NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – February 25, 2020

For fans Immortal, Satyricon, Darkthrone, Celtic Frost, Venom, Bathory

Out Now! Newfoundland Black Metal Duo ARTACH “Chronicles of A Black Winter”

Artach, an epic and raw two-man black metal band/project (Sruthán: Guitar, Bass, Fíochmhar: Battery, Vokills) based in St. John’s, Newfoundland have unleashed their debut album entitled “Chronicles of a Black Winter”. Just released on February 24th, the full length consists of nine songs including “When The Forest Ends” for which the band released a music video for in the fall of 2019 plus a cover of Celtic Frost’s ‘Jewel Throne’ as a bonus track.

Digging into the inspirations of a few of the songs, the band reveals that the typical “evil” lyrics were not territory they wanted to tread. Instead, a near-mystical connection to the land and in particular to the northern climate of their home is where their hearts lie. The title for the song “When The Forest Ends” was inspired by the recent Amazon rain forest fires. Global climate change also inspired the track “Permafrost” with the twist of what ancient contagion may be unleashed as the arctic warms. It’s not all environmentalism though, as songs like “Frozen in Time” have more of a sci-fi leaning, and “Fire & Ice” questions the end of the universe.

The band adds:

“We have been crafting music for just 9 months and we have been very prolific and felt it was time to release a selection of 9 tracks on an album. We have more songs recorded and more written, and we will keep pumping them out as we head towards a second album. We hope you enjoy our old school black metal approach as we keep things raw and honest.”

Since their formation in the spring of 2019, Artach has been consistently releasing new music. Being from the foggiest, snowiest, wettest, windiest, and gloomiest capital city in Canada, one should not be surprised that this fuels the creation of Black Metal.

“Chronicles of a Black Winter” can be streamed and downloaded at the band’s Bandcamp and YouTube.

1. Eternal Black Winter (4:58)

Tzimani is comprised of the Vazquez brothers, frontman Eddie does vocals and guitar and Sebastian pummels the drums. Together, the duo have formed an original sound in the burgeoning revival of the new wave of American heavy metal. The ambitious musical project, with focus on twin guitar leads, melodic solos, catchy choruses and a sharp, but raspy vocal technique will make you feel that you are in the middle of the 1980s heavy metal explosion. Tzimani culminates sounds of those of legends, i.e. Guns N’ Roses and Mötley Crüe, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

The duo originally released their self-titled EP in 2018, which is now being re-issued in 2020 by Bonita Steel Records for digital format and Diabolic Might Records for vinyl.

Right of the gate since their inception, the heavy metal brothers have been touring throughout North America, hitting markets across the USA and have ventured into Canada on multiple tours. On their last few runs, Tzimani have shared the stage with national and international touring acts such as Huntress, Scarlet Canary, Final Drive, Joan Ov Arc, Scattered Hamlet, Bewitcher, Mothership, Truck Fighters, and more.

Currently, Tzimani is prepared to embark on its biggest excursion yet, a 27 date tour that will bring the band across the United States and hit sights unknown to the band and continue its foray into Canadian lands yet unconquered.

“Despite sparking synapses associated with a variety of high-octane hard rock and metal birthed in the days of yore, this self titled debut EP genuinely feels fresh-faced. Pull on your leather, put the pedal to the metal, and smell the gasoline …” – Sleeping Village Reviews

“One of the best bands to come out of the San Diego area and another great signing by Metal Assault Management. These tracks fill you with that 70s-80s Heavy Metal you love and need in your life, but it’s updated just enough to give their own flavoring. What makes this even better is that this band is two brothers, Eddie and Sebastian Vazquez. It’s great to see family that gets together for the power of metal. They are going to go far if they are capable of this so early in their career.” – That Drummer Guy

“Considering the relative short time together as Tzimani, it’s easy to gauge the band’s great instincts when it comes to songwriting, performance, and execution. They have all the tools to get the beer flowing and the fists flying high, and that’s the name of the game to building an audience in the metal landscape.” – Dead Rhetoric

