“Jolting chugs and booming drums will get heads moving as the vocals crackle with passion way up in the stratosphere, and near the end the music receives a surge of energy, through a rapid riff-pulse and bombastic percussion, as a prelude to a blazing finale in which all the song’s ingredients, including Alyssa‘s intense, spine-tingling voice, unite in a display of tragic magnificence. (You’ll probably find by then that the song has also gotten well and truly stuck in your head.)” – No Clean Singing (single – I’ve Made It To Hell) (2023)

About The Single Artwork:

The artwork has a very gothic atmosphere and hand-drawn feel with an emphasis on bringing some mystery to the music while still relating directly to the lyrics themselves. It really captures the vibe of the album as a whole. Its meant to suck you into the cemetery leaving you feeling like you’re not quite alone and the green color really makes it feel creepier rather than desolate.

About the single as a whole:
The track is faster paced than songs we’ve done in the past, but still keeps the dark lyrical themes, giving it an interesting contrast between music and words. Once the song has built up, the chorus unleashes an incredibly catchy melody that really sticks with you. It’s heavy, dark, and movable all in one.

Unleashing their self-titled debut album in 2023, Dead Fields Of Woolwich unveils their first single “Cult of The Cemetery” off their forthcoming sophomore album “Monarch of The Grave” due out late this year.

Dead Fields Of Woolwich has its beginnings going back to the autumn of 2020 in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, when multi-instrumentalist Kye Bell (Withing Nostalgia, Falamh) created a gloomy, doom metal project focused on dreary lyrics and a gothic-laden sound. Recruiting Alyssa Broere on vocals, the dark twosome began their musical journey. Now, for their next follow-up and second album, the duo has grown to a full-fledged band with the addition of guitarist Dave Strba, bassist Greg Meir, and drummer Kyle Taylor.

Band founder and guitarist Kye Bell explains further on the band’s evolution:

“The sound has evolved since the first release. When writing the first album, the focus was more on powerful chords and drudging riffs. Those things are still there in small doses, but this album is full of harder-hitting songs and much more memorable parts that stick with you after the listen is done. This album breaks away from the typical Doom formula and kind of takes on its own shape. The songwriting has become more refined over time as well, lyrics are more concrete with well-defined concepts. I feel like this particular single, Cult of the Cemetery, will be very well received due to the more rock-rounded nature of the song while still maintaining its heaviness and its foot firmly planted in the metal realm. It opens the doors to a different audience, yet still stays true to the dark nature of the band.”

With its very memorable riffs, this new single is catchy hell and dark as the grave it speaks of. Melodic and melancholic, it is recommended for fans of Paradise Lost, Type O Negative, and Katatonia.

Blackened Doom TIGGUO COBAUC Unleashes New Music Video “Ascended Deliverance” ft. Guest Vocals Chelsea Marrow (Voraath, Visitant)

L-R – Luca Martello – Guitars, Craig Phillips – Vocals, Antoine Mouquod – Drums

UK-blackened doom trio Tigguo Cobauc are unleashing their latest music video “Ascended Deliverance” featuring guest vocals from Chelsea Marrow (Voraath, Visitant). The song itself is a reworked version of the album track from 2024’s “Fountains of Anguish,” released via Exitus Stratagem Records.

With a focus on always giving the listener the most intense and emotional experience, no more so than on the live stage. Tigguo Cobauc is the soundtrack to your darkest desires, as they explain the concept of the song and video:

“The track opens with the haunting pulse of a heartbeat, accompanied by the creeping distortion of industrial noise, drawing the listener into a space of tension and unease. As the first notes of the story unfold, the listener is already submerged in a melodic nightmare—a dreamscape that’s as surreal as it is sinister. The narrative follows a man, lost in his disillusionment with the world, burdened by the weight of life’s cruelty and suffering. Desperate for answers, he becomes obsessed with confronting God directly, seeking retribution for the pain he’s endured. When the conventional means of prayer, the church, and the promises of faith offer no solace, he grows increasingly frustrated and turns to darker paths.

His search leads him to a witch, a figure said to possess the ability to commune with angels, beings who might offer the answers he seeks. The witch, aware of the risks, warns him that the power to speak with such celestial beings is not to be taken lightly; without proper guidance, the consequences could be catastrophic. But driven by desperation and a growing sense of arrogance, the man dismisses the warning. He murders the witch in cold blood, seizing the book of forbidden spells she possessed. With reckless abandon, he chants the incantation, his voice trembling with anticipation and fear.

