TALIA HOIT Releases Emotional New Symphonic Music Video “Angel”

Talia Hoit is an American singer-songwriter from Colorado. She was classically trained at a young age and now she writes songs and various symphonic metal compositions. She has contributed to bands for the last two decades and also has a collection of solo works. Collaborating with a talented group of producers and musicians, the songstress is sharing her latest music video for her single “Angel”.

With this recording and everything that Talia Hoit does, her main goal is for the listener to feel the song and the emotion behind the lyrics, and what the song is about.

“I am striving for really great production quality so that it’s enjoyable to listen to and so that the song itself is communicated in a way people can resonate with,” says Hoit.

Working with producer Jarek Musil, Talia Hoit‘s “Angel” is a symphonic rock ballad that truly touches the heart of all who hear it. About the loss of someone who died way too soon in life that was personally close to Hoit. She explains further:

“This is a very special song to me personally and I hope it will resonate with everyone. I wrote it just as an attempt to process my own feelings after I had experienced the loss of my childhood friend from a rare and aggressive cancer, and then over time and after experiencing more losses in my life, the song has become a really emotional expression of my heart and soul, and I hope that it will be moving to a lot of other people too.”

Originally released as just a SoundCloud stream, “Angel” will be officially released on June 9, 2023, on all platforms and before it drops, its music video can be seen and heard via its premiere on Metal-Rules HERE.

Fans can expect a lot more music coming from Talia in the future, she has many songs that she looks forward to releasing in the future. Dark, introspective, and metaphorical, Talia’s symphonic metal gives new life to the genre. It is recommended for those who enjoy Nightwish, Within Temptation, and Evanescence.

About: Talia Hoit is an American singer-songwriter from Colorado. Classically trained, she begin playing the piano at the age of 5. Now she writes original songs, performs on vocals and keyboards, and composes orchestra scores for symphonic metal.

She was the keyboardist and a co-songwriter for the hard rock band Anadies for 5 years, releasing an album, Formamentum (2004), and an EP, Catalyst (2006), before branching out to write her own solo songs and sing classical music. She performed as a Soprano with the Colorado Springs Chorale for 10 years, and as the Chamber Singers of the Colorado Springs Chorale for 5 years. As a solo artist, she wrote and independently recorded two original albums of songs, Fate’s Too Small (2007) and A Little Longer (2012) which had a limited physical cd release only.

In 2014, she recorded ambient vocal backing tracks as a guest musician for a symphonic power metal band, Psycodrama. After this studio experience, she decided to pursue her passion for singing symphonic metal. That same year, she joined the band Beyond Forgiveness and is currently the lead singer, orchestral composer, co-lyricist, and co-songwriter for the band. They have released an EP: The Ferryman’s Shore (2015), two albums: The Great Wall (2017) and Live to Tell the Story (2019), and are currently in the studio working on their third full-length album, Cold as Winter’s Ice.

In the fall of 2019, she worked with producer Jarek Musil to record a single, Angel, for personal purposes, which had a soft release in early 2020 on Soundcloud only. Since the Covid pandemic, she has been working remotely with a talented group of producers and musicians to bring more of her most personal and intimate solo songs to life.

In November 2022, she released a single and music video for the song, Until It’s Forgotten, recorded at the Colorado Sound Studios with producer Steve Avedis. In March 2023, she released a single, Abandon, with producer Mane Cabrales, along with another music video. Her next single and music video is a newly mastered version and new music video for the song Angel, which never had a proper public release until now!

“Talia is a really talented singer; she can hit those notes and transmit the emotion” – Lorraine Foley, Rock the Joint Magazine

“É-o em consonância com a atmosfera mágica e etérea que, tanto o vocal de Talia, como a músicasinfónica e o vídeo invocam, numa combinação que nos oferece uma impressão de nostalgia – apesar deser uma peça artística bem recente.” Ethereal Symphonies Blog April 8, 2023. (Translation: It is in con-sonance with the magical and ethereal atmosphere that both Talia’s vocals, the symphonic music and thevideo invoke, in a combination that gives us an impression of nostalgia – despite being a very recent pieceof art. )

EPK – HardBall – Self-Titled (2023)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“We are really excited to finally get this album in people’s hands. There have been terrible periods of development hell and sessions of re-tracking the same parts over and over trying to get the vibe just right. It’s been a long, and at times aggravating process to get it to where we’re truly happy with it. We’re all perfectionists, especially Jeremy, who acted like the in-band producer throughout most of the process.

I feel as though we created something innovative and contemporary while still honoring our heroes from the ‘90s alternative rock and ‘80s punk scenes. We’re having our cake and eating it too.” – Hardball

For fans of Nirvana, Wipers, Hüsker Dü, Flipper, The Melvins

Band Name: Hardball
Album Title: Self-Titled
Release Date: July 21, 2023
Label: Self-Release
Distribution: Distrokid

“Hardball is a Vancouver-based trio who certainly studied up on grunge music in all of its grimy detail. But the band brings something more than template Seattle sound ditties to its full-length, self-titled debut. They’ve got a good sense of humour…. Songs such as the single Worried As S—t feature little lyrical jabs thrown in that turn the self-importance of bands such as Soundgarden, Nirvana and Pearl Jam inside-out. Like, seriously, what is up with the lead singer’s hats? The tune won’t tell you. But the band might offer an explanation from the stage that night.” – Vancouver Sun

