Extreme Metal Music – Venice’s MEMBRANCE Pay Tribute To Lost Sailors In New Music Video “Marubio”

New Album “Undead Island” Out June 2023

Italian death metallers Membrance are unleashing their second second single “Marubio” accompanied by a new music video to support the release of their new album “Undead Island” due out on June 23 2023 via Extreme Metal Music, a subsidiary of Rockshots Records.

“Here in Venice, we say Marubio when there is bad weather coming, the sky darkens, the wind rises, and you can hear the thunder from the darkest clouds grouping overhead. It often comes from the sea. Anyone who doesn’t pay attention to the marubio risks a very bad time or worse. The folklore of the dead at sea or in the lagoon is the oldest and most are handed down to the generations so that we can remember, and with this song, we want to sing a tribute to the most heartfelt among sailors and Venetians.” adds the band.

“Undead Island” is the materialization and the channeling of all the ideas and energies expressed so far by Membrance in a unique and well-defined tangible direction. The band has partly abandoned the death n roll influences to give more space to inject black metal and has limited the progressive digressions to have more direct and compact tracks. The lyrical path of the full length is influenced by everyday life, dealing with themes not only of the band’s personal ones but also sometimes not discussed in metal music in general.

With these premises, the band is absolutely sure that their fans will appreciate this work more than its predecessors, and Membrance is equally sure that with this album they will push messages in equal measure to what they have always pushed mainly with the music.

The band adds:

“We want to offer an experience of deep anger, like being able to identify with an innocent prisoner kicking and screaming behind steel bars. We want to bring to the mind of anyone who listens to us the auspicious lagoon folklore that is fading away and to recall the times of a Serenissima that made us proud of our city but which is now almost forgotten. With this record, we want to convey our frustration and anger in our impotence and make people feel all the strength and energy we still have to fight, scream and cling tooth and nail to what we have left of our memories so as not to lose it permanently.”

Membrance was born in Venice in 2012 from the mind of founding member Davide Lazzarini as a Death Metal and Black Metal crossover project, it wasn’t until 2014 and onwards, after several line-up changes, that the group stabilized in old-school Death Metal with blues/rock n’ roll influences, which was reinforced by the entry of lead guitarist Pietro Battiston.

After an intense period of live activity in the underground and various demo recordings, in 2017 Giovanni De Fraja joined as the drummer and Membrance decided to work more seriously on their own music. They immediately recorded and produced their own debut album “Abyss”, initially released independently it was quickly picked up by the Ukrainian label Envenomed Music.

Thanks to this first release, the group received a fair amount of approval in the Italian and European underground scene, and we’re contacted to play at Metaldays of Tolmin 2018 in Slovenia, along with the Winterdays of Metal of the same year, plus asked to be opening support for various international bands on tour in Italy such as Marduk, Brujeria, and Necrodeath.

These successes pushed the group to collaborate again with Envenomed Music and with the support of Narcoleptica Productions, Membrance produced their second studio album “Morality’s Collapse”, which was released at the beginning of 2019 with the sound evolution of 16th Cellar Studio in Rome (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hideous Divinity, Hour of Penance), starting a path towards the Swedish old school Death sound “HM2 style”.

However, with the arrival of the Covid pandemic, despite growing approval and greater support for the international live scene such as Entombed A.D., Cripple Bastards, and Benediction, after 5 years of activity, Pietro decided to abandon the group leaving to Gregorio, the rhythmic player who just recently entered the group, the task of replacing him.

Giacomo Rusconi also entered the band as the second guitarist, the group embarked on a path of musical evolution in the following years in which it abandoned the blues influences to embrace a more black metal style and worked on texts in Venetian dialect along with lyrical influences inspired by the lagoon folklore.

During the summer of 2022, the recordings of the third studio work “Undead Island” were concluded with the support of the AudioCore Studio, which further develops the sound path started on the basis of the Swedish HM2 sound.

“Undead Island” is due out June 23, 2023.

Phaeton has been a noticeable force in the underground Canadian progressive metal scene since their debut self-titled album in 2018. The band has amassed a dedicated following for their instrumental attention-focused listening experience. One drenched in joy and wonder and the emotional, visceral release that only prog-metal can deliver. And the lack of lyrical interference only allows the listener the better opportunity to let their imaginations run wild with the music, drifting emotionally away on the solar winds to wherever they wish to soar. They recently released their second album “Between Two Worlds” and now fans can dig into the technical goodness with a playthrough video for the track “Terra Australis”. Bassist Ferdy Belland comments:

“The intro to this one always kills me, what with Kevin’s weird jazz chords trading off against the crunch chords and the tapping, and then the groove sets in the lead guitar gets to work. When the complicated melodies really get revving up, you can almost hear the tortured squeak of our helpless tendons as we desperately crawl our fretting fingers across the fretboard in pretzel patterns. There’s a slight reprieve where we bring it down and present you with another hummable melody, and then things just start getting ridiculous again and it’s Phull On Phaeton.”

