AUGURIUM Takes A Fresh Look At Canadian Death Metal With “Ancient Grimoire”

New Album “Unearthly Will” Out August 2023

Canada’s Augurium was formed in the summer of 2015 by like-minded individuals who have a drive and a thirst for heavy, filthy riffs and low guttural screams. Augurium quickly completed their line-up and played their first show supporting Evilheart (Mexico) and jumped into the studio to record their debut EP “Omen” along with touring throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta. Their first full-length “Unhallowed Ascendance” was unleashed in 2018 and was a stepping stone of straight-up brutal death metal for the band. Evolving over the years, along with a new lineup, their sound has transformed now into a more refined, darkened, carefully crafted monstrous offering with their sophomore album “Unearthly Will” this coming August 2023.

“Unearthly Will” was a challenging, yet rewarding one for Augurium. All of the writing and recording was done remotely by each individual member at their homes (3 members in Saskatchewan – Regina, Saskatoon and 2 members in British Columbia). Their independent technical knowledge and their constant communication with each other of the quintet made this project come to fruition naturally.

The first single off the forthcoming album is “Ancient Grimoire”, a haunting and guttural monstrosity. The band explains more:

“Musically this was the first time we’ve ever introduced any form of clean singing into an Augurium song. Although it’s blended with some very evil and filthy guttural lines, it’s honestly haunting when you hear all of the vocal lines paired with the orchestral background pieces. Lyrically there is a theme of finding synchronicities between books across a wide variety of authors and time periods in an abstract fashion.”

Spotify – https://spoti.fi/3r8wzC2

“Unearthly Will” is a fresh take on what Canadian death metal has to offer. With slamming riffs in a variety of time signatures and genre-blending aspects, over a finely executed percussion and rhythm section. It is recommended for fans of Lorna Shore, Septicflesh, and Belphegor.

In addition to the full-length’s release, Augurium will be setting off on tour in August and September with select Western Canadian dates. (listed below)

EPK – Augurium – Unearthly Will (2023)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“This project has been an awesome journey and a welcome challenge to create over the past 2 years. All of our experiences have been absorbed and expressed within the walls of sound. As a tapestry is weaved together, each day as a thread towards the colossal effort that went towards this death metal release. We feel that this new album is a fresh take on what we have to offer to Canadian death metal. With slamming riffs in a variety of time signatures and genre-blending aspects, over a finely executed percussion and rhythm section. “Unearthly Will” brings out our expression of old and new references within the world of heavy metal. We hope that our listeners enjoy this album for what it is, and perhaps join us when we perform in your area.” – Cejay/Yianni – Augurium

======================================================================

Fun Facts – Story Angles:

1. – We were playing somewhere in Alberta during the summer of 2018 and it was after a gig, we were all starving and had one too many adult beverages and ended up spending $50 on single cheeseburgers and McDonald’s and when we woke up, we noticed we accidentally “borrowed without returning” the serving tray. It ended up being a tour token and everyone who played on the tour signed it and it’s currently hanging up on the Augurium wall w/ an abundance of show posters and scrimp.

2 – Augurium is the Latin translation for Omen which we titled our first studio effort.

3 – Change your guitar strings. Nothing is more “embarrassing” than the FOH engineer/sound guy putting the jeopardy theme on while your bandmates try to make up some banter while you are rushing to change your broken string mid-set.

======================================================================

The album as a whole:

It is a culmination of core ideas that remain consistent and brutal yet experimental. It brings a dark musical aspect to lyrical themes of light and inner thought processes.

Track by Track explained:

1. Inquisition of the Possessed – Musically – This is by far our most complex piece on the album. It starts off very fast-paced and keeps that same momentum throughout the song. The band is firing off on all cylinders for this song. Lyrically – Attempting to dispel misconceptions about religion, and to promote inner discernment.

2. Phantom Parallax – This is a very rhythm-based song that calls back to the intro chord numerous times, we find this song also has the heaviest breakdown on the album. Straight-up filth. Musically – Lyrically – Meditations on the possible connection between the living and the dead, and possession.

3. Sanguine  – Musically – it was the first song we wrote when the idea of Augurium reforming came around. It’s got a blend of the older sound with the new sound and is the most distinct sounding on the album when it comes to our old style.

Lyrically – Themes of finding inner peace through self-actualization and connection to ancestral sources.

4. Ancient Grimoire – Musically – This was the first time we’ve ever introduced any form of clean singing into Augurium. It offers a very haunting feel paired with a guttural monstrosity to make it a beautifully ugly offering. Lyrically – A theme of finding synchronicities between books across a wide variety of authors and time periods in an abstract fashion.

5. Inceptus Mysteria – Musically – This song is one of our more heavily orchestrated songs that has a very big black metal influence. It blends the newer style of orchestra and blackened riffs with the old-school chunky and tremolo-picked riffs.  Lyrically – So much beauty and knowledge can be found deep within the ocean, yet the human race can do nothing but destroy and harvest its riches.

