Fun Facts – Story Angles

1. All of the band’s material being about horror movies provides us with an instant connection to our audience. Some people might not like the aggressive style of music, but it’s much easier to get into it when the lyrics are based on a movie you love.

2. Guitars were recorded 3 different times for this album. We had a personnel change after the first one, a technical issue after the second and the third is finally solid.

3. MRSA got its name from the infection. The original bass player had it and that’s why we chose the name. Nobody in the current lineup has had MRSA.

4. We showed up to play a show on Halloween at a Halloween party at a bar. We were excited because it was our first opportunity to play on Halloween. We were told they had a full PA to use and didn’t need to bring anything. We showed up, they did have a huge PA. But the bar owner locked up everything, and I mean everything down to the last cable in the place before he left town on vacation and wouldn’t answer his phone. The promoter, who didn’t confirm with the owner that we needed the sound system, couldn’t get into the room with everything so we couldn’t play. Just watched other people do Karaoke.

Ripped from the bowels of Hell!!! MRSA takes you into the sickening dark world of horror films. Exposing you to the terrors that lie within the human condition. They know what scares you. Curated by your host (singer) Dean Corpse. The wretched undead serial killer vomiting his obsession with fright flicks. MRSA brings the horror experience to life. Death Metal has never had a full horror theatrical experience like this! Each song is performed to the particular theme of a selection of films. The performances sometimes include scare actors, full effects, and props.

The band began in its early stages in 2013. Though certain incarnations existed beforehand the band released their first real EP in 2019 known as “The Biography of Madness”! The mini album consisted of 5 hook-filled death metal classics. The acclaimed EP gained the band a bit of a following and allowed them to open for such acts as MAC SABBATH and OKILLY DOKILLY!

The band was not satisfied with these successes. They wanted more! So, they decided to worship Satan. In doing so, they resurrected a new lead singer, (actually by screwing up the incantation), and they brought forth former serial killer, now undead DEAN CORPSE to front the band! With the new line-up complete, they released another EP known as “HEAVIER”!! The mini album was again produced by the band and mastered by Terrence Hobbs of SUFFOCATION. The 5 song EP was released at the first show in October 2021 to a sold-out crowd! This was also the first show with the full theatrical performance intact!!

Since the release of “HEAVIER” MRSA has been blazing a trail of the dead in their wake! With two more sold-out performances on their own, did a mini tour with NECRONEMESIS and CORRUPTED SAINT also opening for the likes of POWERGLOVE! The band makes an impression anywhere they play and the crowds can’t help but get infected. MRSA is currently going to record a new 10-song album to release in 2024.

Vancouver, Canada’s Thirteen Goats is releasing a brand new single and music video to immerse metalheads in their upcoming concept album, “Capricorn Rising”.

The song, called “Sign of the Goat”, serves as the overture for the rest of the record—an extreme metal rock opera about madness, death, and the destruction of all things. The band comments on the single below:

“‘Sign of the Goat’ is the album opener and the prologue of our story. It’s told from the perspective of the 12 demon goats who accompany our mascot, Shepherd, during his quest to raise an army of animals and take back the earth from humanity. Musically, this song shows off our more technical side—but it also shows that we aim to be technical in a way that’s still catchy and memorable.”

This is the same type of narrative device used in ancient Greek tragedy or Shakespeare’s history plays to set the scene for the audience. In this case, however, the 12 demon goats take on the role of a chorus that tells the listener what they’re in for on the rest of the album and invites them to join the mayhem—or be trampled and swept aside.

Fans can expect “Capricorn Rising” to be a tour de force of metal mayhem, offering both headbanging anthems and introspective moments. The album explores a wide variety of different metal subgenres, but this new single is recommended for fans of Bolt Thrower, Archspire, and Lamb of God.