The members of Phaeton are fascinated with astronomy, and the idea of life itself, in all its beauty and wonder and majesty, emerging from an instant of catastrophic cosmic violence intrigued us conceptually. This is reflected in their dramatic music which emerges from the void in thrilling bursts and unexpected turns.

Interplanetary instrumental heavy prog metal awaits with “Terra Australis”, which is recommended for fans of Gojira, Meshuggah, and Mastodon.

Watch and listen to “Terra Australis” via its premiere on Technical Music Review HERE.

“Between Two Worlds” was released on April 21st, 2023, and is available at Phaetonband.bandcamp.com, Spotify.

About: PHAETON was formed in Kimberley, BC in March 2017 by Kevin Thiessen (lead & rhythm guitar), Daniel Airth (lead & rhythm guitar), Colin Righton (drums & percussion), and Ferdy Belland (electric & fretless bass). Combining technically ferocious compositions of modern metal with the ambitious song-arrangement mindset of classic prog-rock, PHAETON (named for the theoretical proto-planet which collided with Ancient Earth during the Primordial Era) stands alone in the wilderness of British Columbia with their unique approach to instrumental prog-metal.

“It’s Prog Mag’s brand new Tracks Of The Week! (April 21, 2023) – “Hailing from Columbia, Canada’s Phaeton are an interplanetary instrumental heavy prog metal quartet and as their name suggests, they are fascinated with astronomy, and the idea of life itself, in all its beauty and wonder and majesty, emerging from an instant of catastrophic cosmic violence. The epic Between Two Worlds is the title track of the band’s latest album.”

“Phaeton are relatively unknown, especially compared to the above mentioned bands (scale The Summit, Animals as Leaders), but they definitely hold their own on Between Two Worlds. All members absolutely kill it on their instruments, the songs are wonderfully arranged and produced, and there’s plenty of variety here to hold our attention. Instrumental prog might be a little talked about genre, but Phaeton belong in the conversation.” – Havvy Music Headquarters

“All metal influences flow into the respective songs and riffs and power chords are widely spread. The sound of the opener “Predestination” is very reminiscent of GHOST.” – Hellfire Magazin

“”Between Two World” was very competently arranged and recorded by PHAETON. Prog fans, who like sounds and virtuosity above all, will be well served with the disc.” – PowerMetal.de

“If you’re open minded in your choice of Metal genres, you should feel free to let this instrumental work slip through your ears. It takes a little getting used to, so completely without singing. But if you get involved and listen carefully, one or the other will surely like something. The whole thing should appeal to fans of RUSH or DREAM THEATER.” – Hellfire Magazine

“Top-tier instrumental prog-metal-math music from the East Kootenay region performed by a quartet of veteran musicians.” – Stuart Derdeyn (The Vancouver Sun)

DOREA’s Debut Video “Hypnotic” Ensnares You Into Another Consciousness

Mixed and Mastered by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy)

L-R – Manuel Iradian – All Guitars/ Bass/ Vsts, Hugo McSween – Vocals, Kevin Alexander – Drums

Montreal, Canada’s Dorea is a fresh metal band on the scene that features high energy, tightness, and precision, a clear, modern sound with both clean and harsh vocals, insane guitar solos, and crushing drums. They are eager to introduce themselves to the world with their debut single along with many others they have recorded since their inception. They have carefully chosen their forthcoming music to show listeners what they’re capable of and they deliver nothing less than catchy hooks, moving lyrics, and melodies that give way to bone-shaking riffs. The band’s first introduction “Hypnotic” is presented with a dark and gloomy music video, which complements the dark theme of the lyrics. The band shares their thoughts:

“This song speaks about a man that loses everything he has, reminiscing about his past life and searching for truth in answers he never found. The song has everything from ballads to ripping guitar solos and complex riffing. It’s a melting pot of styles. We hope the fans perceive the sound as something fresh & unique. We continue to write music because it is our passion and we want to leave behind a legacy and repertoire of timeless music.”