“The song [Overdrive] is a thrashing speed demon of a hit, only ever slowing down to release a soaring refrain with a powerful vocal delivery. The guitars are downright filthy in their approach, ripping through solos and arpeggios with ease, not to mention the blistering pace of the verse riff.” – New Noise Magazine

“This was only an EP, can you imagine how their full length will be like? This nice little teaser will have your speed demon wanting more.” – Ugh Metal

Calgary’s Benevolent Like Quietus release their second single ‘The Rise and The Fall’ off the upcoming debut album “Kill The Bliss”. The brooding quintet has been working on this album for quite some time and are very excited to show off the product of their hard work which includes everything from writing to recording and mastering.

The album gives a well-rounded introduction to the Canadian band, encompassing everything from heartbreak, death, depression, to religious criticism. The second single starts with a modern goth rock feel right out of the gates. BLQ explains the track in further detail:

“Layered with a dynamic vocal melody and captivating, poetically descriptive lyrics describing a battle of mortal love and immortal life.  The chorus is probably the catchiest on the album. It’s the perfect blend of rhythm, beat, vocal melody and a lead picking arpeggiated chords that give the chorus a lot of dynamic and depth.”

Listen to ‘The Rise and The Fall’ via its premiere on Metal-Rules HERE.

Also, check out their first single ‘Dawn of Rust’ here.

About:

Hailing from the cold, dark winter nights of Calgary, Canada; Benevolent Like Quietus brings forth a bounty of brooding, goth rock-influenced melodic metal. Laden with heavy riffs, catchy melodies and crushing breakdowns, the 5-piece metal act lyrically exploits the joy in sorrow and strife within life, love and death.

Dabbling in gloom, BLQ is a dark, musical metaphor for the sweet kiss of death. Collectively drawing influences from far and wide across the metal and rock spectrum BLQ has worked tirelessly to craft their own unique sound within the Canadian music scene.

Keen to revisit the era of 90s European goth/melancholic rock, BLQ is a heavy and brooding whirlwind of emotion and melody. Each song starts with Ryan Spencer (drums) who writes the music on guitar and together with Daniel Louden (vocals) put together the basic guitar and vocal structures before being worked through by the rest of the band, Ty Frederick (guitar), Killian Murphy (bass), and Matt Springer for the final breath of life.

Despite the melancholic lyrics and themes, Benevolent Like Quietus is straightforward and energetic music. No gimmicks, no BS, just 5 guys playing their hearts out and creating a moment.

Having the pleasure of sharing the stage with touring acts such as Katatonia, Wednesday 13, All Hail The Yeti, Final Drive, Caspian and Invidia along with being nominated in 2018 for Metal Recording of The Year by Calgary’s YYC Music Awards, BLQ continues to build on their live performances delivering a healthy dose of heavy, gloomy tunes to their audiences with no foreseeable end in sight. Their debut album “Kill The Bliss” is slated for release on March 13th, 2020.

“it is simply impossible not to walk away from Kill The Bliss without a huge smile on your usually stern-faced dial after close exposure to this album. It’s hard to imagine a better album of its type emerging from the gloaming this year, so why not leave me to my reveries and just hurry on and secure a copy as soon as you can. Satisfaction’s guaranteed, I promise.” – Sentinel Daily

Like your dishevelled uncle on Christmas morning, Turbo is trashed, pissed off, sleazy, mean, and sick of your shit.

“Fast as Fvck is a sort of hommage to true rock and roll in its most vicious and visceral form. Each of the seven tracks hit like a swift kick to the teeth from a whole new angle of attack, but the assault is far from a mindless battering to the eardrums. The album ebbs and flows through different moods and subtleties with sophisticated craftsmanship. Metal enough for the heshers, punk enough for the threshers, and rocking enough to satiate the haughtiest of purests; we in Turbo have patented our own “Nitro-Rock” concoction with our debut album… and this shit is potent.”