6. Unearthly Will – Musically – This song is one of the more melodic songs on the album. From the beginning through to the two solo sections it is filled with harmony and tremolo notes that go in sync with the orchestra. Lyrically – Acceptance of the disconnection between myself and the hateful aspects of humanity to let assimilation with nature and the divine take its place.

7. As Above… So Below Musically – This song again brings back a mixture of our older and newer sounds. It speaks to many of our personal influences and is paired with some nasty riffs. – Lyrically – Themes of rebellion against corruption, and recognition of the current A.I. revolution.

8. Invictus – Musically – One of our slower-paced songs that starts off with very dark ominous chords. The vocal lines paired with the orchestral bits create a very ominous dark atmosphere throughout the song. Lyrically – Letting go of the past, to become the person meant to fulfill your true purpose.

Hardball is an emerging punk/grunge act from Vancouver, BC, Canada, who are set to release their debut self-titled album in July. The deadly trio of seasoned musicians is eager to play something that is uncommon these days and the new album delivers something that is reminiscent of the 90s with a modern twist amidst the punk and grunge rock chaos. The second single is “NRA”, which captures huge-sounding drums, and over-the-top-heavy, layered guitars. To them, the vibe is also very important and resulted in rerecording some sections many times trying to get the energy exactly how we wanted.

According to Hardball, the single is musically just supposed to sound completely bonkers. Drums going completely ape all over the place, obnoxious riffing, and big low-tuned power chords, the heavily distorted bass guitar holds down the main riff. Lyrically, it is an anthem about gun control. Not really even with a coherent position on the matter. Calling it NRA despite not directly having anything to do with the NRA, was a humorous take to them. Vocalist/guitarist Scott Budgie explains more:

“I guess what I’m trying to say is that the US has major social problems that have led to regular shootings. I don’t like it, and I can’t do anything about it. But, I’m going to shout about it the way a scared, confused child might. I think listeners will recognize that we’re not a nostalgia act, there is a clear influence from contemporary punk and hardcore that shows through. I think people will recognize that this is original and genuine music.”

Hardball is composed of former Poles frontman and Vancouver local Scott Budgie, as well as Okanagan residents, drummer Jeremy Head also of The Motion Picture, and bassist Jamie Black. Their self-titled album is a joint production between recording engineer Matt Roach of Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC (Baptists, Misery Signals, Comeback Kid) and mix engineer Felix Fung of Little Red Sounds in New Westminster, BC (Needles//Pins, Girlfriends and Boyfriends, Mode Moderne).

In support of the album, Hardball is setting out on tour this August with appearances throughout Western Canada. Full tour dates are listed below. They are recommended for fans of Wipers, Hüsker Dü, and Flipper.

Listen to “NRA” via its premiere on V13 HERE.

Hardball‘s self-titled debut album is out on July 21st, 2023.

MOTORJUNKIE and Exitus Stratagem Records Release Video For “Cold Barrel” Bringing Awareness To Veteran Suicide

“The Shadow In I” Out Now!

L-R – Billy Varga – Guitar, Chris Cox – Vocals, Marvin Rogers – Drums, Michael Cooper – Bass

Motorjunkie, a stalwart in the North Carolina hard rock music scene announces the release of their latest video, “Cold Barrel”. Billy Varga, guitarist, wrote the song as a tribute to his stepfather, and to raise awareness of the rampant suicide problem that plagues the nation’s military veteran population.

“My stepfather was a U.S. Army veteran who took his own life a month before we entered the studio to begin recording the EP. I wrote the song in one afternoon as a bonus track, but it became the leading track on this EP. The video chronicles the events that transpired the afternoon my stepfather made the fateful decision that ended his life. If we can help save just one life through this song and video, we will have done our job.”

We provide resources at the end of the video for those struggling with depression or dark thoughts.

Born out of the southern biker scene, Motorjunkie is popular among rock fans, motorcycle enthusiasts, and military members. A fresh alternative to both the straight blues and the heavy metal scenes, Motorjunkie combines the best of both genres. In the 2000s their music was a bit heavier and bordered on full-out metal but has since evolved into a broader rock-centric vibe that appeals to a wider audience. There is no theme, costume, or flowery object standing in the way of Motorjunkie’s music.

Like a bad-ass American muscle car, this group only gets better with age. Fans of classic rock bands like Alice in Chains, Corrosion of Conformity, and Tool will love Motorjunkie.

4. Marvin Rogers is also an Army and combat veteran with multiple deployments overseas.

6. Billy has several gear endorsements including Knaggs Guitars, KSR Amplification, and Lava Cable.

L-R – Billy Varga – Guitar, Chris Cox – Vocals, Marvin Rogers – Drums, Michael Cooper – Bass

Motorjunkie leads the charge in the North Carolina hard rock music scene after nearly a decade and a half of creating and performing some of the best-known and received heavy music in the region. Stout, resolute, and determined, this band strives to give its fans and listeners an exciting alternative to the status quo.