Devoted to making the songs as groovy, heavy, melodic, and catchy as possible while at the same time adding elements of virtuosity, Dorea’s goal is to entice listeners to sing along to the hooks and at the same time, appreciate the musicianship and technical aspects of each member’s individual performance.

Their music is colorful, rich in its diversity of styles, with even some pop elements that can be heard from time to time. “Hypnotic” was chosen as the debut single as it is the most accessible in terms of its diversity of listening ability. It takes the audience on a journey by creating complex structures with fluid transitions, but unexpected heaviness hits you right in the face.

There is no fluff with Dorea, and they are devoid of any theatricals, they are simply three metal dudes writing and performing some of the best material they can. Edgy, and familiar, Dorea is recommended for fans of Avenged Sevenfold, Pantera, Symphony X, and Opeth.

0 ENDEAVOUR Usher In a New Era Of Metalcore With The Dynamic And Heavy “Colourblind” Off “For The Time Being”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 19, 2023

ENDEAVOUR Usher In a New Era Of Metalcore With The Dynamic And Heavy “Colourblind” Off “For The Time Being”

Hailing from The Netherlands, Endeavour is a quintet of metalcore musicians who have established themselves as a formidable presence in the music scene. Their distinctive sound, characterized by pounding drums, infectious melodies, and entrancing guitar riffs, showcases a range of styles from high-energy to melodically atmospheric. The release of their debut album “For The Time Being” takes metalcore into a new and modern direction, exemplified by their next single “Colourblind”,which they comment on:

“Colourblind” is a very good nudge into the direction we want to go in the future. The small and vulnerable first verse is contrasted by a big breakdown with a choir in the background. We’ve learned a lot during the process of making this record, and are happy we are finally able to show it to the world! Some songs have a connection to each other by delving a bit into personal matters, others tell stories that are much broader and less personal. ‘For The Time Being’ captures the contrast between fleeting personal issues and the broader problems we face. They make up a big part of someone’s journey through life but are definitely not always insurmountable, though it does feel like that sometimes.”

Listen to “Colourblind” at https://youtu.be/hdFuH618zSQ

“For The Time Being” has a little bit of everything, making it ideal for listeners who enjoy dynamic variety. While they admit it’s not the heaviest metalcore album you’ve heard, they’ve made sure to include some heavier songs that will scratch that particular itch. They put a lot of focus on creating musical journeys in the tracks, telling a progressing story over the instrumentation.

Those who enjoy the album, won’t have to wait long for more material, as the second album is currently underway. Endeavour is suitable for anyone who enjoys the eclectic and aggression of metalcore, especially fans of Sleep Token, Architects and Polaris.

“For The Time Being” is due out June 16, 2023.

”Already having picked up notable coverage from the likes of Insane Blog and even some early Spotify editorial playlist support, this bright young band is delivering some absolute fire with their newest single. While taking notable influence from bands like Architects and Northlane (to name a few), Endeavour are getting closer to finding their overall sound – and we’re here for it. Give the new track a spin below.” – New Fury Media

”BLUR showcases how a song can stand out from the crowded music world by not being afraid to focus on lush vocal melodies and heavier style that blends seamlessly with lighter elements in a natural, organic way.” – Toxic Metal Zine

”Sticking to their ‘single-word’ track-titles, Endeavour have launched into 2023 with ‘Blur‘ – a representation of what their latest studio run has cooked up. The new single is reminiscent of, and has influences from TesseracT and Sleep Token, which should tickle the fancies of prog-metalcore lovers out there. We reckon you should keep an eye on Endeavour this year as there might be a lot more to come…”- Wall Of Sound Australia

0 SANGUINE GLACIALIS Gets Personal About Battles With Mental Illness w/ New Video “Immuration” Off Third Album “Maladaptive Daydreaming” Out Later This Year

SANGUINE GLACIALIS Gets Personal About Battles With Mental Illness w/ New Video “Immuration”

Third Album “Maladaptive Daydreaming” Out Later This Year

Without darkness there can be no light, Sanguine Glacialis (ft. members of Valfreya, the Growlers Choir, The Monster Factory) have stared into the very blackest pit, and, inspired by what they saw there, forged sonic masterpieces of the darkest beauty, it is not surprising their name means ‘frozen blood’ in Latin!

Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Sanguine Glacialis has shared the stage with Dark Tranquility, Omnium Gatherum, Delain, Hammerfall, Unexpect, Necronomicon, and many more. The dark heart of Sanguine Glacialis is vocalist/keyboardist Maude Théberge, the sole original member left of the band. She describes their sound as ‘unique, original, intense and dark’

Today, the band has a new music video for the second single “Immuration” off their forthcoming third album “Maladaptive Daydreaming” planned for release later this year to follow 2018’s “Hadopelagic”. This next single follows their previously released “Welcome”, which they previewed to fans this past March.

On “Immuration”, the track starts with a piano/bass/drum intro before heading straight into the gang vocals chorus. It goes through different verses and choruses before ending with the most brutal breakdown on the album.

“Immuration is a metaphor for being stuck inside for too long and the hatred and depression that builds up because of it. This is a very catchy song that represents the album and its concept very well, so that’s why we chose it as a single. The music video represents the story of the album, but also, as a person with mental illness myself, this song and the whole record itself allowed me to explore my struggles and express them lyrically.” adds Maude Théberge (Vocals, Keyboard & Violin).

The music video for “Immuration” can be seen and heard via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

Sanguine Glacialis‘ new album “Maladaptive Daydreaming” explores the trials of mental illness and how it’s lived inside someone’s mind that the band’s frontwoman Maude Théberge knows from her own personal experiences. With a sound that infuses a vast array of musical styles such as jazz, classical, folk, symphonic, death, and black metal, Sanguine Glacialis have gone even more metal and darker than their previous releases, pushing their limits once again to explore new styles and instruments.

“I honestly think it’s our best album by far, and I think fans will love it. It’s a catchy melodic death metal album, yet progressive and dark as well. The lyrics are about an imaginary world created in someone’s mind to hide from reality, and how this world can suck you completely out of reality. It talks about different aspects of mental illness.” says Théberge.

Those unfamiliar with Sanguine Glacialis can expect a band that is more theatrical than most with their make-up, costumes, and invited artists, along with the most important rule for them, have a lot of fun! The band is hyped about the new album. The pandemic was great for them at least, as it allowed them to take the time to compose and write to make the best album possible and push their limits once again to explore new styles and instruments.

Fans of Fleshgod Apocalypse, The Agonist, and Diablo Swing Orchestra will likely be interested in the genre-bending sounds of Sanguine Glacialis.

“Immuration” is available on the following platforms: Sanguineglacialis.bandcamp.com, Apple Music, and Spotify.

Their previous music video “Welcome” can be viewed at https://youtu.be/fcBDJp2U7jY

“It’s rather difficult to slot Sanguine Glacialis into one specific style because they utilise a good amount of approaches and genres into their music, such as death metal and symphonic metal, as well as more unusual styles such as classical and jazz. They have a very interesting sound as a result and it definitely helps them to stand out from the crowd…” Soundscape Magazine

“Sanguine Glacialis threw me a bit of a curve ball as I was expecting a similar showing stylistically, primarily because I could hear the singer warming up her falsetto backstage. To my delight, the group launched into a more groove filled progressive black metal vibe that was thoroughly entertaining. Singer Maude Théberge navigated her tiny frame through the cramped stage to play the role of both soprano and banshee while providing intermittent piano sections. The band’s performance, energy, and crowd interaction won the crowd and me over, and I’m excited to hear their new album in the fall.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews

0 Rockshots Records Signs TakaLaiton For Debut Album “Mindfection” Out July 2023

Rockshots Records Signs TakaLaiton For Debut Album “Mindfection” Out July 2023

Rockshots Records is proud to announce their latest signing of TakaLaiton for the release of their debut album “Mindfection” produced by Teemu Aalto (Omnium Gatherum, Insomnium) and due out on July 28th, 2023.

Hailing from Finland’s far north, TakaLaiton garners a powerful melodic groove thrash-influenced attitude that is best seen in their super-energetic live shows that have always left fans with a sore neck and bruises from the moshpit. With a risk-taking thrash-fueled demeanor, TakaLaiton superbly blends fast-paced energy, and a bone-crushing groove, with melodies that can only be inspired by the dark, depressing, and frigid far-north. Not to mention the band’s lyrical onslaught, sung in both Finnish and English. Since their inception, the band has covered a lot of territories while on tour, bringing their rowdy stage presence to the Scandinavian regions, the rest of Europe, and Asian continents.

TakaLaiton has a “break the rules, exceed all limits” approach, as their name suggests; deriving from a Finnish baseball term for “swing the ball over the borders”. With that fierce frame of mind, the band has won “Heavy Metal Heart 11” a National Music Contest in Finland; and is ready to follow up their 2019 double EP “SisuKastraatio I & II” with 2023’s “Mindfection”, their first full-length that is based on today’s society, where we as people do everything to be a part of it and what’s sickening to the band is that people are ready to do anything in the name of couple minutes of fame. This album is based on this sick way our world has come to be.