The album as a whole explained by the band:

Fast as Fvck is a sort of homage to true rock and roll in its most vicious and visceral form. Each of the seven tracks hit like a swift kick to the teeth from a whole new angle of attack, but the assault is far from a mindless battering to the eardrums. The album ebbs and flows through different moods and subtleties with sophisticated craftsmanship. Metal enough for the heshers, punk enough for the threshers, and rocking enough to satiate the haughtiest of purests; we in Turbo have patented our own “Nitro-Rock” concoction with our debut album… and this shit is potent.

Track by track explained by the band:

Burning the Wick is the intro track, and one of the first songs we wrote as a band. The opening lyric, “Been living like a fuckin’ reptile” spells out it’s topic in one succinct line. The song is essentially about how I’ve been living since Turbo was formed up until now, and these somewhat grave, but defiant lyrics are sarcastically juxtaposed on a fun, almost bouncy kind of party-punk-metal anthem. BtW sets up the middle-ground of the band’s sound throughout the rest of the album, and doesn’t give you time to catch your air before kicking into…

Alive, which is more or less a written testament to bad decisions with one of the most badass riffs on the album slapped on top of it. The song features a call-and-response guitar harmony and an anthemic chorus. There’s not too much more to say on it apart from being among the most fun songs on the album; definitely, one to do a keg stand along to.

Living on the Line is where the album starts to take a darker turn for a bit, and starts off with our best attempt at a THX sound-test with electric guitars, which feedback its way into a glitzy sunset-over-a-bad-part-of-town type riff. The song kicks in with me essentially turning my own lungs into sand, and then we’re straight cruising from there on out. The subject matter is actually about a good friend of mine who is a sex worker for a living. She got into a bit of a dicey situation at a party she was dancing at while I was trying to write lyrics for this one – getting threatened at gunpoint if she didn’t do certain things and whatnot. Super scary stuff. Perfect lyrical content. So I decided to immortalize that side of the industry lyrically, and thankfully she was a really good sport about it.

Silver Spoon is a real ripper and comes out of the gate wide-eyed with its teeth bared. It’d be insulting to tell you we all took a cue from our harder-metal roots for this one, it’s kind of obvious. It certainly still has that hard-rocking punky fun Turbo aesthetic, but it’s certainly tenser in its approach. We all come from very much a “from the ground-up” kind of background – cut from a somewhat rougher cloth. So it’s essentially a big middle finger to anyone with everything gifted to them trying to tell you how to live your life… and it’s pissed!

Make Bail is the first song we wrote. Sylvain and I were both breaking up with girls in pretty messy breakups, and it seemed appropriate that we test the band’s sound with a semi-poppy 4-minute-cruiser about it. The song is quite snarky, and honestly kind of savage, but I still stand by every word ahaha.

Last Call is the inner monologue of every bartender in every bar as soon as the lights come on and they just want to go home. Sylvain and I had just finished bartending a local rock-and-roll pub at the time and figured the idea was funny enough to actually run with. Musically speaking, the song is crunchy as all hell, has a great trade-off solo section, and definitely deserves a drink in each hand. Enjoy!

Serpent’s Coil is the ballad of the album – if you can call it that – and is certainly the most musically adventurous of the album’s pieces. We aren’t huge fans of love songs, so we didn’t want a Turbo ballad to be too gushy. So undertaking writing this piece, I decided to go for a much more sinister theme, and we think it fits beautifully. The song uses diabolical imagery, with a sound that mixes 80’s metal with rock and black metal elements, and a super catchy chorus. Definitely a fitting reprieve and end to an already pummelling album.

Like your disheveled uncle on Christmas morning, Turbo is trashed, pissed off, sleazy, mean, and sick of your shit. Coming at you hard and fast from the east coast of Canada, rages Turbo. An eclectic mix of rock, punk, and metal, this is what would happen if nitroglycerin had a soundtrack. High impact is the name of the game for them and they are bringing the grit to listeners around the world.