“Punishingly heavy and powerful, the band members go absolutely musically berserk on this one, throwing everything they’ve got against the wall, with the song’s intensity matching the weight of its message. Gun control is an issue we hear about in the news virtually every day. HARDBALL have stepped up to the plate here with a representation of the anger many of us feel about these societal challenges.” – V13

“Vancouver’s Hardball are sharing their self-titled full-length, which will take you through the grunge journey of dirty riffs and speedy shredding.” – New Noise Magzine

“The more I listen to this album the more I fall in love with it. I was a huge Nirvana fan in my youth and this scratches that itch and then some. It has elements of all three of their albums whole also bringing plenty of their own sound and creativity to things. There isn’t a bad track on the album and I’d recommend it to anyone! 9.5/10” – Overtone Magazine

“You can’t accuse Hardball of not taking things seriously. Their self-titled debut album, as reckoned by lead singer Scott Budgie, is a testament to a labour of love, sweat, and tears. The journey to its creation involved scrapping and re-doing, and the results that emerge from this dedication are undeniably palpable… The hard work invested in Hardball’s self-titled debut album is evident in every track. This is not a mere grunge revival; it’s a reboot that captures the genre’s spirit while infusing it with their own artistic vision. This album marks the starting point of a new chapter in the grunge movement, and it’s clear that Hardball is here to make their own mark. 8/10” – Maximum Volume music

“if you do like Nirvana – then you might have a new CD to purchase!… the opener ”Just A Tree” in true grunge mode. If you on the other hand take ”Me And you” we’re in for more of a party hard rocker with a slight punk vibe. Still some grunge in it, maybe mainly for the lead vocal of Scott Budgie who sounds very much like Kurt Cobain at times. This band is furthermore more interesting to listen to, musically, compared to Nirvana. Hear the hard-working guitar playing in ”Worried As Shit” for example. Same in the quite grungy ”Talk To Me” with good variation between intense and softer parts, plus nice riffing guitars. All in all, yes: quite grunge oriented but still more than that. Well worth checking out if you’re into this type of music.” – Melodic.net

“HARDBALL is a trio from Vancouver that tries to revive this period through realistic, harsh songs and a thick and hard sound. Their first album is without doubt the most beautiful tribute to the nineties scene that we have been able to listen to for a very long time” – Metal News Fr

“HARDBALL brings to their music, a claw, a rather distressed and tortured atmosphere. And then around the compositions, something struck me: the emotion. It is palpable all the way, feels right away, because it feels like Scott is literally living this music. Any grunge or nostalgic fan of this era should have an ear, because this album is inspired.” – Olivier No Limit – Soil Chronicles

“The riffs are sharp, the bass pumps the blood to the most inaccessible parts of the body and the drumming is truly outstanding. Above all, Hardball brings a sound that sounds quite melancholic and – typically grunge – is an indictment for a lot of things in the world that are firmly out of whack. Whether there is still an audience waiting for a grunge band, we cannot say for sure, although we assume that good music always finds a way. And to be honest, we are pleasantly surprised by this debut album.” – Musika

====================================================================

The Album as a whole is explained by Scott Budgie (Guitar/Vocals)

To us, the album is a huge deal, because it’s something we worked on for MANY years. It is not something we slapped together on a weekend. At one point the album was about 70% done and we made the tough decision to basically scrap it and re-track the drums for 8 of the 10 songs. It was worth it in the end. It finally sounds the way we wanted. Every line of vocals on the album was recorded dozens, if not hundreds of times over multiple sessions.

The seemingly endless periods of delays and problems that plagued the production of the album were beginning to cause me distress. Finally, seeing the release of this album on the horizon has been very therapeutic for me.

Artistically the album covers a lot of different, but related themes. In my mind, it’s a concept album, but it’s admittedly the most incoherent concept album of all time. It’s a deep dive into my own psyche, unturning all the different stones that maybe should have been left alone, all the while worrying about being too self-indulgent in the process.

I like unusual delivery of lines and run-on sentences in my lyrics, as well as a mixture of absurd and dead serious subject matter. It makes it feel chaotic and unpredictable.

In some ways the album is like a collection of ideas that we’re excited to finally document and move on from, that’s the main reason why there is a cross on the album cover. Not because it’s the end of HARDBALL, but because it’s the end of HARDBALL as we know it. We have a lot more to do in the future and we feel that this album is an awesome starting point. We’re really proud of it.

Track By Track:
1.) Just A Tree
I was reluctant to open the album with this song because of the jangly open chord parts that, to me sound almost Nashville-like. I didn’t want to give anyone the wrong impression right off the bat (no pun intended). But I also like the scope of the song: covering major and minor chord progressions, dissonant guitar parts, quiet to heavy dynamics (a grunge staple), the wild layered synthesizer breakdown during the bridge, and finally the lovelorn vocals at the ending.

Lyrically, the song describes unrequited love and uses being a tree as an allegory for remaining loyal, reliable, and unbothered. (it’s music for the incels, just kidding, but basically)

2.) Worried As Shit
This track’s self-disparaging lyrics are pretty par for the course with HARDBALL. Mainly focusing on my own flaws including socially awkward behavior, and an inability to maintain healthy relationships. Mostly tongue-in-cheek but also not.