The band adds about their signing:

“We think this will be the album that the TakaLaiton fans will consider a classic in the future. The well-known crushing sound and the rage are in there with the heartwarming melodies, which TakaLaiton fans are familiar with. We are absolutely psyched about the album’s release and the fact it’s coming through Rockshots Records! We spent literally everything we had when it comes to effort and money on this album and the final result turned out to be magnificent with the producer Teemu Aalto. With our great partners in Rockshots Records, we know that this album will find everybody that it has to!”

Singles and track listing will be revealed in the coming weeks. TakaLaiton‘s new album “Mindfection” is recommended for fans of Pantera, Slipknot, and Testament.

Montreal, QC’s Vantablack Warship is a band that mixes thrash metal, hardcore, and punk into an abrasive and thunderous metal. Their music is rhythmic, contagious, aggressive, violent, caustic… All with groove! The name of the group aims to pay homage to Black Sabbath. Vantablack is considered the blackest black in existence. Their mission is to be darker than the darkest of all, Black Sabbath. They have a new album, their third, being released next month entitled “Last of the Hard Mouthed Poets” and a music video available now for the single “Gone”. They share their enthusiasm:

“We think that if there is one song from the album that could go to mainstream rock radio, it’s this one! It was not our intention at the start, but it’s our “radio-friendly” song and features an eye-catching bridge. We took a look at the first pandemic restrictions that we had and pushed the energy on this one as if it had been extended forever! Looks like Vantablack trying to make a System of a Down tune…!”

“Last of the Hard Mouthed Poets” is a pure adrenaline rush that shoots everything! The short songs are intense and punch you in the face with engaging and thoughtful lyrics. They bring a ton of energy to both their live shows and recordings, they are not one to miss!

Riff-driven power chord assault awaits and is suggested for fans of Exodus, Cancer Bats, and Slayer.

Watch and listen to “Gone” via its premiere on IDIOTEQ HERE.

“Last of the Hardmouthed Poets” was released on April 28th, 2023, and is available from BAM & Co. Heavy.

“It’s a menacing mix of explosive thrash and you can let it pummel your senses by hitting play” – Exclaim!

“thrash, groove and gnarly vocals…it’s metal from start to finish and yet the overwhelming sense throughout is that this band’s attitude is punk to the core.” – Five Albums

“Assurément un groupe québécois à suivre et à ne pas manquer lorsqu’ils se produiront en spectacle dans votre région. Croyez-moi sur parole, Vantablack Warship – le mini-album et le groupe – fera date dans l’histoire de notre métal. ” – Muzik Injection

“The six songs are exactly what you would expect from a band in this genre, hard, ruthless, aggressive and this with a healthy dose of “f*ck the world and all in it” attitude…With this short record, Vantablack Warship shows they fit right into the current crossover scene and fans of bands like Municipal Waste or Suicidal Tendencies can surely appreciate this little piece of work.” – Lords of Metal

“It’s a hard hitting good time from start to end, no weak spots. It’s a mind bending cluster fuck to the tenth power. The vocals through out the album, so rich, yet so creative and they are their own thing. The melodies and mixing, everything has been extraordinary. It was more than a pleasure to listen to this!” – Taste of Khaos

“play a remarkably catchy brand of rocking deaththrash” – The Killchain Blog

“I’m very much digging it and hopefully there will be more coming from Vantablack Warship because I’ll be spinning this one over and over again.” – Thy Demons Be Scribblin

” Vantablack Warship wear their influences for all to see, there is, thankfully, no doubt that they have a sound that is all their own, or at least a sound made their own. Opening track You’ll Burn brings to mind Entombed’s 1993 classic Wolverine Blues, – as do all six tracks, in fact – but never to the point of plagiarism, and although Cancer Bats, Pantera and Slayer are all obvious influences too, there is no sense that you’re hearing a poor imitation, just a kick ass band with great taste in music.” – Morat 666

==============================================================

The album as whole is explained by Hooker Spit vocalist Daniel White:

The album combines dark, heavy, high-energy music intertwining with lyrical themes that convey the abject cosmic horror of what it means to be human.

Track by Track explained by vocalist Daniel White and guitarist Vlad Gligor:

1. Call of the Void: This is the first song we wrote. It contains all of the elements you could expect in a Hooker Spit song.  Lyrically the song deals with the subject of self-harm and the pendulum-like experience of someone who is trying to process those thoughts.  The lyrics are intrusive thoughts personified.