In that moment, an angel appears—not a being of divine grace, but one of wrath and inevitability. The angel, sensing the man’s hubris and defiance, consumes him entirely. The track climaxes with a surge of chaos and intensity as the angel’s judgment is carried out. The heartbeat, which has been a steady rhythm throughout, begins to slow, fading as the man succumbs to his fate.

The track closes with the silence that follows his death—a chilling, final echo that serves as both a literal and metaphorical end. This tale, woven into the fabric of the music, is a cautionary one—a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the folly of trying to command forces beyond one’s understanding. It is a warning against acting without caution, against chasing something that may not be meant for you. And, above all, it underscores the truth that sometimes, when you wish for something too fervently, you may just get it—and the consequences may be far worse than you ever imagined.”

The music video for “Ascended Deliverance” can be seen and heard via its premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

Forged by ancient magic deep in the sandstone depths of Nottingham, UK, Tigguo Cobauc‘s spellbinding guitar riffs over primal rhythm are the sound of your darkest desires. The band’s birth into the constellations has been steeped in the murky depths of Death/Doom, cloaked in a sludgy resonance. They have evolved from these beginnings, transcending into realms infused with black metal’s ethereal atmospheres, where shadows and intensity intertwine.

Their sophomore record, “Fountains of Anguish,” is an amalgamation of classic black metal, reinterpreted with a modern sensibility, and infused with doomy elements that evoke a sense of atmospheric weight. Tigguo Cobauc has seamlessly integrated keyboards into their compositions, adding depth and texture to enhance the listening experience. Through this unique blend, they aspire to infuse their music with a distinctive touch of originality, creating a soundscape that resonates with the genre’s traditions and contemporary influences.

Recommended for fans of Celtic Frost, Bathory, and Venom, “Fountains of Anguish” is available at the following links:

“this was a fantastic album, and it brought Doom to a whole new level for me, because the band was bold, and unafraid to explore uncharted territory, while keeping their roots strong. 8/10” – Metal-Temple

“IIn the waning days of 2024 comes quite a surprise…one of the best doom albums of the year from an unknown band who clearly know what they are doing. This record is full of crushing riffs, dark melodies and an otherworldly atmosphere. In every way this is an absorbing listen.n the waning days of 2024 comes quite a surprise…one of the best doom albums of the year from an unknown band who clearly know what they are doing…. Definitely track this one down!” – Wormwood Chronicles

“Unlike many of their contemporaries, Tigguo Cobauc let the slimy guitars carry the mix rather than hide under the keyboards. ‘The Darkest Emperor’ starts like an agonising piece of death-doom before it uses the influence of Bathory to accelerate into a higher gear. You’ll hear the early Celtic Frost records in this song, but the keyboards belong in the straight-to-video horror film market of the 1980s. Each elongated ripped-windpipe vocal feels like the testimony of a man who knows his fate is to be hung, drawn and quartered. The rhythms in ‘Inner Disaster’ change tempo as easily as snow turns to slush…. Often, extreme metal bands go through the motions of screaming in pain, but Tiggou Cobauc mean it. They love to menace the listener like the early legends of underground metal. And they embrace the dramatic rather than shy away from it…. Most artists want to deliver the perfect steak, but Tigguo Cobauc would like you to gorge on the gristle and enjoy the fat dribbling on your chin. Their song structures appear to be easy to grasp, but they’re more complex on second listen. 8/10” – Scream Blast Repeat

“A production to seek out by those who enjoy extreme metal explored with a bit of an off kilter intent and an atmospheric laden orientation.” – Viking in the Wilderness

“If I had to name Tigguo Cobauc’s musical style, it would be doomizing black heavy metal.
You won’t regret the time spent listening to their music!” – Margoth PDF Webzine

“refreshing and provides a listening experience designed to be consumed in one sitting. Trust me, if you love Blackened Sludge and Doom, there’ll be more than one sitting for you listening to this work of art…. the production is impressive, hitting the sweet spot of providing sharpness and clarity whilst retaining a subtle touch of grit and rawness that the genre demands and avoiding being overly polished.” – Ever-Metal