3.) NRA
Musically this song is just supposed to sound completely bonkers. Drums going completely ape all over the place, obnoxious riffing and big low-tuned power chords, the heavily distorted bass guitar holds down the main riff. NRA is an anthem about gun control. Not really even with a coherent position on the matter. Calling it NRA despite not directly having anything to do with the NRA just seemed funny to us. I guess what I’m trying to say is that the US has major social problems that have led to regular shootings. I don’t like it, and I can’t do anything about it.

But, I’m going to shout about it the way a scared, confused child might.

4.) In The Mail
(My favorite track by far)
HARDBALL’s answer to dynamically epic songs like The Smashing Pumpkin’s “Soma”. I think we succeeded in creating a really vibey song that builds in tension and then just blasts off at the halfway point and goes hard until the end.

Using postal mail as an analogy, the lyrics describe a relationship beginning with the excitement and anticipation of meeting someone new, and slowly falling into complacency and boredom.

5.) Me And You
Me And You is a short burst of high-energy verses and riffs held together by a recurring harmony. Lyrically Me And You is basically a cynical version of Neil Young’s “Old Man”, making (sometimes nonsensical) comparisons to things I have in common with my old man.

6.) Chili lulls you in sounding like a simple
verse-chorus-verse structure before going full prog-stoner metal on you. The lyrics come from agonizing sleepless nights brought on by guilt and self-loathing.

7.) Talk To Me
Originally it seemed we didn’t have much for this piece other than the heavy floor tom hits combined with the palm muting which we thought was really cool. It took a couple of years for the overall direction to come together. Looking back, that palm mute/floor tom thing was a pretty boneheaded idea to pursue, but it ended up being worth it for the heavy riffs that came along.

8.) Ian’s Song
This song was the closest to being thrown out, but we all think it’s funny so it just made the cut. It’s definitely the oldest song on the album. It’s a true story about an old Scottish man who lived in our former bandmate’s basement. He would sometimes terrorize us while we were jamming in the garage. He frequently drank our beer and stole our food from the fridge upstairs. Eventually, he moved to a different city. I often wonder what became of that guy.

9.) I/O
Known internally as ‘Inside Out’, this is a classic HARDBALL song with sudden changes in dynamics. It begins with solo vocals and guitar before the entire band comes in dialed up to 10 for the hardcore-inspired verses and choruses. It ends with an abrupt change to a mellow arpeggio instrumental outro that serves as a fake-out ending to the album.

The lyrics are a satire of macho hardcore punk, which I love, but I don’t fully understand the tough guy culture behind it.

10.)  Open Air
HARDBALL’s 10-minute epic. Beginning with clean guitar, soft vocals, and a tom beat that carries the intensity up and down, eventually.

Open Air goes completely off the rails and ditches its verse/chorus structure in favor of 4 minutes of bone-crushing riffs to close out the album. Lyrically the song describes trying to hang in there in a relationship that’s not working for either side. It also includes an homage to Danzig’s ‘Until You Call on The Dark’ with the line ‘until you start to call on the dark/I’ll hold on, I’ll hold on’.

==================================================================

Fun Facts – Story Angles
1. Despite the name no members of HARDBALL have ever taken part in team sports, and in fact, despise them.

2. HARDBALL once opened for DOA when they were coming through Penticton. Here’s a quote from Joey Shithead (or Joey Keithley? I don’t know what he goes by these days) regarding HARDBALL’s set to the best of my memory “You guys said you were punk. I don’t know what that was, but it wasn’t punk.” Obviously, we’re punk and it’s the old guy who’s wrong. After the show, we tried to shake him down for a bigger cut of the door money.

3. Fun Fact: We make regular use of extended-range instruments, including baritone guitars and 7 strings, but keep it somewhat restrained so as not to seem forced.

4. We have a tendency to meticulously plan every aspect of our tours except where we’re going to sleep. We’ve definitely pitched the odd tent in the middle of the night at the end of a cul-de-sac in Red Deer.

5. Scott used to own the Mystery Machine from one of the live-action Scooby-Doo movies but crashed it and it was a total write-off and there are no pictures to prove it but it’s true.

HOOKER SPIT Announces Canadian Tour Dates + Streaming Single “Call of the Void”

“Krötch Splitter” Out July 2023

Red Deer, AB’s Hooker Spit announces they will be hitting the road this summer for Western Canadian tour dates to support their debut album “Krötch Splitter” out on July 28th, 2023.

The tour will kick off in Edmonton, AB on July 21st, and see the band trek across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan and will include performances at Loud As Hell Festival, Grover Fest, and CEMR MetalFest along with select dates with Regina, SK’s Augurium and Medicine Hat, AB’s Raising the Ruins (dates listed below).

As an up-and-coming death metal band with a penchant for writing infectious riffs, Hooker Spit is comprised of Vlad Gligor (lead guitar), Devin Link (rhythm guitar), José Garza (bass), Daniel White (vocals), and Scott Gooding (drums). The quintet is inspired by internationally acclaimed bands like At The Gates, Bloodbath, Carcass, and The Black Dahlia Murder. Filled with heavy chunky riffs, guttural vocals, and destructive drum grooves, Hooker Spit has developed a sonic quality and episodic visual concept that is unique to them. The band recently unleashed their first taste from their seven-track debut album “Krötch Splitter” with the single “Call of the Void”, which they comment on:

“This is the first song we wrote. It contains all of the elements you would expect in a Hooker Spit song. Lyrically the song deals with the subject of self-harm and the pendulum-like experience of someone who is trying to process those thoughts. The lyrics are intrusive thoughts personified. We did our best to represent the pain and suffering of someone dealing with these thoughts to address what we feel is something that many people deal with. This song does not glorify but rather tries to strike at the root inspiration for these thoughts like a sense of isolation and lack of purpose.”