Montreal, Canada’s Derelict, the brutal melodic technical death metal band known for their intense musicality and thought-provoking themes, is back with their next single “Spectrum” off their upcoming album “Versus Entropy”. This track marks a significant stylistic departure for the band, blending their signature death metal sound with southern metal and blues influences. The band shares their thoughts on the track:

“This is a call of allegiance to anyone who has been made to feel lesser than because of the expression of their identity, gender, sexuality, or personality in general. Nobody gets to tell you how to be, and we’ll stand for that. How you treat others is the determination of your worth.”

The band continues to explain that Southern metal often has this tough guy vibe about it, and although they enjoy a lot of that stuff, that’s not the kind of feeling or message they have ever wanted to convey themselves as artists. So they came up with the idea of writing a song about the acceptance of alternative masculinities, essentially a celebration of the different kinds of men that exist and how it’s OK to just be who you are.

The track showcases the collaborative songwriting approach of Eric Burnet and guitarist Max Lussier, who together created a song that merges southern swagger with Derelict‘s trademark brutality. It is recommended for fans of Allegeon, Decapitated, and Death.

It has continued as an annual festival featuring Local, Regional, and Underground Touring artists. In 2021 Festival Promoter Keith Wampler (The Legend Agency/The Convalescence) decided to expand the festival to multiple stages and to feature larger artists as well as a variety of underground acts with plans to grow the festival even more each year with Jungle Rot headlining 2021, Malevolent Creation headlining 2022, Signs of the Swarm headlining 2023 and now Oceano headlining 2024.

The 2023 edition of Armstrong MetalFest broke attendance records again with its eclectic earth-shaking lineup that featured 28 bands performing on the two-day festival that included headliners LA thrashers WARBRINGER, San Francisco tech-death giants FALLUJAH, festival alumni Spokane, WA’s ENTERPRISE EARTH, and Los Angeles’ THE ZENITH PASSAGE, along with Denver’s H.P. Lovecraft extreme metallers VALE OF PNATH, and Edmonton’s Juno award-winning heavy metal champions STRIKER.

Since 2009 (minus pause years 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic), West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong Metalfest have not only fostered the talent of hundreds of local bands, but have imported well-known, international acts to the quiet, little Canadian town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Each year hundreds of metalheads from Canada and the USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun, they spend three days camping, taking in as much metal over two days, participating in wrestling events, scavenger hunts, and catching up with their metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Nekrogoblikon, Origin, Rivers of Nihil, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on the Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C., it gives bands opportunities to play at different venues throughout the region including all-ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.

A few months ago, the Finnish rock band Darkness Is My Canvas was announced as a new addition to the Rockshots Records roster with the release of the first single from their upcoming album called “The End of Times”, which is scheduled to debut in October 2024. Today, they are excited to unveil their newest single “Bleed”.

Darkness Is My Canvas seamlessly blends elements of rock with modern prog sounds, offering at the same time a melodious, immersive, and lively musical experience. Drawing inspiration from the complexities of everyday life, Darkness Is My Canvas infuses its music with themes of resilience, introspection, and hope.

Musically, “Bleed” embodies the classic Darkness Is My Canvas sound, traversing from enchanting melodies to surprising rhythmic complexities. Melodic guitar passages by Panu lead the listener toward anthemic choruses, while robust drumming provides a sturdy foundation for the song’s narrative, brought to life by Pete’s impassioned vocals.

“Originally featured on Darkness Is My Canvas’ debut EP, “Monsters,” in 2022, “Bleed” quickly ascended to become a staple in our live performances. However, as we embarked on the recording journey for our upcoming album, “The End Of Times,” slated for release in October 2024, it became evident that “Bleed” justified a new perspective. With detail-oriented re-recording, the song gained new life during this process, and now it sounds like what we originally envisioned. We added more grit to almost every part of it, and re-vamped guitars, bass, and drums. We created the soundscape more on par with other songs to be released from the album.” adds the band.