Born out of the southern biker scene, Motorjunkie was well received by fellow motorcycle enthusiasts and military members as a fresh and new alternative to the dated blues environs.  Drawing on influences ranging from Metallica to Alice in Chains and Led Zeppelin, their music style was bold, exciting, and provocative.  They quickly established themselves as a force majeure after winning a local rock radio station battle of the bands and subsequently released their self-titled debut album.  In 2002, Singles “Stumble” and “10 Years” received regular airplay on local radio while tracks such as “The Wagon” and “My Rig” became anthems and favorites during the band’s live set.

Following an 18-month hiatus due to military deployments, Motorjunkie experienced a shift in rhythm section members which altered the band’s dynamic and music direction. In 2006, they recorded and released their second offering “The Plan” which contained an even heavier and personally introspective set of songs to include the fan favorites “Dyin’Slow” and “Volatile”. The single “Man Down” received regular airplay and is a tribute to our fallen military heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice; a subject that this band has intimate familiarity.

In 2009, a devastating motorcycle accident forever changed the life of singer Chris Cox. Suffering a severe stroke and multiple broken bones, he was hospitalized for several months and was forced to re-learn how to speak, walk, talk, and play music again. A long and painful road to recovery lay ahead.  In addition, more military deployments forced a break until 2012 when the band would re-constitute with its original drummer.

Rising in the face of adversity and turning tragedy into strength, Motorjunkie released “Full Circle” in May of 2014 and has enjoyed success from the single “Draw a Line”; voted runner-up for the 2014 Go Live Raleigh competition as best original song.

In July of 2017, they released the first video for the single “Dark” from the upcoming EP 3 SEASONS, followed by EPs 3 Seasons in 2017 and The Shadow in I in 2021.

“We do not have a gimmick” state its band members. “There is no theme, costume, or flowery object to stand in the way or take your eye off our music. There is purity that exists and a genuine story that pours out from our songs. What you see is what you get”. Many challenges have stood in the way of this legendary band, but like a bad-ass American muscle car, this group only gets better year after year.

EPK – King Ov Wyrms – The Womb Ov Borealis (2023)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“I believe the new album will be a bit of a step away from the first album Lord Ov Thornes where we tried to emulate what inspired us, this time we tried to go totally blind into our own musical talents with little to no inspiration but rather just delivering something more of our own. This album will really solidify us as a contending act in modern death and black metal by giving us an identity all our own. We want to introduce the listener to a “new” King Ov Wyrms, we want to show what we can create when we aren’t trying to stick to typical genre ideas and explore what we can create with our different backgrounds. Overall, we feel this album is a massive step forward, we have taken on a more diverse writing style and approach to the material. We almost have taken a more progressive approach to the material while trying to stay near our Death and Black metal roots.” – Michael Oneirous Sanchez – King Ov Wyrms

“Lyrically, the song (To March From Darkness) narrates a hellish war on heaven, with a satanic horde bent on bringing fire and slaughter to the angelic host. Not surprisingly, there’s abundant fire and fury in the music as well. As the drums hammer the listener’s head the riffing blares and blazes in livid pulsating tones, and roils and drills in displays of cruel violence, while the vocals utter the enraged words in monstrous guttural tones and strangled snarls and screams, and wild quivering leads channel derangement. The music also brings in filaments of eerie melody that add a supernatural atmosphere, jolting body-blows, electrifying drum progressions, and a guitar solo that’s maniacally spectacular but also transforms into an expression of agony. Moreover, all the song’s changing motifs have the capacity to get stuck in the head.” – No Clean Singing

“an interesting evolution in their sound. Fans of experimental black metal should definitely give it a listen.” – Amplified Magazin

“Fury does indeed radiate from the music in violent waves. The song (Thorne Bearer) takes flight through rapid-fire drum battery and deep, dismal, heaving tremolo’d riffing that climbs and flares in manifestations of madness and misery, and squalls in blasts of vicious, mauling cruelty. Sanchez contributes his own vocals to the melee, venting horrid growls and scorching screams, which add to the music’s enraged and ferocious striking power. The song’s urgent pace never relents, but the drum patterns morph, as do the riffs, which feverishly squirm and flail as well as jolt and jar in savage, pulsing fashion. The jet-fueled energy and barbarous intensity of the music are both intense and captivating, and they’re joined in the red zone by sensations of rage and maniacal menace.” – No Clean Singing

“some beautiful, new extremity from King Ov Wyrms! Be on the lookout for their forthcoming album “Lord Ov Thornes”” – The Circle Pit

“King Ov Wyrms provide an unrelenting onslaught of classic death/black metal that should appeal to fans of Morbid Angel, Bloodbath, and Vader.” – Lambgoat

“Some pretty savage blackened death metal here. Lord ov Thornes is one of those albums that starts at full speed and doesn’t slow down much, if at all. Take 51 minutes of that and call me in the morning… If you’re at all a fan of very fast and heavy black and death metal and have been looking for a new band that does it well, King of Wyrms just delivered the goods for you.” – The Metal Crypt