2. Corpse Grinder: The intention musically was to write a love letter to Cannibal Corpse. Vlad pitched the name and Dan decided to write it from the perspective of a cannibal meditating on their next feast.

3. Huntsmen: We really wanted to write a song with a clean intro and it evolved into an upbeat and melodic death metal song.  The song discusses the struggle of life and having the strength to move through to reach the truest expression of self.

4: Krötch Splitter:  This song is a macabre tale of a necrophiliac receiving their “just deserts” from a recently exhumed corpse.  This song marries death and symphonic black metal to create a terrifying revenge story.

5. Flesh Feast: This track is a combination of old-school and modern death metal.  The song contains a thrashy feel while bringing you to unexpected harmonies and breakdowns.  Lyrically the song describes a dystopian society at the edge of extinction.  Prior to systemized genocide, the populace revolts and devours their overlords.

6. Dry-fisted: It was composed when Vlad was going through some tough times.  Dan was also experiencing something similar during the writing process leading to a metalcore epic about abandonment and betrayal.

7. White Lighter: This is by far our most chaotic song. White lighter embodies American death metal such as Lamb of God and Dethklok.  It expresses the contrast between the rhetoric and the reality of organized religion.

Fun Facts – Story Angles

1. Devin is known as Father Quack.  At first, he was referred to as Daddy Ducky but that name has since evolved.  During a show we played with Ravenous E.H. he wore a complete rubber duck print outfit and threw rubber ducks out to the crowd.  Instead of applauding, the crowd then proceeded to squeak the ducks.  There are still people coming out of the woodwork messaging us about how much they love their ducks.

2. Our artwork is created by a close friend and Canadian artist who goes by PaleaRaptor.  We plan to keep our look consistent but add new characters as we go.  Eventually, we would love to have a whole roster of Hooker Spit girls.  We plan to introduce new characters as we release more content.

3. When we played a black metal event we thought it would be really funny to paint our faces like Kiss.  While being surrounded by people who looked like Abbath we looked like sell-out 70s rockers.

4. The beginning of Flesh Feast came about from Dan being drunk twice in one day.  Things got a little silly and he was doing an impression of a Southern Baptist while recording.  Vlad loved the idea but said it needed more “rosemary”. We refined it and the intro to Flesh Feast was born.

5. Our album as well as the initial mix was recorded and done in Vlad’s home studio.  Final mix and mastering were completed by Develop Device Studios who has worked with the likes of Jeff Loomis and Aborted in the past. We were excited to work with Jaroslav and we are happy with the results.

Left to Right and Center: Vlad Gligor (Lead Guitar), José Garza (Bass Guitar), Scott Gooding, (Drums), Devin Link (Rhythm Guitar), Center: Daniel White (Vocals)

Emanating from Red Deer, Canada, Hooker Spit is an up-and-coming Death Metal band with a penchant for writing infectious riffs. Comprising Vlad Gligor (Lead Guitar), Devin Link (Rhythm Guitar), José Garza (Bass), Daniel White (Vocals), and Scott Gooding (Drums), the Quintet is inspired by internationally acclaimed bands like At The Gates, Bloodbath, Carcass, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

Filled with heavy chunky riffs, guttural vocals, and destructive drum grooves, Hooker Spit has developed a sonic quality and episodic visual concept that is so unique to them, it can be immediately recognized as their own. The band has a unique innate competency to ingeniously present music in multiple styles of metal, all while maintaining a consistent brand, one of the factors that make this band one to keep an eye out for. With big dreams and plenty of energy to spare, Hooker Spit hopes to tour the world, bringing their music to people from all walks of life.

“this EP swept me up in a wave of nostalgic feelings with its mixture of heavy guitar riffs, melodic choruses, crushing vocals, and the occasional somber and more emotional moments. The tracks on this EP showcase everything that got me into this style of music” – Mike Leighton, Metal Epidemic (EP Review)

“Since 2021, Circa Arcana has been working the grind: they opened up for Limp Bizkit at Rebel Rock & went back to perform in Florida this year, April 23rd, to perform at the Earthday Birthday 2022 festival. That was the same festival that groups such as Godsmack, Three Days Grace, Black Veil Brides, Ice Nine Kills & Jelly Roll performed.” – Daniel Paulus, KLAQ

“Needless to say, Circa Arcana hit all the right notes here, so if you’re looking for something familiar yet fresh, this might be the one for you.” – New Fury Media