Listen to “Call of the Void” at https://youtu.be/DpEi9clVS_Q

The album “Krötch Splitter” combines dark, heavy, high-energy music intertwining with lyrical themes that convey the abject cosmic horror of what it means to be human. The lyrics have many themes. These range from dystopian realities and the depths of cannibalistic depravity to living your best life and aiming for self-actualization. Inspiration comes from many places such as pop culture, esotericism, and life in general.

Melodic, but without sacrificing the aggression, Hooker Spit offers a classic death metal sound that is suitable for old-school and new-school fans, especially those with an interest in At The Gates, Lamb of God, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

“Krötch Splitter” is due out July 28th, 2023, and available for album pre-order at https://hookerspitofficial.bandcamp.com.

Long Island, NY old school death metallers Pyrexia are celebrating the release of their 25th Anniversary edition of “System of The Animal”, which was recorded with Pyrexia‘s current band lineup that consists of Chris Basile (Guitar), Shaun Kennedy (Bass), Jim Beach (Vocals), and John Glassbrenner (Drums) at Chapel Sound on Long Island, NY, along with mixing and mastering done at Demigod Studios by Miguel Tereso.

“The biggest thing over the past couple of albums is the jump in production and the main thing the band suffered from in the past was production value. The songs can be felt in the chest and the riffs can finally be heard with this newly recorded version of System of the Animal. I also felt it was ahead of its time in 1997. I don’t think a lot of people were ready for such a mix of Brutal Death Metal VS. Beatdown Hardcore. When people hear this material with the new production, combined with the fact that the music was written in the mid-90s. I think it puts Pyrexia in a whole new light for a lot of people. I think the songwriting is really going to stand out for listeners bored with bands that put out the same album over and over.” says Basile.

With “System of the Animal 25”, Pyrexia provides the blueprint for OG Brutality and a result that is nothing other than pure audio violence. It’s fierce, angry, and in your face. This album will not leave your playlist. So put on your moshing shoes for this one. Heads will be banging and elbows flying.

“System of the Animal 25” is now available as of June 6th, 2023 via the band’s label Gravitas Entertainment.

Together over 30 songs were written by the band and many of the songs and riffs written during this time appear on both Pyrexia and Suffocation’s early releases leading to many comparisons.

1990: Basile meets up with the four other original members Guy Marchais, Rob Shimonski, Daryl Wagner and Mike Andrejko, and Pyrexia is formed. They go on to release their 1991 demo Liturgy of Impurity and later the classic 1993 Full-length Sermon of Mockery, cementing their place in the anoles of Death Metal history……

Pyrexia continued to release one seminal release after another including their 1997 “System of the Animal”, and even teaming up with Trevor Peres of Obituary in 1999 to form the band “Catastrophic” which went on to release their debut album on Metal Blade records.

In 2007 the band signed with Unique Leader Records and began an extensive campaign of touring and performing both in America and overseas in support of the next three albums released under the UL moniker that continues today.

With the addition of Gravitas Entertainment and Management as full-time management for the band, the schedule and team in place for 2023 have the band set for new heights…..

“Close out the week in this post-apocalyptic hellscape with a fittingly on-point lyric video from U.S. death metal legends Pyrexia for the track “Unscathed.”” – Decibel Magazine

“Pyrexia sound brutal like never before with the reimagined release of System Of The Animal 25. This album will reignite your love for Brutal Death Metal.” – Metal Talk

“this re-recording is absolutely monstrous” – The Razor’s Edge

“If you’ve never heard the original SYSTEM OF THE ANIMAL, you’re fine and in good company (see previous statements), SOTA 25 is the definitive version and will knock you on your arse in ways the original never quite could. Thanks to beefier production values, there’s a density to tunes like “Downsized” and “Purging the Nemesis” that are painfully absent from the original. And then there’s vocalist Jim Beach; the man’s voice sounds like Cookie Monster made love to a garbage disposal, it’s otherworldly. No disrespect to journeyman vocalist Keith DeVito’s original performance, but his delivery has always been snarly and much less guttural. In the right context he’s great (see Internal Bleeding’s IMPERIUM), but hearing Beach snarling his filth across “Unpurged” makes it a night and day listening experience.” – Metal-Rules

Rockshots Records – Pirate Metal CALICO JACK’s New Video Reveals The Tale of “Queen Anne’s Revenge”

New Album “Isla de la Muerte” Out June 2023

Named after the nickname for Captain John Rackham, the English pirate captain who operated in the Bahamas and in Cuba during the early 18th century, Calico Jack was founded in 2011 by the brothers Toto(rhythm guitar) and Caps (drums) with the aim of merging legendary 80s heavy metal with modern Scandinavian folk metal, wrapping everything in a maritime atmosphere, inspired by folk songs and sea shanties of the Anglo-Saxon tradition. They make sure they present a flashback to those times with stage scenery and costumes.