“Lord Ov Thornes is a sickening effort that blazes with satanic and ritualistic power. Marvel in horror at what is crafted here, beginning with the unforgiving Threnody and the sheer brutality of The Great Sleeper. Within the first two tracks, it’s abundantly clear what we have here is something dredged from a well situated in hell.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Lord Ov Thornes”, the debut album by KING OV WYRMS, a worthy contender in the late year heralding the cold and darkness that is coming for us. The man has left nothing to chance, electing to fill every position himself on both sides of the studio glass, and the end result is a consistent and thought-out fifty-one minutes of solid metal.” – Metal Temple

“it deserves a place on your playlist if you like your music heavy, malevolent and underpinned by Lovecraftian themes.” – Scream Blast Repeat

“Nothing short of an aural assault of pure mayhem……” – Permafrost Today

“King Ov Wyrms is blasting brutal death loaded with lots of black metal riffs and dual growl/shriek vocals, with a death/brutal production. Press “play” and watch this thing launch into linear relentless attacks of brutality over and over for the duration. It is almost totally nonstop blasting, energetic, superfast extremity only for the true love-it-all fanatics.” – Metal Bulletin

“King Ov Wyrms sees Sanchez present a straightforward, ruthless, rampaging festival of hard hitting, heavy riffs encased in a thick, apocalyptic atmosphere. Embodying the spirit of the classic late eighties and early nineties acts with a new, modern aggression… From the album’s cataclysmic opening with ‘Threnody’ to its closing dissonant chord found in  ‘Ascendance Of A Continual One’ which echoes into the back void, this is a straightforward blackened death metal album that is out to take the scene by the throat.” – Noizze UK

============================================================

The Album as a Whole:
This album is almost like the first “real” King album, Lord Ov Thornes was really just me finding an outlet to worship the metal I grew up with which led to a lot of people wanting the songs to be more “original”. Ultimately this is the culmination of that drive to fill that want, this is the first “real” King album delivering a new approach to how we present ourselves and our music. This album will definitely open us up to a whole new fan base and I feel our original fans will be even happier to hear what we have developed over the years and what they will surely see more of in the future. – Michael Oneirous Sanchez

Lyrically as a whole the album is definitely a new approach for me, this material felt like it was mostly taken from Oneirous’s knowledge of the occult which was a new experience for me personally working with a band. Musically this has to be the best I’ve felt working in a band which should reflect to the listener, the material was definitely more technical and what I’ve been searching for amongst previous projects. – Ricky Williams – Drums

Track By Track Explained:

In Aeons We Spoke – In Aeons is definitely the “attention grabber” of the album, it really sets the mood for the whole album with its lyrics setting a haunting mood and the instruments going in full force letting you know what this album is gonna give you straight from the beginning.

Grave Ov Birth – Grave is a straight-to-the-point aural assault. The riff hits first and upfront while being pushed even harder by Ricky’s relentless blast beats. Lyrically the concept is just a small tie-in to the ever-looming concept of death and rebirth brought up throughout the album and of course the title.

Sulphur – Sulphur has to be potentially the closest we get to our “old” sound but it still contains our own spin on things. The furiousity of the instrumentation is supposed to give more weight to the satanic-charged lyrics opening up to a provoking chorus line of devotion to the left-hand path.

Desolation Fog – Noticeably this track is a heavy trudge through grim dark waters, The dragging guitars and swinging drums take you through a walk through an ever-looming fog of decay which all gives way to.

To March From Darkness – March was one of the first songs written for this album which is why it features our session bassist Derrek Page who really brought something intense to the performance. This track was potentially the first song that featured more than just myself on guitars which really shows how much of an improvement the songs underwent with the addition of Ricky and Derrek (temporarily).

Illusory Veil – Most of the lyrical content of this album derives heavily from my interest in occult magick and other “World” studies, To much detail I won’t go into but those who are familiar might appreciate the themes and imagery brought forth across this work. Musically we tried to give ourselves a push-and-pull vibe to retain our extreme approach to music while keeping some sense of uncharted territory.

Sightless Vision – For anyone that hasn’t already figured out by now we are pretty big fans of Lovecraft and the whole concept of cosmic horror. Lyrically I’ve taken on much more of a “storyteller” role this time around almost taking point to narrate a horror story in numerous ways across this entire album. Musically this features one of my favorite guitar lines which is almost entirely arpeggiated chords but slurred giving it a very unique feeling to the lyrics being displayed over Ricky’s ferocious drum display.

What Time Has Wrought – There is almost an ever-growing concept I’ve had where I feel the last track on any album should really be the big magnum opus or longest, most diverse example of the album to really push the whole project out on a bang. Needless to say this idea has led to this track being the longest song I’ve ever recorded and living up to be a spiritual sequel to Ascendance Of A Continual One off of our first album. Most notably this song features a lot more acoustic work mixed in compared to the rest of the album but the development of the overall song is really pushed forward by Ricky’s ability to mix in his different styles and complement even the more subtle parts with creative movement.

