracks draws us into a music that combines intensity and peaceful atmospheres of old school prog. The melodies thus highlight many sound universes from one composition to another including beautiful vocal harmonies and important instrumental parts… Derev delivers retro-sounding music with plenty of late 70s and early 80s progressive influences… Troubled Mind, with its instantly relatable melodies, is a resounding success. 4/5” – Prog Critique

“every minute is a blessing to your progressive ears. Porcupine Tree and Opeth enthusiasts might appreciate this.” – Rock Portaal

“I definitely find myself looking forward to putting on my headphones again and letting myself fall and drift after enjoying the thickly produced record “Troubled Mind, to close my eyes, sit back and just enjoy. DEREV: Great band, great discovery. Playing tips: Room 9, Cyclone, Paracusia 8/10” – PowerMetal.de

“Excellent music and a beautiful, intelligent album.” – Plus PROG de Vous

” Troubled Mind is a great album as Derev redefine what rock music can and should be. ” – Background Magazine

“Solid debut from this progressive metal band from Canada. Not your typical “noisy” prog metal, some real soul and dynamics to it. Really love Adel Saflou’s vocals.” – Prog Radio

“Derev’s sound combines the energy and intensity of metal music with the atmospheric sound of old-school progressive rock, while incorporating elements of their Arabic and Armenian heritage.” – The Prog Space

Montreal, QC – April 29, 2025

MORNINGSTVR Releases Synthy Black Metal “Dethroned” Music Video Off New Album “A Fate Engraved” Out June 2025 + Tour Dates (CA/WA/OR/ID)

New Album “A Fate Engraved” Out June 20th, 2025

Synth-Based Black Metal artist Morningstvr continues to build momentum toward his June album release with the unveiling of a new music video for the track “Dethroned”. The second single from the forthcoming album “A Fate Engraved” delves deeper into the medieval-inspired narrative that characterizes this ambitious project. Morningstvr comments on the inspiration for the single:

“Delving on themes of betrayal of those close to you and binding them into submission, ensuring they know their place, “Dethroned” was heavily inspired from the second wave of black metal, mainly from the early Darkthrone days and thus the guitars bring that sound back to the forefront whilst guided by winterous, abysmal synths.”

“Dethroned” showcases Morningstvr‘s evolution as both composer and storyteller, featuring over four minutes of atmospheric synths layered with relentless percussion and haunting vocals. The track explores themes of fallen monarchs and lost power, serving as a crucial narrative piece in the album’s overarching medieval saga. In the months since his last release “Amongst Two Towers of Novgorod” (a split EP with Incantations of Cadaver Mutilation), Sam Tchortov has refined his approach to the Synth-Based Black Metal subgenre he champions, creating music that is simultaneously abrasmal and majestic.

This release follows the successful reception of “The Last of the Northern Kingdoms” in March and continues the methodical rollout of content leading to the June 20th release of “A Fate Engraved”, which stands as the second installment in what Tchortov describes as his “Unholy Trinity” of albums. His music is recommended for fans of Xasthur, Hekseblad, and Hulder.

Streaming Now! SITH’ARI Unleashes Debut EP “Before The Dawn”

+ CD-Pre-Order From Ethanol Studio – Out May 30th

L-R – Pathos – Drums, Lord Kafir – Guitars, Bass, Vocals

Sith’ari, the Iowa, USA, black metal side project for both Lord Kafir of Nedakh and Pathos of Symphony of Heaven and Satan Destroyer announces the release of their debut EP” Before The Dawn”, unleashed digitally on April 23rd, with physical release on CD on May 30th, 2025 via their indie label Ethanol Studio.

Melancholic but uplifting, fast, and atmospheric, the EP is a more riff-oriented sound usually associated with most black metal. Lord Kafir writes the riffs on guitar and a drum machine then sends them to Pathos to get his interpretation to create a record that’s a mish-mash of influences from different readings from history books, experiencing harsh winters in Iowa and Indiana and fantasy stories, games and movies.

Lord Kafir had other music in him that wasn’t just typical death metal and Pathos was brought in because he wanted to play in a specific black metal band that didn’t deny him from his religious point of view.

The band comments:

“If you wish that your black metal was a bit darker, add a dash of Gorgoroth with just a dash of Immortal, that describes the sounds. The themes are much more in touch with fans of later-day Bathory and Immortal. From beginning to end, this EP will leave you wanting more. It’s a fantastic record that caters to all fans of black metal who want something melodic, fast, and relentless.”