“Bleed” is a song filled with beautiful guitar melodies and airy synthesizers. The chorus is epically melodic and easy to sing along to. Then, in the middle of the track, it ventures into some really bizarre musical territories – some might even find references to Radiohead’s Kid A album… Before it returns to a stadium-sized chorus as if nothing weird happened. The biggest differences in the remake are in the vocal harmonies towards the end of the song where there’s also a subtle nod towards Def Leppard. The theme of the song is self-harm, based on experiences within the band’s close circle.

The video for the song was created with super-talented and mastermind Anita Emphis.

Auro Control is a new Brazilian band dedicated to excellent Prog/Power Metal, today they released their debut album titled “The Harp”. Led by vocalist Lucas de Ouro, the band comprises a talented lineup including bassist Thiago “Bonga” Baumgarten, guitarist Lucas Barnery, drummer Davi Britto, and guitarist Diego Pires. With their fast, precise, melodic, virtuous, and energetic sound, Auro Control delivers an amazing auditory experience that leaves a lasting impression.

“The Harp” is an ambitious album, uniting the greatness of Power Metal with the depth of Prog Metal and the richness of percussion from Bahia-Brazil, resulting in a unique and surprising sound. So Much Hate – people are quick to dislike or hate someone who might have been close to them. It might be a political difference, religion, but rather than talking through it and trying to understand different points of views they jump to hate.

Gaslit – Nothing is more frustrating than watching someone you love struggle and when you try to help, it blows up in your face every time. They will constantly blame things wrong with them on everyone else and eventually you just reach this point where you really start to believe you might be the problem. Cycle repeats.

Know what’s bullshit? – Routines suck, and most of the population gets locked in one and just repeats every day.

Unjustified – Life is short, we don’t need to make it worse for ourselves and everyone else. Don’t be a bitch.

Friendly Deception – When you’ve had someone close to you, who you trusted completely, ever fuck you over. This one’s for you.

Nailed – This one was written after the overturn of Roe V. Wade. I’ve been pretty dormant on the way I feel about religion for some time now. That however, set me off. This song is mostly about Christianity, but definitely is centered around all religion. How religion is the cause behind most upset in the world, not politics.

Moodswings – Whether you are anxious, depressed, stressed out, and you can no longer even find the strength to engage in conversation. Lashing out in anger at those who don’t deserve it, feeling like nothing is getting better. It’s hard for me to convey in words how I feel most of the time, so I tried to sum it up with Mood Swings.

Listen up! – Our elders blaming us and younger generations for things they have caused is insane. Unfortunately, it’s up to us to turn things around and try to truly make things better for us and future generations.

With breakneck thrash fury comes Canada’s Supermodel Taxidermy and their second EP “At What Cost”, releasing today (May 31st) on physical CD to follow its digital release on April 26th via Punishment 18 Records. With a track record of turning heads and pushing boundaries, they promise to deliver an electrifying blend of intense riffs, powerful vocals, and unbridled energy that will leave listeners craving for more. The band comments on what to expect:

“This album is going to exceed the expectations of our early listeners while also adding dynamics with new elements that we decided to enforce all over the record. Things such as Cheney’s crushing vocals. We do a lot of back-and-forth vocals on this record. This record was made to catch your ears with its intense guitar hooks, heavy drums, and catchy bass lines all while keeping your attention to the lyrical topics at hand.”

Lyrically, the majority of this album looks at death; a lot of the writings question the cause and effect of vices and the wrong choices that can be made throughout our lives. Musically this album is fast and heavy as hell. Supermodel Taxidermy wanted to have it throwing left hooks repeatedly, there are not many moments on this record when it gives you a break.

The band was formed after an overwhelming response to the EP “A Whorer Story”, which was intended to be a one-off solo record, and since then they have been staking a claim for themselves in the local scene. The album, ten tracks coming in at just under half an hour, was produced by Rob Lawless and mixed/mastered by Terry Paholek, showcasing the band’s commitment to delivering an exciting listening experience. This thrash metal and hardcore punk collision is recommended for fans of Iron Reagan, Dayglo Abortions, and Slayer.