“If you play pirate metal, you can’t help but fill the stage with bandanas, chests, skulls, cutlasses, and pistols. We are arranging to bring real parrots and cannonballs on stage, but we are meeting some resistance from animal welfare and pacifist associations… Aesthetics aside, our live shows are notorious for creating absolute chaos above and below the stage, so it is not advisable to attend one of our concerts if you are looking for meditative and intellectual listening. We also hold the record of never having played sober since the beginning of our career, and we offer unlimited drinks to any fan who asks!” adds the band.

In 2013, they released the debut EP “Panic In The Harbour”, and first self-titled full-length in 2019. Now signing with Rockshots Records, the band will be rum-running their sophomore album “Isla de la Muerte” out on June 30th, 2023.

For this new record, the band kept the style of their debut album but improved every aspect of their music. “Isla de la Muerte” is much more aggressive, the songs are heavier, more dynamic, and more powerful than past ones. The fiddle tunes on the release are more epic and refined, and there’s no shortage of some of Calico Jack‘s trademarks such as the Caribbean sounds in ‘Antigua’. The band also added important elements such as a track of pure classic heavy metal Running Wild-style (‘Bad Fortune’) and a journey through the eastern sounds of the Indian Ocean in the final suite ‘Sandokan’.

Today, Calico Jack shares their second single from the treasure chest. Entitled “Queen Anne’s Revenge”, the song tells the story of the most feared vessel of all time, the infamous Queen Anne’s Revenge of Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. Through fast-paced, dark-toned folk metal, it tells how this legendary vessel is viewed with dread and is considered almost a supernatural menace, after all, its captain was considered by his opponents to be a real devil on earth.

The band adds:

“‘Queen Anne’s Revenge’ is one of the first songs we wrote for ‘Isla de la Muerte’, completed already a few years ago, and we played it live several times getting great feedback. It is perhaps the track most similar to the style of our first album, with a dark and evil atmosphere that pays homage to the style of Finntroll more than in the other tracks. On the cursed melody of the refrain, Giò, our captain, narrates the terror that Queen Anne’s Revenge, Blackbeard’s legendary ship, arouses in all those who only hear of her. In the lyric video accompanying the single, some of the most famous maritime artwork from the 1700s and 1800s is shown, with dark and belligerent scenes depicted.”

Israel’s Neolia‘s debut self-titled album is a masterpiece of experimental, progressive metal that will leave you speechless. From the haunting melodies to the complex rhythms, every aspect of this album has been crafted with care and precision. Get ready to be transported to another dimension with this Israeli band’s stunning debut and the recently released single “Rise and Fall” being presented now with a lyric video. The band shares the background of the track:

“It was the first one of the first songs we wrote for the album. Its first draft was recorded with just an electric guitar as a very basic demo, but it had most of the original riffs. The next demo version that was crafted at Tomer’s home studio was already in its final form, but it had had tweaks done to it and other parts and elements added as well. It is directly related to the concept of the album and the struggles of day-to-day life but not only the common ones, and is based on a fictional story Tomer had written. The main character, Alex, tries his best to recreate his past as a raging prophet that leads the weak, bruised, and innocent to follow his path but he doesn’t succeed this time so he crawls back to the demons that comfort him in his depression.”

The track starts off with a heavy groove intro, but it breaks once the verse enters with a drum and bass-like pattern demonstrating the duality of the song as the energy stretches back and forth. Containing some odd signature rhythms and polyrhythmic components it even leans into different genres becoming thought-provoking, alongside relatable, cathartic lyrics.

On a musical level, Neolia aspires to be a new horizon in the rock and metal scene, allowing a sense of freedom within the parameters of rock and metal, and leaving space for other musical inspirations such as African, Latin, and contemporary jazz music. They are recommended for fans of Protest The Hero, Coheed and Cambria, The Human Abstract, and Tool.

“This band is going to be huge. You know how Tool and the Mars Volta developed into their own sound and how they have a legion of devoted fans? That’s what Israel’s Neolia is about to do with this self titled debut album.” – Transcending the Mundane

“Karma”, (the video) accompanied by a beautiful shot somewhere in the deserts of Israel, has that fantastic balance of aggression and melody that I love about alternative metal. At its more frenetic moments, like the excellent transitions from the heavier moments near the end of the track and the more melodic chorus, it reminds me of The Mars Volta, and that is one big compliment. Elsewhere, Yerushalmi’s guest vocals are expertly utilized to balance the rawer, more harried vocals of the band’s own singer, Ben Reiss. Together, they present the major melodic force on the track, while the instruments deliver well written, complex, and undeniable groove. This mix is exactly what alternative metal is so good for, hitting on both the emotional and the visceral level of enjoyment. The track ends up being both interesting to dissect and take apart but also something you can move and sing to. If the band’s self-titled is as good as this, and the other tracks released so far seem to indicate that that is indeed the case, then we’re in for a treat. Make sure you head on over to the band’s Bandcamp to pre-order it; I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!” – Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“Neolia’s Self-titled debut album is a reflection of years of soaking up music of different genres from rock to pop to world music and whatnot. It’s a fusion of bits upon bits of pieces absorbed and processed and then spat out from a personal perspective. In its musical aspect, its rock and metal based, but with a twist of African, Latin, Jazz, and ambient that reaches the spectrum of high and low, tender, extreme, and crazy.” – New Prog Releases

“It’s as if Ben’s screams had come straight out of hell tearing the skies in all directions” – Metalist Magazine

“Filled with different time signatures, that incorporate beautiful melodic parts and screams that hit you directly in the center of the stomach” – Radio Ze Rock Magazin