In Aeons We Spoke –
In Aeons We Spoke is essentially the Title track for us, it’s by far the biggest embodiment of the album and a great entryway into what’s about to come. The track starts out with the haunting bellowing sounds of otherwordly entities while we creep in with our instruments to set the stage for the horror we are trying to bring forth. We decided to take a chance this time around and make a music video actually featuring us performing the song even though we are primarily a studio project without a performing lineup which is why there isn’t a bassist present or any other guitarist accompanying me. Regardless of the fact I think the physical presence of myself and Ricky ushering in this new form of King Ov Wyrms is very much needed. We have rebirthed ourselves in the fires of chaos and come out even stronger than before with new drive and fervor.

Desolation Fog –
Desolation Fog is a track we just knew we had to present before the full album comes out, it features some of my favorite lyrics off of the album, and accompanied by the imagery presented in the Lyric video it was a perfect match. Sonically this song is unrelenting and just so damn heavy, it catches you with the swinging groove and really locks you in before Ricky amps it up with savage blast beats and his intense footwork.

To March From Darkness –
To March From Darkness is a prime example of what we have done to evolve from our previous approach and sound which was found on Lord Ov Thornes. This had to be the first song recorded that featured as close to a full lineup as we have ever had with myself on vocals and guitars, Ricky on drums, and Derrek Page who filled in on Bass for us for 3 tracks before we ultimately had to finish without him. The contributions from both Ricky and Derrek really made this track a dominant force off of the album featuring some insane bass work and of course Ricky’s signature “no holds barred” drumming which really let me open up more as a guitarist and vocalist compared to previous efforts. Needless to say, the evolution leading to new members involved with this project really shows in the songwriting and how far we have come for this project.

============================================================

Fun Facts – Story Angles:
1. Once again the development of the album was entirely managed within the band from the writing, recording, mixing, mastering and overall engineering work being taken care of by Michael Oneirous Sanchez in his personal studio.

2. King Ov Wyrms was featured in the Tucson, Az Army Man Project put together by Rudy Flores which features numerous artists and artisans representing Tucson in arts and culture brought to life as an army man figurine.

3. This album is the first time the band has ever been presented as a full lineup. Michael Oneirous Sanchez performed all vocals and guitars along with the majority of the studio Bass tracks, Ricky Williams performed all of the drums and percussion, Derrek Page was brought into the band temporarily to help write and take some of the bass work which he did under session work on three tracks.

4. Oneirous and Ricky Williams have a long history of about 10 years before they ever got around to working together. They started out as two separate bands sharing a studio, ultimately Oneirous assisted them with pre-production on several albums. Now 10 years later they are producing albums together under the banner of King Ov Wyrms.

5. Ricky was initially offered a spot to record drums and join the band for the debut album Lord Ov Thornes but unfortunately, due to time constraints and lack of availability, it didn’t happen.

L-R – Michael Oneirous Sanchez – Vocals, Guitars, Bass (Studio) – Ricky Williams – Drums

King Ov Wyrms first began as an homage to classic death and black metal acts of the late ’80s/early ’90s with a touch of modern aggression.

Formed in Tucson, AZ. King came from the want of a more aggressive act when the main band of Michael Sanchez, Pain Patterns, started taking its roots in early 2015. He loved the music he was creating but felt that the band couldn’t fulfill his desire for a purely aggressive musical venture.

The project went through many different lineup changes only to be consistently held together by Sanchez. Having studied classical music and jazz to a degree while growing up, it gave him the tools to write comfortably on his own even in the concept of metal music. He starts out with a basic riff or a small melody line off of a piano and just adds on and on until it manifests into some sort of abomination of sound.

In early 2020 upon Sanchez’s departure from the power metal act Judicator, he decided to pull King of Wyrms out of hiatus but only as a solo effort to produce a full-length album. Over the span of several months, Sanchez was able to completely record all of the songs previously written for King as a full lineup, this time all the music was performed and written solely by him.

On November 20th of that same year, King Ov Wyrms unleashed the debut album “Lord Ov Thornes” which featured lyrical themes encompassing the occult, and a deep love for Lovecraftian horror.

Now returning in 2023 Sanchez has joined forces with Ricky Williams for an updated version of King Ov Wyrms. They have turned away from the Old School worship to try making more original style compositions and exploring their musical diversity, which will be showcased on the sophomore album “The Womb Ov Borealis”.

– Camping & Extreme Music In Alberta’s Badlands –

August 4th – 6th, 2023

Alberta, Canada’s LOUD AS HELL has a stacked lineup for its 2023 edition and their festival Spotify playlist will give your eardrums a nice blast of heavy to get you ready for the pit with JUNGLE ROT, NARCOTIC WASTELAND, INCITE, NECRONOMICON, THE CONVALESCENCE, ARRIVAL OF AUTUMN and lots more (full lineup listed below).