“Circa Arcana’s debut EP was released on February 18 for the world to hear. With a cacophony of breakdowns juxtaposed with infectious choruses that are easy to sing along to, the EP is a fast-paced rollercoaster to the face with the songs flowing together and showing a strong diversity in their music styles.” – HEAVY Magazine

“Circa Arcana presents a solid first effort and is recommended for fans of Wage War, Like Moths To Flames and We Came As Romans.” Keith Clement, – Metalheads Forever Magazine

“a nice melding of the emo and hardcore styles. The 5 song EP shows Circa Arcana performing at the top of their abilities. Bridget Viginti is a nice showcase of some hardcore influenced tracks that are given an injection of melody… There are sing-along moments to be found here and they blend in nicely. There is catchiness and it leads to memorability.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“A short and sweet explosion of American Metalcore, ranging from personal struggles with addiction and personal demons to stories of occult legends and disassociated dreams.” – The Headbanging Moose

“Drawing very much on the spirit of metalcore pioneers such as Killswitch and 36 Crazyfists, while also strongly referencing latter day proponents such as BMTH and We Came As Romans, Circa Arcana could well prove to be one of those bands that make you re-evaluate your assessment of what you believed to be a dying sub-genre by bringing a whole new level of excitement and re-invigoration to it. Fuck, they even throw anthemic power punk into the eclectic recipe, with obtuse sidebar of ‘Luna’.” – Uber Rock

=======================================================

The EP as a whole:

The most unforgiving fucking album of 2023. It’s pretty aggressive, pretty fucking mean.

Track By Track:

It’s more of just modern-day stuff, not like an alpha male thing or anything like that, just be a fucking man bro. It’s pretty much about standing out there and doing whatever the fuck you want.

King’s Wench
This song is about a dude who hates his fucking girlfriend but when she dies, he goes and digs her up and starts fucking her body.

Dybuk
It’s about the band talking to our fans and telling them to stand the fuck up and not let someone put them down. Like man the fuck up and go do something about it. You know, fuck everybody.

No Fucks Left
Yeah, that song’s literally about telling all the whiny ass bitches of today’s modern lifestyle to go suck a dick because we don’t care what they think. It’s a big fuck you to the cancel culture.

Switchblades and Fistfights
It’s straight-up a fighting song. This song was made for people to hit each other too, the perfect song to be in the mosh pit for.

Encompassing a blend of influences from metalcore, post-hardcore, and nu-metal acts, American four-piece Circa Arcana, from El Paso, Texas have defined their sound to give listeners a nostalgic yet new variation of sound so often repeated in the metal music scene. They released their first single “Esoteric” in 2021 and an EP “Bridget Vīgintī” in 2022. This year they are following it up with “F.U.C.K.Y.O.U.”, which they declare is the most unforgiving, aggressive, and meanest recording of the year.

According to the band, the first EP  “Bridget Vīgintī” (released February 2022) was very emo, more of a heartfelt fan-to-fan moment, and with this new record, after touring and seeing how shitty people are, they wrote this one in a dark place. Music runs in their veins, and they bring a mixture of melodic, aggressive vocals, and hard-hitting riffs.

Fans who like to can get their adrenaline fix by bands such as Wage War, We Came As Romans and Attila are sure to get their fists pumping for Circa Arcana’s next offering “F.U.C.K.Y.O.U.” due out on September 1, 2023.

Circa Arcana is:
Johny Serna (Guitar)
Jonny Garcia (Drums)
Federico Corral (Bass)
Kevin Cangas (Vocals)

Shared Stage with:
Memphis May Fire (Direct Support), Ice Nine Kills, Motionless In White, Jelly Roll, Matriarchs, The Convalescence, Living Dead Girl, Farewell To Fear, Steellake, Glorious

List of Tours and Festivals:
Mosh In The Deep End Tour – August 2022
Earthday Birthday Festival – April 2022

Sunbeam Overdrive is a concussive and dynamic progressive metal outfit from the south of France. Hard at work since day one, back in 2019, they quickly released their first three-track EP and performed their very first show at the famous German Euroblast Festival later that year. Their plans for large-scale touring were put on hold with the pandemic, but gave them time to focus their energies on their recently released full-length “Diama”. The depth being their mash-up of genres is on full display in their new music video for the title track, which the band comments on:

“This is the first real track on the record –powerful, aggressive, catchy but also airy and progressive. The lyrics were inspired by an extremely intense, burning, sudden, ephemeral, and ultimately volcanic adventure. Volcanism is the metaphor spun throughout the text because it evokes fusion, lava flows, eruption, and therefore, in the background, carnal, erotic union; heat that burns, but that fertilizes afterward.”