0 GAINER’s New Melodic Deathcore Single “Violent Cycles” Is A Beautiful Display Of Destruction

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 2, 2023

Gainer’s New Melodic Deathcore Single “Violent Cycles” Is A Beautiful Display Of Destruction

New York’s Gainer was formed in the depths of COVID-19 in January 2021 originally as just a few guys getting together to jam and enjoy playing music together. Since then, they have released two albums “Cold Case” and “A Blackened Embrace”. Their primary focus is on playing catchy melodies and riffs and complimenting them with smashing breakdowns and build-ups that get people pumped and want to dance. Their latest single is “Violent Cycles”, a structured melodic progression that takes you through moments of pure aggression and filthy breakdowns to a powerful clean chorus that really puts you in the moment and makes you really feel the pain. The band comments:

“We are stoked about this upcoming single. We feel as a whole that it’s the best work we have done to date and the best version of Gainer that we could possibly be. This is definitely the style we have been working towards and plan to perfect moving forward. We will always love and appreciate our past but moving forward we feel like we are finally doing what we set out to do and that is to write dynamic music that appeals to the listener. The overall chemistry of the current members is next level and the efforts of each of us is equal across the board. We think each of us brings something of value to the table and are all using those tools and skills to perfect our sound and presentation.”

Despite Gainer‘s heavy background, they expect this new direction to be received well by long-time and new fans. They are intent on pushing towards a broader fan base while keeping the familiar heavy elements. On top of refined riffs and angelic choruses, the lyrical content has been streamlined to what they feel hits closer to home, to both fans and themselves. They are confident that this album will take us to new levels.

A well-rounded package, Gainer has a wide array of influences and as many elements in their music resulting in angry breakdowns, low and slow blackened bits, and a touch of ambient. They are recommended for fans of Fit For A King, The Acacia Strain, and Bodysnatcher.

Canada’s MEDEVIL Shares New Guitar Playthrough For “Dead Before Birth”

New Album Out “Mirror in the Darkness” In Tribute To Drummer’s Passing

Photo Credit – IDFK Design & Photography

Vancouver, Canada’s Medevil unleashed their latest album “Mirror in the Darkness” this past April 7th. The record is a big step up from their debut full-length “Conductor of Storms”, with a more progressive and ambitious direction than before. The album is also a tribute to drummer Chris Malcolmson who passed away after its recording. The songs on this new album have much more variety, and a lot more to offer, which should accommodate a wider array of music tastes from metal fans or fans of music in general.

Today, the band’s guitarists Gary Cordsen and Brett Gibbs are unveiling their latest playthrough video for the track “Dead Before Birth” via its premiere on TechnicalMusicReview HERE.

The band adds about the album’s opening track:

“Kicking things off is Dead Before Birth, a hard-hitting opening track that begins with a drum-only intro. Featuring complex arrangements, precise timings, and vicious guitar riffs. Between the many different time signatures, dense guitar layers, and menacing chorus, Dead Before Birth’s goal is to be catchy while also challenging the listener. The lyrics are kept abstract, dealing in a metaphorical sense with the feelings of depression.”

Intended to be listened to in a single sitting from front to back, Medevil spent a lot of time considering the flow of the album for “Mirror in the Darkness”, from fast and energetic to dark and brooding, there is a lot of variety that will come from a fully engaged listen. Recommended for fans of Metal Church, Accept, and Baroness, listen to “Mirror in the Darkness” at Medevil.bandcamp.com, and Spotify.

Lyric Video – Among Thieves – https://youtu.be/sC55M5Cy-3M

In additional news, Medevil has announced vocalist Eric Willmott (Apprentice, ex- Meridius) will fill in for the band’s main singer Liam Collingwood.

“Liam Collingwood is still a part of Medevil and will be continuing to work with us both creatively and in various singing roles on the upcoming album(s). Eric Willmott will be singing for us at all live performances, and is expected to sing as the lead vocalist on the upcoming studio albums as well.” adds the band.

About: Medevil is a highly energetic, fast-paced metal band known for its tight songwriting, intense stage presence, and roaring vocals. They are one of the few metal bands coming out of Chilliwack BC and hold that title proud as they have earned much praise and respect since their inception in 2014. As one of the 6 national finalists of the 2015 Wacken Metal Battle Canada, they are becoming more and more renowned throughout the country; their fame attaining them a following in their local town and across through to Vancouver.

Their music could be described as “power thrash” with half of their set being chorus-driven, and the other half focusing on blistering fast riffs. Influences for the band include Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metal Church. Their fast but catchy songs keep the crowd chanting throughout the set, and leave them wanting more. Liam Collingwood, the band’s singer, keeps the band image in theme with the songs while on stage and will wear thematic outfits when the mood demands it.

The band was founded on January 13, 2014, by Eric Wesa (bass), as well as brothers Liam (vocals) and Ross Collingwood (drums). It only took two months after the band’s inception before the boys found the ultimate guitar duo they were looking for, Gary Cordsen and Brett Gibbs. Once the lineup was solidified, they wasted no time performing shows and begin their musical journey. As a band, Medevil has two common goals; to explore their musical talents, and continue performing live for their fast-growing fanbase.