“an album of the year contender.” – Black Metal Archives

“I hope this album brings fans back to the era when metal and hard rock ruled the scene. Headbangers Ball was kicking, and it wasn’t out of the ordinary to turn on MTV and see Metallica’s One cranking. Tasty, heavy metal and hard rock with cool glammed-out solos and a ballad. I think it blends a few genres like grunge and metal at times.  The album flows like some of my playlists, and I would imagine most people’s playlists. I hope that fans will enjoy the mellow acoustic/ballad intros that transition into hard rock/ metal flows. I wanted these songs to reach rock fans and metal fans alike. I’ve been in metal bands for a long time and love the brutality Karl and Dan brought to Freya and The Last Season, but I wanted to reach a broader audience. So I chose to tone the heavy vocals back and sing the album. At times, it reminds me of Dave Mustaine, James Hetfield, and Layne Staley. Every once in a while, I’m like, that kind of sounds like Bon Jovi or Scott Weiland. It’s funny because I never really listened to STP, only in passing. I think ultimately, whether it’s my metal, rock, or grunge influences coming through in these songs, it sounds like the era of music I grew up listening to. Late 90s, early 2000s. I like that about this album.” – Ethan D. Henry

“One-man solo band ASHES OF THE SUN is the work of drummer / filmmaker Ethan D. Henry and he’s just dropped his new single, “A New Way To Die” from the forthcoming full length album “Gods With Machines” (Aug. 1st). Razor sharp riffs, heavy duty percussion and an overdrive rhythm section rule on “A New Way To Die” and it’s pretty glorious. We’ve had a chance to preview the entire album and it’s a hard rock juggernaut just waiting to be unleashed that is sure to please. ========================================================

About The Album Artwork:

Ethan made the artwork for the album to represent not only the story of the album, but also based on stuff he’s interested in. Like the ancient alien God connection. Astral projection and deeper awareness of who we are spiritually.

About The Album:

The album ultimately is about having faith in god and constantly questioning it. Feeling that you’re being lied to by the people you look up to and trust. It’s about being yourself and finding your own spiritual path and god.

Track Listing:

1. Sophisticated Clowns

Is about People trusting their government and eventually seeing through the lies. Their leadership ultimately pushes its people to question everything and start losing faith in their leadership.

2. Save the World

This track is about one of the planet’s native characters finding a child of the gods. The child communicates with them, asking to be returned to where it came from through telekinesis. Unsure if they want to take the task, the tribe supports the idea of returning the child before it angers the gods, potentially causing problems for the locals and their community.

3. Forced to Kill

Is about the chosen one venturing out to return the child and discovering the truth about their gods. He soon realizes they are not who they appear to be. He is threatened by the gods to keep his mouth shut, and he will live to see another day. They spare him because of his good deed. But leave him deep in the wild to fend for himself on his return home.

4. The Elephant

The chosen one has a long journey home. He looks to the sky and to the gods for help. But his prayers don’t get answered…they never get answered. He lost and is disappointed with his so-called gods, and his faith is gone. He doesn’t know where to turn and loses his faith and fears that there is no one looking over us.

5.  A New Way to Die

The chosen one is lost and giving up. He has lost his faith and doesn’t have the drive to carry on when he hallucinates a child taunting him. He cannot catch the child and continues to follow deeper into the wild. Eventually, he concludes this is the end and there is no hope. No one will find him. No one will save him. There is no heaven. We live in hell. What’s the point go going on? It’s time to throw in the towel.

6. Gods with Machines

Our hero is rescued by his tribe. tired, weak, Delirious, and malnourished. He tells the story of what he experienced and how the gods aren’t really gods. He drifts in and out and has visions of Gods and angels. They aren’t like the ones who live on their planet. They tell him it’s okay and they do exist. He drifts in and out between reality and his visions.

7. The Lost Ones

The local government seeks to speak with the chosen one and threaten him to keep his mouth shut about what he saw. His tribe and community stand up against the leaders and support their champion. Their aggressive approach to address the hero leads the community to question their leadership and to listen again to the chosen one and his story of False gods and deception.

8. Here to Stay

This song is about the chosen one and his community accepting the reality that the gods are not what they appear, The Leaders are in league with these false gods. As a whole, they decide to take their lives, land, and religion back. It’s time to unite and stand up.