Then make your way to Drumheller, AB from August 4th to 6th at the Dinosaur Downs Stampede Grounds!

This year’s Loud As Hell sees the return of American and Mexican bands joining the lineup after lifted Covid restrictions along with artists from across Canada performing for the three-day open-air event.

Highlights for this year’s lineup witness the return of groovy death metal Americans JUNGLE ROT to Canadian soil to headline the closing night on August 6th in support of their latest album “A Call to Arms” released last year on Unique Leader Records.

Toledo, OH’s THE CONVALESCENCE is one of the USA’s unstoppable tour de force, touring Europe in 2022 with Chelsea Grin, and Carnifex plus an upcoming tour in Japan in 2023 with Exhumed and Defiled along with their latest single “No Survivors” ft. Scott Ian Lewis of Carnifex has fans demanding more and more.

North Carolina’s Narcotic Wasteland’s (founded by ex-Nile guitarist Dallas Toler-Wade) festival appearance comes as part of the band’s first cross-Canada tour as they will be supporting their forthcoming third studio album in 2023 on Mega Force Records.

Phoenix, AZ’s INCITE, now close to 20 years into a career where everything was earned and nothing was taken for granted, the band bridges the gap between multiple crowds across various metal sub-genres. As renegade disciples of trailblazing architects like Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, and Machine Head, INCITE raise the torch for trend-killing and hipster-smashing metal. The band’s fifth album, Built to Destroy released in 2019 (Minus Head Records), is a visceral, urgent, voracious distillation of modern metal, with reverence for the past, produced by Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence) and mastered by Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed).

One of Canada’s longest-running blackened death metal bands hailing from Montreal, Quebec, NECRONOMICON‘s career spans over 30 years since it was first formed in 1988 by founding guitarist and singer Rob “The Witch” in the deep, northern part of Quebec’s Fjord of Saguenay. Since then, the band has carefully released each full-length without haste, allowing them to perfect every nuance before unleashing their sonic assaults upon the masses.

Canadian metalcore titans, ARRIVAL OF AUTUMN, hailing from Grande Prairie, AB, are LOUD AS HELL alumni and return to co-headline opening night on August 4th in support of their new album “Kingdom Undone” being released on Nuclear Blast this coming May.

What the press is saying:
“Western Canada’s loudest heavy metal festival brings fans to town more known for dinos than drum solos.” – CBC Calgary

“Loud as Hell – one of Canada’s top underground metal festivals – was a metal family reunion. If you walked around the grounds, where tents covered the landscape like flowers, you would experience concert goers laughing, hugging and just enjoying the moment. The music played non-stop and the people were some of the best you’ll meet. What else do you need? If you’re a metalhead fan, mark it down for next year because this is a concert you don’t want to miss.” – Blackfalds Life

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 29, 2023

Rockshots Records – It’s Time To “Get What You Asked For” New Video From Finnish Thrashers TakaLaiton

New Album “Mindfection” Out July 2023

It’s time to “Get What You Asked For” as you enter the monstrous moshing pit from Finnish thrashers TakaLaiton and their new music video in support of their debut album “Mindfection” produced by Teemu Aalto (Omnium Gatherum, Insomnium) being released on July 28th, 2023 via Rockshots Records.

The second single “Get What You Asked For” is the purest form of TakaLaiton‘s musical mayhem. The lyrics are based on today’s society in the way of how we’re nothing but ready to kill our own if we don’t think the same about everything in general along with the idea that everything and everyone has a price.

“Corporations are ready to destroy mother nature for the sake of the dollar and everyone who stands in their way has a price that makes them back off,” adds the band.

“Get What You Asked For” came together in one hungover morning at Laiton Studio when the band was having a songwriting weekend. Vocalist/guitarist Juho came up with the riffs for the song, but he was missing a chorus riff. Pasi, the band’s lead guitarist added that in and the band managed to build the song structure on that very day. Not long after that, Juho wrote the lyrics in two days.

Watch and listen to the video for “Get What You Asked For” at https://youtu.be/wkht-pwgUJk

Digital – https://bfan.link/get-what-you-asked-for

Hailing from Finland’s far north, TakaLaiton garners a powerful melodic groove thrash-influenced attitude that is best seen in their super-energetic live shows that have always left fans with a sore neck and bruises from the moshpit. With a risk-taking thrash-fueled demeanor, TakaLaiton superbly blends fast-paced energy, and a bone-crushing groove, with melodies that can only be inspired by the dark, depressing, and frigid far-north. Not to mention the band’s lyrical onslaught, sung in both Finnish and English. Since their inception, the band has covered a lot of territories while on tour, bringing their rowdy stage presence to the Scandinavian regions, the rest of Europe, and Asian continents.