“At fifty six minutes in length, some listeners may be daunted by the sheer amount of Medevil they are being asked to absorb, but I can quite honestly say that there is not one second wasted here as the band deliver one of the most compelling, absorbing albums I’ve heard in quite some while. Congratulations to all involved.” – Sentinel Daily

“Medevil – Pray For Me – Six great new prog tracks you really must listen to!” – Prog Mag (March 6, 2023)

“a heavy onslaught of aggressive and menacing metal with moments of progressive diversion and musical exploration.” – Metal Roos

“The band has expanded their approach from their debut, writing songs that are more complex and progressive. Tracks like “Dead Before Birth” are intense and bombastic, while songs such as “Pray For Me” are mellower and more expansive. There are a few shorter numbers, but Medevil prefer extended compositions, with several tracks in the 6 to 9 minute range. The Udo Dirkschneider-esque vocals may be polarizing, but the songs are engaging and the musicianship impressive.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“There are more twists that catch you off guard here (Dead Before Birth), and is the perfect way to kick off “Mirror in the Darkness”. It’s probably their most complicated song rhythmically, and while they didn’t originally write this thinking it should be complex, it seemed to happen naturally with the riffs they were coming up with at the time. Somehow despite that complexity, it’s also extremely catchy.” – First Angel Media

“The sequel doesn’t disappoint in any way. The listening pleasure increases with every single track. Nothing is veiled (“Veiled”) here, the bandwidth of musical ability is lived out openly. Who or what to emphasize here is up to you. I recommend “Pray for Me”, “Weight of the Crown” and “Veiled” as check out tips. With the mirror of darkness you can see the direction: it’s going forward!! My rating is a full 10 Hellfire points.” – Hellfire Magazin

“Medevil has put their thinking caps on for this because there are some really interesting songs on this. There’s something for everyone on this so it will appeal universally to metalheads everywhere. Something is happening in Canada because this is about the tenth release I’ve reviewed, and they are all of high quality and pretty diverse. The question is – what will Medevil do next? They’re going to have to go some to top this. Score: 9/10” – My Global Mind

“Medevil’s overall sound is often interesting, like a weird mash-up of Metal Church and 90s prog-metal acts like Wicked Maraya. Cool ideas populate nearly every song and there are a collection of killer moments that hook the ear ” – Angry Metal Guy

“Overall, a heavy onslaught of aggressive and menacing metal with moments of progressive diversion and musical exploration.” – Metal Gods Tv

Montreal, QC – June 1, 2023

Rockshots Records – LA Metallers ARCH BLADE First Single “Nightbreed” Off New Album “Kill The Witch” Out July 2023

Founded in 2019 by father-and-son guitar duo Rob V and Big Rob, with Nigel Caicedo on bass, Ukrainian transplant Denys Podmazko on vocals, and Al “Mayhem” Mendez (ex-Dark Angel, ex-Dreams Of Damnation) on drums, LA-based heavy metallers Arch Blade will unleashing unto the pit their debut album “Kill The Witch” via Rockshots Records this coming July 2023.

Presenting versatile heavy metal with high energy both on record and live, the band’s debut full-length is a full-speed-intense blend of various different styles of metal (NWOTHM, Thrash, Power) mixed into one known as Arch Blade. Lyrically, the album is mostly based on vocalist Denys Podmazko’s dreams and nightmares along with his interests in comic books, sci-fi, horror movies, and sometimes documentaries.

“We picked the best songs that we had and focused on them. We did pass on a couple that was not right for the narrative of this album. We are already working on the second album. We feel like it will be even more composed and catchy, so to speak. We want to get back in the studio ASAP.” adds the band.

To give fans a taste of what’s to come, Arch Blade are sharing their music video for their first single “Nightbreed”, a super fun and catchy track to get your hails thrown high into the sky!

“Biker demons, speed, and metal are all you need. If you like classic heavy metal, you probably will like this one. It was inspired by the early 80s Iron Maiden and Judas Priest tunes, and it sounds like something from that time. It’s also our first official video, and that was a lot of fun shooting it in the desert outside of LA with a bunch of our friends.” says the band.

“We’ll make you a solemn promise: Whatever condition you happen to be in now (unless you’re in a coma), the song and video we’re about to present will make you feel orders of magnitude more alive, accelerating your heart-rate, igniting your fast-twitch muscles, and spinning your head like a glorious top. And for those of you who want your music to attack like a pack of rabid dogs, it fills that need, too. The song is “Veil of the Reaper“, and it comes from Hymns Of Blinding Darkness, the forthcoming album by the Los Angeles band Our Dying World. The new album marks a significant departure from the music on their debut, Expedition, moving in directions that may spawn memories of such bands as Children Of Bodom, Nightwish, and Dimmu Borgir, and you’ll get a vivid understanding of that when you hear “Veil of the Reaper“.” – No Clean Singing – Hymns Of Blinding Darkness (2022)

“Hymns of Blinding Darkness is an intricate album with lofty pursuits featuring a stunning band makeover.” – Decibel Mag – Hymns Of Blinding Darkness (2022)

“As with many great evolutions, Our Dying World took all their best parts and made it huge. This album paces brilliantly and delivers in spades. An overall epic release of their own brand of hard rocking hymns.”  – Heavy Mag – Hymns Of Blinding Darkness (2022)

“Closing with the excellent Melodic Death Metal-esque piece “Veil of the Reaper”, Our Dying World manages to keep the listener’s attention with soaring guitar melodies, engaging keyboards, and overall solid songs that are well crafted but need more of a personal identity. There are definitely plenty of excellent things about this release that fans of the genre will greatly appreciate, so don’t be afraid and check out this band.” – Infernal Masquerade – Hymns Of Blinding Darkness (2022)