9. They Bleed Just Like You

The people, tribe, and community are led by the chosen one to the gates of paradise, where the gods reside. Once inside, they ravage the communities within the walls. During their cleansing, they soon realize the gods aren’t fighting back and they aren’t special or even much different then they are. In fact, these people have been lied to but their leadership and have been led to believe the tribes and communities were wild savage animals and didn’t have the ability to understand how to be civil, how to work as a community, how to love. Soon, both sides realize they have been lied to by the same people and decide to work together and take back paradise and take back their freedom. Once they overthrow their tyrants, they learn to live in peace in paradise and have the freedom to find their own way of life and find their own version of god.

ASHES OF THE SUN is the solo project of longtime FREYA contributor Ethan D.  Henry. Freya was formed in 2001 by three members of the legendary straight edge/ Vegan band EARTH CRISIS by bassist Ian Edwards, guitarist Eric Edwards, and vocalist  Karl Buechner. Ethan joined Freya in 2004, touring with the group for their first release on VICTORY RECORDS, AS THE LAST LIGHT DRAINS.

Since its conception in 2001, Freya has been writing music, making videos, and touring in the metal and hardcore scenes. They have been featured on MTV’s Room Raiders,  Road Rules, and Headbangers Ball. More recently, they have had their music on the hit  Television show Shameless, which airs on Showtime. Freya has also been featured in  Kerrang, Decibel, Amp, and Metal Hammer magazines, to name a few.

Henry has been working with Freya since 2004 – 2008, 2017-present. He joined Freya as a temp to tour with the band as the last light drains, until becoming a full member in  2004. He co-wrote LIFT THE CURSE ( VICTORY RECORDS), THOUSAND YARD  STARE ( UPSTATE RECORDS) FIGHT AS ONE (UPSTATE RECORDS )  BLOODTHIRST ( UPSTATE RECORDS )

In 2007, Freya went to Europe for the HELL ON EARTH tour with WALLS OF  JERICHO, ALL SHALL PERISH, BORN FROM PAIN, AND FROM A SECOND  STORY WINDOW. Henry says, “ Going to Europe on the Hell on Earth tour was such an amazing experience for me. I had been touring the States and Canada for years, but doing that tour, with those bands…That was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Very Grateful to have been able to do it. “

In addition to his duties with Freya, Ethan also co-wrote and performed on THE LAST album titled CALLED IT CIVILIZATION, released on SURFACE  RECORDS in 2003. The Last season featured frontman Dan Johnson from BLOOD  RUNS BLACK, GODBELOW, and THE UNHOLY based out of Syracuse, N.Y..  GODBELOW later became the hard rock band BRAND NEW SIN.

Ethan has worn many hats over the years with his bands. Whether he needed to play bass, guitar, or drums, he was always up for the challenge. “ I was always a bass player with guitar second in my comfort zone. I could always sing, but I wasn’t like great at it. I  don’t know when it happened, like when I became good enough to play any instrument, if we needed a drummer or guitar player, I was like…Okay, I’ll give it a shot. Then one day I was a Drummer, I guess? I think I have impostor syndrome. ha”

Eventually, Henry had compiled a huge catalog of songs he had written over the years.  Unsure what to do with them, He sat in his studio and started to record them. Not sure what would become of them, He had his friend Jason “Jocko” Randle at  CAPTURE.STUDIO (Syracuse, N.Y.) to take a listen and put his touch on it. After a few mix and master sessions, Ethan decided his eclectic song list was cohesive enough to make an album. Thus, ASHES OF THE SUN was born.

An alternative, metallic, grungy style of music that spans over a few genres. “If  Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth had a baby with Alice in Chains, Queens of the Stone Age, and the Foo Fighters, that’s Ashes of the Sun.” – Ethan D. Henry

HELLFOX Unveils Music Video “Atlas”

New Album “The Spectrum of Human Gravity” Out June 2025 via Rockshots Records

Following the haunting release of “Seaweed Braids,” Italian all-female melodic death metal band Hellfox returns with a powerful new chapter: “Atlas,” the second single from their upcoming album “The Spectrum Of Human Gravity,” due out via Rockshots Records.

Combining heavy melodic death metal foundations with modern textures and acidic synths, “Atlas” is a crushing and introspective anthem. Lyrically, the song draws on the myth of the Titan condemned to bear the weight of the sky — a metaphor for the emotional burdens we carry and the silent expectations imposed by society. “We have no control over what happens around us,” the band explains, “but letting go of that weight may be the most liberating act of all.”