Watch the video for “Diama” at https://youtu.be/o4t-fXrr9lA

In the context of the whole album, which isn’t intentionally a concept album, but turns out to be an initiatory journey in the form of trials, doubts, determination, dizziness, and vertigo, elements that are transcribed into eclectic psychedelic riffs, thundering drums, and versatile, cinematic vocal styles.

Sunbeam Overdrive will surprise listeners with their unexpected crossover of several styles ranging from 90s grunge to progressive metal to modern djent. The album was produced, and mixed by Tom Abrigan; mastered by Brett Caldas-Lima with album artwork done by Christophe Dessaigne.

“Diama” was released on May 12th by Tentacles Industries / Season of Mist and is available at the following links:

About: Founded around professional musicians in 2019 and hailing from Marseille, southern France, SUNBEAM OVERDRIVE is mixing progressive metal and ’90s alternative rock. Hard at work since day one, the band quickly released its first 3-track EP and performed their very first show at the famous German Euroblast Festival in October 2019. Sunbeam Overdrive was about to hit the stages when the Covid-19 pandemic started… In turn, and after a few line-up movements, they started producing their first full-length album “Diama”, to be released worldwide in 2023.

“Out Of Plato’s Cave – One of Six cool new prog tracks you need to hear this week (March 16, 2023)” – Prog Mag
“Bang this album into your vehicle’s sound system or blast it through your headphones, as you rock out to ‘Diama’ by Sunbeam Overdrive. It is THE soundtrack for your journey of solitary existence!” – Metal-Rules

“As a first work, Diama has been a great success and shows Sunbeam Overdrive as a playful and highly energetic newcomer who can definitely set accents in the scene. 9/10” – Sound Magnet Magazin

“This one is interesting, a bit prog, some groove metal, thrash stuff. clean and harsh vox. Cool!” – The Mosh Pit – WORT 89.9FM (Madison, WI)

“As far as the songs go, I love the whole album, but ‘Diama’ was amazing. ‘Slave To The Void’, ‘Crimson Stains’, ‘Deaf And Blind’, and ‘Out Of Plato’s Cave’ were all great. There’s a cover of ‘Hard Sun’ from Canadian singer/songwriter Gordon Peterson as well. They’re doing a version closer to the Pearl Jam version, but either way they do a great job with it. Overall, I have to give this one a 9 out of 10 “Flaming Fists” due to its creativity, musicianship, production and overall song-writing. It’s one of the most diverse and heavy albums I’ve heard lately, it deserves a much bigger audience.” – Rock You Radio

“Soon, on •• Tentacles Industries •• , the release of the new album by French quartet Sunbeam Overdrive. It’s called Diama and Crimson Stains is the new single to entice you for the rest of the album soon to come. Scream, djent, progressive, alternative metal and all sorts of core elements come at you from all sides. Circling around you like a riff tornado, this single is but one of the many tracks that hurl you through space and time, and the storm both inside and out of you. It fits perfectly with the concept that seems to be surrounding the album…” – Stoner Hive

“Standing out from the progressive metal pack with their interesting touches of 90’s alt-rock, Sunbeam Overdrive tickle the senses with their wandering intro of Ascending and the choppy, raw, and animated title track. Before they really lean into the 90’s alt-rock soundscape with Slave to the Void. Where sections of heavy groove come crashing down on the head. Followed then by the anthemic and manic energy of Crimson Stains, one of the album’s more intense moments as Sunbeam Overdrive go quite hard and heavy here…. Though if you’re after something with a more serrated edge, Out of Plato’s Cave will cause some damage. Sunbeam sounding both furiously heavy and grandiose in equal measures. Another highlight of the record simply because of the hectic pacing.” – Games, Brrraaains & Head-Banging Life

“Welcoming us in an oriental atmosphere (which can also evoke the last Hypno5e for once), Diama really starts with the title track, pulsed and muscular, it takes us without hesitation into the rich universe of the Marseilles managing to stall us unstoppable Devin Townsend- inspired vocal melodies .” – Eklektik-Rock

“A production to seek out by those who enjoy vibrant and melodic heavy metal explored with a little bit of a progressive metal attitude and spirit.” – Progressor

“Sunbeam Overdrive nous délivre un premier album vraiment convaincant. Du grant art !” – United Rock Nations