TakaLaiton has a “break the rules, exceed all limits” approach, as their name suggests; deriving from a Finnish baseball term for “swing the ball over the borders”. With that fierce frame of mind, the band has won “Heavy Metal Heart 11” a National Music Contest in Finland; and is ready to follow up their 2019 double EP “SisuKastraatio I & II” with 2023’s “Mindfection”, their first full-length that is based on today’s society, where we as people do everything to be a part of it and what’s sickening to the band is that people are ready to do anything in the name of couple minutes of fame. This album is based on this sick way our world has come to be.

“We think this will be the album that the TakaLaiton fans will consider a classic in the future. The well-known crushing sound and the rage are in there with the heartwarming melodies, which TakaLaiton fans are familiar with. We are absolutely psyched about the album’s release and the fact it’s coming through Rockshots Records! We spent literally everything we had when it comes to effort and money on this album and the final result turned out to be magnificent with the producer Teemu Aalto. With our great partners in Rockshots Records, we know that this album will find everybody that it has to!”

TakaLaiton‘s new album “Mindfection” is due out July 28th, 2023.

Montreal, QC – June 29, 2023

Venezuelan Atmospheric Death Doom STRATUZ Announces South American Tour Dates (Chile, Argentina, Peru)

New Album “Osculum Pacis” Out Now!

L-R – Franklin Berroteran (Vocals, Keyboard), Geronimo Egea (Guitar), Leonardo Rangel (Baa), Diego Cabrujas (Drums)

Venezuelan atmospheric death/doom Stratuz is adventuring across South America this August and September for tour dates to promote their latest album “Osculum Pacis” released in April 2022. The band will be kicking off the tour in Santiago, Chile on August 30th and continue across the country towards Argentina and wrap up in Cusco, Peru on September 16th. More shows will be added and announced at a later date (current dates listed below).

Latin American Tour Trailer Video – https://youtu.be/XhiUSPqe35w

When presenting themselves live Stratuz transmits a much more powerful energy than on their recordings, and there are always comments that the band sounds much better in concert than on album, and this is because of the particular vitality that can be appreciated in their performances.

The band comments about going on tour:

“This is the formal start of our international tour, and we want to cover as many places as possible to continue promoting Osculum Pacis. We want to have direct contact with the audience and share with each of the bands that will share the stage with us.”

This will be the band’s first tour since going on hiatus in 2006 and reforming in 2019. To mark their return to their latest album “Osculum Pacis” is an immersion into the band’s own universe of sound, which will lead you to listen to each of the themes repeatedly and thus discover each sound layer and the sensations to awaken you.

“So many years away from the scene led us to experiment with other musical currents and the studio, which allowed us to nourish ourselves and thus reach the level we are at now. This record we hope will awaken your senses with its eleven tracks that ebb and flow through dreary gutturals, majestic choruses, and heart-pumping riffs.” says the band.

Lyrically, “Osculum Pacis” speaks of the abuses of the church and its deafening silence in the face of so many denunciations of abuse. It speaks of the manipulation of the masses, and injustice, but at the same time, it also speaks of the awakening of consciousness, of death as a process of transformation, and the need to change ourselves in order to rise up and banish our own miseries. It speaks of rising up aware of who we are.

Stratuz is recommended for fans of Paradise Lost, Tiamat, and Moonspell.

The album “Osculum Pacis” was released on April 26, 2022, and is available on CD / Digital on Stratuzofficial.bandcamp.com, and Spotify.

“The track (Left) begins with grim, quiet strumming and then is ignited with a glowing melody pronounced by the electric piano. Gothic vocals follow, tortured with the thought, “We are alone!” As the song develops, it asks of us, “Is today one day more or one day less in your dreams?” Osculum Pacis is a mighty struggle between light and darkness, that fans of Paradise Lost and Type O Negative should take a fond liking to.” – Doomed and Stoned

“the fathers of Venezuelan death/doom” – Femforgacs

“For me this material is the best of the Latin scene of 2022” (Osculum Pacis) – Metallerium

“Osculum Pacis is a brutally artistic journey with Stratuz, it loudly demonstrates their abilities and vision, which they stayed true to throughout all the changes and dynamic shifts that we’ve been through on this sonic trip. I loved how packed is it with pure emotions of anger, melancholy, and growing brutality.” – ROCK ERA MAGAZINE

“Fans of doom metal, death metal – even black metal, can find something to appreciate with “Osculum Pacis”. For metalheads who like their metal dark and more mature with its themes, this is a great release to sink your teeth into.” – Team Brutal

It is an album, a record that can captivate anyone who loves music, both for its lyrical content and for its musical enrichment within rock in different trends and trends, along with orchestral arrangements that surround you. Without a doubt, a musical production for export.” – Cresta Metalica

ETHEREAL VOID’s “Psychosomatic Suicide” Offers A Traditional Death Metal Vision of A Mind Betraying The Body

New Album “Gods of a Dead World” Out Now!