Hellfox’s music thrives on contrast: dual female vocals (melodic and growled), distorted layers, and atmospheric electronics merge into an emotional and immersive sound. With influences ranging from Amorphis and In Flames to Dark Tranquillity, the band has forged a distinctive identity that breaks away from traditional tropes, embracing vulnerability, rage, beauty, and discomfort in equal measure.

“The Spectrum of Human Gravity” is a conceptual journey into the depths of the human psyche. It explores difficult yet universal emotions—loneliness, self-doubt, alienation—through allegorical storytelling and striking visual metaphors. Each song gives voice to a different “face of the self,” capturing the chaos and coherence that define our inner worlds.

With “Atlas“, Hellfox once again demonstrates their ability to balance emotional weight with sonic power, delivering a track that is as crushing as it is cathartic.

Visually intense and emotionally charged, the video captures the psychological depth and inner conflict that define the song. With a dark and cinematic aesthetic, it mirrors the suffocating stillness of insomnia and the emotional weight we often carry in silence.

“We wanted the visuals to reflect that moment when everything feels heavy — and yet something inside pushes to break free,” the band explains.

The video reinforces Hellfox’s core message: embracing vulnerability without fear and finding power in the act of letting go.

ABOUT:

HELLFOX is an ALL FEMALE alternative metal (alt-metal) band with melodic death tendencies. Despite the four completely different musical backgrounds, we share a common inspiration to Amorphis, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity as far as composition is concerned, while for the choice of sounds we intended to move away from the Symphonic, recognizably feminine scenario to include acid and distorted synths so that we could create modern atmospheres that more closely met our tastes and better married the pop timbre of the melodic vocals. The dualism of HELLFOX is not meant to be understood on a conflicting level, it is instead the result of different voices within the human soul, different faces if you will, that mingle and generate the person itself, in its entirety, that although they seem to struggle, they coexist and create harmony and balance. We don’t use masks to conform to a mass, nor do we want to stand out at all costs, we just want to be ourselves in a society where normality is only a surface, the abyss instead is made up of so many facets of personality, both for the group and especially for the individual human being. Ours is a message within everyone’s reach, in which one can recognize oneself: that little voice in the head that either draws you in or drives you away… Because for us, nothing is normal, nothing is different.

EPK – Z-Cocoon – Angels (2025)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“We are extremely excited to release our new EP, Angels, to the world! It’s the first recordings that were performed as a band, and everything recorded was mixed in-house at Casa Cocoon. Very proud of the outcome. We got a lot more music coming after this EP and can’t wait to keep this cocoon train rolling. If you’re into the classics such as Dio, Sabbath, Deep Purple, or blues guys such as Hendrix, Trower, Stevie Ray, or just dig stoner rock/ doom metal but are looking for something a little different, THEN TAKE A LISTEN AND PUT IT LOUD!”” – Z-Cocoon

“Z-Cocoon is firmly grounded in blues-heavy stoner rock, it also shows an awareness of other sides of rock and hip-hop that often the sub-genre completely walls itself off from. Little things like short interjections from the backing vocals, a willingness to put vocals ahead of guitars, and a thick-as-fuck kick drum sound — tweaks like that combine with the Sabbathian riffs and dynamic vocals for a pretty addictive listen.” – Invisible Oranges

“This EP does a great job of showcasing Zolla’s chops as a songwriter and as a performer. I personally find Zolla to be a great vocalist, and each of the tracks on here allow him to flex his mid-to-high range voice and sort of nasally cadence. I love the way he adds a rasp into his voice.” – Where Strides the Behemoth

Second song – Just Tell Me – has an “Audioslave” quality to it with Marc’s vocals and some of the music that appears at the start. However, Marc switches things up a bit and plays some classic “Hard Rock” melodies and superb vocals for the standout song on the EP. – Outlaws of the Sun Blog

=============================================

About The EP Artwork:

I really love collecting comics, so I wanted something similar to Batman. My girlfriend Camille Grenier is very good at drawing and designing tattoos, so I mentioned I wanted a bat/gargoyle looking down on the city with a Fender Strat, sort of like the gargoyle is coming back from the dead to show the city what he’s got waiting to show his music. The dark/gothic aesthetic fits in with how the music feels. A mix of comic/dark/gothic aesthetic and the guitar is put on the cover to pay homage to most blues album covers, where they’re holding their guitar or a Fender Strat that always looked cool.