================================================

About The Album Artwork:

An angel blesses fallen soldiers in a Nordic fantasy battle that is used in the song “Hail Victory.”

Abum as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

If you wish your black metal was a bit darker, add a dash of Gorgoroth with just a dash of Immortal, that describes the sounds. The themes are much more in touch with fans of later-day Bathory and Immortal.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

1. Chaos in the Skies is a punishing, melancholic song for Gorgoth fans that sings about a Blizzard in Iowa that devastated the entire western part of the state

2. A scorching song that is uplifting in a way. To describe a soldier who was thought to be dead on a battlefield retreats to safer sights.

3. Conquer the Wild is a much more black and roll song with a melancholic feel to impersonate the theme of a lone man surviving in the wilderness during the wintertime and his mindset at that time.

4. Hail Victory is the fastest song of the EP and epic to bring the theme of a fantasy raid that is a precursor to the themes in the track Before the Dawn.

5. The everlasting hunt is the slowest and most atmospheric track that revolves around a boy who is receiving his first taste of hunting in a Nordic timescape.

================================================

Fun Facts – Story Angles:

1. Kafir plays in Nedakh and Pathos plays for Symphony of Heaven.

2. The band is made of engineers. Kafir Records, produces, mixes and masters everything at his own make shift studio inside his own house and lets other bands in the local Iowa scene record their songs if they hire him. Pathos records, produces, mixes, and masters symphony of heaven releases since 2020 to current.

3. Kafir is the audio engineering student of the former FIN drummer.

Canadian Progressive Death SYMBIOTIC GROWTH Partners w/ Bolverk Records For CD Release of New Album “Beyond The Sleepless Aether”

Mixed and Mastered by Tom Maclean (Haken, Athemon, Brutta)

Unleashing their sophomore album “Beyond The Sleepless Aether” this past March, Canadian progressive blackened death unit Symbiotic Growth announces they have partnered with Bolverk Records for the physical release of the record on May 2nd, 2025.

Similar to the band’s predecessor, their 2020 self-titled full-length, “Beyond The Sleepless Aether,” is once again based in fiction and is lyrically conceptual, but dives more into thoughts and emotions of everyday life, and sometimes those thoughts are hard to deal with.

“I feel like this time around, the sound is a bit darker and experimental, with more synth-heavy sounds and a melancholy atmosphere. The lyrics were very loosely inspired by a dream I (Aaron) had about the multiverse theory intertwined with some of my challenges of dealing with a sense of being and why we are all here,” says Aaron Barriault (Vocals, Guitar, Bass).

Progressive, experimental, foreboding, and emotional, every song has its own identity and place within the album’s story, taking its protagonist through the multiverse, placing him in places like dark wooded forests, wide open desert landscapes, and the unending cosmos.

The full-length listening experience tackles strong topics of loneliness, a sense of being, self-hatred, and suicide. Some of these are blatant and easy to see, and others are subtle throughout the album, lyrically and musically.

“I think the fans who have heard our previous album may be a bit surprised; the sound of this album is a bit different; it’s a little bit more experimental in its way. Either way, we hope that fans enjoy what we’ve created. I feel like the listener may have feelings of uneasiness and wonder. An odd combination, but I feel like it’s fitting.

Mixed and mastered by Tom Maclean (Twelve Tone Studio, Haken, Athemon, Brutta), “Beyond The Sleepless Aether” features seven paryalzing sounds of technical metal created by the Sudbury, ON recording line up of Aaron Barriault (Vocals, Guitar, Bass), Devin McQueen (Vocals, Guitar), and Dan Favot (Drums)(ex-Wolven Ancestry, ex-Fractal Generator). The artwork was created by Erskine Designs and shows an entity standing at the foot of what the band likes to think of as Azathoth.

“The album doesn’t touch on any Lovecraftian mythos (maybe a bit in The Sleepless Void), but the lore behind Azathoth, that we are all in his dream and once he wakes, everything will cease to be, is very fitting to the album lyrically,” adds Barriault.

“Canada is always that country that always gives us some unexpected gems of extreme music. Symbiotic Growth is the latest revelation. This debut album brings us a fantastic balance between the extreme aspect of death metal and progressive metal.” – World Of Metal Magazine

“Symbiotic Growth‘s songs are significant hybrids, but their incorporation of differing influences works very well because they’re such adept songwriters and skilled performers.” – No CleanSinging