The members of Turbo, who were all in separate bands at the time, came together with the motivation to create something bigger and badder. Something that was gonna grab things right by the cojones and give them a good shake. Evan Frizzle (vocalist/guitar) and Sylvain Coderre (drums) were looking to start up a project, and when they met Lindsey Dicks (guitar) the juices started flowing. Todd Stanley (bass) held the same “Take No Prisoners” vision and immediately joined the fray. The musical influences cited by the band span across the heavy music spectrum, which results in an original, aggressive and varied listening experience.

With 100% collaborative effort, the themes that fuel Turbo lyrics revolve around personal experiences or things that just come up while they’re writing the music to a particular piece. The focus is that all the bandmates are able to relate to everything they sing about. It’s real, edgy, and visceral.

The highly potent debut album “Fast as Fvck” is on the way for 2020; metal enough for the heshers, punk enough for the threshers, and rocking enough to satiate the haughtiest of purests; welcome to Turbo’s patented “Nitro-Rock”.

Calgary’s riff wizards Woodhawk announce they will be trekking across Canada once again in support of their latest album “Violent Nature” released this past November. The tour will kick off in Vancouver on March 26th and wrap up in Nelson, BC on May 23rd (dates listed below).

The band comments:

“We’re thrilled to be hitting the road in Canada again. This will be our largest Canadian tour yet, going from coast to coast. Always happy to get to some new places and meet some new people, and return to our favourite places. We were thrilled with how well our latest record ‘Violent Nature’ did in Canada, so it only felt natural to roll into as many cities as possible. See you at the gig!”

Woodhawk‘s sophomore full length “Violent Nature” steps away from the science fiction themes evident on their previous release 2017’s “Beyond The Sun” and takes a more therapeutic turn. Putting a lot of time and production into the new album with producer Jesse Gander (Rain City Recorders), Woodhawk has worked really hard to capture energy and emotion.

The band explains:

“On previous efforts, we wrote from a science fiction standpoint. It’s where we all were at, at the point in our lives and reflected what we wanted to say and represent. Now, we believe in honesty and find the therapeutic side of music. This album has been an expressive honest view into our lives over the past 2 years.”

For fans of Black Sabbath, The Sword, and Clutch, “Violent Nature” is available on Woodhawk‘s Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, and all major music platforms.

About:
From the foot of the majestic Rocky Mountains hails Calgary, AB’s rock n’ roll trio Woodhawk. Masters of the straight-ahead riff rock, Woodhawk blends classic rock influences of Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy with smooth grooves, cranked amps, and heavy-hitting drums. The coalescence of melodious vocals, catchy riffs, and dynamic instrumentation creates a vast soundscape for the listener to explore. With lyrical themes of science fiction and sorcery to more recent themes of struggles and triumph, Woodhawk wears their heart on their sleeve.

Woodhawk began in 2014 with the release of a self-titled EP, followed by the critically acclaimed full length “Beyond The Sun” in 2017. A melodically rich and varied album, steeped in science fiction themes and packed with undeniably catchy riffs, “Beyond the Sun” cemented Woodhawk’s status as a desert rock band with unlimited potential to break through into the mainstream. Rather than taking their freewheelin’ brand of lyrical chrono-metal into the comfortable bracket of factory-produced R’n’R, Woodhawk elected to explore the road less traveled.

Returning to Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC during February 2019, Woodhawk worked with Jesse Gander (Anciients, Bison, 3 Inches of Blood, Japandroids, Pack AD) to record their sophomore album “Violent Nature”. Over the course of 2 weeks, Woodhawk tracked their strongest effort yet, producing songs that address the struggles of mental health straight on, and laying it all on the line. Woodhawk’s new material abandons the world of fantasy in pursuit of emotional authenticity and self-discovery.

Our heroes’ quest for clarity and independence has landed them on the precipice of ambition and accomplishment. It’s a true turning point of entry for Woodhawk’s lofty yet assertive life-goals. The elegant anthems and pulsing chords of the next phase in the group’s sonic evolution can scarcely be contained. Grounded with one foot in the present and another in the dynamic future, Woodhawk’s outlook is as boundless as their command of their genre. With the new album due out on November 2, 2019, their intelligence, inventiveness and an uncanny knack for generating timeless tunes are ready to flood the senses and tug at the spirit with an easy-going nonchalance that embraces the audience with confidence and jean-jacketed arms.