About The EP:
It’s a mix of heavy blues meets doom metal, meets rock n roll. Heavy grooving riffs and dark vocals with slashing swinging solos. Lyrically inspired by comics and personal experiences.

Track by Track:

1. Dr. Crane: heavy bluesy song about Dr.Crane, aka The Scarecrow (one of the villains in the Batman Universe)

2. Truth Don’t Matter: exactly what the title says. Very Pentagram-inspired riff, but then catchy. I was actually listening to a lot of Biggie Smalls to get the inspiration to cut instruments so the vocals stand out in the “truth don’t matter” hook.

3. For My Life: Fiction about protecting my home from invading demons, spirits, and vampires. I would say inspired by horror movies and comics in general. Long song with a heavy doom metal style riff and a breakdown section to mix it up a little bit, and obviously a nice guitar solo.

L to R: Marc Zolla (Guitar/Vocals), Michel Paradis (Drums), John Burton (Bass)

Z-Cocoon originally started as solo project by Marc Zolla in 2017 with many self released EPs and singles. It is now a power trio mixing elements of stoner rock, heavy blues and classic heavy metal. The new EP Angels recorded by Zolla, Johnny B and Michel in studio features 3 new songs. Electrically-charged heavy music with savage guitar jabs, rockin’ blues and hot solos!

WOODHAWK Announce Performance At LOUD AS HELL OPEN AIR FEST w/ REVOCATION, FIRST FRAGMENT and more!

+ New Album “Love Finds A Way” Out June 6th, 2025

Portrait by Mark Kowalchuk

Calgary, Canada’s fuzz rock trio Woodhawk announces they are performing on August 3rd, day three of this year’s LOUD AS HELL OPEN AIR FESTIVAL in Drumheller, AB alongside Revocation, Cyborg Octopus, Beguiler, Thirteen Goats, Famous Strangers, and more! Full details on LAH can be found at www.loudashell.ca.

“We are stoked to be playing Loud as Hell this year. And the same day as Revocation, no less! Such an awesome festival in Drumheller, and we are looking forward to bringing a nice afternoon rock n’ roll set to the festival,” adds the band.

Woodhawk is playing in support of their third studio album, “Love Finds A Way”, and their first full-length release in six years, following 2019’s “Violent Nature”. Woodhawk‘s distinctive fusion of classic hard rock and modern stoner metal continues to captivate audiences and earn them a devoted fan base who enjoy Black Sabbath, The Sword, Priestess, and Red Fang.

“Love Finds A Way is a journey through the last couple of years. All of us went through some hard times, and to no surprise, the pandemic wasn’t much better! We weren’t sure if we would continue being a band or not. But we prevailed and are stronger than ever. It’s about love and friendship. And getting through things together. Checking in on your loved ones and friends,” says the band.

Woodhawk has shared two singles, “Relapser” and “Strangers Ever After,” to build momentum for the June 6th release of “Love Finds A Way”, via Grand Hand Records. “Strangers Ever After” showcases the band’s signature blend of classic hard rock sensibilities and modern stoner metal influences, delivering the infectious grooves and memorable hooks that have earned them a devoted following since their formation in 2014. “Relapser” is an explosive track that showcases the band’s evolution while staying true to their foundations in heavy, riff-driven rock. It’s got the heaviness their fans expect, but with the emotional honesty that’s become increasingly important in their songwriting. This song especially captures that journey of struggling, falling back into old patterns, but ultimately fighting to move forward.