“Fans who appreciate equal doses of orchestra and mosh pit will likely dig this passionate full-length debut.” – Angry Metal Guy – Hymns Of Blinding Darkness (2022)

“One thing is clear from the young band as they prepare for the release of their second release; they’ve come to stir the standards that hold the metal scene and redefine them.” – Metal Temple – Hymns Of Blinding Darkness (2022)

“this first effort is every heavy metal enthusiast’s lottery win and is assured to gain a growing fanbase for the band” – Powerplay Magazine – 2019 – Expedition

“The band does a great job with mixing several different metal styles. Primarily, they channel Groove Metal, Thrash Metal, and Melodic Death Metal. They take all these approaches and blend them damn near seamlessly with enough intensity to level your ears.” – The Circle Pit – 2019 – Expedition

“The last 9 months working with Our Dying World on their release EP has been a wonderful journey that has had about every twist and turn you could imagine while making a record. Some were typical to the actual recording process, and some were a part of the personal journey that one finds themself in when baring their soul to the world.” – Ultimate Studios Inc. – 2019 – Expedition

“Some metal bands in this era just tackle the genre just for the sake of it. Because the “scene kids” are into it and screaming is all the hype. But then, you run into a band like Our Dying World, proving one record at a time that true metal is a genre that isn’t going to die anytime soon, thanks to bands like them and others of their caliber.” – Artist Reach Official

“this first effort is every heavy metal enthusiast’s lottery win and is assured to gain a growing fanbase for the band” – Powerplay Magazine

================================================================

About The Track: The song opens up on a flurry of strings and a descending scale from an orchestra that makes a brief appearance before blast beats and double bass erupt across the listener’s ears. Choirs sing in a chant across the chaos before it all dies down as quickly as it came. Austin’s guitars pave the way for the verse to come in. David starts in with the lyrics, “I hear a voice; a whisper from the pits of darkness”, almost relaying a message sent from beyond.  The drums slam the listener through the song as the orchestration becomes more and more apparent.

A deeper voice, almost as if it’s the whisper mention before suddenly comes out “I am nothing, I am all” called back by “I am shadows on your wall” almost telling the listener I am everything and I am nothing. The song dives back into the verse and we hear the full impact of the strings lifting the brutal guitars and drums into a new place.

The song takes a twist as something out of a Danny Elfman or Tim Burton film swings around. Sounding almost like a creepy xylophone and chimes, it’s almost as if you’re walking around blindly waiting for a big reveal in the song, and reveal it does.

The chorus comes swinging in with double bass, heavy chords, and low strings that match the lyrics, “Lost to the blackness I find myself in great demise; all hope is lost, no chance to be at one with life”. The subject of the lyrics has given up and we hear his solemn vow, “This endless void will soon find me, a lifeless corpse, who found salvation on a rope”.

Everything cuts out except a guitar, and it builds. We hear the subject utter his last words: “ And so it ends; this artificial claim of a blessed life. Sewn with seeds of failure and desperation, I take my leave with this note of abandonment”. And we hear a huge 808 drop.

Austin and Graham come in with a harmonized lead on keyboards and guitar, sweeping arpeggios across their instruments. Ray takes his solo next, a slightly different vibe to the song, but echoing eerily through his part with squeals and taps across the fretboard.

The band dives into the massive chorus a final time before the clean and calm guitars float out of the song with the sound of the wind at the bands back…

Fun Facts – Story Angles:

The drums on this song are Tom’s fastest drums to date – previously he had topped out at 215 BPM and this song would end up coming in at 225. Tom had to completely change his style of playing and relearn his double bass technique to make the speeds in this song happen consistently. Needless to say, it ended up being a permanent way of playing after he figured it out.

Everything was recorded by Alex Nasla in his house or with Dave Valez for drums. We were able to do everything in extremely controlled environments that eliminated the need for a full production studio. It was a fun experience and definitely got experimental at some points.

Austin’s first writing with Our Dying World turned out to be his guitars for Egregious Sins. Needless to say, the guitars have gotten much faster and darker since Hymns Of Blinding Darkness; a change that everyone was incredibly enthusiastic about. He’s already written another single that’s coming soon…

The high-pitched bell noise in the creepy section of Sins is actually a typewriter sample. Graham has been known to sneak cool effects into sections to make them a bit more subtly dramatic.

Over the last few years, Los Angeles’s Our Dying World has gone through a tremendous evolution of sound from the thrashy death metal of their debut EP Expedition to the symphonic and melodic keyboard-oriented stylings of bands like Children Of Bodom, Nightwish, and Dimmu Borgir.

Formed in 2018 by drummer/guitarist Tom Tierney (ex-Whiplash), the group has played shows all over the USA in their short time together, bringing their sound from the fabled Sunset Strip in Hollywood to the New Jersey Metalfest where they opened for Metal Mike of Halford.

One thing is clear from the young band as they prepare for the release of their new 2023 single “The Egregious Sins Of Humanity” to follow their highly praised sophomore album “Hymns Of Blinding Darkness ” they’ve come to stir the standards that hold the metal scene and redefine them.

Shared Stage with: Abysmal Dawn, Abigail Williams, Swallow The Sun, Thrown Into Exile, Metal Mike of Halford