Woodhawk features guitarist Turner Midzain, bassist Mike Badmington, and drummer Kevin Nelson. They have taken the stage at the Commodore Ballroom, Sled Island, and UP+DT, in addition to multiple Canadian tours. They have also shared the stage in support of Airbourne, Truckfighters, Elder, and The Shrine. Woodhawk has their sights set on touring North America and Europe to bring their highly energetic and captivating live performance to new audiences.

“Their brand of this style sounds far more refreshing and has a modern rock ‘n roll kind of aura to go along, slightly ringing in signs of alternative influence. The end result is as if Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy had a child born in the age of Chevelle. With that said, this is immaculate. ” – Indy Metal Vault

“Violent Nature kicks off with the slithering riffs of “Snake in the Grass,” which comes crawling up slowly before striking with a venomous fuzz-riffy attack, and a soaring, fist-raising chorus. “Weightless Light” gets my head nodding right away with a solid stoner rock riff, while giving off a pretty decent Monster Truck vibe in the chorus – I can see why they made it the pre-release single.” – Hellbound

“This is what music is about. When you put yourself out there, you connect with others on a deeper level and that’s always a win.” – The Music Below

“going by the lead single “Weightless Light” it seems like whatever they’re making the songs about, Woodhawk still bring the same sense of songcraft to their material, which is always good to know.” – The Obelisk

Featuring forty-six minutes of pure metal, LOST LEGACY‘s sophomore release is a concept album serving as an act II to their debut full length, which was inspired by the tragedy of 9/11.

The band explains:

“The concept of ‘In The Name of Freedom’ is our way to thank our men and women of the armed forces for their sacrifice. It’s not about glorifying war, but these gallant people give so much and are often forgotten.”

The first single, ‘Front Line’, is a melodic track that has a heavy breakdown rhythm section prior to a soaring guitar solo. Dave Franco’s vocals are like a cannon and make this song a headbanger for everyone.

LOST LEGACY has been around since 1998 and their dedication to their craft shows. Having four excellent musicians and a vocalist that can play guitar and write riffs makes for a plethora of ideas. With Franco’s vocal capacity and range, it has transformed them to write music that enhances his vocal performances and gives the band the freedom to play intellectual metal.

LOST LEGACY discusses their expectations of the album:

“We believe that this album is a genuine representation of how we sound in a live setting. We take great pride in putting on a great show and when we approached this record, we wanted to have a live band feeling. Our fans will be pleased with the songs, the sound, and the production. The music has catchy guitar-driven riffs and soaring vocals. We promise it will deliver great energy and inspiration to fans of classic power metal.”

“NY’s Lost Legacy Has Been Turning Out the Metal for Over Ten Years. A Killer Six Piece Band Who Know Their Instruments And How To Use Them. Raw Power And Pure Talent Is What You Get.” – Mike The Big Cheese, Heavy Metal Mayhem

“Lost Legacy a metal band out of Bronx NY, that formed in 1998 The latest album “”The Aftermath” came out in 2009 which was a tribute to those who lost their lives in 9/11. Some of the songs are Towers, Time Will Heal, Light The Candles, their music is packed with energy, catchy riffs and powerful vocals. A tour de Force.” – Robin Souls, Metal Messiah Radio

“It has been my pleasure to work with the band members of Lost Legacy. I found them on social media back in 2008 and was immediately drawn in by the timbre of David Franco’s voice, the guitar riffs are executed in their presentation, and the bass and drums finish off this bands talent by providing a solid foundation for metal madness at its best! Their original music content is well written and has a powerful impact, as in one of their songs Towers. Their music will engulf you and take you on a journey, one that no one would easily forget. The metal world needs to move over and make room for Lost Legacy.” Syria, Producer, and former DJ on Renegade Radio