Listen closely, and you can hear the haunting echoes of Ethereal Void, the Ontario-based trio whose music speaks of the emptiness that pervades our existence. Their death metal rhythms, infused with grooves and progressions, evoke a sense of forlornness that transcends the bounds of music. Born of the void beyond time and space, they seek to remind us of the nothingness that awaits us all. They have recently released their third album “Gods of a Dead World” and are keeping the momentum going with a lyric video for “Psychosomatic Suicide”, which they share their thoughts on:

“This song departs from the theme of the album and offers a more traditional death metal vision of a mind betraying the body and causing a suicide. It’s the only track not to feature Nemesis’ leads, and the difference is made up in the orchestral arrangement. It’s subtle, but because of this, it has more of an epic, cinematic feel than the others.”

Watch and listen to “Psychosomatic Suicide” via its premiere on GhostCultMag HERE.

With “Gods of a Dead World” they wish to impart visions of a world drowned in darkness. A soundtrack for when entropy takes us all. Ethereal Void is inspired by the darkness alive within humanity and within the universe as a whole. Over nine potent tracks, they explore the concepts of entropy, decay, void, and ruin set to furious death metal.

They started out as straightforward death metal with what was arguably progressive and groove elements, however, this new offering takes the sound to a much more epic and grand scale, while retaining the core of that groove-based death metal sound. It is recommended for fans of Gojira, Septic Flesh, and The Design Abstract.

“Gods of a Dead World” was released on May 26, 2023, via Abstrakted Records.

““The Voiceless” is a rushing charge. It gets the listener’s pulse pumping because the song itself has such a mad pulse. Many of them actually, from the fast jolts in the fuzzed-out riffage to the die-stamp hammering of the snare and the jackhammer impact of the bass. And it does sound like a mad pulse, thanks to the swarms of frantic tremelo’ed fretwork, the relentless double-bass strafing, and the ugly ravenous growls. While the head-hooking energy of those assaulting ingredients never really lets go, the music does also move sideways. Eerie spectral tones ring out, creating an overlay of melancholy. The music even seems to elevate in wailing splendor, as a prelude to a sorcerous guitar solo that sounds both inviting and yearning, both enticing in its glimmering tones and downcast in its mood. Even the unhinged screams of the vocalist almost sound like singing (almost).” – No Clean Singing

“A compact and concise release, Gods of a Dead World comes in at around 26-minutes long and features a number of sharp and savage pieces of music. Kicking off with a frantic showcase of guitar screams and squeals, with the chunky familiarity of death metal heaviness, Overture to Annihilation gets in, smashes stuff up, and gets out.” – Games Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Raw and Gritty Old-School Death Metal” – Metal Purgatory

“Gods of a Dead World has everything you could want out of a straight up death metal offering. The riffs are tight, but the guitar sound is absolutely filthy, which only delights me more. There are plenty of melody and solos to be had as well. The bass and the drums have a natural and hammering sound that will keep you strapped in for the entirety of the album. There are some more orchestral elements added in that only contribute to overall vibe of the album. And the vocals are extremely reminiscent of some of the masters of death metal. So. Much. Gravel.” – Metal Purgatory

“The music pounds through your skull, marching forward with groove in every song. Each song has some kind of hook that draws you in. It’s never the same, though, and never the coming from just one aspect of the song. Ethereal Void really knows how to craft a song to grab your attention and keep it. Overall, Gods of a Dead World is a cohesive album with plenty to offer fans of almost any genre touching death metal. If you are looking a new album to please the old gods, give this one a spin for sure.” – Metal Purgatory

“or a Death Metal cut “Overture to Annihilation” is a real eye opener, blood soaked in cinematic orchestration and virtuoso lead guitars, the barked vocals having that story telling quality to them. That flows nicely into “The Voiceless“, which introduces the lyrical themes and creatures with Voiicide playing both victim and killer as vocals come from alternate angles with a vocal tweak. It works incredibly well, the riffs flowing freely with chugging aggression, the leads bright and vibrant against the darkness. The way the cuts have been put together has been well thought through, the segway into “Seeds of Hatred” barely noticeable as the flow continues like an orchestral piece but there is also enough of shift to identify the track as being separate.” – Metal Noise

“…the group’s sound is as mysterious as the black hole vortex that occupies the minds of modern physicists. They pride themselves on their rhythmic prowess and their abstract melodies, yet their music remains impenetrable and enchanting at the same time. Gods of a Dead World is what Blut Aus Nord would sound like if they composed a death metal record.” – Scream Blast Repeat

“Death metal with a little progressive brutality” – The Moshpit – WORT 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

“How this band manages to use guitars far beyond catchy groove riffs to create complex atmospheres it’s as impressive as it is entertaining. A quite creative Death Metal proposal.” – Rock Attack

“A production to seek out of a hard, intense and tight and occasionally also heavy variety of extreme metal tends to fascinate you, and in particular when explored in arrangements that also adds a distinct and eerie otherworldly feel to the landscapes explored.” – The Viking in the Wilderness

“in all their field of exploration and experimentation, this may appeal to fans of SepticFlesh, Vesania, Strapping Young Lad, Gojira.” – Metal Friends