“Their brand of this style sounds far more refreshing and has a modern rock ‘n roll kind of aura to go along, slightly ringing in signs of alternative influence. The end result is as if Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy had a child born in the age of Chevelle. With that said, this is immaculate. ” – Indy Metal Vault (Violent Nature – 2019)

“this is really the kind of rock that fans of classic U.K. metal in the ’70s will be instantly taken with. Sounds really good turned-up really loud, which is always a good test.” – Vancouver Sun (Violent Nature – 2019)

“Violent Nature kicks off with the slithering riffs of “Snake in the Grass,” which comes crawling up slowly before striking with a venomous fuzz-riffy attack, and a soaring, fist-raising chorus. “Weightless Light” gets my head nodding right away with a solid stoner rock riff, while giving off a pretty decent Monster Truck vibe in the chorus – I can see why they made it the pre-release single.” – Hellbound (Violent Nature – 2019)

“This is what music is about. When you put yourself out there, you connect with others on a deeper level and that’s always a win.” – The Music Below (Violent Nature – 2019)

“Violent Nature surpasses their debut and then some; the Rocky Mountain trio have harnessed the best of the past, given it a fresh coat of paint, made me smile and just enjoy rock and roll in its purest form…” – The Sleeping Shaman (Violent Nature – 2019)

“going by the lead single “Weightless Light” it seems like whatever they’re making the songs about, Woodhawk still bring the same sense of songcraft to their material, which is always good to know.” – The Obelisk (Violent Nature – 2019)

There can only be one! Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2025 national final will be held on Saturday, May 31st in Vancouver, BC, at the Rickshaw Theatre where one unsigned Canadian band will be crowned champion and perform at one of the world’s most prestigious and largest already sold-out metal festivals Wacken Open Air (July 30th – August 2nd) (Attendance of over 80,000 people in Wacken, Germany for over 30 years).

After multiple battles across the country that began in January of this year, the final four Canadian bands will bring their onslaught of metal and be judged by a panel of music industry judges that include BRITTNEY SLAYES (Unleash The Archers), CLAINE GORGOTH LAMB (The Hallowed Catharsis, Misyrion), JJ TARTAGLIA (Canadian Organizer of Wacken Metal Battle Canada), JJ CAITHCART (Founder of SCRAPE Records and Host of Different Stages Radio), KRIS SCHULZ (Founder of Empower Through Music and Owner of Horizon School of Music), ABELARDO MAYORAL (Founder, Owner, and Operator of The Invisible Orange and OrangeTickets), STAN SCHINNERS (Owner of Broken Neck Radio), CHRIS GONDA (V13.net), JUSTIN DOBBIN (Owner and President of Main Stage Rehearsal Studios). Door Time at 6 pm PST. Tickets available at https://orangetickets.ca/detalles_evento.php?id_evento=1914

“Once again, we are at our Finals for the Metal Battle, and it’s a very special one this year, as we host them in Vancouver for the first time! What a testament to Canadian talent we have, showcasing some of the top metal acts from across our great country, all leading to this final showdown in VanCity. Stoked to make the trek to attend and can’t wait to see who our champions bound for Wacken Open Air will be,” comments WMBC national organizer JJ Tartaglia.

British Columbia WMBC promoter Abelardo Mayoral adds:

“There has been a lot of excitement about the Metal Battle Canada taking place in Vancouver throughout the different elimination rounds. The response and attendance to each round have been outstanding. I know Vancouver is ready to welcome bands and fans from all over the country, and of course, to showcase the talent, strength, and unity that the metal scene in all of BC has.”

Winning their territorial battles respectively, the final four are the following:

Hamilton, ON’s KILLOTINE is the hammer that falls without warning—relentless, unforgiving, and all-consuming. Their riffs shred through the air like jagged steel, solos burn with a fury that can’t be tamed, and blasts hit like an explosion in your chest. They don’t care about trends or softening the blow. Every note is a direct attack, every show a brutal assault. Headbanging is inevitable, the adrenaline is relentless, and the chaos is total. This is metal in its rawest, most savage form. With their “take everything, leave only metal” mentality, Killotine isn’t here to play nice. They deliver exactly what the maniacs demand—pure, unfiltered aggression. No filler, no fake. Just a full-throttle, all-out assault that doesn’t let up, leaving you wrecked and addicted to the chaos. KILLOTINE IS COMING. STAY OUT OF THE WAY OR GET DESTROYED.

0 Rockshots Records – Out Now! Italian Folk Metal AEXYLIUM’s New Album “Myth of Mankind” + Music Video “Hexe”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 26, 2025

Rockshots Records – Out Now! Italian Folk Metal AEXYLIUM’s New Album “Myth of Mankind” + Music Video “Hexe”

Italian folk metal band Aexylium proudly returns with their third studio album, “Myth of Mankind,” out now via Rockshots Records. With this new chapter, the band takes a decisive step forward in style and substance, offering their most mature and focused work.

Formed in 2014, Aexylium has always stood out for its ability to merge the raw intensity of modern metal with the warm, evocative tones of traditional instruments, building a sound that is both powerful and atmospheric. With “Myth of Mankind,” the band pushes that blend even further, refining every aspect of their songwriting and production while exploring deeper, more introspective themes. The album moves away from the more mythological narratives of the past, instead embracing abstract reflections on the human condition, identity, and the complexity of existence in the modern world.

Musically, “Myth of Mankind” is an intense yet melodic journey, built on technical guitar work, immersive orchestration, and the interplay between aggression and elegance. The album also marks a turning point in the band’s lineup, introducing vocalist Sam Biganzoli, whose expressive and multifaceted vocal range brings new emotional depth and narrative strength. Alongside him, drummer Alberto Mezzanotte (ex-Frozen Crown, Nekomata, Apple Sauce) and guitarist Luca Perrone (founder of Apple Sauce) contributed to a renewed creative energy that flows through every track on the record.

To celebrate the album’s release, Aexylium has also unveiled the official music video for the track “Hexe”, available now on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/AAx3n bFgl8I

“Hexe” perfectly represents the spirit of the album—a high-impact, rhythm-driven song that combines rich melodic lines with a powerful vocal performance from Sam Biganzoli delivering intensity and momentum without ever losing the folk essence that defines the band’s DNA. Visually and sonically, the video amplifies the track’s energy and emotion, offering a powerful introduction to the album’s vision.

With previous albums “Tales from This Land” (2018) and “The Fifth Season” (2021), Aexylium laid the groundwork for their identity within the folk metal genre. But with “Myth of Mankind”, they go further, crafting a sound that is not only rooted in tradition but shaped by modern sensibilities, progressive elements, and a cinematic scope. The result is an album that speaks both to long-time genre fans and to those seeking a richer, more evolved take on folk metal.

Aexylium’s music draws inspiration from acts like Eluveitie, Korpiklaani, Amorphis, Folkstone, Alestorm, and Mago de Oz, yet remains unmistakably their own. With “Myth of Mankind”, the band reaffirms its place as one of Italy’s most promising names in the scene, ready to leave a mark far beyond national borders.

The album was recorded by Davide Tavecchia at Twilight Studio and features stunning artwork created by the renowned artist Gustavo Sazes (Arch Enemy, Machine Head, Amaranthe).

=============================================

About The Single Artwork

The artwork was created by Mark Erskine, who also did the Unearthly Will cover art. It strongly resonates with the track’s concept. The song itself is rooted in the mythological hero’s journey, using Tolkien-like storytelling to explore the duality of good and evil.

About the single as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

Faith and Death Pt. I is themed around The Lord of the Rings. Part one speaks to the side of evil. This track was written from the perspective of Mordor’s legions. Moreover, it touches on the eternal struggle of light and dark and how both cannot survive without the other. A shadow cannot exist without the light.

Death—the only thing certain for all mortals. If neither side can agree on which god to worship, which philosophy to follow, or what is right and wrong, one thing is undeniably and indiscriminately certain: death.

Unleashing their third studio release “Unearthly Will” in 2023 and 2024 single / video ”Morningstar”, Regina, Canada’s symphonic death metal outfit Augurium returns with their first taste of new music in 2025 for fans in the lead up to their opening support for progressive death masters and hometown heroes Into Eternity on May 17th. (details below).

Fans of the band are in for a positive surprise. It’s still the same Augurium they’ve been listening to since Unearthly Will, but this song taps into a more emotional side.

“For us as a band, it represents a sort of new Augurium, still within the same style we’ve been playing since 2021, yet naturally evolving. The goal was to create a dramatic listening experience—almost like the progression of a film. There are highs and lows, emotionally driven sections, movements that depict scenes in a hero’s journey, and crushing, deafening moments. This is the first half of a sonic saga portraying the struggle between opposing forces,” adds guitarist Cejay Carnochan.

Entitled “Faith & Death Pt. I.”, the track is the first chapter of an epic two-part symphonic death metal series. The song is rooted in the mythological hero’s journey, using Tolkien-like storytelling to explore the duality of good and evil, which resonates in its artwork created by Mark Erskine, who also did Augurium’s Unearthly Will cover art.
